Merrick here...

I'm not sure what the hell was happening to Harry while posting the article below (and I'm not sure I wanna know), but...to clear up any confusion...

There's a brand new TERMINATOR SALVATION trailer online over at Yahoo. Here's an embed:

You can find it in spectacular HD...

It doesn't suck at all. In fact, this is anti-suck.

Hey there Yogi Bear, Harry here! This time with the TERMINATOR SALVATION trailer that Harry thought that Quint described at Wondercon this weekend, which has gone up over at Yahoo Movies in HD! I have to say - this film is looking real good - and just wait till y'all get a glimpse of Young Arnie - it'll blow your minds. Seriously. Not that I would actually know, I'm just saying. It bet it is awesome! Ahem. Yeah. Anyway, here ya go:

    T2

    by carpet_pisser

I know T2 is regarded as some great piece of cinema...and I am gonna get flamed mercilessly for this, but it really is not that great. The whole idea of a good terminator is fucking weak. This should be about humans vs. machines. I don't care if they reprogrammed it to protect John and stroke him off when he got too tense, there is no way anyone would trust one. Just wouldn't fucking happen. And the whole, I don't have a Daddy, so this Terminator will be my new Daddy...bullshit. T1 > T2. The only thing T2 had on T1 was better effects (we all thought that the T-1000 was balls back in 91) and Robert Patrick was cool as hell as a terminator.

T3...I agree was made just to cash in, but I will give it one thing, it had the balls to end the movie with Judgement Day. That was a fucking cool ass ending. Instead of trying to make some larger point like in T2 that we make our own future, basically implying that humanity has a responsibility to think about it's actions for future generations...yada yada yada. It is a fucking Terminator movie.

    by genrefanboy

Looks so like this years Speed Racer but no wait at least that had some eye candy & geeky OTT quirks. This has what about $100M worth of ILM robots & other invisible FX work with bland cheap uninteresting actors in a PG13 tentpole. If they had one signature sequence we would have seen it by now but guess what the drama cupboard is bare and WB are desperate to recoup some of their loses on this one & you just know Transformers2 is going to stomp on this as its more family friendly than this dire effort.

The Terminator movies mean only one thing to me

    by jaywells87

Growing up with divorced parents, as a kid I'd go to my dad's on weekends, and on snowy or rainy ones we'd rent a stack of videos to watch. My dad loves westerns and action flicks, and the Bond franchise and the Terminator movies are flicks that remind me of my dad no matter what. Watching Terminator 1 and 2 for the first time as a 9 year old, then seeing T3 in the theater with him at 16 years later, some of the best memories I've had with the old man. I cannot wait to visit him and take him to a theater and see this. he and I both watched it online, and he sounds pumped. I really hope this delivers the goods. McG, please, please don't ruin this. Just don't.

    by media messiah

I hated your work, thanks to the Charlie's Angels films, and that Rush Hour rip-off that you did for Fox TV...but over the years, since then, to my surprise, you have acquitted yourself with shows like Chuck and Supernatural, the latter of which, I am still not a fan of, but I recognize its technical prowess...and well executed structure. In fact, both shows have that technical prowess and well executed structure...so I must say that I am glad to see you make the turned away from the mess that is the Charlie's Angels films, to becoming a legitimate talent. Congratulations...and here's wishing you well with your future projects!!!

the song "dates" the movie? "the day the world went away" is around ten years old, and it certainly was not some hot mtv single. i don't think it even had a music video, but i could be wrong about that.we could have had a predictable two minutes of terminator score, but instead we got a song that's epic and apocalyptic in its tone (both musically and lyrically) that fits the material like a glove. then, when the terminator theme kicks in at the end, it actually packs a punch. it's a lot more effective that way.

Seriously. Even if this turns out to be completely stupid (unlikely), this is looking like some outstanding eye candy. I think the talkbacker above is right. Someone(or a few thousand someones) owes McDirector an apology. From the Charlies Angels promotional material, I assumed he was a cokehead. Maybe he's just Bi-Polar after all, or naturally full of far too much energy. This and how much better Supernatural has been adds up to what I believe is a massive underestimation of the man.

