This movie will suck -- Watchmen will rule!!
-
I think making Victor Logan's half-brother adds an interesting dynamic.
-
I bet they spoil the ending in tonight's installment. Wish I hadn't watched this. Too much information.
-
In Wolverine:Origins, along with the boon claws, it was established Logan's name is James Howlett. I can live with bone claws, but I can not live with Creed being Logan's half brother. And I fear that they will not be doing the entire Weapon X experiment justice in this film. I doubt we will see the mind wiping, the silver helmet and Weapon X being controlled like a puppet.
-
in Origin it is HEAVILY suggested that the character of Dog is Wolverine's half brother and that he eventually becomes Sabretooth. However in a later interview the writer, Paul Jenkins claimed he never intended for Dog to be Sabretooth but would be cool with other people deciding to run with that. Guess the filmmakers interpreted that story the same way just about everyone else on earth did...
-
I was planning on giving this a pass, but now that Wolverine fought in the Civil War, well me thoughts have changed.
So when Fox is done with these litte teaser trailers we'll have already seen the whole movie, right? -
It was practically on the nose the entire story. Why NOT make Dog Creed when he and the artist spent so much time making them look and act so similarly?
-
It might suck, but I'll be there
-
But come 1st of May it will be rated fucking awesome!
-
I saw it hiding behind Jimmy and Sabertooth
-
No. Ok
-
Seriously with that second trailer they've told us most of the plot already, so wolvie's gf is killed by creed when he runs away from weapon x. Not a massive spoiler or anything but what's the point in revealing that in the trailer?
Will teh third trailer show us what happens at the end as well then? -
That is one of the worst comic ideas ever!
Logan was way more interesting when his past was a mystery and we got glimpses every now and then of the things he'd seen. -
It looks like it's gonna be a damn fun movie. My only question is time, it seems just in these 2 teaser that alot of difrent eras. I just hope it's not rushed. Oh ya and hopefully soone we'll get some deadpool action, i hope they don't mess him up.
-
"i was...I was looking for attention."
"OooOOOH GOooOOoooD... for yooooo. And how WAS she? I hope she was good because she's f**king usless NAO, izunt she?" -
Seeing them both fight in conflicts throughout the years together was pretty damn cool.
-
Gettysburg, Saving Private Ryan, and Tropic Thunder, back to back.
-
...why this Sabretooth looks and acts nothing like the Sabretooth from the first X-Men movie?Of course not. Filmmakers don't give a shit about little things like continuity.
-
It tickled.
-
Its called memory-wiping.
-
i was kinda interested in this, but these two trailers aren't too great. the first one sucks balls and the second one is just ok.
-
I assume you're suggesting they're memory wiping the audience.
-
Touche. Heheh.

cause he had massive scars which should have already healed if he had Creed's mutations.

Or did they alter it for the movie? I always thought it'd be like cornelius or something more...royal...."Jimmy time to eat upon our piles of money dear!" just doesn't sound right

by dogsoup
YOU LIKED THAT?!?!?! YOU WANT THAT BACK??!?!?!? WELL THEN FUCKING DIE IN A FIRE! Hahaha I kid you're all right I don't want you to die....today.
-
Could be explained by secondary mutation or experimentation after Wolverine escapes and Sabretooth becomes a "company man." At least that's how I've started trying to conceptualize it. Unless they suggest something better.
-
is James "Jimmy" Howlette. In Wolverine:Origin(comic) he adopts the name Logan, which was Dog's family name, I think. While I think that Howlette is about the dumbest familiy name I've ever heard, I'm fine with it for the most part...kind of.

by davywankenobi
I think that fanboy's love the idea of Sabretooth being bigger and stronger than Wolverine. People love the under...wolf..erine.???
-
WOM will kill this movie, especially after the first week where x-men geeks have artificially bumped up box office receipts. I'm expecting this to be worse than Ratner's X-Crap 3 and that's saying something! I hoping Watchmen will show Marvel where they've gone wrong. Now that looks good.
-
Very feral. Very unlike the one they're presenting here.
