Didn’t Know It Was A Devil Town!! Tonight Brings Maybe The Last New Episode Of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Ever!!

Published at:  Jan 14, 2009 4:05:38 PM CST

SPOILER ALERT !!

I am – Hercules!!

“Up until two years ago
I had enough hate in my heart
to start a fricking car!!”

Last week Lyla Garrity had to line her toilet seat with coffee filters just before Tim Riggins’ older brother nearly peed on her. Landry had to get tough with Tyra about her college essay.

“Friday Night Lights” grows more rock & roll with each passing installment.

On other fronts, The Taylors called in child protective services for the new QB1. Matt’s mom got involved in her boy’s new career path. And Riggins left his cleats on the playing field of Texas Memorial Stadium.

What an episode!

Tonight the 3rd season finale hits DirecTV’s channel 101. Friday the 3rd season premiere hits NBC. Its performance during the broadcast run will determine whether it gets a fourth season.

DirecTV says of the season (and perhaps series) finale:

Five months later, Coach Taylor’s contract is up for review on Billy and Mindy’s wedding day. Tyra grow anxious about her waitlist status. Matt leaves Grandma Saracen and Julie behind to attend college. Tim and Lyla question their future together.

9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT. Wednesday. DirecTV.
9 p.m. Friday. NBC.

(By the way, DirecTV 101 appears to be satcasting at 8 p.m. the pilot for Diablo Cody’s quite entertaining multiple-personality sitcom “The United States of Tara,” which doesn’t hit Showtime till Sunday.)

One of the best shows ever (seriously)

    by clockpolitiks

I don't watch many dramas, let alone dramas about teens playing football in Texas, but this show is off the charts. It's sad that it still never gets any recognition or ratings. The show is so heartfelt and the acting/storylines are phenomenal. Even though half the cast is leaving for college, I've still never wanted another show to continue more than this one. The characters, music, and the overall story are pretty great.

What a quality drama! Like 'The Wire,' a gritty, realistic drama with a dedicated fan base and no recognition. Worth investing in.

Only recently have I really seriously appreciated the editing & pacing of this show (among all of its other qualities.) Scenes and beats are just the right length, cutaways never too obvious or overplayed, love it.

    by orange cinema

even though only 5 or 6 of us have posted here, we gotta spread the word around so that more will watch the 'rerun' season on NBC.

this season 3 was maybe even better than season 1. i have 5 shows that i faithfully watch, and FNL is as good if not better than all of them. i won't spoil the way the panthers season ended, but i will say it was PERFECTLY written, and couldn't have ended any other way. if anyone knows a good way to spread the word, lemme know, cuz it would be a shame for tv if this show was cancelled.

It's strange that so many people...

...who normally don't give a fuck about dramas (or TV at all) are obsessed with this show. I've always thought it looked like the same type of bullshit as the OC and whatnot. Is it really that good?

Yeah, it's pretty great. I just started netflixing it, and I'm about halfway through the 1st season, so I can't speak to the quality of later eps. But so far, it's as good an hour-long as has been on network t.v. in about forever. Not quite at the highest level of t.v. (like the holy HBO trinity of The Sopranos, Deadwood, The Wire), but right up there with the best of the rest - at least so far.

I'm in the same boat as you, I just decided to check this out and am about 1/2 through the first season. Thus far I honestly think the acting is some of the best on TV and considering the fact the cast is young and unknown for the most part that surprised me. The way they actually make these believable characters and they have developed them so well is great. There are some heart wrenching parts, some funny parts, some just amazing parts.

Overall I would recomend this show to anyone who wants a good drama, because this show certainly fits the bill. I'm taping the "new" season starting Friday and hope to catch up by the end of the weekend.

One of the Absolute BEST. The acting and writing are a knockout combo. This show will make stars of these young actors ... not to mention elevating Peter Berg's Directing & Producing cred. Guy's good!

    by willips brighton

Season two, yeah ... it's not *bad*, but there are some storylines that went too far.And as far as a fourth season, it pains me to say it, but might as well go out while it's on top. No way you could cut back-n-forth between our favorite characters all season, and they haven't exactly set up any incoming stars besides J.D.

