I like the little bits of attention to detail. Well done.
-
I know you will.
-
Damn you non-nimble fingers!!
-
I'm pretty impressed that they had the look down. reminds me of Toronto's late night CP24 80's news repeats.
-
Wow that cheered me up! Looked very authentic.
-
was pretty damn cool.
-
Can. Not. Wait.
-
The picture, sound, newscasters. Very nice.
-
And I mean that as a big compliment.

Looks like this will be the one fucking our eyeballs in 2009
by pissed off and bitter
That shit was dope!!! Can't wait for this movie!
-
I want that shirt. NOW.
-
And no squi-...ahh...I didn't say it.
-
And I'll say it, Giant Squid! Ha! I'm a troll.
-
I love stuff like this.
-
This movie's gonna rock. Is it because they took liberties like the giant squid? Yeah that does suck but I think the good far outweighs the bad.... At least from what I've seen...
-
creating Lithium and all that. Can't freakin' wait!
-
Have you read the Obama Inauguration TB?!! Look at what you've done!! AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
-
It's amazing what fans can come up with when they try. They should buy that video and add it to the DVD release of Watchmen.
-
on Youtube with more things like these. Very cool indeed.
-
a documentary of an alternate 2009, 20 years after the end of Watchmen, when A GIANT SQUID LANDED ON NEW YAWK and mind fucked everyone to death.
-
awesome-ness.
-
Why bother to make this at all if Snyder wasn't trying his best to make Watchmen a truly encompassing experience? So, there's no squid. Fuck it. Stop makign excuses for your personal disappointment, or self-sabotaging your own expectations. The film's going to be fine. Better than fine, in fact. Damn good! Better Blue than red!
-
Fucking awesome!
-
oh wait, wrong movie.
-
Uh...I'm pretty sure this was made by the filmmakers, and not a fan.
-
I want more of this kind of stuff! Let's see Doc Manhatten interviewed by Dick Cavett or on 60 minutes. Better yet, let's see him do a guest appearance on the Love Boat or the Muppet Show. Or better yet, Hollywood Squares. I'm sure Paul Lynde would make some funny remarks about his skimpy costume.
-
Okay, if the Watchmen as a group existed with all the people in the photo, then wouldn't the Comedian have been working with his daughter for awhile? I'm just wondering if they'll have the scene from the comic with him talking to Laurie and her mother getting pissed, but it wouldn't have the same weight if they are (where) around each other alot.
-
Was this made by the filmmakers? Maybe I misunderstood. Does anyone know for sure?
-
Good to see they're getting a good advertising investment from WB. But then again, they know better than anyone that advertising set in the story's universe is way better than a few trailers here and there.
-
I'd say it's 100% a professional vid made by Snyder and co. It's on the New Frontiersman YouTube channel associated with the www.thenewfrontiersman.net, an official movie site, and it has a couple of new bits of footage that have been so far unseen (e.g. Doc Manhattan crushing the tank parts into a ball). definitely not a fan job, and probably a dvd bonus.
-
Yeah.. I want that shirt.
-
the reporter never says watchmen...its all in your head
well done -
I know I'm asking for it, but really I don't think the squid is the important thing. What's important was what the purpose the squid served in the story. The squid could have been a giant 8 legged golden retriever with laser stingers- it didn't matter for the plot. So I'm ok with no squid.
-
new youtube page with links to newfrontiersmen and watchmenthemovie...zach gets it
-
Will 3/6/09 stop taking it's sweet ass time and get here already?!?!
-
You said it perfectly! ^^
-
the squid is a symbol...if zach is indeed using the plot device of the doc getting used...it doesnt work...it doesnt work in a myriad of ways as previously discussed on numerous threads
-
Anybody who wants to be cynical can if they like. But I loved that. That was 70's beautiful... At least a damn sight better than the AMERICAN "Life on Mars." (Sorry. Glenister just rules, you Jessies!) Anywho, I'm sold. Better blue than red. That's me.
