'Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, WOW! The Live Action Japanese SPIDER-MAN Series Swings Onto Embeds Everywhere!!

Published at:  Mar 16, 2009 12:12:55 PM CDT

Merrick here...

This news was initially posted a week or two ago in Scott Green's anime column (HERE). But...based on e-mails we've been receiving...many readers seem to have missed it, so we wanted to call this to your attention once more.

For many years, a TV series commonly and simply referred to as "JAPANESE SPIDER-MAN" could chiefly be found for download on the Net (provided you knew where to look & had the patience to endure the slow transfer), through back-alley video dealers, etc.

Now, while everyone's waiting for SPIDER-MAN 4 to get its shit together, Marvel is hosting subtitled, streaming feeds of JAPANESE SPIDER-MAN on its website. Looks like an installment a week, perhaps?

You can see the currently posted episodes (eps 1 and 2 of the series) via the embeds below, which originate HERE.

This version of the famous web-slinging hero was part of a deal that Marvel made with Toei, namely that for a four-year period, Toei could use Marvel's characters in any way they saw fit.

...says THIS WIKI ENTRY.

In short: this is Spider-Man by way of all things that make Japanese entertainment great: men-in-suit monsters, flying techno-mega-fortress-robot-things, and lines like "lately there's been a lot of activity from a group that's secretly invading the Earth". This is essentially SPIDER-MAN by way of POWER RANGERS.

So, have fun with this! For my money, even though this clearly isn't true to SPIDER-MAN's characters and mythology, this is much more entertaining than anything we got in SPIDER-MAN 3.

Take a look...

And a special shout out to The Reluctant Austinite for making sure we knew...

Reminds me of a set of asian power rangers knock offs i saw in a market one day, where the packaging advertised the contents as Sabans Power Rangers, and featured Spiderman, the Hulk, Superman and some kind of lion headed man thing. You know, the ones that are made from lead paint and blades.

you claim to want geektastic projects that are true to their origins, but you've left watchmen floundering. you bitch and moan about spiderman 3, but where's your outrage over fantastic four? spiderman 3 was way more entertaining and true to it's origins than either of the fantastic four films. sam raimi has made three classic superhero films and really upped the ante for all filmmakers dipping into this realm. you fanboys are just such a whiny, pitiful bunch. even when you get cinema gold, you still find something to complain about. you should try focusing on the things that do work in these films, and not just dwell on the negative. as a filmmaker, i wouldn't want to please any of you bitches. you have no loyalty and no respect. you say you want one thing, and when you get it (whatever you want to say about watchmen, it's a monumental achievement in comic cinema), you just let it die. you guys are supposed to be this all mighty force in the new cinema, but you can't even mobilize strong support for films. meanwhile, paul blart mall cop and madea fans mobilized en masse to make their films hits. and, those films aren't even in the same class as watchmen. you petty dumb fanboys. you can sit their and complain about watchmen and spiderman 3, but you have nothing to say about the REAL crap films that are flooding the theatres right now. i really hate what i'm seeing from this community. i used to love coming to this site, now it's a chore to have wade through all your petty tired nit picking of films that don't deserve it, while allowing the real culprits to go free. you guys have no taste. no respect. no loyalty. and, you just complain all the time. phew. glad i got that off my chest...

I just shit myself (and not the good way Harry does everytime he sees a Sam Raimi or Michael Bay film). I actually shit myself in anger. Ridiculous...

I feel your pain on this issue. For all the bitching fanboys do, they generally fail to support stuff made specifically for them that tries to please them. "Paul Blart" and "Madea" flicks are made for people who actually BUY TICKETS. They actually GO TO THE MULTIPLEX. Fanboys tend to stay home more often with their big screen TV and download bootlegs of the new movies made for them until the Blu-ray comes out. Then they burn a copy of that. They generally say, "I'm not gonna pay for it if it sucks." But they just assume it's gonna suck, because generally they've already stollen a copy before they know.

Holy mother of Jebus Creez! Was that a trip or WHAT?!?! Very bizarre. I'm watching it and thinking how anyone could do that. Even on a small budget there is no excuse for that. Weird shit indeed.

