By Baltar's Beard!! Universal Plotting Big-Screen BATTLESTAR GALACTICA??

Published at:  Feb 20, 2009 6:47:12 PM CST

I am – Hercules!!

Universal is apparently plotting a new “Battlestar Galactica” movie for cinemas – but not from Ron Moore, the “Star Trek” vet who masterminded the current acclaimed SciFi series.

Instead Universal is turning to TV vet Glen A. Larson, who created the 1978 original and its sequel, “Galactica 1980.”

The movie apparently will have nothing to do with the continuity of the current series, but will feature the characters of Adama and Baltar, according to James Hibberd’s Live Feed blog.

The SciFi series manifests evidence that a “Galactica” movie could be something truly wonderful if they hire the right guy or gal (COUGH*JaneEspenson*COUGH) to write it.

Larson’s many other small-screen credits include “Knight Rider,” “B.J. and the Bear,” “Sheriff Lobo,” “Buck Rogers,” “Quincy, M.E.,” “Manimal,” and “Automan.”

Find details in James Hibberd’s story here.

Welcome Back Glen Larson & The Galactica Theme Music, I Can't Wa

    by media messiah

I want to see Battlestar Galactica as it was originally meant to be, original transcendent theme music, opening narration, and all. Ron Moore's show is excellent, but it is Galactica in name only. They should have just given it a different title, and went with it instead of cannibalizing the original show for ideas. Bring back the ancient astronaunt focas of the series, the Egyptian style pilot helmets, Vipers with thruster chemical trails...that can reverse on a dime...and fly backwards...and a male Starbuck who is a womanizing misogynist, who really has a heart of gold, and truly loves women and people but is just to afraid to show it, fearing people will see him as being week. That is why I loved that character, he was a bold badass, who was really shy...but hid his shyness under the cover of brash roguish exploits and manner.Ron Moore and the female head of The Sci-Fi Channel didn't get it, and never understood the character...and the fact that he really respect women, so they emasculated him, and turned him into a female??? If you can't understand that character, how can you truly understand the other nuances of the original show...or even try???

They are going to make a BG movie that has nothing to do w/ the series, yet features two characters from the series, they are not not going to involve the hugely popular (and acclaimed) show's writers, instead they will put the production in the hands of a has been 70's TV writer? Am I missing something here? This seriously makes no sense...guess that's why I'm not making the big bucks.

It's like you a-holes would rave about "Bibleman" over the infinetly superior "Dark Knight". The new "Galactica" is amazing and has redefined the genre. Glen A. Larson needs to stay away from Galactica. Ron Moore is the true genius behind Galactica.

    by inactionman

He owns the big screen rights. Throw enough cash at him and he will let Ron Moore and Company do their thing.

The Only way this is viable as a big screen property is to do a Cylon War I movie. With twenty battlestars against twenty to thirty base ships and a ground assault.

I vote Ray Stevenson for Commander Dash the first commander of the BSG.

I love the original. I've come to love the remake. I think both are great. I don't know why you would make a movie now though unless it's based on the new one. I know Larson created the original, and I can understand him wanting another shot at his masterpiece, but I just don't think it will sell. Especially because it will probably be seen as a lame attempt at being like Star Wars...and that would doom it from the beginning. Let's just stick with the new series ending, and look forward to Caprica...No more remakes!!

    by thesecondquest

I really see BSG as something that should be continually remade...but every 15-20 years at least. And each incarnation should be something different. You have the campy adventure of the original series, the intense and dark drama of the current series- the next one should be something in between like B5, Farscape, Stargate or Firefly. Something that can bring the intense moments of drama and character development, but also isn't afraid to work in the adventure and occasional moment of humor into an episode (the current BSG experimented with humor and adventure back in the first season with episodes like Tigh Me UP Tigh me Down and The Hand of God, but never really followed up on it in the subsequent seasons).

