‘You’d Be The Only One Left!!’ Can HEROES Hold It Together Till The End Of The Season??

Published at: March 30, 2009, 3:07 a.m. CST

I am – Hercules!!
“Heroes” hit it out of the park with the Bryan Fuller-scripted “Cold Snap,” but word is Fuller’s influence is more muted for the season’s final five hours (the first of which airs tonight). Rating for the series continue to decline (it hit a series low last week if I remember correctly), but it’s still one of NBC’s two most popular primetime shows (the other being “The Office”), so it’s assured of a fourth season. Tonight’s installment, “Into Asylum,” brings back Sylar, Nathan and the cheerleader (who, I’m guessing, doesn’t get to hang onto that comic-shop job):
Now that Nathan's (Adrian Pasdar) ability has been revealed and he has lost control of his operation, he and Claire (Hayden Panettiere) go into hiding in Mexico. With Emile Danko (guest star Zeljko Ivanek) now in control of the government operation, his plan to destroy everyone with abilities is set into motion as he teams up with an unlikely partner. Meanwhile, Angela (Cristine Rose) and Peter (Milo Ventimiglia) seek refuge in a church and begin to mend their broken relationship. Kevin Alejandro also guest stars. Jack Coleman also stars.
9 p.m. Monday. NBC.

So let me get this straight. The guy does a great job for his episodes back and than they kind of ignore him!

    by Frodo T. Baggins

Why wont they get Fuller full time? Ug...

  • March 30, 2009, 2:31 a.m. CST

Glad they started killing off characters, though

    by ides

Daphne was a strange place to go. Killing off her age-inappropriate boyfriend Matt would have been a better option, given the degree to which the writers have muddled his character. I'll probably stick with it through the beginning of the next season. This "volume" has been a little better than the few that preceded it, though the screwed up character arcs from those earlier iterations are still haunting the series.

  • March 30, 2009, 2:33 a.m. CST

Nothing was hit out of the park.

    by Shermdawg

Supernatural from two weeks ago? Now there was an episode that was hit out of the park. Kring and Co. wishes their show was that good.

    Daphne

    by Titus05

if they wanted to kill off Daphne why didn't they just leave her dead from when she was shot a few episodes back...made no sense to bring her back for another episode just to have her die again

  • March 30, 2009, 2:36 a.m. CST

    They brought her back because...

    by Shermdawg

...her "death" scene was awful. Terrible directing in that episode.

    Schitzoidarama!

    by Nerdgasm

I wish the writers and producers for this show would sit down and figure out who's gonna be good and who's gonna be bad. Every character on the fucking show (except Hiro) has gone from, good to bad to maybe good to maybe bad to kinda bad to sorta good to maybe grey and back again..and again..and again. Figure it out already!!!!!! Maybe in next weeks episode Syler will be selling Girl Scout Cookies, and Peter will go on a bloody rampage at a shopping mall?

  • March 30, 2009, 2:48 a.m. CST

    Never Mind

    by Athanatos

about the who is good or evil plot, I wish they would figure out who has what power. It's pathetic how everyone is losing their powers and then getting them back. Peter went from being a retard with godlike powers to just being a retard. The way they're getting rid of everyones powers reminds me of some RPG's I used to play in my teens, when the Game Master would figure out how powerfull someone had gotten, out came the nerf stick. Whoever is writting this really has no idea how powerfull some of these people are, it's like writting in Superman and all he does is look through womens clothes, fun but a waste of potential.....end of rant

  • March 30, 2009, 2:50 a.m. CST

    People still watch this?

    by Bones

Seriously. I stopped after the first two episodes this season and haven't looked back.<p> The first season was good, up until they let Sylar live in the finale. They should have killed his character off and found a new bad guy. The second season was horrible, and the best thing to happen was the writers strike forcing them to end the season early. Unfortunately, they didn't learn any lessons and the beginning of the third season was rediculous and insulting...so my wife and I quit the show.<p> The funny thing is we don't miss it at all. We watch Chuck, then Anthony Bourdain and then Castle. What a great Monday night!

    Last week saw

    by Miyamoto_Musashi

A cool use of their powers, but frankly its a muddled mess. <p> They got that Peter and Hiro were too powerful and have reduced their powers, but too late really. <p> With all the comic book writers on staff or connected to the show, am still suprised that they allowed it to become such a mess, and didn't learn from what works and doesnt work in their medium.<p> HRG, the non-powered guy still the most intersting character.

I still give it a go, but my wife who loved the first season, couldn't care less about it now. A few people from work are the same. <p> I havent see a show where so many people I know loved it so much, to caring about it so little in a relatively quick time. <p>

    Myamoto-san...

    by Bones

My wife was the same way--never was into comics or superheroes (If Jackman hadn't been Wolverine she might not have come back for the X-Men sequels)...but she LOVED Heroes the first season--and I did too. It was water-cooler TV at it's best--and the season was all about taking the different threads of the characters and bringing them together, so by the end of the first season, the "Legion of Heroes" was all together the way they should have been...and then they fumble the ball in the finale.<p> Instead of keeping them together and having them formualate some kind of plan to help and change the world...they split them all up again and have all the characters act contrary to how they were written in the first season, change their powers and bring in characters that are not as interesting as the originals...it seemed like all of the choices of the second season were bad.<p> Then, with the third season, they just completely drop the story of Peter's Irish girlfriend who is lost in an alternate universe...did they ever do any episode where Peter even aknowledged her existence? The showrunners need to have a plan--and NOT a fuzzy, general idea--they need to know where the show is going and work backwards from there, every season.<p> You are completely right--I haven't seen this many people jump ship on a show...well, since Bionic Woman (guess that wasn't THAT long ago--but it feels like forever...)

    "A Duffy Moment"

    by Steve Young

Killing off heroes and then toning down / focusing their powers is a great idea. Maybe that's where the show is headed? CUT TO: Patrick Duffy in shower, with a rich lather. "It's about time you got up, sleepyhead! What, you said there are dozens of imbalanced heroes will ill-defined superpowers and dropped plot lines? What are you talking about? It's the end of the first season! We're about to save the world!" Patrick Duffy's power = saving near-dead television shows.

