Sun and Ben are sharing a scene. Does this mean they’re in the swinging Dharma ‘70s as well, presumably alongside John and Ilana? Man, I bet John has a few questions for that Pierre Chang fellow!
Two weeks ago? James, free at last from the shadows of Jack and John, finally found his place in time and space and the arms of Juliet. His encounter with the leader of the hostiles was a beautiful thing, though I’ll admit I’m more than a little curious about why that dead Dharma dude’s body was of such keen interest to Richard Alpert.
Tonight’s installment, titled “Namaste,” features the second appearance of Sterling Beaumon as Young Ben Linus:
When some old friends drop in unannounced, Sawyer is forced to further perpetuate his lie in order to protect them. Guest starring are John Terry as Christian Shephard, Jeff Fahey as Frank Lapidus, Francois Chau as Dr. Marvin Candle, Sad Taghmaoui as Caesar, Zuleikha Robinson as Ilana, Reiko Aylesworth as Amy, Sterling Beaumon as young Ben, Patrick Fischler as Phil, Molly McGivern as Rosie, Eric Lange as Radzinsky, Dan Gauthier as co-pilot and Sven Lindstrom as photographer. "Namaste" was written by Paul Zbyszewski & Brian K. Vaughan and directed by Jack Bender.
ABC announced this week that “Lost” will see its two-hour season finale air May 13, so start planning those viewing parties now.

Is it just so painfully obvious that Herc can't see the forest in spite of the trees? I thought it was a no-brainer that Richard required payment for the Others being killed so Sawyer gave him a dead Dharma member in order to satisfy the bloodlust and keep the peace.

I know this has probably gone over time and time again....do we know that for sure? Why would Sun and Locke end up in present time with Ben and Lapidus? Didn't the Marky Mark torturer who loves Michael Jackson say the pilot took off with two other people? If so, Sayid would be one of them and he's in the Dharma timeline. My head hurts already..green beer..not so good the next day. Has there been any definitve statement other than the canoes in what we know is a future timelne both being on the beach?

I'm really disappointed this wasn't obvious to everyone since the moment 316 landed. You guys had better step up your game if you want to follow this show.
And you ask why Sun didn't go back to the 70s with the other time displaced people? Well, to answer that question, you have to answer the question of why those people in particular were part of the time displacement. Why did the time displacement effect the survivors of 815, Juliet (an Other), Miles, Charlotte, and Faraday (who came via freightor), Locke (who was with the Others), Vincent (who is a dog), and Jin (who was in the Ocean, far from the rest). I challenge you to find one strand of commonality in these people. And when you ask why Sun hasn't gone with them, you imply that you know of some commonality. So what is it? -
I was thinking about it during the hiatus, about how great these recent episodes have been in answering so many outstanding questions and it occured to me:
Lost is still jerking our chain.
Look at the most recent ep before tonight: Sawyer, Juliet, Miles, Daniel and Jin spend 3 years with the Dharma initiative: 3 FRAKKING YEARS and what do we see them doing? playing security guards and mechanics. I don't know about you guys but if i spent 3 years with a mysterious research initiative, i wouldn't fuck around fixing their bloody jeeps.
We know, for instance, that Pierre Chang and the de Groots were involved in Dharma, yet the only interchange we've seen so far is Daniel bumping into Chang at the start of the season. After 3 years, don't you think that they'd devote their time to discovering EVERY SINGLE THING THEY COULD -

O.k. Based on the previews, Sun is in the present-day. I fail to see, though, how you can be so condescending about that bit of information as if it were obvious prior to now, given that the only people (Hurley, Jack, Kate) on 316 that we have seen go back to the 70s were all Oceanic Sixers.As for your challenge, I have a commonality that satisfies all of them. The current consecutive streak of time for being on the island for all of them was three years or less (with Juliet having been there for three years, and the rest having been there much more briefly).

I didn't forget about her and almost mentioned her. But in the absence of evidence, how do I know she and the kids haven't been moving through time as well?I could also offer a side theory about how Cindy and the kids were brainwashed (perhaps via the Clockwork Orange room), and maybe that ties members of The Others to the island in some way. She seemed extremely spaced out when Jack talked to her. Perhaps Juliet did not receive the brainwashing because they did not want to tamper with her physician's brain, which was vital to the procreation problem.

Ben sent the Others to the Temple. Perhaps, while there, they received some kind of immunity from the temporal displacement that would happen soon. That would explain why Locke and Juliet were not saved from it. I do hope and I like to believe we will get an explanation. This mystery in particular is kind of annoying to me because it requires too much discussion on specifics and because most people don't think its important.

i wonder if this is connected to the Lost videogame. i remember back then they mentioned the possibility of your photographer character making an appearance on the show. of course the game wasnt a huge hit so its probably just coincidence.

Besides mild hints at those on the second island being in the present Darlton also confirmed in one of the last 2 podcasts that the island is in 2007. (My speculation) So ether they go back 40 years when they take a boat to the main island like Faraday's clock rocket experiment or they stay in 2007 and big Ben never runs into little Ben.

I thought it was going to be Sawyer, but Kristin Dos Santos debunked that theory.
I really like Daniel Faraday and I feel that he can offer a lot more to the show...but I doubt they'd kill off Ben...so unfortunately we will be seeing the last of Faraday sometime soon.

Daniel is a safe bet. There is an upcoming episode that is said to be a sequel of sorts to "The Constant." Sounds like it will Daniel-centric.
A lot of fans are guessing Ben killed Penny in "316," so he was all bloody from it. I am not so sure it was not Desmond sacrificing himself defending her, though. it would be a twist. i am not sure how that would play into Ms. Hawking's warning the island is not done with him yet, though. perhaps Penny brings him back to be resurrected like Locke? her father might tell her the island can do that. -

This show has never really been afraid to kill anybody off and mindfuck the audience.
Also, they've already got their guarunteed final season, so it's not as if they have to worry about losing ratings because one of the "Chracter Shield Trinity" got killed off.
All I'm saying is...if this show really wants to shock everyone...and impress me in particular...they'll kill off either Sawyer or Kate. -

The show does an excellent job at killing people off. Remember when Charlie was hung from a tree and Jack couldn't save him. And Kate made Jack give up. But then Jack DID save him? Or when Jack tried to save Boone for a whole episode, and Boone actually died? Or when Desmond made it very clear that Chalie was going to die? Which made me think he wouldn't die. But then he did? Or when Charlotte died a few weeks ago? I didn't see that coming. Or when Sawyer shot Tom? All pretty unexpected.

But wasn't Rebecca Mader credited as a main castmember as well? Not that that says anything, but I just wouldn't have looked at hers as being a "major" character death. But here's the thing: who would be considered major-ish? Not like there's a lot of major *supporting* characters in this show anymore.

But I don't see Lost as requiring all the extraneous material. Sure, it's there, but it's by and large a product of marketing, and although it may involve the creators/showrunners, it's not necessarily their vision. I've spent basically zero time on the various Lost Experience-type, and I don't feel like I've missed anything.

As many of you know BSG is ending this week, am a fan of this show too, and like many fans gave been disappointed with recent episodes, it has felt like the creators are unsure of how to end it,bring it together. There is 2 hours left so am hoping that doesn't disappoint too.
I really hope the Lost guys know how to end this thing. Seeing the episode title for the last ep of this season had given me more confidence. -

One minute she's on a plane handcuffed to a former Iraqi Republican Guard who is wanted for murder in Guam. There's a blinding flash of light. Suddenly...the Iraqi she was handcuffed to has disappeared into thin air...along with the handcuffs. The plane is forced to make an emergency landing on an uncharted island(s). The next day she is having a conversation with a 'dead' guy on the beach....all he remembers is 'dying'.

I was on the phone when Sawyer was driving Jack, Hurley, and Kate to DHARMA land. Did I hear Hurley asking about the Purge?

Hurley asked about the purges and if Sawyer was going to warn Dharma. Sawyer replied that Faraday had ideas about "what they can and cannot do". Jack, surprised, asked if Faraday was there, and Sawyer replied with something like "not anymore" or "not exactly".

Ben's a pathological liar. We don't know who or what he is aware of. My assumption is that he knew all of the survivors based on this memory.

Working hard to get everyone back to the Island only to find its 1977, he's now a JANITOR, and SAWYER is in charge. I'm sure he's beginning to think it may have been a mistake to come. But he's already starting to show traces of acting like Locke- waiting for a sign or for the Island to tell him/show him what he's supposed to do next.

I'm watching the scene where he comes out of the wrecked cabin and he says "My name is [silence]." My remote control was across the room when that happened. Was that just my local ABC station (Detroit) or did everyone hear - er, not hear - that moment of silence? Was it part of the show?

Just one big causality loop that we've been show over the past 4-5 seasons in tiny little increments? So does that mean it's all SUPPOSED to be connected by predestination paradox or will the rest of the show be about them trying to get OUT of this predest paradox?

and is fascinating to watch...all this time we've been after explanations and rather than having them we're actually seeing everything unfold and be setup. Hearing things like "Juliet will put your names on the list" which is presumably what the others end up with in the future when they choose the survivors they want is just geekily awesome.

I don't get how something can happen before it happens. I know eventually Ben gives Sayid the sandwich AND THEN they meet on the island when he's pretending to be Henry Gale, but for all this time, the Hatch was the first time they met right? I mean, there has to be a thing such as real time doesn't there? So Ben couldn't have remembered him, and vice versa, until after they met in real time in that cell which happened "after" Sayid tortured Henry Gale, worked for him, took the same plane back to the island as him, etc.

Interesting theory, but I doubt that's how its gonna work out- Juliet's LIST becomes the Others' LIST for the survivors they want. It won't work that way because A. Sawyer was on the list too, and Sawyer doesn't exist in 1977. B. They let Hurley go just to warn the rest of the LOSTies. C. Jack, Kate, and Sawyer were needed so Ben could manipulate Jack into performing surgery. I think the importance of the lists in this episode was just a nod to the recurrence of important lists throughout the series.

...he somehow got zapped right back to that moment in 2004 where he was sitting watching the news about Flight 815 and sobbing uncontrollably for no reason. Going through it ALL over again (and maybe again and again and...) but doesn't have a memory of it, except maybe subconsciously.

Trust me. I wouldn't remember one person from a crowded mind of literally THOUSANDS of faces and names of people I've met through 30 years of time. So I think its quite allright if Ben ends up not remembering one person he met when he was a kid.

The thing is, once Ben hooked up with Richard Alpert and they started putting things together, and God knows what Jacob told him. And I guess Jacob's story won't be done until they come out of this loop. They may need to get to a point where everyting is finished and corrected, but won't it just keep happening unless someone or some thing is permanently removed from the equation or changed? Who or what is it? And at least some of the Lostaways may never be able to leave because they're connected to the island's time travel stability.

I was wondering why Ben was walking around fine at the beginning of this episode, when last we saw him he was out like a lite in the Hydra office. I thought that might have been a 316 'crash' related injury...but it appears to have been 'paddle upside the head' related.
I also thought it was odd Lapidus would so easily leave his passengers to help Sun look for Jin. Not very 'Captain' worthy, IMO...which is sad. All they needed to do was have Frank say..."Look...I'll come with you..but only because I need some spare parts off of 815 to get our plane back in working order"...at least it would have given him a little more honor in 'abandoning' his passengers. That gets this episode it's first X for me.
The next X??? God...I really felt the love quadrangle was heavy handed tonight. I'm NOT a shipper...I know people LIKE the shippage...but I just felt like the episode started out so strong...and slowly devolved into an episode of "Desperate LOST Housewives". Not that we didn't see any of this coming...but it sure got 'soapy' for LOST.
What saved this episode from falling to a B- for me?

I'm not willing to conceed James Ford bites it this season...but I have a feeling he's gonna be beggin Jack for help soon.

So...Sheppard, Sr confirms...there's an 'on island' way to get back to 1977. What could it be? And why wouldn't you use it all the time?...Like...the day before the purge (1992)...Why not travel back to 1977 again? Darlton better be careful here...I think I hear Fonzie warming up his motorcycle at the shark tank here.
Oh, oh...this episode DID earn a B-...No Farraday...No Locke...No Bernard & Rose...and more importantly....NO VINCENT!
I have a theory about Bernie & Rose. They didn't get absorbed into the Dharma Initiative...so...did the Hostiles take them in? Hmmmmm. Vincent's a Hostile? Interesting.

Sawyer doesn't have arrogance like he did in the early Island days. Now its just plain confidence, bc like it or not, Sawyer has his shit together. He's had a plan and its worked for 3 years. What's Jack got? Just some sense that he should be back on the Island. But what now? He doesn't have a freakin' clue, and his arrogant (and passive) shot across Sawyer's bow for leadership assessment pissed me off. Jack's been cold lately. He just sorta smirked at Sawyer and shook his hand. Maybe its true to character, but its not very human. Sawyer seems to me to be the more empathetic character at this point. He's like Hurley- he loves seeing his old friends, smiling, laughing, and hugging. Jack just stands there and very stoically smirks and shakes hands. I don't trust pple that act like that. And it pisses me off that Darlton handled the "hero" lead character in that manner tonight.

