Capone Has the One-Sheet for SXSW Premiere WOMEN IN TROUBLE!!!
Hey everyone. Capone in Chicago here. I'm leaving for the SXSW Film Festival three weeks from today, and unlike last year--when I could only stay for the first four days--this year, I'm in for the duration. The complete schedule has just been put online, and the copy that I've printed out is already a mess from me scribbling on it like a fiend that can't get enough of all of the great premieres, documentaries, midnight shows, panels, you name it.
I'll probably do a proper SXSW Film Festival preview just before I head down to Austin, but I just wanted to give you an example of why I love going to this thing. I received the poster art for a film called WOMEN IN TROUBLE, a movie having its World Premiere at SXSW on March 15. I know nothing about this movie aside from the brief synopsis on the SXSW site. What I do know is that the cast is made up of some seriously lovely ladies, including Carla Gugino, Adrianne Palicki, Connie Britton, Marley Shelton, and Emmanuelle Chriqui. And one of these women is playing a porn star and two others are playing hookers. Oh, and Josh Brolin and Simon Baker are also in it. And Robyn Hitchcock is credited with the film's music. So there!
I also know that writer/director Sebastian Gutierrez wrote GOTHIKA, THE BIG BOUNCE, SNAKES ON A PLANE, RISE: BLOOD HUNTER, and the U.S. remake of THE EYE. I don't know the guy; I'm not shilling for the movie; I have no idea if the movie is even any good. I just know that there's no way in hell I'm missing this screening with a cast like this. Film festivals aren't really supposed to be about films you've heard something about; they're about taking a chance on works you know nothing about and having faith that you're going to discover something great or see something that may never get picked up for distribution that deserves to be. But the real reason I'm talking about WOMEN IN TROUBLE at all is because I really dig the poster. Take a look (and click in embiggen)…
I'd love to have that on my wall at home. It's kind of messed up. Anyway, hope to see my fellow festival-goers in Austin in three weeks. It's going to be the most fun I have all year being this ridiculously busy.

Is married to Gutierrez. Either that or they've been living together for many years, I forget. So that's how he got her in the movie. Personally, I am not a fan of the guy's writing, but this does sound like an intriguing change of pace and that poster DOES look cool.

The t.v. series pilot script written by Earl Mac Rauch in the wake of not being able to make a BUCKAROO BANZAI sequel. I once saw a few pages of it...what a blast!

this is the sole film you want to mention from the festival?!?
Cast or not, there has to be better than that, on. No-one in their right mind would ever forgive that shoody excuse for a writer for what he did to Elmore Leonard. -
the festival is mainly about documentaries? Not remotely a criticism, it is just that, otherwise, I've never seen a line-up at a festival with so few foreign film entries.