Yeah, I'd put Lost up there too on the 'lots of people no longer care' boat. Remember the days when eps got 16 million for an audience? I barely do. <p> Not that Lost is bad, it just lost the mainstream years ago.

  • March 30, 2009, 3:45 a.m. CST

    Actually, that is kinda sad

    by Mr. Zeddemore

I remember the days when there'd be ten pages (at least) of discussion on The Fuselage about a Lost ep. Back when it started and everyone was enthusiastic, instead of jaded as fuck. <p> I miss the first year of Lost and Heroes for audience enthusiasm, after that point a lot of people became cynical as fuck.

  • March 30, 2009, 3:54 a.m. CST

Don't be sad about waning enthusiam, Mr. Zeddemore

    Miyamoto_Musashi and others

    by bacci40

first, the comic book writers on the show (save for loeb) never wrote an original character or book...they all worked on established characters...and if you have been following dc and marvel for awhile, you will notice that storylines, arcs and characters frequently become a total mess and thats why they have these huge events every so often to fix all the messed up plot lines and to kill off characters and books<p> it works in comics...it doesnt work on tv (which is why the eclipse episodes were absolutely craptastic)<p> and i wish people would stop complaining about the past shit...fuller was brought back to repair much of what was done...so lets see how things go from epi 21 and on<P> i dont like the herc buzz that fuller's input into the remaining shows is muted...that is a huge mistake<p> yes, terrible errors were made starting at the final of season 1 and throughout season 2...loeb continued the fuckup through the beginning of season 3...but fuller did write a very good epi and things are looking up<p> as for you supernatural fans...nobody fucking cares...or havent you noticed...nobody watches the cw...soon it will be time to change the letters for the network again...i suggest the pu

how about not worrying about the actors so much...

    by MurderMostFowl

And give them something to *DO* <BR> The only thing I have ever hated about Heros is that none of the writers has ever ask themselves... "hmmm.. what would I do if I had these powers?"<BR><BR> I really liked the last 2 weeks, and there's hope for something else down the road, but too many decisions were made to make sure the cast got to return, without thinking of the plot implications.<BR><BR> And one thing that annoys the shit out of me..The writers seem to forget that when they pressed the reset button this time they basically said much of 1st and 2nd season didn't happen, ( because Nathan never went public about the powers ) and yet they make often references to things that happened in that timeline.<BR> Having Hiro constantly have an unrelated 2nd story is also hurting them. It just felt contrived after the 2nd season, and yet they could have made it great.<BR><BR> Peter and Nathan's dad was the absolute worst part of the show, and I called it that way when I first saw him. <BR><BR> I was sad to see speeder girl go, but it was indeed a much better death than her getting shot. I actually enjoyed her Paris sequence alot because the writing knew that the audience wouldn't buy the paris in the moonlight stchick and used that against us. Brilliantly done. If only heros had more moments like that.

Chuck kills this show every week in quality

    by Razorback

But Heroes beats it in ratings and demo. So, I guess it is a fair trade-off, for now. Though, Chuck is actually far more geeky and action packed than Heroes. Funny how this site still ignores that show over this one.

Why does everyone says HRG has no powers?

    by IndyAbbey Jones

remember when he was shot in the eye and got the blood transfusion from claire<P>he healed then and he still has that ability,<P> the writers have purposley avoided it so that everyone has forgot about it and it can be big shocker at the end of this season when HRG is discovered by ze Canadian (forget the characters name, so i'll just call him that)

  • March 30, 2009, 7:12 a.m. CST

No toning down powers, write overpowered reactions.

    by EvilWizardGlick

Anyone recall when sand shaped Superman and Superman got into a fight that destroyed the world? Well it was all mental with Wonder Woman's ( powerless at that time) sensei teaching a lesson. A lesson that depowered Superman somewhat. <p> So Peter and Hiro are super duper untlimate Heroe's who fear to tread in the real world. Who fear the damage they inflict. Then only appear when needed. Like Invisible man or maybe Dr. Manhattan. <p> Sure you can have regular cast interaction with them. Hiro freezes time for tea with Parkman. Peter in hermit mode chats with Nathan or Mom. So on. <p> I'm sick of this single power remake.

  • March 30, 2009, 7:36 a.m. CST

why bring back Daphne just to kill her off, you ask?

    by newc0253

because they needed Fuller to show them HOW IT'S DONE, frakkers.<p> seriously, there was more emotional resonance in the scene in last week's episode when Hiro describes meeting his dead mom THAN IN THE ACTUAL EPISODE WHERE HE MET HIS DEAD MOM.<p> honestly, watching Fuller's episode last week was like watching an episode from an alternate reality in which Heroes is actually a much better show. It'll be a shame if it can't sustain that for the remaining 5 eps, but at least there's real hope for season 4.

    by chrth

When will you understand that? Talkback is where it's at. Why the Fuck anyone would come to AICN for a forum when there are ten million better sites on the Internet to go to for boring shit like that is beyond me.

  • Says something when its one of 2 NBC drams with the highest ratings and yet its at an all time low. I accumulated all 3.0 eps on the DVR. Watched in one huge chunk in Jan. What a mess. Everything said about the show here as negative was completely justified. Some bright highlights and a few notes in tune, but mostly just a Shakespeare play full of sound and fury signifying nothing. 3.5 eps 1-5 were no better. heroes and plot points that turned on a dime back and forth and back and forth endlessly. absolutely no forward momentum at all. what an utter waste of material and characters. And to add insult to injury, they got William Katt, (The Greatest American hero) as a nosy reporter who should have gotten powers and been a villain or something to be in 2 scenes and get frozen and shatter instantly....yet show that same scene in the recaps every week. I hope he got some $$$ for that. Castle is leagues above this, and its harmless modern day MOONLIGHTING style mystery\flirt show with Captain tight pants. Heroes?!? "Thecomedian"...Is this show still on?!?!

