ScoreKeeper & Lakeshore Records Introduce You To A New Video Interview Feature!! Today - APPALOOSA Composer Jeff Beal!!

Published at:  Apr 06, 2009 2:28:55 PM CDT

Greetings! ScoreKeeper here attempting to satiate the aural appetites of film music lovers the world over with the launch of a brand new composer interview video series courtesy of Lakeshore Records (website HERE).

Starting…now, Ain’t It Cool News will serve as the exclusive new home for Lakeshore’s continuing video interview series promoting many of their latest soundtrack releases.

Let’s face it. Special features on DVDs are super-cool but there aren’t as many focusing on the music behind the film as there should be. These five to eight minute video interviews will offer you an interior stare into various film scores with insights by the artists who authored them.

To inaugurate the new series, I’ve hand picked an interview with Jeff Beal, composer of my second favorite score of last year, APPALOOSA (2008) [details HERE]. If you haven’t already become familiar with this superlative score, now is your chance to let Jeff introduce it to you. He’ll take you through a brief history of the score, the challenges he faced, and the inspiration behind its creation.

Frankly, I can’t get enough of this stuff. The only slightly disappointing thing about this new series is that the interviews are relatively brief. Perhaps there should be a new Film Music Channel (HD of course) where composer interviews such as these run ad nauseam. Until then, we’ll just have to make do with what we got. I’d like to thank Lakeshore Records for the great work and look forward to more interviews in the near future.

The soundtrack for APPALOOSA is available at both Amazon.com [HERE] and iTunes [HERE].

Enjoy this interview with Jeff Beal and be on the lookout for the next video to be posted in the upcoming weeks.

    Star Wars Music...

...is the best thing about those movies. Lucas would be nothing without Williams.

And Ed Harris's track is great too!

    by theycallmemrglass

I have the soundtrack and I love it too. The music complements the very character driven movie. But Ed Harris's song at the end is quite a nugget. He sings it in the character of Virgil Cole and is hilarious. According to the cd sleave he co-wrote the lyrics too. But Jeff Beal of course did a great job. OK, gonna watch the video now, lol.

    Ah, Appaloosa...

Yet another movie made nearly unbearable by Renee Zelwigger's squinty face. Too bad, since it was an otherwise decent flick.

Coll! But the quicktime thing's not working for me?

    by the_genteel_gentile

Hopefully it's not just me. I really liked Appaloosa. Looking forward to hearing Beal's interview, I'm a huge fan of film music. If you get the sountrack to Appaloosa make sure to customize it by tacking on Tom Petty & Mudcrutch's "Scare Easy". Any movie that ends with a Tom Petty song is alright in my book.

Focusing on other personalities involved in movie production than just the director and actors is one of the things that make this a good site, a site for film geeks.

Why on Earth was Tom Petty song missed out? The CD has an alternative end credit which we dont actually hear in the film.

    Lion in Appaloosa

    by theycallmemrglass

About the film, anyone figured out what the hell was a lion doing in one of the shots in the film during the train journey sequence? It was a very deliberate shot, seemed like a director's symbolic signature or something, like John Woo's doves. Or is it some metaphor. Sorry this is somewhat off topic but it has been bloody bugging me. Harris should direct more films though and sing Johnny Cash songs, lol.