-
The actual movie seems almost like it's going to be a foot note to what's really interesting about this whole project: a blueprint on how to use all media as a way of heightening the entire experience of a film. Not just in a phony buzz 'Blair Witch' style. More about using other medium to flesh out the movie in the way that just can't be done by sitting in a theater for about two hours. Very cool.
-
Loved the old school animation, too. I did want to say something about the whole 'there was never a group called Watchmen' thing. After re-reading Watchmen (yet again!), I noticed one panel that seems to leave this open to interpretation. Rorschach makes a comment on the 'Who Watches The Watchmen?' graffiti that implies that Watchmen is indeed a direct reference to Rorschach and company.
It's only one line in one panel in the entire novel, but check it out. So, while never explicitly stated, there does seem to be a possibility that a certain group of costumed adventurers operated under the name Watchmen (or were perhaps dubbed Watchmen by the general public). If this isn't the case, then why would Rorschach believe that the graffiti refers to him and his colleagues directly? Snyder seems to have taken this interpretation. One could also argue that Watchmen is simply a natural name progression from Minutemen, and the reader can simply assume that Watchmen was the name of the group, without it having to be spelled out. Just my thoughts. That being said, flame away, know-it-all douchebag Watchmen fanboys. -
Damn TV sound quality sucked in those days.
-
Yeah, no shit. I'm glad they are releasing this in March like they did with 300 instead of almost the end of summer like they did with The Dark Knight.
-
Stay Classy Manhattan.....Doctor.
-
More, please....
-
I will boycott this movie!
-
Just rewatched it. No mention of the word "Watchmen" accompanying that picture.
-
I've only just read the graphic novel but it was completely awesome. And based on the trailer the film is going to be really faithful to the source material. Except for perhaps the ending, I've heard they're changing it, although I really liked the way the comic ended.
-
Was that Sam Rockwell in the vox pop "Better Blue than red!"??? Cool clip.
-
That clip was very authentic 1970s goodness. I want to have a cigarette and watch THE FRENCH CONNECTION now!
-
"Who watches the watchmen" is a translation of an old latin phrase, it's about who will look after the people who look after us, who will guard the guards, police the police etc., that was the whole point of the riots against the costumed heros in the Watchmen comic, and that's why somebody would spray that phrase on the wall. Who will police the heroes while the appoint themselves as police, that sort of thing. It doesn't mean there's an actual group called "the watchmen."
-
I've never made excuses for my disappointment, I'm not even sure exactly what you mean by that. However, in case you're confused, I am VERY FUCKING disappointed that there will be no Giant Squid. Plus what does "self-sabotaging your own expectations" mean anyway? You've shown clear expectations by stating how great the movie will be without any qualifiers, you really do sound like a plant. I, on the other hand, who has been labeled a troll for continually expressing my disappointment, think the movie looks pretty cool from what I've seen of it, though I still worry about the slow-mo and the, you know, acting. Plus I'll die before I stop bitching about the squid, it's just such a great injustice. ----self-sabotaging your own expectations? Yeesh.
-
... how AWESOME that video is!!! And hell yes this better be on the DVD!!!
-
Although my enthusiasm for this project has cooled, I have to hand it to 'em. This was fucking spot-on. If the film pays this much attention to tone and texture, I will be one pleasantly surprised Watchmen fanatic.
-
Oh, I know where the saying comes from...my point was just that it seems open to interpretation. Why not just write the actual Latin phrase instead? Also, why would Rorschach think that the graffiti was meant for his kind, as opposed to the government/police/etc?
Anyway, just my thoughts. The entire novel pretty ambiguous, to be honest with you. -
'nuff said.
-
I just love all this extra shit that is being thrown at us in anticipation of this movie! And this is cool beyond words. I want a full episode of the animated "Adventures of Dr. Manhattan." That would be too awesome.
-
I think this really sells the idea of people loving the Doc which will make their belief in his betrayal all the more shocking. I believe the rumored non-squid ending will work.
-
. . . Burn every copy of Alan Moore's Watchmen graphic novel, and erase it from all of your minds.Because that's the only explanation for the bitching.
