AICN & Titan Books Want To Give You One Of Three Copies Of WATCHMEN: THE FILM COMPANION!! Act Fast - Deadline Tonight!!

Published at:  Mar 02, 2009 10:05:21 AM CST

Merrick here...

You may have heard about this nutty little movie called WATCHMEN which opens later this week.

Not surprisingly, several image/design intensive books are accompanying the film's release. We'll have a fuller look at a few of these titles in the coming days, but...for the moment...I wanted to give you a chance to bag ONE OF THREE copies of a cool WATCHMEN movie related publication.

It's called WATCHMEN: THE FILM COMPANION & it's from Titan Books (WEBSITE HERE).

It's chock full of pictures and information (including a few cool "backstory" shots of characters who don't get tons of play in the film). I personally think this would be an excellent primer for WATCHMEN virgins/folks who don't remember the graphic novel too well, and a solid refresher for more hard core fans. I've only had a chance to glance through this title briefly, but it seems pretty damn cool...

Here's how it works:

** Sometime between the time you read this and five minutes to midnight CST USA tonight (March 2), send an e-mail to me via the link below.

** Include your name and mailing address in this e-mail. The address is to expedite prize shipment only and will be summarily discarded once book recipients are chosen. No spam, no mailing lists, etc.

** CONTEST IS OPEN TO INTERNATIONAL READERS!!!

** Be sure to send from an ACTIVE (and frequently checked) E-MAIL ACCOUNT. If I try to reach you & my message bounces back? I'll trash your win and move on to the first contestant I can reach.

** ONE ENTRY PER NAME/ADDRESS. Only your first entry will be kept, duplicates will be instantly trashed.

** I've already pre-selected THREE times of day (one in the morning, one in the afternoon, one in the evening). The person who e-mails me at (or closest to) one of these three times will receive a copy of the book.

** The three recipients will be notified tomorrow morning.

** Your names will be announced to the world in a follow-up to this post sometime tomorrow.

** Titan will have your addresses in hand tomorrow morning & they've been kind enough to handle fulfillment in this contest.

We'd like to thank the fine folks over at Titan for their cooperation, enthusiasm and..well...for making this possible. Look for further details re: this title, as well as other WATCHMEN film related books from Titan, over the next few days.

E-MAIL ME HERE!!!

Have fun & good luck!

Posted without a refresh. Er, I guess the more you know (and knowing is half the battle).

Pretty nice prize - it would be cool to get this before we see it (hitting up an IMAX on Sunday).

Rorchach's mask is not latex. It was cut out of a dress for fuck's sake.

    WTF LATEX MASK

    by turketron

Seriously, how the fuck would you be able to breathe through a latex mask? Srsly. I know it was cut out of a dress, but what's the deal with the changing shapes of the rorshach blots? It's some kind of special fabric that allows it to do that, right?

Rorschach's mask has a LAYER of LATEX...

    by bob loblaw law blog

that suspends the two pressure and heat-sensitive liquids so they are "always changing, never mixing into grey." The mask itself is made out of the fabric of a dress... the latex is just inner lining.Look it up! ;)

Rorschach's mask in his own words...

    by bob loblaw law blog

This is directly from WATCHMEN, VOL. 6, page 11, which I have here next to me: "1962. Special order for dress in new Dr. Manhattan spinoff fabric. Viscous fluids between two layers latex, heat and pressure sensitive.Customer young girl, Italian name. Never collected order. Said dress looked ugly.Wrong. Not ugly at all.Black and white moving. Changing shape.. but not mixing no gray.Nobody wanted it. Meant for me. Took it home. Learned to cut it using heated implements to reseal latex. When I had cut it enough, it didn't look like a woman anymore."

What did that line mean, anyway?

When I had cut it enough, it didn't look like a woman anymore.

    I think it meant...

    by bob loblaw law blog

that it was no longer a piece of fashion (aka feminine), which would hold no value for him. After being cut, it was a symbol of Rorschach's view on the world where everything is black and white... no moral ambiguity. That's just my guess there. Alan Moore said, that Rorschach is an "extremely right-wing character," and every EXTREME right-winger I know is rather homophobic (I grew up in a tiny, conservative town in rural Oregon). God forbid they have anything someone might consider the least bit feminine (I have like two pink ties and my most conservative male friends act like they are the token symbol of closeted homosexuality).

Yeah, but why don't we see the latex layer on top?

    by sith witch

I wouldn't mind not specifically seeing the latex so long as it's described to the audience (which will have mostly newbies) that's how the blots work.

I think the laytex is underneath the fabric...

    by bob loblaw law blog

so, we wouldn't see it on top. The comic is not completely clear.Besides, it's a Dr. Manhattan-made fabric, so it's not even real.
