TR2N Story Details Reveal A Little More About What Kosinski & Co. Are Up To!!

Published at:  Mar 02, 2009 4:33:40 PM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

Merrick here...

Got these details out of Vancouver, where the TRON sequel is currently in production.

The source is trustworthy, so these details represent an accurate snapshot of the film (keeping in mind productions of this nature may be a bit fluid, and certain elements could be reworked between now and the film's 2011 release).

My Geeky heart is going pitter patter. Really can't wait to glimpse material from this film - stuff we can actually see, unlike this heinously inadequate Comic Con shakycam from last year:

BEWARE SPOILERS!!!

Here's User 2.0...
The title will almost certainly NOT be TRON 2 or TR2N. Possibly something with a colon - TRON: ________.

The story takes place approximately 25 years after the original.

The movie starts in 1989. Kevin Flynn (Bridges) has created some of the world's top selling games based on his Game Grid challenges in the first film, and has marketed the hell out of what he saw there (action figures, Recognizer night lights, yadda yadda yadda).

Flynn has a seven year old son named Sean.

Flynn disappears, leaving behind his son.

Alan Bradley (Boxleitner) takes over Flynn's company (ENCOM).

Jump forward in time: Sean is now twenty something.

Alan Bradley has info that leads Sean to look for Flynn.

Search takes Sean to Flynn's old arcade - mothballed.

Into the computer world goes Sean.

There's a CLU character (Flynn's computer alter-ego from the first film).

Flynn has programmed CLU to run around and make a better computer world, but CLU's gone corrupt and is creating his own interpretation of that perfect world. This is why CLU (young Bridges) is being such a punk-ass in that Comic Con footage we saw.

CLU has it out for a kind of program called ISOs & wants to eradicate them.

The ISOs believe Sean Flynn is the one who will free them from CLU's belligerence.

Somewhere in the computer world, the real Kevin Flynn is whizzing around in a classic Light Cycle. Will he help in the battle against CLU?

Light Jets have jet walls, too.

Light Cycles versus Light Jets.

Big Disc battle!

Bridges going all out for this role. Embracing it. Fans will go gaa gaa.

[END OF LINE]
USER 2.0

I *sooooo* want a Recognizer night light. How cool would that be?

Out of any movie coming out in the near future, I would argue TR2N has the potential to be a huge hit. Bridges will own this role, the CGI will be amazing, and it sounds fun. I shall predict right now this could go over 100 million and be the kind of movie that gets a few Oscar nods for production, sfx, and Bridges possibly for best supporting actor.

What do I have to do to see this movie sooner, put myself in a medically-induced coma until its release date??? Although the ideas posted are a little scattershot, the drive behind them feels like it'll make a good Tron story. Hopefully they get Lisberger to keep them on track, since Tron is a tad allegorical to the way we humans deal with religion and spirituality (programs = people, users = god) which made for a fascinating undercurrent without being rammed down our throats.

    Good Pitch...

    by henry fool

I gotta admit, I like the story idea. I love the idea of Flynn disappearing in the prologue and his son growing up to be the new hero. Hopefully the film will be "into" it's own mythology and make Flynn feel like mythic figure while his kid is searching for him.

It's just awesome that Jeff and Bruce are reprising their roles. And I dig the idea of having their Tron Avatars staying young. I think the aging CG technology is still kind of bland. But the strange lighting style of the Tron world should add another buffer that makes the effect look real. I must admit, I'm really looking forward to this one.

I saw Tron in the theaters twice when I was a kid. The second time was in a double feature with Star Wars at the Westlake Village Twin (which is now a Laemle theater). That was the first time I ever saw Star Wars, too :-). Fuzzy memories...

    Much obliged, and prayers said.

Haven't heard of nando's, but I'll look for it. Is it on the East coast?

Fortunatly my wife has one of those federal civil service jobs with the Census, and I think she'd get a raise if she shit on her bosses desk...they are kind of perverted those census folks.

I already have one job offer, a dream job in fact, managing a theater once again. The only problem is that my wife's GREAT job will not transfer her to Indy, and then there's the small problem of selling our home for equal to or (pardon me while I stiffle a guffaw) more than we paid for it. This would get me back to within 90 miles of my beloved Louisville, but for now it just dosen't seem in the cards. Speaking of Cards....at least I get to stay home and watch March Madness. The UofL Cardinals are kicking ass, so watch them this year!

    Much love to y'all!

No Politics in the Tron Talkback!

    by kevinwillis.net

It is sacrilege. All politicians are like smeared streaks of bird excrement on the asphalt of life, compared to Tron.Well, they are pretty much like that, anyway. But especially compared to Tron.Because that's Tron. He fights for the Users.

How in the hell could you be confused by the 1982 Tron movie?

    by mr incredible

The plot is simple enough and easy enough for anyone to follow. Now, calling they movie "TR2N"? That would have been confusing. I'm glad they are dumping that crap.

    Oh, and by the way...

    by kentucky colonel

I'm watching the 20th aniversary DVD on my "upscaling" dvd player on my new 46" Samsung LCD. God Damnit does it look fantastic! If you can still find one, the Samsung LNA630 fucking RULES! The LNA650 has a better contrast ratio (50,000:1 as opposed to 40,000:1) but the screen is glossy like a mirror and will reflect any light source in front of it just like a mirror. The 630 has a matte finish which decreases the contrast ratio, but I can keep my lamp on the table with minimum reflection. When you compare stats, most LCDs have a contrast ratio of 7500:1 up to 10,000:1...all I'm saying is my blacks are darker than your blacks. I'm talking Wesley Snipes/Seal black levels, knowhutImean?

Still sucks that they weren't able to work in Cindy Morgan's as Lora. Why couldn't Lora be the mom of the kid? Thanks guys for bringing back It really sucks that they brought back Jeff & Bruce, but not Cindy Morgan.

The End of the Tron Legacy

This film will do for Tron what Facebook and Myspace have done to the memory of that girl/boy you had a crush on in grade school. See my website for better ideas: www.tronsequel.com

    The Legacy of TRON . . .

    by rumplewho

is Pixar, NeXT, Jurassic Park, Netscape, Yahoo, Quake, Matrix, and the MacBook I'm typing this post on. TRON is not a fucking movie franchise. TRON is a glimpse outside of the cave.

    Fuck the Tron haters

    by orcus

This movie was way ahead of the curve in 1982 and it still holds it's own. I bet folks talk shit about about ray Harryhausen and his stop motion work. While CG has made stuff easier, it really hasn't made it better in alot of cases

    by zodnotgod

I would suck a dick to see this movie right NOW and I'm not even gay.
To all those morons who complain about "CG"; they really need to shut their gobs. It's a as ridiculous as complaining about a movie being in black & white.
