damn me for actually watching it first, i coulda been first

Trekkies must be shitting their pants. The "baditude"of Kirk in this trailer makes the movie seem targeted for a younger, broader audience than old Trekkies would be happy with. However, it does look awesome, but there is very little resemblance to Star Trek in this ad besides brief glimpses at the Enterprise. <p> It's almost as though they are hiding the Trek aspect of the movie and emphasizing on how bad ass Kirk is.
-
If he doesn't, then I lose interest.
-
Wiederholen indeed.
-
Wow. Take intelligent science fiction, come up with a b.s. time travel concept to glaze over all continuity errors, and have splice in some "Top Gun" baloney. Oh yeah, how can I judge from the trailer? I cannot. But I can say that the trailer looks like a pile of overdone crap. I can say that.
-
the ISP defines the language and the content that you get. Yahoo is always trying to ran its yahoo.de version on me, google.com comes in as google.de and even Valve/steam wants to flip the lanuages on my games to german from time to time. SERVUS!!
-
Forcing the accent a little (lot) there.
-
..but I have a sinking feeling it's gonna fail. Love the look, I think the story is gonna fall flat. May the Great Sponge of the Galaxy smile on this endeavor.

If.. he... talkslikeshatner... I'm walking out.

This movie will bomb big time. This is not Starship Troopers.

Stephenie Meyer version of Star Trek where the Vulcans don't have pointy ears and Klingons sparkle in the sun.
-
LAAAAME. Plus Kirk has GAYFACE. This movie looks so generic, cheap and uninspired. Way to blow it again!
-
...looks pretty interesting. will be there for sure.

The most boring city of Germany. But they have some cool bowling alleys. :)

I think it's the only one in this country, but I may be wrong.

What is with these loud, messy, and unappealing trailers???

They finally got to do that cut out scene from Star Trek 7.
by Orionsangels
Remember Star Trek 7 was supposed to start with Kirk Spacediving. He would start in outerspace and pass through the earth's atmosphere and parachute. The scene was too expensive and cut out of the movie. Now they type on keyboard, use a mouse and you get a spacediving scene in the new ST film.
-
I disagree.
-
why is it aside from the special version of the trailer that was made up for aintitcoolnews. none of these trailers are showing any of the Nimoy spock scenes
-
In this movie we blow things up real good.
-
Actually, they did show Nimoy in the last one.
-
...that would be special version, then.

waahh! Kirk said "woohoo", and " u talkin to me?" waahh!!
by Boomers_Lips
the "purists" sure compnain about everyhing. my god! mind you this kirk is a young dude.

