Published at:  Jul 22, 1999 2:51:26 AM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here. Here's an interesting image from the world of SLEEPY HOLLOW. Our friendly neighborhood Sleepy Hollow Fansite sent this in as a possible MPAA violating image. I am not too sure about that, but I know that by the end of the day today I'll know for sure. BUT, at least we know this is the first time we get a decent look at that cabeza-less dude. So... enjoy

Meanwhile... Check these COOL AS HELL toys we'll be hunting hi and lo for this holiday season. Maaaaan, nobody makes better action figures than Todd and his crew...

I can't believe this is what created all the fuss. It looks like a classic poster from the `40's. Oh, excuse me, I gotta run. Now that I've seen it, I must now commit some unspeakable acts!

If this is what got the MPAA's panties all in a bunch, then color me infuriated. What could possibly be wrong with this poster? I mean give me a fucking break...
But I must cut this talkback short, because now that I've seen the poster I'm going to go decapitate everyone in my neighborhood. late.

    Official poster?

    by teko

Either this is just a gawdawful scan/blowup of the official poster, or just a bit of fan art...man, it's fuzzy and blown-out looking. And frankly, not all that great a poster. Where's the Burton-esque creepiness? The gothic dark weirdness of the trailer, with Johnny Depp in clockworks spectacles and that Death Tree in the background? This just looks like it was cobbled in Photoshop to me.

    I've seen the Real Poster!

    by sister disco

Last Friday I saw the real Sleepy Hollow poster at a Loews theater in Jersey. It was very different, of a more professional quality. It said "Heads will Roll" and had pictures of the various characters, including Ricci and Depp and The Headless Dude. Then at the bottom it had "Coming Soon", or the release date (I can't remember which). Oh yeah, and I'm glad I finally have something to contribute to this awesome site!

    Action Figure from McFarlane

    by spanky

    Hey, Gang...

I was at the Chicago Comic Convention last weekend, where McFarlane Toys had a booth. This is a photo/promo shot for the action figure they've produced.

    Peace.

    by the bowler

That poster is so fake! Its blurry, ugly, has bad composition, and the headless horseman image was obviously taken from the picture of the toy. Its in the exact same position. There's no way this can be real unless the MPAA banned it because it was just plain ugly.

    capes

    by brahma

The cloak that Headless Guy is wearing in the poster is just thrown over his shoulders. That's not gonna stay on when he's riding a horse at speed, so he'll probably have to clasp it in the front but he doesn't have a neck. So what does he do, nail it to his shoulders? Ok, considering the fact that he can function without a brain I guess it doesn't matter much. Just a thought.

    by cinemapen

This IS NOT the MPAA violating image. No doubt about that, as I've seen the poster (or at least thought I saw it,) and it was much more artfully done with the headless horesman on horseback and no sign of Ricci what-so-ever. It was in Neutral colors, black and grey, and the heads were NOT as graphic. This is fan-art, and really awful fan art at that.

This image is a piece of promo art for Sleepy Hollow that was displayed last weekend at the Wizard World convention (at the McFarlane booth). This image was also distributed on promo pin at the show.

    Reply to Talkback

  • Yeah, Harry this is fake, right? This thing looks like crap! Okay, maybe, as others say, it's just a piss poor scan. But it looks like it should be in the crummy old horror section of Blockbuster. It's worse than the Event Horizon box. And what's that white circle on the left? And why does Christina Ricci have eye bigger than her head? And why is she on the cover and not Johnny Depp!!!???? And no poster of the Headless horseman should exist without the cape flapping out like out like wings of the angel of death! God, Quest for Camelot had a better poster than this!

I sent this into Harry. The copy e-mailed to me was a horrible, bulky bitmap, leading me to believe that the original was of better quality. I knew it came from MacFarlane Toys, but wasn't sure if it was Paramount-produced artwork or not. But TalkBack has now gotten it all cleared up, right?