In the series, a one-minute scene with Adama having a drink would have more impact than you could build up with what will essentially amount to an one-hour space battle and one hour of scrabbling to introduce and build characters.

    weird--but we've heard this beforfe

    by wixmmm

I'm not sure i get this... a double reboot? c'mon... i used to think people were stupid for saying this, but i think i've changed camps: Where have the days of new movies with new stories gone? It seems like most of the movies coming out are adapted from something... A LONG time ago, i remember this director said he had rights to a battlestar galactica movie, but no one thought it'd get made because of the success of the reboot, so the idea kinda fell under the radar. I do agree that they should have not called the new show 'battlestar galactica' and instead just blatantly rip off the parts of the show that are still in the reboot. Bsg2003, with a title other than 'battlestar galacica' would have, without a doubt, had far, far more viewers--writers on other shows (south park, the office) reference battlestar 2003, and while the reference itself is a show of respect, it is also an EASY joke to people who haven't seen bsg2003. People laugh when they hear it, and are reluctant to give it a chance. But back to the title issue, if they're gonna do a movie like this, with an old director who can't seem to move on with his life, they should call it something else and rip off elements of the original and the reboot... it would have been more suited to change the name of bsg2003, but you can't change the past, but you can change the name of this movie (which i'd bet alot of money doesn't get made).

    by wixmmm

I'll admit i never saw the original show, but it sounds like the original guy starbuck was a bad ass, kind of a rebel, and a womenizer... those elements of the female starbuck are all intact... starbuck the chic is interesting because she is such a bad ass, you can't really call her a slut--she just sleeps around... i admire that about the show--starbuck sleeps around, but gets away with it... i don't think you see many women characters who pull that off--its a testament to both sackhoff and moore's vision of the character.

    by murdermostfowl

The whole world cried foul when the RDM BSG Mini series was over. I actually got into an argument with my inlaws, with them telling almost exaclty what Media Messiah said about how Starbuck has to be a womanizer because.... uh.. that's a deep respectable character...?? I have to sit back and smile now that the success of the new BSG has almost literally turned the old series into something quaint and interesting, rather than the untouchable revered franchise it supposedly was. This BSG movie will be silly. What's the point.
( I would like to see some more viper action in RDMs series though... odd that DS9 has such amazing "war" arc and he didn't do this with BSG. Id's say that's what's deeply missing from this last season and the 3rd... some really awesome action episodes and an ongoing war arc.

regarding a Larson BSG movie...just make it a sequel to the original tv show...same style ships etc etc..cast Hatch and Benedict as Apollo and Starbuck in supporting roles (like Nimoy got cast in the new film)...and have their 20 something kids as the main stars. I mean what else could they do?..another reboot? and recast Appollo and Starbuck AGAIN...aint gonna happen..esp with Larson callin the shots.

oh yeah and forget Galactica 80 existed (although The Return of Starbuck was pretty cool)

The current TV BSG exists in its own universe completly.

Man i bet Hatch and Benedict and praying to the gods of Kobol this movie happens and they get called up...like Nimoy did..

From 'hey didnt you used to be in the old BSG' or 'heys its the big brother guy!' to starring in a $70-$100 million Sci Fi movie...

    vipers reversing

    by wixmmm

I think one of the not so talked about but cool things of the reboot is the way the ships fly--the way the manuever seems so real, and i do NOT think the ability to reverse would make them cooler--i think the way they kinda flip to change directions looks awesome, and also more realistic.

    by wixmmm

This is in no way like serenity. Serenity had a very clear purpose--to make a good movie with a reletively low budget that tied up the loose ends from a great show cancelled before its prime... i always felt serenity was for the fans first...and if it made lots of money--great, the show might have been revived. Whedon's great, we know this, but what he did with serenity is the biggest reason i respect the guy so much--he somehow was able to make a movie that finished his show, but the movie could be watched and understood by the average viewer who hasn't seen a minute of the show. I saw it with my little brother who i had to drag to come see it, and he completely understood it and was suprised at how much he liked it.

