Looks like more of the same, which in this instance is a good thing. David Yates already made the best of the films from the worst of the books so here's hoping he can bring the series towards a great conclusion.

    by flickchick85

in fact, I think those were the only 2 that qualify as good movies at all. So I really can't wait for this one, b/c I think Yates is a great fit for this series. Plus there's Bruno Delbonnel's cinematography and the great Voldemort backstory sequences (some of my favorite bits from the entire series), so yeah, this should hopefully be great.

Yeah the Slughorn thing went nowhere

    by performingmonkey

In Half-Blood Prince JKR made it seem like Slughorn was going to be important for the overall plot but then he was on like 2 pages in Deathly Hallows. For this reason they should have all but cut him out of the movie and concentrated on the more important stuff. I didn't like David Yates's Order of the Phoenix that much (it's like, I know let's give this HUGE franchise movie to someone who's only directed TVMs, and it shows). Despite them supposedly making the cast 'act' more there was actually LESS emotional connection in Order than there was in the Goblet and Prisoner movies. Alfonso Cuaron's Prisoner of Azkaban REMAINS the best HP film.

    Snape's 'Shhhh' moment remains

    by darth_tarantino

in the trailer and is therefore likely to remain in the film. Hate to use the phrase, but 'epic fail' springs to mind. If the murder scene doesn't go down like it does in the book - probably one of the most pivotal moments in the series - then they've fucked it up yet again. Every time a new Potter movie comes out I give it a chance, hope and pray it will be as good as the books. And it never is.

The movies are never going to be as good as the books. They just can't create the world as fully or include all the details we want. It's a limitation of adapting from one medium to another.
That being said, I still enjoy the movies -- as movies. The books aren't going anywhere, so there's nothing to fear.

    by darth_tarantino

You're totally right about adaptation being limited mate. It's very difficult to capture things in such detail on screen as you can in a book. HOWEVER - changing the nature of a scene is something else entirely. And this is not the same as 'No Squid In Watchmen!! For Shame!!' The very nature of the scene is altered by having Harry not only somewhere else, away from Dumbledore, but also in a position to stop Snape. That isn't how it goes down in the book. Harry is helpless, paralysed and unable to protect his friend. And changing a detail like that seems utterly senseless to me.

The books run downstream although I have not yet to read them. Shock! This time the feeling is not less fun than the one before. However, one believes if he has seen them all then this one must be also viewed to be complete. If Harry Potter is victorious can Snape not kill the one who is Dumbledoor? Shock!

    Harry Potter & RIDLEY SCOTT

    by moviemo

I'm well aware of Yates being on board for the franchise's final round. I'm just idealizing a stroke of grandeur that hasn't really been captured in the Harry Potter movies. I think Scott could do it well, and I think he's familiar enough with even the most ambiguous high-fantasy (see: Legend) to helm something like Potter, which in the end has got some possibly profound reflections on humanity.

...and here I thought it was just because he taught kids black magic. Anyway, if the "epithet is invoked" somewhere during the series I don't remember it, but part of the point of the latter few books is that there's nothing inherently special about Harry -- in fact one of the subplots of Book 5 is that "the chosen one" could have just as easily been Neville depending on whose parents Voldemort decided to kill that night. Not that Rowling's novels are free from cliche, I just get annoyed by the people who trash the series even though they've never even read it, probably out of some misplaced sense of loyalty to Tolkien or something.

Was quoted as saying he feels "flattered" when gay guys have a crush on him. "For a lot of straight guys - and I know I’m guilty of it sometimes - when you know a gay guy has a crush on you, it is the most flattering thing."

Not that its a problem, but even in interviews in the past, I think it's plausible to suggest he might be gay. And if he is, rock on.
