Judd Apatow's FUNNY PEOPLE trailer looks outstanding!
Hey folks, Harry here... Devin over at CHUD's Facebook status mentioned he couldn't figure out how to embed the Trailer for FUNNY PEOPLE at MovieFone... SO I checked it out, it was easy enough. Devin, just SOURCE this page and rip the code buddy. Thanks for the heads up! Meanwhile, DAMN - since when could Adam Sandler play OLD? That's so fucked up. I mean. He kinda does look like a generation older than Seth Rogen. WHAT THE HELL? Really? How fucking old does that make me? I grew up with fricken CHEECH & CHONG and BILL COSBY and GEORGE CARLIN. Are there people who remember Adam Sandler as their first Comedian? What about Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams, Sam? Andrew Dice Clay even. Yeesh. Anyway - this movie, while making me acutely aware that I'm getting old, THANK YOU APATOW YOU CUNT! (and I mean that fondly) Well... I really can't wait for it. But I must!

Jurassic Park
-
Kinda like you gave up on it. Waiting like the rest of these fucks for you insight, wisdom, and overall geek coronaries that accompany your DVD reviews.
-
The Empire Strikes Back is the best movie ever made. Fool.
-
that's BAD.
-
Then again so do giraffes. I'll probably end up seeing it. Hey, Seth Rogen is in this!
Shocker. -
A bit more serious maybe than Virgin and Knocked Up, but looks good. Which is something that only really applies to movies directed by PTA with Sandler in them so far.
-
Makes me feel like cooking up some scrapple. Relax there pigsire, everyone's entitled to an opinion. The fact that mine happens to be right shouldn't keep you from striving to reach for your dreams.
Pork is a nice, sweet meat indeed. -
Just to lighten the mood.
-
i think he went to hell.'
great line -
Sorry, I was in a bad place after watching that trailer. You're not a fool. My wife likes Jurassic Park too, so you can't be that foolish. Still, this looks like a better Sandler movie than Little Nicky. And anyone who thinks *that* is anything approaching a good movie, you *are* a fool. And a cunt.

There will soon be people who remember Dan Cook as their first c
by gavdiggity
Chilling, no?
-
I generally shrug off other peoples opinons.
And their dandruff. -
what else could you want from a movie?
-
seriously? This is his third film? It looks like some sappy comedy. 40 year old Virgin and Knocked Up were hilarious. I don't know about this one though. We'll see. Also Jonah Hill is so annoying, I pray he's barely in here
-
...but it sure smells good!
-
I can tell this movie will suck.
-
Why must Sandler insist on playing guitar and singing? I hope the person that taught him this shit has a miserable day.
-
goddamn character limit...
-
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
-
Not really, but there's a shot of Rogen wearing a shirt with the Superman logo in a Star of David. I made this shirt for Halloween this year and went as Clark Stein.
-
did judd owe stern a favor? nice to see sandler finally grow up
-
anyone else3 feel like that trailer was like 7 minutes long...looks funny though, more dramatic then apatow's previous films but looks good
-
I was hoping for a little more anger and desperation of trying to make it as a comic on the road, rather than cute and fuzzy, middle age crisis and redemption bullshit. But I'll give it a shot.
-
It will either be one of the genuinely best American comedies in a long time, or it will be a trainwreck. I can't tell from that trailer. I'd guess the box office will follow that pattern, too.
-
to not get the entire plot of a movie from the damn trailer.
-
Ummmm, Sandler is 42, Rogen is 26. Sixteen years IS practically a generation older. Harry, sometimes you write things that make you sound like a total idiot.
-
Hilarious. Maybe not the raunchiest Apatow film to date, but it certainly looks like it will provide the belly laughs and tug on the heart strings, which is what he does best.
Also, it's shot by Januz Kaminski! Can you believe that? -
Love the Ringo Starr song.
-
I don't care what movie it is I can NOT watch Adam Sandler. He's awful.
-
why else would they say he was getting better in the trailer?
-
I'm in... yeah that hell line was great haha

Appatow is starting to show a side of maturity...
by buckys_kick_ass_arm
and utter devotion to his wife, considering her career pretty much hinges on him directing or producing a film she's stars in.
-
But, yeah, the trailer sure did give a whole hell of a lot away.
-
this movie will be amazing. i know first hand how good it is....and Januz Kaminski was the DP!!! You Heard Me!!