-
Granted, I suppose it would have been better if we didn't know Wolverine's origins but I assume many people over time would have been clamouring for bit and pieces if Logan's history. I think "Origins" was the next logical progression. In regards to how different creed looks from the first X-Men to Wolverine. Well, I suppose the writers could say Creed mutated further. I remember reading somewhere that Sabertooth had undergone many augmentation surgeries to increase his strength.
-
Damn chubby fingers.
-
I have no problem with the appearance...but the characterization and the acting could have been better. As far as Liev Schreiber pulling off "feral" I don't see a problem, he's a good actor. I just wish he was a little more physically imposing than Jackman.
-
1. They have danced around Wolverine and Sabertooth being blood related in the comics for years and years either as brothers or father and so. Why are people crying about it being solidified in the movie.
2. Why the bitching about bone claws like they are new. He has had bone claws for like 17 years now, ever since the early 90s. That is a sizable chunk of the character's history and it's not going to change. -
That's the back story I was waiting for. And it's Fox. Oh well, maybe I'll just reread my comix. More fulfilling that way. Less reward to the enemy.
-
...wolf-shit. This one reeks. Get away, boys.

Did anyone see the X-Men Origins: Sandwhiches trailer?
by leafy mcplantsalot
i thought that was the best one. Where creed and logan eat sandwiches. anyone else see this?
-
A shitty shitty clone with no personality and down syndrome features.
Whatever, who cares, most people probably won't even remember he was in that movie. -
Wolverine and Sabertooth kicking ass through various wars. HELL YEAH.
-
I can't wait.
-
This looks awesome.
-
Thanks for the explanation, I'm definitely sold on this film if only because Gavin Hood is making this movie. Yeah i happened to like totsi and rendition, let the flame war begin!
-
Spoiler................................................................Logan pops his claws through Creed's head at the climax of the movie seemingly killing him. However, there is an epilogue style scene where Stryker recovers the body for "further experimentation". His healing factor will repairs the damage to his brain but it can't recover the memories. Creed is gone. Only Sabretooth remains. It's just like when Logan undergoes the Weapon X procedure and they drill into his brain. Stryker knows all along it will erase his memories as his brain will be temporarily destroyed making it easy for Team X to reprogram him as a killing machine. What Stryker doesn't bargain on is Logan's rage when he awakens and the good man he is deep down, memory or not...

I remember when the Tooth's costume was yellow and white with fur in weird places and Liefeld stupid hair that extended 5 feet into the air. He wasn't hulking huge then he was more lithe. Then the revamp of costumes (When Wolverine lost his brown and tan get up) Tooth got the muscles and the costume that he's known for now. Point: change is a fucking bitch who will rip out your heart, shit in it while you watch, then shove it back down your throat forcing you to chew it up. You guys haven't even said a damn word about "WHERE THE FUCK IS ROMULUS IN ALL THIS?!?!" Oh that's right, Romulus is a recent decision to try to make sense of all of this convoluted relationship crap between any mutant that is animalistic includidng and lynchpinned by Wolverine and the Tooth. Yellow hair Black Hair THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!!! Dammit I need to stop buying these fucking comics they make LESS sense to the more they explain. I should spend that money on something more productive like 100 shares in Circuit City. In conclusion, the very first ever Hollywood Video closed down for good last week. I watched em fill the dumpsters with debris.
-
Do any of you fucking crybabies even read the comics? It's been established that Wolverine has had bone claws for almost 20 years now. And Dog has NEVER EVER been implied to be Sabretooth, god you people are stupid.
-
The footage of the kid looking-up at the camera (his Captain Kirk yells the name of Khan...moment)...claws extended...and then attacking his father, is laughable, it looks like a bad comedy, like a parody movie...and much of the footage featuring Hugh Jackman and Liev Schreiber appears out of place, and uneven.
-
the less I want to watch this. Already was planning on skipping this in the theater, but this will probably linger on my 3rd Netflix queue for awhile.
-
No, call me Wolverine! Snickty snickty snarl!