"fuller abanded the show because he wanted to do something he though was better"<br></br> Actually, PUSHING DAISIES was better than any non-Fueller associated HEROES episode of the last two years. He came on the first year of the show fulling telling Kring that he might have to leave if this project he had in the works (DAISIES) would get the go-ahead. Kring was fine with it. The STAR TREK talk is just that- "Gee wouldn't it be fun and I'd love to do..." talk. Really don't see much merit in your agruements as to why Fueller is a douchebag.

Claire & D'ohinder should've been killed off instead of Daphne

    by SpyGuy

Yeah, the Parkman/Daphne would-be romance was a bit on the creepy side, but at least Daphne was a character with potential, as opposed to Claire and D'ohinder. Chuck is 1000% times better. I gave up on Heroes in S2. Chuck is one of the better non-serious shows on TV and this site virtually ignores it. Chuck reminds me so much of the great 80's films that we still defend from unnecessary remakes, like Ferris Bueller or Can't Buy Me Love. Those films are in no way perfect and have tons of cheese, but they are just so damn loveable. That's how Chuck is and I don't see why more geeks don't love it!

    by turketron

It's been a long time since I could say that about Heroes. For a few weeks there, it was a chore to sit through the episodes but last week was good. It's disheartening to know that the guy responsible for the improvement is less involved for the final five. <p> Supernatural still deserves some love on this site. One of the best genre shows on right now but it goes unnoticed because it's on the cw. <p> The description of tonight's Heroes doesn't sound very good. Last week I didn't miss Claire at all... The scenes from the episode where she gets the comic book shop job were appalling...

CHUCK has about the same amount of geek cred as REAPER, better writing, and better jokes... oh, and much better action (not taking anything away from REAPER, I dig it, but come on). And yet there is ZERO coverage of CHUCK. Not almost zero... ZERO.

How about "Frigid Bitch" ? Is that a better name? And br1947, killing everyone but Sylar is great. Keep the villain each year and have every season be about new people finding their useless powers, teaming up after not getting along at first, and then dying to Sylar, who gets even more powers until finally he just kills everyone and lives by himself holding his dead birth mom's body. Hmm.. I'd actually watch that.

The guy asked, "Who likes 'Heroes'?" Nobody said anything, so I yelled, "I used to like it!!" He looked at me and gave me a "I know what you mean" half smile.<p>Maybe I'll get back into the show later, if it continues to improve... but the first few episodes of this season turned me off to it. Even if I came back now, would I even know what the hell was going on in the show?<p>I'm glad some of you are still enjoying it, but I've pretty much moved on. Hopefully it gets some mojo back.

    Supernatural vs Heroes

    by Cinemanimetal

I thought last weeks Heroes was lame actually. The last 3 episodes have all been cringe-worthy. In fact this volume is pissing me off more than any other so far and I think it had the most potential. As for Supernatural I agree that it has been great recently however I think saying there hasn't been a single bad episode this season is going too far. There was at least that one episode where they save some family from some dead girl or something that I found pretty bad. It had nothing to do with the main storyline and it offered nothing interesting as a stand alone episode.

in season one it breaks down like this. The pilot was excellent then it sort of meanders a bit until finds it voice in the second half of season one. From there it takes off and never looks back. It grows tremendously from season to season.

    No More Love For Heroes

    by Maxwell Bishop

What is most frustrating is the first season was such awesome television. I really didn't even mind season 2. It had its flaws, but I loved the show so I forgave. Then came season three where characterization was thrown out the window. The show has been tainted for me. I still watch hoping it will rekindle the awesomeness, but nothing so far. And for god sakes Sylar has been done to death. His character was always annoying, but at least I knew he was going to die the end of season 1. WELL! He should of died the end of season 1.

HEROES needs a Crisis on Infinite Earths or Secret Wars

    by Orbots Commander

The only way to save this show and coax lost viewers back, is to re-set the rules of the show universe. The way to do this is to follow the template that comics companies have done it in the past: a mini-series event where you winnow down or refine characters and re-set the rules.

  • March 30, 2009, 1:22 p.m. CST

    Yep

    by Splatomat

That's the paradox: Sylar-fangirls are probably the only demographic keeping 'Heroes' alive. Unfortunately that character is the worst aspect of the show. I stopped watching seriously a long time ago, but I check up on it every once in a while. Most of the time I see that Sylar is still alive (after surviving what, his fourth, fifth, sixth death?) and turn it off again. He was, sadly, the most interesting when he was a shrouded mystery villain from Season 1. Bringing him back in Season 2 was the worst mistake the writers could have made (and they've made some doozies), and they just keep making it over and over and over...

  • March 30, 2009, 1:23 p.m. CST

Or just forget HEROES and develop WILDCARDS

    by Orbots Commander

Another network should do the 'super hero universe' concept, but better. Adapt the George R.R. Martin WILDCARDS books. The writers have done the heavy lifting of universe building. All that is needed is a good adaptation of the various stories. I'd love to see the The Great and Powerful Turtle on the small screen as a series character.

    by Craftybear

and I really don't think it's as bad as everyone here seems to think. I admit it went off the rails (mostly due to the writer's strike) but Fuller is well on his way to fixing the damage of Season 2 and the first half of Season 3. Killing Daphne and Tracy Strauss off was a great start. Now if they could get Hiro to start acting like a badass instead of comedy relief and give us a Sylar/Claire showdown, I'd be in geek heaven.

MrSentinel seems fixated on the "I Dont watch" posts

    by wcme

MrSentinel, it is true that someone can post about not watching this show (or Dollhouse). Weekly. and mean it. I do. We can comment on the hyperbolic text that herc will put in the header (Tape 24 and Watch Heroes!!!!!!!!!) and comment on it, and laugh amongst the overwhelming majority here that have stopped watching. and post. Weekly. Which we do. Every week. It has less to do with "Tipping our hands" then actual bemusement that a show dropping like a stone in the deep end is NBC's 2nd highest rated show! And we'll be back here next week to do the same. And Sylar wont change. And The plot wont move fwd. And some characters will pretend to reach a crossroads and yet redo the same backtrack they have done endlessly. We can read the posts of those dwindling few who do watch it and not spend an hour on this, but watch 24 instead. We can understand what hasn't yet changed. This isn't rocket science.

    by wixmmm

first, heroes - I have accumulated the last four episodes and will watch them and the new ones when the season is over... crossing my fingers but really i don't think it'll improve.<br><br> I am SHOCKED that 'Castle' has not gotten a mention on this site... i mean its FILLION! Normally anything whedon gets a talkback. Thing is, Castle is GREAT, in my opinion. Fillion is fantastic in the role. I know alot of you want fillion for green lantern or other projects, but I really think he's found that defining role that we all knew he was capable of... can't say i saw him as a movie star, but i've always thought he's a fantastic actor, and he's great in Castle. I normally ignore crime solving tv shows, but this season has been suprising when it comes to cop shows--I can count on Life and Mentalist to be solid hours of entertainment week in week out, and now I think Castle will also be a great show, week in week out.

