Hey now! Larry Sanders in... IRON MAN 2!?! Updated w/ pics! Cheadle as Rhodey!

Published at: April 7, 2009, 5:50 a.m. CST by quint

Quint here again... A site called spoilertv has pics up from the first day of shooting! I've posted two of them below, click on either to get all the rest. Behind the scenesy stuff, but you get a look at Tony Stark's return and the first look at Don Cheadle in costume... of course it just looks like Don Cheadle in a suit, but it's the first look nonetheless. Enjoy!

I wanna see what's in Downey's Iron Man lunch box! Or poker chip case. Or whatever that is!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I'm out for comment on this particular rumor, but I figured it was too weird and potentially awesome not to throw out there. IESB is reporting that Garry Shandling was on set today, the first day of shooting on IM2. Apparently, Robert Downey Jr. mentioned Shandling being in the movie last week... which was news to me, but last week I was buried in ShoWest and/or poker in Vegas, so I wouldn't be surprised if that information slipped past me. IESB says Shandling was shooting in a scene that is to be a continuation of the "I Am Iron Man" press conference scene that ended the first flick, guessing that Shandling might be a reporter or Senator of some sort. I think Shandling playing a pain in the ass investigative journalist would be pretty swell, personally. Like I said, I'm out for comment, but pairing Shandling and Downey together makes me happy, if curious how their particular chemistry can work in an Iron Man flick. Also, if you haven't been keeping up, Jon Favreau has been updating his Twitter account from the set. I've included one of his Twitpics below. Click it to get to his Twitter page, then follow him to keep up on the minute by minute of the filmmaking process!

worked for me a hell of a lot better than a lot of other comic movie crap out there...xmen, spiderman, watchmen. For me personally its depressing factor made TDK all the more interesing and badass.

    Smart move

This way if Gary Shandling holds out for more money in the next Iron Man the way Terrence Howard did they can always threaten to have his role re-cast with Jon Stewart

What's cool with following John is that i get the sense is he just like the characters he plays on TV and Film..a cool guy you wanna hnag with...PLUS...John likes to take you on "Geek" tours of his home that has a lot of cool movie props from the films he has worked on!!

But he does have his moments. His appearence on Craig Ferguson showed that he still has it, but you have to sit through a lot of junk to get to it.

  • April 7, 2009, 7:49 a.m. CST

Hope to see more fun, which "Iron Man" was.

    by JackPumpkinhead

It was a damn nice, fun, entertaining film. Very much unlike drab, moronic, gloomy "grim and realistic" garbage like "Batman VI", or the pathetic "Oh, oh, oh! I'm mithunderthtood! Waaaah!" angst of the failure that was "Superman V".

Plus, unlike that Batman VI guy, Favreau is able to shoot WITHOUT SHAKECAMS. Showing things in focus and in 0 at Richter's scale is a novel and daring idea, I know, not attempted since the 70s, but somehow Favreau made it work!

Hopefully "Iron Man II" will keep going down Fun Alley rather than Glum Avenue. Keep it fun, avoid any pathetic attempts to make some desperate twats feel that "comic book movies can be serious!", by making them dull and gloomy.

Dude, if you're going to consider ALL Batman movies part of the same series (which is stupid), The Dark Knight should be Batman VII. Or have you forgotten the '60s Batman movie?

    CHEADLE ROCKS

    by Regicidal_Maniac

He looks awesome there and while I feel for Terrence Howard and am annoyed at actor changes, Cheadle looks like he belongs in the film here. Which is good because I had my doubts. AND Iron Man was WAY more fun than Dark Knight, (as good as TDK was) you know it to be true.

    by DoctorWho?

...after a few repeated viewings and I wish he was in this. I know it's old news but was it money or just ego? And I have seen Iron Man more than TDK because it's more enjoyable...not better. It's just that you've got to hunker down and commit to the dark journey which is TDK. You've got to be in that mood. I've had Brannagh's Hamlet sitting at my house now for a month from Netflix because I just haven't been in that zone. Certain films demand a lot.

    Watch Gervais "interviewing" Shandling...

    by DanielKurland

It's one of the most painful things I've ever seen. Gervais is just telling him how much of an influence and mentor he has been to him, and Shandling is fucking mean as hell to him. He basically just starts ignoring him towards the end. Gervais' meeting with Larry David is much nicer.

Wait, wait, wait... Scarlett Johansson is in this?

    by Franklin T Marmoset

    by Franklin T Marmoset

I've been reading some of your posts, and this business of Scarlett not being right for the part makes no sense to me.
She's Scarlett Johansson - she's right for ANY part.
I would happily watch Scarlett Johansson play the lead role in Real Deal: The Evander Holyfield Story, and even though she is not A) Male, B) Black, C)A Heavyweight (or former Cruiserweight), and D) Boxing's warrior spirit; I would still thoroughly enjoy her performance in that film.
Because she is Scarlett Johansson.

