Cool News
I got good news and bad news, girls. The good news is NIGHT OF THE CREEPS is coming out on DVD! There is no bad news!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Technically I should be standing in the 30 people long line waiting to change my connecting flight from Vegas to Austin, but when I found out McCarron International Airport had free wi-fi I knew I could use this delay to update one of the best stories of the week as far as I'm concerned.
Fred "Monster Squad" Dekker's freshman film, NIGHT OF THE CREEPS, is finally hitting DVD. I was extremely happy to have a small role in helping push for a DVD release of MONSTER SQUAD and I can't be happier at this news. Not only will we get NIGHT OF THE CREEPS this October, but it's said to be a bells and whistles release.
When I interviewed the great Tom Atkins I couldn't stop talking about this movie, a genuinely hilarious horror comedy about alien slugs that jump into your mouth and turn you into a zombie. It's long been one of my favorites and the first of one of the best one-two punches of the '80s. I grew up on this movie and Monster Squad and soon you can own both.
The news comes from an interview Michael Felsher did with deadpit.com. Here's the release they put out:
Dear Editors:
The innovators of Horror Talk Radio at DEADPIT.com had a brief chat late Thursday with DVD producing mogul Michael 'Slipcase' Felsher from Red Shirt Pictures. We learned that this Halloween is going to be creepier than ever with Fred Dekker's Night of the Creeps at least hitting official DVD,
Felsher states: 'In October Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will be releasing Night of the Creeps to DVD in a directors cut special edition, it is coming out officially for the first time ever. Fred Dekker is already working on it, It's going to be the director's cut with the original ending. We're going to go balls to the wall with the special features on it...I talked to Sony today its official, we're going ahead and its coming out in October!' 'It's officially In production...and moving forward, its coming!'
Please note this is NOT an April Fools Joke as we did the interview on April 2nd! It is OFFICIAL! Spread the word folks, we're all uber excited here at DEADPIT!
Listen to the entire conversation on the April 3rd edition of DEADPIT Radio over on the website DEADPIT.COM !
CK
I guess I better get back in line and see when exactly I get to go home. But now you know! Celebrate, rejoice, dance in the streets! Thrill me!

it's one thing to have a hand in something, it's another to constantly remind us.

What's happening to this site lately? All these commercials for DVDs and Bluerays and merchandise we gotta buy...
News used to be a lot cooler...
-
But only if there's also the option to watch the theatrical version too. Though having said that, at least there's bootlegs of the HD version floating around. And all the deleted/cheesy alternate scenes from the TV version better be on there!!! (In particular the shot of the girls doing a weird dance in the hallway that replaces some shower nudity.)
-
It's when the cop guy character is dreaming about this killer, and the killer's head turns, with this weird music cue, and just as it's about to turn it's head all the way around-it's revealed his head is this weirdo zombie skull- the cop wakes up from his dream. I haven't watched it again since... *shiver.
-
I repeat: Fuck yeah!
-
He came to Charlotte along with George A. Romero. He seemed like a really cool guy. Just a big, humorous, fanboy character who loves doing what he does. He also gets to be a zombie in Romero's next, "? of the Dead".
-
Yeah, that scene always made me shit. In fact, I just shit myself again. IJSM... Copyright that.
So I don't post to AICN often, but in the five posts I've made in the past twelve hours, four have been about shitting. Excuse me, I need to call my therapist.

My Mother HATED this movie!....My brother and I used FREAK out when it came on ...I think like, cinemax or showtime?...talking Old School cable. So gross, so awesome...yay! bbb wheatus.com

I will finally live my Night of the Creeps/Slither double-feature dream.
-
I enjoyed being the only kid on my block who had the bootleg made from the HD broadcast. now we're all equal again.
-
..that thinks this film was shit. It has not aged well, the whole horror parody bar was set by Sean of the Dead a few years back.
-
where upon being seige by the slug-infested dead, Tom does a "yelling spin attack" and takes out 3 opponents. BAD FUCKING ASS!!!
This movie was fully-loaded with ONE-LINERS and SNARK-FACTOR set on high!
Tom and Jason really made this movie! Glad to see it out on DVD.

Now I can unleash my version: "Night of the Crepes"
-
This movie scared the shit out of me when I was a kid! The fucking decomposed zombie coming up out of the floor? Creepy as all get out. I cannot wait for this!
-
Tom Atkins is the dope-bomb! I just rewatched 'Maniac Cop' the other night and he is so awesome in it. "Yelling Spin Attack"-HollywoodHellraiser FTW!
-
Great flick. I'll be picking this one up.
-
I now have cum in my pants.
-
I was gonna just put that up there! "It's Miller Time!" Still is part of my everyday vocabulary and it has nothing to do with the ad campaign, but everything to do with Atkins' dead perfect delivery of that line.

Sweetness.i'll be buying this for sure.i think it's cool they're releasing it in october around halloween.one of my favorite memories as a kid was after trick or treating my grandma letting all of us stay up eat candy and watch scary movies.LONG LIVE 80's horror
-
In the 80's.
-
...but it sure smells good!
-
I've never seen Night of the Creeps. Yippee!
-
About damn time! Now I can set aside my HD dvd bootleg that I picked up (yup, its awesome, pristine quality, was taken from some HD channel or something somewhat recently), and buy the official release. I totally want to buy the official version with all the extra's. I'd buy the official version even if there were no extra's just to have it on a dvd burned straight from the manufacture which are better than home made dvd-r's). Which goes to show that at least for us real fans, bootlegging doesn't hurt a damn bit. Hell, I plan on buying TWO copies of this. One to watch and one to put away. Real fans support the stuff they love!
-
And I did not go around selling my HD bootleg of Night of the Creeps all over the place either (not that I care, as long as fans buy it when it come out I dont care what people do). But I just dont have the time for that sort of thing.
-
Personally, as jimmythesaint also mentioned above, I like the option of having both endings available.
I still remember how crushingly boring I found the "original" Army of Darkness ending (so it's dark--so what, it's also blah), and then how frustrated I was when I realized the theatrical ending wasn't even available on the "special" DVD version I bought. Sure, it was cheesy, but it was the one I first experienced the movie with.
Moral of the story: Always provide both options on the DVD.

What about that scene where Jason cripple friend

buys it while trying to escape from the restroom? That note he left was all sad and shit. That scene was corny but damn did it hit me!
Oh lets not foget that lawnmower scene. I was actually afraid to used my old man's mower for awhile. Afraid I might trip or some shit and kill myself.
Man, when you're young you think of all kinds of ways that you might die or something.
-
Great news! I still have my HBO Video Laserdisc of this movie but can't wait for a nice shiny pristine dvd directors cut. One of the all time greats.

FRED DEKKER fo' life!!!!!
-
You got it- Why no images? Why!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
for a Monster Sqaud fan like myself- who knows you never see it clearly in the film. It fucking hurts to know that the only guy a MS fan like myself has it, and absolutely can't be geeky cool enough to show it off.... What gives Quint!!!
-
Fine, fine. I'll take some pics. Probably tomorrow. I'm almost asleep at the keyboard now. Little sleep over the week plus 2 hours of sleep before 10 hours of hellish travel = exhaustion supreme.
-
Uwe Boll is remaking it
-
Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Quint. Seriously!
-
SLITHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
... the way it was meant to be seen. At one in the morning, on cable. (Okay, so it was YouTube. Hey, whatever works.) Damn, that was a fun time. Gave me something to do in front of my computer other than work on my anth paper or... you know. A helluva lot better than The Haunting in CT, that's for damn sure. When I get this DVD, first thing I'm doing is watching it with Slither as a double feature.