TJ Hooker's soundtrack to them to whole other over though. John Carpenter was always big on that sound too. Some evil dude steps into view in the background, and cue the music..BWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Yes, but did Spidey nail Sailor Moon?

    by victor82

I'm buying the DVD's if and only if Nippon Spider Man beats the shit out of Tuxedo Kamen and gives Usagi (Sailor Moon to the uninitiated) a sound rogering up the Hershey Expressway.

No assfucking of Sailor Moon, no purchase Japanese Spiderman. I can spend my time in the theater watching New York be destroyed by Dr. Manhattan's Mighty Schmeckel instead of watching this shit.

And yes, Rusty StarDust is absolutely right. The Fanboy Community is letting Watchmen Die. Of course, the sex isn't the only reason. The movie is a bold statement, and as faithful as a movie can be to the graphic novel. That's part of the problem.

Too many people go into the film wondering why Nixon is still President. Only the Chihuahua movie gets repeat business. Watchmen tries to make you think. Chihuahua doesn't.

    by sal_bando

---What the fuck you are having Harold WANTS some of it--it's NO ONE'S duty to sit and make Watchmen a GAzillion Buckywucky hit. It AIN'T Happening. It's BORING. It's TOO LONG. It's got a Guy in a fucking Owl Suit making a napaulm Spooge in the night sky over NYC. It's got Leather chickie doing her Anna-Frida L-I-N-E R-E-A-D-I-N-G best while being mad and pissy on Mars. It's got the Jolly Green Giant's Silver surfer Gigantic PeckerSmurf cousin running around knocking off the Cong and Tanks and Dirty Harry. It's got the Worst fucking Nixon rendition possible. It's got No Giant Robots in it and it has the fucking Village People starring as Ozzy and Comedian and then you sit there and watch some more and you have this really Craptastic series of big blue smurfberry crunch explosions at the end of the movie in all these big cities all over. Gee Willikers it's a James Bond Villain actually doing his thing and getting away w/ it. I didn't even get to Tony the fucked up Tiger there. What the FUCK was THAT-?! The best parts were Komedian as Black Dog Man and watching that nutjob in the Noose there threatoning Komedian. Besides that I donno. You tell me. Don't you think we get the movies we deserve? I do too-that's why we're allllllllllll eagerly awaiting some more Giant Robots this summer, and know that there will be yet More Baydom to come in the coming years. You will be watching them too.

hated Spiderman 3 - maybe I just didn't notice all the apparently glaringly obvious plotholes, canon-raping, clunky one-liners and choreographed missteps that everybody else hated so much - even though in the real world nobody hated the movie, as it cleaned up more than the moms of most of the basement lichen who hang around this site who should be at work. Still, Power Rangers- Spiderman sounds kinda - KINDA like dorky fun, I'll have to check it out. I mean how bad can it be, especially taking into consideration the inescapable fact that now, more than ever, all your base belong to us.

Got the same feelings myself. Tore 'em a new one yesterday on the site. If anime is the gold standard for geek cinema, then there is no hope for anything above a third grade comprehension level. No more Watchmen for the geeks; even they are too stupid to make movies for. No studio will take a chance again. My Pretty Pony, the Movie! coming soon.

"Boring". "Slow". Extraneous comments about sponges.

Americans are too stupid for intelligent movies. Don't worry, they won't make another intelligent movie for this market again. Behold the "Fathom" movie, coming right up. Tits and ass and no dialog. BFR. Nothing more challenging than a mental peanut butter sandwich.

It seems haters of Watchmen are...

    by anakinsdiapers

..are living by the mantra, "perception is reality". If you constantly claim something is true, people tend to believe it, whether it's fact or not. Did Watchmen drop 68% the second week? Yes it did. But how can any logical thinking individual claim an R rated 3 hour long movie starring relative unknowns making 86 million in two weeks is a failure is beyond me. The movie's rating means a limited audience, and it's length means limied showings. It will break 100 million domestically. Add international sales and the DVD market and what you have is bank. The suits at Warner Brothers can't be disapointed. They may even green light other Rated R superhero movies...as long as it's 90 mintes long.
