The EASTWICK Pilot Has Hired Its Final Witch!!

Published at:  Mar 09, 2009 9:19:01 PM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

“X-Men” icon Rebecca Romijn (“Ugly Betty”) will star in ABC’s “Eastwick” pilot alongside Lindsay Price (“Lipstick Jungle”) and Jaime Ray Newman (who played the dean's young wife on “Veronica Mars”).

Maggie Friedman, a veteran of “Dawson’s Creek,” “Wasteland,” “Once & Again,” “Jack & Bobby” and “Related,” wrote the pilot, based on John Updike’s novel about a trio of young women seduced by Satan.

The same book, of course, formed the basis of a 1987 George Miller movie starring Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Susan Sarandon and Cher.

David Nutter, who has directed pilots for everything from “Roswell,” “Dark Angel,” “Millennium” and “The Mentalist” to “Smallville,” “Supernatural,” “Tarzan,” “Without A Trace,” “Jack & Bobby,” “Traveler,” “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” and “Dr.Vegas,” directs the “Eastwick” pilot.

This is TV's second crack at pilot based on "The Witches of Eastwick." In 1992, writer-producers Carlton Cuse and Jeffrey Boam mounted an NBC version starring Catherine Mary Stewart, Julia Campbell, Ally Walker and Michael Siberri.

    Rebecca Romijn? Really?

    by wintocha67

Was her name always spelled like that because I've always pronounced it Romaine, which is supposedly the correct pronunciation, but huh, that's not how I've seen it spelled before, is it?

    Regarding the casting of Satan...

    by prof. pop-cult

Have they cast Satan yet, and will he even appear in the pilot? I could see this show holding off the casting of the role until later, like, have Satan appear in the season finale.

    Agreed on the Charmed comparison....

    by wowsah156

This has a high crapness probability. It might end up like a cross between Charmed and Sex in the City. When in reality we has fans and (paying) consumers we would want it has a cross between American Gothic (again Gary coles stuff) the godlike Carnivale.
And if they use magic it has to be shown in a scary light. Not that buffy and charmed type frivolity. I want to see their blood seep through their skin and eyes when they do magic or call the Satan.
Also agree that Gary Cole would be my automatic choice for Satan (hes very good at doing "evil bastard") but i think Clancy Brown would make an awesome Satan. I would watch the show just to see Brown totally own the scenes and act the women off the screen.

    Yet another...

    by tophat

...TV show exploring the undeniable truth that MEN are the cause of all evil. Sure, women have free will just like everyone else, but MEN force them to be bad. If MEN weren't so devilishly manipulative, women would have happier lives and treat everyone around them better. But, women are not victims! Oh no. They decide to follow douche bags and dismiss nice guys as being boring then turn around and blame the douche bags for making them do bad things and giving themselves a pat on the back for being strong and independent only to turn right back around again and go after yet another douche bag, all on their own accord. That's why women will defeat MEN and rule the world. This show will prove this. You'll see. After women cast the devil(MEN) back to Hell, they will then be able to do some good for our society. Like, buy grossly expensive designer clothes and shoes, go out to clubs and bars, learn how to pole dance, and become somthing really important, like a real estate agent...
