FRINGE Boy Mark Valley Is DC Comics’ HUMAN TARGET!!

Published at:  Feb 11, 2009 5:55:18 AM CST

I am – Hercules!!

Mark Valley, who plays FBI agent Olivia Dunham’s evil dead boyfriend on “Fringe,” will embody DC Comics icon Christopher Chance in the Fox pilot “Human Target.”

If the project goes to series, it will be the second TV series for Chance, who was played by Rick Springfield in seven episodes of an ABC “Human Target” in the summer of 1992.

Chance, introduced in a 1972 issue of Action Comics, makes his living impersonating those marked for murder. He’s appeared in a number of short-lived DC Vertigo titles since 1999.

(Note that current "Battlestar Galactica" writer-producer Mark Verheiden wrote that 1992 "Human Target" special pictured above.)

The Fox pilot was penned by somebody named Jon Steinberg.

That Vertigo cover is so 'Vertigo-y.' The pretentiousness is just dripping off of that art. "Look at me! I'm really not a comic book geek! I'm reading some really DEEP stories with great cover art and rather bland, if not shitty interior work."

One of the best comics from DC Vertigo..

    by ceejaynightwing

..by a long shot. The mini series by Peter Milligan and the late Edvin Biukovic was superb. If they can get a decent pilot on the screen then it would definitely amass a following and last a few seasons. What they shouldn't do is tone it down for the masses. This needs to be an HBO production!

    dead? yes. boyfriend? yes.

evil? i thought that was still up in the air - didn't he claim he was working deep cover for the NSA?

Hmmm, he's not being credited on the show any more as of last night. So maybe they're "freeing" him to move on. He was only in about half of the episodes anyway.

What is the deal with the last few weeks not getting the Lost TB until like 45 minutes before the episode starts? It usually is posted in the Co-Ax by the time I wake up, or least by 10 or 11 (east coast) Give us a place to talk about Lost or we're gonna hi-jack some TBs again, like last week.

Fuck Mark Valley! He can't even play a dead guy on a shitty FOX series. How the hell can he expect to play an actual, live person? He sucked at playing a lawyer on Boston Legal. He sucked at playing an FBI agent on Fringe. He will suck at playing the Human Target. His performance will make Rick Springfield look good. Fuck Mark Valley!

It's funny someone mentioned him here as a potential Captain America if he were ten years younger. I thought the exact same thing about him when I was watching this show. He's got that gung-ho quality you don't see much of anymore.

Like him as an actor (wish 'Keen Eddie' had

    by dogrobber

had a longer run) but he isn't what I think of when I picture a guy who puts on padding, lifts, etc. to double for a potential victim. He (body-wise) looks too big/muscular/thick/square (my Dad's tailor would call it an 'athletic build'). I wonder if it is going to be more like the back-up stories in 'Action' or the Vertigo title?

    1992 Human Target

    by tra1138

I saw all of these in their original run and still view them from time to time on a very worn VHS cassette. It was done by Pet Fly Productions (The Flash, Viper, The Sentinal among others)and had a great soundtrack. I hope that gets an eventual release on DVD. Will check it out on FOX but won't become too attached.

    by haggardatbest

He's been waiting for this Talkback for nearly 17 years. I imagined him as the uncle in 'One Crazy Summer' sitting by the radio, trying to win the contest. Or the Aaron Burr guy in the old milk commercial. It would have been poetically awesome if tra1128's internet connection went out just before he was able to post his comment. That guy sure does love The Human Target.

Re: Left-Wing Loons and the NSA

    by harmil

I guess, I'm left-wing politically speaking, but you get to decide if I'm a loon.

It's not clear what being an agent for the NSA really means in Fringe, since (their classified charter not withstanding) it's understood that they are charged with intelligence in the classic sense, rather than direct action (which the CIA is responsible for). The NSA isn't inherently evil, and I would not paint their agents with that brush. They're just gathering data. The problem is when they are used to a) spy on U.S. citizens in the U.S. b) spy on our allies in their own countries and then provide that data to those countries in order to allow them to spy on their citizens and yet deny doing so c) provide intel to U.S. interests (corporations) on their competition around the world (this has been repeatedly alleged by companies like AirBus, but there's no solid evidence to date).
