Should be a good episode
-
the only holdout was Tom Welling but apparently he has agreed to return!
Season 8 has been the highest rated season for the show thanks to the Doomsday character and all the other DC characters. -
is a HUGE improvement over last years shit fest, I think season 9 is a mistake. Lets not ruin a good thing. End when you're supposed to like Prison Break and go out strong.
-
Before you guys ask WTF, hear me out. I think Smallville should be considered set in its own continuity of not only the Superman mythos, but the DC universe as well. (After all, how would Smallville fit with the Lois & Clark series? And how does L&C fit with the movies? And, anyway, even the DC comics universe(s) is out of whack and rebooted every several years.)So about Nightwing. It could be implied that Batman (who would not appear on this show) is part of a "first generation" of costumed heroes. Basically, he's an old veteran. Nightwing (formerly Robin) could be Clark's colleague. Clark would represent the coming next generation of heroes. I think this could work, especially since Robin will probably never appear in a new Batman movie anytime soon (as long as Christopher Nolan is in charge of that franchise).
-
he actually wear the suit, they've stretched out the teen angst mellow drama stuff for too long, all fans agree that the mythos episodes are the best th series has to offer, why not fully move clark to metropolis and have him become superman, it could be like a superman year one with clark dealingwith the pressures of superman as well as wanting a normal lifethis season has been great but i don't know if i can handle another season of a 35 year old welling pretending he's a wide eyed farm kid
-
I don't think there's a better example of "show saving" than the last season of Smallville. Seemingly shitty ideas like Doomsday, missing Lex and Chloeniac executed in an awesome way. I hope they keep it up. (Also: I love how stupid that Supernatural commercial is)
-
but I may just check it out
-
It's a good show. You're talking to a person who didn't watch until the end of last season.
-
Seriously, how about introducing Jack Knight and spinning him off into that Starman series that got stuck in development hell years ago after they F'd up Birds of Prey? I, for one, vote for John Malkovich as The Shade.
-
i was ok with lana leaving, but when it was announced lex was going, i though crap the show is only gonna get worse and fall back into the rut of freak of the week to fill the gap of a main villian, but season 8 proved the show can not only survive without lex but its also slightly betteri do want to see lex return at some point even if its just for a 2 or 3 episode run, but i welcome a season 9 with new villans, now if he would just fully become superman, and wear the glasses as clark kent
-
While SMALLVILLE has been the best it's been in years, it needs to end this year. I suggest him going into "training" in the Fortress in the second to last episode, then the last episode take place 5 years later, and it's a two hour long Superman debut episode. End of series.
-
If Season 9 is at least as good as this season has been, I'm all for it. Doing the math, Clark should only be 22 years old next season (remember, he graduated high school in Season 4) so they could presumably keep him out of costume for another year, but with the Justice Little League around in costumes, it does seem a bit forced to not have him become Superman.
Looking forward to the Legion episode tonight, though. The Persuader looks almost dead on.
-
Could work if the following things happen:
In this season finale, Clark finally wears the uniform.
In the next season, they bring in the notion of Darkseid, and other supremely iconic villains -- if he hasn't already perhaps Lobo the bounty hunter should be hunting someone? Also more JLA stuff.
Season 9 should end with a fully formed Justice League, bereft only of a wonder woman. -
If he doesn't put on glasses soon, it's not going to be much of a disguise when he puts on a blue & red suit and his face stays the same. They toyed with the glasses factor a bunch of times throughout the series, having him wear them for various reasons and he would look at himself in the mirror and see how it could work. God this show has some really great moments. Anyone who disagrees just hasn't watched it enough.
-
AAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!
-
It's not Shakespeare or anything, but it's internally consistent, has a very enjoyable cast and is lots of fun. What be wrong with that, dog?
-
That's going to be a must-see event; CBS has been hyping the hell outta it for a month. They'll get monster numbers, I think for this episode.
-
I always watch Smallville and thoroughly enjoy it. I know it isn't Emmy material but it is entertaining enough. I definitely think Welling's acting chops have improved considerably the past couple seasons and think this season has been very good. I do think, however, that a ninth season may be a mistake. I'm sorry, but they have dragged out the Clark character as much as possible before him becoming Superman. I just don't see how one more season of teasing the viewers will work. Unless he is suited up, which will probably never happen, I just don't think it is going to be beneficial for the storyline. Basically, 9 seasons later, the fans still haven't seen him suited up.
