Hitfix knows who will be playing Wallace in Edgar Wright's SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I'm extremely excited for Edgar Wright's upcoming film... I love Bryan Lee O'Malley's SCOTT PILGRIM books and I love Wright's flicks, so it's natural that I'd be excited for this movie. I have no earthly idea what the hell this movie will look like... at all, but that's kind of the excitement of the project for me. Edgar's going to be doing something different here.
Plus he's assembling a great cast. We already know he has Michael Cera as the title hero and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as his hottie girlfriend to be. Now he's gotten a Culkin according to Hitfix.

Kieran Culkin looks like a lock to play Scott's gay roommate, Wallace.

I love Scott and Wallace's interaction in the books... Wallace's humor is dry, but he's still a likable character.
I'm also a fan of Kieran's. I thought he turned in great performances in IGBY GOES DOWN and THE DANGEROUS LIVES OF ALTAR BOYS. It'll be very interesting to see how he bounces off of Michael Cera. What do you folks think?

Don't go too far for the scoops, eh? Well, at least Yahoo! News didn't beat you this time. And the cast isn't great. Great is not a word used for this film. The cast is par.

Where's Mac?

Meets every other entertainment blog, ever. Bless the internet. Same shit, same day.

And not because AVATAR made some juicy love to them.<p>That dude is ugly like dang.

The public need to know...

IS This reALLY where L Ron Hubbard LIVES!?! ...Tom Cruise is Totally in the Closet
-
If Michael Cera wasn't the lead. It's not that I don't like him, but... Well, I don't really like him.
-
Shoulda been Ian Somerhalder. That guy *is* Wallace Wells.
-
I've never heard of this Scott Pilgrim shit. Not interested.
-
Heckles, unlike you some of us don't have the time or the inclination to trawl every fucking internet site looking for news. Therefore, we don't give a fuck when AICN is late. <P>Twat.
-
get the fuck over the whole comic-to-movie thing already. I'm annoyed by this news. Can't we get adaptations or remakes of something else now? Like old Chuck Norris shows, turned into full length, 150 million dollar features?
-
old Ingmar Bergman movies, only in animated, and in full fucking colours?
-
Good choice though, I think. He was good in Igby. Why the non-O'Malley art?
-
as much as I loved that kid in Arrested Development, he's been playing the same "shy, bundle of nerves, unsure of himself, slightly geeky"nerd schtick in every film since whether it suited the role or not (Paulie in Juno, seemed to be written as a slightly cooler character, kinda like Juno herself)...seeing as Scott Pilgrim is a cocky, self assured borderline arrogant guy who thinks he can literally take on the world, I get fears that Cera will mis-interpret the role and play him as George Michael Bluth again. I've been turned off the guy slightly anyway-in Total Film last month he seemed really mopey in an interview, said there was no point to an Development film (though all the other cast members, included ron howard are up for it)and talked about retiring soon...I dunno kid, you might want to act as a different character before you do that, eh? Apologies, rant over
-
Have you watched Clark and Michael? http://www.clarkandmichael.com/index.php Cera plays a kind of inept, arrogant tool in that. Slightly geeky, sure, but much more like Scott.
-
...Moriarty still sucking the penis of mediocre entertainers to get half assed uninteresting stories.
-
Is HitFix Mori's site, or has someone over there headhunted him?<p> By the way, I came across Mori's profile over on Digg, he's added all the dodgy "Powerusers" and SEO's to his friend list in order to game the system and drive traffic towards Hitfix. Good on him I spose, I'd do the same.
-
But he has no charisma. Culkin is always adequate. Underwhelming thus far.
-
an arrested development movie. My guess is he'll play exactly like he does in every movie.
-
Cast an asian character with an asian actor? Nah who gives a fuck about that eh? Fuck you edgar we get enough of this crap from hollywood. <br><br> Oh and I agree about the Cera criticisms. I loved him in AD but the guy plays the same character (or worse, just performs every character as the same character even when they shouldn't be) and he's not what we need from scott pilgrim. <br><br> Also how are they condenscing all 7 ex boyfriends into one film?
-
Culkin was very good in Igby Goes Down. Terrible photo though.
-
I've been checking the site hoping to read some of Mori's reviews but he doesn't seem to do them anymore! Or worse, the couple he has done have been short, character-less pieces that just describe the plot. Wtf Mori? Have you been neutered by HF?
-
Broadie and Poot shot Wallace in the Low Rises when Stringer Bell thought he was snitchin'. Don't you guys know ANYTHING?
-
Hey lex, maybe you can do two seconds worth of research before taking a message board guy's word. Scott Pilgrim is not Asian. The comic is Manga, so I guess that just means the other poster believes that if it's Manga, it has to be Asian - so who's the racist one now? There's a Japanese character named Knives Chow and I'm sure that they'll cast her accordingly. And furthermore Scott Pilgrim is a fantastic book, they're not just doing it because it's a comic - they're doing it because it's awesome.
-
I know scott pilgrim is canadian and written by a canadian, that's not what I was talking about and you didn't seem to understand my post at all. <br><br>His roommate Wallace, who we're talking about being cast in this talkaback, is asian. To cast someone who is not asian is just a big fuck you, and I'd expect better from Edgar. Are they honestly saying there was no asian actors in canada that were good enough for the role?
-
I can't stand him. In (the overrated) SUPERBAD he annoyed the fuck out me, too. <p> Plus, he's looks like another annoying twat - Simon Amstell. <p> Here's a pic of him. <p> http://www.comedycv.co.uk/simonamstell/index.htm
-
I think the 'Motion Captured' section of HitFix is good, but I'm a fan of his writing. But the rest of the site is nothing new or exciting. Those kinds of sites come ten a penny. But hey, it's a brand new site, give it time and a chance. I hope Mori has success with it. <p> Mind you, he's had a few exclusives over the past couple of weeks - the WATCHMEN producer letter, KICK ASS images, and now SCOTT PILGRIM casting news. Not bad for a new site. Some movie sites would kill for those kind of exclusives, ESPECIALLY in the first few weeks of its existence.

