A Third Season For TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES?? Network Insider To EW’s Mike Ausiello: ‘Consider It Cancelled’!!
I am – Hercules!!
Fox officials are saying we should wait till the netlet’s 2009-2010 schedule is announced May 18, but everybody else is telling Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello that “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles has been scrapped:
"It's done," maintains a source close to the show. "Everyone has pretty much known for a couple of weeks." Adds a network insider: "Consider it canceled."
"Everyone" does not seem to include series writer-producer Ashley Edward Miller, who twitters, "Time for Ausiello's semi-annual SCC termination report. False again. (Remember 'sets were destroyed' report? Now you know context, people)."
Find all of Ausiello’s scoop on the matter here.

I actually thought this show was getting better and better

Why did we expect anything else.
-
it's Fox.
They shitcan every good show they ever run. Kinda like Sci-fi (sorry... Syfy *shudder*) -
I guess that means more reality tv bullshit. I dopn't get it...Fri. night is a dead zone for tv and so any rating are good ratings I say. I mean any other show Fox puts in the same slot will do no better. I mean they have Idol they ain't suffering so why not have some shows around out of loyalty to fans and maybe create some good will to fans. I mean yeah have Idol to whore yourself and get rich and have smaller shows for fans to dig on. I mean Serenity before it...now this...shit Fox could have kept them going and created a real niche for themselves as a sci-fi fans network...loyal to those people...willing to stick with low rated but good shows. Hell if F/X and AMC and HBO cancelled shit because of low ratings we never would have had 7 seasons of the Shield and shows like Damages would never last and Deadwood actually made it 3 years which was a miracle. Oh well...at least TSCC finale was awesome and went out in a good way. But screw Fox anyway.
-
...but is won me over. For a TV show.
-
it's not like the show made any money on its own, but it was a great ad for the movie (what other movie can show you a 40 minute commercial every week that you'll watch willingly?)
-
They shitcan all the good Sci-fi shows. Namely Space: Above and Beyond and Firefly.
I loved both of those and Fox set them up to fail
At least Fringe is doing well. -
Imagin if Smallville had been cancelled to make way for the latest Superman movie? That's what this is about. If it indeed does get the ax it's because some douche in a suit doesn't think that we have the intelligence to be able to follow 2 different Terminator continuities. I have a feeling the movie is going to blow and SCC will have been cancelled for nothing.
-
LOST TB now you bastards, I got no where else to goooooo (/cry)
-
I didn't find it to my taste but gotta feel for the fans right now.
-
Great. I'd buy that for a dollar.
-
can't say i enjoyed the show. but sorry for your loss, fellow geeks
-
. . the Octomom reality show getting tossed around right now.
-
Fox/WB/Whomever, please do not cancel this show! It was shown true staying power in creating its own mythology within the larger mythology of the Terminator franchise! The writing, acting, music, SFX, casting have all been top notch, and YES I get it, it is an expensive show to make..but it really needs another chance. Pull it out of the dead end of TV (Friday nights) and move it to a much better slot! Take Dollhouse too, that show has proven itself to be quite interesting. Why not move it to Thursday nights at least and call it 'Chicks Kick Butt Thursday', or something!! Please don't cancel...where will I get my Summer Glau now?
-
And how?
Someone fill me in on this happening. I thought Coming Attractions was absorbed into something else. -
I actually look foward to the next episode. If there is a next episode.
-
Mahaloth, it's back. As of late December 2008.
-
Doesn’t FOX have a $100 Million dollar advertisement coming out in the theaters this summer?
When there is a hit movie, is there not usually more interest in a subject?