Look, STAR TREK isn't a high-falutin' cultural masterpiece. It's popcorn fare- but what makes it unique is its dorkiness. JJ and Co. are trying SO hard to not.. make... it... DORKY that they've missed the point. We must outcool STAR WARS they're thinking. And look where the SW franchise ended up- with an empty set of stories that many find forgettable.
-
I agree. Trek at it's best is literate and intelligent. No sign of those two qualities in the footage we've seen so far.
-
..dancing Uhura? that scene gives me a boner..
-
..from "Undiscovered Country"? or the one after that?
-
The wonderfully awful FINAL FRONTIER.
-
...just an expanded, slightly overbudgeted TV episode. This thing has epic-ness all over it. Big big galaxy sized playground. Like it should have been for a long time now. Bring it on!
-
..got to look for my old VHS copy and whack off to Uhuras sexy ebony calves..
-
It looks really loud
-
I'll try to slow down on the popcorn...'cause my ass isn't movin' for a refill.
-
It depends on story and cast chemistry. The look is fine from what little I have seen. There was a moment in Costner's Robin Hood when Christian Slater's character yells "Fuck me!" in astonishment. It was wrong in every way. I hope the dialogue strives for more than trying to connect with today's language...
-
If you don't like don't fucking use it. It's free and works great, that's so many people use it, all this Microsoft sponsored FUD would make more sense if you had no choice or alternative, but you do.
-
" heh heh.. they sure did.. they blowed up REAL good"
-
the other preview. So far, the preview with half a second of Leonard Nemoy was the most exciting. I'm crossing my fingers that they can handle this, but at this point I have so little invested in Trek that it isn't going to kill me if they ruin a franchise that's already in the dumpster.
-
If Paramount gave me a hundred and fifty million dollars I would do something else. So J.J. is an idiot. Yeah, that's the fanboy chant on this one. Idiots.
-
Excellent point. Filmed Trek is DEAD. This movie is a fresh start. If it fails, NO MORE TREK EVER. How can that be a good thing?
-
Wow that just dampened the tiniest of enthusiasm I had for this. What total retardation Trek has become in JJ's hands...
-
Harry, you've been activated!!!! ZOMG
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO..lol....Star Trek 90210..I'll be expecting to hear about Mass Suicide on May 10th
-
1) win over new fans and 2) turn out a fun film. Without the first one then Trek is dead, and without the second one it might as well be dead. <p> It looks like they're trying to win over new fans. Without this there's no point in making another film. Trek just isn't viable. Because of this I think any new Trek should be given a little leeway to accomplish this goal. It would be nice if films could just cater to hardcore geeks, but unfortunately hardcore geeks alone do not push box office numbers. <p> As far as the second, I have my fingers crossed. It looks like there's some decent action and they're at least making gestures towards the personality of the characters. It might not be what I would have done, or even what Gene Roddenberry would have done, but it appears as if they are trying. At this point in the franchise that's about all I can ask for.
-
go suck a hairy flaccid you know what. jj abrams knows what puts asses in seats, and how to give an audience that satisfied-after-a-good-meal feeling with his creativity...what do you put out there in the universe? WAH! WAH! WAH! Too many 'splosions...not enough intellectualizin'...need more navel-gazin'...! Don't worry though, keep your money in your wallets, Uwe Boll has a full slate of movies coming out just for the likes of your ilk, bunch of shitwads.
-
After watching this one, the Gi joe spot and Transformers 2, it's all explosions, mindless action and "Whooooo!!" Of course I guess I should expect as much when trying to appeal to beer-addled nacho-horfing couch parasites.
-
that would be a cleansing purge, ensuring the genetic strength of the human race. "Sorry losers, you are the weakest links..Goodbye!"
-
Was NOT from "The Final Frontier", it was edited from the beginning of "Star Trek: Generations". Also, WHY did they pick an actor who looks and sounds NOTHING like Shatner to play Kirk? I still don't get this move...
-
It will just piss people off if I even start bitching about this movie, so I'll remain quiet. But I want to bitch about so badly.
-
What?
-
