Learn Who Stars In Christopher Nolan’s First Movie Since THE DARK KNIGHT!! Hint: Not Christian Bale!!
I am – Hercules!!
Director Christopher Nolan has landed Leonardo DiCaprio to star in “Inception,” a sci-fi actioner that has something to do with the mind.
This means Nolan may not be working with Christian Bale – who starred in Nolan’s two Batman movies as well as “The Prestige” – for the first time since 2002’s Al Pacino cop thriller “Insomnia.”
Nolan’s credits also include “Memento,” also about the mind.
Great news, I say! “Body of Lies” perhaps notwithstanding, DiCaprio – whose credits include “Gangs of New York,” “Catch Me If You Can,” “The Departed” and “Revolutionary Road” – has a decent eye for material. And, like Alexander Payne, Nolan has yet to direct a bad film.

I hope it's some kind of mindfuck story.
First post maybe? -
There ya go.
-
Never come close to first post before. Anyways, with Leo on it probably will become an ensemble cast. Hopefully no ScarJo in this one though.
-
And Herc, aren't you just the TV guy?

leo!!! what like you have never had a man crush before
by phoenixmagida5th
But I say its good to take a break from the perfect batman film ever and when u feel the time is right and the story is right to go foe it. Unlike spidey 3 that ramimi went right into after the awesome spidey 2 and u know the rest
-
Hmmm, means the beginning of... something to ponder when trying to decypher what the mind oriented story will be. No telling with the Nolan's scriptwriting. Memento was a brilliant idea. I wonder if perhaps they are going to tackle some other affliction that hampers ones world perceptions?
-
I think he's one of the best out there but I don't know. I feel like I've had enough for a while. I was hoping for Hugh Jackman when I clicked it.
-
and singing Elton John tunes.
-
Certainly not.

"Nolan’s credits also include “Memento,” also about the mind."
by badmrwonka
yes, thank you for pointing that out, Herc. ;o)
-
The Director of Photography can sleep easy. Or can he...?
-
You know, between multiple Watchmen viewings.
-
I'm pounding some beers here for about a hhalf hour
-
oh my gosh, that's wonderful! That is all. I love it. Leonardo, sigh. I want to see this now, *g*. Leo will have "Shutter Island," then this with Christopher Nolan. I love it!
-
It was nothing great, but an decent escape for a couple hours, and Mark Strong in particular was awesome. But this film will most likely be about 100x better. Definitely looking forward to this collaboration.

Since when did the world decide DiCaprio was a "serious" actor?
by geraldbeans
The guy is so average it's ridiculous. But at least he gets movies made. And that's what matters in this business.
-
Nice proofreading, Herc.
-
It's like watching a little boy play dress-up. Good God, The Departed, The Aviator, The Beach--he hasn't been good in a movie for 15 years.
-
He sucks the life out of every film he stars in.I know it's a Cliché, but the emperor has no clothes. He's a meal ticket, a mediocre actor with a pretty face nothing more. "Titanic" was a one off, a freak.Do not sell your soul as others have done Nolan...
-
I guess Nolan loves his DPs too much to let them take that risk.
-
Or something.
-
Body Of Lies is perfectly good, and I suspect the people slagging it off are the same retards who slag off Miami Vice.
-
Unless its a one man movie
-
yeah he was overheard saying 'do you want me to sink your ship?' And the rest is history
-
It could be a monologue version of My Dinner with Andre.
-
it was a really slick spy thriller, but was repetitive and convoluted. That being said, it had some great action scenes and a pretty cool ending. Also, Miami Vice kicked all kinds of ass
-
I used to hate him in the 90's, and I think he was miscast in Gangs of New York, but he does have great taste in material. I thought Blood Diamond was great too, haven't seen Body of Lies yet though.
-
but hey, I trust Nolan
-
It makes me wonder if we can expect a Dicaprio-villain in batman 3.
-
in fact, I refer to it as "Oh Africa, Brave Africa". Leo cost himself an Oscar, imo, by pushing his role in Blood Diamond over his better work in The Departed. I think he thought it was a more "important" film. I'm really tired of "important" films.
-
I'd see that.
-
Huh. Sounds neat.
-
I don't remember that being the case. I think it was out of his hands; the studio was pushing for "Blood Diamond" because that was one of its better shots at a nod, while "The Departed" was getting plenty of notice by then. Leonardo, among all the actors, I felt, praised for his portrayal. I was very disappointed he wasn't nominated for "The Departed" too though; I agree, CherryValance, had he been nominated for it, his chances would've been so much better. He would've benefited from all the success Marty's movie had that night and it would've been fitting too, to have it be a Marty film. Not someone else's. But... I have my fingers crossed for "Shutter Island." Cannot wait!
-
but I could go for a DiCaprio Riddler. That'd be something different for him.

