vanity shit (zip ratings). CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM (much of it improvised) is the funniest sitcom on TV. Larry Richards just may lock Micheal Richards into a telephone booth with an unconstrained Mr. T. Great ensemble cast (the Jewish fraternity), superior to the network excrement.

Seinfeld is hands-down the funniest thing ever created, in my opinion. Arrested Development comes close, but Seinfeld tickles my funny bone in a way that nothing ever has before or after the series' historic run. I quite like Curb Your Enthusiasm, too, which is hilarious in all sorts of good ways. So this is sounding pretty awesome to me.

I'll explain why "JUMP? MEET SHARK" is so bad

    by juntmonkey

    "Splash!"

    1) "Jumped the Shark" is an awful and worthless phrase...the concept is stupid and it's incredibly simplistic and pedestrian to think that nearly every show has a DEFINITIVE moment that you can point to where things went downhill.

    2) The phrase is incredibly overused, to the point where even saying "I think 'Jumped the Shark' has Jumped the Shark" is bad. Admittedly, the overuse was more prevalent in the mid-2000s and has calmed down somewhat from what I've seen.

    3) This particular storyline will probably be good and is essentially a sequel, 10 years later, to one of the greatest and most popular shows ever - so no "shark jumping" applies.

    4) Riley Martin thinks he is being clever by switching the phrase around, and as pointed out by Willips Brighton in his seminal post, the phrase might as well be on a "cool and ironic" Hot Topic t-shirt.

    5) "Splash!"

This sounds really cool, and Seinfeld is still one of (if not THE) best sitcoms of all time. That said, Jerry should choke on his money and die. I want to get SUPER rich so I can buy a fleet of exotic porches, marry a scheming gold-digger, hire 12 nannies to watch my 4 kids who I (not-so) secretly loath, and be completely nihilistic and miserable.

How can somone say this show "jumped the shark" show unseen?

    by coughlins laws

In reality, even though I think it's possible for shows to "jump the shark" and I'm not as tired of the phrase as some people here, I don't think you can tell ahead of time that this will be a Jump the Shark moment. You can't tell until afterwards. First of all, you have to see if the shows are funny. second of all you have to see the quality of the shows afterwards. You can't just call this desperate stunt-casting. Larry David has earned the benefit of the doubt with his clebrity appearances on the show. Almost every single one has been brilliant. Ben Stiller, David Schwimmer, Ted Danson, Richard Lewis, etc, etc, etc, have all been simply hilarious. I think the quality of this show has been at such a high level that fans of the show owe Larry David a lot of leeway. I mean, come on. Name me a bette television comedy writer the last 20 years, or even ever? I have seen every single episode of the show and I don't think any of them were bad. A few of them weren't 5 Star efforts but top to bottom, name me a better comedy show with a better batting average from top to bottom each season than Curb Your Enthusiasm? Unless you can name one Riley Martin, don't you think Larry David earned a chance before you say this great show will all of the sudden be horrible because he's bringing back the entire cast of probably the funniest show of all time for multiple episodes? I just don't get it...

As far as current shows that have "Jumped the Shark"

    by coughlins laws

I'd have to say The Office clearly has. In one fell swoop, the Season 3 Finaly got Jim and Pam together and inexplicably made Ryan the Temp the Regional Manager. Both of those moves made it hard for me to get into Season 4. But by the time I finally did start enjoying the show again, the had the whole Dwight and Angela screwing behind Andy's back, which I didn't think was funny at all. I mean, now it's too the point where the only funny thing about the show to me is Michael Scott. I don't think Pam was ever funny and the whole relationship thing kind of neutered Jim, the same way hooking the lovable romantic loser Chandler up with Monica did on friends. You can look back to that as when Chandler stopped being funny. But anyway, I think if you want to use that expression, the Office is my Number 1 example of the last 5 years, a once great show that made some horrible plot decisions it has yet to atone for. I mean, I guess it could come back. I remember Seinfeld and even South Park had a couple of sub-par seasons in the middle but both shows finished really strong (or in South Park's case, has gotten strong again the last 4 or 5 seasons).

    by prossor

speaking of that I've not been watching it now but the latest seasons have been awful. Every episode was them trying to give a message about something and have it be like a fake sappy tone to it when it just gets annoying, every show is them making a stance against something current going on, it's almost like watching the news, and then overdose of Cartman who is a one-joke character. The earlier seasons were just about making you laugh without the hamfisted morals of their stories.