-
and when you go to see the movie, make sure you takeyour copy of the graphic novel for the book burning pyre outside of every cinema screening it...haha....Guys! Theres the graphic novel and theres the movie - two completely different things, different artists, same source material...both can be equally awesome, they dont have to be mirror images of each other, that would be bloody boring!!
-
Only thing I've seen in a day. Dumb ass cable is messed up every channel some movie about apes taking over the white house.
-
The dialogue in the marketing isn't necessarily what's going to be in the movie. In the teaser, Rorschach says "the world will look up and shout save us", but on the new website the line is delivered verbatim from the comic "the whores and politicians will shout save us". So just because you keep hearing Dan say "Watchmen are over" right now, that doesn't mean we'll hear it in the finished film.
-
Admirable digging for a screen name there. Next to "Doug Yule's Squeeze" and "Leopold I of Anacreon". "Jack Gladney" was another mining expedition I've admired. I love it when I see a screen name like "Holly Hawkes' Baby". That's it. I'm changing my screen name to "Liber Juratus, Bathroom Reader".
-
Yeah, I was wondering about that as well...some creative audio editing going on, right? Personally, I don't really care if the team has a name or not...I just want to see the spirit of the novel captured faithfully. All the squiddies need to lay off the crack. On to other things. Now, who here thinks that The Walking Dead would make a great HBO series?

Not trying to change the subject just a curious question
by drbrianoblivion
...was just wondering why blair witch project is always getting shit on nowadays. I hadn't seen that movie since it came out and it was playing on show time or something a couple nights ago at like 1 am and it seriously scared the shit out of me just like the first time I saw it. There's just something psychologically damaging about being lost in the woods at night with an overactive imagination and this sense that you're being toyed with by "something", whether it be paranormal, or a much more frightening prospect, some crazy deliverance forest folk. And the marketing campaign was so out of left field that people to this day, granted stupid people, can't tell if that movie is real or not. I was just curious what people think about that movie 10 years later.
-
Wow this was awesome.
-
Just had to say it....
-
Really cool idea, and even cooler that they actually made it, but every single actor managed to sound like an actor.
-
Good Stuff. Where's Captain Metropolis?
-
I can't fuckin wait for this movie.
-
Uh, Rorshach would think it was refering to him because he is a costumed hero, you know, the guys that started taking over the role of the police and thereby caused all the regular citizens to start RIOTING. I don't think there's anything ambigious about it, if there are currently riots going on against heroes for taking the law into their own hands and you see grafitti on a wall referencing an old latin saying about "who will watch those who watch us" what the fuck else could it be refering too. And it's not in the original latin because people throw up grafiti to inspire and send a message to others, if the average dumbass can't read it what good is it. They didn't have wikipedia back then to just go look something up. Also the fact that Watchmen makes a better title than Policemen, Guardsmen, Custodians, etc.
-
It's not Laurie it's Sally. Take a closer look, the actress is clearly Carla Gugino and not Malin Akerman.
-
please don't post that kind of garbage. it's not funny. i come on to this site for movie news and entertainment. i don't need to be reminded that horrible, racist people like you exist.
-
I hear that Barack Obama is taking over for William Peterson in CSI:. Any thoughts?
-
Love this throwback stuff.
-
Just like Jesus.
-
Funny how hard it is for actors playing news anchors to sound like news anchors. ...The guy in the original Night of the Living Dead was pretty good...
-
Color me unimpressed. I guess either I am missing something, or just not a raving Watchmen fan like the rest of the people here. Everything I see from this movie makes me just shrug and go "what's the big deal?"
-
hippies are not monochromatic. they freely embrace all kinds of colors. everywhere.
-
... I didn't mention it in my previous post in case is spoiled anyone. I'm sure Snyder said they'd filmed two versions of the ending, one with the squid and one without? That way they were going to pick whichever ending tests better and put the other ending on the DVD as a branching version.
At least I hope that's what they're going to do! -
That was pretty cool, but after movies like Anchorman you can't help but feel that there's more parody than homage going on.
-
I for one, think it was time for an updated version, which is really what the film is. I'm just now reading the graphic novel for the first time and, while it may have been quite different than other comics of its day, today's comics surpass the grittiness and flawed characters in Watchmen. If the movie does what it should do, it will amp up the foundations that Watchmen was built upon to a level comparable to the despair and deceitfulness of today's world.