And yet these posters have somehow tricked themselves into believing the writers actually love and remember them.<p><p> These posters want to leave, but they just can't quit Heroes.<p><p>The rest of us, on the other hand, recognize that it is just a friggin' TV show and enjoy it on its merits, or simply tune it out.

    Supernatural

    by wixmmm

I agree with the many, many talkbackers who want a supernatural talkback. This past week was good (as it is most weeks) but two weeks ago, with the Dean torture plot... jesus... that episode kicked all kinds of ass... to those who haven't checked it out, you NEED to get through the first season and a half--after that point it gets rediculous... I NEVER would have thought a show about ghost hunters could possibly be as fantastic as supernatural is every week. It reminds me alot of veronica mars-- what? a CW show? must be garbage. what? a high school girl solving crimes? must be garbage. Supernatural is EXACTLY the same as that... veroica mars was great...so great... but supernatural is right up there. I'm sure there were tons of fans reluctant to give Veronica Mars a shot, and we all know how that show turned out. The one thing Veronica Mars had over supernatural is it hit the ground running with season one. Supernatural took time to slowly develop into the exceptional show it is today.

    by turketron

I didn't watch it until the first season was done. Torrented and blew through the episodes and as many will tell you, there are a lot of clunker one-off episodes in the first half of the first season, but when you get to the actual mythology episodes it becomes excellent. Each season is an improvement over the previous one. I remember someone posted what episodes to watch from season one in one talkback...<p><p> Whatever. Watch them all. And then watch season 2, 3, and jump into the 4th which is coming up on its final episodes of the season. The show ends at season 5 which was the plan from the beginning.

    heroes hate

    by wixmmm

I'm going to catch up at some point with heroes, but the reason I went from somebody who would defend the show all day every day, and was furious at people calling for it to be cancelled. But i'm sorry, there came a point where I was just insulted by what they were giving the viewer. most of the blame goes with kring <br><br>1) They would rather portray comic book fans as the stereotypical nerds and geeks, instead of REFERENCING an endless resource of comic books with exceptional plots.<br><br> 2) The end of 'Villains'--In the beginning of the episode, Nathan is all for giving superpowers to soldiers without really checking out who recieved the powers--then, by THE END OF THE SAME EPISODE, Nathan is in a limo telling a government guy they need to hunt down and capture heroes--not rouge military heroes abusing their power, mind you, no--capturing THE SAME HEROES (A FEW HE WAS RELATED TO) WHO HE SAVED THE WORLD WITH ON MULTIPLE OCCASSIONS! Are you kidding me? <br><br> 3) Then (this was my breaking point) Nathan attempts to ambush peter and claire by meeting them with a sniper ready, and then in the first minute of the NEXT EPISODE, peter and mohinder are hiding behind a car and peter says "we need to find out who is kidnapping people with powers." PETER SAW, FIRST HAND, THAT NATHAN WAS BEHIND IT IN THE PREVIOUS EPISODE. After that minute, i turned it off and heroes was dead to me. <br><br>This wasn't the case of just being a 'bad show', no, this was worse--this was insulting to the viewer.<br><br>I can't believe it, and i take no pride in it, and i've hated people who've spoken like this before, but I was forced to turn into a talkbacker who calls for a show to be cancelled. Never would have thought I'd be that kind of talkbacker, especially because I used to look foward to monday night heroes so damn much. But I want it cancelled because the sooner its gone, the sooner the audience will slowly get the bad taste of heroes out of their mouths and the sooner someone like Peter Berg could take on a super hero show and blow our minds and fuck our eyeballs.

uhhh, you can believe i look like some geeky comic book nerd if you want... or you can believe the truth, which is that i'm considered a frat guy (phi kappa psi at USC), who has had five one night stands with five different sorority girls in a six day period. or in highschool (in mexico) i was bringing girls up to the VIP tables in the best clubs in the country, had three fuck buddies in my regular rotation at one point, slept with a girl i met in on a road trip in washington then when i was in california a week later she called asking if she could fly out to california to meet me there so she could drive back to wisconsin to stay with me for two weeks, and there have been more conquests i'm not going to bother talking about because you probably won't believe me, so, again, you can think i'm a geeky comic book freak all you want, because I know those girls sure as hell didn't think of me that way... nor do any of my fraternity brothers. Only two friends of mine know i have and love a big comic collection. The reason I hate the stigma that comes along with comic fans is BECAUSE too many geeky/nerdy/ugly losers ruin it for the rest of us by dressing up in elaborate costumes to go to a totally lame convention to do god knows what.

and its not so much about depiction of college fans

    by wixmmm

its not so much about heroes depiction of comic fans--it would have been fine, and it was fine by making Hiro a comic geek--i was all for that... but its the fact that Kring would rather create nerdy comic characters for his show, while refusing to go look to comics for material for a show about superheroes. He at one point (early) came out and said he's never read a comic book... and after his origin story was over, he didn't know what to do because of the fact he ignored the unlimited supply of inspiration he could have found in comics... that's what i hate, not the depiction of comic book fans ALONE... its a combination of not respecting the fans and not respecting the medium of comics in genreal... maybe that makes my point clearer.