I felt like this episode missed a lot of opportunities for writing. There could have been so many great ways for Sawyer to tell them they were in the 70s. I was running through ideas in my head like, "Hope you like Peter Frampton, Doc" Also Sawyer's Kong like to Hurley didn't resonate with me. And the whole orientation sequence was devoid of any tension that it was supposed to have. I thought this Brian K. Vaughn guy was supposed to be a good writer? Does he usually write for the show?

Seems like it turned into a bad spin off. Bummed the storyline I was getting into got abandoned for an endless stream of arbitrary events. Lost went from my favorite show to background noise while I browse the web. I even read the AiCN Lost comments in an attempt to find some sort of enthusiasm for the show but it's not working. Oh well, only one more season to go...

Christian shows Sun and Frank a picture of the Dharma crew in 1977. It appeared to include Juliet (correct if wrong--only saw it for a second). Wouldn't she or anyone else in 2004 (Ben's crew) have noticed this? Just wondering.

In case you didn't notice...this season is like a mirror image of Seasons 1 & 2.
Jack has become Locke. Whereas John was trapped in a dead end job at a box company takin orders from dumbass 'Randy'...who saw himself destined for greater things...becomes a man of faith once 815 crashes.
Jack this season finds himself returning to the island because he's starting to believe that all these things that are happening are NOT coinicidence...but his "destiny"...The man of science...now taking a 'leap of faith' in the island. But...go figure...the moment he gets there...he is handed a "Workman" jumpsuit and told he's only cut out for 'janitorial work'. A SPINAL SURGEON! Jack has to laugh at that...but the comparisons to Locke, pre-crash, are palpable.
Now...our favorite con man Sawyer. he's become Jack! Look at the big dog! Running the show...stealin Jack's sexy fertility doctor....comin up with 'plans'. He's da MAN!! That's why Jack just smirked at him when LaFleur said..."I'm handlin it, Jack...Must be a good feeling, huh?". Jack never wanted to lead back in 2004...he was handed the job...perhaps it was his destiny...but he never believed that. But one thing Jack DOES know...
It sucks being the leader when the lives of your friends hang in the balance...especially in the 'no win' environment of the damn island. Choices have to be made...and sometimes people die because of it. Sawyer will soon find this out for himself first hand. And...mark my words...
He will be just as LOST as Jack when his 'plans' start leading to deaths. And he will seek out Jack's help to 'fix' his mistakes. -
That's my complaint. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the original show with Charlie and Claire and the baby and Walt. I mean if they were formally unnecessarily stretching the show to get 22 episodes or whatever, I like that better. Now it seems kinda rushed. And I don't think the characters are acting like themselves. For instance that whole thing with Sawyer and Jack tonight made no sense. Last time they saw each other they were on the chopper and there was no animosity. So that hate face from Sawyer doesn't make sense to me.

Good... because Season 2 and half of Season 3 are hands down the weakest aspect of LOST as a whole. Once you get past the minipod of Season 3, LOST is consistently GOOD.
Well, okay, okay I do miss those old classic Season 3 episodes like the tattoo episode with Jack. -
Probably my favorite part of the episode is the scene where Jack finds out he is just a "WORKMAN"... The look on his face is just priceless... It will be interesting to see how the Sawyer/Jack feud continues this season (cause like someone else has said I dont see Jack sitting on the bench for much longer)...

After we learn what the deal is with the island, I think we'll learn that the point of the losties being on the island is to bring peace to this island.
The reason why they're back in time now is to ensure the shit doesn't hit the fan. They need to prevent the purge from ever happening and prevent Ben from ever coming to power. And somehow open up the lines of communication between Dharma and Others so they can achieve peace. Remember Dharma is run by Charlies Widmore, an ex-leader and outcast of the island who clearly knows a bigger picture of what the island is.
just some food for thought. Now does anyone have a screencap of this creepy girl in the corner, I missed it in this scene but now I am really intrigued to see it. I remember in S.3 when Locke first meets Jacob, if you freeze the frame at the right moment when Jacob appears you can tell that it's Christian Shepherd sitting in the chair, wonder if it might be the same deal with tonight, perhaps Claire??? -

Though Doc Jensen likes to think it mirrors Season 2 more, and the final season will be more like the first. And I was nonspecific in my last post. When I said "Jack just smirks and shakes hands," I meant for the reunion scene. Its been 3 years and that's all you can do? Shit, when you came back to the beach camp after being with the Others for a week, the two of you at least smiled at each other.

Sawyer's been in charge for 3 years and for once everything has been great. Now his friends are back- and he's happy- but he's got to figure out how to make everything work. And here comes Jack- who Sawyer is happy to see, and he even offers the Doc a beer- but Jack refuses to take a seat after Sawyer offers him the couch, and then he goes on the offensive, very passively suggesting Sawyer is a bad leader, and then not so passively trying to suggest he himself is the better leader bc he "got us off the Island" (big whoop Jack- it was 6 pple and you left far more). So I'd say Sawyer's hate face is completely justified when an old friend comes to your house at night, refuses your hospitality, and then suggests you're not doing anything correctly (even though you have for 3 years) and implies he himself would be doing better.

It's not great, but trust me, it's a person. in the scene she moves her head to the right. I'm positive the smoke entering the open door and this person are related. I think the smoke manifests itself into ghosts of island dead. It could be claire or charlotte. These ghosts probably congregate with each other. -
With the quiet endings. Remember when LOST didn't always end with a cliff-hanger, but sometimes a sweet, slow ending with a soundless title punch?

This was a good episode. I can understand people complaining about bsg of late, and heroes, but Lost is consistently good. There was action, character growth, story progression, everything people complain about with the other shows. Now it's 'I miss old Lost'. Guess you can't please some people.

Sometimes I'd like to have that kind of ep where by the end you feel good and warm inside bc you're in love with the characters and its nice to see them in such moments. > I don't think anyone is hating. Looks more like a production gaffe to me than an easter egg. When LOST does easter eggs...they are usually pretty blatant. This woman seem to be working behind the scenes on the show...perhaps a sound recorder. Her head def turns and looks at Sun right before the camera comes in close on Yujin's face.
I'm chalkin it up to a production gaffe...which I can't understand how they think ANY gaffe is gonna go 'unnoticed' on this show....the way we nit pick it to pieces. The really could have put a 'blur' effect on that background and made her less noticable. May have just been the only shot they had in the can and they just had to use it. -

I'm not saying Jack has 'become' Locke in the 'physical' sense. I'm saying...their characters are swapping roles. Jack used to be a 'man of science'...everything can be explained logically...Now he's putting on his dad's shoes on a corpse! he even joked that Locke must be laughing his ass off at that. He was a spinal surgeon...now he's a janitor. I don't think it will be too long beofre Jack say "Don't tell me what I can't do!". I'm just saying, as a narrative device...the characters are flip flopping traits. Sawyer's now the leader, etc.

Whats with people still wondering about such obvious plot points?? The reason Ben always knew so much is because of his interactions with the losties in the 70s. We are finally getting deep into "time traveling" aspect of the show, which as we see now, IS the show. Cant help but think there was something up with Sawyer and the book (like he was reading something deeply important). Perhaps he needs to keep studying up to ensure the preparations are going according to plan in order to fix the "future".

In fact, I think it would be great if all of Season 6 had warm and fuzzy endings that tie up all the loose ends and the last one just ends on one big-ass tease that never gets resolved. I mean, I want answers and I don't want answers. I don't think I want everything explained, there would be no mystery left... which is what I love most about the show.

I've always loved Sawyer's constant reading. It's one of those great little character details that adds depth. And he read either "Atlas Shrugged" or "The Fountainhead" (can't remember which) on the island, which is awesome. --- QUESTION: Where the hell is Locke in 2007? I think when we last saw Locke, that took place the same time as Lapidus and Sun got to the Island. Cesar went off to look in the buildings- like he planned, and they had campfires going. Makes sense to me.

I get that you have fave characters, okay. but LOST has such a huge ensemble it's hard if not impossible to fit everyone in every episode. Okay, no Widmore, Penny, Dez, Faraday, GhostyClaire, Walt or Vincent this epp, but we get Marvin Candle once again taking part in the story, not just a face on a tape. and we get Ethan as a baby and Ben as a boy and previously mentioned blood stain guy and Christian. Yes, I want Rose and Bernard and Cindy and the children and I'm still not sure Scott is dead. Or Steve... But with a cast this big the only way to fit everyone in would be to give each character one scene saying "Hi, I'm..."So if the minus was for absent friends, then I'd consider your final grade to be a full B.Me, I might grade it even higher, but then I'm just pretty happy to be back.

While the first six episodes of Season 3 (the mini-season) will always be a little weak but this episode totally redeemed the rock crushing tasks of Sawyer and Kate during those episodes. The producers really did have a plan way back then! And it actually makes sense that Ben would know to build the runway, since he had interaction with all the castaways in the past! Loving it!

Ben's childlike infatuation with Juliet. Building himself a runway because he knew it would save his life. Also supports the idea it has hurkey who eventually recites the numbers at the radio tower. Just the fact the losties were and always have been part of the dharma initiative. You think Ben would have taken that picture down so nobody would have seen it.

'Lost' is usually so good at sealing up plot holes, I'm sure they got taken by the "hostiles" and we'll find out later. Wouldn't it be weird if they end up being some of the Others?
About the girl in the background: now that I saw it, I'm positive it's on purpose. There's almost no way they would have left that in there. Looked like Claire to me. Loved how they heard the voices, though. Seems like that pretty much confirms that Smokie, the Spectres (Christian, Claire, etc), and the voices are all connected. -

Jay2517..."The Incident" is coming...but...remember...the 'incident' as described by Candle in the original Orientation film...was the result of someone trying to use the computer to communicate with 'the outside world'. So, I don't think the incident will have anything to do with time travel...but it will have dire ramifications. I think Christian will give them instructions on HOW to get where (when) they need to go. -

So I'm watching Desmond's 1st episode on my DVR (G4 plays old Lost eps every day)... And Jack is entering the hatch for the first time and as he walks into the station I notice the roof looks EXACTLY like the model the Dharma guy is working on!!! He's working on Desmond's station!!! Goddamn I love this show... (Note : I didnt hear the guy saying "he saw the model of the Swan" the 1st time I watched tonights ep...) Seriously, the entire Lost series has probably the most replay value of any show I can think of...

the video was spliced remember? who knows what he really said in it. also, he said it couldnt communicate with the other stations. that was a lie because mike talked to "walt" when he was on shift at the swan. the swan was also being monitored by the pearl station to see if they actually went through with the protocol of the doctored orientation film. he might have revealed the incident and about faraday but, had to be doctored because the 815 survivors couldnt know after they crashed. its looking like ben has alot to do with things.

it cant communicate with the outside world. they were manipulating the 2 man crew in the hatch. the only hatch that could communicate was the flame. it was spliced for a reason. they were there to release the biult up magnetic energy. the swan has to be built over the bomb more than likely.

its looking like faraday is going to use "jughead" to get the survivors back to present time on the island in time for the "war". hence the incident and the swan station being built over it.

Don't know if anyone has asked this, but why didn't Sun disappear from the plane like the rest of the Oceanic 6? Does it have something to do with having a baby? This seems like a pretty important point.

I think that scene in LaFleur's 'love nest' was merely a "Hey, Everyone...We're about to tell you WHY Sawyer was always readin books back in 2004...He does it because it helps him 'think' better".
That's it...just a lame 'payoff' for a season 1 & 2 'mystery' that nobody really cared about anyways.
And while Sawyer may do a lot more 'recreational' reading than Jack...I'm sure Jack did more than his share of 'educational' reading getting through med school.
In reality...I think that whole scene was written for Sawyer to finally be able to 'gloat' over finally being 'the dude in charge'...and taking more than a lil pleasure rubbing Jack's nose in it.
Either way...I think all that gloating is gonna come back and bite him on his 'redneck' ass. Sawyer was never meant to be 'settled' down in a cozy little love nest with a white pickett fence. Nope. I think Juliet's days are numbered, folks. It's gonna be a love triangle again real soon. -
neither did Ben...Locke...or Lapidus....or any of the other red shirts. I have a feeling they kept Sun in 2007 to delay the inevitable Jin/Sun reunion until this season's finale. As for the others...I think the 'island' made that decision.