Because Universal is going to want to keep the franchise alive in some form (and not just through Caprica). In principle I'm not opposed, since as a fan of the original series growing up I'd love to revisit that version of that world again. But like many others, I've been more than converted by the new show; I think it's possibly the best show that's ever been on television, period--and that's saying a lot for me, since I was an original "hater". So, we'll see. Personally, I'd be just as happy to see a Buffy, Babylon 5 or (yes, I'm saying it) TWIN PEAKS revival on the big screen...

The SciFi channel version of Galactica won't ever be a in-theater movie because they don't own the rights. This is almost certainly Larson trying to con people into thinking it will happen. This is as likely to happen as a V movie at the same time as the V mini-series remake.

    Wixmmm: The Original Starbuck

    by media messiah

He was an orphan and slept around as a mask for who he really was, he just didn't trust anyone to be close to him...but after the colonies fell, he began to change and settled into a relationship. What was cool about the dynamc iis it is one thing if a man is a womanizer, to see the conversion and the fact that that was not the real him, but a woman being a sleep around just doesn't have that same impact, given the issues of sexism that the character, as originally invisioned, represented. That is what was so cool about him. The female version of Starbuck was found in Sheeba, Commander Cane's badass daughter, who was the head of the Silver Spar Squadron. She eventually became Apollo's main love after his wife (Jane Seymour) died of Cancer. Sadly, they never used Sheeba in the new Galactica.

    Messiah: starbuck's conversion

    by wixmmm

C'mon Messiah-- Since you have a twisted view of morality, you can't see that Sackhoff's starbuck sleeping around does work, and does pull it off, and that is impressive. You also have a twisted view of alot of things, so i don't expect you to agree (cause agreeing is something you have a hard time doing) But Sackhoff's Starbuck also started out as a tough as nails pilot rebel who sleeps around and no one calls her on it because she's tough. But she goes through a much, much more complicated conversion that isn't just 'i slept around and now i'm settling down' You don't really know who sackhoff's starbuck loves, but it could be argued that she loves lee but also loves anders... she also struggles with the idea that she is special in some way, is called the harbinger of death by the hybrid, disappears then reappears in a new ship, finds her dead body and old ship that crashed on earth thousands of years ago, so she has to cope with that, and then she is also basically a daughter to adama (i challenge you to find any character in old/new bsg that makes a facial expression that says more than the smile she gave adama when she crashed and comandeered a cylon ship to get back to galactica.) Sackhoff's character has unbelievable amounts of depth, and she pulls off a role that is not easily pulled off... another actress could have done so miserable as the character starbuck is meant to be now, that the entire show could have failed because of one actress not being able to pull of one difficult role. Messiah, i think you just like to stir up trouble, and you show up here so often claiming to a) be a writer, but refuse to prove it and b) an actual influence on shows that you give opinions on. You are pretensious yet aren't smart enough to be truly pretensious... you keep showing up with opinions and suggestions that NOBODY likes... the only thing everyone thinks about you is that you are delusional and diluted.

Wixmmm: You Previous Said That I Had High Morals???

    by media messiah

What, about 4 days ago, when you were trying to get my writing samples, you complimented my morality as being of a high standard, now I have a twisted sense of morality, according to you??? Remember, I said that the Sopranos is immoral, and so is Sex In The City because their characters are shown as heroes, and that inspires people to follow their corrupt lead. Now if you think that any of those characters is positive...morally speaking, then it is you who have twisted morals. In the past, about 1 month ago, I got into a debate with a satanist and you guys attacked me, instead of him...calling me crazy...and not the satanist--please??? As for the new Starbuck, all I am saying is the gender didn't need to be changed, all they had to do is introduce Sheeba from the old show to play the female echo of Starbuck...as was with the original. Sackoff could have played Sheeba. This isn't an attack on Sackoff, it is a questioning of why the character of Starbuck or even Boomer were unnessarily changed. They changed them, clearly for authorship reasons...and to rip extra royalty points from Larson and company, the reason why Larson is now giving them, Moore and company, the finger. You and many others are angry because I won't pander to you the way you each glad hand and pander to one another, with the "hive mind" view of, "Let's all think alike, and those who have a contrary view to the mass opinion we shape...must be attacked, and called names and branded an outsider!" And you are still not getting my email address, or writing samples!!!

