Fred Dekker speaks out about that NIGHT OF THE CREEPS DVD and... Blu-Ray?
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with an update on that NIGHT OF THE CREEPS DVD news that broke from an interview at Deadpit.com. I've gotten word from director Fred Dekker on what's going on.
Yes, it's a reality. Yes, it's a special edition, much akin to what Michael Felsher and Dekker put together with the Monster Squad release, with at least one, but potentially two commentary tracks, deleted scenes and a doc on the making of the movie.
That's all to be expected, but he said they are currently considering a Blu-Ray release as well. Dekker said the transfer is amazing, better than the Monster Squad transfer (he said that was due to shooting MS in anamorphic, which softens the focus)... and the big question from the fans about this director's cut ending vs. the theatrical ending... I'll let Fred speak for himself:
Most exciting for me is that they've given me the thumbs-up to put the original ending back onto the body of the theatrical feature. The compromised "Zombie Dog" ending will be on the disc as an "added value" extra, but the feature will end as it was originally meant to. (The TV version, which features the original ending, has many of its own compromises being that it was the TV version). In other words, this will be the first time the movie will be seen as it was originally intended.
Like I said previously, I love this film and this is great news, especially that there's a good possibility we'll be seeing a Blu-Ray release. There's the update from the main man! October seems a long way away, doesn't it?

For those who think Dead Pit is a a reliable site, hunt around or email me and I can tell you how they utterly trashed the Rondo awards, which they did not win, the board that gives them out, and the other horror audio sites out there.
Please guys. I love ya, and I've been reading this site since just before the legendary Batman And Robin debacle. Don't rely on these children for your stories, if you can help it. You do yourselves no favors.

Best DVD news of the year! :D

...a thousand times before I followed Eric on Twitter. Maybe if there was a gun involved and I HAD to choose between Quint, Merrick or Beaks.
-
You realize that story I posted was my own follow-up with Fred Dekker... nothing above was in the original interview with the DVD producer on Dead Pit. Kinda funny being so judgmental and critical and getting it completely wrong.Em, glad to read your comment on my story that you'd never follow my thoughts on a website where you can then comment on my thoughts.

I recorded this off of HBO back in the day. Watched it hundreds of times. I love the ending with the slug spitting dog, but what happens in the original?
-
i hope this does come out on bluray.has there been any more talk of a monster squad bluray?

From Wikipedia:
"The ending he wanted: the scene of Chris and Cynthia standing in front of the burning sorority house moves to the street where cop cars race down the street. The charred and zombified Cameron is seen shuffling down the street when he suddenly stops and falls to the ground, his head explodes and the slugs scamper out and head into a cemetery. However, the spaceship from the beginning of the film has returned with the aliens intending to retrieve their experiment." Also, on a personal level, I'm looking forward to seeing what the Red Wings will do in the postseason - I'm a Caps fan (tough loss tonight, but hey - SE Div. champions) and I like watching Red Wings games. Is that an odd dichotomy, or am I just a hockey fan? -
pretty cool.
-
...I happen to like Night of the Creeps and was interested in what Fred Dekker has to say. How does that make my personal opinion that I'd rather not follow you on Twitter irrelevant? I had no idea that just because I like a certain film and you posted an article about said film that meant I had to like you.I said you were better than Merrick or Beaks, isn't that enough love for one talkback?
-
...I find your constant sucking of Stephen Kings' cock to be a little insufferable. I found your statements about how you approach character building the same as Pixar does when writing your nursing home horror movie to be hilarious. I think it's a little sad when you decide to critique things you've obviously never seen such as The Sarah Connor Chronicles when you described Garret Dillahunt as a steroid freak... but other than that you and I are solid, buddy, so don't cry.
-
While it's true I'm making fun of you, which I'm sure is breaking your heart that some guy on the internet is mocking you, I do hope your movie is good cuz I likes me a good horror movie,
-
I like hockey, just not a follower. Picked this name because it sounded cool...and I've earned my redwings once.
-
Nest set from getting your RedWings is graduating to a pirate: you go down and become Redbeard... Personal experience dictates that you'll be flossing for a week! Very happy about the news on Night of the Creeps, as we read about the other ending years ago in Gorezone - yep, that was at school!
-
I stand corrected. Dead Pit's in the middle of a whole lotta crap they started and I'm afraid that my "displeasure" towards them got the better of me. I never meant to pass any judgment towards you. Sorry.