Ugh...as much as I dislike this 'soapy' contrivance...Here's my take on it...
Jack will NOT be able to resist closure with Juliet...Sawyer will not be able to resist closure with Kate. The four will meet secretly to do this. Juliette will reluctantly reject Jack, telling him she's 'moved on'...Kate will tell Sawyer..."I can't, James...(he hates that name for a reason, folks)...I'm pregnant...and Jack's the father".
This will cause even MORE friction between Jack & Sawyer...Then, just when it's coming to a head...Juliette gets killed...and Jack & Sawyer team up to avenge her death.
Back to the triangle...Towards the end of the series...either Jack or Sawyer will sacrifice themselves to save the other...and Kate gets whoever's left.
My money's on Jack. -

I was TOTALLY RIGHT about Ethan, and I think we can now assume I was right about Amelia, too.

I was saying it might be cute to Darlton if characters start swapping roles, but in real life people don't just switch personalities. A couple of bad years is not going to turn Jack into more of a Locke type character and honestly I can't tell you who Sawyer was acting like but it wasn't him. Remember the Jeremy Bentham episode? Everyone was acting like a complete dick to Locke. They overdid everyone's harshness to give Locke a reason to want to kill himself.

I have a feeling the Hostile's "Purge of '92" was less an all out offensive against the D.I., but rather, a 'retaliation' attack. I have a feeling that the D.I. will 'break the truce' irreconcilably due to a poor decision by a Dharma 'guy in charge' (cough* LaFleur *cough) that will lead the two tribes to war. I think the D.I. will realize how important some of the parts of the island (outside the sonic perimeter) are to their scientific conquests...and they will seek to forcibly TAKE that land for themselves...resulting in the deaths of many of the Hostiles...and forcing them to dress in rags and grow long hair and beards (as Alpert appeared to have when he met young Benjiman).
I think some of the D.I. will disagree with the blatant breaking of the truce, and will 'jump' ship in sympathy to the Hostiles plight....including 'older Ben'.
This is where 'the good guys' idea gets implanted in Ben's head. That the D.I. were 'the bad guys'...THEY broke the truce first...THEY were the greedy bastards...THEY murdered innocent Hostile women & children first.
I think that's what Ben is referring to when he says "he's one of the 'good' guys". -
I'm talking about idealogies and social status. Jack is moving over to Locke's 'faith' idealogy...Sawyer is moving towards Jack's social status as 'leader'. That's all. Role reversal is nothing new in storytelling.
It has nothing to do with Jack's 'couple of bad years'...it has more to do with Jack realizing that Locke may not have been as full of shit as he thought...perhaps there IS something to this 'faith/destiny' crap. But it wasn't until Jack had nothing left to live for that he began to embrace it.
This 'leap of faith' Eloise is talking about is the only reason Jack got ON Flight 316. Bottom line: Jack's opening his mind to the possibility that all this island 'destiny' nonsense could possibly be for real. Not sayin he's completely convinced just yet, but he's willing to give it a shot. -
I love everything about it. It has it's lulls (like most of season 2 and 3, final 6 episodes of 3 not withstanding) it's worth it to get to the episodes when it's in top form, like this past episode...

When we're all tearing our hair out and watching our LOST dvd's for the 11th time, you'll probably enjoy the arc. The way the season is going is that of a subtle climax... leaving seasons 2 and 3 to involve rising conflict, emotional tension, character backgrounds, etc.
They shined season 2/3's turd into shiny gold. A classic case of turning something crappy (hah) into something good. They're doing the star wars arc. -
Could it be because, as the final reveal might suggest, coz she is already on Island like Ben? Maybe not, but still, why is she in a different time from all others?

Thats a giant "?" for me as well, I'm not sure why that is, ben and frank and even locke make sense but Sun is the inconsistency, the *only* thing i thought of was her and christian, he was telling sun she "had a long journey" perhaps Sun, (for some reason, I'm not actually the biggest fan of her character) is the one who takes up the mantle of setting things right in the future? They may have more planned for Locke (hopefully not less), maybe sun and jin are the lynchpins that hold the two together? I have no idea.

We've already seen Charlotte as a kid, so I'm not sure why some of you think she has yet to be born. I understand some fans calculate that Charlotte was born too late to be that kid but I think that is just a continuity glitch and she was still intended by the show to be the child we saw. -

Boy O, does this show mess with the melon.

they've yet to recast anyone, regardless of how small their role was the first time we saw em, they've always managed to get the same actor back. hell, they got the same kid to play young ben. so i hope no one's been recast because then we'll get the inevitable reveal where instead of just showing us, one of the characters will have to say "hey look its..." and that'll just kill the surprise aspect.

should remember Sayid as Sayid. There are plenty of people I've met as a child (some important at the time) whom I can't remember details about. So, there are three options, all very plausible. Ben completely remembers Sayid and, being Ben, isn't going to sit there and say, "Hey, I know you, old buddy." Ben is a liar and manipulator. Second, Ben could remember Sayid, but very barely, in a deja vu sense. He would just have the sense that he knew this guy. After all, 27 years is a long time when you're still a developing child. Third, he just doesn't remember. What with the killing his dad, becoming a leader and watching everyone he knows die, an Iraqi he met 27 years ago may not have a lasting impression. Consider that my Lost apology.

Rather then asking why SUn didn't disappear I think that its more important to figure out what Her & Framks long journey is. I haven't the foggyest notion as to what that might be. Maybe something that will bring the rest back to 2007?

There are 3 reasons (that I can find) that people like/love/watch LOST
1 - They're into the sci-fi aspects of it
2 - They are into the personal aspects
3 - They are into the mystery
Last night's episode, like many episodes, had some of each but concetrated on the personal aspects. Resetting the dynamics. Sayer in charge. Jack a lowly workman. Kate a threat and a want to and in Sawyer's new life. It all goes to continue the story arc. Still, the first scene...WOW!!
I totally missed the girl in the background behind sun. I totally didn't see smokie when the door opened. I'm sure at least 1 of those 2 actually happened.
I'm thinking, as others are, all of this leads to the incident. My theory on what that is (at this moment) goes back to one of the off-season videos we saw. Candle is doing a video with a bunny when another bunny appears and he (Candle) freaks. Sun is in 2007, as is Ben, Locke and Frank. Christian said they have a journey ahead of them. So it seems they are going to try to go back to 77...unless they try to bring 77 to them.
So what if Ben meets Ben? What if a paradox of something along that nature happens? What if Candle was right to freak because this is a catastrophic event? Catastrophic = incident = death/distruction etc.
And what if the reason they had to go back was not to save the island but to cause the incident?
More later...maybe. -

You know I was a Niki fan, but shes gone now. So I was "Lost" for a favorite island babe. Juliet started to grow on me early this season, but the 70's Juliet is Shagadelic man, yeah! Everything about the 70s hair and dress looks good with her.

I think you're right on, Spyguy - Sun left the island with child, and needed to have the baby with her to return "properly." Like someone else mentioned, this episode lacked the tension that good LOST episodes have - Sun following Ben was NOT tense, saved in the end only by the fact that Ben is creepy as all hell. Sawyer is far too tame - very little conflict coming through altogether. It's not the writing - bad/hurried direction? Too much exposition? BTW, I'm now assuming that Fairaday = Jacob, Fairaday getting knocked out of normal spacetime due to "the incident."

I dont't think the reason for Sun not getting thrown back in time is because she left the island pregnant. I think the return was all dependant on the way they first arrived. I'm really curious as to why the Others didn't return back to the camp after the mercenaries were killed and the freighter was destroyed. Othersville looks to be in the same condition it was left in after the mercs attacked the camp. I guess they're still at the temple, but for 3 years?? I'm sure there's probably more to this.

We all know that no Ajira, Coast Guard, FAA, NTSB 'rescue team' will be able to find 316. just as they couldn't find 815. The time flash messed with the plane's circuitry.
I'll bet ya anything, in order to get BACK off that island, Lapidus will need to go back to the 815 cockpit to snag some 'replacement parts' in order to fix it and get 316 back in the sky.
In a sense...the thing that brought them TO the island originally...ends up helping them leave it forever.
Rb...I'm not sure if the woman hiding behind Sun was a production crew member...or an 'easter egg'....I guess we'll find out...Once Christian tells Sun & Frank about 'their journey' and they leave....perhaps that woman will step out of the shadows and ask him..."You think they will make it?"...

Cheif, Kate's question may have more to do with the fact that she knows she may be pregnant, hence the flash to Juliette (the birth doctor).

Another connection between the two is way back in the sixth episode 'White Rabbit' when Jack keeps seeing Christian theses a scene where Boone is talking to him (if I remember correctly about why he saved Boone instead of leaving him and saving Joanna who was further out) Jack looks over to the forest and sees Christian. look at the tree line and you will see black smoke. So Christian is ether the Smoke Monster or the Smoke Monster keeps taking the form of Christian or theres at least some other connection.
Something occured to me, both Christian and the Smoke Monster have never been seen over at the small island can it cross or even touch water? Or have we just not hade the opportunity to see it/them over there? -
Unlike Kate or Jack, Sawyer seems to actually consider Locke a friend. He was sad when Locke disappeared into the well, and he seemed saddened by the news that Locke had died off-Island. He was, afterall, the man who saved all their lives. Just another thing that makes Sawyer a more human and empathetic character than Jack.

When the shit hits the fan coming up...Sawyer is going to be full of 'logical' solutions...like Jack use to come up with back in 2004...whereas the Jack in 1977 is going to start suggesting more 'leap of faith' type solutions that Locke often spouted back in 2004.
Sawyer & Jack will soon be butting heads the same way Locke & Jack used to in 2004. -

To grow as a character. I think that's why he couldn't help him. Not that he can't touch things (he was holding the lantern), he just needed to let Locke go through the pain and do it himself- to come out better on the other side.

Instead of being one of the DI's new recruits, I was part of The Others' new class. I learned all sorts of vital secrets, got a book full of answers and protocol, and the best part was, our meeting took place on a big, tiered, sand pyramid that sat right behind the Island statue. So I got to run around and see its face (a cat-woman), saw some smaller statues at its feet, and could read an inscription on the back of the statue's head. It said its name was Shabbo or something like that. But eventually the dream changed so that the Ozymandias quote was on the back of the head. And then the whole thing turned into some sort of Karnak (Ozy's Antarctic home full of Egyptian stuff in "Watchmen", that was situated in Los(t) Angeles. It was weird. But my excitement at learning secrets of the statue was supreme.

Anyone remeber how Sawyer acted in Egg Town last season. He was ready to settle down and play "house" in Dharmaville with Kate. Looks like he got his wish but with Juliet.

Was anyone else bugged when Sawyer told off Jack? I was really liking the new Sawyer last week, thinking that he had become a good, likable person, and then Jack comes in wondering what the plan is and Sawyer suddenly turns into a holier-than-thou jerk... and not the funny jerk from seasons past, just an annoying jerk. Has the new leadership role gone to his head?

Sawyer was justified in throwing that stuff back in Jack's face. Like I said up above, Sawyer offered Jack a beer and a seat on his couch, like old friends would. But Jack refused the beer and didn't sit down either. What a jerk.

I was a little miffed by it. At least Jack tried to help people. Sawyer just conned everyone for two seasons playing god with the guns and medicine.

I can't believe it! Like I said, Sawyer was being hospitable until Jack started insulting him, saying he wasn't focused on the problems at hand bc he's drinking and reading. I'd be miffed too when an old friend refuses my good nature and starts suggesting I'm not doing enough in a seriously complicated situation. Sawyer's been helping pple for 3 years while Jack's been boozing it up.

He calmly told Jack exactly why he was wrong and why Jack shouldn't have come into his house and started telling him off. Sawyer is dealing with a wildly complicated situation the best he can and Jack responds with his usual holier than though attitude.

I think the scene where Sawyer starts talking about Churchill and reading in order to think things through is up there in my top ten Lost moments. Sawyers evolution, in my opinion, is the most engaging of all the characters.

They're not old friends. They're old adversaries. Jack just wanted to know what the deal was. He's scared and disoriented and Sawyer was acting like nothing was going on. Meanwhile Jack feels responsible for putting all those people back in a dangerous situation. Plus as I said above Sawyer took some self-righteous tone with Jack even though he used to be the scum of the earth.

They're old adversaries but Jack seems to resent Sawyer more, nowadays, then does Sawyer resent Jack. Jack didn't want to know what the deal was, Jack wanted to know what Sawyer was going to do about it all. Sawyer said he's figuring it out and Jack insulted Sawyer's methods (reading and drinking), then Sawyer calmly reminded him that one of the great leaders of the 20th century did that very thing every night. Jack was just bitter that he doesn't know what's going on, for once, and that he wasn't in charge, and he wanted to insult Sawyer about it too. And Sawyer has every reason to take a "self-righteous" tone at that point. He DID save Jack's ass. But has he gotten thanked for it? No, of course not. Jack will just wait around for Sawyer to screw up so he can say "I told you so."