media messiah, morality, and mental health

    by wixmmm

Then you misread me. I never EVER have complemented your morality. I said 'twisted' form of morality... not that your opinions are immoral or moral, its that your morals are all over the place, that's why you have a twisted morality. You call people who go to wine country alchohalics. You view a female starbuck that sleeps around kind of a slut, but when a man sleeps around it's a cool character trait. You say that Dollhouse needed a more sexual element... i forget them all, but you seem to pick and choose what you view as moral or immoral with no ryhme or reason. I'm not gonna dig up all your moral-related posts, but there are a ton of them out there. Entertainment is escapism... sopranos was a deeply complex, well written, and yes a morally ambiguous show--that's what made it great. The way tony cried when his son tried to kill himself, and the sadness he showed visiting his son in a mental hospital is an unbelievably human, relateable plot point. There as alot of goodness in the sopranos, loyalty to friends and family, and it just so happened tony was a gangster, but nobody sees the sopranos and wants to kill people or become a gangster--it exposes alot of the terrible things that come with being involved in the mob... if sopranos inspires such evil, would you say the same about Frank Miller's comics? The columbine shooters were obsessed with miller--how many killers have been influenced by the sopranos??? Sex and the City is full of sluts, but it also is full of a bunch of human truths, but yeah, they're sluts, but at the age they are, them being sluts makes alot more sense and isn't nearly as bad as a group of young 20 year old girls sleeping around. But here's where you get twisted: dollhouse needs more sex, according to you. Nothing you will ever say will get me to change my opinion of you, and i know i'm not the only one--you lose all credibility when you are so convinced your opinion impacts a show or movie... i mean, to think that is really, and literally, insane. And don't call yourself a writer when you try to say college writing majors don't help someone write better--its all within you apparently... geeze... and you refuse to let me read something you wrote, even though i meant then, and still mean now, that i will give you an honest, unbiased opinion of it. You're a joke, and you need to realize that when people call you delusional, they literally mean it--you are delusional, and probably should see a psychologist--and that's coming from an honest to god functioning schizophrenic (seriously, i am schizophrenic, and my doctor would either put me on a ton of medication or put me in a mental health hospital if i told him that i believe what i post on a message board has an impact on what a showrunner does with his show.)

Is the amount of time they spend on political bullshit. Like the new Star Wars movies it's grating after a while. Shut the fuck up and fire a gun already! Also the limited tv budget keeps the new Galactica from showing the scope that's needed at times. The Cylon Basestar interior shots with that girl in the goo-filled bathtub are kinda cheap looking. And the Centurians still look VERY digital at times and get almost no screen time. A movie could remedy these problems. I'm a fan of the new show btw...Just getting tired of the drawn out subplots that have been going on for YEARS. Season 1 was the best IMO.

Dirk's starbuck was conflicted he was just tough and held it in... still waters run deep. the chick starbuck is conflicted but she walks around yelling and cursing to show she's tough because she's a fraking chick and Moore doesn't have the balls to have someone punch in a woman's face when she runs her mouth like a man would.

And the truth is: Universal can't legally make a BSG movie without him, as he retained the feature rights to all his TV show properties. Even the Razor movie was a subject of legal discussion cause it was feature length and stand-alone-

The 00's series has transformed the image of a dodgy 70's star wars rip off (and yes I really dug the thing back in the day) into one of the greatest things in the entire science fiction cannon. This New movie is about as promising as Joaquin Phoenix's new career direction.