-
Looks great
-
i think it looks pretty good.
-
To see Observe and Report.
-
Looks absolutely horrid. Cheesy, schmaltzy - I'm calling right now Seth Rogen dies in the end. But that lameass cover of "Photograph" by Sandler and his band is just cruel and unusual.
-
but it's ok, they get a replacement puppy.
-
He does die and she stays with the husband. Whatever.
-
But very predictable. Man thinks he's dying, learns what's important, learns he's not dying, savors life for the first time, dies anyway, "teaches" everyone around him. The End. (The 'Die Hard' joke was pretty funny.)
-
Cough bitch, or Holly dies!
-
I'm in. How bad can it be?
-
She's amazing.
-
Shouldn't you at least be funny? Adam Sandler is the anti-funny. He looked restrained and tolerable in this. But yes, the trailer pretty much tells us everything. Punch Line meets The Bucket List.
-
i know that he uses the same actors in everything, but aren't those paul rudd's kids from knocked up?
for fun, i'm gonna pretend this is a sequel-rogen has slimmed down after dumping that nagging bitch. -
Well after half a decade of dramatic roles Eric Bana is finally doing comedy AND using his real Australian accent. Took him long enough.
-
Judge Apatov is a genius for sure but I hate how he doesn't give Jewish dudes a chance to be in his movies. Need more characterizations of Jewish dudes being the protagonist and dating blonde chicks.
-
And I bet he'll at least get nominated with this.
-
Looks like a solid film though. Leslie Mann is totally lickable.
-
If it's anything by QT, Rodiqueiz, dude from lord of the rings, Apatow, Del Toro then it's a masterpiece! For everyone of their films! Funny how that works w/ Harry.
-
Everything else fell flat. God I fucking hate Adam Sandler, which is a shame because I like Apatow's regular troupe. If Sandler and Martin Lawrence ever make a buddy flick together I think the universe might implode from the utter absence of comedy therein.
-
at this thing. It will be pathetic and silly, but my silly man tears are gonna be all over my shirt.
-
and his racist jokes about people with "urine-colored skin" and such. May his career suck on shit balls in hell for eternity.

Stand Up Comedy is full of desperation, sadness, drugs and booze
by blackmantis
For once I'd like someone to show what it's really like.
-
...need to understand that FUNNY PEOPLE is a drama. Does that alleviate some fears?
-
Why would Marketing brand a movie...
'Third Film from' odd choice.
Plus side, nice trailer. -
listening with my brother to Bill Cosby albums with the chicken heart and Noah building the ark..
-
They do it because so many films after 40 Year Old and Knocked Up used the tag: From the guys who brought you 40 Year Old and Knocked Up. Sure Apatow produced them, but this is really his third to direct.
I think its a smart and obvious marketing move. -
Now I don't have to see it. Because they covered every single story beat. Thanks.
-
I would have NEVER seen any of it coming otherwise!
Please. -
the fucking plot points.
-
FUCK YOU ADAM.. GARBAGE.
-
figured, since he's married to leslie mann.
looks like bana is playing the pierce brosnan role from mrs. doubtfire -
Fucking love it. Met Sandler a couple of times last year, and I can honestly say he’s a genuinely funny and nice guy. He’s also one of the few guaranteed box office draws left. This looks fucking great; I thought Bana might be playing a comedian as well. That’s where he started in Oz. Also, for the Sandler haters: think of something fucking original. Same old fucking whines every time. The man gave us Jessica Biel in a catsuit – fucking thank him!
-
Were you breastfed as a child? I’m sensing some Mommy issues.
-
Cause I don't need to see the movie now that they've given away the whole thing in the trailer.
-
that movie is still hysterical. Just completely out of nowhere gags. Couldn't stop laughing. It's a shame sandler went main stream... not for him of course, he's filthy fucking rich and powerful and can get all of his friends flicks made too but man....
-
Apatow is starting to wear because of all the people that try to copy him now...getting old fast
-
How else would be able to buy himself onto the set?
-
and I can't understand his popularity to ths day. But Apatow and his crew are genuinely entertaining, so this looks like a winner. Good trailer, but yes, it revealed far too much of the story.
-
they left that for the movie.
-
....I won't have to watch the movie since I saw everything in the trailer. Thanks!
-
With Carla Gugino. Can't recall the film.