It just doesn't seem the show's style, you know? If they want to show us something, they just show it to us, dramatically. That shot was focused on Sun's face, and her reaction to this wierd news about her husband being back in time 30 years. The blob of red that is that person's hair wouldn't have been recognizable as anything if she hadn't moved her head slightly. The hair is short, and seems to be two toned, nothing like Charlotte, or anyone we've seen yet. Just a tech person.

It has to do with her kid. My guess is it's cause she was pregnant when she left the island, Locke said they had to bring everybody back, Sun didn't bring the kid, so no flashy to the past for her. Kate got a pass cause Aaron is not really hers. Sun is the only one of the six who were on the plane who didn't flash to the past so - just my pet theory. Feel free to throw rocks at it. Great ep btw.

I believe that Faraday cause "the incident" in an attempt to get Charlotte back. Arriving back in 2004 he remembers everything, and so sets off once again on the loop to try and stop what happens

the barracks did not look the same when sun and frank got there. it looked like they were in some sort of future or that it had been deserted for 3 yrs. also, sun and everyone else did disappear. frank was flying through a storm at night. when the flash happened, it was day and no storm.

Actually in Season 2 Sawyer tells Jack that he was the closest thing that he had to a friend on the island after telling him about having sex with Ana Lucia and Jack asking him why he had told him that.

It's just...Jack is the stranger in a strange land here. His 'vision' of the island is "It's a dangerous place...and we need to be DOING something!"... Meanwhile...
Sawyer has been 'playing house' in the swingin '70's for 3 long years...taking care of the D.I. safety issues...resolving truce conflicts. He's just all laid back...embracing the situation for what it is.
I think Jack was trying to say "Wake the fuck up, Sawyer! You don't belong with these idiots! We have to get our people and get the fuck outta here!". I think Jack was merely taken aback by Sawyer's apparent ambivelance over the situation.
Meanwhile...I think Sawyer was taking an opportunity to 'gloat' a bit...finally have wrestled the 'leadership' reins away from the spinal surgeon (that he may be a lil jealous of, since he got Kate)...Bsically...it was the 'new sheriff' speech all over again.
We saw how well that worked out for Sawyer the last time. -

Just a small observation. Just noticed the pier was still effed up after Locke blew up the sub a while back. I can get over small continuity errors like tech people in back ground or Walt calling Locke Bentham, cause it seems like, for the most part, continuity seems so important to the writers. Hell, considering this is a long running show and not a 2 hour movie its damn impressive.

although i think that for jack and sawyer their meeting in the house was completely out of character for both. they;ve both gone through a lot, both of them know better, and both of them should have put their bullshit aside to recap on whats happened to whom and what the plan is. it just seemed false tension for tension sake. despite all the secrey jack hugs juliet at the door in plain sight of everyone??? yeah its odd that christian can pick up some things and some things he cant.

Earlier I was curious why the others never returned back to "Othersville" and I thought that it was still left in the destroyed state from Keamy and his men, but after rewatching the episode, I'm starting to agree that this might be an alternate future, since the ruined camp still had Dharma signs hanging up that I didn't recognize when Ben, Locke, etc lived there. It's almost like the purge never happened. The other thing that tipped me off was hearing the numbers repeated by Hurley from the radio tower as Ajira entered the island's airspace. Still not sure what's going on though.

So here's a thing. Christian picked up the picture and handed it to Sun. Doesn't this discount the 'ghost' theory about Christian, which was teased most recently when he said he couldn't help Locke up?
Also, doesn't the fact that Ethan was born show that the Losties in 77 already happened and can't change things as in Faraday's theory? If Sawyer and Juliet hadn't shown up, Amy would have been killed, she wouldn't have hooked up with Horace and she wouldn't have been pregnant with Ethan. Even if the hostiles didn't kill her, if it wasn't for Juliet, she would have lost the baby. Isn't that exactly why Juliet was brought to the island? Because of her baby delivering skills, and also Ethan's eagerness to meet her. This has already happened!! So I'm guessing that the decisions that Sawyer and co make are exactly what lead to the future events. So, as Daniel said, they can't change the past. But if that's the case, what's the point? -
it kinda looks like it. if u watch the ep. again there is ALOT of rust and vegatation. plus, when juliet is brought to the island there were no signs of "recruiters". she just met ben. also, the "war" windmore refers too might take place of the purge. all out assault in stead of gasing.

Why are the people saying it's just a mistake or a tech person and there were no obvious clues to it leaving out the part with the clue? Right before we see that girl the door to the building swings open loudly/but slowly in the background and it's kinda misty, as if somebody is entering the room, we just can' see them. I definitely think the woman behind Sun was done on purpose.

316 reciever may have only 'briefly' heard the islands transmission of the numbers as the 'time flash' grabbed Kate, Jack, Hurley & Sayid and pulled them into 2007. But the plane continued through that and landed safely in 2007. (Well, except for the co-pilot!)...
I really don't think there's a new "Marty McFly" timeline brewing here, folks...Danielle didn't change the transmission until 1984 0r 85.

I also don't think the creators of this show are going to out and out make Sawyer the big hero of it and shame Jack's character in the long run. Sawyer did so much shady shit in the course of the series and even though he's turning over a new leaf, it seems, I think the con man (who is conning the Dharma Initiative) will rear his ugly head again. Jack is the hero of this story. Sawyer is just trying to fill his shoes. Everything is out of balance and that's what makes it compelling.

It can be argued that Sawyer jumping from the helicopter was initiated just as much from his fear of returning to the real world where he was scum and had no purpose. Don't forget, Sawyer wanted to plant roots in Other-ville with Kate when Locke was leading them. He was happy to stay there. I always felt Sawyer never wanted to leave the island. He was afraid to. Yes, he saved the people on the copter, but I still think he didn't want to get off the island and have to face the life that was waiting for him. Was he heroic? It's debatable. It's what makes this show so fucking good.

Aside from this radio signal everyone keeps hearing, on the main Island, when Sun and Frank end up at the barracks, it looks as if the Others never moved in. There are still old Dharma signs everywhere, hanging off and broken due to years of neglect. And we know the Others moved right in after the Purge.
Now, what key person would have to be "removed" in order to prevent the Others from succeeding?

i think thats why farady causes the incident. or, the incident in general takes place. to insure this future fucked up reality that sun may be in doesnt happen. he has to manually "course correct" the timeline.

I reckon this may happen instead of the purge, which we've already seen. I doubt they've sent our characters back in time, just to witness events the viewers have already seen in flashback. If the show has emphasised that you "can't change time", it's probably because they're going to figure out how to do it.

Actually, Other-ville looked exactly like it should have when Sun and Frank arrived. If it was present day, the last activity that location saw was when Whidmore's mercs blew the place to bits and it was abandoned. If that is the present, the only people on the island would be Richard and the The Others who all retreated to the temple. I think the barracks looked exactly like it should have after 3+ years of no one living there. The dock also looked like it should have after Locke had blown up the sub.

Otherville isn't in a different timeline. It seems the objection are the Dharma signs and Dharma picture. This can be explained by 1) the Others may have been trying to keep up a semi-appearance of Dharma still active 2) In the history of the Others, they really didn't spend that much of their existence at the Barrracks (10 years) and seem perfectly fine to live elsewhere 3) Maybe they were trying to help new viewers realize that this was the same place the other Losties were in the past 4) The picture of the new Dharma recruits was less than perfect writing, but gets the job done of dramatically showing Sun what has happened without a lot of dialogue

Darlton has stated time & time again that there would not be alternate timelines in Lost. As for the hanging Dharma signs, the few times that we saw Othersville we only saw select areas so of course we wouldn't see the signs. Why would there be a need? For example up till the last few epasodes we never saw the sheriff/monitor station thats in the Dharma town.

Baby Ethan would not have been born if Sawyer and Juliet had not been there in 1977 (to save Amy from being killed by hostiles, to deliver Ethan, who was a breach birth - and no doctor was there). Since Ethan existed as a character in 2004, then we have to assume that Juliet and Sawyer had always been there in 1977. That Faraday was right - you can't change the past. Any actions the Losties take in the past are what leads to the events that have already happened. And if that's correct, the whole notion that they can change things is thrown out the window.

When Desmond went back to the pub in London, everthing stayed the same...except, he did change something. It was small, but the bartender was supposed to get hit with a bat. When Des went back this time, he got hit himself. He called out for the Bartender to duck.
So using the shows logic, at LEAST small events can be changed. -

Ethan was supposed to be an other from birth - Michelle Dressler was going to defect to the others after they killed her husband, the whole thing was an act. When Sawyer and Juliet intervened, she played dumb and let them believe that she really was about the be shot. Ethen would have been born regardless, it's just that now instead of being an other from birth, he's born into the Dharma camp.

... as there are group photos of our new Dharma recruits *and* we know that Ben's people had previously been keeping files on the 815 passengers before the crash. The "list" and photos have helped direct Ben's crew to monitor (and manipulate) the 815 passengers for years. So, at some point, the Dharma crew must get at least a general idea that these people are from the future. It raises more questions, though. Why was Ethan clearly spared during the purge? How does Ben know about the 3 outriggers (unless someone from 2004-2007 goes back in time, as well)? Whatever the case, I suspect that Amy was in the forest to meet Sawyer and company (and that the original intention always had been getting them back to the compound). There's something to her using the sonic fence to stun instead of kill them...

but as I said previously my problem is that it was out of character for Sawyer. So it's the writing or the direction. I don't really blame Sawyer or Holloway.
I think Jack made total sense however because as far as he's concerned, they came back to save Sawyer and everyone on the island. They were told horrible things had happened to them. But really they've just been hanging out. So when he gets there, they tell him he's got to be a janitor and just wait. They didn't come back to wait. They thought the people they left behind were in crisis. Jack sees that Sawyer's got a good thing going and I can understand that it would piss him off that he turned into guilt-ridden junkie Jack for no reason. He could have just stayed in LA with Kate and Aaron had they known that the island peeps were A-OK. -
Did we not see the barracks in pristine condition one minute with Jack, Sawyer & Kate...and a decaying wreck the next with Sun, Frank & Christian (and a totally FIRED sound tech)? You tellin me somebody went to all the trouble of building TWO different 'identical' barracks, one new, one old...just to fuck with people's heads?

It could be pretty interesting on what they will do with flight 316. Especially when the authorities see the flight manifest.

I thought tonights episode was alright, good by television standards but not nearly as good as some of the great hours we had earlier in the season. For the first time while watching Lost, I felt something distinct MISSING from the show. That missing element is DIRECTION. Since the pilot, the over-arching goal was to get off the island. Then, in the last scene of season 3 we find out their new goal is to GET BACK. So we spend a season and a half watching them get off and then finally get back to the island...SO NOW WHAT? Once they settle their dealings with the Dharma Initiative, I see no hint as to the movement of the rest of the show. For some, that might be mysterious and exciting but for me its slightly unsettling. Within one or two episodes I think the show needs another over-arching goal for the characters that is clear to us. I want to root for these characters but I have to know what they want in the first place.

I posted an article with the main costume designer and he said that it was a supprise to him that he had to clothe a character that he thought wasn't coming back at the time but using a different actress. So my guess is that was Claire, but played by a different actress. They probably didn't focus on her since it was a different actress since Emilie De Raven is busy with a bunch of movies.

Well we saw that all of the background 815ers got flaming aarows in the chest. Thats way a new group of background characters were brought to the island to kill off throuh 316. As for Rose & Bernard Im assuming that Next season once everyones at the same time and when R & B's avting schedule clears up we'll get at the very least them showing up and explaining where they have been or at best a flashback episode.

He's pleading with someone in the future, 30 years from now, telling them he's dead from a purge, telling them he knows their president is George W. Bush. You can hear Faraday filming the video, telling Chang the video is useless. You can hear Chang's baby crying. Chang is pleading "please, come back, change the past!". This is the same Chang that said "you can't change the past" when Faraday walked by him in the premiere. So obviously Chang now believes you can, and Faraday probably (although Faraday is being a downer). I think the video was originally Faraday's idea.
Now... think of the impact this video has on EVERYTHING thats happened so far this season! -
I think "when" Sun, Frank, Christian, and possibly Claire, are in that scene at the barracks isn't a when. It's a where. I think they might be caught in a netherworld or a different dimension. That's why it was so messed up looking. That's why Locke is "alive" there. That's why Christian and maybe Claire are there. It's in the same place as that cabin that we saw Claire looking high with Christian is. It's not exactly like a limbo, maybe it's like that train station Neo woke up in in Revolutions. And perhaps it overlaps with our world and that's why normal people like Jack can see his dad. I'm sure that's a rotten idea but it did just occur to me as I rewatched "Namaste".
btw, on the podcast, they cleared up the age issue with Charlotte. Rebecca Mader changed her aged on the set because she's not as old as Charlotte was supposed to be. So Charlotte was supposed to be born in 1970 which would make her old enough to be that little girl Daniel saw in 1974. That was a decision by the actress that they didn't catch in editing. -

He's shooting a TV pilot in our little Canuck town and, of course, being the geek I am, I went and had a good look at the RED camera they shot some scenes with and then, M.C. Gainey was there and I made the fanboy plunge and struck up a conversation with him. Helluva nice guy and I asked him if he was done on LOST, seeing as how he he's deader n' dead now. Yeah, I know. NOBODY actually "dies" on LOST.
No comment says he. heh. But he said there's lots coming down the pike and that the last 4 or 5 episodes are really going to be worth watching. Frankly I can't recall if he meant this season or the FINAL 4 or 5 episodes. He also said the writers have a very thorough plan and it's all coming together.
Loved this ep though.
Just a thought. If the purge of the DI was in '92??? perhaps Sun, Ben and the rest are in the intervening years between the DI purge and before the Others took over. Alternately, pun intended, they aren't in "our" timeline but different one, seeing as how the "numbers" came across the plane's radio just before the hard-landed.
Also when Sun & Frank are with JacHristian in the building and door opened I thought, for sure, that Smokey was coming through.
I didn't notice a "figure" behind Sun and I've erased the episode off the PVR...dang.
Have to catch it in next week's rebroadcast.

