FOX to eff up IRON MAN 2's Black Widow? Sadly, it looks like it! Or does it?
Hey folks, Harry here... I have nothing against this upcoming live-action GULLIVER'S TRAVELS - but it seems that FOX has some sort of contract agreement with Emily Blunt left over from her time on THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, which could be exercised by FOX (Fucking Over Xtraordinary) Films to keep her from being the astonishingly ravishing Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow in IRON MAN 2.
Variety has the story - and it seems there's a chance that it'll all work out, but there's also a chance that our lovely Natasha will be a Lilliputian princess that Black's Gulliver wants. Of course, how this would work, unless Black's Gulliver is a Giant with Lilliputian size equipment... I'll never know. They've also announced Jason Segel as Gulliver's Lilliputioan best friend, Horatio.
Of the subject entirely... I've been making my way through FREAKS & GEEKS for the first time and I just have to say... What the hell took me so long?!?!? GARAGE DOOR just killed me.

I bought the Yearbook edition of FREAKS last month. Great investment. I missed this show during its run. "Garage Door" is one of the best episodes in the set.

Yes this scheduling conflict is all a carefully orchestrated part of Tom Rothman's evil master plan. The halls of 20th Century Fox must be echoing with the malevolent cackles of Rothman and his henchmen as we speak.

I don't really care whether or not Emily Blunt is in the movie. IMO, any attractive actress with a dye job in leather can play Black Widow. Though I do feel a little sorry for Ms.Blunt. Anyone would rather be a principle character, and a recognizable property, with future potential for various other films than be a throwaway romantic interest in a reimagining of a classic tale starring Jack Black. (No offense to J.B. I love him, but GULLIVER'S TRAVELS? I'd rather it was Ted Danson.) As for Fox's involvement, who expected anything else? If there is something annoying Fox can do to hold up, botch, or even slightly pick at a successful studios plans they will. They've stopped being a movie studio anymore. They might as well be jerk-offs.

...but do they form some sort of cohesive thought? Am I jumping into the middle of a conversation where all colloquialisms are taken as shorthand and I'm just expected to understand? I'm in the business. I read the trades on a daily basis. Did Emily Blunt get the part? What does that have to with Gulliver's Travels? Is Black a reference to Black Cat or is jack Black in Gulliver's travels. If so, is he directing it? Why refer to it as Black's Gulliver's travels. And what the hell is Lilliputian size? Does this article make any sense?

Yeah... I was a bit confused too. Emily Blunt apparently got the part of the Black Widow. But Fox may be taking that out of the picture for her by invoking her contract from DEVIL WEARS PRADA to make her play the love interest for GULLIVER'S TRAVELS which starts shooting in the UK in March. This complicates things for her, because, IRON MAN 2, starts shooting in April. And, yes, Jack Black has the role of "Gulliver." Oh... and Lilliputian size means "small", referring the tiny, Lilliputians in the story.

That is the exact episode that is solidified in my memories of watching Freaks & Geeks - I defy anyone not to be moved by that episode! I'm glad you got to it, Harry - it's the one I was hoping you'd get to as soon as it came up in the DVD release post a few weeks back...

If Emily Blunt signed a contract with FOX, why shouldn't they expect her to honor it? This doesn't sound at all like any kind of ploy by FOX to "eff up" IRON MAN 2. The Variety article even states, "...by late Thursday, it looked like Fox and Blunt's reps were feeling more optimistic that she could do both projects."

I don't understand why it HAS to be Emily Blunt. It's not like she has some huge body of work that specifies she's the only possible choice in Hollywood.