Damn, Bale is one of the best actors, far above Leo

Bale and Nolan are fucking done professionally.

ricarleite - Wally Pfister is not an ass like Shane Hurlburt
by most excellent ninja
And Pfister and Bale get along. Pfister wouldn't walk into a shot. Plus Pfister didn't make Into The Blue.
-
However, since Bale's an outed potty-mouth they ought to throw in a "I'm the Goddamn Batman!" to Batman 3 just for kicks.
-
DiCaprio has always been stellar. If you didn't think he was fantastic in The Departed, you don't know what acting is.
-
Mar 03, 2009 10:33:38 PM CST
So Bale's not in this, right? NOT INTERESTED.
by dannyglovers_dickblood
-
The movie section doesn't need your penchant for overstating the obvious.
-
There was a rumor a while back that Christopher Nolan was in the running to direct the remake of the Korean movie The Chaser starring Leonardo as the former cop turned pimp... I shit my pants when I heard the news.
I guess this is even better!
Nolan and DiCaprio sounds so right. -
He got robbed at the Oscars for The Aviator.
-
A month ago I watched The Beach, and I noticed just a little something in Leo at one point that made it hit me like a ton of bricks that he could pull off the Joker. This pretty much confirms it. Just remember that you heard it here first, and that I even knew it a month ago before this casting news came out.
-
(so that Nolan and him can discuss/practice Joker on set before announcing it to the world next year)
-
And also.
-
Have you seen The Departed? He's serious man.
-
Yeah I said it. Two and a half stars- straight up.
-
...and things...and, you know, stuff too. Should be awesome.
-
Nolan could really fuck with the franchise and you fanboys would still love it. (TDK rules!)
-
Cause it's actually good. Kevin Smith's career on the other hand.
-
I'm surprised nobody sees how obvious the Joker recast is. You have one of the producers in early January talking about how you need to "separate the role from the actor". You have Nolan doing another movie in-between (announcing a Joker recast right now would be death - in a year and a half when you announce it, people accept it). And now Leonardo DiCaprio, who is a serious possible Joker if you actually think about it, is cast as the lead in Nolan's in-between movie? I mean come on.
-
He thinks Nolan is a journeyman filmmaker and not entertaining. I disagree but I'm just a cinema major.
-
This came straight out of left field, but I like it. :)
-
The romantic subplot felt tacked-on, but Scott brought his usual visual gloss to the proceedings, and there were some incredibly tesne moments and great action setpieces. Seriously, it's pretty damn good.
-
It didn't come out of left field, because I've known for a month now that Leo could pull off the Joker.
-
Props for only working with the best directors out there today.
-