Swigging from flask while looking like a 12-yr-old trying to put on a bitch-tough face? Check. Almost banging Oh Whora chick? Check. Shiny? Check. 'splosions? Check. <P> We got ourselves a JJ.
-
I'd say we're not haters, more like doubters. What's with Kirk's "Wooo hoo hoo" and the bar fight and tweenie sex scenes? Also, Kirk comes across as a real wanker in the trailer and I doubt he'll fair better in the full film. Hate? More like doubts to me.
-
I hope to christ you incessant whiners go opening day and pay to see this, even if it's just so you can spend the next 6 months whining about how it raped your childhood. This has to have as much eyecandy as possible to bring in new viewers, and if it does well, then we can look forward to a new series of films where character takes over as the budget gets trimmed. Fanboys don't remember the SFX masturbation exercise that was ST:TMP. If no one had gone to see that, there would be no WOK. So shut up with the whining, and go see the goddamn film.
-
I can see why many Trek fans may not be ready to digest this particular story of younger versions of classic characters. Star Trek has typically shown us seasoned, older professionals we can gain immediate respect for while giving us the likes of Wesley to represent Star Fleet youth. When the whole story seems to revolve around the younger set, it's traditionally not a fan fave. Therefore, it's pretty clear they're deciding to call it good enough with the traditional fan base, and pick up new fans. I wonder if it'll pan out like the new BSG has, or be more divisional betwixt the old guard and the newbs....
-
Why am I watching this, man?
-
I am a trekkie. I know it's trekker but I don't give a fuck about that shit. I was thoroughly disappointed about the cast when it first came out. The trailers though have me excited. It's a new look to trek and we have to give it a shot, cause let's face Star Trek is on it's last leg. I'm sorry but Voyager and Enterprise were not good shows. The producers of Trek ran that shit into the ground. This is what it needs. I'm just worried about JJ's third acts. His conclusions are horrible MI3's ending was absolute shit compared to the great first 2 acts.
-
arcturian schlong.
-
That Kirk fella is the prettiest man I ever did see.
-
not because of Mr. Abrams'
-
the special effects are better than their predecessors making it look like they are more advanced in their past than in their future. No continuity.
-
Dude, Man, ????? WTF?????
-
And that's because Nimoy is in this. The rest of the cast don't have to mimick or look like the originals. This is NEW Trek with certain ties to old Trek. It'll work, I'm pretty sure. The effects sequences will be amazing anyway, and the prequel comic book shows that Trek is being taken seriously.
-
Compared to the trailers for Transformers 2 and GI Joe this trailer looked pretty shit and boring. Its a shame since this will probably be the better movie.
-
"You have been and always will be my friend, man."
-
Kirk's death in Generations has to be the lamest death scene ever in a movie.
-
...beam me up, man.
-
we still bashing Lucas or something? and as I said earlier, I will keep my mouth shut on this piece of shit 'star trek' film. fuck jj abrams. shit, oops, I talked. oh well. Damn it, I'm not even a trekkie and this movies pisses me off.
-
I agree, Kirk's death was lame on a grand scale, and an insult to the character. It's bad enough that ST Generations was pretty lame as it was, but Kirk's lame death just added insult to injury.
-
Looks like the video was taken down from YouTube.
-
even if I didn't speak German, we all know that means it was pulled for copyright infringement...<p> oh well, I can wait an hour and a half for the real thing on my HUGE HD TV!!!
-
Batman jumping in TDK, Tony Jaa's flying kicks, Trinity (MATRIX) leaping, Selene (UNDERWORLD) jumping from a buildng or Sonja (UNDERWORLD:RISE OF LYCANS) backflip jumping are much better visuals.<p>TREK should've taken notes from them.
-
is the relationships and chemistry between the characters. Star Trek the original series definitely showed us that. There were some stinkers in terms of episodes. The saving grace was the chemistry between the characters and actors. That is the one important factor for me. You can give out a super storyline. You can dazzle me with special effects. Without the human element you just won't have a movie.<p>I will probably see this (unless the worst reviews possible appear). Hopefully, it can capture some of the magic that was seen before. It is a tough act to follow and I wish it the best.