-
This one's an easy fix. Obviously, Martian Manhunter is going to get his powers back (Thanks, Jor-El! Or whoever!). When Clark decides to put on the suit and start flying, J'onn can zap out a planetwide memory rewrite/suggestion so that everybody who knows Clark only knows him with glasses, and as the LAST possible person who could be Superman. And Chloe can more than easily hack every electronic record of Clark's face and either delete or modify the pictures. Easy.
-
THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!
-
I'm just sayin'
-
but the series has really kicked into high gear. If you haven't watched in a while, you owe it to yourself to catch it again.I'm all for another season, but it really needs to segue into a Metropolis series; having anything to do with Smallville is way past it's prime. Clark's SuperMAN now, he's no longer a kid by any stretch of the imagination.
-
This is to weird for me. I'm very attracted to Allison Mack and her portrayal of Chloe has charmed me and kept me watching. It's also fun to watch her take charge and be forceful/evil. HOT. But the idea of Chloe being dead just sucks. Normaly, since its a comic book and the villain talking i'd not give it any thought. But the show's runner have shown such a tendency to abuse her over the years I would not be surprised at anything bad they did to her.
major props to Allison for the acting. I'm also a fan of Marsters and she really does get a lot of his inflections, movement and body language down. In particular that half open eyed cold look and hilt swaying slightly like a snake as he intimidates or examines someone.

Theres a 3-epsidoe arc where Clark finally gets a secret identit
by mike_d
spoiler alert!
-
if they screw with that, they screw with the whole point of supes
-
Clark is going to adopt a alter ego called Captain Marvel and will fly.
-
I never would've guessed the season that lost Lex and introduced Doomsday could be this interesting. It's certainly better than Heroes lately.
-
It's been a fun season. Can't wait for more!
-
in a few weeks.
-
I'm just sayin'.
-
By say Clark is going to get a secret identity people need to calm down. It's means he going to star wearing a costume of sorts as opposed to fighting crime and saving the day in his red coat and blue t-shirt. But I guess it's just one more thing for the people who already hate Smallville to cry about. I have to give Herc some props this time around, this is the first Smallville talkback in like 7 yeards where he didn't slam the show in his posting. He just posted and included a little Supernatural action too. I don't know what you're smoking Herc but I hope you keep it up.
-
I can't wait to get home and download tonight's all new episode of....
SUPERNATURAL!!
Smallville can bite me. -
spoiler...again
-
sure this is Clark Kent?" Gotta love Lightning Lad.
-
why don't they just upgrade the show and call it "METROPOLIS", start a new and fresh series with Clark officially becoming Superman?
Tom Welling and the entire cast are looking too old to be going on and on in the town of Smallville.
With the proper promotion and design they could totally and finally give the fans what they've been waiting for: SUPERMAN -
Gimme a show in the 31st century with all the Legionaires! Total geek-gasm seeing this episode.
-
I've liked both shows more this year than any of the past few years.
-
It's been a long time since an episode has held my attention like tonight's. Wow. The Legion wasn't even cheesy. Good writing, effects. And Saturn Girl? She needs her own show. Jesus H. Christ!
-
I can't believe this show exists sometimes! I mean the number of Legion references and little things were awesome! I mean they even throw in a Fatal Five member! Crazy cool! I can't imagine many like this but for geeks is amazing!

This is why I've stuck by this show through the dark times.
by skidmarkedundies
Episodes like this one rewards the fans that don't jump ship at every false alarm. Congrats to those who are TRUE Smallville fans and stuck by the show thick and thin.
-
Smallville is back to being mediocre
Never read a Legion story that portrayed Lightning Lad as a spazzy dork -
"...You're acting like a sub." Awesome show tonight, especially all the geek references. Hope the Legion shows up in Season 9, if they're really going to go ahead with another season.
-

Was that one of Ron Weasley's brothers as Lightning Lad?
by nasty in the pasty
Smallville IS exceptionally good this season. I dunno about a ninth, but season eight has been terrifc thus far (even sans Lex).
-
Keep it up, CW.
-
next season where Clark goes to the future and hangs out.
-
Gave Clark to a lot to think about, lifted some lines directly from comics. They must think they have some hot shit to not run this during sweeps. Hope that hot shit is not LANA/CLARK/LOIS feelings drama, cause this was just about as good as it can get. Shoot even got the rings right.

Ok, that "Where's your cape?" line was pretty funny...
by royston lodge
'nuff said.
