New AVATAR set pic! Awesome future bed!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. If memory serves, we're only a month or two away from Cameron doing his rounds showing off footage from the eye-ball invading AVATAR. It seems all the official stills to come out so far are Cameron-centric with a little bit of the sets around him providing fodder for the uber geeks (myself included).
We get a lot more of the look of the production design on the flick in this below picture that showed up at the NYTimes.

If I'm not mistaken, that bed is going to be the Avatar connection port. I don't know about you, but those sets look absolutely incredible. My eyeballs are preparing themselves for a loving night of intimacy coming next December...
Also, in case you missed it... there was a sneaky, sneaky picture that showed up of one of the Army guys holding a massive gun. Click here to check it out over at MarketSaw.

...insist on being sealed up when sleeping? I guess cause it looks cool.
-
Avatar MAY be totally awesome, but there's nothing about that set pic that's particularly mind-blowing. Looks like Minority Report, starring James Cameron
-
You can fuck my eyeballs anyday.
-
this movie is about and why it will be fucking my eyeballs?
-
because if not, then no thank you, sir!
-
I'm as excited as anyone for Cameron's return to sci-fi, but the set (what we can see of it) looks, well, like a set. Could be Star Trek, The Matrix, or Aliens Vs. Whatever. Cool.
Let's not drown ourselves in hype, shall we? -
...when he's doing sci-fi.
T1&2, Aliens and Abyss are all landmark films.
No more of that "Titanic" B.S. -
seriously, it's james cameron, and it's sci-fi
-
Come on Jim, give us a trailer, a clip, a poster, something. I need to know if my excitement over this is in any way justified.
-
I was afraid he had left us. He was one of the most imaginitive tech sci-fi film-makers of our time. He invents, designs and personally helps build most of the tech in his movies. When "Titanic" happened I thought he was going to due a Spielberg and abandon the genre for "more important" films. Then after the INSANE success of "Titanic" I was afraid he was going to leave film-making all together. I mean, how do you top that? You don't. There's no where to go from there except down (speaking in terms of box-office). So he spent years on an endless adventure, exploring the ocean's mysteries and planning a trip into space. Now he's back, like the phoenix or the prodigal son. I say welcome back, Big Jim, we missed you.
-
Because no one outside of this medium knows what the fuck Avatar is.
-
It doesn't awful, it just exists.

I actually found something that sounds worse than this!!
by dannyglovers_dickblood
Starz's new cable TV series version of "Spartacus" will be "a totally R-rated-hard-hard show" producers Rob Tapert and Steven S. DeKnight tell THR Feed.
The producers see an opportunity for an intensely graphic action-drama series, described as 'Gladiator' meets 'Deadwood', with the first draft of the script essentially NC-17 in terms of sex and violence that had to be toned down just a bit.
"Much like ‘300,’ there will be a visual beauty to the way it is shot. There’s an ode to violence ... there are decapitations, people being split in half ... we don’t want to shy away form violence or sexuality. The beauty of being on premium cable is there is no story we can’t tell" says DeKnight.
The 100% green-screen production will cover the same ground as Stanley Kubrick's 1960 film take on the property, plus have additional characters and story lines. -
It's so unlike every other sci-fi flick I've ever seen. What's to get worked up about, it's only a fucking bed...thing!!
My eyeballs will remain un-fucked thanks. -
Because some people actually give a shit about story and don't just slide a director's cock in their mouth for merely existing. This story sounds like dog shit. A 3D gimmick and the dude that directed Titanic does not automatically make something great.
-
what is so eyeball fucking about this movie? please don't take this as being a hater or cynical, its not my intent, its a serious question, because I have not yet seen anything other than a couple of stills of Cameron on set with an actor. Can someone please tell me what is groudbreaking and amazing about the film.. apart from it being directed by James Cameron. Or at least point me in the direction of concept art or production stills that have something terrific in them. I want to be as jazzed as you all seem to be about the project but I can't at the moment.
-
sorry harry
-
It sounds like God of War meets HBO's Rome...I smell a guilty pleasure... for about two or three episodes.
-
All this talk of Cameron "returning to form" and "his roots" should not overlook his take on a romantic, human interest story (Titanic) in which the story was horribly paced and the exposition in general rested all of its emotion on a cheesy song. Anyone ever tried rewatching Titanic? It's actually very tough to sit through without critiquing negatively every 4 minutes.
-
Until an official still or some production art is released. Seriously. A set pic does nothing for whatever Cameron is hoping to accomplish.
-
I came in right when the haters dropped in.. now I sound like every other fucking hater on here.. again, not my intent, just want more than what I'm getting to be excited about the project. If someone can point me in the direction of something worth looking at from this movie please don't hesitate. Cheers.
-
Thanks, Reluctant Austinite, although I haven't been gone that long. I was here just this morning.
-
How many times did I play the sex mini-game in God of War? 18. So? I'm in a miserable nonsexual relationship. I've earned the right.

