Hey folks, Harry here... When I was in the editing room with JJ on STAR TREK, the first scene he showed me and Yoko was a newborn SPOCK scene. The effects for the background were not quite in yet, but I loved the photography of it - but didn't know what purpose it had to the overall film - especially when he showed me a clip of the "birth of Kirk" sequence. The instant thought that dawned on me was... How were both scenes going to not feel repetitive given the brevity that is usually desired in this sort of film. I didn't know how they fit together, but I commented to Merrick later than night that I wouldn't be surprised if the Kirk or the Spock births were cut in the final product. Having seen the film - I can say - there's no way in the universe that the Kirk sequence should be cut because it is absolutely instrumental to the entire thing.
So - these first two shots are of Baby Spock on Vulcan. With Winona Ryder and Ben Cross as Amanda and Sarek. You still see them in the movie, just at a separate juncture in the film.
