Me....not so much. Although I do dig FX work so that would be why. Sure as hell wouldn't be Will Ferrell. heh. j/k Ferrell is like Jack Black. Awesome in small doses but as the concentration rises you begin to behave erratically and go into overdose and have a seizure. Just. Old. Fast. Sorry Will. MT

Ok, I'll say it. Will Ferrell is going to rape my childhood. Lubeless.
Jan. 31, 2009, 7:29 p.m. CST
I'd wish a t-rex really did bite off Will Ferrell's head.
Jan. 31, 2009, 7:34 p.m. CST
I can't really say anything else about it sans that. Won't be clamoring to see it because they turned the kids into 20-something partners of Marshall, but may sneak into a matinee in summer.

I feel like Pee-Wee in the biker bar scene. Looks like a fun movie, alright? I said it...and I still say the new Chaka looks like Jamie Kennedy.

Jan. 31, 2009, 8:50 p.m. CST
...but sadly it was a really interesting premise to base a semi-serious SF adventure film on. I was hoping for something more along the line of Ghostbusters or Galaxy Quest, in which you could have humorous characters in odd and often dire circumstances, but still have an actual sense of threat. When a T-Rex is used for teh funny, I'm pretty sure they're not going in that direction.
Jan. 31, 2009, 9:06 p.m. CST
but yeah this looks like 09's journey to the center of the earth. just a little bit more appealing. no, i just said that.

Even though it was a saturday morning kid show some big name sci fi talents contributed some pretty heady stuff to that show.
Jan. 31, 2009, 10:22 p.m. CST
I mean, at the time, I didn't. But as I've gotten older, I guess I've gotten nostalgic and I remember it having a lot more charm than what this movie suggests. Ugh. It looks like they're going to make it one big joke, like that Brady Bunch movie from years ago. I don't like that approach and yeah, from upthread, I remember when Will Ferrell was funny too. For me, it was when he was on SNL doing cheer routines. ... And wait. What?! They spent money on a SUPER BOWL ad on THIS?!! ... OK, that's ridiculous and makes me dislike this even more.
Jan. 31, 2009, 10:37 p.m. CST

I just watched Anchorman and had forgotten how funny that movie is. This movie will be great. Seriously. Better than G.I.Joe.But only slightly better than Year One.

Feb. 1, 2009, 5:14 a.m. CST
right before "Matt Lauer can eat it!"?
should I care?
I watched the damn scene 10 times & I still haven't a clue. I brain is trying to make something funny out of whatever babble is there, but I can't.

The original "Land of the Lost" was Saturday morning fare for kids. And that's all this could possibly be, but a film version. You have kids 10 and under, take them - I'll take mine. My wife's nostalgic about it, because she grew up with show. I remember it, but was already older and though it was dumb. But I can't understand anyone getting overly worked up about this. Especially when the insufferable Farrell, who IS NOT FUNNY, is in this. And this should not be funny, but played kind of straight to be true to original show.
Feb. 1, 2009, 11:05 a.m. CST
....if the T. Rex variations ate Farrell's head, it might be the best film of the year, but only if I don't have to see his one-trick pony comedy junk being hyped all over ever again.
Feb. 1, 2009, 11:52 a.m. CST
The Sleestaks look better than ever but the CGI does not look convincing on the T-Rexes. Sure, the effects do look better than *A Sound of Thunder* but that film had a majorly doomed production coupled with an extremely low budget. To me, it looks a bit more like *Primeval* (the British show, not the also krappy SciFi Channel production) than the original *Land of the Lost* but with the obvious elements from *Land of the Lost* thrown in. It was odd to see the Golden Gate Bridge wrecked in it...perhaps time warps are moving objects from the past into a distant alternative future or something is my guess. Still, I'll keep my fingers crossed because the last time I heard, they were trying to make this a little more serious than the obvious family comedy they were originally aiming for.
Feb. 1, 2009, 12:37 p.m. CST
I like the guy. I think he's funny. The unrated version of Anchorman ,in my opinion,is comedy genius. I watched Semi Pro again last night and found it to be not nearly as funny, but it still had some really funny moments to it. I guess i'm easily amused by that song in Semi Pro saved the movie for me. I have no interest in seeing Land of the Lost.No more than I did Kicking and Screaming. I think his bread and butter is R rated stuff like Step Brothers and Old School.