Maybe ScriptGirl can reveal this scoop on Saturday.
by brock landers baby
'Cause she's fucking useless.
-
That is all
-
DiCaprio. Seriously; he stopped being a good actor half-way through the Departed. The main reason his character got shot, was Scorcese's way to let Leo know he sucked. Seriously; this is bad casting, but Nolan is Nolan. He might get Leo to turn off the fucking mugging, and turn on the fucking acting. That would be nice.
-
Nolan screwed the ending on that one. So dissapointed, I saw the original because Bay St. Video recommended the criterion dvd long before the remake. Had such high hopes. Well, you gave us Memento, TDK, BB, Prestige. Your forgiven man
-
You heard it here first.
-
I also know that doing so makes me a bad person.
-
The only two I like are Gilbert Grape and.. yeah, Titanic. The rest of his choices have been terrible. It would be good to see him in a decent movie again.
-
... if River Phoenix were still alive.
-
Just a brilliant actor and now working with a brilliant writer/director means this is highly anticipated!
-
...than Nolan's that I seriously suspected that MEMENTO had been a fluke. I was glad to see his lame remake of INSOMNIA was the exception and not the rule for Nolan.
Anybody who hasn't seen it should check out the original with Stellan Starsgard. Beautiful, devastating, well-acted film - everything Nolan's remake wasn't. -
Yeah.
-
...or live long enough to become a Batman villain.
-
Seriously I own it. Never finished it. Its kinda like a bed time lullabye.
-
Nolan does like working with the top of the acting cream for his films. If this goes over well, I wonder if he will want to bring DiCaprio in for some part in the next batman? It could happen.
-
"I LOVE YA, AL, BUT GO HOME AND GET SOME FUCKING SLEEP...YOU LOOK LIKE SHIT, AND YOU'RE MAKING ME LOOK LIKE A FUCKING AMATEUR."
-
HORRIBLE script. Terrible. Weak art direction (important in a comic flick), unrestrained editing, a weak central romance, BOTH halves of the film are underdeveloped (particularly that hackneyed ninja training sequence), and an utter waste of the villains. And this is coming from someone who thinks The Dark Knight is a masterpiece.
-
I'm not a fan.Body of Lies was decent. They added an unneeded romantic interest who of course went full-damsel-in-distress (...or did she????). Russell Crowe at least attempted a Southern accent for the whole movie. DiCaprio had it one minute, lost it the next, got it back threefold a couple minutes later, dropped it again...
-
You can, but you'll never win an Oscar!
-
So, Herc, you didn't watch Batman Begins?
-
Sorry about that pally. I should at least glance at the TB before posting.
-
Worth seeing just for his performance alone.
-
Does any one else think this guy is a complete hack. He ruined the aviator too, and Im a Howard Hughes freak.
-
Leo is better looking than all of you... including me.
End of discussion. -
but look forward Nolan's next film
-
They probably think shit like Friday the 13th is the height of filmmmaking.
-
because John locke is a pussy that gets beaten down by a rabbit locking mother fucker and batman begins was pure ass you have no taste.
-
I've had a high opinion of Leo's acting since What's Eating Gilbert Grape? Sometimes he's hit and miss, but his good films outweigh the bad.

Poor sap.
-
Just thought I'd get it there first before the Plants hijack this talkback.
-
It just wasn't really good. It's a solid effort. Crowe and Leo were good, but Mark Strong was fucking great. When is Hollywood going to wake the fuck up and cast him as the lead in something? Didn't think much of Rev Road. Leo looked like he was playing 'grown-ups' in daddys clothes.
-
GOOD THINKING ON DICAPRIO POSSIBLY HAVING A ROLE IN THE NEXT BATMAN FILM (Joker), NONE OF US HAD MENTIONED IT YET AND I HADN'T MADE SEVEN POSTS ABOUT IT ABOVE YOURS.
-
DiCaprio started out well with the Basketball diaries but beyond that he has been ruined by crap direction and an inflated ego. DiCaprio. Cant. Act. He is the new Nicholas Cage.
-
i dont know why nobody knows it yet. The departed was utter crap.
-
scenes wont follow any order. they will order them in random an expect you to fucking understand. i like nolan but one trick shouldnt be used all the time.

I started watching Saboteur last night
by i_am_not_the_droid_you_are_looking_for
Got tired halfway through. Will finish it tonight. Good so far. I love the dialogue and delivery in old movies. I bought a Hitchcock collection about two years ago. About 15 movies in the box. Watched about two. Time to change that.
-
both of them should do a movie together.
-
Wrong TB! So, anyone else seen Hitchcocks Saboteur?
-
fuck outta here you fucking amateur!
-

But... I was just tweaking the lights?
by i_am_not_the_droid_you_are_looking_for
I... I'm sorry...
-
And his squinty-eyed, scrunched-faced, "I'm conveying that my character is pensive and intense" so-called acting. Unless the movie is an hour and a half of someone going Ike Turner on him and just pimp-slapping the shit out of him like the little bitch he is, I'm not interested. Which is a fucking shame, because I love Nolan's movies.
-
I can't wait for this new film!!
-
Please tell me which superhero movie is better? If you say Superman or Spiderman 2 then you are a gay.
-
...oh my god.... what a shocker
-
The Prestige was just one of those stupid twist movies that always come across cheesy, but usually twist movies are just hokey crime thrillers. The Prestige actually seemed to expect you to care about these people even though they and and the film itself did nothing but lie to you.
-
He's been okay in okay movies for most of his career. I'm pretty indifferent to him.
-
Make it happen, teabags.
-
No Bale. No peace.
The million man march is gonna seem like a walk in the park once this shitstorm breaks. -
Or any other movie he's done. He was supposed to be a cheese-ball in Titanic. That was the character.

