Learn Which SNL Player Hosts May’s 2009 MTV Movie Awards!!
I am – Hercules!!
More bad news for the multitudes who insist “Saturday Night Live” hasn’t been funny in years.
Andy Samberg is the latest SNL player to host the MTV Movie Awards, still one of the most-watched pieces of programming on the channel.
SNL alumnus Dennis Miller was the show’s first host in 1992. Other SNL vets who have hosted include Eddie Murphy (1993), Jon Lovitz (1995), Ben Stiller & Janeane Garofalo (1996), Jimmy Fallon (2001 & 2005), Sarah Silverman (2007) and Mike Myers (1997 & 2008).
Airdate for the special is May 31.

Jizzed in my pants!
-
They should rename it to EmpTiVEE!
-
samburg sounds like a great choice for this. I feel like he has been the only funniest thing on SNL lately since it feels like they decided to almost exclusively do political humor. I loved the Natalie Portman gangsta rap video and just recently saw the new video for I'm On A Boat. That and I can't wait to see The Dark Knight win best movie. It will at least get the credit it deserves from a little cable show that is on a channel that continues to call itself music television but clearly isn't anymore.
-
In his pants.
-
Dan Akroyd hosted the very first Mtv Video Music Awards with Bette Midler in 1984.
-
You confuse us thinking the show is not funny with not thinking the cast members aren't funny. Don't you think it's odd that the most recent wave of cast members to move on to bigger and better things are actually producing work that is FAR better than anything they've done on SNL and more popular as well?
-
where has the snl talkbacks been? been missing like every other week............just saying
-
sounds cool i guess, i mean i'd like it and all if the MTV awards were so damn lame now. I used to love them but now with their awards presented by orbitz and stage setup so ridiculous it looks like the kids choice awards. They need to just put it at the metropolitan opera house or something. Make it a big deal, and not so much an advertisement. They can still let tila tequila present and the jonas brothers or some similar nonsense play music.
-
Does MTV still have the balls to present the VMAs? Seriously,I've scrolled through 46 hours of MTV programming without seeing anything related to music....or videos.
-
the first one at least, the everything else has been kind of overkill. but still makes me laugh.
-
Can't forget Garth playing drums with U2 to "Even Better Than the Real Thing"
-
I shit MTV.
-
Is that show still on?
-
You mean like Jimmy Fallon?
-
You know he's gonna sing that jizzed in my pants song.
-
Besides "Who wants to date my daughter" and "Johnny Jackass does some stupid ass shit"
-
...talking to animals.
Say hello to your mother for me. -
"Say hi to your mom for me, ok?"
-
With all of the SNL focused posts on this tie, I have to assume that Lorne Michaels / NBC are sponsors just like Amazon.com. This site is getting worse all of the time.
-
And Kelly Clarkson's got some thick legs.
-
I hope he brings back that character. :) And I agree with lockesbrokenleg that it's the only thing worth watching anymore...I hate this reality crap. Unless they did "The '80s House", I'd have no reason to watch except for the Movie Awards. Oh, and I've been laughing over the album "Incredibad" for the last few days. "Skiddly-whoaaa!"
-
anyone else find that a bit odd?
-
I'm sure he'll manage just fine...IF they had abrain- they'd get get fallon to host- maybe someone would watch his new show then
-
No surprise there. How is she afforded the recognition as an SNL vet? She was fired after one season because only one of the sketches she wrote survived to dress rehearsal, and none aired. Did she just appear in a few sketches? Is that all it takes to be an SNL vet?
Useless cow. -
Seriously, why are SNL and the MTV Movie Awards being covered by AICN? What a complete waste of time. There's nothing cool or interesting about either. Why not focus on something visitors to this site would actually give a damn about?
-
Not that I will be watching this anyway. Honestly I think the last time I saw this show was when Ben Stiller and Janeane Garofolo hosted it. Need I say more?
-
When I think of some of the cast members, they're all great in other things...Sudeikis, Hader, Forte, Poehler
-
Of utter irrelevance!
-
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
-
youtube search "on a boat", and laugh. Samberg usually is a tool, but now and then he hits one over the fence.
-
Like the "Revenge of the Sith" skit in '05 where Fallon was Anakin? I thought that was funny. Oh and agree with JeffMan on Kelly Clarkson. I would tear that big ass UP. To quote Spinal Tap: "The bigger the cushion/the sweeter the pushin'"
-
being in canada i can only ever watch 1/2 of the videos posted. Im still wondering if MTV will ever actually play music again...
-
It means he and his best gayfriend Justin Timberlake will hijack the show with their Dick In A Box bullshit.
-
The only thing the VMAs are good for these days is for a bunch of celebrities to embarrass themselves on national TV in front of a TV audience of hundreds of viewers. If Sandberg's family are a Neilson family, they can probably double the ratings of last year's VMAs. Talk about an awards show that tries to be current and cutting edge but only comes aross as tired and uninspired. Maybe that's why Mike Meyers hosted it last year.
-
Got it. When a cast member hosts the MTV Movie Awards, Saturday Night Live is funny again. MTV is the barometer of what's funny on SNL. And Andy Samberg isn't even the best cat member on SNL. Yeah, Dick In The Box. Woo-hoo. Was funny for a few days years ago. Not to mention that Janeane Garofalo and Sarah Silverman were such memeorable SNL cast members. Come on, Herc. You can be better than this.
-
Oooh burn!
-
More bad news: MTV is a dinosaur and SNL is a corrosive corpse sinking into quicksand.
-
It's like the exact opposite of chocolate and peanut butter.
-
Pro - Andy Samberg rules music parody (Jizz in my pants, Iran so far, Dick in a box, Lazy Sunday)
Con - The MTV movie awards have sucked since they stopped reenacting the nominees
I would say good for Andy, but this is so irrelevant that it shouldn't impact his career much either way. -
What is the point of this, exactly?
-
They should really call it RTV for all those 24-hour crappy reality shows they keep putting on there. When was the last time anybody saw a music video on that channel? Same goes for VH1...they only show videos for two hours a day! No wonder I go see music videos on demand on cable.
-
Hopefully this can recapture some of the fun this show used to have. I loved Ben Stiller way back in the Lost World sketch. "What did we learn here?" "Something about dinosaurs?" "Yeah, something about dinosaurs." I still say that after watching some completely pointless...
