Exclusive! Edgar Wright Draws A Formidable Lucas Lee For SCOTT PILGRIM!

Published at:  Jan 16, 2009 8:51:04 PM CST

Beaks here...

I'm biased as hell, but I honestly think Edgar Wright has aced every casting decision on SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD. Just this week, we learned (via HitFix's Gregory Ellwood) that Kieran Culkin will be joining Michael Cera (Scott) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ramona) as the title character's gay roommate, Wallace. Now, we can confirm one of Ramona's Evil Exes.

How does Chris Evans as skateboarder/movie star Lucas Lee strike you?

For a younger Jason Lee type (which is what the character obviously needs to be), I really don't think Edgar could've done better than this. Evans was a perfect Johnny Storm in those unfortunate FANTASTIC FOUR movies, and took a huge step forward as an actor in Danny Boyle's SUNSHINE. Playing a parody of a pretty boy actor type? This is right square in his wheelhouse. He's going to kill this.

I spoke with Evans the other day (for the upcoming PUSH), and he was incredibly enthusiastic about joining Edgar and the gang up in Toronto. I've completely avoided the script for this, so I'm not entirely sure which boyfriends are left to cast. Here's hoping there's a part for Craig Wasson.

And if you're wondering who's playing Knives Chau, here's an incriminating photograph of Ms. Ellen Wong.

    Um.

    by whinynegativebitch

"Shit" choice, if you're going for a younger Jason Lee type. You couldn't possibly have made a more wrong choice. That said Evans is a good fucking actor, despite his rather crummy roles, and Wrights no retard, so I'm sure it will work well.

That's right. Portland, Oregon. KEEPING PORTLAND WEIRD, Oni Press does so without even trying.

I kind of dig chris evans for the character they are casting, a skateboarder/movie star called Lucas Lee. You need someone like him, besides he is kinda likeable, he was the only thing good in F4. We need the so full of himself ex, who better than johnny storm?

    by xandar1977

I can't tell you how much I love that movie. When I saw it, it immediately became my favorite movie of the year. One of the best sci-fi movies in a loooong time. Fuck all the haters. Name me a better sci-fi movie in the last few years.

    he was awesome in Sunshine!

    by bee152

I wasn't sure about him until i saw Sunshine. He was great but then again so was everyone else. I would also have to give credit to Danny Boyle for that. A good actor is a good actor but a great director makes them better.

Sunshine was beautifully filmed and acted,

    by dingbatty

** SPOILERS ** but plot points annoyed me -- particularly the part where they all go to bed while the guy turns the ship. Wouldn't they want to monitor an action that could potentially be so disastrous?

    by raw_bean

It was a great film. Although I have to say, of sci-fi films of the last five years, I'd put Serenity just a little higher. But anyway, Evans was the only good thing about the FF movies and I was really impressed with him in Sunshine, like the rest of you.

...I really do want to see another "Fantastic Four". That, and has anyone heard anything else about the POTP remake? I still think they should get Edgar to direct.

Only good thing of the FF films?

    by mr. zeddemore

Bullsheet. Chikilis nailed Grimm. And there's a moment in FF2 where Reed takes Johnny's ability and quickly uses it to stop a tourist attraction falling that was remarkably subtle and true to how intuitive Reed is. I know it's cool to hate on the FF flicks, but aside from the 'HOW DID THEY LAND THE SPACE SHIP IF THEY WERE UNCONSCIOUS?' plot-hole, they're perfectly reasonable entertainment.

Sunshine would have been a good

    by comedian_x

movie -- if the ending had been changed. Alex Garland ruins all his scripts with the same ending: great premise, great story, oh wait, hang on, let's ruin it by having a crazy guy run around killing everyone. That's how he ended The Beach, 28 Days, and Sunshine.

Isn't Scott Pilgrim kind of a cool kid?? even though he's poor and is kind of a scumbag, he's supposed to be a cool character who gets the girl... how the fuck is michel cera going to play him? He only has one bumbling way of acting!!!

is tiresome. He always plays the same charachter. He better save all of the money he's making because his career path as "direct to video" written all over it unless he's able to break out of the teen comedy roles.

    by sherman_lives

Of course, I say that's bollocks, as he's the same age as--if not younger than--Downey and Norton. Perhaps he's happy with one franchise (Trek) at a time. Dunno Wright's status.
