Heavy Competition!! THE OFFICE 5.22!!

Published at:  Apr 16, 2009 1:38:05 AM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

I was saddened to see Vikram bolt The Michael Scott Paper Company, though his exit was beyond hilariousness.

One wonders how The Michael Scott Paper Company can survive without him. Does it drain away just enough business to force Dunder Mifflin to acquire it very cheaply?

Tonight:
HEAVY COMPETITION
Dwight’s loyalty to Michael is tested when he finds a new hero in Charles (guest star Idris Elba). Meanwhile, Andy (Ed Helms) tries to provide for all of Jim’s (John Krasinski) emotional needs.

Next week:
BROKE
Michael’s new company struggles to make early morning deliveries while the office tries to get their expense reports in on time after Angela enforces Dunder Mifflin’s policy.

April 30:
CASUAL FRIDAY
Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) has to mediate a dispute within his new sales team. Meanwhile, trouble brews in the office when several employees take the term “casual” Fridays too loosely.

Pam may soon be joining the Dunder Mifflin sales team.

“The Wire” vets Idris Elba and Amy Ryan will both appear in the fifth season finale.

Extra Gum: Know anything about it?

    by guy gaduois

I wonder if there's any thought whether it helps curb appetite. Also, though - I'm glad we have a double standard (by 'we' I mean my multiple personalities) because there's no way I'm choosing gum over a warm, delicious chocolate chip cookie. I don't want that appetite curbed, because a little piece of your soul dies when you choose Extra gum over a cookie.
The kharmic backfire that is Charles always "catching" Jim at the worst moment is funny. I could tell you some really boring stories about when a major computer manufacturer that I worked for in the mid '90s migrated over to NT. I'll bet your sides hurt already.

    by v'shael

But Herc loves them. He shills for the show all the time, valiantly posting deleted scenes every single time. So it gets a talkback.

But as CHRISTIAN_BALE_TRASHED_MY_LIGHTS says, there's no debate over ideas. No back and forth. No give and take. No name calling. No inventive slurs. No insane personalities.

    The World has Turned Upside-Down!

    by fain88

One of my least favorite parts of The Office are the awkward, cringe-worthy moments that find me yelling at my TV screen, "Michael, NOOO, what the hell are you thinking?!?" I could barely look at the screen for these two episodes because they felt like that the WHOLE time.

They were funny, and funnier than the last few, don't get me wrong. And I'm happy they're developing another on-going storyline; when they dropped that before and started doing one-offs was where they went south. But I dunno if I can live with the crazy bizarro world they're in now.

I was actually excited when Vikram showed up (and shit yes, EriamJH, where is Todd Packer?!), but it was the ultimate cocktease. Nope, just the same old characters but in horribly dire straits and nipping at each other's heels. Jim and Pam are apart again, and neither one can catch a break. Michael's become his own boss, so I can only imagine where that could lead. I wanna kick Charles Miner in the NUTS (whatadick). And Andy and Dwight are friends?!

...actually, I'm kind of liking that last one. They should take their act on the road: "Big D and Nard-dog: A folk experience"

Jenna's comment about having a "weird sex tape" that was "night vision, and you can see that his buddy is robbing me in the background", that cracked me up...the fight club shit was hilarious, too...The Office was funny, and Michael's complete lack of understanding on the phone, along with Pam's written instructions were hilarious, but on the whole, I'm just not buying that Michael could actually be succeeding. I mean, where is he getting the paper from? without a warehouse full of paper, doesn't he have to order it one order at a time from the manufacturer? if so, how can he turn a profit? I'm just not buying it. it's funny, but they're gonna have to really pull something interesting out of their hats to get me to buy it in the long run. if they're gonna hire michael scott back, just do it already!

the thing is, I liked that episode with Tim Meadows where we finally saw why Michael was actually ever valued at the company. but that was selling...this is starting a company form the ground up, that requires EXACTLY all the talents that Michael lacks: organization, savvy, foresight, etc.I didn't mind the scene with Dwight, where Michael essentially outsells him...I bought that...it's just the whole idea of the company and the behind the scenes stuff, I'm waiting for it to crash and burn. and if they do it right (they decide to hire Michael back in order to stop losing clients) that's fine, but do it soon. the bending over backwards to have this make sense, it's wearing thin. but as I said, hilarious episode...