Granted...he didn't know she was preggers at the time...but that was an ass move...and he didn't stay sheriff longer that 2 episodes.
LOST lives to put these characters on pedestals....only to knock them right back off. I believe this is LOCKE's season to shine...and by next season we'll all be saying..."Remember when Sawyer was in charge? Man...That was soooo cool!"

The way Kate played Sawyer on the island...and played her bank robbin buddies off the island. The way she handled that gun when the shit went down in the vault? Fuckin HOT! All over a stupid toy airplane? That was fuckin great.
Kate's never been that cool again...and that was 12 episodes into the series. Written by Damon and Jennifer Johnson. Those two need to write another Kate-centric episode pronto.
Get this bad Kate taste out of my mouth over the last 3 seasons.

Michelle Dressley was originally going to defect to the others before Sawyer and Juliet showed up... so, Ethan would have a different father, a different last name, and would be a different person completely. Juliet and Sawyer have changed the course of history completely - Ethan is now Horace's son and is part of Dharma instead of an other, although I assume at some point Michelle will still defect and maybe take Ethan with her. -

They haven't revealed what Sawyer asked Kate to do on the helicopter yet. But the future episode called Whatever Happened Happened is about what Kate did with Aaron, so its my guess that we will also find out what Sawyer asked her to do. Also Im guessing that it was to do something for Cassady the woman that he impregnated and that possibly they became friends enough that she left Aaron with her. (They did know each other before the island also)

Actually from the set up of things I think that we are done with the pedestal knocking. Locke is going on to really lead the Others, Jack is going to be figuring out what his destiny is and Sawyer is going to lead while Jack is figuring that out. Ever since the episode where Hurley conned Sawyer into being nice or get voted out of the camp Sawyer has been set up for this. Im guessing that Jacks role will be a lot bigger then just leading survivors.

I think all the Christian beat downs Jack had to endure off island as a young boy...and as a man who MORE than stepped into his father's shoes as a spinal surgeon...I think he will eventually end up bailing Sawyer out of the mess he created...and become the true leader his dad said he'd never become.

After watching the set-up for the next ep(Sawyer turning on Sayid, rivalries from the losties, etc..), I wonder if Abrams and Lindolf have the intentions of everyone that crash-landed on the island circa 2003, to return to their normal lives that they were living before they came to the island? I'm sure they have to complete whatever job it is the island needs from them, but I always imagined that with the exception of John L., that everyone else was going to return to their present lives at the end of the series(albeit with a few casualties along the seasons).. ......discuss

I went back and watched that video and I just think they want to try it in case something can be done but I don't think Faraday was really agreeing. He seemed like a negative Nancy. I've honestly never understood why when Daniel said that you can't change the past everyone took that as gospel. It didn't seem as if he had time travelled at that point so all his stuff should have been just theory and then on top of that he told Des to go back to the future and contact his mom. I think some people take the characters at their word too much. Why even have time travel in a show if you're not going to use it to change things?

For all that "girl behind Sun" hoopla, I must tell you that NOTHING is visible on standard broadcast TV. Does anyone have video of this? Is the girl moving? Could it possibly be part of a picture on the wall behind Sun? Speaking of pictures, theMiSfIt, of all Lostigators, found that the picture that Christian showed Sun was missing a guy from the photo. There's a short, bald guy on the right side when the picture is taken, but doesn't appear in the photo on the wall. Unless he's hiding behind the woman in front of him, as it appears to me he could be.

This info makes it all the way to Chang who, thinking of his new born son, panics...and figures they have GOT to try to send a message to 'the other side' (my guess, Michigan).
Farraday has given up trying to explain that the future can't be changed, so he agrees to let him 'try'...best case scenario for him...it keeps Charlotte from returning to the island.
However...LaFleur ain't so keen on this idea, cuz it threatens to expose the 815 "LIE"...so he barges in and breaks it up.
We'll know for sure in a few episodes.

Got me all tingly and giddy and excited again, more than I've felt this entire season. While this season has been pretty awesome, it has been somewhat...predictable (at least some of it). No big surprises in the O6 returning to the island, Locke resurrecting etc. We sort of knew the broad strokes of what was gonna happen. Also, while the mystery/sci-fi aspects has more than delivered, the character aspects/relationships have been less than intriguing. But that all changed with Namaste. Watching this episode, I realized I have absolutely NO idea what's gonna happen next. Someone here has called that a lack of direction, I disagree. Furthermore, I was completely taken by surprise by the change in character dynamics. Jack thought he was gonna save the losties, but was instead given janitorial duties (and remember the ghost of Sawyer is part of the reason Jack's relationship with Kate went down the tubes, and him being a drunkie and a junkie. No wonder if he has conflicting feelings). Sawyer has waited for three years for Kate and Locke to come back. Now he's not sure (or at least WE're not sure) whether he wants to be saved, or if he's happy Kate is back. Three years with a good life in Dharma compared to 100 days of pain with Kate (which also feels like distant past to him)...no wonder Sawyer's conflicted too. So the board has been set for a new game, the pieces has been realligned, and I have absolutely NO idea how it's gonna play out. Can't wait! It will be terrific to really care for these characters again! (not that I didn't care, just not as intensely as I used to...) Some thoughts on DOBs, and time travel: * So Charlotte was 34 (she's 29 IRL) when she died, and Ethan was 27 (the actor was 39 in season 1). Of course, that is a bit odd, but larger casting/age discrepancies has occured in the history of cinema/TV, I suppose. However, a pretty simple explanation to this can of course be that when Charlotte left the island as a child, she arrived some years in the future, just like Ben and Locke did. And if Charlotte could do this, what's to say Ethan couldn't have done the opposite? He was born in '77, but has travelled so much between the outside world and the island (or simply travelled in time) that he actually lived 39 years before he could celebrate his 27th birthday (if that makes any sense). * re: the comic con video. I'm still going with YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE PAST, no matter what Chang says. He seems pretty desperate to me in that video, and he's actually saying something to the effect of "revive the DI, continue the research so maybe you can discover a way to save us in the past!" Sounds like the reachings of a desperate man to me. This show's approach to time travel seems to be the 12 monkeys one, not the Doc Brown one. Ie. time travelleres can of course affect/interact with the past, but those "changes" always happened. Therefore - no remembering things in the future at the moment they happen in the past (that makes NO sense), no pictures only appearing in the present when the picture is taken in the past (that picture was taken 30 years ago!!!) no alternate timelines, no saving Pierre Chang. This show is about free will vs fate, and I'm betting they will keep this dichotomy open, even after the series finale, probably ending on there's both fate and free will. They choose to do things because it's their destiny. Therefore, I think the purge is still going to happen, and the O6 will probably have left the past by then. My guess is the incident will be the way they return to the future, and in season 6 we will be finished with the time travelling, and the final war will play out - in the present. Btw, the redhead behing Sun? Definitely a gaffe.

Hadn't thought about it that way, but yer right...the LOST board has has been completely reset for another game! When we started Season 1...we had no idea what the dynamics were gonna be...how or IF they would ever make it off the island and back to their everyday lives. NOW...not only do we have whether or not they can make it off the island to worry about...we also have whether they can all make it back to 2007!...or whether or not they WANT to get back to 2007. Who's a man of faith? Who's the one that will lead? What NEW mysteries will the island behold?
I get the same feeling from the Comic Con video, too...But I DO think people will try to meddle in the past...the problem is...it won't affect the outcome of the future (unlike Marty McFly). Ethan will still grow up to kidnap Claire...and be killed by Charlie. Ben will STILL make the Purge happen...Keamy will still kill Alex. No matter what anyone does to try and stop it. Fate is set.
Some might say...But...what if Sayid puts a bullet in young Benjiman Linus's head next episode (ala Terminator timelines)...It won't matter...the Purge will still happen. Those bodies are IN that grave in 2004...nobody can keep them out of it. Except, of course...

It's an Easter Egg kind of thing. Even if it's canon (and I assume it is), there's no point talking about its affect on the current season because it happened outside the context of the show itself. I'm all for being excited about extra stuff and theorizing about the show based on the extra stuff, but constantly shouting attention for yourself because of something you watched OUTSIDE of the show is a little aggravating. Please get over it. Until and unless they show Chang's video ON THE SHOW, I don't give a shit. I long ago took that stance and feel very passionately about it. Information delivered outside the confines of a show is irrelevant until the show itself MAKES it relevant. That's like Richard Kelly insisting that people read the Southland Tales graphic novel before watching the movie. Um, no. If I have to do research to appreciate your TV show or movie, then you fail.

The reunion between the characters was a let down, especially Kate and Sawyer. Why do the 1977 losties have to have a purpose/ clear direction so quickly ?
I found it interesting that Jack makes all that effort to get him and the others back to the island and when he gets there, he is starting to question the purpose of why he came back.
I don't want Lost to be too exposition heavy, I want their purpose/ direction to reveal itself. We had some exposition heavy moments with Faradays mum earlier this season, and for me it was enough for now.
Saying that, for Sun and Frank, Christian did give them some direction. So it was a good mix in that episode. -

Just speculating about Amy ... I know it's a stretch to say she's in cahoots with the Hostiles, but ... it's also a stretch to just say that she and her husband Paul happened to go for a picnic in the middle of Hostileland. Neither theory makes much sense, if you ask me.

Change it to 1970? Or is that too minute a detail for the powers that be to care about? I really feel like a nerd now, obsessing over tiny details on a TV show!

... I'm also of the mind that Amy wasn't just violating a term of the truce for the sake of having a "picnic." I'd go so far as to say that someone with the Dharma Initiative developed an inkling of the time & space jumps' pattern after Locke & company's 1954 visit, and had Amy and her husband playing lookout for "something." This could help explain her typing the necessary code to subdue Sawyer et al instead of killing them with the sonic fence (besides the fence having multiple code options, Amy could've easily reset the code to "kill" after knocking them out). This makes one almost wonder if the non-drinking Horace was faking inebriation (which occurred right by the sonic fence, no less)--- and if his "3 years" speech was actually a successful mind game he played on Sawyer--- but that's probably giving an expectant father too much credit. BigE... one more thing; Go State!

Maybe a flashback in the next season and a half will reveal an 815er to be someone very different than we first thought.
Still get the sense that Christian had lived on the island before and hence maybe Jack. Also comes back to how we saw Jack in the very first episode, in the jungle and unhurt.