-
It is episodes like this that bring a new spin to the old Superboy mythos that I find the most interesting and rewarding. The Legion should have appeared in season three or four, so by now you could of had Brainiac Five, Chameleon Boy, Ultra Boy and Mon-El all make guest appearances by now.
-
But I really want them to get back to the heaven and hell war.
-
Paraphrasing here but "We've heard of Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen but have never heard of Chloe Sullivan."
I'm guessing that doesn't bode too well for her.
I also loved that Garth acted a bit like a spaz around Clark. I'd have to imagine it was like meeting George Washington, Elvis, and Jesus all wrapped up into one package. Of course he'd be a a little spazzed out. -
I recognized him form some documentary on the video game.
-
We have been saying it for several seasons now. Kill off Lois, and have Chloe take on the persona of her cousin Lois...and mind wipe the world so the Jimmie/Chloe relationship is unknown to everyone, including them, and when Clark goes to Metropolis to stay, he meets a Brunette Chloe anew, only they think it is for the first time, and he only knows her as Lois.
-
Stop the presses etc!
This has been the best Smallville in a long time - no Lex, no Gough/Millar = better show.
Just get rid of Lana once and for all.
God I hate that bitch. -
I've never heard you talk about Supernatural before....
-
just stop trying to pitch young robin and martian manhunter shows...
give us a legion show.
with this guys.
now. -
This could have really been something different if not for Geoff Johns writing. He brought the spirit of the Legion to the show that i believe could not have been done without him. Through the language used "Grife" "sprock" to the refrences of " such a Sub" or "Tharr" and even a code name "Lightining Lad". The baseball that Clark's father looked all over town for was straight out comic book that Geoff wrote. Also how cool was it to see Legion rings? Thanks Geoff.
-
Why was this the best Smallville since.....well Geoff Johns has proved that he can make anything awesome. Give him head writer duties from here on out
-
Johns made a crucial error. After Chloe was talking to Clark after her Braniac exorcism, she was talking about Braniac very knowingly. At first I was like how does she know about Brainiac? Then she remembered Clark's secret and I was ok. Good episode. I thought the Legion was gonna be lame, but they've probably been the best Super guests on the show so far.
-
I am so glad that this ep was great. It seems like the stigma of bad eps has been washed off. I hope they get Johns back to write the Doomsday battle stuff...
-
...so why the fuck doesn't he at least try? Every other Kryptonian can fly, it's really getting ridiculous that Clark is the only one that can't. He was even levitating off his bed in the first season, so it ain't a physical thing. It's approaching the level of absurdity the show had when Lana didn't know his secret after years of being on the edge of it. I don't care about the gay spandex outfit, just fucking let him fly already.
-
I've also been surprised in the jump in quality this season. I used to love the Lex character and when he finally went over the edge and killed his father, it was pretty awesome. But where do you go from there? It was an excellent decision to remove him but still feel his presence. The dynamic between him and Clark was utterly played out and became increasingly repetitive. I hope they keep him away permanently until the finale or at least until Clark comes up with the secret identity thing. Anyway, at first I wasn't impressed with Tess, but I've liked her more every episode. As far as this episode goes, I have little to no knowledge of the Legion, but I love how meta most of the things Lightning Lad said were - 'no flights, no tights' or the various fan theories about Chloe - gives her another name, dies to inspire him to become Supes, etc. Very clever writing. Also loved the little design shoutouts to Jack Kirby, with the Brainiac symbol and the dots on the one guy's uniform. And Saturn Girl was pretty well cast - she was a believable empath. The Supernatural episode was creepier than normal. Humans! Demons and monsters are fine, but feral humans? Disturbing. Reminded me a bit of the classic X-Files episode "Home." One question though? Did the children's father/grandfather throw ABC books down in the hole? Otherwise, how did they know how to spell to write those messages in blood?