Larson's been trying for this for years....

    by hint_of_smegma

.....almost as long as Hatch was trying to get the series back off the ground, long before 'new' BSG ever hit the screen. This is never going to happen. All of this never happened before, all of it will never happen again....I'm a fan of the old BSG, have been since it was first on tv back in the day. the new BSG is far, far better in almost everyway (except for Starbuck who is simply annoying). Going back to the original series continuity may be great for novels/comic books, but it's just not going to work on screen after Moore's Galactica. If Universal shell out money for this, colour me fucking surprised.

I drew a sillouette of a ninja (this was at the height of the ninja craze). Some jackass kid in class asked to see the drawing. He returned it sometime later, having traced my drawing, and embellishing it with armor. He then had the gall to exclaim, with a smug grin, "look, mine's better."This is the case with the new vs. OG BSG. It may or may not be superior, but it's still a rip off.

    These rights!

    by calvart

Look, I'm not arguing artistic value here, just laying out the legal facts. Larson "flobbed it up" means he is the creator of the property. At the time - in his contract - he maintained the rights to a theatrical version of it, while the producers naturally have the rights to TV incarnations.
Now Larson couldn't make a Feature based on new BSG, since - as you point out - it is Moore who created that - based on old BSG.
But Larson can always - legally - make a feature based on the concept, story, characters and such, since he can base it on old BSG. Moore (or whoever holds the rights there) can't, since the rights SciFi channel are holding only cover TV series.

The geek dream obviously would be...

    by calvart

...Glen Larson and Ron Moore cooperating on a feature version. But that is even more unlikely than Larson getting it off the ground alone, as I know for a fact that Larson is not a huge fan of new BSG (for his own reasons). I'm speculating here, but I believe if SciFi (or anyone else) steps up and simply buys the rights from Larson, that would be the most likely scenario to see a BSG movie with the current actors.

Perhaps Battlestars vs. Basestars, military drama, Neat Cylons and some well created action would be a nice contrast to the "final five" / FTL aging/ Who is Daniel/ Gotcha retcon style writing that has dogged new BSG over the last two seasons.

Make the Cylons actual villians and create a straight forward storyline without the goofy ret-cons that are wrecking the new RDM version and this movie could do quite well.

    BSG Multiverse?

    by zath_ras

Larson is best known for cribbing theatircal properties and turning them in tv shows. B.J. and the Bear and Sheriff Lobo both camev out of the Smokey and the Bandit/Any Which Way but Loose era,
Buck Rogers and BSG were studio attempts to grab some Star Wars cash, Manimal was inspired by the prosthetic makeup advancements used in The Island of Dr Moreau and An American Werewolf in London, and Automan answered the question: what would happen if TRON could get out to the real world?

Larson's most original property, and probably his earliest was Quincy, M.E., a damn fine show in its day. Similarly, I can't think of a direct source for Knight Rider, so even though the show wasn't very good, I don't think he stole the idea directly off the screen.

I'm sure Larson's version of BSG would suck, but at least we might get a laugh out of it once in a while.

    by quake ii

wants to produce a cheesy 70's Galactica continuation movie? It's a well known fact that budget and NBC executives didn't allow Larson's true vision to make it to television in the 70's. He wrote the Cylons as a race of reptiles. Wicked looking humanoid reptiles. There were other grand idea that were never realized as well. This isn't 1978 anymore. I have no doubt a new theatrical Galactica would most likely be better than the last 3 Star Wars films. It would sure be more entertaining and less childish. The new series is awesome but starting to get stale FAST. Way too much drama that is no longer dramatic. They lost me at season 3. Making EVERYONE on the new series (you get my point) a Cylon was fucking stupid as well.

It's already hard enough to get people to take a show named "Battlestar Galactica" seriously, without having this kind of bullshit reboot of a reboot injected into their memory.

On a different note: I love the new BSG, and haven't missed a single episode, but even I must admit that Jane Espenson is responsible for the worst episodes of the series.