Damn good looking action figures I might add too, you go Todd McFarlane! But I still insist that 1)the poster is fake, a hoax fan created art and 2)HORRIBLE! it still sucks!!! But we'll see in a few more months....... --McK

Harry should have made that clear in the article...now back to business, the first action figure, the one that is SUPPOST to be Jonny Depp, well call me an idiot and a moron but is it me or does that look like Keanu Reeves??? McFarlane toys need some joints!

    by darth siskel

Yeah, the McFarlane toys are absolutely stunning everytime. THe sculpting & painting on them is fantastic, but do kids play with them? I'm just happy getting a $8 statue that looks that good, but some articulation would be nice. They're really slacking on the joints lately. Looks like Depp can't move his legs at all, & his arms barely move.

This poster is lame...then again, the movie will be, too

    by kingkrypton

SIGH. Only Tim Burton, king of smarmy films that proudly flaunt their total lack of intelligence and coherent plotting, could come up with such a pitiful poster. I salute the MPAA for their good taste in veto-ing this poster. Not because of the content, mind you. Because the artwork is a snooze. It's BORING to look at. Anybody with a paintbrush and an easel could come up with something better than that. Which should tell us what the film will be like...

    The Real Poster ...

    by forlorn50

A few movie theaters near my home have the actual poster released for the movie. It has raised some arguments between me and various friends. My question is this: is the grunting face of a man on the poster Christopher Walken? It does *sort* of resemble him, but from my understanding he plays the Headless Horseman. I'm not sure if he does a disembodied voice or if there is some kind of "history/legend" scene that he is in. I know the guy in the suit is Ray Park, but does anyone know what exactly Christopher Walken will do?

Piss-Poor Movie Poster is probably fake (I hope)

    by gucci pig

    Hi,

I am very eager to see this movie so I have been going to a few of its movie sights, and let me tell you, I have seen each part of that poster before. First of all: At the official site (www.sleepyhollowmovie.com) they have a great picture at the front page. That picture is where the Christina Ricci Part of the Poster and where the Title came from. Also I went to a few fan sites and found that the part with the windmill on it is a early production sketch. I also think that the headless horsemen came from the action figure cause the design on the chest are similar. So in fact I dont think any of this poster was drawn, but a person took parts of others pictures and made a poster. Well thats my hypothesis.

    About the Horseman poster

    by kaliban

The poster does look pretty weak even if you take the scan quality into account. Of course could this be just a concept poster that was used to construct the real thing? Kinda like in The Hamster Factor when Gilliam is reviewing the campaign ideas for the 12 monkeys poster. As far as giving the horseman some kind of bat-motif I say can it. I love Burton's Batman but it doesn't have to be incorporated into every thing he's done. Besides, the new Vampire Hunter D movie being produced by Mad House Studio is already using a similar image in their trailer for the upcoming anime. Lastly, the figures look great. Mcfarlane toys may never work well out of the box but they always look good in one. I just hope more upcoming movies decide to go to him when they decide to do a toy line.

    Toys...

    by thismoviesucked

Ah, well, this is approximately 50% off-topic, but I think that the ultimate figure that McFarlane Toys could make (In the Movie Maniacs series I guess) would be Alex from A Clockwork Orange. You know, he could come with his cane, (with removable dagger-handle part) a glass of Milk Plus, and that happy-silly long-nosed mask.

Hey, I know that this particular figure would never actually be made, for an extra-large number of reasons, but I'm just saying it would be NEAT. And COOL.

First off, if you think that these action figures are hoaxes, you're probably bright enough to believe the poster is Paramount's actual art. The toys are REAL... the poster is NOT. I'm sure it's just a McFarlane toys promo picture for the ACTION FIGURE. Very awesome action figures. More movies should start talking to McFarlane. His company has redefined the standard for cool must-have toys. Oh yeah, and KingKrypton is a retard. If you think everything involved with this project is lame, then (everyone who has a brain say it with me now) "GET THE HELL OUT OF THIS TALK BACK!" One day maybe these folks will evolve enough intelligence not to click on stories which OBVIOUSLY hold no interest for them...