I think when people watch Terminator Salvation all summer long, come the fall they will want to see any Terminator goodness they can get their eyes on. Also the T4 is set in the future, John is currently in the future.
Buying a few episodes in the fall is a no-brainer.
-
Fuckin' Fox, man. This show was just starting to ratchet up the tension. Now what're we gonna do fer ass-kickin'-cyborg action? Grrr.
-
T:TSCC was gud storytellin
-
I am here to infuse hope.
Nothing at FOX has been decided. The article on ew.com was written by an amateur "journalist" who cherry-picked his information from someone's blog that you can google for if you'd like.
What can you do?
1. Understand these guys only understand money
2. Go see Salvation when it comes out. If TSCC is cancelled...don't
3. Re-live some awesome episodes by buy them off Amazon unbox on TIVO or XBox LIVE
4. Go buy season 1 on dvd. Amazon.com has the blu-ray for less than $30, it is a must-have!
5. If you are a friend of Jim Cameron's, tell him to pick up the phone and demand the show not be cancelled, can you imagine his royalty check that he gets every week? He has more to lose than you or I
6. Send an email to askfox@fox.com asking them not to cancel. Be short, be polite
7. Go outside and play -
that there's still a chance. But Fox have fucked over SciFi shows for so long now...
-
I just wrote my email to askfox@fox.com
-
and it's fairly cheap now!
-
honestly, dont ya think the producer would b the first to know of an impending/possible cancellation ? i think ausiello just hates on the show...makes sense since he loves all the crap thats on tv...like the OC , etc
-
whatever the fuck they are calling themselves.
Perfect show for that network. -
It was a good show although I often found it too slow and meandering. It always seemed to be lacking that certain something that could have elevated it from a good show into a really great show. They could've basically covered the storyline so far in about 12 episodes rather than stretch it out over 2 seasons. Also, for a show with the name 'Sarah Connor' in the title, the character of 'Sarah Connor' was very underwritten. They should've given Lena Headey more to do. Also, considering Sarah and John are supposed to be wanted fugitives and are trying to stay off the grid so that the authorities and/or skynet won't find them, I never understood why they always stayed close to Los Angeles - one of the most populated and developed places in the world. Why not go live in the woods in outer Mongolia and stockpile weapons or some other place where skynet will never find them???
-
Oh EVERYONE knows it isn't coming back eh? Fuck you Ausiello. You rumour-peddling douche.
I hate this shit, every hack website around comes along during the off season saying this show is cancelled, well it hasn't been yet.
Those last episodes were stellar and with the movies launching again now's the time to keep the show around for at least one more year, it could finally grab a more widespread audience.
Although i'd air it on a night other than friday when 40% of the viewers have to DVR the damn thing because they're not at home. -
That site was my 2nd source after this one. Dark Horizons blows nowawdays and HitFix really does suck too. God I miss the early days.
-
Sure, there are a few lose ends (which is impossible to get to all of 'em, prepare for that with Lost too), but really, it ended with John in the future set to become the great "John Connor" from scratch (since he time-jumped he isn't the man of destiny, but he will become it), re-united with his friends and family (his not-dead Uncle and the father he never met) and an un-Terminator'ed Cameron (Allison, who was hugging the dog and it wasn't barking at her). We do know the grand scheme of the ending - they defeat Skynet and John sends everybody back in time, so it's not like as if Lost was canceled at the end of it's 3rd season. Two DVD sets to sit on the shelf by T2. Longest Terminator movie ever. That's cool.
-
Nnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-(
-
Someone suggested that and it probably would fit the show better. 13 episodes a season, plus they rerun them a couple of times a week. I think a sci-fi fanbase would fare appreciate that more.