Gary Shandling Show isn't just "up there"

    by Itchy

in the top 10 comedies, it's within the top 3. Name me 3 that were more innovative or funnier ? It pioneered the "raunchy HBO" genre, pioneered the "poking fun of" celebrity "sort of" cameos that dominate tv today, and was just consistantly the 30 minutes of riotous insecurity. I think if I had to rate tv comedies all time, I'd probably have a hard time picking "the best" from All in the Family, I Love Lucy, Gary Shandling or Cheers ... but you could make a good case for any of them.

with a bunch of cranky old bastards in rocking chairs waving their shotguns at any new developments. I mean, for fuck's sake, how can you be bothered expending energy hating Twitter? Don't you have bigger fish to fry? I run an independent cult/foreign video store and we use Twitter as a free online marketing tool because a lot of our customers use social networking sites. I personally don't see what the problem is - at least we're getting info about projects we're excited about. Who gives a fuck where it comes from?

The producers of this movie must think all black men look alike.

    by Leafar the Lost

Now that I have seen Don Cheadle replace Terrence Howard in the role of James Rhodes, I am getting that old racist feeling again. I may be wrong, but it sounded like Terrence wanted to be paid what he was worth for the sequel, so the producers decided to make an example of him. Personally, I think that Don Cheadle is a great, Oscar worthy actor. I loved "Hotel Rwanda". However, the brother has got to eat, so I don't blame him taking the role. I blame the greedy bastards over at Marvel for treating Terrence like a (n-word) and making an example out of him to scare the other actors. Apparently, the only irreplacable actor is Robert Downey Jr., and even he could be replaced by Tom Cruise.

    by daggor

I saw that interview, and it appeared that Shandling was pretending to be a jerk, using the style of humor that Gervais was saying he enjoys so much. It was awkward, like Gervais' "Office," but Shandling also offered Gervais a jacket due to the chill. I guess what throws people is that Shandling doesn't start giggling when he's kidding, as Gervais does.

Whoa, 'The Dark Knight' was a lot more depressing and a lot less fun than 'Iron Man'? Maybe that's because it was supposed to be. Anyway I'm excited to see them get back into the swing of things; I really liked Iron Man and am looking forward to seeing how the story develops in Iron Man 2... despite the fact that I also thought Nolan's Batman film was awesome. ago the co-creator of twitter and apparently some big corp. ala, Intel or something like that offered to buy twitter for around 500 million and they were turned down. Twitter in a couple of years will be on vh1 show when they do the way back when thing on 2009. It's one of the most narcissistic things reg. folk or anybody for that matter could be into. Hey, at 12:22 a took a shit. 1:04 went to Chilli's to eat nachos. 1:36 took piss in restroom. 2:17 wanted to jerk off but couldn't cause of work, etc. That my friends is Twitter in a nutshell. Tech. is wonderful but it also can be a detriment to "real" relationships and anti-social behavior and could lead to younger folk not learning how to function around other people half-way normally. I could go on and on but I'm a cat who isn't on Facebook, myspace or now Twitter so maybe i"m the wrong guy to listen to. I prefer actually talking to people face to face when possible. As often as I can. Don't even have text. I'm 34 and remember the whole "beeper" craze in the early or mid nineties. That was back when only doctors or really important people had them before. I suppose it makes people feel more popular and important.

Mullah Omar - Stark's name on door.

    by Munro Kelly

I don't know if RDJ is a method actor or not, but all movie productions have been doing this for a while now. The idea is, supposedly to throw off the public, when they park on the streets. They don't want to advertise, to the public, that RDJ, Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt is here, to disrupt filming. It's not 100% but it throws off about 70% of the public. Of course, with a high profile sequel, a lot of people know who Tony Stark is. This works best with unknown projects where the public wouldn't know any of the characters names.

For the record, Terrence Howard was the highest-paid actor on 'Iron Man,' so whatever Howard left over it wasn't wanting to be paid "like everybody else." Do you have problems with your eyesight, Dr. Whore?

    by Leafar the Lost

I'm sorry, I thought I still had my Constitutional right of Free Speech. I guess that only applies to you. I wasn't aware that a non-White person could be a racist, but I have been wrong before. I like White people, especially the ones that look like Megan Fox. I find that the most racist people love to call other people racists. Does that apply to you, Dr. Whore? In my opinion, this decision stinks of racism, because Terrence was the first actor replaced. It reminded me of an Old South lynching when they hung the black man up in a public place to scare the other African-Americans into submission. Of course, it was also scaring the White people into submission too, but most of those folks never got that part. What am I saying? I think that Hollywood producers act very quickly to replace a "Brother" or "Sister" when he or she is giving them a hard time about the money. They tend to negotiate with the White actors before replacing them with someone younger and cheaper. I see things in a more colorful way, and I guess that you see things in a more black & white way. By the way, do you have problems with your eyesight, Dr. Whore?

    by Leafar the Lost

INCONTINENT 1. unable to restrain natural discharges or evacuations of urine or feces. 2. unable to contain or retain (usually fol. by of): incontinent of temper. 3. lacking in moderation or self-control, esp. of sexual desire. 4. unceasing or unrestrained: an incontinent flow of talk. When I saw that you could actually copy and paste from Dictionary.com, the word "incontinent" immeaditely formed in my mind as a perfect description of you.