Eh? Did Scott Pilgrim suddenly get funny or something?
by Speed Fricassee
'Cause I always thought it was pretty FREAKIN' LAME!!!!

Great critically-acclaimed little indie in which he stars, and then...nothing. He's got a lot coming up now, but from 2002-2008 IMDb is empty. Wonder if it was a calculated break or something.

There are no Asian actors in Canada... But we do have a handful of eskimos that might work...

by Bobman46
Will he use a bunch of self referential jokes in there or just do bits from and lines from other films that hide as ideas and jokes in there like he did in his other films? Spaced is great, although it's really just a bunch of referencing of films on the whole which works ok as it was tv. Shaun of the Dead is a work to be proud of. Funny, scary and you care BUT I still felt the little references to other films could have taken a break. Then we have Hot Fuzz - haha funny cos it sounds like it's about a hairy vagina. There was a good story in there somewhere but it got lost under all the references again plus it descended into a huge mess at the end where I was waiting it out to finish. It looked like one of those films that your slightly wealthier friend made with his Dad's , or usually his, video camera with all his smug mates jumpin about doing "pastiches" of film they like and half smiling through it all. I know some of you will say that was the point but I expected more. I think he's a good director but needs to drop the jokey geek way of showing he likes films too and just tell a good story.
-
Go away.
-
It had it's moments Jawa 007 but overall, meh. And no, cos I'm allowed to have my own opinion. Cheers!
-
but I hate Spaced. I've tried at least five times to get into it, and the show just isn't funny. Simon Peggs character is likeable enough (goodwill from Big Train always passes on to him) but the show is just dull, and no where near as clever or original as everyone thinks. Empire magazine did a massive article on it recently praising it up and down just cos it referenced films-I mean they didnt invent the concept!I mean even Swingers had the whole "guys living in a hole, referencing films they love through their actions" schtick done pretty well back in the mid 90s. Referencing films has been done in almost every episode of The Simpsons and that started, what, ten years before? And they didnt exactly invent it either....I mean I keep veing told the show is almost tailor made to my tastes :Im an irish film student living in liverpool in a falt like the characters in spaced. I like all flicks they refernce too...yet the show just sends me to sleep. I just don't get why its so popular....but to each his own I guess.
-
But Wallace is Asian? Where's that said?
-
...it looks like the Access Hollywood website.
-
Where on earth did anybody get that idea?
-
<p>Your opinions have been rendered completely moot for 2 reasons:</p> <p>1) You are the only person on the planet who thought that the title of Hot Fuzz was supposed to be funny because it sounded like a "hairy vagina".</p> <p>You still use the non-word "meh". Do us, and yourself, a favor and get yourself a vocabulary. People actually consider the opinions of others when they've taken the time to construct their thoughts in coherent sentences composed of actual words.</p>

Having never heard of Edgar Wright, the Scott Pilgrim books, or Kieran Culkin, I am absolutely about to shit chocolate Easter bunnies at this AMAZING news!!!!!!!!