Post-nuclear graininess aside, I don't know how the mechanistic visual effects are any better than the Matrix, much less Transformers (and having that much CGI is much worse for 'realistic' action sequences), and apparently McG's gone back to the "let's blow up a bridge" standby from Charlie's Angels: Full Assload.

i ask because we in canada, especially back then, shared the same ratings. what was R rated in america also was in canada. but back then that meant you had to be 18yrs to simply enter the theater, none of that "be with someone 18 or older" like america does. so with all that said, i saw T2 in theaters multiple times and i was 14...so is everyone sure it was R rated? anyway, this trailer is cool....i was already gonna see this regardless but that definately made me anticipate it more.

hmmmm....interesting idea. you'd think it'd have to come from the future, since the first infiltration units had "rubber skin"...but if the timeline holds true, Reese said they had "won" and that the first T-800 was a last chance gambit (and patrick and lohken i guess were sent back simultaneously)...I don't know - i guess we'll find out. Like i said, it looks promising, so I will keep my fingers crossed...

Can't see why people are wanking over the trailer.Washed out, colour correted visuals purley in order to make the CGI gel with the live action. Check
Lots of explosions. Check. Overly earnest dialog which will probably carry no weight as it's another typical popcorn movie (unlike the original). Check.I'll catch on TV one day.

Thematically the NIN is perfect, and sets the mood well. It was the first single released off "The Fragile" but the video never came out. Just do a search on Wikipedia for "The Day the World Went Away".
For the Watchmen preview, Smashing Pumpkins' Grammy winning track "The Beginning Is the End Is the Beginning" was used. Again, do a Wikipedia search for more.
Both excellent tracks from amazing bands perfectly suited to set the atmosphere for the respective previews.

    by manzilla

They should have a rule in Hollywood that CGI is only allowed if the intended effect is impossible with practical. All modern movies look the same now. Where is the artistry that even T2 had so much of? All were going to get in Terminator Salvation is a decent movie that no one will remember with splashy fx that will be outdated 3 months after it will be released. 15 cgi choppers crashing doesnt have a fraction of the impact of the semi chase sequence in t2.

    defending 'popcorn flick'

    by funnyhat

I always thought a Popcorn Flick was a spectacle film, a very visual movie you would want to experience in a theater. Kind of like seeing that movie @ home, whether in blu-ray with a home theater or watching on a PS2 in your dorm, would never be as cool as seeing it on a giant HD projector in a room with near perfect acoustics and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of AV technology. THAT is a popcorn flick to me. A rental is 'The Reader', a movie that isn't worth me and my girlfriend spending $30 at the theater. I'd rather watch a big splashy movie in the theater, no matter how good it is. If it even slightly piques my interest I'll pay to see it on the big screen with the loud speakers.

Pretty much explains why I haven't seen so many of the Oscar nominees/winners. They don't require a theater type setting to impart their story. Because they generally have story. It's kinda like reading a book in a stadium. Doesn't really make that much sense.

But when a movie is designed to go BOOM, well if it piques my interest I want to see that in a theater.

    Popcorn flies everywhere.

Do you have a grasp on practicality? how do you think CGI advances? You want them to actually build these humoungous set pieces with outlandish shots that can only be done once because of budgets? How bout you build giant fucking walking robots with guns for shoulders, or motorcycles that can be hit by debris and keep driving at 100mph. That way they won't need CGI. In 10 years you won't be able to tell the difference anymore. Look at some of these video games coming out on PC with photorealistic real-time rendered environments, and you'll see in 10 years time the pre-rendered CGI used in movies will make practical effects shots for large set pieces nearly obsolete.

No, the moto-terminators have to be cg, but the flying hunter killer doesn't have to be. Cameron pulled those off with models back in T1, don't tell me they couldn't build a sweet model and properly green-screen it into the shot. At the moment, it does stand out and look fake, any way you cut it. Still, I'm not bashing this, I think the trailer is very cool, its those kinds of shots that pull you out of the movie.

The only thing the "Geek gizzing my pants" proves is that geeks even in todays day and age still can't get laid.
On another note, I'm pretty psyched about the movie, but I have yet to see any "young Arnie" in there. As for T3, I actually loved that movie. It was different, but had a mutch darker and grittier tone then the previous movies.

    by geraldbeans

The scope is in non-existent. Everything is in a small contained space. That's the problem with these "franchises" these days. It used to be you put all your good stuff in a single movie. And if it was good, you then tried to make your best second movie. Now they spread it out over 3 films. lol. What a joke. Like it isn't hard enough to make one film good. You have to stretch all the good stuff over six hours?? I hate Hollywood.