Allow me to address your points.<p>#1. Decent point overall. However, even if Mr. Kring couldn't give a damn about comics, the other writers on the show aren't the same way. There's no way on Earth Heroes Season 1 was THAT similar to Watchmen by accident.<p>#2. Though Vol. 3 was notorious for just what you're getting at, I MIGHT be able to defend it. Nathan, from day 1, has been terrified of powers. His first experience of his own power left his wife crippled. His first experience of Peter's power was when the latter nearly killed himself trying to fly. The only reason Nathan bought into the super-soldier program was because "the right people" would get the powers. Once that program was gone, Nathan was back to his default position of "powers = bad". So I can accept that rapid change of character.<p>#3. I don't remember that, so I'll trust you're right on the issue.<p>Please note that if you respond, I won't be back on this talkback until tomorrow morning.

    supernatural way better than heroes

    by muri71

"heroes" first season was really great, loved it but season 2 was a disaster! like some people in here have written, after season 1 they should have keep the "heroes" together for a somehow strange kind of "justice league" etc with normal life problems! but season 2 & 3 all the way were lame, bad writing and this has powers, lose powers, has powers lose powers thing, was really not a good idea! another thing that sucked was from good 2 bad, from bad 2 good and then bad again, good again...man this was shit! some characters like "claire", "sylar", "mohinder" and every role ali larter played should have been killed off in season 2! third season of heroes is fukked up all the way again! ABOUT SUPERNATURAL ONE OF THE FEW SHOWS WHO DOES GET BETTER AND BETTER WITH EVERY SEASON compared 2 "heroes" doesnt work. cus how can u compare good writing 2 bad writing? supernatural has it all!!! great jokes, cool music, a great main story ( per season, beside the monster of the week stuff)SUPER CHICKS (i dont know where the hell they always get the beautiful ladies in nearly every episode?)great drama if needed and always can acted well from both of the main characters but of course the most by JENSEN ACKLES who can play everything. the dude, a bully, the carrying brother, a bad ass, the guy who deals with his own demons and the jerk who loves metal, his car and the ladies!:) if there are fanboys without loving the pop culture stuff from "dean winchester" (jensen ackles) i guess they didnt get "sawyer" in "lost" neither?! the dramatic episodes are dramatic and the funny shows are really funny. from season 1 til 4 it was getting better and better all the way. like every show has some lame episodes but supernatural season 4 had only 2 not so good episodes so far! yeah and the tribute 2 "universal monsters" show was great but also jensen ackles doing his lip sync "eye of the tiger" after the credits was just beyond of great! u must love the winchesters!!! all the dramatic stuff and every episode were the angels show up in season 4, rule! EVERYONE WHO STOPPED WATCHING SUPERNATURAL AFTER SEASON 1 TRY AGAIN ITS WORTH IT!EVERYONE WHO LOVED "ANGEL" AND "BUFFY" MUST LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!!!

Laugh at me all you want... i wrote that well aware that there was no chance you'd believe me... although thanks for not responding to my real point--which was that they made the comic fans stereotypical and didn't look to comics. If even just a few of those writers were real comic fans, they would have spoken up and not used the oldest device in comic history--superheroes losing their powers. Comic writers only use that device every now and then, because they have the imaginations to explore the realms of possibility with a given superhero. I mean, for gods sake, they find ways to keep a character like The flash going... if they can sustain a superhero like the flash, there's no excuse the writers of heroes can't sustain a plot with a plethora of different characters and powers at their disposal. And, to give you an idea of how much i'm not lying about my hook up history-- i forgot to mention I had three girls in one night...nobody in my frat had pulled the trifecta--they said that would have been my nickname had I not already been known by pretty much everyone as 'mexico' because that's where i went to highschool...the fact that i forgot to mention the trifecta should give you an idea of my history as that's not something that slips the average person's mind when talking about hook up history. and look it up--a suburb of Monterrey called San Pedro Garza Garcia--a spitting image of bel air... last i heard, its the most affluent city in mexico, and don't tell me 'well, by mexico's standards' becasue anybody who knows anything about borderline third world countries is the poor are very poor and the rich are very rich... i'm not saying i'm very rich (not on the level of some of my classmates) but we're well off enough to not need financial aid for USC's 40,000 a year tuition. I hate to sound like this, but the truth is in the details. laugh at me all day. you wish you've done the things i've done. I would have not said any of this had you actually responded to my real, heroes-related point. But i'm not gonna let some talkbacking douchebag try to tell me i'm a loser comic book fan. The difference between you and me is i'm a douchebag, without a doubt, by stating all these things about my past. i'm a douchebag because i'm bragging about my experiences on a fucking geek site like aintitcool with (some) idiot talkbackers... but you're a douchebag because you just seem to want to be one... you baited me into all this talk... all this stuff never would have need to have been said had you actually responded to my topic-related points instead of doing what the biggest douchebags on this site do--which is to ignore arguments and go straight to the personal attacks and insults. Respond to this, and laugh at me, but even if i don't come back to this talkback, you will NOT have had the last laugh. i have a damn good life, laugh at it all you want, but you're just one of many laughable talkbackers who gets his jollies off ripping other talkbackers with unfounded personal insults, all the while ignoring the real points a talkbacker is making. There you go, laugh away...keep convincing yourself that i'm lying and that your life is better than mine. I don't need a website to compensate for whatever it is i'm lacking... that means i stick to arguing about topic-related things instead of trying to belittle other talkbackers because it makes me feel better about myself. I'm disappointed in myself that I let you bait me, and wish i had just ignored you from the start, but i've written this much, so i might as well post it... but all i was trying to do by telling you my stories was to use myself and what i've done as en example that a) i am not the kind of comic geek you accused me of being and b) lots of comic book fans aren't who you accuse them of being and aren't who kring believes them to be. NOW i'm done... laugh away... both of us are two different kinds of douchebags, and (speaking for myself) I have no problem with that.