-
Stands up really well, forgot how cool it is. Although Wolverine dosen't even know who Sabretooth is. Maybe he dosen't remember stuff from just after his op too. Or maybe he didn't recognise him because he's not Cotton Weary.
-
"Hi, I'm Candy."
"Of course you are." -
but i'm still going. just planning to take it lightly instead of x-pecting something amazing.
still giving jackman props for all his work as wolvie, which i've really enjoyed.
fear there will be no wolverine sequel though. -
it might pull and adamantium off Logan's Bones.
-
One of the best story twists in the Origin story was the fact that Wolverine is NOT dog. We are led to think that is who he is until James has his big claw poping moment. Then we know Wolverine is really the wimpy rich kid. I can't believe they would wreck that whole twist.

by cookylamoo
-
They really should've stuck more closely to the Wolverine: Origin comic. That was an incredible book. They could've done the entire first act as that book, just a little in fast motion with him ending up in Canada with, was her name Rose? Blah... it still looks alright... its just not looking to be what it could've been. And fuck Sabertooth, he's a lame ass character.
-
...an implanted memory.
I always thought that a Wolverine story should only show glimpses of distorted realities and implanted memories.
Basically a peek into the tortured mind of the character, and by the end... nothing is resolved for Logan or us. Just more questions. -
A movie that blows and still leaves your balls blue! The more I see of this, the more I'm convinced this will bomb at the BO. I'll reserve my full judgement till more reviews come out, but until then, my expectations have officially been demoted to "lowered."
-
grrrrr... i'm gonna tear you to pieces wif mah teeny tiny wolvy claws! ain't i adowable?
-
Wolverine's main hook was his tortured mind and implanted memories. he was all about mystery. then that shit Origin story took that away from him. looks like this movie is more of the same.
hopefully they will write something soon saying that story was mostly bullshit too. -
Screening tonight of OUTLANDER in Seattle with the director Howard McCain talking afterwards and answering questions. It's at 7 pm at the JBL Theater, 325 5th Avenue North - presented in partnership with The Science Fiction Museum and Hall Of Fame. It only costs $5 to get in. The movie is great fun, check it out.

Ok, this is just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt, but here is my problems with origins:
If you look at almost all super-heroes, they have an exciting incident that starts them on their path. It is not always the cause of their powers, but instead the moment that motivates them and shapes their personality into the hero they have become. For Spider-Man it was the death of Uncle Ben (“great power comes great responsibility”), for Batman it was the death of his parents, for Superman it was when the Kents found him in the rocket ship (teaching him about Truth, Justice and the American Way), for Bruce Banner it was getting hit by the Gamma Bomb and being turned into the Hulk, etc.
So what is the moment that made Wolverine into Wolverine? When Heather Hudson found him out in the Canadian wilderness as a wild, feral man. He is brought back to civilization and re-taught how to act like a civilized person, but he still has a wild, animal-like nature about him. What caused him to be out in the wild and behave like a savage animal? The same thing that gave him adamantium bones and claws and robbed him of his memory of being a man: Weapon X.
Weapon X is the exciting incident that propels Wolverine’s entire superhero career. It is his version of watching his family be killed (Punisher) or being led to a wizard who touched him a magic word that transforms him into a powerful being (Captain Marvel). Everything before that is prologue – it is interesting but it isn’t the most significant event in Wolverine’s life.
But now they have added this soap opera back-story that robs Wolverine of some of his majesty. Yes, you can say he had a tough childhood (so did Bruce Banner and Peter Parker) but don’t make it the most important aspect of his entire background. Wolverine became Wolverine when he was taken by Weapon X and experimented on – everything else is superfluous.
This is also the reason I am against the bone claws. Claws are what make Wolverine Wolverine. His mutant power is regeneration, but it is the adamantium claws that make him unique. And where did the adamantium come from? Weapon X. And when did Logan finally become Wolverine? Weapon X. I think if you say he has bone claws you are saying he was Wolverine before he ever got to Weapon X, and I think that is a mistake. It is Weapon X that made him Wolverine.
-
LOL it's a fucking soap opera!!! Berzeker rage over a woman!!!! Good job Rothman!!!!