I guess you're right, T1 was the darkest of them all. But allthough T3 had it's flaws, I just love that dark doomed ending. Plus the street scene with the crane was awsome. Was the movie different? As for TYes, but I have to say seeing how SKYNET spread over the internet, and just took over everything was way cool.
As for T-1000 comment, I agree, this looks better. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, we're just judging my the trailers. Who knows, the lighting guy Bale was bitching at probably sabatoged the movie.

Marcus is a cyborg in the traditional way..

    by anakinsdiapers

..He's a human whose body parts were replaced with cybernetics. He's Steve Austin. Maybe, skynet first experimented with augmenting and controlling humans for infiltration, because it hadn't yet perfected the ability to mimic basic human emotions. Later, the human augmentation idea is tossed for the terminator infiltration model we all know.

    looks really good actually

    by hegele

I don't understand why people assume it should look like T1 or T2, i mean this is a post apocalyptic war movie, and the beginning of the resistance, i'd expect it to look more Road Warrioe than T1, which it most certainly does. As i understand it the war scenes in the previous films have all taken place years into the ongoing battle, when fighters are more scarce, their technology not as advanced (they look like they use guns in this as opposed to laser thingies) and where machines look less industrial and more cyborg. This seems like the steady precursor to that.

Also, some mentioned this before, but i really admire the device of "Terminator thinking its a human and not knowing what it is really programmed to do". This is a wonderfully simple concept that doesn't feel cliche at all (unlike everything in T3). I love how Conner is the only one who knows how to deal with it too, since he's experienced them.

I really hope Arnie and Hamilton comes on board and lend a hand, or their voice, or likeness. I'm looking forward to Elfman's score too. There are so many great aspects of this film, though McG still feels like a tumor. It really will take the opening day before i secure any real impressions. I don't want my excitement of another Terminator film to get in the way of a possible mediocre film (like T3). Though McG has certainly sold me on buying a ticket to this opening night.

Behind the scenes of Bale's rant.

    by se7en

    1. DP is famous for being hyper active person. He moves a lot, EVEN during scenes. This happened SEVERAL TIMES.
    2. Bale couldn't take it anymore. He was talking to Bryce wearing armour, machine gun in one hand, a puppet terminator is by his side. Two people is holding this puppet. . He is to believe that the puppet is actually a threatening being from the future. In that odd circumstances, he bares his feeling to Bryce's character.
    3. To make the above nonsense believable, he immersed himself IN THE SCENE, giving all out drama, for our viewieng pleasure.
    4. Shane Hurlbut, well known as a hyperactive DP, interruptes the scene AGAIN by casually moving back and forth in front of the lights, IN THE MIDDLE OF A TAKE, hot dog in his hand.
    5. Bale, JUST COULDN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE.
    He flipped.
    6. Shane doesn't apologize (that's all Bale wanted, an acknowledgement that Shane was wrong). Shane instead talks back, with an attitude of a surf dude. "I was just fixing the lights, man... sorry, dude... take a minute geez, talk a walk bro..etc", hot dog still in hand.
    7. When Bale finnaly simmers down, he puts on a strap that holds his rifle to his chest, with the help of Tom. It came off during the rant. Bale's ready to continue.
    8. While Tom's putting the strap, Bale is still talking (griping to himself mostly) looking down to the strap and rifle. He still complains. The mike still picks this up. But he wasn't talking to anybody at this time.
    9. Bale gripes further, 'You don't understand working with actors'.
    10. Shane still in talk-back mode (you can hear Shane talking back all this time in the background, even the crew is thinking 'shut the F up Shane, it's a rough night, we want to go home). Shane still refusing to acknowledge, says “No, what it is, is that I feel that the lights should…bla bla”. That was it. He says he was sorry before, but doesn’t acknowledge it in the next moment. Bale loses it. This is where he says “I’m gonna kick your eFfin ass.”
    11. Shane apologizes again, but still talking back. The man doesn’t shut up. Hot dog in hand.
    12. Bale admitted that he was wrong, but everyone on the set knew that Shane had it coming.)
    13. Bale IS NOT a prima donna. His beef was with Shane only. Notice how he refers to his props person Tom with 'please' amidst all the temper towards Shane.
    14. Everything is not a s it seems.