-
Did you say johns wrote this episode? i thought it was great, but not johns great. last week i read the legion arc in johns' run of action comics...guy's a genius. I think they are going to reimagine the costume...i'm thinking a superman hoody...this season has been great, if you would have told me without lex (who i think everyone agrees that he was the best actor) its really starting to feel like a superman show. If they did lois and clark years ago, what possible reason would they have to not want to cash in on a continuation of the story with their reimagined superman??? it makes NO sense...its an automatic grand slam home run for ratings??? the business decision to not continue the story with clark as superman is even more stupid than NBC letting Scrubs go to ABC right after the show got syndicated! there must have been a TON of new fans cause of comedy central. Oh, and as far as supernatural goes, it is getting rediculously cool. if you've read the previous threads about smallville and heroes, you'd have seen that supernatural has come up and everyone who has seen it has drawn the same conclusion--its decent, but then when you get to season 1.5-2, it picks up so much steam and just snowballs into a better and better show. Most of us supernatural fans have not been watching since it started, and had low expectations, but eventually you realize that the show has gotten as good as any other show out there (within reason, obviously there's better hard hitting shows, but supernatural is about as good of a genre show as you can get--not from the start of the show, but at the current point of the show's life)
-
and i think they should keep it running as long as they can...what's the worst that can happen???h it could fall apart and we could stop watching or caring. but there's a decent chance it could improve on this season, mainly because of the superman plot speeding up under the new showrunners, so i say they should keep it going, we as viewers have nothing to lose...
-
now its finally watchable. all that wb dawson's creek teen angst ruined the series. thank god someone recognized that and had the balls to pull the trigger and get rid of those two clowns. when will someone put a stop to comic book movies and shows being controlled by people who don't show respect to the genre? Loved the scene where clark gets sliced open by the battle axe. keep the action coming, don't let up now. hope they bring lex back for a few eps and they should make this the last season of smallville. like someone said they should start a whole new series with Tom Welling in Metropolis as superman. the whole superboy can't fly bit is getting old and frankly was really lame from the get go. would've loved to have seen some superboy mid-air battles. Iron Man showed us how cool flying scenes can look. finally get rid of the actess playing lois lane she's lame. go after someone similar to the 80's actress who played lois in the movie.
-
i think lois is perfectly cast. the jury was out on her acting ability, but in that wedding episode, her performance was fantastic. I finally felt like lois and clark were meant to be together. it was subtle and in that one episode the show there was more 'romantic' moments that worked very well than the entire first seven seasons of the dawson's creek-esque 'romance' between clark and lana. i would attribute this to the new showrunners, who have effectively ressurected my interest in this show--when a new ep came out for the past few seasons, i would put off watching them, until i was really bored and had nothing else to do. now, i look foward to it way more than heroes, and watch the episodes immidiately. i think someone should start a petition to see the story go on with clark as superman...and somehow find a way to get the teenyboppers who love the show to let their voices be heard too...i've seen much crazier/hopeless efforts to petition for something here on this site before. Jericho was brought back because of a campaign, so if that worked, 'metropolis' could potentially work, because there are WAY more smallville fans who want to see a superman show than there were jericho fans who wanted the show to continue. it's a potential gold mine for the CW...and its a payoff that the fans deserve for sticking with it for 8-9 seasons. the show kind of owes 'metropolis' to the fans for keeping smallville alive so long. And it makes no sense to say it should end after this season, as i said. again, what is the worst that could happen??? we get bored and stop watching??? now what's the best that could happen??? clark gets more and more like superman and the dc universe plays larger and larger roles...it makes no sense to me why people call for a show to end...look at friday night lights--the third season finale tied up almost all the loose ends, but it could still come back for a season four. the creators of smallville should wrap some key things up, so if it does get cancelled, we'll be satisified, but they could also plant seeds for the next season. calling for a show to end is an extremely selfish statement, it's being completely inconsiderate to the fans who have a show they like and want to see go on--these fans have something to lose--a show they like. someone who wants a show to end has nothing to lose and nothing to gain. I will say, however, someone who wants a storyline to be tied up at the end of a season, with the possibility for another season, is making a more than fair request.
-
catch the brainiac 5 reference at the end ?? in the comics braniac 5 joins the legion to make amends for his predecessors evil.... very cool indeed.
-
yeah, i loved that comment about brainiac five. as i said above, i just finished geoff johns' action comics arc with the legion...complete coincidence that i timed it to go along with this new episode, but it made me appreciate this ep even more. I refuse to believe that johns' action comics arc with the legion did not influence this ep. in the arc, the legion needs to find clark before he becomes superman. in the arc, they also gave him a legion ring. great episode...this season is one of the great revivals of a floundering tv show i've ever seen. Kinda like Lost rebounding after season 2. (man, i MEGALOATHED that latina cop...I was overjoyed when she was killed...even though it meant that all those lame flashback stories of her were for absolutely nothing--i'm not gonna nitpick a continuity related thing like that, because she needed to die and die alot...i'd even enjoy seeing her somehow brought back in the show to be killed another few times...she could be like lost's kenny)
-
i liked the whole "tailie" angle but i disliked that they killed em all off so quickly...why introduce them if they would end up being irrelevant to the show ?...lol at "lost's kenny" "omg they killed ana lucia!!! kill her again !!!"
