Cool News
Capone has the winners of the CAPRICA DVD contest!!!
Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here, with the list of the lucky contest winners who get a nice, shiny new copy of the new CAPRICA DVD, set for release April 21. We had more than 300 entries, and I went through them all and plucked out the best answers (about 100 total), and then randomly selected these five names.
It’s very clear to me after reading these that you guys have been thinking a hell of a lot about what the “Caprica” series is going to be addressing, and it seems quite obvious that the show will probably raise far more questions than it answers. Some of you are quivering in anticipation for the new series; more than a few seem angry that the new show even exits. I completely understand where both sides are coming from. There’s a lot riding on this DVD release for sure, and I’m sure Hercules will offer up his thoughts upon its release. Anyway…
The winners are:
Tom Baird
Wasilla, AK
Paul Szmall
Valparaiso, IN
Dan Davis
Morgantown, WV
Chris Tonick
Red Oak, TX
Matt Farley
State College, PA

Did'nt win. And I spent ages on my "why does their world hate corners so much?" email. I really wanted to see that answered...
-
No doubt about it.
-
Shit.
-
Thats a reasonable opinion based on nothing at all. Sillwy Wabbit.
-
that's a fair point... sort of.
The clips that have been posted here; and on other sites, do not look at all promising. -
Their world loves corners. So much so that they double the number of corners on everything.
Right angles on the other hand... -
I never though of that. In that case my whole argument is logically flawed and I quite rightly did not win.
As for Rabitt, yeah triangle tennis was naff but I'll still wait to see the whole thing in context. All pilots contain one or two slices of feet-finding shit. -
I'm intrigued! And it's set 58 years before "The Fall".
-
clips are one thing. seeing the whole thing is quite an another thing. and, so far... almost every person I talked to, that has seen the pilot, likes it.
as for me, I was pretty much ready to hate it. with passion.
and yet, it kinda won me over. also, I believe that I would've loved it even more if it DIDN'T had anything to do with the the established BSG universe: that way my expectations would be lowered (as in, not unrealistically high).
as for the show itself, if they go into directions that deleted scenes on dvd might suggest, I think caprica will be just fine. not as good as the series it spawned from, but just fine never the less. -
Dollhouse is trivial (and probably cancelled soon), TSCC has been cancelled (and i only saw the first few anyways so...) so what do we have left. Yet another Stargate wankfest. Ron Moore has proven himself time and time again so obviously i'm willing to bet Caprica will be cool as well. Stop drinking you hateraid, y'all!
-
oh, and "24" might as well be considered science fiction. just sayin.
-
I really liked the Caprica pilot, it's a whole different kettle of fish to BSG but it stills wants to throw modern/relevant issues at you and wants you question which side you're really on.
However, the pilot didn't seem as fresh as the BSG miniseries, purely because I recognised a lot of the story from the Ghost In The Shell TV series, which isn't a bad thing because GITS is one of the best Sci-Fi series ever.
Looking forward to seeing Caprica go to series though. -
Yeah I was really impressed by it.
Without discussing any details, I thought the way it dealt with the established BSG universe was pretty smart - it acknowledged it was there but was a whole different thing
Honestly, I don't think you would need to know anything about BSG to appreciate it.
I like how it delved into the whole thing about the relations between the colonies ( although the focus was mainly on a the strained relationship between two) and I thought it looked great - being able to use real world locations means the background dressing and whatnot was top notch.
If I had one reservation it would be that towards the end it slipped too much towards BSG backstory. It was cool that you saw the origin of something that was referenced towards the end of BSG but to be honest I'd have preferred it stayed entirely on it's own terms.
One thing though - surely they'll have to cut the two gratuitous titty scenes and one scene of violence when it's broadcast on TV? -
I haven't seen any of the current series. Anyone know if I should start with Caprica when that comes out, or if I should just head straight into the BSG Season 1 DVDs?
-
to represent the corners they had to cut to make budget on the miniseries
-
why did TSCC fail? as a fan of the terminator films, I was just against the idea of a show that had absolutely fuck all to do with the continuity. ( i watched a couple of episodes and though *meh*)even if it did adhere to continutiy you already knows what happens! Perhaps at the back of my mind the saem thing occured when watching enterprise ( although true be told nothing could save that show) so here we have caprica. you'll watch the show and you know what ultimately happens. in all honesty i think the caprica pilot is pretty good. but it actually wraps up the story perfectly. i really dont need to know any further. cause we all know what happens!
Id actually rather watch kings for my alternative future parallel universe whatever story. it's new universe.
and much as i liked bsg, man that story just fucking dragged on. I mean seriously people, hand on heart, tell me you didn't think that just dragged on. fucked if i can endure another 4/5 years of that shit. * spoiler* bill goes to school, joins the academy, meets his wife, the cylons work everywhere, and just like irobot they evolve and attack!. there saved you 5 years. you're welcome! -
It's spelled "haterade" and I haven't sipped a drop of it. BSG is just lame.
-
I watched the pilot last night.
It was OK. Didn't feel like I wasted my time, but didn't go fan-boi either.