Oh yeah this is a Fox/Rothman production. Nothing cool ever comes from that combo.

why are people still complaining about the bone claws?!
by harrywannabe
It's not so hard to believe... look at cats... oh my god, they have *gasp!* RETRACTABLE CLAWS!!! Holy moly, that must mean that all cats come from Weapon X! Seriously people... there are plenty of creatures in nature that have retractable claws, so how come you can't get over the fact that a character in a fictional story has them as well? I mean, this isn't like the mechanical-vs-organic web shooters for Spider-Man...(personally i can appreciate both in that case) in the case of Wolverine the "organic" claws actually makes TONS more sense then some mechanical versions that Weapon X put into his arms. If anything, the only thing that Weapon X did to the claws is re-shape the adamantium around the pre-existing bones in order to be sharper. that is all.
-
The Bone Claws showed in the early 90's after Magneto ripped off Woverines adamantium. Wolverine: Origin was about 10 years later. If you're bitching that this movie is runing Woverine because of Bone Claws then get the fuck out cause you have no business even talking about shit you don't know.
-
Cats claws don't retract all the way up into their forearms and I can't think of a creature on the planet that has anything like that. That said, it's a freaking comic book. I dig wolverine, I can live with the bone claws, and I think having them come from in between his knuckles is a vast improvement over the original back of the hand thing. Yeah, some of this stuff looks corny, but some of it looks great. I LOVED the airplane sequence in Superman Returns, I waited my whole life to see something like that on the big screen, but the movie was kind of disappointing. A few exceptions aside, these movies are never going to live up to your love of comics, folks. Just enjoy what you can. Even The Dark Knight wasn't perfect.
-
The studio should just stop with these teasers. Please. The more they show, the more terrible this movie looks. I don't think WOLVERINE will totally bomb as it'll sell well in the overseas markets, and do some good business here as well, but it looks like a movie that's going to be derided, a la THE WICKERMAN, for a long while. If it's as bad as it looks, Fox may as well just sell WOLVERINE as a camp-fest.
-
I don't think anything in these trailers contradicts that. They even show when Logan decides to take on the name Wolverine - in the Weapon X tank. Couldn't the childhood backstory be about explaining the past relationship with Creed? I think you're making a big assumption about the purpose of the childhood scenes. Why can't both aspects of his origins be used? They're certainly not going to introduce freakin' Alpha Flight. I think the way they've done it is the most interesting, most efficient way to tell the story in a film with its own continuity. Making Creed the Brother in Arms (literally) works. I do wonder how far they'll go with the false memory thing (possible SPOILERS): with whether Creed actually kills Silver Fox at the cabin or not. And yeah, BSB, read the damn comic or wiki it for chrissakes. Of course Logan goes on a rage because of a woman. Do you know anything about the character at all?
-
Yep, Magneto ripped the adamantium of his bones in one of the stupidest stories in comic history. If you are going to use a rational why Wolverine has bone claws, don't bring up a story that took place in the 90s during the nadir of comic books. It was a period of gimmicks and crap story telling, and what happened to Wolverine is a perfect example (and not just the bone claws - the 90s added some of the worst elements to Wolverine's mythos).
ANd as I have said before, just because something is canon doesn't make it good. Peter Parker's parents were spies; that is canon but I don't think anyone would tell you that was a good idea. Or the Joker was originally the Red Hood; that is canon but I think most people prefer Nolan and the original mysterious origin of the Joker over that any day.
Canon is the same as dogma - just something that people follow mindlessly because they believe they have to. Just look at Nolan's Batman series - he moves away from canon and goes instead to the comic book creators original intent. -
And she pwned Thanos. Has Wolverine ever pwned Thanos?
-
-I think I saw Cyclops in it...WEIRD! Not using him to full effect in the x-men movies was fucking ridiculous...pissed me off.
-
I think the 3rd TV spot nailed it for me. I'm not expecting greatness, but I'd be really surprised if this outright sucked.
but lmao at the guy who posted BONE CL4WZ in the other thread. -
I've planned on seeing this since it was announced. It looks better with each glimpse. Anyone know what rating the director has to deliver?