...which has been multiple times over the last few years, I can never seem to find this mysterious Supernatural thread. And as much as like the community over there, it's not the same as the talkbacks. And part of the reason we want a weekly Supernatural talkback is to give some exposure to this often overlooked gem. It's the BEST geek related show this side of LOST currently on the air, and deserves a spotlight on AICN, especially with it's final year coming up. Hell, if Herc doesn't want his name attached to it, I'll gladly write up a piece every week, and send it his way, since most of the time he just serves as a TV Guide synopsis anyways.

    the zone

    by wixmmm

the zone sucks. its incredible how this site has been going for so long, with so much traffic, yet it is stuck in the 90's. Talkbacks with no edit function? or even worse--talkbacks that don't do line breaks? then there's the useless 'zone' where there is only one fucking thread for each show, so you gotta go like a thousand posts through a thread to get to the discussion, and then once you find that spot, the threads are DEAD. I'd be willing to bet that no more than 10 percent of talkbackers use the zone. If there were entire boards for each show, there might be more topics, and even better, there might me topics for the smaller things to discuss. All of these things could very easily be fixed by a moderately talented programmer straight out of college. I never can understand these things aren't implimented...it makes no sense... don't ban me.

    Good episode... possible Quinto exit?

    by Doc Savant

What with the newly added shape-shifting ability and all. Didn't he gain that ability or at least something akin to it when he killed the Company agent with the ability to alter perceived reality? Then again, if memory serves, he'd lost his powers back then, so I could be wrong. Anyhow, the last line served to show Sylar's still the man with the evil plan. As for good episodes, Chuck tonight went FTW - hardway - and damned if it didn't succeed! Laughs, pathos, a big reveal, Casey developing a crush, the great loopy NO2 bit; simply one of the best Chucks evah. It's ri-god-danged-diculous that show doesn't have more viewers.

Long Time Reader First Time Writer

    by DookieMercury

I like this show, in all its flaws it keeps me compelled. That said, I think the goal for the end of this season is tie up loose ends created by the old writing staff. For instance, Sylar in alternate future does have shapeshifting abilities. In the Nathan's family case, remember that Mama Petrelli in season 2 told her to leave him and take the kids when he was burned, he also has Adam's powers. Just as HRG has Clair's. A real clusterfuck yes but if all these can be cleared up then for the better. If not oh, well you name something other than 24, which I don't like, in that time slot that gains your attention.

    by wixmmm

ignore ALL the other reasons i said this page is stuck in the 90's because i mentioned how it doesn't do line breaks automatically--thats ONE part of what i talked about, yes, the one that's very easy to fix, but as easy as it is to use html, its even easier for a programmer to just let the damn line breaks be automatic. people love to just pick and choose which parts of someones posts to lash out against instead of actually responding to an entire argument. No auto line breaks just doesn't make sense, because this is such a damn popular website for discussion. People spelling wrong or making syntactical mistakes IS understandable and DOES make sense--because we just type and go... nobody's trying to write a damn essay for school credit here, so we don't read and revise our posts... of course, if there was a simple edit function, then people could fix their own mistakes instead of having to hear about them from somebody looking to discredit what they actually were trying to say in a post... and an edit function is also damn easy for some programmer who hasn't even graduated yet.

The problem is the characters react to things done to them but never act; have superpowers but get easily bullied by a pale government mook with a Napoleon Complex and the constant whining about "trying to save the world," blah, blah, blah. by veritasses

for next season. Everyone from the writers, actors, production design, lighting, wardrobe, hair/makeup, etc need to be considered for the chopping block. Though to be fair, it's hard to tell if the cheap quality is because of the poor work of the crew or if it's because of the tone and "vision" Kring and Co. set for the staff and series. Awful

    by ooggbboo

I registered an account just to post that subject line. Anyone who praised tonight's episode, especially on the heels of last week's, must be a close relative of the writer. What awful dialogue and characterization. Angela Patrelli goes from snarky matron to penitent pseudo-nun; the Hunter goes from someone with an excessive hatred of specials to someone willing to make a deal with Sylar (!) that involves making him the most powerful person on the planet (!!). I believe Sun Tzu would have had choice words about that. This week's episode made me regret deciding to bump 24 to Tivo.

Sylar killed Candace (illusion girl who really was fat) early in Season 2, after his first "death". He was powerless at the time, but didn't know it, so he got nothing for his brain-poking efforts. Then he stumbled into The Wonder Twins and their groovy partner-in-crime, the Nissan Rogue.<p> I think a lot of the mess that was Season 2 could have been avoided if they'd accidentally run Sylar over (IRONY), then lost control of the car and flown off a nearby cliff, exploding in mid-air.

At least in the future... dude is going to become a big movie star with these Star Trek movies. So why would he continue on a ratings losing tv show? <br> <br> More likely he will get less and less screentime as he uses his new Mystyque power more and more. <br> Eventually something is going to happen to have him lose his shapeshifting ability... but have him stay with whatever shape he had. <br> That means.... new actor playing Sylar. <br> My vote... Adrian Pasdar, after Sylar kills Nathan and assumes his identity to get close to Claire.

    Show needs better bad guys

    by Spifftacular Squirrel Girl

There's Sylar and everybody else just sort of pales next to him. <p> Remember in the first season when they were hinting at someone worse than Sylar? Ended up being Parkman's father and yeah... kind of a let down. Then you had Adam who just wasn't all that threatening. Papa Petrelli who kind of came and went away in a hurry. Now you have this Hunter guy who doesn't really feel like that much of a threat either. <p> If this show can come up with a new big bad that can go toe-to-toe with Sylar or even surpass him then maybe it'd have something else going for it.

not as good as last week (spoilers)

    by drave117

There was some good stuff tonight. The writer and I were definitely on the same page where Claire was concerned. It was pretty funny, actually. My roommate and I love to talk smack at the TV while we watch Heroes. When Claire started drinking, we both said "I guess her liver can't be killed either!" And then, Claire mentioned it a bit later. Then, when she was lecturing Nathan about how pathetic he is, I was agreeing with her, and I said "Yeah, listen to her and man up! You're freaking Superman!" Literally a minute later, Claire said "You were supposed to be Superman!" Hey, it amused me. As for HRG's power, I don't know that it has ever been made clear whether the healing factor from her blood is a permanent gift, or something temporary. Speaking of her healing factor, I think it would be way more hardcore if she had actually been selling kidneys, waiting for them to grow back, and selling them again.

I agree, the line breaks are a little silly (I mean, parse out {cr} to < P >? What's the big deal?), but the lack of an edit feature is definitely by design. <p> Talkbacks are like a conversation, you say it, it's said. You want to correct it? Post a correction. It makes it more organic - otherwise you'd have people referring back to previous posts that would constantly get edited and you'd sort of lose the "flow". <p> I think edits work well in a BB format, but this is sort of unique.