As a fan of the original I actually prefer the new show- it's way better produced, far more intense and well-written and just flat out entertaining. It would be a shame to see all that get rolled back for a big screen version of the original's thinly veiled Star Wars rip-off. Larson's great for his day but his day is taking concepts meant for 9 year olds and spinning them out into a weekly yarn. Like Knight Rider, AirWolf, etc- it's all about the cheesy effects or hardware gimmick. Good story, not so much.

Season 1 of the current series was good, but since then it's been mostly blah blah blah, arcane mythology and chicks talking about their feelings. They should call it "Desperate Housewives in Space." Jealous much, Glen A. Larson? Jealous that Moore's new "Battlestar" kicked the crap out of your old series, both stylistically and dramatically?
If a "Battlestar Galactica" movie is going to be made, it must be set in some part of the new televion series.
Because no one thinks of the original characters anymore. No one knows Starbuck as a dressed-for-disco womanizing man. Edward James Olmos owns William Adama. And Richard Hatch was much, much better as Tom Zarek than he ever was as Apollo.
Larson is month-old baloney, whereas Moore is freshly grilled steak.

    Moore's version:

    by nosferatu jones

Look, I "get" why critics and some fans love it, but I too am put off by the sheer oppressive, glum moroseness of it all. Believe me, I've tried many times to get into it, but it's just not FUN, in any way, shape or form. I'll always gravitate to the more escapist fare of sci-fi... I don't need to watch the sci-fi equivalent of the Holocaust and/or terrorism on a weekly basis. There's enough to feel bad about in the real world as it is... I don't need Edward James Olmos and his one expression/delivery adding to my general depression, dammit!

What's next? a movie version of Fantasy Island or the Love Boat?

    by labattsbleu

Honestly, the original BSG was a terrible show that did ok during a point in time where there was a lot more innocence in the viewing public...it will be a miserable failure at the theaters because the current generation of fans will see it as a spoof of a beloved show...If someone wants to finance this disaster, they should go ahead: it will be a train wreck in the theaters...

    Ah-ha! Richard Hatch's version!!!?

    by riskebiz

Could this be Hatch's big-screen version of the old series finally come to life? If they could re-work it to somehow get a bit of a tie-in to the new BSG as to how both universes could have existed as alternate histories or part of the "this has happened before and will happen again" theme the current BSG has ... it would be awesome. Also, Hatch has proven what a class act he is with the new BSG and giving him the Apollo role for this big-screen BSG would be a very, very cool thing.

    by candy ass monkey suit

in addition to a previous post, Hatch said that they were under a constant battle with The network regarding the stories for the original series..i believe they were planning something a bit darker, though not as dark as the current show and the network got cold feet and went in another direction with some of the stories. Ive heard Hatch say at a con i watched on youtube that they were pushing to get better scripts and drama on the show and if it had been picked up for a 2nd season we may have seen the show start to improve..look at all the shows over the yrs what started out shit then got really good. Larson isnt to blame for the tone for some of the original shows flaws. I doubt this movie will ever get made as the new show is still fresh in everyones minds and it seems weird to have this now. It's like having buffy remade now!
I wish people would respect the original show for the acheivement it was..sure it was cheesy in places and had a dumb robot dog but the characters were cool..the fx ..(which largely still hold up to this day) were decent and had a wicked score and theme tune. The new series isnt the messiah it has some flaws..a largely bland cast..save for katte sackhoff and eddie olmos and oh Richard hatch!..crap fx, a terrible theme tune and those fuckin zoom and pull back fx shots which are so annoying..amd lastly why does every character have to say frak every other word..yes..we know what it means..so boring.

Saw a 'trailer' that he came up with and showed at a con (before he got involved with Moore), and boy was it terrible. Hatch's work on the new BSG was incredible, but leave this man to his own devices and he'll produce some major crap.

I've never seen a bigger group of popmus, know-it-all, asswipes.