1. Watched the series premiere of LOST on Wednesday, September 22nd, 2004. EW said it was "ambitious", and was the most expensive pilot ever produced. So...they pretty much had me at "hello".
2. I joined The Fuselage forums in 2005, once I realized what an online phenomenon LOST had become...suddenly...I wasn't 'alone' in my obsession with the show.
3. Got banned for 30 days by the 'Lage in 2006, for telling someone they could take their "stupid" theories and shove them up their "shit box".
4. Became dismayed by the fact you couldn't say SHIT BOX at The 'Lage.
5. Meanwhile...had been surfing AICN since 2004...mainly a center column guy...hardly ever messed with Coaxial...didn't even have a screen name...just trolled. Then one day I hit AICN on LOST Wednesday...and Herc had just posted that week's LOST talkback in bold type....so, I dove in. That was November 2006...Season 3 was just starting...I went into the TB and Jesus Christ...there were some dumb theories in there! I HAD to set some muthafuckers straight!
6. November 2006...Finally 'officailly' joined AICN...I choose the name "Cheif Brody" after my favorite movie in the whole world...."King Kong". And...yes...I know I spelled Chief wrong...but some other a-hole already HAD Chief Brody...so I took some liberties.
7. One thing I noticed quickly, was the day Hercules posted a new LOST TB...there was a FLOOD of interest....same for the next day, after the episode...but 2 or 3 days later...it dropped to just a handful of us idiots...hardcore fans. Sorry, the LOST writing is more clever and intelligent than that kind of stuff. Everything isn't a conspiracy, and yes, the LOST writers are very talented and deep and do have complex things woven into the narrative.. but they also forget about things and move on and don't care much about answering them, ie. Libby, which we've pretty much been guaranteed never to get her backstory on now (yes I'm pissed about that), the Hurley Bird, etc.
There's NO WAY someone was messing with time travel hoping Sawyer and Juliet would just happen to be there observing so they could fake-kill them and then lie to them about 3 years passing in order to integrate them into the Dharma initiative in order to... what, exactly? That's right. You can't complete your own conspiracy theory.
Amy is a real mom who lost her real husband and had a real baby named Ethan. Nothing was a conspiracy to orchestrate some sinister plot on Sawyer and Juliet. You're looking too far into it.
Please don't take this as a flame or anything. I just think its ridiculous and a tiny bit insulting to LOST, a show I love. -

I DO remember seeing Jack in a hard hat in a cave from the early promos for Season 5...I think that 'Fray' promo had a couple of shots of him dressed like that.
The only thing I can assume is, as a 'workman', Jack has time to explore the island a bit...perhaps his father waves him to that cave? Remember how Locke took to 'exploring' the island in Season 1...which led him to finding the Swan? I think Jack will take up that hobby THIS season...
Jack came back, thinkin there was some kinda emergency to save his friends from...and he's kinda at a loss that they all seem to be fine. So, I think he'll start to start questioning "What IS this fucking island?"....finally!

For you LOST talkback faithful. It's off-discussion, but not off-topic... please humor me. :) I'm a film major in college, and I'm in the middle of doing my senior thesis--creating a marketable, tangible product out of a concept for a new sci-fi series I created. I'm open to feedback on the different story elements/characters/mythology I've got so far, but I want to ask you guys first, the people my project's targeted to: why LOST? Break it down for me, what's a few of the traits that make you tune back week-after-week? Is it a certain part of the mythology, is it Juliet's luscious... acting talents? Ben, maybe? Different themes? Any feedback from you would be INCREDIBLY helpful, especially now as the asswipes who come in beginning of the talkbacks just to troll have disappeared back into their caves. I want to get a little dialogue going is all, in the midst of ongoing theories about one of my favorite TV shows (I should say my only favorite left, as Battlestar is no more... Dammit). Again, thanks for humoring me, can't wait to pick your brains a bit.

I was drawn in at first by the idea of a group of people crashing on an island and having to survive. I had thought that it was just that. Then when I actually saw it I was amazed by sci-Fi stuff like the Smoke Monster and Walts powers whatever they were and other things. But then I was doublely amazed at how well the character driven flashbacks were done and really made us care about the characters. Later into the season I began to see that Darlton consistantly set things up and while not answering everything they would connect things and give us answers from time to time. But then it was the mysteries at the end of each episode that would make me want to come back.
I think that lost is popular because it has a little of everything. Action, Mystery, Romance, Sci-Fi, etc. But also is very good at making each episode great while still working towards an overall story and having things roughly planned out from the begining. -
Spot on, Pa...I would echo 4we8's thoughts. The fact that LOST doesn't get bogged down by the mythology and the sci-fi aspects of the show, that it is first and foremost a character driven show is what has made me such a fan. I'm certain when we all heard "Battlestar Galactica" was getting a reboot, we had visions of cylons and spaceships and cool shit blowing up...For some, that would have been enough and it would have been cancelled by Season 2. But because they invested in the CHARACTERS...and had smart, layered storytelling at it's core...it kept BSG from becoming a "Bionic Woman", "Buck Rogers" and "Knight Rider" failed reboot.
If I were you, I would create backstories upon backstories for ALL your central characters. If your story is smart...and the writing credible and engaging, people will be more likely to take it in no matter WHAT the subject matter.
The first thing I would do is figure out the show's END....then work backwards from there. Or else you'll end up with "Heroes"...which had a kick ass BEGINNING...but now is just languishing because not enough time was invested in where the show was HEADED after that first kick ass season. If your ending sucks...you will suffer the same fate.
Darlton swore up and down they had a great ending...that they were NOT 'making it up as they went'. But, this was hard to believe, especially late in Season 2 and early Season 3...the show lost huge momentum, and seemed to just be retelling the same stories over and over.
And it was...That's when Darlton realized LOST was NOT a show that could vamp forever...they had an ending...and they needed to start heading towards it. Once they got ABC to agree to let them end LOST in Season 6...they began marching headstrong towards that ending and they haven't let off the gas peddle yet.
If you must pitch this show...I wouldn't hesitate to let a network know how many seasons you see the show's story being told in...Had ABC not allowed Darlton to set their END DATE...Sawyer would still be locked up in that bear cage...and we would have not even met Keamy yet....and I think most of us would have moved on by now.
And...if this is fuckin George Lucas, trying to get ideas for his new live action "Star Wars" TV show. Lose words like "midichlorians"...and resist the temptation to make R2-D2 fly...when he hadn't flown anywhere in 3 movies before. Also...don't write ANY of the romantic scenes yourself. Call Lawrence Kasdan...he'll help you through those. Also...Yoda was a lot more believable when he was just a puppet. Good luck! -

George Lucas... ugh. A live-action Star Wars series retreading the SAME damn timeline as the movies... when there's so much more to tell on either end... it's gonna take some serious selling on his part to make me truly interested. Or hiring Kristen Bell and putting her in a gold bikini. 4we8: LOST's concept pulled you in, characters made you care, mysteries kept you coming back. That sum it up pretty well? Also, the setting things up and taking the time to pay them off, even if not right away... Funny thing is, a lot of people I know HATE Lost for that very reason, the piling on of mysteries... I love it, I love something that's been set up in season one that won't be paid off till season ___. Brody, I COMPLETELY agree with you on both backstory and end. For backstory, instead of just writing out the show bible, I decided to write a prequel web series, a way to introduce most of the major characters and set them up for the TV pilot/beginning of series. This is, by far, the most important thing I did, as it sets up themes and character arcs while remaining short and (relatively) cost-effective. I actually want to use that web series to sell a network on the show, ala Sanctuary (good example, don't particularly like the show). As far as the series itself, I have a four-season arc planned, with each season possessing its own general theme: S1- Change, S2- Choice, S3- Loss, S4- Redemption. Characters, what they decide, what they feel, consequences... that's gonna drive my show. I know the beginning, I know each season opener and finale, and most importantly I already know the end game, with each character's arc tied up (three years in the planning... I might've obsessed a bit). This actually leads me to my next question (and this is a bit more off-topic, but it's really gonna help): web series. What's your thoughts? Good, bad, blah? It'll probably be the way I introduce everything, and I'm trying to figure out how to make it work without being something like a webisode-series based on an existing franchise (ala LOST "Missing Pieces"). I appreciate the help so far.

I got involved with Lost during the 3rd season. Watched it some in the first 2 seasons, on and off, enough to know what was mostly going on and who the characters were. Somehow the 3rd season sucked me in, and I got involved in the big node 32774 talkback just to figure out what was going on and get some answers as we rewatched the previous 2 seasons via DVD. Key factors for me - the mystery of where were they and what was this island? Why were all these crazy things happening? The writing seemed sharp, and I cared about the characters. Season 2 frustrated me as it seemed the show was treading water, but when it looked like they might get off in Season 3, I started following more closely. So clever writing, and interesting characters.

Like, in the case of LOST, which are your favorite characters and why? Which ones AREN'T and why? 4we8, Brody and others (heh, Others...), I'd like your opinion on this, too.

The thing I love about Lost is that it has a great story but they understand that, without making the audience care about the characters, they would not have gotten anywhere. So yeah, to keep beating a dead horse, focus on what Brody told you. Also, cliff hanger endings are great.

1. Every Character In LOST Is FLAWED. How is this possible? How would I come to love a show that has such a huge collection of flawed characters? Well, first off...I didn't immediately KNOW how flawed they all were. LOST dealt me a deck of characters in the outset...But it wasn't until those cards slowly got turned over (via flashbacks) that I came to understand that each character in LOST is as fucked up as the one before. Had they STARTED OUT flawed...it would have taken away from the mystery, and possibly turned me OFF a character immediately. Now...in REVERSE...a character like Eko...who came off initially as a somewhat "good" or "unflawed" character...was revealed to be a son of a bitch in his flashbacks due to his circumstances. In order to survive...he became what he need to (like many of the LOST characters)...but was looking to the island as salvation...a chance to get back to what he 'wanted' to be...not what he was 'forced' to be. Too bad A.A. hated shooting on the island...I would have loved to see that juxtapostion play out further. Two other shows to look at for how to do "flawed, but relatable" characters : The Shield, The Wire.
2. Who Is Good? Who Is Evil? With all the flawed characters in LOST...you'd think it would be hard to find someone to 'root' for. That problem was solved in Season 2 with the introduction of one Benjiman Linus. In a sea of ambiguity and moral decay...Ben stands out on top of the shit heap. How clever to have such a creepy, vile villain who tells everyone who will listen, "I'm one of the 'good' guys"! Yer villain better be this entertaining...and one that the audience LOVES to hate, or you will be spinning your wheels.
3. Themes. LOST doesn't hang it's hat on ONE theme...it has enough running themes for 10 shows. 'Fate vs Destiny' would appear to be the top rung...followed by 'daddy issues'...and 'deception' running a close thrid. I would think your show better have multiple reoccuring themes to have any longevity.
4. Hot Chicks. Put some in there.
5. Plant Some 'Audience' Characters Into Your Storyline. In LOST's case...that would be Hurley and Sawyer. No matter how fucked up things become or confusing the shit gets...Hugo & James are always there to ask the burning questions that nobody else is asking. They are your audience's mouthpiece...and are crucial to 'grounding' the sci-fi aspects in reality. They also offer up most of the comic relief, which is also crucial to humanizing the show.
6. Cliffhangers. Know how to write them...know how to not over use them. Know that their resolutions cannot be 'empty payoffs'.
7. Finally...if LOST has taught you anything...It's zig when the audience thinks you're going to zag. Don't be afraid to kill major characters off...or change up the show's formula unexpectedly. Bottom line: Don't ever be predictable. Predictabilty is death.
And if this is Lucas...Suggestion: If "Trokenites" is 'code' for "Ewoks"...go back to the drawing board. -
I have to say that even though a good number of people hated season 2 I really enjoyed it. Season 2 had so many little character moments, even when it wasn't the main characters flashback episode. Thats kind of missing with the rush to the finish in season 4 & 5. But I still love these seasons but for their own reason.
I have always loved Hurley, but Sawyer has grown on me a lot. I love how Lost redeams a character and then like real life they fall again & again, but then they finally figure things out. I didn't mind Locke's button pushing, Jacks divorce, Charlie's baby napping or Sawyer stealing the guns because in real life people even after they become better fall back on old habbits or make incorrect paths.
I never really like Shannon, to much of a witch even with the looks. I didn't like Ana Lucia at first, but she grew on me as we got to know about her. One thing that bothered me was with Danielle. She was so awsome when we hardly saw her, but then last season she became part of the regular cast and she just blended into the wall. So many "Lost" opportunities. -
I actually think that using the web is a great way to get your product out there and to get feedback. Thats something that I've learned from creating Room23. So I would get a blog and post stuff and then find websites that pertain to what your doing and bring it up when its applicable. Get it out there and your audience will grow slowly.

There's really not much to add to what the guys above told you. Characters, SciFi, and mystery work better in this arc for me than anything I've seen. I came on during S1 reruns and have been hooked since.
If there is one thing to add I'd say do what draws people in. Would we have gotten so caught up in LOST if instead of a plane crash it was a ship sinking? Probably not, but then again it might depend on how it was told/shown. We are all drawn to the news when there's a plane that even has the possibility of crashing. Then again, the lost at sea aspect might draw someone in too. Seems plane crash is along a more "populist" angle.
Guys - that being said, I was talking to the work-wife the other day at the bar about all the wild theories we've had over the years. Some have panned out, some didn't, some may still. But if they didn't or don't that doesn't mean they were bad ideas.
So, my thought for what we do after LOST is for us to corrale some of the old ideas and see what we can come up with.
Just keep that in mind for now. -

All the 'prep research' in the world that you can do, will never re-create the 'lightning in a bottle' that is LOST. Remember....LOST was pitched as..."Some folks get stranded on a mysterious island". Period. That's ALL ABC wanted. A million little things had to fall into place (casting, writing, show runners, etc) to get LOST to where it is today.
And I'm not just pimping LOST....this goes for any show...from CSI to Friends. 99% of pilots fail. Any great show that made it past the pilot season had a whole lot of LUCK behind it...if not luck...it had a huge NAME behind it. THEN, it had to be GOOD.
Bottom line...Don't over think it...cuz in the end...no matter how good your idea is...it's still just a total crap shoot when it comes to getting it on the air. -
What do you think Christian means when he says "You have quite a journey ahead of you" to Sun? Is it a 'literal' journey, or a 'figurative' one?
Will Christian tell Sun how to get back to '77 for her reunion...or will he only tell her how she can get Jin back from '77 to 2007?
What will she have to do to get this done? What mechanism will it be? Back to the Frozen Donkey Wheel? The Orchid microwave teleporter? A flyin DeLorean?

