Is HOME BREW dead'

Published at:  Jul 27, 1999 3:54:05 AM CDT

Oh No! No... That's not true! That's Impossible! The McKenzie Brothers must return! I mean... McFarlane is doing the toys... That means the project is by law a cool project... right? Sigh... Oh well, if it doesn't work out, at least we have one truly perfect STRANGE BREW to bury our depression in.

Over the last week, The Toronto Sun & The National Post reported that
the financial backing for Dave Thomas' McKenzie Bros. sequel "Home Brew"
has fallen through. Dave has confirmed that there is a problem and he is
currently looking for alternate financing. It was also reported that Dan
Aykroyd will be coming to Toronto to work on the script. Sign me Trawna.

I hope this project "takes off", eh.

    by pokerchip kid

Well, I was one of those old timers who saw the original run of the McKenzie brothers on SCTV. Not only that, but I own their album. Yes, that would be an album. Not a tape and not a CD. The first Strange Brew is a classic...I remember seeing it in the theatres. I laughed my ass off despite the fact that I was too young to even drink a beer. I even did a book report with my best friend, much to the dismay of my teacher, in full McKenzie mode. I do hope this project comes to pass...this last decade is sorely lacking in classics like Caddyshack, Meatballs and Animal House. Yeah, yeah...I know this is a sequel, but I have faith in those two funnymen. It is a project that would get me more excited then that overhyped Lucas video game. Well, in the meantime, I'm popping open a cool one and wishing those wacky Canadians all the luck in the world. Here's to you. I'll be getting first choice at the drive in waiting for your flick to arrive. You hosers need to get on the ball, eh.

HOPE THIS TURKEY DIES IN ITS SLEEP

    by tector gorch

To quote a famously outspoken American, "YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!" - by that I mean anybody who actual wants this piece of junk to make it onto the screen. I have read the script for this so-called comedy, and I can tell you it contains about as many laughs a Franz Kafka suicide note. I suppose those of you who snigger at the sexual connatations of the Latin word "Regina" might raise the odd chuckle after dropping a kilo of acid, but seriously, there isn't one good joke in the whole thing. No wonder Aykroyd needs to work on the script. He needs to feed it through the shredder, dig out an old VHS copy of The Blues Brothers and remind himself of the days when he used to be funny.

    SCTV

    by all thumbs

SCTV...I used to watch reruns on what channel I don't remember, but I do remember the Mackenzie brothers out of all the skits I saw on there. (That and a parody of the Nutty Professor with John "Then-Cougar" Mellencamp which is branded into my brain forever more) About Home Brew...I don't know if there should be a second movie because they generally pale in comparison, BUT...this might actually work. Don't worry, they'll find the funding. All they need to do is head to the right beer company.

    Home Brew sounds good

    by moby

I was extremely upset over Tron remake reports, but when this sequel went into production, I was excited to say the least.

The first was very funny, these guys need a career boost, and it seems logical to make a sequel.

Dave Thomas even said "it's appropriately lame for the Mackenzie brothers to wait 17 years to do a sequel".

    Skunky Brew

    by jackstar

The McKenzie Brothers are in the same position for me as Austin Powers. Good characters, but shitty movies. As imaginative a take off on Hamlet "Strange Brew" was, it just wasn't that funny. Better then anything starring Adam Sandler.. sure, but that's not saying much.

And they brought Dan "Ghostbusters II/Blues Brothers 2000" Akroyd on to save this? Call it a case of blind leading the blind. Except for some decent Bob Dole impersonations and some good supporting work in Gross Pointe Blank, Akroyd hasn't been funny since 1985.

I say keep the McKenizies in the beer commercials. These are small, measured doses where the characters shine, and don't have to be fluffed to fill an hour and a half of screen time.

um..... blues brothers 2000 strike a bell with any of you? what a piece of trash. this'll be the same. let's try to relive our fond memories by reviewing strange brew rather than tarnish the name of a great film by releasing a lousy fawking sequel. there's no hope for this one folks.

Please listen to Optimus Prime. He/she/it speaks the gospel. The first one was ok, but a sequel? A sequel with Dan Akroyd attached? Blues Brothers 2000, Ghostbusters 2, and don't forget Caddyshack 2. My God he is Mr. Shitty Sequel...Please keep him away from Driving Miss Daisy 2...OOOPS! Sorry Ms. Tandy. Out.

I take it you're trying to tell us you have it on LP- as in Long Playing record -because an album is an album no matter what format it is on.
