Why does everything seem cooler when advertised in Japanese?

seriously.

Meow mix, meow mix, please deliver!

..made me spit out my cornflakes. I bet his mates will laugh at him over that one!
-
Yes it is.
-
do the Japanese always get way cooler stuff in their trailers?
-
Come on admit it, you were thinking it too...
-
for reals
-
それは真珠湾を補うIn my opinion anyway.
-
Looks like more of the same, which in this instance is a good thing. David Yates already made the best of the films from the worst of the books so here's hoping he can bring the series towards a great conclusion.
-
should I care. The movies since Prisoner have been a disappointment to those who've read the books.
-
Surprise Tentacle Sex!
-
Interesting. I haven't found the movies to be a disappointment at all.
-
Excited for new film but not overly impressed with Yates Phoenix.
-
...I'll go the long way around...
-
...it's true. Some of those images look cool for once...
-
Admit it, the idea of Harry Potter vs. Godzilla is pretty fucking sweet.
-
Dont kill me but my choice would be Tim Burton. Just ignore the couple minor bombs in his career, and think about his macabre film mind. He has a turkey or two but also quite a few classics. He and WB work well together.
-
Let's go shopping!!! :)
-
Where there any monsters or creatures in the books?
-
why do you keep posting 'insert word here does not exist in this dojo'? I get the Karate Kid reference but are you expecting this to turn into some kind of catch phrase?
-
...annoyingly talk over the movie previews just like they do here in the US.
That said, I've been on a little Harry Potter jag lately, catching up on the last two books while tending to a close family member recovering from serious medical problems, and I have to say, JK Rowlings has actually helped me through things. The books are like literary comfort food. -
Does it?
NO SENSEI!!!!
I'm giving that belated props from the first time I saw Cobra-Kai's effort. There will not be a second props. -

1) Yay for Quidditch!
2) Maybe its just the trailer's editing, but it looks like there's way too much focus on Slughorn -

This fan of the books thought PoA & OotP were the best...
by flickchick85
in fact, I think those were the only 2 that qualify as good movies at all. So I really can't wait for this one, b/c I think Yates is a great fit for this series. Plus there's Bruno Delbonnel's cinematography and the great Voldemort backstory sequences (some of my favorite bits from the entire series), so yeah, this should hopefully be great.

HP books are trash. Sorry.

Why are trailers like this, and more importantly that very cool trailer for Watchmen, coming out in Japan first instead of in the US?

Can you do any less?

Legend.
-
who knows what crevace it will go into next???
-
Imagine that. A properly done Potter flick, to end things off.
-
Sorry, but I think they've signed David Yates to direct the Potter flicks from now on. And Deathly Hallows will be (they say) two movies.
-
...is not Harry Potter, right, Merrick?
-
Let's turn it up a notch.
-
I see no Harry Potter in that embed... but the 500 Days of Summer trailer that IS there looks pretty cute. Not sure I like the 1970s-style repeating title shtick in the trailer itself, but I won't hold it against the movie. And because Zoe is in it, I'll be obliged to take the lady to it anyway.
-
That was an evil plot to make me watch a different shitty movie trailer other than a Harry Pooter crapper. I would rather teabag a scorching hotplate than see this milk/bile shake!
-
Or does this look gray and boring visually?
-
In Half-Blood Prince JKR made it seem like Slughorn was going to be important for the overall plot but then he was on like 2 pages in Deathly Hallows. For this reason they should have all but cut him out of the movie and concentrated on the more important stuff. I didn't like David Yates's Order of the Phoenix that much (it's like, I know let's give this HUGE franchise movie to someone who's only directed TVMs, and it shows). Despite them supposedly making the cast 'act' more there was actually LESS emotional connection in Order than there was in the Goblet and Prisoner movies. Alfonso Cuaron's Prisoner of Azkaban REMAINS the best HP film.
-
This looks boring. And wheres the lil red headed kid?
-
But TrailerAddict sucks. An earthquake in a photo gallery wouldn't drop as many frames as their video stream.
-
Someone changed the embed.
-
in the trailer and is therefore likely to remain in the film. Hate to use the phrase, but 'epic fail' springs to mind. If the murder scene doesn't go down like it does in the book - probably one of the most pivotal moments in the series - then they've fucked it up yet again. Every time a new Potter movie comes out I give it a chance, hope and pray it will be as good as the books. And it never is.
-
The movies are never going to be as good as the books. They just can't create the world as fully or include all the details we want. It's a limitation of adapting from one medium to another.
That being said, I still enjoy the movies -- as movies. The books aren't going anywhere, so there's nothing to fear. -
You're totally right about adaptation being limited mate. It's very difficult to capture things in such detail on screen as you can in a book. HOWEVER - changing the nature of a scene is something else entirely. And this is not the same as 'No Squid In Watchmen!! For Shame!!' The very nature of the scene is altered by having Harry not only somewhere else, away from Dumbledore, but also in a position to stop Snape. That isn't how it goes down in the book. Harry is helpless, paralysed and unable to protect his friend. And changing a detail like that seems utterly senseless to me.
-
harry pothead is beneath ridley scott, he wouldnt touch that shit with a 100 foot poll.
-
'Kingdom Of Heaven', on the other hand, seems to be low enough for Ridley to stoop ;)
-
The books run downstream although I have not yet to read them. Shock! This time the feeling is not less fun than the one before. However, one believes if he has seen them all then this one must be also viewed to be complete. If Harry Potter is victorious can Snape not kill the one who is Dumbledoor? Shock!
-
sounds just like "500 Days of Summer"
-
Um, that embed is showing (500) Days of Summer, no Harry Potter!!!
-
I'm well aware of Yates being on board for the franchise's final round. I'm just idealizing a stroke of grandeur that hasn't really been captured in the Harry Potter movies. I think Scott could do it well, and I think he's familiar enough with even the most ambiguous high-fantasy (see: Legend) to helm something like Potter, which in the end has got some possibly profound reflections on humanity.
-
I only see that 500 days of summer trailer
-
NOW.