A BSG reboot by the original creators could be a great thing and FUCK, they have every right to take a stab at.

The new BSG is awesome, we all know that but it works in a way that in many ways is alien to the original spirit of BSG. A BSG inspired by the old aesthetic would take it down a nostalgic path. NOSTALGIA DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY EQUATE TO CHEESE! If handled properly, you'd get a clever continuation that carried the flavor of the original but with enough edge to remove the cheese.

    Fuckin know it alls.

Do the people who argue that the original is better actually believe that? Or are they just caught up in the misty eyed nostalgia of it all. I am old enough to remember the original and even as a kid I thought it was idiotic. Do you people remember the first regular episode of the original after the (not half bad) pilot movie? When the colonials, after barely escaping with their lives decide to take shore leaves on a DISCO CASINO PLANET? I know that's what I would do when I am running for my life from a race of genocidal machines. Compare that with the first regular episode of the new version, 33. Do you seriously want to make the argument that the crappy original is better? Really?

I'm pretty sure Glen L. Larsen is the only idiot who wants to see that. The old show was awful except for the theme song, concept, and special effects. Dirk Benedict was pretty cool, but he was just a Han Solo rip off. I mean, you have kids who grew up with Starbuck as a woman. It sounds weird and also from a logistical standpoint, if you're going to do a "BSG" movie, just use the sets and designs you already have from four years of quality television. Ron Moore drank Larson's milkshake with the first fucking mini-series and I'm surprised the old asshole hasn't killed himself out of shame. Oh well, there's still time before they start pre-production.

    by tai_pan

Who gives a fuck if Universal sanctioned it? That has nothing to do with the quality of RDM BSG. Nice job saying the fans of the New BSG only bitch and moan when you repeatedly post that RDM is a pussy. Are you Golen Larson, by chance? He probably says RDM is a pussy too, seeing as how RDM took his shitty and ridiculous Star Wars ripoff and turned it into one of the greatest shows of all time. And to whoever said that the VFX were shitty in the new series, you are out of your damn mind. There's nothing on TV that comes close to BSGs visual FX. I can't believe you said that with one breath and then praised the shitty shoe-string and tape FX of that godawful 70s1980 BSG. Anytime you want to compare that furby/monkey or the clearly-men-in-suit Cylons against the Battle of the Resurrection Ship, or the assault on New Caprica, or the attack from Hand of God, or the attack from Razor, you go right ahead and do that.

FINALLY, the REAL BSG that fans deserve

    by sithdan

I think I can speak for REAL BSG fans by saying that the televised excrement on the Sci-Fi Channel does NOT represent BSG as conceived by the great Glen Larson. That show has forgotten how to have fun by going for a "realistic" approach and lots of annoying shaky cam shots. For years the fans have waited for the return of their beloved epic, and this news has rekindled that hope.

    by royston lodge

Seems to me he might have been a fun choice to play Callum Keith Rennie's Cylon character. I like Rennie, but his Cylon was a little dull. Benedict could have maybe pulled off a performance similar to Lucy Lawless' "two-faced" Cylon. Like, in the company of humans he's good 'ol Dirk Benedict, and when he's in the company of Cylons he actually tries acting for a change of pace...

No the new series is not. It is "popular" but not "immensely popular". At about 3 to 4 million viewers a week, it'd be one half to one third as watched as an episode of Doctor Who - even if most of those people are British.

It's amazingly ambitious, it's not like anything else out there, and it shows just how far you can push genre TV. I'll believe it when I see it. I wonder if Universal has done their marketing research... will a continuation of the original series be accepted by the current built in fan base?

Obviously there are dedicated fans of the original (including myself). But, are here enough of us to make a feature film viable? I don't think so.

Also, I think with a recently concluded Galactica TV series and with a spin off in the works... a Galactica feature film that is not in the current continuity will just confuse non fans. Hell, Moore's BSG, while superb, is hard enough to follow as it is.
