8-bit Minuteman Game made by Veidt? Want to plunk a quarter in?
Hey folks, Harry here... Ok... I admit it. I am so incredibly giddy in love with this movie and the marketing that even though at this point, just 13 days away from seeing it (Yes, I'm a lucky bastard) - I just can't stop getting hyped up for it. I have all the books. I watch every second of footage I can find online... and now... Michael Bay's employee over at Collider.com sends me over an email pointing me in the direction of an 8-Bit 80s style scrolling punch, kick and jump game where you can play as two characters... and HOLY FUCK COOL, I can't stop playing it. TOO COOL. Way too cool. Can you get the High Score?

Never heard of it.
-
You should be able to fuck cats up with a lead pipe or broken bottles or something.
-
I can't wait for this damn movie.
-
Reminded me of the old TMNT games. Good job.
-
Than the crappy prequel game they are coming out with...
-
fuck michael bay
-
yea that was Final Fight except shittier.
-
Fun for a second.
-
Oh, I'm sure.
-
I have never been so excited for a movie in my life.
-
comic takes place in 85...a world where electric cars, and i suppose advance pc's are available, thanks to the doc
-
get the fuck off the computer and give daddy geek some grandkids....you fucking slacker
-
This took me back to BAD DUDES and Double Dragon, and the later 16-bit FINAL FIGHT.
The shit! -
That's awesome :) Brought back all kinds of memories from a better age of video games ;)
-
Very cool marketing idea. It was missing a comic book stand and a kid reading though.
-
and i wanna be the squid
-
its at the upper left above the health bar. You can't see very well, which is why you died quickly and your score was 010 or something.
-
I would still play games if they were all 2D. There is a market for new 2D games. 2D a is not out dated it's its own genera.
-
Just like going back to 1985, or actually 1988 when the sideway scrolling beat em ups were at their peak. Although, technically, Kung Fu Master paved the way back in 1984 for games like Renegade (1986), Double Dragon (1987), Vigilante (1988), Bad Dudes (1988), Final Fight (1989) and finally Streets of Rage (which this it pretty much lifted from) in (1991). And by the way Streets of Rage was a 16-Bit game. So there. Oh shit I feel reeeeel olllld.
-
Although at first glance that does seem silly - we are in fact talking about an alternate universe were technology is way advanced than the real 1977 (or 85)then this makes sense, if you know the Watchmen universe that is. Either that or whoever put this together is just plain stupid - or fucking clever.
-
He probably developed electronics at a further stage than previously possible.
-
There goes any productivity for tonight. God damnit. I'm gonna be playing this shit till dawn trying to get a high score...
-
No matter how the movie turns out, the stuff around it is brilliant.
-
I am feeling old ...

I don't know if this has turned up online yet, but...
by righteousbrother
There's a movie tie-in book out called Watchmen Portraits or something like that. And it features loads of portraits of all the cast and extras and the like, and there's a full page picture of Rorschach aka Walter Kovacs without his mask on - I haven't seen the picture anywhere online yet. He looks good, very similar to the comic character.
-
I have them too. You do know that Watchmen was published as a twelve-issue series, right? The DC Heroes pencil-and-paper RPG had a released a couple of Watchmen-themed supplements back around that time too, and of course they contained material that wasn't in the original comics--and written by Alan Moore too, iirc. So yeah: books. Plural.
-
Although I'd say graphically and sonically it's 16-bit rather than 8-bit, in terms of gameplay it's clearly 8-bit (especially they way there's a jump button with no real use except to jump over Moloch's knives).
-
It's rather a 16 Bit Game. Yeah, I'm a nitpicking prick. Sue me.
-
so close....

Gotta find ways to get more points!!

The first BOOK OF BALE...
And lo on the 5000th post the Old Testament Of Bale did end.
Upon that cold February day the professional disciples of Bale did rip their calendars from the walls and did proceed to burn them in a great pyre.
For that time, that blessed time, would forever be known as BB (Before Bale) and that time which followed would thereafter be known as AB (After Bale).
When the professional disciples of Bale did inform the non-believers, communicating through the holy medium of talkback, there were some who would not listen. They would not post at 1000. They would not post at 2000, and still they would not post at 5000. They denied Bale thrice over. They were blind to Bale and worshipped the false idol of Yoko's Cool Cuts.
It was then that Bale sent his rage upon them so that all fuckin amateurs might see his power. He tore from the non-believers a new asshole so that all would be marked, and his professional brethren did delight in the shit storm that followed.
Here ends the first BOOK OF BALE. (get thee to the TERMINATOR talkback and post three times if ye would repent).

