Learn Which SNL Player Hosts May’s 2009 MTV Movie Awards!!

Published at:  Mar 16, 2009 10:39:37 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

More bad news for the multitudes who insist “Saturday Night Live” hasn’t been funny in years.

Andy Samberg is the latest SNL player to host the MTV Movie Awards, still one of the most-watched pieces of programming on the channel.

SNL alumnus Dennis Miller was the show’s first host in 1992. Other SNL vets who have hosted include Eddie Murphy (1993), Jon Lovitz (1995), Ben Stiller & Janeane Garofalo (1996), Jimmy Fallon (2001 & 2005), Sarah Silverman (2007) and Mike Myers (1997 & 2008).

Airdate for the special is May 31.

kinda can't wait to see this

    by castaway

samburg sounds like a great choice for this. I feel like he has been the only funniest thing on SNL lately since it feels like they decided to almost exclusively do political humor. I loved the Natalie Portman gangsta rap video and just recently saw the new video for I'm On A Boat. That and I can't wait to see The Dark Knight win best movie. It will at least get the credit it deserves from a little cable show that is on a channel that continues to call itself music television but clearly isn't anymore.

    Herc, you confuse...

    by the funketeer

You confuse us thinking the show is not funny with not thinking the cast members aren't funny. Don't you think it's odd that the most recent wave of cast members to move on to bigger and better things are actually producing work that is FAR better than anything they've done on SNL and more popular as well?

    by timahh

sounds cool i guess, i mean i'd like it and all if the MTV awards were so damn lame now. I used to love them but now with their awards presented by orbitz and stage setup so ridiculous it looks like the kids choice awards. They need to just put it at the metropolitan opera house or something. Make it a big deal, and not so much an advertisement. They can still let tila tequila present and the jonas brothers or some similar nonsense play music.

    Sara Silverman continues to suck

    by v'shael

No surprise there. How is she afforded the recognition as an SNL vet? She was fired after one season because only one of the sketches she wrote survived to dress rehearsal, and none aired. Did she just appear in a few sketches? Is that all it takes to be an SNL vet?

    Useless cow.

The only thing the VMAs are good for these days

    by rob0729

The only thing the VMAs are good for these days is for a bunch of celebrities to embarrass themselves on national TV in front of a TV audience of hundreds of viewers. If Sandberg's family are a Neilson family, they can probably double the ratings of last year's VMAs. Talk about an awards show that tries to be current and cutting edge but only comes aross as tired and uninspired. Maybe that's why Mike Meyers hosted it last year.

MTV Movie Awards means SNL is funny?

    by heckles

Got it. When a cast member hosts the MTV Movie Awards, Saturday Night Live is funny again. MTV is the barometer of what's funny on SNL. And Andy Samberg isn't even the best cat member on SNL. Yeah, Dick In The Box. Woo-hoo. Was funny for a few days years ago. Not to mention that Janeane Garofalo and Sarah Silverman were such memeorable SNL cast members. Come on, Herc. You can be better than this.

    Pros and cons

    by mc satan

Pro - Andy Samberg rules music parody (Jizz in my pants, Iran so far, Dick in a box, Lazy Sunday)
Con - The MTV movie awards have sucked since they stopped reenacting the nominees

I would say good for Andy, but this is so irrelevant that it shouldn't impact his career much either way.

MTV = (No) Music To View

    by mrmysteryguest

They should really call it RTV for all those 24-hour crappy reality shows they keep putting on there. When was the last time anybody saw a music video on that channel? Same goes for VH1...they only show videos for two hours a day! No wonder I go see music videos on demand on cable.

    Good Choice...

    by symon

Hopefully this can recapture some of the fun this show used to have. I loved Ben Stiller way back in the Lost World sketch. "What did we learn here?" "Something about dinosaurs?" "Yeah, something about dinosaurs." I still say that after watching some completely pointless...