-
First off, cat’s claws do not retract from their wrist. No animal’s claws retract from their wrist. Secondly, Wolverine only has three claws, placed between his knuckles. I think almost all animals have claws based on the number of digits they have and they come out of the end of those digits. Third, Wolverine's claws are made of bone; animal claws are made of keratin.
And finally, I got into comics and Wolverine back in the late 70s, and there were was a lot of implications that Wolverine's claws were artificially made. Wolverine hints at himself being a "six-million dollar man" and was once almost made into a cyborg (X-Men #132); that both adamantium skeleton and claws were placed in him by someone else (X-Men #140 he says, "But these flamin' CLAWS -- this flamin' skeleton I've got -changes everything...I've been turned into a virtual killing machine"); that a obviously artificial mechanism for his claws was revealed to be a part of Wolverine's body (X-Men #142, "Days of Future Past", Wolverine flesh is blasted off revealing a sheath for his claws when they are not in use; that Wolverine first saw them when he unsheathed them against Heather Hudson (as revealed in Alpha Flight #13); and there is a scene were Wolverine regrets ever getting these “freaky claws of mine“ (can’t remember which issue but I will try to look it up). All of these strongly suggest that Wolverine’s claws are not natural and were artificially placed there by someone else.
Sure, maybe later writers changed that and it is now “canon”, but that also means that they strayed from the earlier interpretation of Wolverine. The same earlier interpretation, I might add, that made him a popular character to begin with. So for you people who rip into us non-bone claw guys as people who don’t know the character, maybe you should instead be looking into your lack of knowledge and history regarding the character.
-
Didn't Gambit have to actually THROW his cards? They appear to just fly out from the top of his palm. Maybe he's really a young Magneto and those cards are laced with metal of some sort. HA!
-
The original adamantium claws were better and make more sense--bone claws wouldn't hold up in any kind of fight and wouldn't cut anything of any sturdiness. They're not like, say, tiger claws, which are short and thick and curved--those long, straight things would be useless.Just as with the mechanical web shooters, the synthetic add-ons are better because they add depth. In Spidey's case, they reflect his personality and technical knowledge--he took his power and created his own personality around it. And with Wolverine, like his skeleton it's an emblem of how his identity was taken from him and turned into something else by the program.Bone claws are lame. Just because writers inferior to the earlier writers thought they were clever and changed things doesn't make it a good idea. Bone claws suck, Marvel Ultimates suck, and history will validate that.
-
Thanks kevred you reminded me to say that
-
Could have been great. Tyler Mane's a pretty good, funny actor when actually given a single fucking speaking line. Unfortunately, Liev Schreiber's the replacement. WTF?
-
Actually, it IS being totally fucked right now as it is now in the hands of Jeph Loeb...
-
who came up with bone claws. who was in charge of Marvel when they were fucking up the mythos of their best characters.Tyler Mane was a great sabretooth. much more convincing than this new clown. With some comic characters is not about good acting its about being a convincing bad ass. All the Shakespearean training in the world won't help if I look up at the screen and think you couldn't fight your way out of paper bag. A huge aspect of comic books is the look and actors that just don't have the look kill that whole willing suspension of disbelief thing. This movie is unprofessional.
-
the plot of Magneto removing the adamantium from Logan's bones, which people at Marvel took seriously. Now, the person who came up with the notion of there being organic claws underneath, retconning the character's history, I do not know.
-
Step One - Take all the really great things written about Logan and put them in a pile. The full-on beserker rage, Miller's Japan quartet, the fights with a huge, long-haired psychopath called 'Sabertooth', etc.Step Two - Now take all the really crap things the've done with the character over the years and put them in a second pile. The bone claws, the James fucking Howlett retconning, the watered-down beserker rage (ie, just being a bit shouty and growling), etc. Now, Hollywood - pick a pile and start mining! Oops, wrong one! Never mind, enough people will come and see it just to see Logan finally kicking off with a fully rounded, sick-as-fuck, long-haired Creed. Ah. Oh well.BTW - anyone else wondering how come Logan showed absolutely no signs of recognising Sabertooth in the first 'X-Men' movie seeing as they're now 'brothers'. Was it the hair? Cos, like, if your own brother grew his hair long, you'd never spot him in a million years, would you?