Am I the only one who thought she was kind of cute when she was a little porky, but now that she's down to Hollywood-prescribed Auschwitzness, she looks like the Witch King after he had a sword stuck in his face and he was sucking everything in?
-
Fuck off! How's that for a vocabulary? If you actually notice, I was replying to a post which simply told me to go away. Now, given then the fact that you have chosen to attack me for using the term "meh"- it perfectly sums up how I felt about the film. Quick and throwaway. And you appear to be saying that because my opinion is different from yours that it is somehow invalid. You're doing yourself no favours there. I didn't think it was the second coming a lot of people did and sorry if you feel you have to grasp at straws and small points to invalidate - there's a bit word motherfucker- my post. If you read what I posted, I was very careful to make sure it was all my opinion and not be inconsiderate of other people's opinions. Cheers for just being unpleasant. How's that for sentences made out of words you dolt

I promise.
-
Wells? Asian? Have people actually cracked the book before accusing Edgar Wright of being a Hollywood-minded whitebread? Here's a quote from Bryan Lee O'Malley himself -- from today -- about THIS TALKBACK: "Kind of hilarious: at the aint it cool news version of this story, there's a huge battle in the comments about how Wallace Wells is supposed to be ASIAN (Japanese?) and they are VERY disappointed in Edgar Wright's insensitivity. Whaaaat?" There you go. Straight from the horse's mouth (not my girlfriend's). Here's the link to the site: http://www.radiomaru.com/
-
It's a fucking cartoon character.
-
wiki'd it. Still can't figure out what fucking demo this is aimed at.
-
Like "Haruhi Suzumiya"? Not that I'd see that either, unless there was gratuitious Hentai style nudity, but at least some people in the general public have heard of it.
-
Jan. 15, 2009, 12:51 p.m. CST
Why does it matter if the general public has heard of it?
by The_Coyote
It's an absolutely fantastic comic book nonetheless. It doesn't matter if the source material is popular. They're going to sell this movie off Cera and Wright's names, not O'Malleys.
-
Brian Lee O'Mally, creator of Scott Pilgrim, is laughing at this stupid Wallace is Asian nonsense. http://radiomaru.com/ And the whole "why are they making this if no one has heard of it" crap? Five bucks says these are the same people bemoaning every movie re-make...
-
If this is strickly a Canadian release...and kept on a VERY small budget...maybe they will break even. Outside that Market/and places like AICN...your average movie go'er won't have a clue as to who those people are. Hell...most movie go'ers don't go to a movie based on who is in it anyway...witness "Rightious Kill". They better have ONE HELL of a Marketing scheme to get the right demo interested is all I can say.
-
Get some sun ya pale fuck.
-
Cera as in Michael Cera, the star of Superbad, which was a huge hit, and Juno, which was also a huge hit. And Wright being Edgar Wright, director of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, two films which have a considerable fan following here in the states. Also, I'm 99 percent certain the film isn't a Canadian Release. It will be out in the states as well as abroad. And trust me, if this film is done right, the right demo will be very interested upon seeing a trailer for the first time. It's definitely for the teens and twenties crowd.

Jesus, I wonder how many people had heard of Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep? before they saw Blade Runner or Farewell To The Master before the wrapped their eyes round The Day The Earth Stood Still...no, no we should just make films out of big name comic book heroes and remakes of films weve seen before...
-
My thoughts exactly.
-
Who cares about this movie or another CULKIN! I thought the Culkin family died in a plane crash a long time ago, to my horror they did not!
-
<p>I would have read your response, but as I noted earlier, your opinions are no longer of any value.</p> <p>"Hot Fuzz - haha funny cos it sounds like it's about a hairy vagina." I'm still reeling over this earlier assinine comment of yours. Oh, and "cos" isn't an actual word either. Did you ever go to school?</p>
-
Jesus mate, You've just astounded me. Things like you are doing are one of the reasons that posting anything on a thread here can end up in a downward spiral into stupidity. Sorry. Still, look at what you're doing - wasting your time and now I feel my time as you're obviously after some kind of response, picking small things out of a post to comment on. Just trying to point out in as pleasant a way as possible that you have some kind of problem and I don't know who did it to you but it wasn't me! Opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one. You would know.
-
I'm highly educated thanks and enjoying the benefits of said education. You?
-
Hehehe. Fucking lame.
-
I take back my point then. <br><br> However if you're reading this Bryan Lee, your drawings made Wallace look asian. Hence assumptions he was asian. <br><br> Also, any opinion on the scott pilgrim script bryan? I mean, I know you're going to be supporting it no matter what but I'm just concerned how they'll condensce all the evil-exs into one film. Oh and will the films resolution be different from the comic books? Because it's gonna be weird seeing the ending of the series on film before it's finished on paper.
-
He looks high.
-
... with slanty eyes and some mascara. Not into these castings, not at all. Then again, Edgar's the Wright guy for the job, so hey - its not like nipples on Ozymandias... YET.

I'm surprised they're shilling his new home at Hitfix.

roles... Oh wait, nevermind.
