The Trailer For Nimrod Antal's Action-Thriller ARMORED Needs More Fred Ward!

Published at:  Apr 16, 2009 3:45:51 PM CDT

Beaks here...

The way I see it, there are two kinds of movies: those with Fred Ward, and garbage. Nimrod Antal's ARMORED is not garbage.

Judging from the just-released trailer, it actually looks like a pretty enjoyable heist flick populated with a bunch of tough-guy character actors - which is what I figured it'd be when I visited the set back in February of '08. The plot is nothing new: Columbus Short stars as a wet-behind-the-ears armored car guard who gets talked into pulling off an inside job by his colleagues (Matt Dillon, Laurence Fishburne, Jean Reno and Amaury Nolasco); when the job goes bad and people get hurt, Short starts working against his co-conspirators. If it works, it'll be due to the cast and the action-staging expertise of Antal, who proved he's got the chops for this kind of thing with 2003's KONTROLL.

This is a mid-September release from Screen Gems, so don't expect much more than a solid genre picture. Then again, I'll be thrilled if half of this summer's $100 million event films turn out to be solid genre pictures, so maybe ARMORED will be something special after all. It's already got the Ward...

And here's one more Ward classic.

I have to say the film looks pretty damn cool, and forget Fred Ward, it's Jean Reno that is "coolness" seal of approval.

The theater I saw it at had the fire alarm go off in the middle of the film. We had to evacuate for 20 minutes. They let us back in but the projectionist never stopped the film so we missed about 20 minutes in the middle of the film.

it would make this world a better place. Miami Blues is so great, young skinny Alec Baldwin on fire (not that there's anything wrong with old fat Alec Baldwin), and, of course, Fred Ward. Seriously, though, he needs a rediscovery part a la Travolta in Pulp Fiction, or Rourke in The Wrestler...boo-ya! "Now I'll tell you what. I want you to sew my eyebrow back on."

Heartening to see the Ward love here – we always use to have him as the Comedian in our nerd “cast the Watchmen” conversations back in the 90’s.

Anyone got any idea why they stupidly recast his role to Dennis Hopper in the sequel to Cast a Deadly (where the fucking DVD release?) Spell?

    by roguewarrior65

Not terribly enthused. The main character's motivation is a cliché. Pick a populist evil enemy (George Bush, Dick Cheney, Wall Street, and in this case evil bank that wants to foreclose on his home that he probably couldn't afford in the first place) and steal from them. BOOOOORRRINNNGGGG!!! You want to impress me? They should be doing a vintage-version Mission Impossible on ACORN to dig up all manner of incriminating evidence and extort millions from them. Unfortunately, Hollywood would make ACORN the hero so I guess that's not going to work. Hmm... how about "Fox News Films"? That could work.