"Though he's been a bit preoccupied with running California since T3, Arnold Schwarzenegger may make an appearance in Salvation. Reportedly, a computer-animated recreation of Schwarzenegger's face will be digitally grafted onto the body of Austrian bodybuilder Roland Kickinger (who played the young Arnold in a TV movie). McG is also in talks to have Linda Hamilton reprise her role as Sarah Conner in a voice-over that will tie the beginning of this movie to the end of T2." tinyurl. com /bsdswz

    **Possible Spoilers**

    by snakesonabicycle

I if remember correctly AICN had a story report from TSalvation re: John Connor being killed, and the resistance creating a terminator replica of him for morale's sake. Sam Worthington's character seems to either be the partial truth of that rumor, or a harbinger for things to come. It would make sense they do this... suspecting the auidence would much rather see Bale as a terminator, or at least having terminator type powers, instead of just running away all the time from vastly physically superior beings. As far as Worthington's character goes I think he's probably programmed not to know he's half machine to better infiltrate the resistance. It makes sense. Arnie's terminator wouldn't need to be programmed that way since being sent back to a time where nobody knows about terminators. Worthington's model was probably superior than Arnie's model, but harder to control, hence the conflict for his character in the story. I do like one of the posts mentioning that there could be things sent from the future to TSalvation's present. However it looks like this new trilogy will focus on taking down Skynet, which can't culminate till part three, thus making Anton's Reese old and grizzled enough to go back in time and fight with Arnie's terminator. I think any glimpse we get of Schwartz's T-800 will be just that, a glimpse. I don't see how they can give it much to do, till part 3, unless they move Arnie's bad terminator being sent back in time to Salvation's second chapter, and the good reprogrammed Arnie back to chapter 3. It's all sooooooo confusing.

    by g100

I for one would have been delighted if they had took the "realism" of Private Ryan etc. and fused it with the Terminator mythology into an Epic War Movie.
This looks more promising than previously thought, but still, how much will be run from the robots/plot with the friendly robot and how much will be an all out War ?
I think we pretty much know the answer to that already.

    Again, Marcus isn't a machine..

    by anakinsdiapers

First of all,it would fly in the face of all previous continuity if Marcus, an obvious prototype of some sort, showing the range of human emotion he is showing. Fear, anger, anguish, doubt, and determination, all in it's proper context. And that's just in the trailer. McG is swearing up and down that he's being respectfull to the Terminator mythology, so if he's not bullshiting then at this point in the war, a Terminator hasn't the ability to fake human emotion as well as Marcus is emoting. It looks like McG is trying to add to the mythology while respecting what has gone before. So Marcus can't be an A.I. The trailer itself points out a plot point in the movie: Skynet is capturing humans for some nefarious reason. Marcus is the result i'd wager.

Everytime something new from this movie shows up I get more excited. I'm more excited about this now than I am Wolverine - saying something there - and I think what most important to acknowledge about McG's Terminator is that it feeling different to T1 and T2 (and T3 obviously!) is very much a good thing. This could be the start of something incredible. I'm keeping a strong vigil over it for now and everyone else should too.

    Where are the Lasers?

    by agentcross

From what I understand.. there are some of the terminators like the HK's that use lasers. But the Futures from the movies were always 2029 - 2032. So were not gonna be seeing plasma rifles untill atleast the 2nd or 3rd movie.

And to whoever asked why Marcus thinks he is human? Well, the answer is that he "is" human. Someone just replaced his skeleton structure with that of a Terminator. He has a heart, Brain, internal orgrans, etc.

Lastly, if you still think that Connor dies and his skin is put on Marcus at the end... please go kill yourself... that is all.

Is there a law that NIN must play in every other trailer?

    by rbatty024

Because if there isn't, then congress should pass it by the end of the year. NIN convinced me to see 300 (which wasn't a good thing) and now I think they've just convinced me to see T4.