Yet Another Bad Trailer Paramount Is Attempting To Hide
by Media Messiah
Too late, the damage is already done!!! You should have cast Matt Damon (Kirk), Giovanni Ribisi (Bones), and James McAvoy (Spock), when you had the chance...but no, you had to have it your way. Now you're so embarrassed that you're hiding the movie???!!!
-
. . . it'll be all over the internets in no time.
-
Kirk: "What bay doors? We're in a bathroom." <P> Sulu: "Full impulse power, Captain?" <P> *Unzips pants*
-
Kirk: "What en garde? We don't have swords!" <P> Sulu: "Yes we do." <P> *Unzips pants*
-
transformers, fast & furious, some others...
-
Oh and by the way, both Trek and Transformers look great!
-
The official movie site has the Super Bowl spot in the video section. Pretty cool stuff... especially Urban's one, simple line, "Leonard McCoy." He simply nails it.
-
there! I said it!
-
startrekmovie.com has it, though.

That was some game, eh?

DO it DO it!!! I liked Kirk's intensity on that scene at least.
by Dogmatic
-
Why aren't we supposed to follow the action on screen any more?
-
"He's like me, except in outer space!" I am looking forward to this flick, but I still say it's going to get creamed sandwhiched in between Wolverine - Angels n' Demons - Terminator Salvation all happening in May. I say Incredible Hulk style good-not-great numbers. Still, they dropped a shit-ton of cash on this and it's nice to see Star Trek take one more shot at the mainstream. And the mind-boggles that they're actually trying a comic-book style Sequel/Prequel/Reboot all in one movie... how will mainstream audiences wrap their heads around that one?
-
I've been a huge fan of Star Trek ever since I saw the first episode of TOS in the 70s. (Yes, I'm old!) Having the privilege of being able to see about 25 minutes of the new Star Trek two weeks ago,I can only say this: THIS MOVIE WILL FREAKING ROCK! The spacedive scene is unlike anything you ever saw in a Star Trek movie and the scene in which Leonard Nimoy introduces Kirk to (the new) Scotty is sheer magic. I think this reboot is exactly what the franchise needed. Can't wait to take my 11 year old son to this one!
-
JJ's Trek's salvation.
-
heck, in my entire universe, there is no place for a James T. Kirk who is treated like an unfocused 20-something kid who gets into barfights and beds coeds in tighty whities and otherwise acts like your typical football team captain
-
Can you imagine?
-
I know, it's a hard pill to swallow. Trek isn't going to be dorky anymore. JJ is making it cool, hip, sexy, and full of life. No more stale sets, or punching people in the back with interlocked fingers. HOW COULD THEY?
-
Can't wait.
-
I'm so seeing this!
-
I'm a doctor, not a remotely competent director.
-
...the more confidence I have in this film. This looks like THE movie of the summer...and that includes Watchmen. You nerds can stay home. I can't wait for this movie.
-
But the ending was fantastic. I was rooting for Arizona by the end of it, I didn't like the penalties, overall officiating. This STAR TREK movie looks kinda dumb at this point, but maybe I'm wrong (hopefully!). I hope you and the wifey are doing well.
-
Ha ha ha ha.
-
JarJar's version will be shiny. <P> It'll be bad too. But it will be shiny.
-
Me and the wifey doing well ... *Unzips pants*
-
very pleased with with the look of this so far.Never been to a convention and probably never will. Love Next generation and own the boxsets.Love DS9 and will own the box sets. Love a few Voyager episodes but especially hated the entire concept of Enterprise. There was no need to go back, shackling yourself creatively because you cant and shouldnt mess with what you know has to follow your story. They should have done a story set say 400 years after voyager. There would have been limitless ideas, technology and directions they could have focused on. Among other things they could have expanded the idea that Star Fleet has a few timeships that operate under a temporal prime directive as suggested in voyager. Any way as Star Trek Fans weve had pretty much a terrible time since DS9 finished. The last 2 films have been absolutely shit. Voyager was mostly awful and enterprise in my opinion at least was a bad mis step.much as i respect that William Shatner and the original crew are legends and the franchise owes them everything, they arent gonna be around much longer and the Star Trek Universe should not die with them. This actor playing Kirk knows hes never gonna be close to Shatner in the Hearts of fans. Give the guy a chance to be something different. Those criticizing him saying man, i dont understand,Kirk,Bones and Scotty used the word numerous times "Im a Doctor man" "God Dammit man" and so on. I thought the delivery was fine. Of course it could still be shit you can never tell from trailers these days but so far so good i say.
-
I thought Abrams was world famous for his precise dialogue.<p> "Why are you talkin ta me, maaaaan?"<p> Right - James T Kirk was a roughneck mall rat skateboarding suburbopimp before hooking up with John Wayne Jr in the role of "Mah. Name.is. Len.Herd.Mah.COY.Peeel.Gruuhm.
-
zip it up, playboy.
-
that those who saw the 20+ minute preview of scenes from the film give it an overall thumbs up, yet the detractors have seen little more than the trailers etc. the rest of the world has. There could be some wisdom in there ...
-
ArcadianDS, James T. Kirk as seen in this film is different due to events in the movie, also due to the fact that he has not been through training yet. The character does have to evolve you know.
-
his McCoy is fucking brilliant.
-
Make this movie cater to the masses, then, once this one is a big hit, the sequel can be more for us Trek fans...depending on if JJ wants to cater to us at all.
-
..is the whole scene establishing what a "bad boy" young Kirk is by driving a classic Corvette off a cliff for thrills. That is stOOpid with capital "o"'s. First of all, why is there a road leading to a blind cliff face with no warning signs of any kind, and second why a classic 20th century Corvette and third why is it just so damn cliche? They should show the Corvette hitting the canyon floor and exploding into flames on the rusted hulk of Thelma & Louise's converatble just to drive the point home. Oh, and don't get me started on the whole assembling the Enterprise in a ground-based shipyard when anyone fucking knows that the Enterprise superstructure is bolstered by tractor fields because without it the sheer weight of it in anything but zero gravity would cause it to collapse. Sorry to sound like such a Trek geek, and with all due respect to Abrams because I love LOST, but it seems as though he's willing to ignore key aspects of Trek if it doesn't fit into a particular shot or action sequence he wants to do. I think he has a core disrespect for the franchise, he's not a fan at all, it seems like just a prime gig for him and though there are things I like about what he's doing he should understand that only the die-hard Trek fans are going to matter, he's NOT going to convert anyone based on his take, people will avoid Trek like the plague simply because it IS Trek and they don't want the stink of it on their cool, so by shitting on canon he's only screwing his new moneymaker. The "gayface" bit I find hilarious, but actually the guy has throwback Jeffery Hunter good looks and I think the casting is great, IF the guy can act. Finally, I DON'T like having Nimoy in the film, though I love the guy, enough is enough and just thank GOD the Shat isn't appearing because he'd kill the fucking movie quicker than a summer release. Oh.....damn....
-
Although the rumors abound that it will be a time travel scnario, no matter what it may be, Leonard Nimoy's presence may lend some validity in spite of the fact that those of us who have been around since the beginning (ST-TOS and films with the original cast) may be skeptical to see all the flash and bang of the new film. We can only hope there will be more substance than spectacle.
