Learn What Amy Poehler’s Not-Spinoff Of THE OFFICE Is About!!
I am – Hercules!!
The new Amy Poehler sitcom from “The Office” writer-producers Greg Daniels and Mike Schur still doesn’t have a title, but we now know its setting.
From Thursday morning’s Hollywood Reporter:
[The sitcom] is set in the office of Amy (Poehler), deputy chairman of the department of parks and recreations in Pawnee, Ind.
The NBC sitcom began life as an “Office” spinoff, but evolved into a non-spinoff after Poehler became its lead. Co-stars include Rashida Jones (“The Office”), Aziz Ansari (“Human Giant”) and newly added Aubrey Plaza (Judd Apatow’s upcoming Seth Rogen-Adam Sandler movie “Funny People”), who will play the Poehler character’s intern.

I don't understand the non-spinoff direction.
-
Poehler is funniest in character. If she's just playing herself this will suck.
-
it's about six episodes before cancellation.
-
sorry bout that chief
-
ansara is fucking hilarious. i met him on the streets of nyc years ago while he was hustling. it was outside of a "comedians of comedy" show and he was promoting something he was doing at the UCB theater. the guy couldn't have been nicer, glad to see things are working out for him. plus rashida jones is slamming, so im definitely gonna have to check this one out.
-
...of The Office or not a spinoff of The Office... ... ... Why would you choose to make it *not* a spinoff of The Office? Is there anyone else sensing the stupidity here?
-
She's too hot for tv-only career.
-
It's still in an office, by the people that make The Office, with at least one actor from The Office, etc. "OH BUT NOW IT'S SO DIFFERENT".
-
Normally I'd say something like 'the hottness' or 'damn I'd tap that like Ben Vareen', but she's above that. Talented woman. Would be cool if this gig works out for her. And she's hot.
-
Not even Greg Daniels will be able to save this thing.
-
... was great in the first 2 episodes of Scrubs. I think they've finished filiming all the episodes so shouldn't conflict with new show. He was also brilliant as the fruit seller in Flight of the Conchords. "Too many mother-uckers!"
-
thats right, i totally forgot that that was him. without a doubt the funniest episode of flight of the conchords. "why don't you go back to new zealand and put another shrimp on the barbie!"
-
And the original is only occasionally interesting.
-
Brilliant.
-
Two things just occurred to me
1)Ricky Gervais
2)Steven Merchant
Well, you can probably include the BBC in there as well. NBC develops a spin-off of The Office, then they stand to get paid. If the premise was different enough to begin with that by changing or eliminating a few elements or characters makes it a stand-alone then...
Just a theory.
-
Rashida Jones.
Rashida Jones.
enough said.
-
I think it would work.
-
Not really.
-
then making it a non-spin off is a good thing. for every spin off that did work, there are 3 that didnt.

this, of course, is if it's good enough.
-
I'm sure that's the reason they are doing it this way. In any case this concept sounds boring.
-
That's odd.
-
Why even make this crap?!
-
What spinoff could they come up with that wouldn't have a stench of death about it? Dunder Mifflin Trenton? Stanley and Andy as odd-couple roommates? An OFFICE-style show outside the OFFICE premise strikes me as a preferable notion.

Over-rated! clap clap clap-clap-clap Over-rated! clap clap clap-clap-clap
-
the spin-off they should have done is Vance Refrigeration. That has all sorts of funny potential.
-
that's all I needed to hear
-
Man you hit it on the head with Lois Lane, I thought that when I saw Superman Returns with blah boring Kate Bosworth. That movie was missing some energy humor and spunk, and rashida has got that margot kidder vibe. Man just wishing it were all true in my parallel universe of goodness and booze.
-
The last show that took place in Indiana was Close to Home, that lawyer drama that was in a suburb of Indianapolis.
-
FINALLY! I've thought that ever since the first time I saw Rashida, and I'm surprised I haven't heard anyone else say it before. If they were going for the whole look alike vibe (which seems like they were given Brandon's resemblance to Christopher), Rashida would have been a perfect choice to replace Margot Kidder.