Everything feels like big, definite brush strokes (like....a comic), vs. the convoluted dabbling from the earlier part of the season. I don't know what the eventual plans are for this show (nothing of this season?), but if it keeps up like this, at least it might go out on a semi-positive note!

    Danko's backstory

    by art123guy

I believe we will find out that Danko had come into contact with Ted Sprague, (radiation man from Season 1) and is dying of radiation poisoning. This will explain his hatred for anyone with powers and why he looks, to me anyway, pale and sickly.

and it has brought great joy to my life. I agree that Season 3 was much less emotional of a ride, but it was still great! Some people explained why they don't like it by describing only fragments of scenes or dialogue they saw. It bums me out to hear so much bashing of one of my favorite shows! I'm loving it, and glad it is still #1 downloaded show on itunes on Monday nights.

The Flying Petreli Brothers and their Mommy

    by mike1976

Why does Nathan take Claire to Mexico? Why not England or Australia or any other English speaking country where they would fit in better and be as far away from danger as possible? Why does Peter fly Angela to a church in NYC? They barely escaped the elevator so why stay in the same city? Angela was very keen on leaving New York when talking to Swoosie Kurtz last week. At the end when Peter is holding Angela's hand doesn't that mean he took her useless dream power and lost Nathan's flight power?

    by TedKordLives

not as good as 'Cold Snap', but still about as solid as Heroes gets nowadays. Mike76, Peter took Angela to the church because she asked him to. She's still his mother, after all. Nathan took Claire to Mexico because it's close, and he can't fly forever-especially when he's carrying someone. But Claire's new 'do made her look like a 14-year-old. Which is creepy, considering all the people who watch the show just to ogle her (you know there are at least a few). But, some pretty major developments-Sylar faking his death AND gaining shape-shifting ability? That's scary. Oh, and I'm glad the ability is actually painful and takes a few seconds. That's a little closer to what I think it would actually be like. I mean, reconstituting your form, adding or losing mass-that shit's gotta hurt.

    by BrannigansLaw

Selling her kidneys? Don't you think that is quite gruesome for that character? On the drinking scene, don't you see that Nathan would want to "flex his muscle"? After all, she did raise some cash, which would have been a blow to his ego to just accept.<p><p>How is the bald dude gullible? I must have missed that. Can you explain?

But don't you think you're doing the same thing by deriding those who dress up for Comicon? These people are just having fun, no?<p><p>Even so, you shouldn't take the Heroes slight too seriously. mostly good ep

    by BrannigansLaw

I thought the ep was relatively solid. Of course it had the added advantage of not having MoreHinder, the most inconsistently written and confusing character on the show.<p><p> My only real gripe is more of personal preference: I don't care for the shapeshifting power. Although it was useful in last night's ep (throwing HRG off the trail), but it will likely be abused later on (e.g. random character substitution when the writers write themselves into a hole).<p><p> Anyway, the characters were consistent and their motivations were clear... which has been one of the main problems in the past.

    by BrannigansLaw

While I can totally understand some people having problems with Jessikki, but this season's Tracy was a worthwhile character, IMHO. Every other "known" hero that has been on the run is afraid to actually fight even though they could easily overpower the enemy. Tracy was the only one willing to actually kill, which I think is a likely outcome if you're being hunted down the way that they are.<p><p> When she was allowed to escape the first time, she just deliberately froze that goon and shattered him against the wall. Then she turned and looked at everyone, like "so the fuck what?" Stone.Cold.Badass. I think she could have been the Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) of the (hopefully eventual) "League of Heroes"; let's face it... no one else is really smart/gutsy enough to lead.<p><p> I, for one, hope that she is not really dead... as long as they don't have Micah lecturing & convincing her that killing is bad. UGH...

When Jessikki was Nikki, anyway, she was a frakkin' terror, pure evil, tearing limbs from guys, killing without a thought. Personally, I preferred that character.<p>I like that Tracy Strauss was a genuine fighter, but her killer instincts seemed inconsistent with how she was initially portrayed early in the season. When she made her first kill, by accident, she was mortified and guilt-ridden. Her conscience inexplicably vanished throughout the season. Anyway, I hope too that Tracy isn't dead. The show needs more Ali Larter, just better written scenes for her.

    BrannigansLaw... bald dude

    by MurderMostFowl

He seems to be walking right into what Sylar wants. His motivation is completely contrived. He didn't "need" to find the shape shifter any more than any other bad guy. So he killed a couple of agents. Silly reason to buddy up with the most dangerous person around.<BR> Sylar wants to find the shapeshift *much* more than bald dude does, and that bald due would fall for his weak "lets do it together" thing is ridiculous.<BR><BR> Don't get me wrong, I'm a strong supporter of the show, just look back on my previous TBs. I just call em straight though.. when they're good, they're good. When they're bad, they're bad<BR><BR> As for Nathan wanting to be the big man, it's kind of misplaced... I'd rather seem him man up and play a father figure for once. The story wont let him be that, of course, because that would make G-man Dad irrelevant. The characters need to mature, and maybe I'm being harsh on that B-story tonight, but surely there could have been a better way to show that Nathan is having difficulty with his life and not being in control... getting drunk and passing out mumbling about how he's got a plan was phoning it in. <BR> And no, I don't think it's gruesome for Claire to sell her kidney... she's done things just as bad before, purposefully committing suicide in front of people to escape, cutting off limbs, etc. She's quite comfortable with that.

    walrusholder...sexual tension

    by MurderMostFowl

yeah I saw that too... obviously inadvertant, but there were a couple of awkward pauses, and that exceedingly lame drunk thing, where she helps him back to his room<BR> if they wanted to set up a real father-daughter situation, he could still get stone drunk and be a failure, and then she should drag him back to the room, struggling to keep up and be sad and somewhat distraught that he's become such a failure. That speech she gave about him being superman would have gone off alot better if she was in tears and angry at him. The complex emotions of trying to love your biological father when you have to drag his sorry ass home from a mexican bar, would have been a great part of that episode. Too complex for the heros target audience, though, I imagine. Actually the whole thing fits so well, i wonder if it was originally written that way.