-
And cool as hell.
-
There's no youtube of it, but a Best of compilation included as an extra in their DVD compilation introduced sketches with what appeared to be overdubbed archival 70s news show footage [SPOILER ALERT however it was revealed at the end that Mr. Show actually shot the footage] http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405173/

Watchmen the movie is gonna be "Forest Gump with Superheroes"...
by thecomedian
Which is fine even though I always thought it was more about the characters than the backdrop. Still, Richard Nixon is making his cinematic comeback this year with Frost/Nixon, Watchmen and Black Dynamite so good for him.
-
I like stuff like that
-
my eyes have a headache.
-
that was truly cool and spot on.
-
Very well done! I seriously can't wait from March to roll around.
-
I wish they weren't making this movie, but it looks to me like they're doing the best possible job with it.
-
...using faux documentaries and news reports as the equivalent of the Under the Hood passages in the GN.
-
It sounded STEREOPHONIC HI FIDELITY to me!
-
when you get HEADSHOTTED, you're supposed to fall down, brah.
-
fuckers
-
The power of McWeeny compels you! The power of McWeeny compels you! The power of McWeeny compels you! The power of McWeeny compels you!
-
wouldn't it be great if they included a shortie version in the DVD? i am excited to see this movie.
-
Nevermind the fact that we know the ending has been totally botched....look at the shiny shiny visual effects...ahhhhhhhh.
-
your waiting in line for the Watchmen ride at Universal Studios?
-
I check it out, but posting comments there is a fucking bitch. Their word verification system doesn't activate regularly, and I'll write a post and it will never get accepted, no matter what I do.
-
What a way to overshadow the non-powered douchebags!
-
lets say for arguments sake that just a picture was taken...the team never really fought together...i havent seen the film, but this is just supposition...remember, they all did get together for metropolis' meeting...so lets say a pic was taken...then sent out for pr...then the whole idea fell apart everything you are saying is on the mark, btw
-
please point to one comic that is as multilayered as watchmen if you think its just about grit and flawed characters, i sugest you read it again
the comic works on many levels, the deepest is a history and commentary on the industry itself in fact, the only thing that seems to be updated is night owl's costume, and not even that is really true, if you watch the owl cave scene with the multiple costumes, which includes the one in the book> logic states that a middle aged, overweight and out of shape guy would wear the exoskeleton suit, which would make him feel more virile -
I hope they do a full on Space Ghost-style Dr. Manhattan cartoon.
-
Sorry I meant Michael Bay
-
Most of the bits I've seen work. But will the assemblage of bits work as well? Will the whole be as good or better than the sum of the parts? The previews and scenes shown of THE PHANTOM MENACE looked great, too, and we all remember what a let down it turned out to be. Midichlorians, anyone?
-
It definitely is Laurie - without a shadow of a doubt. The costume should give that away for starters. Plus her face being the face of Laurie and not Sally should help! It is an odd shot, but to be fair, incorporates the main players, and I'd presume it's the aborted Crimebusters meeting. Maybe started with a photo, before the meeting was abruptly finished by the Comedian. And Laurie hadn't found out about the Comedian yet had she? I'm assuming this is just before Sally breaks down and confesses to her.
Finally if you look at 1.41 before the shot pulls out, you can see Sally's photo in the background behind Laurie. -

If you think the altered ending is insulting...(Alternate Spoile
by agentarchangel
...then read the Sam Hamm draft from 1989. The ending was changed to Ozymandias opening a hole in time so he could try and take out Jon Ostermann before he was transformed. He's stopped, Dr. Manhattan prevents his own creation and lives happily ever after, and the script ends with the cliffhanger ending of Rorschach, Silk Spectre II, and Nite Owl II being stranded in "our" version of history, where they're only Comic Book characters.
-
That ending is atrocious.
-
this clip was a worthless piece of garbage. THERE'S NO SQUID AT THE END!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now i will let out a scream of fury. put earplugs in. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