-
I just watched the whole movie right. This is a short film or something. I didn't laugh once. I thought about my grandfathers struggle and how much realer it was and how painful it was and how it make him into bitter athetic man, not some slow low voice speaking huggy bear please be my buddy tyoe. What it did to those of us around him well, first you feel bad abotu it but then you too are dying right along side the person dying and when they treat you like shit, cause they feel bad you feel worse, and thats what he'd do. yell at your a few times each day say sorry a even less and then the crying and reflection on life and the "I dont beleive in god" coversations. Yeah this short film sucks by the way, cause it's glossy and full of shit...
-
Mike Myers should make a movie about becoming a world famous internet critic. The plot revolves around him selling out, so he can make a movie of his own, and other shit like forgeting where he came from, what girl really loved him, now that he's all the shit and stuff and has 7G myspace freinds. Mike was born to make a film like that reality. Gene Shalit to play his ultra cooler father who use to be a gaffer for hustler magazine.
-
Gene Shalit was a cock makeup artist.
-
which isn't saying much.
-
Putting money into Rules of Engagement. Why is Puddy funnier then most comedies these days?
-
Because at least he would still be funny. OH well I guess I can't blame him for getting rich off of stupid college kids.
-
Apatow is officially one step from usurping James L Brooks' career. If Apatow's next film features 60% less pop culture references and an Albert Brooks supporting role by law James L will receive royalties. From the over-bright, gauzy style and workmanlike composition, to the syrupy story instincts and quirk of characters...they're already sharing half a brain. If Apatow's characters were fuller, smarter, and James L went scatological we'd all confuse who was who. I wish they'd learn a thing or two from each other -- we'd probably end up watching slightly better film from them. I'll be content in the meantime.
-
The Trailer just showed me the entire story. It had a beginning, a sad middle, uplifting moment and a funny ending. THE END.
-
This movie looks awful. Which means it will make millions and win several Oscars.
-
They are always bullshit with no laughs.
-
Famous comedian takes on young comedian as protege. Famous comedian dying of disease. Famous comedian no longer dying, appreciates life. Young comedian helps famous comedian win back old flame. Old flame fights with husband, gets together with famous comedian. Famous comedian and old flame live happily ever after.
-
spreads ink over eastern seaboard, air takes on a definite fishy aroma.
Tentacles!!! -
sure lost a lot of weight.
-
Everybody's favorite nihilist works again.
-
Because he's playing the Green Hornet.. but yeah it's good he lost weight. He was pretty plump in Zack and Miri.
-
I got the whole story and most likely all the funny jokes now. The movie will just be like filler to this detailed-enough trailer.
-
He's probably lost 100 pounds since "Accepted."
I think this looks great. And I still think of Sandler as Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore... so naturally I still like him. -
Love Apatow and Rogen, but seeing Sandler's simpering mug is enough to make me seriously not want to see this. Even the lure of P.T. Anderson couldn't erase my reticence to see Punch Drunk Love.
-
Horrible trailer. Now that fucking pisses me off. Seriously. No spoiler warning?
-
He's pretty much been on auto pilot since the Wedding Singer. Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore are fucking classics though.
-
Nice.
-
But I feel they showed one twist too many.
-
I hate when funny guys go from being raunchy and just having a good time, to trying and tell a sweet, serious , heart warming story that will pull at the heartstrings and be funny. You cant do both. Thats why Sandler lost it halfway through the Wedding Singer and he hasnt been funny since. Apatow started losing it halfway through Knocked Up. Very unfunny trailer.
-
Apatow has found his nitch and it works.great cast to.wtf was the rza?
-
Can I be part of the faggot-whiner-sand-in-the-vagina-club too?
-
I'm by no means an Apatow fan. I'm probably one of two people in existence who really, really, REALLY didn't like "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and the one or two of his other movies I've seen, I've felt kinda "ehh". But this looks like a genuinely interesting, intelligent movie. I'm impressed.
-
I remember reading a while back that this was Apatow delving into James L. Brooks territory. I can definitely see that, but it still holds on to the whole Apatow style of comedy. Seems like a nice even blend between the two. And I was getting really sick of Seth Rogen. I watched the Observe and Report red band and it just kinda of bored me. Loved Pineapple Express, but after that, I was getting there. But I like the like the look of this. He appears to be branching out a little bit acting wise here. I'll be seeing this in theaters.
-
I realized that yeah, I did kinda feel like I watched the entire movie. Maybe it's a joke trailer they put together to throw off the real plot of the film. That'd be pretty fucking funny.
