Details Emerge On James L. Brooks’ Sixth Directorial Effort, Including Rudd & Wilson As Possible Male Leads!!
I am – Hercules!!
James L. Brooks’ sixth project as a writer-director, titled “How Do You Know?”, is about an executive and a baseball pro both chasing the same girl, according to Wednesday morning's Variety.
Paul Rudd (“Role Models”) is being sought for the exec, Owen Wilson (“Marley and Me”) for the ballplayer. Reese Witherspoon (“Four Christmases”) has long been attached as the girl.
Brooks’ five previous directorial efforts are “Terms of Endearment” (which won Brooks three Oscars -- for best director, best adapted screenplay and best picture), “Broadcast News” (Oscar-nominated for best picture), “I’ll Do Anything,” “As Good As It Gets” (Oscar-nominated for best picture) and “Spanglish.”
I love all the Oscar-nominated ones; hopefully "How" will be one of those.
Brooks also co-created "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and scripted the hilarious Burt Reynolds vehicle "Starting Over."
Shooting was set to start in March, but Sony is now looking for a summer start.

oh well, It would have been better.

until i actually see this movie. i love terms of endearment, broadcast news, and as good as it gets, but spanglish was just so incredibly bad and despicable that i have lost a lot of faith in his skills. sitting through spanglish, i was thinking how astonishingly awful it was and if brooks was ever going to recover.

Broadcast News had a lot of interesting content, but was emotionally flat and unfunny. The other three just fucking suck. This sounds completely uninteresting too, but Rudd and Wilson are both talented (even if in Wilsons case he seems almost supernaturally determined to make the worst career decisions possible).

James L. Brooks gets a lifetime pass for Broadcast News. Some of the best banter ever put to film. I don't know what someone who thinks it was emotionally flat and unfunny is doing in a Brooks talkback.
-
And this project will rule.
