Let us know what you think. Also is there anyone who has seen it who has not read the book? I wonder what you think as well.

One more week, the movie comes out, we can all go watch it, and chew it to death, and then move on with our lives, thank goodness.

Actually, yes, that will probably be a big point of interest, hearing the opinions of people who see the movie but who had NOT read the book. They may see the movie, be impressed, then read the book and get to the end and say WT?? A giant squid?? WTF?? LOL

.... but I'm actually looking forward to Margaret and David's review of Watchmen. I can't imagine either of those two having read a book with pictures in it, and it will be interesting to see what their medium to high-falutin' opinion is.

I have not seen it yet but it is undenaible form the reviews that it appears to be a very solid film. This surprises me a great deal as the clips I have seen and the obvious changes made to the ending, Nite Owl 2, cutting Nite Owl1 s death scene, the horrible aging make up etc., and the uniform criticism by those who have seen it of the flawed thrird act would make me think it's a horrible. I am anxoius to download it in a few weeks and check it out. I have a feeling that my take will be lesser than than some of the hyperbole we have seen here, but time will tell.

....it 'works' and that's whats way most important - despite the klunky script etc

But yeah, I fucking hate the way that Channel Nine commentators try to chip in with their two cents on films and the like. I remember Karl Stefanovic and the disgraceful chick commentating about Dev Patel and how this must be so overwhelming for him, when compared to the slums... How hard is it to fact check and figure that the guy was raised in relative wealth in England? I may be nitpicking, but fuck it.

does more to make me optimistic about the film than anyone else's. Or not that oddly. given what a great reviewer he is, I suppose.
Feb. 28, 2009, midnight CST
That is pretty fucking embarrassingly cringeworthy. Did they not realise the guy's an *actor*? Did they not get that the younger version of him were played by *different* actors? Not to mention that even they weren't likely real slumdogs. Jesus.

erichaislar and Big_Daddy_Nero: I'm dying to know what non-fans think. All the reviews I've now read (after I finished writing my own) are from people who have read it. The people I saw it with had also read it. I've got NO idea what the public will make of this.

MMacKK: Don't blame Karl Stefanovic; blame his programming.

raw_bean: Ohhhh, shucks with the flattering... Fun fact about my review: when I started writing it, it was 8/10. When I finished, I went back to the top and changed it to 9/10. As much as you like it when you walk out of the cinema, it actually gets better the more you think about it. How great is that?

you are funny latauro.

I asked over a dozen people at work on Friday if they had heard of watchmen. All of them said no. At first I thought well i must be the only cool one hear but as the day wore on I got more and more appauled! I think theres been so many superhero movies that most people who haven't heard of it might dismiss it and think eh I'm over superheroes. I hope I'm wrong and non comic book people feel like they want to watch this movie.

...that you and Moriarty were the best reviewers on this site. I'm convinced this move to Hitfix on his part was the result of some sneaky machination of yours to claim clear pole position.
Anyway, that sounds fantastic. I love a film that takes a while to sink in, and just gets better and better over time until you just have to go see it again. And it fits perfectly for Watchmen, since just keeps getting better every time I read it.
As for the Watchmen-uninitiated masses, my flatmate and I are both fans but we're hopefully taking a big group of friends (who're still virginal when it comes to Alan Moore) to see it next weekend, so that'll be really interesting.

I got bored with their telecast so I just turned off the volume and listened to the live updates on spill.com

Who is this Latauro guy? Why do we care about this movie anymore - it's been out in the states for like a year! I don't get your jokes! Sorry, it felt weird reading your column's talkback without seeing any unjustified hate. Awesome column as always. Imax Watchmen tickets purchased :)
Feb. 28, 2009, 6:41 p.m. CST
you might as well say he's too crazy, get Tom Cruise!
Feb. 28, 2009, 7:42 p.m. CST
don't know the plot, the characters, not much at all really. only what I've gleaned hearing people whine in the Heroes talkbacks about Kring stealing from it.
so I'll see it this Friday and be a good litmus test for the average moviegoer that's going in naked.
meaning, I'm actually going to go watch the movie in a theater naked.

You'll have to make a journal and tell us all about it. With pics.

...But I don't watch television.
I'll have to throw molotov cocktails through their front windows instead.

Seriously. They never play any show in order. There are random CSI episodes all over the joint. They relegate great shows into crappy timeslots, and whenever I turn it on nowadays Two and Half Men seems to be the only show on!
