Neither is Rudd. And neither are very funny. Ricky Gervais is funny, both these Fratboy azzhats are just rehashing the exact same character, "the forty-year old man/boy," which is just just pedantic and tired. I'll catch this on cable...when I'm sick.

During filming? John Hamburg seems like an awesome dude, and I loved the movie, but what the fuck is THAT? You're in the middle of filming the movie, and you just head off on vacation for a while? Doesn't this seem a little weird to anyone else?

Fuck, man. Let me direct a movie, then. I'll ask Scorsese to be my first assistant and go to Hawaii while he films the fuckin' thing. They shoot for, what, 45 days or something? Was that too much to handle?
March 23, 2009, 11:35 a.m. CST
The public appetite for immature profanity-laden dick-swinging man-boy movies has apparently been sated. Go figure!
March 23, 2009, 11:58 a.m. CST
it's just not that funny a concept. Guy loses his virginity at 40 ... funny idea! Tubby loser has a one-night stand with a hot career woman and knocks her up ... funny concept! Pathetic pantywaist has no guy friends and needs a best man for his wedding? Weak.

Jason Segel's last featured film Forgetting Sarah Marshall made 17.5 million its opening weekend, and Paul Rudd's last, Role Models, made a little over 19 mill. So, for an R rated comedy, its 18 million dollar opening was anout expected. Up against Knowing, which screamed "giant disater special effects that must be viewed on the big screen", it opened pretty well. Of course, as stated time and time again, box office and quality rarely go hand in hand.
I thought what Man did very cleverly, was give the basic rom-com formula, couple meet cute-couple break up-couple get back together, and cast it with two guys. And I have to say, between this and Lt. Dangle, will Thomas Lennon ever be cast for a straight role ?
March 23, 2009, 1:06 p.m. CST
Uh, guys? How can you possibly not realize that was a joke?
March 23, 2009, 2:04 p.m. CST
Renowned novelist and genetalia..how fucking clever. Saying Rudd and Segel play the same "man/boy" character again and again, is like saying Gervais plays the same chubby, self-centered, misanthrope over and over again.
Segel's character in Man is nothing like his character in Marshall, or his weekly sitcom How I Met Your Mother. And Judd's character is nothing like his in Role Models, Knocked Up, etc. Whereas Ricky's characters on The Office, Extras and Ghost Town are nothing li..oh.....never mind.

it's Geddy Lee.
March 23, 2009, 2:06 p.m. CST
I find Gervais hilarious, also.
March 23, 2009, 2:21 p.m. CST
enjoy the movie or dont dont fuckin come here with box office bullshit. some great movies havent performed well at the box office, and that doesnt effect the quality of the film. go to hell.
March 23, 2009, 2:38 p.m. CST
That movie was great, and it isn't doing that well.
March 23, 2009, 3:01 p.m. CST
Smart people can't afford to go to the movies. Dumb asses on the other hand are like," The power got shut off again,oh well, lets take the grocery money and go see Knowing." Thats only a theroy of mine. I'm probably wrong.
March 23, 2009, 3:24 p.m. CST
he's a badguy in Dragon Warrior 4 which was on NES http://tinyurl.com/c8fu4y so they didnt invent shit on that name!
March 23, 2009, 3:35 p.m. CST
versus waiting till renting 3-4 months later. I debated seeing I Love You, Man, since it'll play just as well on the small screen. But I could see people wanting to see Knowing on the big screen.
Nothing though, absolutely nothing, can explain the continued success of Paul Blart..except for the Walmarting of America.
March 23, 2009, 3:35 p.m. CST
The majority of this movie's targeted audience was busy watching the NCAA Tourny this weekend like normal people. Bet it does real well next week as well. Rudd is the man.
March 23, 2009, 3:38 p.m. CST
The bizarre thing is how is this suddenly disappointing at the b.o.? It will end up exactly the same as Sarah Marshall and Role Models, both of which everybody considers total successes. Spin doesn't make sense.
March 23, 2009, 3:55 p.m. CST
Saw this opening weekend, and man maybe I'm out of touch with what's in, but this movie was really lacking in the funny department. Sure, there were high points, but this movie was MORE AWKWARD than funny or entertaining.

with an uninspiring ending. Rudd and Segal play very different characters than past roles (despite the repetition of genre). As funny as it was, it seemed as if they didn't know how to end the film and just took the most obvious route.

Post the friggin' article!! I'm eager to know what his involvement is, aside from the fact that his War Begins theme inspired the 2nd Star Trek trailer. Did JJ scrap Michael's score and go with Tyler instead?? Tell me, tell me!!

Thanks for the compliment on my name, I thought about it when I was touching myself. And yes, Ricky Gervais plays pretty much one character as well, but at least he's funny which I don't find Rudd or Segel in their played out "man/boy" characters. And I only wish I'd been as clever to think up "skimn." Damn! Guess I'll go eat worms.
March 23, 2009, 11:33 p.m. CST
Saw the movie, some funny bits, but not that great. Paul Rudd is ok as a second banana, but he cant carry a movie.
March 23, 2009, 11:37 p.m. CST
between the two characters. I coudl see why you would want to hang with Segel's character, he likes to party, he's funny and hey, he likes Rush! Rudd's character is awkward, not funny, and has littel appeal.

The people I knew who were obsessed with Rush were a drummers. So when I saw "Freaks and Geeks" and Nick was obsessed, it made total sense. So if this guy had been a drummer who was obsessed with Rush I would have thought the same thing. Yeah I would have thought it was 1/2 a F&G shout-out but still it wouldn't have been like he ripped it off or anything. People worry about the weirdest things.

Do directors go on vacation in the middle of a movie? I read that and was like 'huh?' Oh and I did think Sydney was going to turn out to be a serial killer. He had the underground lair thing going on, didn't seem to have a source of income but had all that stuff. I figured he took it from his victims. LOL