-
little storm does not tell wolverine to pick a side, logan. thats a must have staple for superb engaging character defining dialog in every x men flick. it would be even cooler if little storm says it while toasting toads by the lake with little lightning bolts.
-
http://www.dettv.com/Wolverine60-SecondTVSpot2.html
I was confused by the Cyclops appearance too. I hadn't heard he was in this. Anyone know details? -
He didn't recognise Sabretooth as his brother because he had no memory whatsoever of his past.
-
No details except that IMDb lists a Young Scott Summers. From the look of the preview he's in high school. Probably will be one of a handful of mutant cameos in the film.
-
I'll be there opening night.
-
I'm wondering, now that it's apparent that Stryker is sending Sabretooth after a young Cyclops, might Patrick Stewart make an uncredited cameo as Prof. X? That would...actually be pretty cool.
-
Wonder if there will be a small scene after the credits or slightly after they start.
-
just sayin
-
I've VERY rarely post on this site but let me clear this up for all of you, VICTOR CREED and SABRETOOTH are being treated at seperate characters in the movie continuity. VICTOR CREED is Logans half brother and SABRETOOTH was just some random thug! They have no connection whatsoever in the movie world, christ stop bitching and read some comments about the movie before you start whining about plot holes. AND even if they were the same person it's easily explained another (dumb) recent revelation about Wolvie in the comics is that his memory being wiped isn't the result of Weapon X, his brain periodically blocks and wipes his memory to keep him from going insane, kinda a mental healing factor. All we need do at the end of this flick is have him realise that he did some pretty nasty shit whilst working for Weapon X and boom, there goes his memory including all about his half-brother. But to repeat, CREED and SABRETOOTH are different people, hell they never even called Sabretooth by his human name in X1
-
Now I am back on board to at least watch it and judge for myself instead of listening to most of you moronic imbeciles.
-
Are you fucking kidding me? God, you people are idiots. Who's better casting? A trained Shakespearian actor with lots of experience on stage and in movies, someone who can hold his own in a scene with Hugh Jackman? Or a fucking wrestler?
-
Anybody who's ever read a single issue of a Wolverine comic knows that. To pretend that the filmmakers are that ignorant is just naive. Either they'll tie Creed into the X1 Sabretooth (like Mr. Writer's info) or they'll just ignore it. But no one has ever said they're two different people.
-

HungoverIrishguy! You're wrong, Victor Creed is Sabertooth.
by ganymede3010
Here's an exact quote from Liev Schreiber himself. "Liev Schreiber: It was insanely fun. I felt again, I felt very self conscious initially because I knew fans didn't like that idea of me playing Sabertooth. I think I am perceived as a kind of urbane New York … I don't know maybe I've done too many movies with Jewish characters [laughter] and they're like "It's like Woody Allen playing Sabertooth" and I'm like no actually it's not. I'm 6 foot 3 I'm bigger than Hugh Jackman [laughter] I can do this". Case closed.
http://www.collider.com/entertainment/interviews/article.asp/aid/10080/tcid/1 -
They ARE both the same character played by different actors. It was idiotic how Singer made Sabretooth into the Marvel movie equivalent of what they did to Bane in "Batman and Robin". The 1st X-Men movie is garbage so I don't care how they ret-con this so that Liev is Creed now. Hell I don't even have a problem with them retconning it so that they're two different characters with the lame X1 Sabretooth being a one off with the similar powers to logan and creed. Sure I wish we could see the real Sabretooth with the blond hair and the cowboy hat show up in some bar, slit Logan's throat and dump him in a river ala Bryne and Clairmont but I guess they figured Liev would look silly with Blond hair. Anyhow, it is what it is.