A fantastic character that they could have taken 100 different ways and they've never gone back to him. <BR><BR> I'm just hoping they realize that he doesn't have to be dead and that his character could be very cool ( not in the current storyline probably ). One TB many moons ago I said it would be cool if the writers reveal that his black holes were actually spacial or dimensional portals and that he isn't certain whether his family is still alive or not. Before he masters his power, he has no idea where he sent them. That he wrestles with possibly having killed them but does not give up hope that they might be still alive.... clinging to that idea even though the odds against it are very high.<BR><BR> Instead, we will probably get someone who is made of rubber

    devil in the details

    by squeezmunky

the prevailing problem with this show is always in the details. they let stupid crap slip through while trying to spin all these ridiculous plates.<p>i like this show, but danko is the world's worst military leader. he's way gullible, and he lets everyone get in his face and call him on what a douche-nozzle he is -- never actually proving himself capable of the job he so arrogantly waggles around like a surrogate penis. why does sylar have to explain why they're searching the guy's house? he doesn't question his hardened black-ops field agents vomiting at the sight of dead soldiers? how can you possibly justify allowing the most powerful man on the planet a free escape plan (arrogance notwithstanding, he's allegedly intelligent)? he thinks walking up on sylar talking to him with a knife in his hand SCARES a guy that can put him through a wall with his mind? i kept wondering when sylar would mention it. "i could swat you, gnat."<p>characters disappear all the time, with microwave-kid being the most recent. and why would nathan sell his watch for that necklace when claire just won him a metric buttload of cash in the drinking contest? why WOULDN'T she sell her own kidney and get possibly thousands instead of $50? y'know what would've made good television? seeing her get tied up in a dank shack while criminals continually carve out newly grown organs. that way, ol' nate can play hero again, she can thank him, and everybody's friendly again without watching some fratboy sit upright after 22 shots (plus whatever else he had before the contest) while waiting for claire to catch up.<p>bottom line: changes are necessary, but at least they appear more focused than before; here's hoping fuller brings some continuity checkers in with him to keep all these goof-ups out of the final eps.

I for one was seriously disappointed that they killed him off so quickly. It's even sadder that some of the coolest characters get killed off unnecessarily (Isaac, the nuclear man, D.L., and especially Nikki Saunders.)

    1. You have to suspend your disbelief that Sylar could be that quick and quiet. I know it's a stretch. 2. I don't think Sylar was afraid. Most of the time he was smiling at Danko. I do think he pretended a little bit to make Danko think he had something over him when really he could just stop the bullet if it came to that. 3. As for Nathan, yeah that was dumb.

  • April 1, 2009, 1:20 a.m. CST

    MurderMostFowl, I get your point

    by BrannigansLaw

I get your point, but I guess we have to agree to disagree. Stepping back and looking at this from baldy's perspective, he believes that he can take Sylar down any time he wants. Further, he's already been primed by HRG (e.g. working with the enemy to get results); he's doing so on his own terms... or so he thinks. So far it's working in his favor.<p><p> On the selling body parts thing, you have to make a distinction between what is possible and what is likely. Yes, Claire did try to kill herself, and yes she did cut off her toe just to see if it would regenerate. However, what if she did cut herself open and start removing organs? That would not likely have occurred to her at this stage, and would have been out of character. Even so, how would she go about doing this? Where would she have it done, and where would she sell the organs? If she had done it, that would have taken a whole episode to resolve. Otherwise, you'd be here on AICN talking about how unrealistic it was.

    BadMrWonka

Sylar is reeling Danko in. If he made any moves to defend himself, Danko would be more fearful of him. Sylar has to make Danko believe that he has power. As far as the teleportation ability, specifically, I was wondering about that, too.<p><p> On Nathan, I would think that he wants to avoid using his powers to stay on the down-low. At least that's how I read it.

    LoneGun, Jessikki

    by BrannigansLaw

You're right about Nikki in terms of being a hardcore killer. However, the writers pretty much killed that storyline when they gave Jessica full control. Also, Nikki wasn't killing for survival, but Tracy kills for survival and defiance. This is something that the other heroes sorely need. I'm not saying that they should all become killers, just that it makes sense to have at least one "hero" that will do what needs to be done, especially if they ever band together.<p><p> I agree with you on what they were doing with Tracy early on, though. She was as inconsistent as Nathan (at that time). However, as a fugitive, she was a much better character, and much better for the show. Here's hopin'.

    RE: Not-Drunk Claire?

    by jim

It makes sense to me. How long does it take a normal person to get over the effects of alcohol? Claire may get a quick buzz from a shot but her healing powers would negate the effects very quickly, probably before her next shot. Think of how you feel after your first shot - that's probably as much an effect each one had on her; there is no cumulative effect. Every shot to her would be like her first.

My question is really a physiological one...does getting drunk involve killing cells/tissue? because then her regeneration power would keep it from happening...but I'm pretty sure that's not the case...gonna go look it up now because I have no life

    Yeah, I need another hobby

    by sambafreak13

Based on a quick perusal of some highly scientific web articles, looks like the reason alcohol makes you drunk has nothing to do with killing cells (that's just a side effect) so while it would seem that Claire needn't worry about a liver transplant, she should have gotten drunk. It this were the biggest problem on heroes right now they'd be doing just fine

BrannigansLaw, you are right. Only Tracy has demonstrated a will to fight, that unblinking initiative to defend herself, violently if necessary. So many of the other characters seem reluctant to do anything. I would like to see Bennet take more initiative. by Oldnewbie

As I recall from season 2, I think, there was a flash forward to where Nathan Petrelli was President and Claire was with him in the Oval Office all proud of dad and so forth. Then when the doors closed, he morphed into Sylar and began to cut her head open.... so Sylar having shape shifting powers was predicted. As far as Danko being suckered by Sylar... I think the guy is at wits end and will accept even someone like Sylars help. He's doing his own version of "One of them, one of us", and hoping in the end he'll be able to stop Sylar.