It'll have to directly (or indrectly) compete with a gigantor-budget Future War movie in Terminator Salvation. The TV series managed to pull off a fairly big spectacle yet that recalled and was even somewhat comparable to the original two movies, so it fit with that continuity. I haven't seen Terminator: Salvation, but their Future War looks a hellova lot different from the Sarah Connor Chronicles Future War that we've seen many times on the show. So, yeah, viewing a potential S.3 back to back with Salvation's 200 billion dollar buget excess will be a bit wonky.
-
why cancel something that is making you money? same with batman, there's like 3 cartoons and a bunch DVD movies, they don't cancel all that shit when the movie comes out, because it makes them money. they don't care about "continuity". TSCC is not making money, so its only purpose was to promote the movie. Once the movie is out and everybody forgets about it a month later, what's the point of keeping the show around?
-
that's not all I've got to say, thinking about it... I don't get Fox's attitude (or that of most ofthe US netwoks for that matter). I'm in the UK, so I'm not Reading too many of the above TB's because I don't want to spoil the ending of S2, but I agree with the TBer that suggested moving these decent shows to better timeslots to getmore viewers. TTSCC is shown on a Thursday here in the UK, and it's one of Virgin TVs top rated shows. Fox also should account for the fact that viewing habbits have changed with the mass uptake of PVRs and Tivos-people series link and watch what they what, when they want it...a lower viewer figure on the day of transmittion does not a small adience make...
-
But it could still return on another network, and as I've stated before, it could be TNT that picks it up.The thing we have to remember: FOX's sister company, Fox Television, neither owns the series nor pays for its production. FOX (the network) only pays for first-air rights. The series is independently produced by Warner Bros. and the producers of the Terminator movies. Furthermore, the Fox movie/TV companies have no connection to Terminator Salvation (Warner Bros. and Sony are distributing this). So the Fox companies get nothing really for keeping Sarah Connor on FOX.So it is not to FOX's advantage to pay top dollar for the first-air rights to this show. (This could explain why the network moved it to Friday nights -- lower ratings = lower first-air licensing fees.) Right now, FOX and Warner Bros. Television are probably negotiating these fees for a third season on FOX.Thus, if you want this series to return, write to Warner Bros. Television, and encourage them to fund production for a third season (and suggest you'd be happy with 13 episodes and watching it on TNT). Writing to TNT wouldn't hurt either.
-
The negotiations that are going on now most likely boil down to this: FOX wants to keep the series on Friday nights and keep paying low first-air rights. Warner wants FOX to pay more, and to justify this by saying FOX needs to move it to another, more ratings-friendly night.Although FOX has done a lot of loathsome things with its own series (productions that belong to its own sister company, Fox Television), it's not necessarily the "bad guy" here in regards to Sarah Connor. In fact, FOX never even commissioned this series to begin with -- the pilot was produced with no specific network in mind, and shopped around before FOX agreed to air it. (Yes, "agreed", because Warner and the series/movies production companies wanted it to air on a major broadcast network for maximum exposure to the viewing public, and not on a cable network.)
-
A little geeky fun to look forward to every week. The characters kinda grew on me. At least the ending was appropriately "To be continued...?" I'd like to think some people are right, and this show could find life on another network.
-
worthy of the Terminator name. I hardly ever watch TV, but I make a point of seeing it on Hulu. Off to buy the DVD's to show support...
-
TSCC could be the jewel in another network's crown. Can you imagine if TNT, TBS or USA get a hold of it, not only would they promote the hell out of it, it would have a good time slot and get enough reruns that everyone (even non fans) would have a chance to see it. Burn Notice, Money, Psych are pushed pretty hard.
-
I had not watched a Fox show for years till TSCC. The show has been great but shame on me for getting involved in a Fox show. See you later Fox, I'll tune in for football and the World Series, other then that go fuck yourself.
-
Yeah, because that did Sliders a world of good, huh?
BONEHEAD! -
to pick this up: Cameron would have to become a Terminator Mosquito "Camsquito"John and Sarah would no longer be hunted by Metal from the future, but by Plumbers with Night Vision Video Cameras and "E-meters"The Human-Machine War would be replaced with a Human-Machine Single "Combat" Wrestling Match. Summer Glau and Lena Heady would walk the ring in bikinis caring the Round Number cards.Everyone would reach for Degree antiperspirant to Terminate Body Odor.Sarah would be called SySSy, and John Connor would be JayCeeother than those small changes to make Bonnie Hammer

