Capone has CAPRICA DVDs to give away and details on how to win one!!!

Published at:  Apr 14, 2009 2:16:10 AM CDT

Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here, venturing once again into the realm of Hercules' lair of all things Coaxial. And like anyone daring to enter his realm, you have to bring gifts to appease his Holiness. And I have just such gifts.

I don't have to tell "Battlestar Galactica" fans that the first chapter of the "Caprica" prequel (set 50 years before the events at the beginning of the BSG pilot) is about to hit DVD on April 21 as a limited-edition uncut and unrated version before the series' broadcast premiere on the Sci Fi Channel in 2010. You've seen the clips and trailers, and I'm intrigued about as much as I can be. I'm just excited to see how Cylons came into being and what role the Adama family apparently played in these extraordinary events. Plus, it would appear there's a ton of sex in this first episode of the new series.

I've got five copies of the "Caprica" DVD just burning a hole on my desk ready to give away to our readers. Here's what you have to do to win. Send me an email at capone@aintitcoolmail.com with the subject line "CAPRICA CONTEST". In the body of the email, I need your full name, mailing address, and the answer to the following question: What mystery from the BSG universe do you hope to see solved during the "Caprica" series?

I only need one example. Keep your answers to 75 words or less. I'll look them over during the next couple of days, and contact the winners directly. Now, the winners' prizes won't be mailed until April 21, so if you absolutely have to have your copy on the day it comes out, don't enter this contest. But if you can wait a bit, we'll try and hook you up. Good luck everyone.

it was dark and creepy as hell and a bit awesome. "like terminator only shittier." it's not trying to be something like terminator.. it's mostly about families dealing with loss. it's a drama first and foremost and sci fi second. why can't people seem to grasp that idea?

    by ceejaynightwing

What a fantastic pilot, I don't think anyone was expecting it to be that good. 90 minutes and they nailed everything on the head to get practically anyone with or without an ounce of BSG interest invested. Gangsters, schoolgirls, sex, industrial espionage, judicial corruption, virtual reality, clyons, military contracts, secret societies and terrorism. This is gonna be another landmark scifi show easily!

    by murdermostfowl

If they can keep the series going long enough, you know the finale is built in to the show... the show will end with the first cylon war. You could have the focus change to Adama and Tigh and their first command on Galactica ( of course you'd have to have different actors )
Of course for some stupid reason they sold off and destroyed the set, so... there's that.

The trailers made it look pretty cheap and not super appealing and although I was very interested in seeing it I wasnt expecting it to be as good as it was for some reason.

I really like how it feels like a completely separate thing from BSG yet still retaining the same overall feel with the music and directing etc.

"How are there people in existence that actually give a shit about this show?" Yeah. me, tons of people I know, and the people who posted above you saying they liked it. That question is always makes it easy to see which talkbackers are pathetic--they go into talkbacks they don't care about, and then think just cause they don't care, nobody cares. If you don't care, get the fuck off the talkback you loser."Has there ever been a more conservative and more luddite science fiction show?" Show? i don't know. i don't WATCH much sci fi. I do read scifi, however, and i would guess you would find a very, very large percentage of real and quality scifi. You're the type of ignorant idiot who says 'what, no space battles? no action scenes? that's filler. and that's not scifi. You aren't a scifi fan... your type are more michael bay fans than scifi fans, based on what you think scifi is about (action, space battles and big explosions) the reality is you'll find more of that in michael bay films and not so much in quality scifi, which is mostly written.

It's way too soon for them to give us this IMO

    by performingmonkey

OK I've watched the fucking (or should I say 'frakking', yes indeed they throw 'frak' in there after about 3 minutes, just in case you were wondering whether this really was connected to the Galactica universe) pilot and while it's a completely different show to Galactica it still entertained me a great deal. The cast is great (though Eric Stoltz perhaps didn't shine as much as he should have, considering he's the lead role), especially the guy playing Joseph Adama, Polly Walker playing the priest woman, the two young girls (I like how they're trying to make us believe they're only 16, give me a fucking break) Zoe and Lacy. A few of the important beats should have been a little stronger and more emotional IMO but this is only the pilot and they don't want to shoot their entire prostrate onto the screen. There's no action, apart from the centurion demo scene and the bomb (ooh controversial!). OK there IS action if you call tits 'action'. Why did we get no tits in Galactica? OK we got as close to tits as possible, especially with the nude Boomer scenes! The premise is very good, though it's gonna suffer like any other prequel because we know where a lot of it's going to lead. The Adama (or 'Adams') family thread is going to be strong. They even kept the frakkin' musical theme from Galactica! You know, the one that plays every time Adama hugs Lee or something. That surprised me actually, as did the explanation for using the name 'Adams', it all feels so genuine, the racism and religion angles the show is taking. Greystone and his wife could end up being the weak link in the whole series. The sex scene they had with them was a little pointless maybe. The sex scene with Baltar and Six in the Galactica pilot worked because of the characters. Here it's just a husband and wife. It's as though they had them frakking just to try and attract people to the show. The same goes for the virtual tits. Not that I mind sex in the show, but you just KNOW that trend won't continue in the main series.