I'm just cranky tonight. I got 2 hours of sleep before leaving early this morning from Vegas for a day of horrible travel, delayed planes, missed connections when all I wanted to do was get home and catch up on some sleep. I just got a bit grouchy and defensive. Em, you gotta admit you went out of your way to be a bit of a douche. I don't feel I invited it, just trying to get the word out to Night of the Creeps fans what to expect on the DVD. That interview I did with Beaks was odd for me, personally... being on the other side of things for a change, but I will say I never meant to compare myself to the Pixar team, just that I hope I'm following the same line of thought that they do. I'm proud of the script, but in no way would I ever think I'm on those guys' level. They're the best in the business at making pictures with a broad appeal without compromising on character or playing to the lowest common denominator. If I came across as a jackass comparing himself to some of the greatest story tellers ever, then I apologize. I certainly didn't intend that and don't feel that way... I am, however, confused on the Sarah Connor Chronicles thing. I don't even know who that is. The only comments I've made have been after catching an episode from this season and thinking how ridiculously teeny-bopper vision Kyle Reese is. If you love the show, good on ya'. I gave it a couple of episodes. Not my thing, but I don't remember calling anyone a steroid freak.
-
Off-topic sorry! Creeps is great.
-
A bit of a douche? Come on man I was being a total douche, and then you had to come back and talk to me all reasonably. Geez. If it's any consolation my head is killing me because I was duh-runk (and belligerent) last night, but the beauty of the internet is it will be there forever. That said, while I'm being apologetic, I still don't care for Beaks and his attitude most of the time.As for the Terminator thing I'm confused though are you saying you don't know who Garrett Dillahunt of No Cuntry for Old Men, Last House on the Left, and Deadwood amongst things is? Anyway back early in the first season sometime you said you didn't like the show and specificaly pointed out th steroid freaks they had playing Terminators even though Dillahunt and Summer Glau were the only two real Terminators on the show which, of course, led to a talkback of many people pointing out how you obviously had made up your mind without seeing the show because what you were describing didn't exist.
-
While I was busting your balls about a year old comment for my own amusement I'm totally okay with judging if a show (or movie or book or whatever) is or isn't for you based upon little contact with it. No one has time to watch or read everything in existence just to figure out which things they like.
-
That's indeed good news that this will be hitting Blu-Ray, but will they bring Monster Squad to the pristine new format as well? Will these be quality transfers?
Also, we have to wait until October, um the world is in turmoil folks, lets step up the production pace. -
I have been waiting for this for years! I probably watched this movie 30 times as a kid and have missed it dearly...thanks Dekker!!!!
-
Can't wait!
-
... but I actually prefer the zombie dog ending. Come on Fred, be the decent sort and give us the option of seamless branching!
-
That was my geekgasm for the the day. You're welcome.
-
I watched "Creeps" last year on a high def channel for the first time since I was twelve. First off, the cable 720p transfer looked great and I can't wait to see this flick on Blue Ray.
Another thing which really struck me was how GOOD the film is... I mean it's a late 80's horror flick, so I'm not going to try and sell you on the notion that it's a masterpiece. But I wouldn't get mad if someone said it was better than Evil Dead 2. But this film has a lot of fun, clever dialogue that puts it on par with stuff like Scream and Slither. This was the same era where Freddy and Jason were usually the best you could hope for. If you remade it today, you could use the exact same script and it'd still be a great update. I love this movie! -
Was Robo3 that unforgivable a sin?
-
Hopefully made better,....hard to beat the original ending,....intended or not.
-
Though I prefer Fred Dekker's original ending, I think the full theatrical version should also be included in the dvd release instead of making that ending an "added value" extra. So it will be a complete release, and to avoid the future online petitioning of a theatrical dvd release by fans who liked that version better.
I hope Dekker can get Jason Lively (Chris), Jill Whitlow (Cindy), Steve Marshall (J.C.), Tom Atkins (Cameron), and Allan Kayser (Brad) to do audio commentary. -
Let's see what the man has up his sleeve!? F - Neveldine and Taylor.
-
Great news. That is all.
-
Not that stupid remake but a monster squad sequel with them older and the monsters returning would be awesome
-
hmmm....well considering how the guy who played Dracula has barely aged, frankenstein is makeup so Noonan could come back, and the other 3 are simple makeup, it would totally be possible to bring em back. they could even use the real life death of "fat kid" as a reason for the gang to get back together. maybe a monster killed him offscreen or something. and Phoebe must be part of the team, partly because she pretty much saved their asses but also because she's quite tasty today.