-
Apatow is our Billy Wilder
-
But jeez, that kind of felt like the whole movie didn't it?
-
keep in your bale talkback cause this movie looks amazing
-
as his other movies?
-
told me too much.
-
...Pretty much just ruined the whole film. I thought it was about a dying dude taking Rogen under his wing. Thankfully the trailer explained that was only the set up, and that the conclusion was Sandler overcoming cancer and fighting to win the affections of a girl married to a jerk.
-
...but still good. I cracked up at the DIE HARD bit.
Also, is it just me, or is 'Look out. He wants to rear your child' one of the worst, most retarded lines of dialogue in the history of film? Much like how Sandler is keeping some of you away from this, that line kept me away from KNOCKED UP. -
I rolled my eyes when they got to the "gonna die" part. It's got to be a character you care about and unless Sandler is going to die in real life, I don't care. They should have gone with an unknown.
-
Why was that 3 minutes long and gave away most of the plot? Some good stuff in there though. I think the thing people forget about Apatow, when they criticize his work, is that he doesn't do 100% comedy. There's so much drama in that trailer.
-
who are you ... Snagglepuss?
-
That's a bold statement.
-
I've got to be honest, when I heard the early word for this film I thought we were going to get something like Punchline, except through the eyes of Judd. This whole dying and then beating cancer thing bothers me. It feels like a huge stinking plot contrivance. I would have rather seen a movie about Sandler, the big comic taking Rogen the young comic under his wing only having to deal with the fact that Rogen was funnier than him...and deal with the stories about Sandler attempting to hold him back...something like Color of Money. This feels a little too bad Robin Williams movie to me. Not to mention making fun of Australians doesn't really feel fresh anymore. Hopefully, the movie will kick ass and I'll get lost in it and forget this stuff. That trailer is pretty bad though and for Harry to call it outstanding...no comment.
-
but I got dibbs on his wife if it does. Always had a thing for her.
-
Who is the chubby dude co-starring with Sandler? He looks vaguely familiar, like I've seen him in something before...oh wait, is that the kid from Freaks and Geeks? Wow, this must be his first acting gig since that show.
-
Here is a good tip to any screenwriters out there- if you need a bit of drama and character motivation in your movie, just throw in some cancer. I call it the "Fan Boys" device.
-
If you want to liven up an otherwise bland and boring romantic comedy script...throw in some cancer.
-
And people who like PTA and don't wanna see "Punch-Drunk Love" because of Sandler are ignorant and only missing out.
BTW, this looks pretty good. It is a little long and gives us too much. (Hope I'm wrong.) The Bruce Willis line is classic.
P.S. I love Seth Rogen's ballz. Fuck Tha Haters!!!
-
I will see this, no question.
-
...and funny even though Adam Sandler stars innit. Glad to see Seth Rogen un-porked just a bit. Looks like I'll have to check this out.
-
I got excited when he took Rogen under his wing and then you hear Rogen saying, "I grew up on every one of his movies." I thought it was gonna be a movie about the industry, and Sandler would eventually fuck over Rogen's script, and Rogen would learn how to fuck back over Sandler. Like the Wall Street of comedy in Hollywood. That could have been a really smart, edgy comedy instead of the usual fuckin' schmaltz. Seriously, it's like every one of Apatow's movies is "What I learned about life that summer..." And the Bana plotline reminds me all-too-much of Step Brothers cause the asshole brother in that movie looks a lot like him. These awkward dinner table scenes are getting old... as are fights on the front lawn. I don't know, maybe I'm just getting old...
-
my kind of movie. Too boring a concept and feels too much like an exercise. Plus I sense no nudity or brief nudity in this picture so count me out.
-
Adam Sandler playing a real character and Eric Bana sporting a real Australian accent! Good job, Judd. I'm there.
-
The Back To The Future shit in Knocked Up, The Death Star Crap in Clerks, and those lame ass Beard jokes. You know it's cheap, it's easy to pull off, and it's boring as hell. Idiocracy called it, The White Harry Naked Ass movie is coming.. Thanks to bullshit like this.
-
just insufferable...I loved 40 y/o Virgin but this seems painfully unfunny...ouch.
-
...then I'll love it by default. Sweet lovin' bug-juice man, is there anything you like?
-
...it doesn't say it's cos i'm outside the US on this one though. any one else?