Ooh, hey, thanks for the "(500) Days of Summer" trailer!
by flickchick85
Accidental as it may be, I hadn't seen that. And since that movie seems to have gotten the most love at Sundance this year, it's totally found a spot on my Most Anticipated of 2009.
-
...and my ears. that wasn't Harry Potter - unless something happened on my way to work and I traversed some interdemensional gateway D:
-
Bloody annoying... where's my Harry Potter?
-
That's the most ubiquitous cheesy fantasy cliche.

(500) Days of Summer
(500) Days of Summer
(500) Days of Summer
bla bla Love
(500) Days of Summer
(500) Days of Summer
How many times does he have to say that? -
lol i thought there was a change in the casting haha

I'm telling you.... Joseph Gordon Levitt as the Riddler in the next Batman movie... Make it happen.

Hmm, I'd hit it. But...

Not to get in the way of your righteous Harry Potter hate, but I'm pretty sure the phrase "the chosen one" doesn't actually appear in the books.
-
unfortunatly the phrase "the chosen one" does appear in the books.
one more reasons christians hate harry potter lol -
And so will Ginny's panties, if he's got game.
-
...and here I thought it was just because he taught kids black magic. Anyway, if the "epithet is invoked" somewhere during the series I don't remember it, but part of the point of the latter few books is that there's nothing inherently special about Harry -- in fact one of the subplots of Book 5 is that "the chosen one" could have just as easily been Neville depending on whose parents Voldemort decided to kill that night. Not that Rowling's novels are free from cliche, I just get annoyed by the people who trash the series even though they've never even read it, probably out of some misplaced sense of loyalty to Tolkien or something.
-
per my being a heterosexual male, but after careful consideration, I think I would very much like Hermione Grainger to sit on my face* (* provided, of course, that she is at least 18 years, 1 minute old)

age of consent in the UK is 16.

the British fake trailer...
But it made me laugh! Good shit! -
Doesn't her incredibly hairy upper lip put you off??? I know she likes to think she's a feminist but she looks like she's going for the full on Burt Reynolds special there.

What's so much cooler about "KADUNGA!!! HARRYA POTTRA!!!!"
by missing dink
-
the actor portraying slughorn is not fat enough!
-
But really, what the fuck where they saying? Shots actually looked pretty cool although.. Hmm might I not fall asleep with this one?
-
Was quoted as saying he feels "flattered" when gay guys have a crush on him. "For a lot of straight guys - and I know I’m guilty of it sometimes - when you know a gay guy has a crush on you, it is the most flattering thing."
Not that its a problem, but even in interviews in the past, I think it's plausible to suggest he might be gay. And if he is, rock on.