As far as the fanboy bitch choir going on about bone claws. Grow up. This isn't remotely the same thing as organic web shooters since this is something that's been in the comics for over 16 years. Yeah, bone claws would break, but they just regenerate because of his healing factor. Either way, as long as he had adamantium who gives a shit. -
Pro-bone claws or anti-bone claws it doesn't matter they're here deal with it. The removal of Wolverine's adamantium was an interesting idea, it knocked him down a notch and made for character growth and development. Unfortunately they had to keep the claws some how because without them Wolverine just becomes a guy who can take a lot of punishment so the only way they could do it was come up with bone claws. It might be lame but there is no use in crying about it now.
kevred - the comics covered how useless the bone claws were, the first time he used them they broke and ripped out of his arms.
Continentalop - why argue the difference between bone claws and cat claws? Wolverine is a mutant argument over. I get that you don't like them but why dive so deep into an argument like that?
Wolverine and Sabertooth being brothers, it's been hinted at over and oave and over that they are related. For a long time they were drawn to look a like, why does this bother people so much?
If you want to complain about things that bring down the character instead of this movie why not start with X-23 and Daken? -
I couldn't give a flying shit about them, but wait a second. Saying they wouldn't hold up in a fight... are you fucking stupid? Have you ever FOUGHT someone? How often do your bones shatter when you're simply fighting hand-to-hand? It happens, but not as often as you retards would make it seem. Are you ignoring the motherfucking animal kingdom? Most animal claws aren't adamantium... I'm failing to see the gripe here, other than fanboy pissing and moaning. Someone care to explain to this poor, ignorant, fairweather fan that just wants a good movie?
-
But really, that seems to be the least of this movie's problems. Wolverine looks like a shit sandwhich, question is, who's hungry enough to take a bite?
-
who's the dude with lazer eyes? also, bone claws are from the comics, what's the problem?
-
*sigh* I give up.
-
I don't mind a teenage pre-X-men Cyclops in this thing. What however is assinine unless they have an explanation for it is where the hell Scott Summers would find Ruby Quartz glasses to wear before ever having encounters professor X. I hope they aren't just lazy about it and pull some lazy Heroes bullshit.
-
despite the lame uses of X-23 now in X-Force, her initial 2 miniseries were pretty incredible, and her connection to Logan was incidental at best. Her own story is pretty chilling. Especially in the scene where she's posing as the crippled child and walks out of the room where she just massacred every man, woman and child. But Daken is just plain stupid and superfluous.
-
I can only think of one reason why Cyclops would be in this. I got the impression in the first X-Men movie that Prof. X knew way too much about Wolverine. He just so happened to have a file of Alkali Lake lying around the office? Then Stryker's son was at Xavier's Institute at one point? That's too many connections to Wolverine and his past. How much you want to bet that a young Scott is captured by Weapon X and somehow ends up in the care of Professor X. Also, remember that Cyclops had a little pissy attitude towards Logan in X1. It probably had little to do with him hitting on Jean, and a lot more to do with Logan chasing him down in the scenes we saw in the commercials.

My comparison between cat's claws and Wolverine's is in response to those that argue that retractable claws are part of nature. I wouldn't bring up the comparison if people didn't keep trying to insist that his bone claws seem "natural." You want to say it is a mutant thing, fine, just don't try to point to nature to support your argument.
And yes, I actually think there worse things than bone claws. I think pretty much 90% of Wolverine's backstory is now stupid and inane. And the reason I complain is because the filmmakers had a chance to do what Nolan did with Batman, wipe away all the superfluous and ridiculous stuff that has crept into Wolverine's origin and just go back to the essential elements that made him cool. And IMHO they have bungled that tremendously by deciding to the fanboys who insist on canon.
Like I mentioned earlier, if Nolan had listened to the diehard Batman fanatics, he would have had the Joker be the Red Hood, had him turn completely white and had him using a bunch of novelty gags. Instead he decided to base his Joker on how the Joker was when he first appeared and not on how he had become after 70 years of comic books. -
I haven't been keeping up with this flm. I didn't realize it was going to describe everything about Logan's past. One of Logan's best features was no one knew how old he was or who his family was. Why trash that? This movie looks great, but here's hoping Pam wakes up to Bobby walking out of the shower at the end.