    FNL will be missed.

    by duck of death

I think the frustrating thing about trying to convey to people why they should be watching this show is that, from the outside, it looks like a typical hourlong family drama/soap, like some kind of 7th Heaven, One Tree Hill bullshit. I mean, a show about a small-town Texas football team, its coach and his family? Snore. But that's like saying The Wire is just a cop show. Friday Night Lights is something special, and I'm sorry it's probably not going to last much longer. Frankly, I'd rather have more seasons of this show than Pushing Daisies, and I really liked Pushing Daisies.

    FNL is amazing

    by la_resistance28

Duck of Death, I agree, the most frustrating thing about FNL is trying to hook people into watching it. Because well, it's so easy to call it a football show, or a teen drama show, or a family show, and I mean, yeah, it is all that, but it's so much more. It's the sum of all its small, touching moments that make it so amazing. But the best part of FNL is that once you show anybody one or two episodes, they are HOOKED. Spread the word, FNL fans!

    by deathpool

Friday Night Lights is probably the best hour of network television of the past twenty years. I love me some Lost, BSG, Heroes and the like, but FNL is just something special. It pains me that this could be the end, but better to go out on top then turn into crap. Whoever said this show is going to launch careers was right on the money. Clear eyes, full hearts, CAN'T LOSE!

OK, all of the main characters are gone, but no. Back up becomes the new Jason Street son-in-law coaching mentor. Revenge upon the Old Dillon school that wife stays at. What else does NBC have to look forward to? This being the lead in to the new Jay Leno show?

    by willips brighton

Well, they're not *all* gone ... Landry & Titty (er, I mean Julie) are seniors next year, and Sarecen made a last-second decision to stick around for Grandma (bad idea, but it makes sense.) Love the potential of Coach Taylor building a team from scratch at East Dillon. Provides some potential heated rivalry, too. I was anti-season 4 for awhile, but this episode changed my mind. We'll see....

this show is so solid and better than the movie (which i thought was pretty damn good) It really is the complete package, and i think it all starts in the direction...i mean, a show can have 1-3 GREAT actors, but really thats only if its an exceptional show. Friday night lights is an exceptional show. every character is completely well cast, and every actor acts their asses off and all have their own character traits and flaws. All the performances are so good that you can ask all the fans who their favorite characters are and everyone would have different picks, cause they are all that good. As mentioned, the music really has a huge effect on the show, and its different than what you hear on most shows--most shows you don't really consider the musics effect on the show, but the music here really puts the show over the edge. The storylines are as believable as the characters reactions to them. After watching this episode i will finally be able to accept it ending, as nearly everything is wrapped up...i didn't want it to end after season 2 cause there was so much left to do. saracen is an unbelievably sympathetic character who has such a rough life but never complains about his situation once. Bringing a new character in to be the new quarterback was a fantastic plot decision, and the fact that he's rich and has a father who is as involved as he could possibly be with his son makes jd mcoy the complete opposite of saracen. seeing what happens at state (don't want to spoil it) was such a huge payoff to all the storylines leading up to it. Even the minor characters are key additions...seriously, i can't say enough about this show. you don't see a complete package like this often, especially when you take into account that it has such a wide demographic--kids can watch with their parents (my parents love it)...whereas other complete package shows like the wire only appeal to a certain kind of viewer.

and when i said state, i meant season 3 state. Riggins is also sympathetic in a way that extremely different than the way saracen is sympathetic...which is one of the most impressive things found in this show--the audience can feel similar types of emotions to the characters, but the way the show elicits those similar emotional reactions the viewer feels are all different. its like a bunch of freeways all leading to one point where they all intersect--you wind up with the same reactions for a bunch of the characters, but the way you get there for each character is different. I will admit though, that season two can be a stretch at times, but that's only because in retrospect, seasons 1 and 3 are just so damn good that this show sets its own bar so high. I don't understand why people come into threads like this to make comments like: "ZZZZZZZZZZ" or "why should i care?" instead of, well, actually meaning it when you say 'why should i care.' read what people think. i defy anyone to come into this thread and has seen at least most of the episodes, and rip it. you just can't. it's not supposed to be as good as it is.

I hope it does get another season, but with Adrienne Palicki and Minka Kelly gone it won't be the same... Maybe it's best if it does end with 3 season. I do wish they'd won State again though....