My guess is that her journey will be to do something that brings the group back to 2007 and that it involves the Temple. Maybe she is even able to apear to jin somehow and that will somehow explain where alive Claire has been all this time. (In another timeperiod, but projecting herself into 2007 when locke saw her?)

I think there MUST be a mechanism for that somewhere on the island...perhaps the Temple...which is why Smokey likes to guard it. I wonder if drippy wet, backwards talkin Walt was able to access it in a similar fashion when he visited Shannon & Locke those few times. Perhaps cuz he was 'special' he didn't even need to be near the Temple to crack into the time pipeline.

A couple of things about Sawyer: 1) the first thing he said to Juliet when Jack, Kate, and Hurley came back was that they are "going to take away everything we have." Sawyer is loving his new Dharma life, and that's all he's interested in. 2) Despite his whole speech to jack about how he 'thinks' and 'solves problems', it was actually Juliet who came up with the plan about the submarine. So, clearly the leadership role has gone to Sawyer's head, he doesn't want to change anything, and he's not the great leader/thinker he'd like to be. It's going to get ugly soon...

I know a huge chunk of success in television tends to come from luck, but actually knowing the reasons why our favorite shows carry that title helps me a lot. And I agree, Sun and Cap'n are gonna be making a little trek to the Temple soon... and it's my belief we'll find Rose and Bernard there, safe and protected from the time jumps (I think the Temple exists out of the timestream, immune to jumping effects).

I don't know if I could handle more than one timeline... my brain just might explode. Thinking about the finale, two things: one, if a "major" death occurred, I want it to be Kate. I'm tired of the circular love triangles/rectangles, her constant manipulation of Jack AND Sawyer (especially now that Sawyer and Juliet be happy... bitch better back off...). I don't see her story going anywhere anymore, save the possibility she's pregnant with Jack Jr. (maybe she's the first pregnancy that goes south?). Second, I'm convinced the Incident's going to be time-related, and whatever Faraday was doing beginning of season will link up to Sun/Frank's "journey", either with them going back or our Losties going forward... which one is it, though? I LOVE the addition of time travel, and as long as they keep the rules they've established intact (NO parallels), I'm onboard.

Others survived after Keamy's team blew up the barracks and after the island moved...i.e.; the ones who FINISHED the runway from 2004-2007. I tend to think the show will wrap up ON the island in the Series finale...with a brief epilogue off the island to show you where everyone ended up.
But I don't think Craphole Island will still be standing by the end of it. All that moving and time shifting is breaking her back...I can see the whole island crumbling into the ocean...or perhaps getting blown sky high...with the help of "Jughead".

Well Darlton did say that the Triangle would not be resolved until the series finale. So Jack, Kate & Sawyer are pretty safe. I worry more for the frieghter 3 because at least one of them are bound to die before the season ends and then probably another one near the begining of season 6 since thats the usualy Lost patteren iof introducing a group of new characters and then killing them off by season end. They would have died sooner if not for last seasons writers strike.

And was still don't know Penny's true fate if they wait to reveal it at the end of the season that could be one of the deaths, if she did in fact die. Ben shows up to kill Penny....But she and baby Charlie are gone...the sailboat's been ransacked...obvious signs of struggle...So...while Ben is standing there taking it all in...Desmond arrives and begins beating Ben mercilessly...all while Ben tries to explain he had nothing to do with it, he was only coming to try and talk Des into coming to the island...man to man...
Des, of course doesn't want to hear that shit. Ben tries to tell Desmond that Papa Widmore must have found her...HIS people took her...Finally, Des is fed up and is about to kill Ben...
When the amazing expando night stick cracks Des across the temple...and Ben limps off.
Then he pours a Frosty on his head to cool off. -
Where is he lately? Is Cusick filming something else and only doing Lost part-time this year? He's only had one episode where he's featured prominently, and hasn't been in any as of late.

He could have been healed, but he lost his island mojo when Locke arrived, hence his not being healed from his tumor & having to get captured. He even said him self before turning the donkey wheel to Locke that Locke had taken his place or the power left him so to speak.
speaking of the Marina he was beat up, but I believe that he didn't have the sling on, which at the time made me wonder if the sling itself at least was an act to make whatever happen at the marina look worse.
As for the healing, he might have gotten his island mojo back upon returning, but it seemed to me that acording to Christian when he met Locke at the donkey Wheel that Ben was still in bad favor with Jacob since he turn the wheel instead of Locke. So Im thinking that Jacob/the island wouldn't heal Ben since Ben had been naughty once again. We all know that Jack didn't get heal from appendicitisis because he was being bad by trying to leave the island, instead he had to be operated on. So I think that you only get healed if you are in favor with the island and Ben wasn't. -
I would guess that its more of a story issue rather then an other job thats keeping Desmond away. Theres probably an important reason for Desmond waiting to return until later. I know that CB has a theory (Revenge), which could be true, but theres also a possibility of his returning for another reason.

Revenge or not, Penny's gotta be involved with getting Desmond back to the island. Nothing else would be a strong enough motivator for him. Whether she's killed (revenge) or in danger (blackmail), she's his lynchpin.

You and I are in complete disagreement on the island & Jacob with regards to the 'healing' properties. I don't think Jacob 'chooses' WHO and HOW people get healed...I think the island 'itself' handles all that...that if your 'bad' you get healed...and if your not you 'don't' sounds a little too capricious for me...BTW...Jack healed up pretty quick AFTER his ruptured appendix was removed. There's 'healing' and there's 'preventing'. Obviously the island didn't 'prevent' Ben's tumor...nor Jack's appendicitis. But they BOTH sure healed up quick AFTER those afflictions.
Either way...I don't think Jacob is as omnipotent as you are being led to believe.
Penny is the ONLY reason in the world Desmond would return to that crappy island...FOR her...The only other way I see that scenario going down...is if Ben shows up at the marina and finds Des unconscious on the boat...Penny & baby already gone...and the Widmore folk ambush Ben and THEY beat the shit outta him...But either way, Desmond will BLAME Ben for her disappearance, thus triggering his revenge motive for returning to the island.

Malcolm David Kelley spotted on this weeks episode of Saving Grace. He only had two small fleeting scenes, but he got to work with Laura San Giacomo in both and Holly Hunter in one. And though his scene was brief, his role is major - the son of condemned criminal Leon Cooley. Oh, and dig this Lost fans: Kelley's character's name is... Benjamin!

What I ment was that ether the island chooses or Jacob chooses or they are one and the same. Ether way there is constant talk about ether being on Jacobs good or bad list. Ben stoke about his getting sick because of falling out of favor and Locke taking his place. Even Rose spoke about Jack getting Apendicitis because he was doing something that he wasn't supposed to be doing. Most likely as you said the island & Jacob are separate entities. But one of them most likely the island is making these judgements. But that will probably not be revealed until the series finale.

During the period when I was banned from AICN I was wondering how Ben could kill Locke when it was impossible for Michael to kill himself. then I realized - because there wasn't anyone to bring Michael back once he was dead. Apparently the island knew that Locke would return, even after he died.

I think that it all had to do with when the island needed things to happen. Michael tried to kill himself and the island wouldn't let that happen, because it still needed him to do all that he did on the frieghter. When that was done it let Michael die like he wanted.
Christian in the cave told Locke that he was going to have to die. That was part of whatever it took to correct the island. Because the island still needed him Locke was resurected to do whatever he still needs to do. -
We've never been shown the island deciding NOT to 'heal' someone...Boone & The Marshall perhaps...but their injuries were mortal...As Ben's would have been...until Jacky Boy showed up. I just get the feeling the island has freaky healing powers that are in no way arbitrary...When Ben threw off that sling, all I could think of was him being 'healed' faster by the island...not him 'faking' his injury. What would be the point of pretending to be 'injured' to the rest of the 0-6? Sympathy?
Let's see how fast he 'heals' from that oar upside his head! -

I think maybe the "Incident" is when Daniel or someone messes with the Orchid and/or time and somehow transports all of 70s Dharma, including all people, to the early 90s, and then the purge. See, I can see Radzinsky shooting himself inside the Hatch in say, 2-3 years, but not in 20. There seems to be too much time to go by to squeeze it all in. It would be a neat tweak and also a very clever way for Darlton and the gang to bypass having to make up (or cover) 20 odd years of Dharma+island history. There just seems to be too much ground to cover. It also doesn't seem feasible that the narrative on LOST will give us a summary explanation of the Dharma time between 1977 and 1993 in fast-forward Digest form. Just doesn't fit LOST's style. Just a theory on execution.

Perhaps Faraday messes with time at the Orchid and the Incident is future-selves encountering their younger selves in the same space-area, just like that #15 (was it #15) rabbit did in the Orchid training video... time traveled onto itself... and Candle freaked out, saying "don't let them get near each other... keep them apart!!" as if they had a mini version of the later-to-come incident. Just a thought. -

I think it's more conviluted than Des returning for Penny. I hold onto the though that Penny spent all that time trying to find Des not for Des/love, but for the same reason her father was trying to find the island...whatever that is. She was so ready to never see him again when he showed up that Christmas eve, and before that too...although I can't remember the scene now. So he dumps her, goes off on a race around the world, etc. and she changes her mind? Wasn't she either engaged or about to be to someone else at some point?
The point is she moved on, but then she came back...for some reason we have not seen. We are led to believe it's love, but I don't believe it. She spent years and $$$$$ trying to find him for love? Sweet story, but I don't think so.
And I go back to the scene on the boat where she told Des he was lying. She was so "reluctantly" ready to not only search out Hawkings, but to coax him into it. There's something fishy there....sorry, fishy.

Yeah my guess is that to return theres going to be more flashes but in a strait line rather then jumping around. Which is how we are going to get Ben kidnapping Alex, Henry Gale stuff, The Purge, etc, etc.

My take on this is the island heals an invader. A virus would be an invader. A bullet hole. A pregnancy....but....
The island/smokie scanned Juliet and Eko. We saw that. So let's suppose Juliet got pregnant after that scan. Something would be in her that wasn't there before...an invader. Aaron was not an invader since he was there when Claire got there. That may or may not be the case with Ethan. I suspect it is the case.
So with Ben's tumor, maybe it was there when he got to the island. Tumors grow over time. Jack's appendix was there, but it inflamed. They took it out, he healed quickly.
But the island either can't or chooses not to heal everything. Time sickness is a prime example. -
I agree with you partially. I don't feel that Des will go back for Revenge, I feel that Penny will get converted to going back and convince him. But I also feel that she did at least partially search him out for love.

Our lostaways are in 77 and 07, exactly 15 years apart from the incident. Sun has a "journey". Faraday was seen at some point...we don't know exactly when...in the Orchid as they were drilling near the FDW.
We saw Candle freak when 2 bunnies came close to each other in an off-season video when 1 just appeared. Locke has disappeared sudenly to Richard and Jin to Danielle. So I think we can assume the 2nd bunny time traveled. If you can disappear can you not appear?
So my take on the incident is not that they try to get from 77 and 07 to 92, but that someone meets themselves in the process...the ultimate scifi paradox. -
I saw Slumdog earlier this year with a girl from work. There was a scene in it where the boy told the girl they'd have love and didn't need anything else. My friend busted out laughing and I slapped her on the thigh.
I hope there is love between Des and Penny, and I believe there at least was at some point. And let's say you are right...she still loves him deeply.
After 3 years at least of searching for him she finds him and other friends who tell her of the island. 3 years have passed since. Would something that fantastical stay on your mind? Would you not want to see it? Use it to your own advantage? Would you possibly have ulterior motives for getting there anyway you can?

With regard to Penny...Yer tellin me Ben makes a promise to Widmore that he was going to KILL Penny...and didn't at least TRY to carry out that promose at the marina? That's not very Ben-like if you ask me. Not to mention, Ben NEEDS Desmond back on the island NOT Penny...Remember...they ALL had to 'go back'. Killing (or attempting to kill Penny) killed two birds with one stone...It fullfils Ben's 'promise'...and it creates a reason why Des HAS to go back to the island.

