With Silver Surfer instead of Thor. No news about the Thor movie and Favreau didnt seem to keen on adding him to his "realistic" Iron Man. Maybe we will see a SSurfer movie instead?

we got that news months ago. now's the time for under the radar pre-production development. I'd love a great Silver Surfer flick; the only problem is FF4:2. It will be hard to separate the two. (I never saw FF4:2 and will resist an foolish, completion-ist urge to do so)

    by oisin5199

The new X-Men cartoon is pretty decent, but why can't Marvel get it together with their cartoons? Why don't they just do a Justice League style ongoing series of the Avengers? You can introduce any side characters you want, make it an ongoing series with several episode story arcs, make it intelligent, and get interesting name actors to do voice talent. Justice League is the model for sophisticated superhero group cartoons. Why don't they follow it? Marvel Super Hero Squad sounds like a goofy 70s cartoon.

    by wowsah156

The problem that Marvel has always had is the lack of consistency in its storytellling and the messing up of its continuity. The big test is whether or not Marvel will allow multi part story arcs on this new cartoon. If nopt then no one will be interested.

Given the specs it sounds more like a Marvel Team-up which would be more akin to the Batman The Brave and the Bold. A couple different Marvel characters thrown together in a story with little continuity.

Wolverine and The X-Men is surprisingly good so far. Even them hinting at things like the fall of Genosha have me excited. Also, did I see Archangel in a preview? Having the Scarlet Witch in the series also opens up doors for House of M. A lot of good stories they can pull from! But I really don't see the point of this new show, besides profit that is. Give us a New Avengers series and be done with it.

    by maelstrom_zero

Correct me if I'm wrong (my comic knowledge is pretty spotty from the 90s), but isn't the aforementioned cast the Avengers--if you take out the Silver Surfer?

And having the Silver Surfer in the team is a bit of overkill, at least it is to me. I thought he was supposed to be an all-powerful cosmic being. Doesn't he even beat out Thor in terms of sheer brokenness?

    Super Hero Squad

    by grendel745

If it stays true to the comics, is a sometimes backup feature in Marvel Adventures and a toy line. Its overly stylized, humorous and aimed at kids. Still I do find it funny at times, in a very juvenille way (like buying a scratching post for Wolverine sort of humor). I'm assuming that's what they're going for, not the next JLU.

The new Iron Man with Tony as a teen was so bad I couldn't watch it when they showed the premiere here on Teletoon. Can't comment beyond that.

However, Spectacular Spider-Man is a solid. Not quite as dark as B:TAS but in the same ballpark as far as quality of storylines goes. Its well worth the time to check out.

Love the toys, hated the comic...

    by jonas grumpy

I've been getting the Super Hero Squad toys since they were first released, using my young sons as my excuse. They're actually pretty cool, and from the same company who first made the Star Wars Galactic Heroes line of toys. (They also make those G.I. Joe movie toys posted here recently.)

However, the animated series had better be more amusing than the insipid one-shot comic book Marvel released earlier this year. (It didn't even include SPIDER-MAN, for crying out Pete's sake!) I was hoping for something along the lines of Chris Giarrusso's "Mini Marvels" comics. Instead, we got crap.

I'm also hoping the theme song for this show is at least partially equal to the '67 "Spider-Man" theme song. 'Cuz you know that song rocks, unlike the opening tune to every other animated superhero adaptation since.

And that's a GOOD thing. Lord knows comic books aren't. When the current crop of 30-40 year old fanboys dies off, there won't be any comic readers left. It's a good thing that Marvel hasn't completely forgot about the kids.

    Comics for kids

    by grendel745

Toonol - There are a few from the big two. Marvel has the Marvel Adventures line and DC has its own imprint (the best of which IMO is Billy Batson and the Magic of Shazam). Both are specifically geard towards kids (not continuity heavy, not hinged on tie ins) but not painful for adults to read (I really enjoy Marvel Adventures - Avengers and the above mentioned Billy Batson).

Comics Aren't Just For Kids Anymore... At All!

    by laserpants

Kids today don't read. They're post-literate. Which mean, of course, that de-evolution is very real. Its not just that comic readers are dwindling; ALL readers are dwindling. People who read, who like to read lots of different kinds of books, also read comics; but they don't buy monthlies, they read trades and graphic novels.

Back in the 90's there was a surprisingly decent story where Logan, Mr Fixit(Hulk), Spider-Man, and Ghost Rider stepped in for the Fantastic Four when they went missing. The Punisher made a cameo in the last page of the final comic of the story arc. Yes, they used everybody who was popular at the time, but it was good.