I keep on reading bitch after bitch about 'Wolverine's supposed to be mysterious' blah blah blah, why do we need a backstory. Sure, if you just want Wolverine to be a feral killing machine or just some guy who grunts and chews a stogie. That might even work if he's part of an X-Men movie. But that's not very interesting, is it? The Joker comparison is a bad one, because as a villain, he will only ever be a foil. Keeping him a mystery in Dark Knight worked. But this is a film focused on Wolverine, a hero, a main character. He needs a little depth. And the Weapon X story (no matter how you slice it - bone or no) is a good story (especially the Sabretooth, Silver Fox, John Wraith stuff). As I said, they're probably using the childhood story (Origin - again, thankfully there's no trace of Origins with that Romulus crap or Daken) as a way to set up the relationship with Creed. But this film is primarily about Weapon X. So why the hell is everyone complaining? If this works and makes money, they'll do the Japan story for the sequel. Maybe a bit of Patch in Madripoor.
-
I have no problem with them focusing on Weapon X. I have a problem with them focusing on one of the weakest elements in the entire Wolverine mythos: James Howlett. That is just unneccessary and stupid and hell.
You want Wolverine and Sabretooth to be brothers, fine - just have a couple scenes together than show them being recruited into Weapon X. We don't need this bad soap opera background.
As for MY comparisons to the Joker, it was dealing with how people constantly say that Origins and bone claws are canon. So fucking what. The Red Hood and white skin are cannon on the Joker, but it doesn't mean that Nolan had to use them. He went back to the original interpretation of the character instead of sticking with the "canon" version.
That is my problem with Wolverine. Instead of getting to the essential, core important things in Wolverine's story, they are throwing a bone to diehard fanboys who look at the comic book as the being infallible. Fanboys view most comics like it was the bible and that everything must be depicted literally as it was in the comic. -
You're still making huge assumptions about the film before seeing it. What makes you think that the childhood material constitutes a 'soap opera'? And once again, it's not about canon. It's about what story element works the best. I'm sure there's plenty of canonical elements of Wolverine that don't make it in the movie (hello, Alpha Flight). So it's not like the films are a slave to canon. Nolan's choice to present Joker before the Killing Joke backstory (which, as far as I know, was never intended to be canon, but a 'possible' story that other writers picked up on and made canonical) is what immediately served his vision for the film. While the material from Origin (NOT Origins, damn it) obviously serves the story they want to tell about Wolverine. Again, we don't yet know the purpose of these early scenes, but we have every reason to believe that Weapon X is the focus. Everything after that is just nit-picky bitching or matters of taste. You don't like the James Howlett story? Too bad. Plenty of people do, including, apparently, Hugh Jackman.
-
he was a hulking mute. a prop not a character. having an actual actor in the role can only be an improvement. as far as physicality, well that's what stunt men and cgi are for.
for better or worse (i say better), the ground has shifted because of the success of the dark knight, and characterization is now at least as important as iconography. not to mention the fact that so many "serious" literate writers are now working in tv, movies, as well as comics.
as far as the bone claws go, who gives a flying fuck? if the story is good, the acting is good, and the set pieces kick ass, who cares? the movie may or may not suck, so just wait a week and if the consensus is good go see the dam thing. then we get more quality movies right? -
there are many things in the clips that are NOT canon. personally i dont know any fanboys (myself included) who gave a dam about the bone claws one way or the other. at least when it comes to future movies. they cherry picked what they , directors producers jackman, liked from the books, and changed what didn't. stop bitching and just wait til it comes out. jesus tapdancing crist...
-
seems that Singer might be desperate to come back in a few years, so lets wrap up the x-men saga properly b4 we do anymore origin films. not a huge fan of his, but x2 was dam good i though.
-
Sorry, but I did. As most of the other people I know who like comics are of a similar age (i.e started reading in the 80s) they all like the bone claw / weapon X thing too. People have different tastes and all that.