On a somewhat related note, the reason why this won't be better than T2, is because unlike T2, T4 will be mostly CGI. I can't blame them since the scope of the film requires it, but CGI will never replace actual stunts. Hence the chase scene in the storm drain will still own any kind of video game action McG's computer geeks have come up with.

    My trailer analysis:

    by motoko kusanagi

0:00-0:13 Rip-off from the fucking brilliant T2 teaser trailer that the late Stan Winston made. Just without the coolness and brilliant score.0:14-0:41 Some nice footage mixed with some crappy scenes (like the hunterkiller-yard)
0:42-0:43 The T2 tow truck in ROAD WARRIOR dress0:44-0:48 CGI motobikes (uncrewed, yawn) in a lame CGI stunt (double-yawn)
0:49-0:55 A robot from TRANSFORMERS (seriously, WHAT THE FUCK is that silly thing doing in a TERMINATOR movie?!?) plucking some humans like in THE MATRIX0:56-1:28 Some kind of story element taken from BLADE RUNNER/BSG tv show/AI/younameit to add some "depth", I guess.
1:29-1:32 A building collapsing. Err...yes.1:33-1:35 A silly shot looking like a zombie b-movie.1:36-1:39 A lame fight scene plus some endoskeleton shots.
1:40-1:42 APOCALYPSE NOW bombing scene. Copied 1:1.
1:43-1:51 A guy crashing glass, a guy running, Bale shooting. Yawn.1:52-1:53 A helicopter crashes. Wow.
    1:54-1:55 A "reference" to T1.
1:56-1:57 Another "reference" to APOCALYPSE NOW.
1:58-2:09 Some random action and kissing sequences. No titties. Nothing too overwhelming, imho.
2:11-2:12 An explosion TAKEN FROM T3. WHAT. THE. HELL.?!?!
2:13-end Best part because Brad Fiedel's genius score kicks in.
Remaining questions: Where the hell are the money shots? Why should I be excited? Why are some of you kiddies flipping out over this underwhelming PG-13 bullshit?

The problem with CGI and previews...

    by rbatty024

is that the promise of a few seconds of CGI never lives up to the hype in the theater. The more a camera lingers on computer generated imagery, the less convincing those images become. Hence, a great trailer can become flat in the theater.

That being said, I still have high hopes for this film. Sure, McG is a largely untested director with few wins in his career, but I'm still rooting for him. Just about everyone I know has wanted to see a future wars terminator film since they saw the first movie. What I've seen so far looks promising.

Some of the best parts in Terminator and T:2 are the flashbacks to the human-machine war, and how it's a dark, debris-strewn urban war zone, all cool blues and grays. The future isn't one set moment and place in time. If this looks different, maybe it's because it's a different year or place? There's a ton of reasons why it could be different--the paradox of time travel for instance and how terminators being sent back in time could affect the future, etc...

Agreed, Flags. Anyone who thinks TERMINATOR SALVATION isnt going to make big dollars doesnt know diddly about what sells.
It's part of a massively popular franchise, its already had a ton of priceless publicity thanks to the Bale rant, cover of Empire magazine, they'll be toy and video game tie-ins, and the trailer is outstanding. Even if the film itself is weak (and most of us sane-minded talkbackers hope it isnt) it's still gonna be kerrrching time at the cash tills.

I'm a little confused...So the machines are now replicating human tissue and its news to John Connor? Wouldnt he have seen that in T2 w Arnold's character? Or is it that they are now merging humans w machines instead of creating machines to look like humans? Maybe I should just wait to find out...:)

    by wavingflagsinspace

The majority of teenagers have not seen the first two terminator movies because the third one was so average.I think this could be the start of something very special for a lot of kids (13 - 16) as they fall for Salvation and then have the brains to check out the origin stories. In so many ways I am fucking jealous that they get to 'discover' such cracking sci-fi for the first time.Hopefully they'll then give Hardware a go...ahhh, memories...Let's be honest, Transformers is living proof that enough bang on screen for your bucks combined with a hot piece of ass is enough to generate many, many millions of dollars come the summer. And Salvation has heritage in its story, too...People are drooling for this sort of stuff and I hope Salvation delivers...it beats reading about the economy going tits up.