Harry Please!

I wish they were, it's a great show, but it needs to be on cable not network.

At the end o' th' subject line there.

if you wanna keep it alive, try sending some nuts
or maybe try this:
shrunklink.com/ccmw
...but the plain and simple fact is the show didn't attract enough of your "traditional" US old-school television watching audience to be able to market their wares - so it got shitcanned - hey, at least it got to wrap up neatly...
of course, it was one of the most downloaded shows on the internets, but there's no "ratings" system on eztv and nobody has figured out how to "sell" TV product online - look at that shining beacon of success that was Sanctuary (and don't even bother mentioning Apple to me - their shit stinks far worse than anybody's these days)
so DEAD IS DEAD -
and make it R rated with nudity and graphic violence!
-
I'm glad it's back, but almost can't believe it.
-
Shiiiit, that would be awesome! The lack of R material made me wonder how they ever got this show as far along as they did.
-
Pity they base these sorts of things on ratings and not on whether the show is decent entertainment. I can think of a bunch of shows that should be gone before SCC. But I can't get a job in program planning. I have a degree.
-
check out fastcompany.com for a great story about McG.
-
I don't know why people keep saying that. It ended on a cliffhanger and nothing was resolved.
Weaver finally got exposed as a Terminator to the other characters, but the viewing audience already knew that. Her character's origins or motivations weren't explained at all. -

Whenever I read an "insider" or a "close source" said something.

I really enjoyed season 1. The subplot with the girlfriends this year let it down badly, as did a few nonsense episodes. The pregnant landlady and/or her unborn child was clearly leading somewhere before that idea was scrapped - so all that airtime given to her was pointless (although I could see Sarah protecting her in season 3 if her child proved to be a future freedom fighter, etc). And Weaver's motivations were proving interesting: a possible future civil war between cyborgs and liquids? She certainly didn't strike me as being re-programmed by Connor. The business with John Henry was proving interesting and the last few episodes really pulled it out the bag. I'd quite happily watch a season 3 set in the future and watch John Connor earn his reputation. I'm done watching "present day" Terminator. I also think there's enough space in the world for both the TV series and any future movies, even if they do head off in different directions.
-
I'm guessing she was the T-1001 that we saw in the flashback/flashforward on the USS Jimmy Carter. She went back to program a "Good" Skynet, John Henry, to help John fight the resistance in the future. Maybe that's where the Resistance got their own time machine from. Kind of moot now, but the simple explanation for Weaver was "She was a good guy, even though she killed quite alot of people who got in here way, she was trying to destroy skynet in the end."

I will so pissed off if this show is canceled. I was on my the edge of my seat watching this sometimes more than I am with LOST or Heroes. And that f'en season finale freaked me out! I WANT MORE!!!!
-
1) The family would decide to move to British Columbia. %80 of the episodes would take place in the woods 2) Michael Shanks would guest star as John Connor's 2nd cousin once removed...FROM THE FUTURE 3) All special FX would be handled by the FX house responsible for the Sci-Fi Saturday movies...ie, they're all made on some dude's eMachine he bought from Best Buy
-
Thanks for the link - what a fucking tool McG is. And then there's this comment from Amy Pascal who runs Sony Pictures: "He's like Spielberg." No wonder movies are so bad when studio heads talk out their ass.
-
I mean seriously, we get it.
-
One unnamed "insider" says it's canceled, some actual person working on the show says it's not. So it's a rather pointless news story.
-
TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES is a great series, one that's far more deserving of extended life than shit like DOLLHOUSE or FRINGE. Don't make me send you to Space Jail, FOX!
-
Pat has wanted to bring it back for some time, and it had been in the works for quite a while.
The short version is here: http://tinyurl.com/ctuy58
-
Didn't FOX learn anything from Firefly??
-
FUCK
-
but not expecting it to. I watched it again on DVR last night, awesome finale.
-
The third season could be so brilliant. Make it 13 episodes, keep the storytelling tighter than it was in season 2, definitely bring back Shirley Manson and of course the rest of the main cast. Keep the kid Savannah, Ellison has to look after her, but then she ends up going with Sarah. The future scenes could be a half-season arc where we see John's name immortalized by his actions. We see him have a relationship with Cameron (aka Allison), he sends Kyle Reese back in time to be his father, interesting scenes with Derek. Then John goes back in time himself, back to Sarah.