I dunno..I just felt like saying that.
Cheers, BTW, to Brannigan's Law on that River Phoenix comment. -
Bale's cock played the doomed ocean liner.
-
I don't expect anything less than a great film from this guy.
-
just contributing
-
maybe Bale will not be the lead! but will participate, even though he prolly has a lot of movies to star in now...
-
I'm not going to sugarcoat it: That caption TB is nothing but a corporate sellout. Keep it real, Professionals.
-
Yeah...that's what that film needed...a strong romantic love angle. Cause you know...Batman is such a romantic.
Idiots. -
He's on a speedboat crossing the ocean right now. Warning!
-
...glowering at everyone just to keep 'em on top of their game.
-
Really? I think you should watch it again, Herc. Or even just the opening sequence. Seriously.
-
Insomnia was a terrible movie. Oh god, and boring as hell. Nolan has a great eye, I'll give that to him. But he can't edited a movie if his life depended on it.
I wasn't as gaga over TDK like 90% of the geeks out there. I too think it's a tad Overrated. It's good, yes. Is it great, no.
But it is nice that Nolan is not using Bale. Who is OVERRATED. It just sucks I have to watch Bale in the next Micheal Mann movie this summer with Depp. -
but am man enough to admit he is a very good actor and can get way more/hotter pussy than I can ever dream about. Fuck that guy.
-
...cause the guy does have the chops. I like Bale but haven't seen too many different dimensions from yet...yes a bit overated. I've read geeks calling him one of the best actors of our generation...whatever.
And I'm not praising TDK as the greatest thing since sliced bread but I do think it's Nolan's best. MEMENTO was a mess and a novel concept at best. -
He has consistently made good films since Titanic, with a few great ones thrown in. If you can't see that this guy has talent and charisma to spare, then you are an idiot. You fucktards are the same people who said casting Ledger as the joker was a bad idea. You people don't know talent when it's right there in front of you.
-
Darth_Kaos and DoctorWho. You know not what you've said. It's safer to diss Mohammed than to diss Bale...
"Infidel defilers. You will all drown in rivers of blood. Now you will know why you are afraid of the dark. Now you will know why you fear the night." -

please drop to your knees and say seven "Hail Bales," while meditating on the sorrow... and your imminent demise.
-

-
Saw it, was bored by it. Terrible.
-
It was called The Dark Knight
-
Love DiCaprio. Defended him for a while. Love Nolan. No need to defend him. Should be good.
-
Seriously? I mean, Election was sweet, Sideways was cool but it's fans really make me want to burn down every vineyard in the world. Just seemed unnecessary. Sorry, I'm still relatively new to posting on here so i've gotta get YEARS of repressed talkback rage out.
-
I like it. And I think he can pull it off. Depends on how well he gets along with Nolan, though. Another actor to overshadow Bale...
-
He's actually a fantastic actor....it might be that some of you just can't stand his personality. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
-

This sounds like an excellent pairing of actor and director.
by a goonie
Nolan is one helluva great director and DiCaprio is one helluva great actor. Seeing these two team up sounds like a blast to me.
-
You wrote, "MEMENTO was a mess and a novel concept at best."
Yeah, that about spells it out for you. Too bad you don't possess the attention span to enjoy an intense, groundbreaking examination of human cognition and memory. Your loss. -
except maybe that magician movie. And DiCaprio was perfect in Gangs of New York, that was the character - a delinquent little man-boy with a chip on his shoulder that elicits a fatherly instinct in the butcher and has a hard time of being his bosom buddy while being forced to wait to take his vengeance, because he is too much of a bitch to act
-
...and it was called The Prestige and it was AWFUL!
-
Nolan is a long way from being great...
-
Thanks trombone! Been trying to get the Leo Joker thing off the ground for a month now, and even now with this casting news nobody is listening to me except you and like one other dude.
-
If they absolutely HAD to have a romance, which like you I completely disagree with in a Batman film unless the that woman has certain feline sensibilities, you better fucking make it work. The rectified this brilliantly in Dark Knight by making Dawes less a character and more a tool of Harvey Dent's downfall, a position in which she worked brilliantly. but I agree that character should have never existed in the first place. You can thank the studios who erroneously think every fucking comic book film needs a leading lady and that hack David Goyer.
-
Leonardo DiCaprio gets his fingers smashed in with a hammer. Seriously, what's not to like?
-
It's the only movie by Nolan that I don't really like. I just don't relate to any of its caracters. And Pacino has sucked ass for 2 decades now.
-
that thinks The Dark Knight is a bad movie (different from not finding it great) is a fruit.
-
in the prestige. Tesla deserves a movie of his own.
