Judd Apatow's FUNNY PEOPLE trailer looks outstanding!

Published at:  Feb 20, 2009 4:54:46 PM CST

Hey folks, Harry here... Devin over at CHUD's Facebook status mentioned he couldn't figure out how to embed the Trailer for FUNNY PEOPLE at MovieFone... SO I checked it out, it was easy enough. Devin, just SOURCE this page and rip the code buddy. Thanks for the heads up! Meanwhile, DAMN - since when could Adam Sandler play OLD? That's so fucked up. I mean. He kinda does look like a generation older than Seth Rogen. WHAT THE HELL? Really? How fucking old does that make me? I grew up with fricken CHEECH & CHONG and BILL COSBY and GEORGE CARLIN. Are there people who remember Adam Sandler as their first Comedian? What about Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams, Sam? Andrew Dice Clay even. Yeesh. Anyway - this movie, while making me acutely aware that I'm getting old, THANK YOU APATOW YOU CUNT! (and I mean that fondly) Well... I really can't wait for it. But I must!

What it did to those of us around him well, first you feel bad abotu it but then you too are dying right along side the person dying and when they treat you like shit, cause they feel bad you feel worse, and thats what he'd do. yell at your a few times each day say sorry a even less and then the crying and reflection on life and the "I dont beleive in god" coversations. Mike Myers should make a movie about becoming a world famous internet critic. The plot revolves around him selling out, so he can make a movie of his own, and other shit like forgeting where he came from, what girl really loved him, now that he's all the shit and stuff and has 7G myspace freinds. by smarkjobber

Apatow is officially one step from usurping James L Brooks' career. If Apatow's next film features 60% less pop culture references and an Albert Brooks supporting role by law James L will receive royalties. From the over-bright, gauzy style and workmanlike composition, to the syrupy story instincts and quirk of characters...they're already sharing half a brain. If Apatow's characters were fuller, smarter, and James L went scatological we'd all confuse who was who. I wish they'd learn a thing or two from each other -- we'd probably end up watching slightly better film from them. I'll be content in the meantime.

I hate when funny guys go from being raunchy and just having a good time, to trying and tell a sweet, serious , heart warming story that will pull at the heartstrings and be funny. You cant do both. Thats why Sandler lost it halfway through the Wedding Singer and he hasnt been funny since. Apatow started losing it halfway through Knocked Up. Very unfunny trailer.

I'm by no means an Apatow fan. I'm probably one of two people in existence who really, really, REALLY didn't like "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and the one or two of his other movies I've seen, I've felt kinda "ehh". But this looks like a genuinely interesting, intelligent movie. I'm impressed.

    This Looks Surprisingly Fantastic

    by tokyo_drifter

I remember reading a while back that this was Apatow delving into James L. Brooks territory. I can definitely see that, but it still holds on to the whole Apatow style of comedy. Seems like a nice even blend between the two. And I was getting really sick of Seth Rogen. I watched the Observe and Report red band and it just kinda of bored me. Loved Pineapple Express, but after that, I was getting there. But I like the like the look of this. He appears to be branching out a little bit acting wise here. I'll be seeing this in theaters.

    by whinynegativebitch

...Pretty much just ruined the whole film. I thought it was about a dying dude taking Rogen under his wing. Thankfully the trailer explained that was only the set up, and that the conclusion was Sandler overcoming cancer and fighting to win the affections of a girl married to a jerk.

...but still good. I cracked up at the DIE HARD bit.

Also, is it just me, or is 'Look out. He wants to rear your child' one of the worst, most retarded lines of dialogue in the history of film? Much like how Sandler is keeping some of you away from this, that line kept me away from KNOCKED UP.

    by troutmaskreplicant

Why was that 3 minutes long and gave away most of the plot? Some good stuff in there though. I think the thing people forget about Apatow, when they criticize his work, is that he doesn't do 100% comedy. There's so much drama in that trailer.

    by exie

I've got to be honest, when I heard the early word for this film I thought we were going to get something like Punchline, except through the eyes of Judd. This whole dying and then beating cancer thing bothers me. It feels like a huge stinking plot contrivance. I would have rather seen a movie about Sandler, the big comic taking Rogen the young comic under his wing only having to deal with the fact that Rogen was funnier than him...and deal with the stories about Sandler attempting to hold him back...something like Color of Money. This feels a little too bad Robin Williams movie to me. Not to mention making fun of Australians doesn't really feel fresh anymore. Hopefully, the movie will kick ass and I'll get lost in it and forget this stuff. That trailer is pretty bad though and for Harry to call it outstanding...no comment.

    by sk229

I got excited when he took Rogen under his wing and then you hear Rogen saying, "I grew up on every one of his movies." I thought it was gonna be a movie about the industry, and Sandler would eventually fuck over Rogen's script, and Rogen would learn how to fuck back over Sandler. Like the Wall Street of comedy in Hollywood. That could have been a really smart, edgy comedy instead of the usual fuckin' schmaltz. Seriously, it's like every one of Apatow's movies is "What I learned about life that summer..." And the Bana plotline reminds me all-too-much of Step Brothers cause the asshole brother in that movie looks a lot like him. These awkward dinner table scenes are getting old... as are fights on the front lawn. I don't know, maybe I'm just getting old...

I listened to Cheech and Chong, but I listened to those albums in the 80s. They were old then. I saw Carlin at Carnegie when I was twelve and became an instant fan. Carlin and Pryor were way old when we started listening to them. Kinison and Dice Clay arrived in our times but they are way old and Sandler was on SNL back in 1990 or so.