Christian Bale could save the TSCC with one phone call.
by leafar the lost
Of course, he is too much of an asshole to do it. Why should he give a fuck about the careers of other actors that he doesn't know? He is too much of a movie star to care. He is Batman, after all...
-
He's the fucking Batman.
-
Just talked to a frat brother who works as a gaffer on the show. There was some talk about having him and his crew move to a new series, but Halcyon blocked them for an unspecified amount of work starting in June to continue on TSCC. I'll keep you posted when I hear more.
-
for Fox to bring this back for the fall season with a 13 ep commitment, not only giving us fans a chance to man up and show our support but to also promote the inevitable Fall DVD/Blu-Ray release. Free advertising for the production company of Salvation
-
I really want this series to be amazing and sometimes an episode has been great but the second series took forever to find a purpose. The Riely arch actually pays off nicely but the mystery wall which has provided all the filler eps was just a terrible idea. The threads it gave birth to were really boring, apart from the episode at the army academy which was actually pretty cool. Please let this show run on for a while! If I have to put up with another fucking stargate franchise you could at least give me this!
-
where the actress is injecting collagen into her lips and always frown at her kid ? Sarah in TSCC is just unbearable to watch. Just cancel this crap show. Or let McG produce.
-
Josh Friedman tweets here:
http://twitter.com/Josh_Friedman/status/1521701135
Then there's an interview with Brian Austin Green on "Comic Book Resources". BAG doesn't know anything either. Neither does Summer (BAG mentions in that interview he talked to her).
So it seems "everyone has known for weeks" does not include a writer, the exec producer and the actors.
But I guess we'll see what happens on the 18th. -
I had no idea it was back either!
Corona was the first website I starting following movie news on back in 2000! -
You don't like this show, you never promoted it, why do it now.
FUCK YOU HERC. -
This season was terrible
-
the fact that FOX is saying wait till the announce the fall schedule tells me that the chances of renewal are very good...otherwise why would the FOX suits pass on a chance to tell us its cancelled just to rub it in our collective faces that they didnt like the show...with the terminator movie coming out, its a potential jackpot for fox..especially if non-terminator fans see the movie and realize theres a terminator show on the tube...may introduce the whole terminator franchise to a whole different segment of the population... one can ony hope
-
If the movie is a mega-hit, they're brain dead to kill a part of the franchise that's already up and running and could easily be rebooted and reintroduced. Even if they want to cancel it, it makes zero business sense to badmouth part of the franchise before a new movie.
-
Well, we do know she is against Skynet. But why is she , a Terminator, against Skynet? What exactly is she trying to do? Is she really a friend to mankind? She sure seems to have no hesitation about killing people. (I agree that was probably her on the sub.)
Really, nothing was resolved at all. I don't think it was intended to be. That's why I'm baffled by people's opinion that it felt like a proper finale to the series. -
Just saying.
-
realize that moving shows from night to night is the kiss of death? I lost track of it when it went from Monday to Friday. (and I couldn't even watch Monday because it conflicted with MNF)
-
of evolving the show into Terminator: The John Conner Chronicles. Makes since after having Salvation be about John and the early parts of the war.
Picks up where T:TSCC left off but we get to see young John deal with learning to survive with out Mom to help, develop his fighting skills more and learn to be the resistance hero he turns into later.
Cameron can still be part of the show, either as the Terminator or the human woman the Terminator was designed to emulate.
The Reese brothers (John's dad and uncle) can also continue as supporting cast or cameo's.
If John goes back in time again so that young John can grow up to be the right age we see him in Salvation, then mommy Sarah can rejoin the cast if she is alive in the time he returns to. Mommy Sarah can also be in flashbacks or dreams John has. -
I'm not surprised. When a show gets good it's bye bye time from Fox the network where good shows go to die. They are such a suckass network.
I do hope they don't cancel it though. Mus think positive!! -
Stop the madness. If they move TSCC/Dollhouse to Thursdays it will be opposite Smallville/Supernatural. We only just got them to move it off Mondays opposite Chuck. That was a very difficult few months switching btw the two.
TSCC should go to Wednesday 8pm, right before LOST. No conflict. -