-
is back. "So shes some psycho Nell now?"
-
was no loss. they had stayed way past their sell by date. im actually loving smallville this season, but o be honest the inclusion of lana back into the show has perplexed me. the shows been fine without her and they really need to kick in the lois romance into high gear. i wouldnt mind a season 9 as long as it kicks it up a notch and get clark flying!
-
true DC/Superman fans of all ages, perhaps the best. Johns should write more of them. Bet we'll see The Legion again. They were perfect semi-realistic variations. (Lightning Lad - "Where's your cape?" - loved that). Of course how does Chloe fit into this Clark/Kal/Superman future? Stay tuned. I will. In fact, if Warner Bros was smart, they'd worry less about the feature film end, take just one year or so off with this case, re-sign the principals and called it...Metropolis. Weiling is so much better than Routh was/will ever be. He has that Clark earnestness down.
How they'll pull off the super-suit and the donning of classes, we'll see. But despite the original producers saying once he's in the suit it's over...nah. -
suggest the Metropolis thing.
-
don't beat yourself up over it. anyone with a brain can clearly see that the CW basically would be setting money on fire if they decide not to do a show called metropolis. keep jimmy, he's got it. keep the same lois, she's got it, and also has shown (in the wedding episode) that she can definately make the clark/lois relationship work better than the clark/lana...all those little moments work so much better with lois/clark than they did with lana/clark, because we all know that lois and clark are basically the pinnacle of a comic book romantic relationship...can you think of any comic that has a more solid relationship than superman and lois lane??? Every little thing that happens between them takes on such a bigger meaning because we know where its going. clark/lana love angle dragged on for way longer than anyone ever should have allowed it to go. i mean, what's the point of so much attention given between clark and lana's relationship??? we knew it was doomed from the start, yet they continued to use it for so long... i mean, take any soap opera or actually, any relationship on tv in general--there's the whole will they/won't they rollercoaster that we've seen a million times, but that doesn't work with clark and lana--its not will they/won't they--we already knew from the start: they won't. yet the writers kept pushing it for so long like it was fucking ross and rachel. But back to the point--the studio would be throwing away gold if they don't make a real superman show when they have a fantastic launch pad. How stupid do they really think the viewers are to think that we wouldn't be able to differentiate the television superman universe and the film superman universe. its absurd and frankly, insulting, to their viewership. they have no good reason not to do metropolis. the ratings will be rediculous, and it would be their top show by the end of the first episode. Like i said, let's get the petition going...this is the ONE instance i will EVER think a petition to a studio is a good idea...it is not an unreasonable request from the fans, and it is not a huge risk that they would be taking.
-
oh and, obviously (can't believe i let this out) keep tom welling. I hope he's not a tool that thinks he needs to move on with his acting career...how many kids have dreamt of being superman, in real life, or on TV? If welling were to go with the 'i don't want to be typecast' type of argument, i'd lose all respect for him. Face it--being superman for your entire career is an HONOR. its not being typecast. i hope the people who need to be involved know that.
-
I've been a fan since season 1, and I was really impressed. It was pure geek joy with all the superman references from lightning Lad. Like somebody said before, The CW would be nuts if they didn't greenlight a season 9. Thanks to al/miles for the 1st 7 seasons, but no "no flights, no tights" needs to go away!
-
But the overgoing teasing with the Superman references is getting cruel. And I thought Identity was mean when it came to dangling carrots of Clark becoming Superman.
Media Messiah
Chloe is never going to be Lois. NEVER. You hear me? Never. I can't believe some people are still wishing for this. It doesn't even make any sense.
Spifftacular Squirrel Girl
Paraphrasing here too, but I think it was '... I don't understand. We've heard of Lana
Lang, Lois Lane and even Jimmy Olsen. But not Chloe Sullivan,'
...oh how that was a major diss to all the Chloe fanbots/Lois haters. -
love him or hate 'em (I like a lot of Lois and Clark for what it was at the time), he wouldn't trade the chance to be one of history's Supermans for everything. Kind of like being part the Disney legacy doing voice work in one of their films.
-
This episode was the Behind The Green Door of Continuity Porn. I'm looking forward to further episodes by Mr. Johns. Perhaps a trip to Oa?