WHAT A FUCKLOAD OF SHIT! THIS GAME IS LIKE DRINKING PUKE FRESH OUTTA A SHITTY ASSHOLE! I'D RATHER HAVE A DOG STICK ITS BALLS IN MY MOUTH THEN PLAY THIS SHITTY GAME EVER AGAIN!

1. No Black Freighter, although we do catch glimpses of the newsstand and the kid who reads the comic, but only briefly.
2. The ending is different, no squid. I was one of the people who never really cared about squid/no squid, but I feel the ending will work better for mainstream audiences that have never read the book.
3. They do not imply a sequel anymore than the book does...
4. The montage covering the heroes of the past is done exceptionally well, and was longer than I expected. Allows the audience to understand that this is an alternate version of the past and everything they know should be thrown out the window.
5. It is dark, but not the stark realism that fills the Dark Knight. The Watchmen reality is a little more surreal in its feel, like a dream. It really has the feel of the comic in it.
6. Look for the cameo by Snyder's son. He also played young Leonidas in 300.
7. It was fantastically close to the book; even the framings of shots were lifted directly from the book.
8. Jackie Earl Halley is the shit in this. He IS Rorschach.
9. This movie is gory. I'm a gore hound and I was surprised at how graphic some scenes were. Really had people squirming.
10. NAKED Sally Jupiter. (CORRECTION NAKED Silk Spectre)
11. Only character I didn't like was Veidt/Ozymandias. I thought the actor was weak.
I have to say Snyder knocked this one out of the park. There is some gruesome, brutal stuff here that is hard to watch. The fight scenes are awesome, and, like in 300, Snyder continues the use of ramping the frame rate to accentuate the movements of the characters. I knew there was going to be some slo-mo, but I didn't think he overdid it. All in all, fans of the book are going to more than pleased with the film. For a book that was for years considered un-filmable, he certainly managed to hit almost every beat and did not compromise any of the material (except for the squid).
So there you have it folks, breaking news once again brought to you by yours truly. I cannot wait for the films release; it will definitely up the ante for comic book adaptations in the future.

Of the old Robocop game from the late '80's. This has to be the best marketing campaign ever devised. I only got 218th... I am now going to have small boys coming up to me in the street and calling me gay. Have to find a way to get more points.....
-
Anyway, I love how Sally's kicks are about crotch-high. Now I know where her daughter's fighting style came from.
-
Every fucking trashcan and mailbox is an obstacle you have to walk around, no running, and you can't move or kick while jumping. Boo.
-
You kinda missed the point there.Actually I assumed he was talking about the Art Of The Film books and so forth. The point is, of course he has all them. The studios know to send him all that stuff by now.
-
I mean its part of a viral marketing campaign, not an actual game your supposed to be judging people!and for one thing its a game thats supposed to have originated in 1977, so Im not surprised its not the "best game in the world"-its not supposed to be awe-inspiringly awesome, its just a cool fun idea for marketing...and its got me hyped. Nice job.
-
because it's not fun.
-
Mmm...
-
as eating glass.
totally ties in to the movie, but if this was supposed to be a 1985 video game, there was much better stuff in arcades than this. it played like a crappy port to a home console from arcade. -
Final Fight came out that year, which this game is paying tribute too.
-
Final Fight is from 89. Double Dragon, the video game was released in 1987. It is an alternate universe though, like some of you mentioned.
-
The graphics aren't quite detailed enough for me to tell for sure, but that looked like Adam West as Hollis Mason in the game. Glad they found a role for him somewhere.
-
...moving forward while you jump is ABSOLUTELY necessary for any fighting game. I won't play it.
-
How'd you get to see it so soon?
-
The arcade game is a fantastic idea to go along with the movie. The idea is cool as hell. However, it won’t be fucking our eyes in 2009 like the Fallen’s giant moosecock!!!
-
Click the link that bacci provided. It will explain everything.
-
Could be a plant though.
-
....
-
honestly
-
Loved the intentional misspelling of Moloch as Molloch. Nice nod to 80s videogame Engrish.
-
ner,ner,ner,nerrrrr..I liked the music on that game, very nice.Saying that when I died at the knife boss I continued and I couldn't move,Viedt owes me 10peeeeeee,ah a simple diversion, the only people who take this seriously are the ones who are self-conscious because they wern't there in the first place ;>......I was a bit thrown by the 1977 but I put it down to the advances that Viedt and Manhatten had made in their dimension,it's all true you know.alucardvsdracula = You know it,golden age for that kind of game,I like the fact that the youth are pillaging the Computer tunes of that era for their music now,We Were right lol...Power_Girl=Get A DS,2-D is represented there,I love some Castlevania to this day....
-
My Sega Megadrive (Genisis for you yanks) had better graphics....It fuckin did! I know it did! And I will have words with any nerd that thinks otherwise!..........God I really hope it did.
-
I just realized that the Megadrive/Genisis was a 16-bit machine, not 8-bit.....What a stupid twat I turned out to be!
-
SWEET!
-
There was an AICN article about those books and links to pictures of the pages themselves.
-
I envision lots of half painted lead soldiers and untrimmed pot in plastic bags.
-
i know a guy, who knows a guy, who knows another guy, who used to date malin not really...i didnt see it, this was posted on latino review, who apparently has more juice than aicn