so as not to upset the movie franchise's continuity. They have a lot invested in the new movie trilogy.
-
this weekend in uk we had some fox executives in my hotel and I asked about T:tscc and the took me up to there suite and asked me to help them wipe there arses on the new scripts and also I was lucky enough to wipe my ass on a PG-13 rated T:Salvation.
-
so naturally I'm getting a kick out of this thread.
-
and I am sad
-
1) reality shows that suck up all the good timeslots. 2) Animated shows that live on for years after they stop being funny. 3) Great shows that get cancelled because they failed in the shitty timeslots left over after the reality shows took all the good times. OK, they also have House.
-
Atleast for cancelling TSCC. When it comes to everything else, they could kiss my black arse!
-
And if you don't like 24, you're a fucking commie.
-
First--i LOVE how the season ended... the best part about it, which is kind of subtle, is when they ask who he was and he says 'john connor,' like it MEANT SOMETHING... and no one cared. You don't quite pick up on why that was such a great moment until you step back and think about it. They set up season three to be new levels of awesome for the show. they would really have to try to fuck up that potential.
herc is always so quick to post anything bad about the show, yet week after week we see engaging supernatural and tscc talk on his beloved whedon's talkback, who no one really cared enough to talk about. Then he brings a 'news' from EW whose source appears to be completely incredible. Herc won't come out and say it, but he hates the show. he needs a partner, because he is flat out not in touch with what fans like nor does he have a complete grasp what is good on tv right now. There used to not be a peep about 'the office' but what happened? he gave it a chance and like it, and then there's a weekly talkback about a show that makes for shitty talkback, if any. I'd expect this kind of 'reporting' from some loser in his basement who thinks people read his blogs... but coax on aintitcool is a pretty big gig. If he doesn't want to inform himself, fine. then get a partner who has other kinds of tastes. He had no problem pushing Veronica Mars, which when you read a quick description of the show, it sounded ludacris. it was a good show. If he can give Veronica Mars a chance, it is beyond me why he won't acknowledge a show like supernatural. Its weird because he pretty much only makes talkbacks for his favorite shows, yet never engages in the discussion. It is for this reason I don't understand why he ignores us so much. Say what you will, but ignoring supernatural and tscc and giving WEEKLY talkbacks to dollhouse is beyond me. he is a professional but refuses to inform himself. Also, chuck has turned into an incredibly talkback worthy show, now that we're starting to see some story arcs and not just terrorist of the week (actually, come to think fo it, the same could be said about supernatural, which is the better show.) -
I read here dollhosue was cancelled, so i went to look for the talkback which said it. Imagine my reaction when i read that A NAMED SOURCE who actually plays a large role in the show or making it said it was cancelled, yet Herc still reminds us several times that 'this hasn't been confirmed yet, so there's still hope.' YOU KNOW HERC, I DON'T EVEN CARE IF I GET BANNED. SERIOUSLY, fuck you, YOU ARE WITHOUT A DOUBT THE MOST SELFISH, CLOSED MINDED AND OUT OF TOUCH WRITER ABOUT TELEVISION I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS. PEOPLE LISTEN TO YOU BECAUSE THEY ASSUME YOU'RE A PROFESSIONAL WHO KNOWS WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT. IF THIS IS YOUR JOB, DO SOME FUCKING RESEARCH. YOU SET DOUBLE STANDARDS ALL OVER THE PLACE AND HAVE LOST THE TINY BIT OF CREDIBILITY I HAD LEFT FOR YOU. YOU'RE SO TRANSPARENT IS ALMSOT FUNNY.
-
What did you expect to happen with this show when they moved it to Friday nights? People don't watch TV on Friday night for the most part (BSG and X Files were the exceptions to the rule) and 99% of the shows they move there are in hope of saving some other show (e.g. Dollhouse). God forbid they move American Idol to Friday nights. Terminator, Prison Break, and other shows in the Monday night slot had no chance to do well because Heroes is pretty much the show to beat out. That said, you move them to Tuesday night. Bottom line is you don't put on shows you want to succeed in any Friday night slot. Period.
If the show is indeed canceled I hope the producers are smart enough to shop the show around to either Spike or Sci-Fi.
I hope it wasn't canceled. -
What will I do without Summer Glau and Eliza Dushku.....?
-
Fox pays for fist airing rights, that's all. While it's true the ratings have been bad (while still better than Dollhouse), that doesn't mean the show is over. It may well mean that WB is giving it to another network like SyFy, or even putting it on CW. With Salvation coming up I wouldn't discount that at all.
