24!! ER!! WHO!! HILLS!! DADS!! UNCLE!! MOD SQUAD!! STARGATE!! HercVault!!

Published at:  Mar 04, 2009 2:32:49 PM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

I don’t like sitcoms, especially sitcoms with laughtracks, but boy do I love 1987’s “My Two Dads,” a sitcom about a teen whose dead mom was just slutty enough throw said teen’s parentage into question. (The series was widely known among its cast and crew as “Whose Sperm Is It Anyway?”)

Chuck Lorre, who went on to create “Two and a Half Men” and “The Big Bang Theory,” wrote the most episodes.

Comic Paul Reiser, still fresh from stellar turns in “Diner,” “Beverly Hills Cop” and “Aliens,” played the funny dad; Greg Evigan, the “B.J. and the Bear” star whose filmography is not as impressive, played the handsome dad. Staci Keanan was cute and funny as the daughter. A tiny Giovanni Ribisi, billed in those days as Vonni, was hilarious as the nerd who pined for Keanan’s character.

The sole bonus feature is “A Look Back At My Two Dads” (16:29) with 33-year-old Keanan (now a blonde) and 55-year-old Evigan (who looks a lot like Jon Voight now) reminiscing in directors chairs. Learn that Evigan originally wanted to turn down the role because he didn’t like the idea of playing a dad. Learn that the network wanted to recast Keanan post-pilot, but was overruled by series creator Michael Jacobs. Learn that Keanan, who found the rewrites stressful, was in a fatherless household when the series was shot, and fantasized that the then-childless Reiser would adopt her. Learn that Ribisi and his guitar were inseparable.

All reality shows are fake, but some are a lot faker than others. When a hot girl gets bopped in the head by a mallet during a “Survivor” competition I can tell when it hurts. On the “The Hills” the dullest girls in Los Angeles yammer endlessly about their boyfriends’ perceived level of fidelity but never talk about their recent magazine cover and talk show appearances, or the fact that they make a lot more money from cell-phone commercials than their “jobs” in the fashion industry. I don’t root for shows to die, but I am heartened to hear the ratings for this useless vanity exercise are plummeting.

Nash Bridges was the series that first teamed “Lost” showrunners Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof. Is true. So if you like those episodes with Hurley's dad you should maybe give this a look.

ER’s 10th season was, for me, the season the series began its descent into the mawkish, unfunny sitcom it is today. It was the first season since the departure of key creative force and longtime showrunner Jack Orman and the first since Mark Greene’s final death rattle. (Susan Lewis and Deb Chen were briefly brought back during this period to shore up linkage to the show’s earliest days and help fill the vacuum left by Anthony Edwards’ departure.) It was the first season for Neela and Sam and the last for Rocket Romano and the Carter/Lockhart romance. Oh, and it was the season that replaced hospital watering hole Doc Magoo’s with a JumboMart. How better to underscore the idea that the good times had ended?

When will 24 be on Blu-Ray?

    by platinumk21

Also, they're releasing season 7 on dvd a lot earlier than normal. I guess it's because of the long delay between seasons 6 and 7.

I'm still waiting patiently for this release. The first release is just gorgeous on Blu Ray. Great show, too bad another reality show will most likely take its spot.

    Laugh Tracks and Nash Bridges

    by derlanghaarige

I'm not judging anybody who is annoyed by laugh tracks. I remember watching ALF as a kid and thinking: "What's up with these people laughing?" But over the years I got over it and these days I don't even notice it anymore! A few weeks ago I watched 'How I Met your Mother'* and suddenly I heard the audience laugh and thought: "Hey, wait a moment, has there always been a laugh track?"
And Nash Bridges. What a great show. Not groundbreaking or "dark & edgy", like the kids love it these days, but I will be damned if this show didn't have some of the greatest character chemsitry in the history of Television! I never watched the show for the cases that had to be solved, but for all these great b-stories about the private life of the characters. Oh, and is Season 2 the one with the episode thathas guest stars Philip Michael Thomas and Tommy Chong? (And Meat Loaf)

*which is BTW still pretty lame whenever Barney isn't saying or doing anything. So screw you, people who promised me that it becomes a great show in season 2!

And about Keanan in Step By Step:

    by derlanghaarige

In that show she had this sister who was supposed to be the prettiest girl in school, that every boy wants to date and so on. I always thought that Keanan was hotter than her (despite her annoying Lisa Simpson-attitude in the show.)

The Saturday Morning Cartoons DVD cover!

    by derlanghaarige

The pic of Scooby seriously bothers me.Wanna know why? I know a picture of Velma, that looks exactly the same! It's the same pose and even the expression on her face is the very similar. It's like someone took this picture and just painted a Scooby over Velma. Maybe there is one of these for every Member of the gang...

I think the release of 24 season 7 is wrong because when it is released there is still the finale left to go on the 25th of May. I could see the 26th, but not the 19th unless Fox is making another episode or 2 a 2 hour special.

DerLanghaarige, I too generally don't notice laugh tracks

    by big jim

or at least don't let them get to me. I've been watching The Big Bang Theory since it began and this week's episode drove me nuts. I suddenly became very aware of the laugh track to the point I cringed every time anyone said or did anything as I knew that grating noise would immediately explode from my speakers right after. A laugh track, if one is going to use it, should be used like a music track - it should compliment the scene, not overpower it.

...the fact that Parker Lewis s1 clocks in at nearly $50, even from Amazon? Great show, but...$50? It's like they purposely want to eliminate justification for releasing the rest of the series.

I watched this show when it was on in the 80s. I was a sitcom junkie at that time. It is not a memorable sitcom. Was it better than Perfect Strangers? Yes, but what wasn't? You have just lost a lot of credibility with me over this comment.

Yeah, laugh track done wrong can be VERY annoying.

    by derlanghaarige

Fun fact: The German dubbing of Married With Children features for any reason an unbelievable amateurish laugh track. Not in terms of sound quality, but you hear always the same few soundclips when the audience laughs. In every single episode! BUT this is one of the things that made the show popular in Germany. Meanwhile it's very unthinkable for any German to watch this show without the guy who yells "YayYAAAY!" two or three times per episode. :)

Most or all laugh track shows were filmed in front of a live studio audience. Laugh tracks are used to punch up the applause. Night Court had an audience, but a laugh track was used as well.