Maybe Michael still has contacts at a local paper supplier. They might be giving him good wholesale prices because they think he still works at Dunder. Maybe they are charging the corporate account. Or he could be wandering into the wharehouse and taking what he needs.

they did a great job of balancing 3 different and hilarious storylines last night. Liz as a sexual predator, Tracy and the dancers, Jenna being dead was especially hilarious (Helen Mirren getting slimed and the Kids Choice Awards memorium).

BadMrWonka -> Have you forgotten Pam?

    by branniganslaw

You're right about Michael, but you're also forgetting that Pam and Ryan (who used to be upper-management) are much more knowledgeable about the areas where he's lacking. With the team that they have assembled they really do have all of the bases covered. It's actually quite odd... but they are a perfect fit. I suspect that Dunder-Mifflin will be forced to buy them out (but Michael will screw up the cash)... and they'll all end up right back in "The Office". Epic fail, which is in keeping with the theme.

I was thinking about that last episode... just wondering if it was as funny as I thought it was. I checked it out again on the ABC site and, yeah, it's as funny as I thought. I sure do hope that they don't move it to The Office's time slot. I'd still watch The Office because, well... the characters are so familiar that they are like family; but I'd sure hate to miss Ted.

VM alums? Out the wazoo: Ken Marino (Vinnie Van Lowe) and Ryan Hansen are the VM regulars; Enrico Colantoni was in the premiere episode as a guest star. Rob Thomas is the creator/co-exec producer along with John Enbom (who also serves as showrunner), Paul Rudd and Dan Etheridge. Co-executive producers are VM behind-the-scenes vets Jennifer Gwartz and Danielle Stokdyk. The sleazy attorney was the guest star on last week's episode. Splendidly on every front.

Do your remember the hubub re: Veronica Mars movie? It was there for a bit - sounded really close actually - and now nothing. It's like Thomas was talking about it for a month or so - saying he was talking to execs and stuff - and now..nothing!

It's almost too late now. It would be like a Freaks & Geeks movie or a Life Goes On movie - there were and are some spectacular TV series that just has to catch the wave. Most of the stars have gone on to better things.

However, I will say that a new Buffyverse movie would still be viable. Shocker, I know! But hear me out. Not only have the comics done exceeding well (Buffy S8, Angel:AtF & Spike) and kept them in the peripheral edges of fandom,; none of the actors seem to be doing that well. Or should I say, as well that they could be doing.

Alyson Hannigan is doing spectacular on How I Met Your Mother. I was just pointing out that because of the comics, "it" hasn't faded. The mythology goes on. And to be honest, I watch Bones sometimes and I think, "Man. Angel has gotten kinda pussy." Yes, I have a problem.

    Joss's Strike Song

    by buffywrestling

    02. Strike!

Music and Lyrics by Joss Whedon

    Performed by the Writers

    WHEN YOU START NEGOTIATIONS
    WITH INTEGRITY AND PATIENCE
AND THEY JUST CRY “BATTLE STATIONS!”

    WHAT’S TO LIKE?

WHEN YOU ASK A SMALL AMOUNT AND
    THEN ENCOUNTER COUNTER’S COUNTER
AND THE DEAL IS TANTAMOUNT TO
    “TAKE A HIKE”

YOU CAN’T SIT AROUND WITH YOUR HEAD IN THE SAND
YOU PULL IT OUT, YOU STAND UP AND
    YOU STRIKE

WHEN YOU HEAR THEIR LAWYERS TALKING
    SAYING OUR BEHAVIOR’S SHOCKING
    IT’S CONVINCING AS A COCKNEY
    DICK VAN DYKE

WHEN THEY LEAVE THE TOWN UNSTABLE
THEN THEY COME BACK TO THE TABLE
AND SAY “NOW WE SHOULD ABLE –
    KIDDING! PSYCH!”