    by dannyglovers_dickblood

John Connor jumps into the time-machine thing as an explosion goes off-- the flux capacitor is thrown outta whack and somehow he is launched back in time to 1966, to the jungles of Vietnam. John quickly grabs some clothes off a dead G.I. and crawls through the mud, realizing he is in the past and hearing the V.C.'s approaching. He hears a skirmish being waged in a nearby valley and looks down to spot the Americans at war with T-800'S?!!! What the fuck. Some crazy....alternatate time-line Back To The Future shit is going on here. But imagine if the Terminators were in bed with North Vietnam = TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION.

    by turdontherun

This trailer was passable at best. Im surprised so many folks round here seem to get a hard on for 'splosions and transformer bots. Bale looks suitably intense, I'll give you that, and I did like the shot of the endoskeleton crawling on the ground, but this will be summer blockbuster fluff that will be long forgotten after the silly season has ended. And what's with the NIN music playing over the trailer? Faux-nihilism for the angry social reject set, and cynically designed to make the movie appear 'hardcore' and 'badass' to goth teen males. How 'apocalyptic'! It's like the end of the world, dude! Trent Reznor is the father of emo -you know this to be true!I expect this flick will be a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours, but nothing earth-shattering. Cameron need not be worried anytime soon. As Bale said: "Leave it to the fucking professionals!"

    Continuity

    by queerfilmjunkie

For those bitching about a lack of continuity in the look of the future war versus the look of the future war in T1, you should really go back and watch T1. The future war scene at the beginning of T1 is so bad that when I saw in on VHS in 1987 I thought it was some kind of bad joke. Thank Bale this movie does not look like that. As for CGI/versus real stunts, I understand some have an affinity for real stunts, but when it was released T2 had about as much CGI in it as any movie that had ever been made. So if your are simultaneously fellating Cameron for T2 and disemboweling McG for using CGI in T4, you are a fucking hypocrite.

    by burnhollywood

T-600s have a known weakness to being struck sharply in the vicinity of their primary processing unit. Evidently, this involuntary flaw was carried on to the T-800s and left intact in their "sleepers", so in the event of superficial injury they don't reveal their near-invulnerability to the human resistance.

Watch it happen. Oh my god, I think some of you are going to commit suicide. Maybe Avatar will be really fuckin' good, but, cmon, you know, YOU KNOW in your heart its not going to be. You know what its going to be? The Abyss. Your gonna get all riled up for something great and its gonna be... a dull thud. Search your feelings, you KNOW it to be true. Oh, you might even make excuses for it. Lord knows I did when The Phantom Menace came out. But slowly... slowly but surely, it became impossible for me to deny that The Phantom Menace sucked and Lucas had completely lost his mind and soul to the darkside... the dumbside... (but then he got his shit together for episode 3), but I digress. You know in your heart of hearts, I'm right. Oh, and for the record, I'd be pleased as punch if Avatar comes out and rocks the multiverse; I just know that it won't.

Ah... no. I'm not going to drop the argument. I think you're wrong for feeling like it's ok for the film to be PG-13. And the "Terminator" police station massacre... was R-rated. Very much so. As was Arnold cutting out and replacing his eye, Arnold ripping the punk's heart out of his chest, and Arnold delivering, "Fuck you, asshole." Still think the sex scene is the only reason the film is R-rated?
    Ok. How about:
*Arnold getting his chest blown out and falling through a window
*The futuristic Terminator mowing down kids in the background
    *The word "fuck"

    by veebeeyes

That Marcus really IS a human who was mechanized by humans before Judgement Day happened? I mean, correct me if I'm wrong about that, but everything I've heard about his character has said that he was executed before Judgement Day, was experimented on, and then wakes up in a future world full of robots. I may be wrong. But if that's the case, I'd find that actually sort of cool. I think it'd be cool to have a human character who was turned into a cyborg by man, only to have him awaken in a world in which machines are trying to prefect the science that enables them to become more human. If you were to place an emphasis on this kind of character and examine who and what he really is, that could serve as a device to better connect/distance the relationship between the humans and the Terminators. Honestly, if that were true, that could potentially turn out to be a very brilliant addition to the series. But then again, that's probably a fake rumor just like the rumor about John Connor being killed and then having his face implanted onto Marcus' body.