Enjoyed the ex-Deadwood & ex-Rome actors. The "star worth watching" however is Joe Adama. I could care less about the other actors/characters, but Adama is worth watching. Hopefully he won't end the last season of Caprica throwing paint and crying.
Paula Malcomson is hot. I could take or leave her in Deadwood (well I loved Trixie as a character, but she wasn't "hot").
Could be interesting, but I give it 1 20 episode season, which is more than Fox gives Joss got.
BTW, why doesn't Joss do shows for Fox, but just assume they'll get canceled and wrap it up in 1 season? I mean we all knew going in Dollhouse was 1-and-out. The show would have been vastly improved by "going BBC" and wrapping it up in 13 episodes. -
Jesus.
-
Shameless plug I know, but AICN seems to be ignoring PaleyFest this year.
-
How about updating this page with the winners' questions. It should be simple enough, all you have to do is cut and paste.
I'd be interested in what the have to say and it would make for some interesting discussions on the talkback. -
Your "no corners" email sounds hilarious!
I think I read in a RDM blog that the reason there are no corners in BSG is because Universal cut the budget of the miniseries just before it went into production, so the Production Designer got a bunch of set PAs to start "cutting corners" off everything on set as sort of a visual "FU" to the studio.
Unfortunately, when BSG went to series, they had to keep it consistent which turned out to be a pain in the backside.
At least that is the story as best as I can remember.
-
Why not include the questions those winners had, the mysteries they want to see answer by the Caprica series? I'm curious to see some of the unanswered questions that are keeping other BSG fans up at night.
-
Isn't the family name "Adams" instead of Adama? What's that about?
-
Oh shit does that mean I will get banned now?
-
Or tell people where they can download it from.
-
Yeah I know the real reason for the BSG corner hatred. There's a line in No Exit (4x15) where the Cheif and Adama are talking about the ship not being built to spec and Adama says "Are you telling me they cut corners?" which I think is supposed to be some sort of on-the-nose in-joke about the same thing. Ah, comedy gold. Or not.
Anyway, yeah I would like to see the winning entries Capone, just so we can have a last stand style BSG talkback to piss off all the 24loving BSG haters. -
Exciting, thought provoking, drama with a subtle but lovable sci-fi twist, I don't often illegially download things but I am glad I did with Caprica, I will buy the pilot on dvd also so feel not too guilty. If BSG was like Oz meets The West Wing then Caprica is The Sopranos meets The X Files, I would be very interested to see the premise given a full series, I mean the creators of BSG pulled off the best sci-fi show ever, whose to say there next show won't be even better. Plus Caprica contains a lot of titties and my straight sci-fi friends are always bemoaning the lack of tits in space, now there are many, plus Cylons.
-
Spread the love, AICN.
-
What were the questions that the winners asked? Thanks.
-
It was good. Very good.
There is a bit too much time devoted to the kids seen in those promo clips, but overall I liked it even though it is quite different form BSG.
There are elements to it that I have questions about, but I guess they will have to wait until there is an official review on this site... I don't want to post spoilers here. -
My question was "I would like to know how the original cylons created the God notion into
the newer new cylons" -
Actually live in Big Lake, AK, wasilla is just my mailing address, never been called Jesus before though, interesting, but no, not him
-
I really loved the scene where this was explained. It's a great touching moment near the end of the pilot, between Joseph and the young William, we even get the Adama lighter-waving theme from Bear McCreary! I got chills when he said 'Adama'. I've seen the pilot twice now and it's fucking great. NOT BSG (the centurion and Adama stuff aside) but something fresh.
-
has become the Caprica talkback. Just for fun, let all comments be on there. :)
-
I know this isn't where the show is supposed to be going, but
I hope that the series actually has some major centurion battles in it. This series has such a perfect opportunity to showcase the first cylon war. -
Strange that William "Husker" Adama has blue eyes in BSG, but young "Willie" Adama has brown eyes in Caprica.
Do people from Tauron have hypercoloured eyes? You would think they would keep the continuity of that type of thing consistent.
-
well it was on NBC.
-
I knew Kings got moved to the death slot on Saturdays... but is it officially canceled? IMO NBC never gave it a chance.
-
I was so bored by the pilot, I nearly fell asleep. BSG was thought provoking with fascinating characters. Caprica was filled with boring characters that seemed to wax on about the same thing over and over. Plus side is that it had some nudity and the CGI for the planet was really well done. I just hope the series is better than the movie because I don't think I could sit through a season of it.
-
did anyone else notice that most of the music in this was the music for the Sarah Conner chronicles and not from BSG ..wtf was that about
-
He was a featured guest at the Chiller Theatre show in NJ. He was a really cool guy, in good spirits and wrote a lengthy message on the picture he signed. But DAMN that thing was expensive! Worth every penny to have a photo of me and Bill Adama.

Biggie, did you also meet Walter Koenig at the Chiller Theatre?
by leafar the lost
I just checked the web site, and Edward James Olmos is one of the guests there. However, there are at least 110 listed guests for this three day convention from April 17-19. How much did Olmos charge you for his autographed picture?
-
I believe Adama got fucked in the ass by none other than Chev Chelios. The experience was enough to make his eyes change colour (explains the brown). Maybe he was trying to harvest the amazing Chelios Cock as well.