I just watched the Deleted Scenes..

    by ceejaynightwing

and there are two pretty good plot-builders in there that I'm surprised they left out of the final cut. Seriously, for those still moaning about not understanding th ending of Galactica etc, simply movie on and find something else to do with your lives. For those who were intrigued like me about what exactly Starbuck was, how the Cylons and their beliefs originated and how the original five came about etc then this piolt alone will give you very solid ideas about how this is gonna go about revealing those answers. This piolt show essentially is about the three things we learn about the new Cylons in BSG, regeneration, their propagating of the one-God theory and just as importantly their use of solid virtual reality projection. In this pilot you will see all these things in their early stages of origin and realise how important they will be to explaining a lot of what we saw in the BSG series and its underrated and mostly misunderstood finale. And just for refference the sex scens in the show are not graphic, just brief nudity in the virtual world where sex is used as a menu item. The love scene between Eric Stoltz and his wife is not pointless, it follows the failure of them to reconnect after losing thier child and his losing her again to oblivion in his experiment. Ultimately they reach what most parents to after a long period of loss and that's the urge to try again for another child the old fashioned way. Great pilot 10/10

    Battlestar finale was great

    by thefreeman

It was one of the most powerful episodes of television Ive ever seen. I dont give a shit if we didnt find out exactly what Kara was. Go back and rewatch season 4, there were plenty of hints and lines of dialogue that pointed towards her being some sort of angel or instrument of God. By the time she disappeared in the finale, it didnt matter to me that we never knew for sure, I was just so wrapped up in everything else I was seeing.

By the time All along the watchtower started playing at the end, I was like, fuck yeah, this finale just blew 90% of tv Ive seen out of the water.

    by thegoldbergv

wasn't sure about Caprica before, although reaction seems pretty positive. I like that they are using actual Vancouver locations and retaining the 'natural' feel of BSG. With Trixie off of Deadwood and Atia off of Rome plus the Joeseph Adama character it look promising.

And the BSG finale was awesome. I don't care if Starbuck disapeared or that Roslin didn't die BEFORE reaching the 'promised land', it was a GREAT send off to a fantastic series.

Someone who has seen Caprica tell me...

    by klytus_i.m_bored

Is Greystone's house the same house as Baltar's? And if so, I assume it's intentional right? That would be a neat little semantic tie - both of the geniuses who (kinda) caused the Cylon Wars living in the same house. But maybe it's just a really similar style of home - a popular house style on Caprica or something.

    not exactly the same

    by thefreeman

From what I can tell it is similar in design to Baltars house but there are clear differences between them.

On this subject though, I also though parts of the virtual club looked similar to sections of the opera house weve seen

No, the season finale of BSG has ruined Crapica for me.

    by leafar the lost

I will not give Crapica a chance. Why should I? In about 50 years the colony of Caprica will be destroyed by the Cylons. 5 years later the survivers will go to our Earth 150,000 years in the past, and for someone inconceivable reason they give up their technology. Within 1-2 years most of them are dead due to disease, famine, getting eaten by sabretooth tigers, or getting killed by tribes of primitive humans. I am sure they will keep the hot females alive, like Athena and Six, as sex slaves. Then, 150,000 years later Balter and Six are still around as Angels who serve "It", because It doesn't like being called God. Did I miss something? Unless "Crapica" has nothing at all to do with BSG, then I am not watching. Fuck you, Ron Moore, for ruining "Crapica" for me. I was looking forward to watching it before I saw the BSG finale. You are the evil Cylon God, Moore, because only an evil god could ruin two shows with one episode.

    by donkey_lasher

I'm going to give my opinion.

It was slow in parts and could have withstood some cuts but I enjoyed it. The earlier poster who said that this was slightly creepy is right. This was Ron Moore's way of showing just what could happen to our own society. The Nightclub was intense, and I liked the fleshing out of Adama's character. I particularly liked the ending, which made me think of the scene at the end of that Heroes episode when Clare wakes during her autopsy, somewhat expected, but still a "WTF" moment. I hope that this works as a season, and would request a couple of things for the writers

    1. As little of Bill as possible, We don't need another Young Indy Adama Chronicles.
    2. More Zoe Graystone.

your reply to donkey lasher makes was completely illogical and only made it even more clear how unbelievably stupid you are. Nobody gives a fuck what you say, and why should they? you're whining about bsg and caprica, and won't even give caprica a chance. The only thing that is clear and proven is that nobody gives a fuck what you say, because you're just one guy who doesn't give a fuck what EVERYONE ELSE says, and everyone who has seen it and commented have been suprisingly positive. Why should anyone give a fuck what you say when you admit you don't care enough to watch this and make an informed opinion. Ignoring all the positivity makes it clear that you are the only one who doesn't give a fuck what everyone else says. Just get off the talkback. bsg wasn't for you and caprica isn't for you... i'm glad you won't be giving it a chance because since you have already made up your mind i would hope that would mean you won't be here every week nitpicking and hating on it. Of course, you do seem like the kind of talkbacker who would rather talk trash instead of watch the show and judge it fairly on its flaws and accomplishments. Nobody will miss you, and nobody cares you hated the finale because we enjoyed it, and we're not going to change our minds because that trademark loser talkbackers won't let go and won't stop talking about how much they hated it.
