Robert Rodriguez set to make NERVERACKERS at long last!

Hey folks, Harry here... I know a lot of you have been screaming wanting another SIN CITY, but the news that finally hit today is frankly the best news you could hope for from Robert Rodriguez. Over 11 years ago, when Robert first swung by my house to pick me up to paint a model kit of KALI from GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD at his house - he put BLADE RUNNER on a screen and dialed all the color out and said, someday I want to make a badass science fiction film noir. He even had a name for the project, NERVERACKERS! That was all he had. But over time, the idea has continued to percolate, until just recently it finally started to turn into a full fledged movie. NERVERACKERS will be a hard core Science Fiction badass gritty flick. At least if it is anything like the tidbits here and there that Robert has been telling folks about over the past decade. Then, it looks like he'll make his JETSONS movie, which will most likely be the exact opposite of what he's doing with NERVERACKERS. Robert was shooting some tests for this film recently and was quite giddy about how it was coming together... last time we spoke. NERVERACKERS will be racking nerves April 16th, 2010!

Or some of it (I couldn't be bothered finishing it). Unsurprisingly, it was as formulaic as the Flinstones live action film. Quite unfunny too. Expect to see Steve Carell as George Jetson. Also, did someone say ethnic stereotype robots?

Your contradictory post ("I don't believe Harry knows Rodriguez personally!...I don't want to read about Harry's personal life!") just smacks of jealousy, man. As I recall, Rodriguez and Harry have been friends for years and live pretty close to each other.[p]Also, you *do* see Quint (he was just talking about his first girlfriend in an article I read today) and even sometimes Herc (witness him talking about his friendship with the writer Jane Espenson of Buffy and Battlestar Galactica, and his discussions with her during the WGA strike that he posted bits of) do this. Just as Moriarty always used to talk about his family and professional life. That's what this site is and always has been, so if you don't like it go elsewhere.

    I love Robert Rodriguez... but...

    by Frank Black

His movies start to feel like a 12 year old boy given a Hollywood movie deal (gets to work with cool special effects, afraid of boobies, and can't make an adult story with real characters...) I feel like he should make a movie with no effects or green screen just to re-calibrate himself (remind me there is a guy with heart like the one that made El Mariachi...) Sure I enjoyed Sin City but agree with the people who say it feels flat on repeated viewings, and empty... I hope he is able to prove he is more than the guy who can do EVERYTHING on a movie set, but deliver an emotional film that will be remembered...

ROBERT GETS THE PUSSY AND MOVIE MADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    by Illuminate

Robert Rodriguez is the man!!!! He cast McGowan in Grind House and he got her to suck his dick and swallow his cum in between scenes. Hell, she probably sucked his dicked at the Audition. I heard she is nice actor and Robert is a great Director so that is how to make a movie. Bull horn in one hand and the other hand on top of the actresses head to help her out with the rhythm while she is slobbering and sucking your dick. It takes talent to multitask. : )

Johnyaztec: That Is The Greatest Critique That...

    by Media Messiah

    ...I have ever heard!!!

Robert Rodriguez is clearly a great technician--but a director and writer, no!!!! In the realm of the latter, he is an over hyped better than Uwe Boil...just with bigger budgets, and wider distribution. I marvel at Rodriguez's amazing technical abilities...and the production infrastructure of his film company..."What I could do with those toys???", but Rodriguez is a victim of his own self generated press. He doesn't see film as art, it is just an excuse for another big paycheck...and to buy women.

  • Feb. 19, 2009, 5:58 p.m. CST

    oh no! they smoke pot!

    by seniorspeilbergio

While i definately agree, Rodriguez is just another technically gifted hack, pot's not what caused that. You know who else burns? My american equivelant: Mr. Steven Speilberg. Also, Ron Howard, Harrison Ford, Brad Pitt... hell, almost everyone in this buissiness smokes weed. It's when you do the other drugs is when problems REALLY arrise, like Tarrantino; who I heard was coked up throughout the Grindhouse shoot. He was also his own DP on that one and I heard he didn't even know what the different lights are called so instead of asking for a 2K to light for fill he would ask for a "really big light right here". And the gaffer would look at this coked up guy and wonder "what the fuck are you talking about man?"

    Seniorspeilbergio: Spielberg Has Losts It!!!

    by Media Messiah

Spielberg has lost it, and Ron Howard never had it!!! As for Ford and Spielberg, along with cohort George Lucas, they came up with Indy 4 and "Nuked the Fridge." I Rest my case.

Now, although Spielberg is a fast director, and technically brilliant, he's run out of ideas. His last good film was Terminal, and before that, E.T.

Ron Howard is technically gifted too, and although he is not a hack, his movies always seem to be missing something???

And yes, I have heard about Tarantino doing a lot more than weed, and with him and Rodriguez being best friends, as they say, "Birds of a feather". You can bet they were both on the heavy stuff, and that is destroying them creatively. It is a shame, but no one is bothering to stand-up to them, including those who are backing their movies, to say...enough, is enough!!!

  • Feb. 19, 2009, 7:57 p.m. CST

    Media Messiah

    by seniorspeilbergio

I don't think you understand what I'm saying man. These guys have ALWAYS SMOKED WEED. Close Encounters, E.T. Think about it. On The Terminal, Speilberg had a PA that did nothing but hold Speilbergs weed for him until he asked for it. It was in a little metal lockbox with a keypad on it and only Speilberg and the PA knew the combonation and afterward, he'd lite up a cigar to mask the odor. And again, EVERYONE in this buissiness smokes weed. Lucas suppossedly quit though, sometime before the prequels. The OT Trilogy though? Yeah, he burned.

  • Feb. 19, 2009, 7:59 p.m. CST

    oh yeah...

    by seniorspeilbergio

and I don't think it would make a difference if anyone told them to stop doing these things. They don't listen to anyone but themselves which is always a good way to fuck up a career and trust me, you don't need drugs to do that.

  • Feb. 20, 2009, 12:42 a.m. CST

    Seniorspeilbergio: Spielberg and Lucas

    by Media Messiah

I knew about Spielberg doing weed pre-Close Encounters when he use to hang-out in Malibu with other directors and Margot Kidder and her roommate (an heiress), in what some would say was a drug/whore (beach) house, but I assumed he had stopped about the time he began having symptoms of serious heart problems...about the same time it happened to Lucas also, that was during the shooting of Jaws and Star Wars. Spielberg was freaked-out and thought about quiting directing, and Lucas refused to direct anymore, until the prequels. Who knows, maybe it was all drug related in the first place? The two of them however, always claimed it was from stress due to making their films.

I know 60s rock stars have always said that using LSD gave them a temporary boost of genius, from 1 to 5 years, after that, they burned-out, and were never quite as good, ever again, this would include the Beatles. Could this have happened to Spielberg and Lucas...doing something harder than weed(?), perhaps, LSD(?)--who knows, but it certainly sounds like it. The first 5 years of their careers were genius, and was all down hill from there, just like it is with those who are said to use LSD???