WE ASK THEM FOR BREAD AND GET “LET THEM EAT CAKE”
THEY FIGURE A STOMACH ACHE WILL BREAK
    THE STRIKE

    SO STRIKE

    FOR ALL THE WRITERS

    STRIKE

    FOR A LIVING WAGE

    UNTIL THESE WRONGS ARE RIGHTED
    WE WON’T WRITE ANOTHER PAGE

    Jed:
WIPE OFF THAT SMILE – THE STYLE IS BILE
AND RAGE IS ALL THE RAGE

AS THE FALL TURNS INTO WINTER
THERE APPEARS A BUNCH OF SPLINTER
GROUPS WHO WONDER WHAT THIS INTER-
    NET IS LIKE

WHILE THE TIDE IS TURNING TEPID
AND THE TOWN IS FEELING TREPID-
ATIOUS TIME FOR US TO STEP UP
    TO THE MIC

WE’VE GOT ALL THESE DYNAMITE PLOTS TO USE

IT’S TIME TO LIGHT THE FUSE OR LOSE
    THE STRIKE

    Joss:
    AND LOSE WE DID
    IMPRESSIVELY

    All:
    SLUNK BACK TO OUR OFFICES
    DECLARING VICTORY
    IF YOU NEED YOUR RESIDUAL
    WHY DID YOU ALL AGREE

I’M PROUD I WALKED THE LINE
WITH WRITERS, FANS AND FRIENDS OF MINE

BUT NOW I ASK WHAT WAS IT FINALLY ABOUT
AND YEARS FROM NOW I’LL TELL MY TYKE

JUST WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO STRIKE

    OUT.

(This song was on the Dr. Horrible DVD where they *sang* the commentary instead of talking. It's was and is, fucking amazing.)

    11. HEART, BROKEN

Music and Lyrics by Joss Whedon
    Performed by Joss Whedon

A CAVEMAN PAINTED ON A CAVE

IT WAS A BISON, WAS A FAVE

THE OTHER CAVE-PEOPLE WOULD RAVE –
    THEY DIDN’T ASK “WHY?”

WHY PAINT A BISON IF IT’S DEAD
WHEN DID YOU CHOOSE THE COLOR RED
WHAT WAS THE PROCESS IN YOUR HEAD
    HE TOLD THEIR STORY

WHAT CAME BEFORE HE DIDN’T SHOW
    WE’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO

    HOMER’S ODYSSEY WAS SWELL

A BUNCH OF GUYS THAT WENT THROUGH HELL

HE TOLD THE TALE BUT DIDN’T TELL
    THE AUDIENCE WHY

HE DIDN’T SAY, HERE’S WHAT IT MEANS
AND HERE’S A FEW DELETED SCENES

    YOU’RE MAKING EVERYBODY MIZ

    Zack:
    THESE OUT-OF-DATE PHILOSOPHIES
ARE FOR THE DINNER TABLE, PLEASE
WE HAVE TO SELL SOME DVD’S

    Jed, Maurissa, Zack:
WITHOUT THESE THINGS YOU SPIT UPON
YOU’D FIND YOUR FAME AND FANBASE GONE

    Maurissa:
    YOU’D BE IGNORED AT COMIC-CON

    Joss:
    I SANG SOME THINGS I DIDN’T MEAN
OKAY, LET’S TALK ABOUT THIS SCENE

I THINK IT’S GREAT HOW RYAN GREEN -
    OH THIS IS NO GOOD

I THOUGHT J-MO WOULD BACK MY PLAY

I'm all for differing opinions...I just would hope for some citing of why you think it sucks, so we can open a dialogue about it; just spouting 'It sucks' doesn't really prove your point).

Mostly I was saying, sincerely, why the need to bash on Herc? If you have a better idea for a website, start it. For the status AICN has established for itself as a genre/cult website some things Herc reports on are a bit out of place (admittedly the 'Milf Island/Cougar' show on TV Land TB had me shaking my head a bit). What I was trying to say, is I don't know why anyone thinks Herc actually reads through most of these TBs, when nearly every comment towards him is clamoring for another TB or outright insulting him. Constructive criticism is one thing, random posts about 'how much something sucks' are just uncalled for.