by ninjas... Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president?
-
They are still saying this is the name of the superhero team...well I guess the stupid people need to have their hands held and everything overexplained to them (even wrong) to get their asses in the seats. Cool game though...brings back some good memories from years ago.
-
You are all welcome for this.
-
What a half-hearted piece of dung.
-
...and a giant squid.
I remember this game on the NES system that came out in 1976 here on good ol' Alternate Earth. BTW, we have time travel here now. What about you biyatches??
-
It's not working :{
-
...Silk Spectre says "Let's go!" and then they just stand there blinking at me. Nothing happens. I don't have speakers on this CPU...does it give some sort of instructions? It's not frozen up...I want to play, please advise!
-
...Click where it says "Play Game".
-
...that all of you are in on and I'm the only douche to fall for it and you're all sitting in the AICN office laughing at me. STOP LAUGHING AT ME!
-
Obviously it is just my peice of shit computer that is the problem.
-
...Try a good operating system, like Veidt-nix...
-
The smartest man in the world didn't just get the patent to the spark hydrants-- he knows what's going to happen in advance
-
on either of my machines. I'll assume it's just the load, and try later.
-
you break the obstacles and get health boosts. Yeah, I wish I could jump kick forward.
-
Street Fighter IV comes out next week. Though may look like 3D at first glance, it's still the same old 2D street fighter. The character models are no longer 2D sprites, but all the action is 2D. Check it out.
-
I don't remember being able to move up or down in most of the 8-bit sidescrollers. Am I missing something? any classic gamerfan care to refresh my memory cells?
-
"The Intellevision was 16-bits" - "But.. it was like an Atari! Those were, like, 4 bits or something." - And then I sigh deeply and go back to my lone tower of isolation, being part of the 0.0001% of the world that has a brain.
-
So, how are you getting 40,000+ points?! I am around 23,000ish and have kicked and punched everything. Secret areas or what?
-
just like the good ol' days.
-
video game game graphics weren't quite that advanced in 1985 (but of course this is supposed to be an ALTERNATE history)
-
Played through twice. Took down every enemy and smashed every obstacle without losing life. For some reason, I can't get anywhere as near a high score as others clearly did. There must be a multiplier somewhere that I keep missing. Anyone know what's up?
-
It was a sidescroller and you could "walk" upward and down on the streets as well as move left and right. What a great, great game that was. Really pushed the engine. The sprites blinked like a bitch, though.
-
Just played thru again. I think I may have figured it out. Man, I feel like a dunce. When you reach Moloch, stay as far "down" on the screen as you can (in the foreground). Moloch continues to throw knives, but he can't get to the same plane as your character. Then it's just a matter of defeating the enemies that spawn from left-of-screen.