Actually it was Mrs Hawkings that needed Des on the island, not Ben. Ben didn't even try to bring Des to the church and was supprised when he showed up. Ben probably did try. And maybe he succeded. But then again maybe Des took snuck up on Ben while Ben was trying to get Penny and took a page out of Sun's book and then they ran and Penny will convince Des to return?

the series revolved around their relationship. So just like the triangle I doubt that they would kill her off. But even if they do I won't leave the show for something like that.

I think Darlton said that Their relationship plays a huge part in the overall arc...It doesn't 'revolve' around it, IMO.
That said...i don't think they would kill Penny off yet either...But nothing good happened to her that night...nothing good at all. I think Ben tried but FAILED to fulfill his promise to Papa Widmore. We'll see. -
This whole saga has been depressing over the last day. I definitely think Mader was right to defend herself becasue of the whole age thing. Clearly Darlton just pulled an excuse out of their ass without having all the facts. But I have grown to despise Mader for the manner in which she did defend herself: a hissy fit on her public Facebook page slamming them as "liars." fuck her. What is she 13? Was this the proper avenue in which to clear this matter up when it was clearly a misunderstanding. Fucking bitch.

Glad they cleared it up...Cuz...I kinda would like to see Rebecca back on LOST again...Poor Dan Faraday! The producers pissed off his one true love! Lol!!

It may have sounded like she was vain but they weren't really accusing her of that in my opinion. They just said she didn't want to appear as 37 when she clearly wasn't. That's almost a compliment to her that she had the forsight to bring up a possible discrepancy. They weren't balming her for it in fact they took responsibility for the error in the same podcast. And she reacts like a petulant child callign them liars and not even gettign her facts straight in the process.
But whatever. Darlton will be apologizing again in another podcast today so hopefulyl we can drop it. What I was most annoyed at was the fucking jerks who came out of the woodwork on DarkUFO and other sights who basically used this as an excuse to lambast Darlton for every perceived continuity gaff and indeed every other grievance they've had with the producers of the show. It was ugly and wish a pox on their houses. -
Wow. Well...There is some fault in keeping the actors constantly 'in the dark' on their character's arc. I mean...when they were shooting the scene when Ben started rattling off all of Charlotte's vital statistics...Had rebecca known her character was going to be depicted as a small girl in 1974...she may have suggested..."Um, guys...doin some math here...wouldn't we wanna say Charlotte was born in 1972...rather than 1979?"...
That's what Darlton gets! Lol!! They were originally casting for an older American actress to play the part of Charlotte...but the fell in love with the younger Mader at her audition...and even let her keep her accent!
I do NOT envy Gregg Nations' job at all...Keeping track of all the massive LOST continuity would be a nightmare. Any other show would have gotten away with it...But not us nit-picky LOST fans!
My biggest complaint...That John never 'thanked' Walt for saving him in the Purge Pit. The dude was done...he was about to put a gun in his mouth and end it...and there he was...standing on a NYC street corner talking to the kid who pulled him up outta that grave...and not even a simple "Thanks, Walt?" ...That's my only gripe about this season so far...this Mader age shit pales in comparison to glossing over that moment. -
Why would he thank Walt? It was obviously not the real Walt that saved him from the pit. John was probably smart enough to figure that one out.

Wouldn't John at least say "Thanks" to see Walt's reaction? I'm sure it wasn't the REAL Walt either...But wouldn't John be at least 'curious' if it was? If it was...at least he 'thanked' Walt for saving him...and if it wasn't...at least he'd have confirmed it was 'Jacob' posing as Walt. It couldn't have hurt to say it either way.
But leaving it as nebulas as "Well...John knew it wasn't Walt...that why he didn't mention it" is lazy at best. -
He doesn't need any confirmation or proof to do the most horrific of actions. And who's to say that Walt didn't already explain his nature to John and we didn't see it? It wouldn't be the first time John, or any other Lostie for that matter, withheld critical information from the other survivors.

Perhaps Darlton wrote out the storyline becasue the kid can't act woth a crap. The last two scenes with him have been painful, which explains his inability to get anyhting except nonspeaking Tysons comemrcials for acting gigs.

I know that thing was still airing up until about Season 2....then suddenly the ads were pulled, never to be seen again. Guarantee you they'd STILL be running them if she didn't buy her way out of the contract she signed with them. How embarrassing!

missed everyone, missed theorizing on the last episode. i just got back from vegas yesterday, and took a 10 hour coma-sleep upon return. to make the recovery even worse, after getting back from vegas tired and hungover on monday morning, i had to sit through jury duty, loopy in the courtroom, thankfully got dismissed. now i can enjoy the rest of my spring break finally. can't wait for the new episode on wednesday. i have to catch up on all the back posts now

Lately I've been movin around so much, they haven't pegged me again in a few years. Ahhhhhhh....civic duty. -

(Not saying that Darlton actutualy used that scene to set that up) But imagine Walt and the group being surrounded by Widmore men and suddenly Walts eyes start to glow and he rises up in the air and suddenly calls a bunch of boars, birds & polar bears to come and attack them. Then Walt make the earth shake to swallow Widmore & him Men up. That would be awsome! It would never happen, but it would be awsome.

whoopsie. That just makes me think they didn't know what they were doing with the Charlotte character when they hired her. They should have gotten someone older in the first place. I thought that was the role Kristen Bell was up for and she's born in 1980. How far ahead don't they plan?
I'd love to see more Walt but I don't see how he'll fit in. This season is confusing enough. I doubt if we'll have anyone else coming to the island now. It's already freakin' chaos. I mean I'm having a hard enough time following the show, and then I read other peoples comments and recaps I find that a lot of people are more confused than me. I really can't guess at where they're going now that they jumped three years ahead in everyone's personal stories. -
and we watched the movie THE GAME and half of SNOW DOGS and then they let us go home. Now I'm safe for 3 years. :D

Actually Desmond still has to come back. Walt's story may be done, but by the way Darlton talk it sounds like they might have a supprise up their sleaves. Actually I don't feel that any of us are confused here. We just like to speculate about what will come. I have faith that everything will be wrapped up nicely.

Yes exactly. Begining of next season would be the perfect time to bring him back. Won't have the growth problem. My guess this season will wrap up time travel and the finale will be Widmore arriving on the island. Then Season 6 with be the battle for the island and somehow Walt will get back and do whatever he needs to do.

i could see walt getting back to the island as well as widmore in the season finale, or possibly getting back to the island in the season 6 premeire, which would probably been an even cooler way to do it- way more excitement to payoff for the anticipation of the start of the final season. he HAS to get back on the island, and i totally think darlton is being sketchy about his return- totally their style i was excused yesterday from jury duty through some combination of the following two factors: (A) when the judge asked if i had ever been the victim of a crime, i told the judge that while i had been a youth counselor in a treatment center for troubled adolescents, i was assaulted multiple times, and had my nose broken twice. she asked if i was happy with the way the court handled the matter, and i told her, no i think they protected the teens who did it, i thought more should have been done. (B) when i told the judge that my cousin is a detective, i also said that i believed the testimony of cops more than civilians, and felt them to be more credible witnesses. BOOM, dismissed!

See a few people are really against a loop/ dark tower type ending. I still have a feeling that's how it well end, but will see next year.
No matter what the ending it's clearly going to be a very polarizing one, if not the biggest in recent TV history.
The closer I get to it the less I want all/ most of the mysteries solved. -
I'm enjoying the jury duty stories. I got summoned to appear at Federal Court for jury duty, 2 hours away. They wanted me for a week, and they were giving hotel $. Not very great if you're a high school teacher and coach like me. I don't mind missing classes, but during your sports season? Anyway, on Friday before my jury week I called down and they said my case was cancelled - never had to report and serve. Surprised how easy it is for some of you to get dismissed from jury duty. A coworker of mine got seated for federal court, even though she knew the accused and worked with his father-in-law! No one seemed to mind! And after she helped convict the guy (drunken disturbance at a Native American casino = federal case) he stopped by her work place to quiz her (in a non-threatening way) as to why the jury convicted him!

I fail to see how the loop-ending really fits into the story of Lost, considering what we know now (upcoming revelations may of course change this). I mean, what would it add to the show that Jack ends with waking up in the jungle? It's not like it resolves ANY of the mysteries/unanswered questions. It's just an ending, just as "riding into the sunset" is an ending. It does really say anything about how the plot will be resolved. Furthermore, it would negate all the flashbacks too, wouldn't it? If anyone's got any good theories of why it's logical that the show ends in a loop, I'd love to hear them. For me, if they resolve the ending anywhere close to the quality of what was done on BSG, I'll be happy. That ending made me cry. There, I said it.

Your points re loop ending are valid, am not hoping for it either but it's still a decent chance. The only rationale is that it's required to ensure some balance, to prevent something from happening, a much bigger version of entering the numbers every 108 minutes.

I'm going to talk about something(s) we know that's coming up if you read spoilers. So look away now if you don't.
I think the upcoming major event with a major cast member will be Sun's death. I base this on mainly 2 things. 1 - Jin telling Locke not to tell her he's alive. 2 - The wedding spoiler.
If there is to be a wedding as a flashback, and if it's Jin and Sun, that probably means a jin/Sun centric episode....especially if they are returning to that format. If that's late in the season or even in the season finale, it should be one of the 2 of them.
We've speculated differring reasons for why some are in 77 while others are in 07. (BTW - thanks for correcting me on the purge/incident dates, Cheif...or was it Node). As Ben is one of the ones in 07, my take is the island may have taken the ones it wanted/needed in 77 and left the others to fend for themselves. Even Locke, because Claire said don't bring "him" back. We thought it was Aaron she was talking about, but maybe not.
So now Sun is trying to get back to 77, but the island didn't take her back there in the first place. Therefore, I think she dies.
That's my take, anyway. -
I think the fact that they showed the Pilot-like opening in 316 is an indication that the finale will not be a loop. But I'm not against a loop and don't understand what's so bad about it. I'd prefer that to some bogus maudlin happy ending for everyone.

in LOST...I can assure you. But there will be some. Remember back in Season 1 & 2...and even when the 0-6 reunited with their families on the tarmac...The show used to end with a montage every other episode with slow motion hugging...Just Michael Giacchino's subtle score can be heard....
I think that's how LOST will end.
And just like when the 0-6 landed on that tarmac...some people will have people to hug...and some won't. Some will just have to hug each other.
So...basically...it's gonna end like the Mary Tyler Moore Show. Big group hugs...followed by one final....

it's not that there something especially bad about a loop ending (maybe except that it is sort of a arthouse stock ending, ala "it was all a dream"), it's just that it doesn't explain anything about the show. It's just an arbitrary gimmick. Give me good reasons why a loop ending would be a nice wrap up for Lost, and I might reconsider.

I am with you that it would be a bit gimmicky but a loop ending doesn't have to mean nothing will be explained. It could explain everything or everything could be explained before the loop.
I think a lot of fans of this show need to reconcile themselves with the fact that they are not going to get all the answers. Shows that try to provide all the answers invariably suck anyway. -

Probably MORE than a few. The finale win not tie up everything. But a loop sucks because there is no resolution...no FINAL outcome. Are these people BETTER or WORSE off than when the show began?
If the answer is..."We'll never find out, cuz it's just starting over again"...That would disappoint many....myself included. I would feel cheated. -

Season 6 will be all about piecing all the clues together to stop the incident. I think Ben, Hawking, Alpert are already a big part of that. Then a big happy ending as the time loop is broken. -

That's just my game. I like that theory. It's similar to Jeff Jensen's mirror theory about how seasons and 3 and 4 mirror each, seasons 2 and 5 mirror each other, and that season 6 will mirror season 1 with the survivors replaying the original crash aftermath in order to do things "right" this time. Or something.

So... Jin and others come out as 70 year olds from the temple and they are the Others who've been hiding in the temple for fear of interfering with history? Some people are saying the temple sits 'outside of time', so its not affected by the island time jumps. So they learned their lesson of messing with history and this third time out they "sit it out" in the temple. that would be gnarly as hell if we learned that Alpert, Ben, Widmore, Ms. Hawking and even Jacob answer to these Elder Others who turn out to be 70 year old Jin, Jack, Kate, etc. -

So maybe Smokie scans people, scans their lives, and see's how many times they've gone through the time loop, and whether they've interfered with history, such as Juliet. When people have interfered with course correction/time/history, Smokie tries to drag that person into the outside-of-time temple, such as Locke and Montaud(sp). If Smokie can't get that person into the Temple, or the person is unrepentant, Smokie kills them, or possesses someone (the sickness) to take them out. -

Okay, so everyone is talking about the major character that is dying this season. EW said that it was a fan favorite, and my theory is that Hurley will be the one to die because he really doesn't add anything to the show anymore, but he will always be my favorite character.
And about Sun not traveling back, I think it's because she was the only one from the oceanic six not to have direct contact with Locke when he was off the island. Everyone always said Locke was special. And now I think her journey will be to get everyone back to the present. I can't wait for her and Jin's reunion!