That looked great. Only seen it via my work computer so no sound or music and it still kicked my ass! Much as I love the original Terminator trilogy, T4 could not have been a simple JC versus robot from the future movie. We’ve been there, done that. McG seems to be delivering something very different and I like what I’ve seen so far. You can nitpick this all you want; the Harvester looking like a TF for one thing. But if we can accept that Skynet can create flying HK’s why not an oversized cherry picker?

As to the question of Marcus and whether or not he is a Terminator or a human? Why is this still up for debate? He is clearly a cyborg. He has a metal endoskeleton including a METAL skull. But he also has an exposed human heart and the capacity to feel pain. So someone – whether Skynet, the human military or someone yet to be introduced (HELLO HELENA!) has figured out how to transfer a human consciousness into an artificial brain. The cyborg part being explained away as the technology is not perfected yet – the ultimate goal being the transplantation of human minds in full T-800 exoskeletons – the ultimate stealth terminator – one who does not even know they are one until they are ACTIVATED! That’s what I think anyway. Anyone agree?

Seems to me that not only did Skynet send Terminators back to the past to kill JC but someone (Skynet/HBC?) has sent back Marcus to kill him from T4’s future. I’m guessing though that Marcus will undergo the classic will vs programming struggle that was done so poorly in T3. We may even see humans willing to undergo the process of CYBERTERMINIFICATION (copyright GlasgowChivas 2009) in the rest of the trilogy.

    by glasgowchivas

I haven’t seen the show so maybe you can help me. Do the characters in BSG want to be human or cylon once they are revealed? As I think this is the angle they will play up in T4. Will Marcus, a man who has been exectuted, experimented on and send out of his time use his new go-go terminator-arms to help or harm the resistance?

What The Characters In BSG Want

    by laserpants

Ultimately is to find a home, preferably Earth. BUT, it turns out that these immortal enemies -- the humans and the cylons -- are actually totally intertwined genetically and in terms of historical / psychological / spiritual memory. Its not so much that one wants to turn into the other, but that the two sides are inexorably merging into one new species -- organic and technology combined. Looks like T4 is exploring similar themes. (Btw, The Matrix Mythos did something similar to this too).

Thanks for the explanation. I personally wouldn't mind seeing this storyline develop - perhaps in T4's future mankind can only survive by adpoting cybernetic bodyparts - perhaps Marcus is sent back to convince JC that this is the path mankind should be heading down. I would then like to see JC be unable to accept that; commiting himself and the resistance to nothing other than total fucking destruction of Skynet and the machines.

The way you rank it for Bale/Non-Bale films....

    by dannyglovers_dickblood

If you're doing a 1-10 scale, every film starring Lord Bale starts off at a 9 without having seen a minute of it. Every film NOT starring Bale starts out at a 2. Every film starring Bale as a minor character starts out at an 8. Then we go from there. But the actual ranking of the film after having viewed it can only go down a maximum of 1 point depending on whether or not you liked it. If Bale is not in it, there is no maximum point change after viewing, yet it can never rank higher than a 5.
    Godfather 2 = 5

The theatrical Abyss's ending doesn't make a lick o'fucking sense - the aliens are practically a deux es machina in that version. The wave was the whole point of the fucking film - a metaphor for how Bud and Lindsay's love saved the world. Too cheesy for you, or just boring? Guess you just think completely random shit is cool, instead of watching movies for what they actually say. I'd like to see Jim Cameron cut off your nuts with a samurai sword, you dirty cunt! Secondly, and most importantly, how do you know that Avatar will only be as good as the abyss? You can only make that assessment based on the idea that they are at least similar movies. Again, have you read the fucking scriptment? Even though its very out of date, Its full of action (aliens style) and is really a mix of aliens, star wars, with a little bit of the matrix thrown in. Unlike the abyss (which you could say is a science fiction thriller) avatar is a full blown action science fiction space epic. So please explain your comparison.

    by theplant

Wasn't that it was cut -- it was that Aliens were included in it. I love the director's cut, too, but it's a movie which tries to be more than what it is at heart : a love story.
It would have been the best Cameron movie ever made, if all there was to it was a nuclear submarine crash, and the rest of the underwater drama, no Aliens, period, climaxing with the death of Michael Biehn ressurection of Lindsey. If only more time would have been devoted to that, rather than SFX shots and shots of people marveling to Close Encounter like lights, then it would be the best Cameron movie ever made.