-
That was a *wink* *Wink* reference to Stern. Apatow is a big fan.
-
...looks awesome as per for judd. he has managed to shoehorn his kids in there again though which i find a little embarassing for some reason.
-
we'll see how this turns out...it looks kind of typical. I actually didnt laugh once during the trailer.
-
Now that's FUNNY!
-
because I just saw the whole movie.
-
Anyone else get that vibe? Not Apatow but Brooks.
-
sentence. Judd apatow. adam sandler. the word funny. cause they just arent.

why not cast your kids too. oops done!

by alice cooper stalker
Both are trimmed down.
-
..are you kidding? Apatow now thinks he's "serious". He'll make us laugh, and make us cry. Give me a fucking break. And of course...Harry eats it up. When oh when will people stop jumping on every fad fucking bandwagon that comes along. The movie will be way too long, poorly written and mawkish. Plus...Rogen and Sandler suck the comedy out of any premise. I like how the trailer mentions "the third film from Judd Apatow" ... like it's supposed to be an endorsement...like he's a serious artiste now... fuck it.
-
one, props for deer hinter remark. two, this looks AWSOME. but why does adam sandler always look for a chance to sing? possibly a chance to be funny again for adam sandler! although i feel like i could be dreaming.
-
fuck you budday! JUDD APATOW IS THE FUCKIN MAN! so you can suck it when youre home alone when others are out laughing. GATTICA GATTICA!
-
Adam Sandler is my first comedian experience, first with Happy Gilmore (brilliant!). been watching him through thick and thin. hopefully another funny movie with this one. Back in my younger days it seemed adam sandler and mike mayers were it.
-
is 2 for 2 pefect comedies he'll make it 3 soon
-
Sandler, Rogen, Hill. This could be good.
-
He was the DP...I say again!!!
-
I'm so much more excited about this than I thought I was going to be. Long Live Apatow's Directorial Films.

December 18 - Witness the greatest movie ever made!
by standundermyumbrella
Uou know its true
-
So the people who said "We saw all the funny bits" are quite wrong. A Red Band trailer would be awesome.
-
about Sandler and Rogan... ungrateful haters can't stand it when people just like them make it big. Can't be happy in their own shit. Apatow's movies have nothing but big laughs and, even more important, big heart. Everyone quit your bitchin' and pen something better... bunch of big babies. *whonkwhonkwhonk... you sound like Charlie Brown's freakin' teacher!* Get over it you do-nothing, basement-dwelling trogledites. Man up if you hate these guys so much... where's your effort other than wallpapering this talkback with your oh-so-signifigant opines?
-
the only real mistake in this movie is using the Postal Service for yet another puss-tastic song of theirs... jesus... now there's a band which needs to grow some huevos mos ricky tick. To quote Dave Attell, "I listened to their music and I got MY period!"
-
When Sandler isn't doing his fucking stupid shtick that he does in EVERY movie, he's quite a likeable guy.
-
But I get the sneaking suspicion they just showed us the whole movie.
-
We'll try to use smaller words for you. Sandler is a no-talent lame-ass, his shtick was old the first time we saw it...and he's one of those guys who want to "be taken seriously" although he has NO acting chops...so screw him too. Apatow? Well his scripts are cliched, overlong and overwritten...he doesn't know the meaning of EDIT or subtlety. This trailer looks like the WORST of James Brooks, and all of those "go for the Oscar" movies filled with fake sentiment. Total bullshit.
-
Little Spanglish, little Terms of Endearment, little I'll Do Anything, shake and stir. Could be good. It would have been really funny if Apatow embraced it and put that little dog from As Good As It Gets in the film.
-
And Eric Bana's in it. I didn't know that. That was a (pleasant) surprise. :)
-
Now that I know what you hate. Seriously, I'm curious.
-
That is a little weird and man it makes me feel old now. I never really looked at him in that way. But this actually doesn't look that bad.
-
apparently cannot grasp true deconstructionist comedy. If Their All Gonna Laugh at You does not make you laugh, you have an underdeveloped sense of humor.
-
I listened to Cheech and Chong, but I listened to those albums in the 80s. They were old then. I saw Carlin at Carnegie when I was twelve and became an instant fan. Carlin and Pryor were way old when we started listening to them. Kinison and Dice Clay arrived in our times but they are way old and Sandler was on SNL back in 1990 or so.