For breezy summer fan, I think I'll actually pay to see THIS one. It really looks like a fun, and funny, movie. And sue me, but Will Ferrel in the right film vehicle can be great.
Feb. 1, 2009, 6:48 p.m. CST
I heard that next year Steven Spielberg is going to release a dinosaur movie called "Jurassic Park," and it's supposed to have unbelievable, realistic, jaw-dropping special effects. I can't wait to see where they take the state of the industry!

Oh.

That was sixteen years ago.

SIXTEEN FUCKING YEARS!

As for this film... looks fun. I would have taken it in a different direction, because the original show was damn creepy, but I'll lay my money down for this.
Feb. 1, 2009, 7:58 p.m. CST
Did you see either of those movies? This looks like it's *exactly* in that vein. Which of those did not use it's monsters to humorous effect? Do you really think that T-Rex scene was sillier than Sta-Puft?
Feb. 1, 2009, 8 p.m. CST
I dislike Ferrell and didn't give a flip about this before seeing this. Now, I'm half-interested.

Looks for good for kids 9+. I for one am tired of the lack of PG movies (I have an 8 year old). Pretty much all movies are PG-13 these days, a few R, some G, and hardly any PG ones. I'd like to see this on PG. Hard to find movies for kids 8-13. Mall Cop, finally, there was one, and it was ok - my son loved it.
Feb. 1, 2009, 10:23 p.m. CST
I swear if they made a Strawberry Shortcake movie, half the talkback would be filled with people crying that it rapes the source material, they got her outfit wrong, or it's not taking the premise seriously or it's too dark.
Feb. 1, 2009, 11:30 p.m. CST
But he seems to be taking a page out of Stiller's and Sandler's handbook. Big name comedic actor in a special effects heavy film(Night At the Museum/Bedtime Stories). But this one will be a rental, maybe maybe.

Surprisingly, Talkbackers are hard to please. Honestly I think this looks like it could be fun and I personally like Will Ferrell. Face facts people, the original was really cheesy uninspired show. Quit acting shocked that they actually tried to do decent effects in this film.
Feb. 2, 2009, 3 p.m. CST
Aint It Another Chance To Bitch
Seriously, kids - the original premise was stupid. A family whitewater rafting trip that includes a waterfall that makes Angel Falls look like a public drinking fountain that teleports you a billion years into the past to meet early man primates and lizard aliens is just so tight and well envisioned, amirite?
The story need a punch to make any kind of sense. Think about the title: Land of the Lost. So now we learn that it refers to all the objects and items we have lost over time. Like a galactic lost and found.
I think its a fun premise and a fresh take on a stale backstory. None of the gags in the preview felt over-the-top "Im kommeeng for joo Rickki Bubbie" campy.
But dont let me rob you of ACTB

Feb. 2, 2009, 4:38 p.m. CST
Remember Will's name was Marshall Will N.Holly --right?? I always laughed at that because it was a reference to Land of the Lost. Were they planning Will Ferrell to star in LOTL waaay back then or was it coincidence or "time warp"

looking forward to this movie. the matt lauer line is funny as hell.
Feb. 2, 2009, 6:01 p.m. CST
but I prefer slightly jerky stop-motion dinosaurs over cheap-looking cgi. Were the Chiodo Brothers busy? Also, I agree with the Talkbacker above, it should be a jungle setting. The desert looks boring.
The Sleestaks look great, though. I'll be seeing this one.

Yawn!! It amazes me that some people actually think that shit was funny!! I bet I only laugh once at this as virtually all Hollywood comedies are now puerile clones of each other. TV is now where America comedy rules, not the movies.
