Published at:  Jul 28, 1999 4:52:19 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here with a link to the JOAN OF ARC/ THE MESSENGER trailer for Luc Besson's latest. My computer's sound is all screwy at the moment, so I'm gonna hold off till I can download it and hear it. Sigh... Technology.... Here ya go..

I just wanted to let you know that I came across the trailer for Luc
Besson's "Joan of Arc". I mean "The Messenger: The Story of Joan of
Arc". What a stupid name change!

    Bad Trailer

    by snowshadow

Why do these things always come out in pairs? Didn't they just do a made-for-tv-movie recently. This is like the whole Volcano-Dante's Peak thing a couple of years ago.

    Luc Besson

I thought the fifth element stunk. it was ok for about the first fifteen minutes but the leopard skin wearing DJ was just so annoying you wanted to kill him within a minute. I saw the film on its early release in Paris two years ago, and there was a buzz around it no doubt, but as it got under way you could sense the restless boredom of the audience and people were leaving left right and centre. I wish him better luck with Joan of Arc although there is a lot to live up to there what with Falconetti and all.

    The one to watch

    by brendan3

I, like just about everyone who visits this site, am a film buff and this is the one I'm looking forward to this year to stand out above the rest. I have faith in Luc Besson and he's been given the freedom to do it without interference. I expect nothing less than greatness. To those complaining about the trailer, try to remember that it's a "teaser" trailer plus it's Joan of Arc. Didn't you go to school? Do you need to know what it's about or do you just like everything shown to you before you see it? And to those complaining that there was just a TV movie: the TV movie was the knock off. It was green lighted after Luc Besson went into production and was meant to cash in on the hype of Besson's film which was thought to come out earlier. Think of all the TV movie knock offs in the last few years that were deliberately timed to cash in on their Hollywood counterparts. Plus dueling projects is nothing new : Armageddon/Deep Impact, Dante's Peak/Volcano, Outbreak/Crisis in the Hot Zone, etc. with more, no doubt, to come.

    Trailer wuz good

    by sargon

This just said, Hey, theres a new movie coming out about Joan of Arc..and it did it very prettily.

Personally I thought Fith Element was one of the best movies of its genre in a long time, despite the somewhat weak ending (for my taste that is - my life loved it)It's one of the few movies I can watch over and over end to end, totall enjoyment all the way through.

    Call me ignorant but.....

...what exactly makes and indie studio indie? Lack of funds? Lack of distribution? How big can an indie studio be before its no longer considered indie? I really am curious.

I liked 5th Element better in the theater ... when I was watching the trailer for it. Now that was a kick ass teaser trailer. Watching the "5" slowly move into frame with that music, then disappear, leaving "It must be found" as the ending. Got you off your ass wanting to know what the fuck it was going to be. Bad ass. This trailer for Joan of Arc? feh! It was ok.

    Terrible Trailer

    by mr. stevens

This trailer is terrible. I mean I was hoping to see some costumes or sets or even a battle scene, but there was nothing. I know its just a teaser, but they still could have given us a look at the movie. The title is awful to.

    Leon

This is slightly off the subject, but I just wanted to say that anyone who has only seen the Professional, and not Leon: Version Integrale has not seen this movie!! I strongly urge all of you to seek it out. Most of the mailorder places (Revok, Vsom, etc.) carry it.

    Villain and Hero never meet?

    by xyling

Reply to the previous post aside, that trailer got me excited, but I wanted to see some of the big action sequences in there. I guess its just a teaser.

In regards to a hero and villain not meeting in 5th element- what about Luke and Vader in Star Wars 4?

    Besson makes another great trailer

    by bigjackiev

I'm not sure if Besson himself makes the trailers (considering how secretive and controlling he is, I assume so) but his movies always have good trailers. Someone mentioned the 5th element teaser...what about the other 5th element trailers? Just music and visuals like this one. Of course, the movie was completely different than advertised...I still like it.

    Geeeezz...

    by free flying soul

Can we be sure that trailer was for a Joan of Arc movie? I thought it was for a prescription allergy medicine or douche. I think this trailer is trying to be profound and "artistic". But, come on, running thru sunflowers and then chopping the top off one? This, for a Joan of Arc story (I'm sorry, THE MESSENGER(?))?. Anybody like the double parenthesis? Anyway, I thought that chick was going to prance from that field of flowers onto a yellow brick road headed for Emerald City. The fabric blowing in the wind was interesting visually though, the first time.

    Joan of Arc and Milla

    by taxman

This is one film that has me completely mystified as to how it will turn out. Is there any word yet on what approach Besson is going to take with it? Is it going to be rousing action adventure a la Braveheart or more of a surreal journey (that this trailor implies). I sort of hope the second, even if it is more risky. I don't really like the trailor though, I think the music is the problem. It sounds like a cheap computer game. And another question, is Milla Jovovich up to this role? I thought she was great as Leeloo, but this is another thing entirely. I hope she didn't just get cast because of her involvement with the director. Fingers-crossed though, this is one film I'm really hoping will be good. ---- p.s. Yeah that title does suck doesn't it. Who's bright idea was that one?