Man you need to shake those bitches off like fleas. Remember, if you lower your standards a little-- some good cunt isn't hard to procure.

I am not, by definition, a hater. In fact, most "haters" actually are haters because they hate "haters." Follow? I actually am genuinely curious as to WHY we should be so amped for this. Someone convince me, for real.

-
Heh. You Boycott Proponents are WEAK.
-
Yeah - of course. Still, you're not having those nightmares anymore... right? It's been 23 years.
-
Titanic was a stupid movie. Aliens was a favorite o mine, but that was a LONG time go. I'm not sold just because "Jim Cameron made it".
-
Have you seen Wall-E?
Anyways, what's the deal with this flick? I don't understand the hype. I follow this site just like everybody else, but I feel like I missed a few dozen posts in which it's explained why I should care about this movie, much less get my eyeballs poked out by a cinematic Cameron wiener. -
It needs pillows.
-
....this shit will totally fucking bomb. There are only so many loser 45 olds that still jerk off to T2. To most of the movie going audience the title "FROM THE DIRECTOR OF T2" means nothing anymore.
-
I'm ten times more interested in any Avatar: The Last Airbender news. I'm still sore JC is bogarting the title.
-
i have hot sisters, but they are too good for you guys.
-
You're supposed to care because its James Fucking Cameron and he is employing a nifty new gimmick....have you heard of it? It's called 3D!!
-
I'll concede that T2 is cheesy... but it has Ahnuld doing the thumbs up. He learns to be human... but he's not human. It's deep, yo. Oscar material. WOOOOOOOOOO
-
My name is fucking OZYMANDIAS. I'm the only person too good for me.
-
this movie has the potential to be fun. obviously it's too early to predict if the film's going to suck ass or kick ass.
pros:
alienst1t2cameron's history of technical achievement
cons
motion capture (it bugs the hell out of me)
titanic was way melodramatic and over the top, but the world cameron created was pretty amazing. -
slow news day eh?

that was his best...no doubt
why not just hire him to remake alien3...yknow like it shoulda been? a kick ass huge fuckin budget human vs alien war on a dark bleak devastated earth of the future....that ends on a really dark sour note about how humans are actually worst than the aliens...... oh man...im hard now -
...is that they typically make ALL the visible tech futuristic looking. And that's just not real.I was watching A SCANNER DARKLY w/ the commentary on and Linklater made a good point. That RIGHT NOW technology is comprised of a patchwork or eras. Not EVERYONE drives a 2009 Prius.Yet in most future movies with flying cars...EVERYONE has a flying car.I can think of few exceptions...Children of Men being one.
-
Nice, Maluquiro.
"...with the...with the thumb." -
after looking at this picture.
-
I'm constantly bitching about that with period films set in the 40s and 50s. What the fuck-- everyone has a brand new car at that time?!! There's no old timer down the street with a truck from the 20s or 30s? I hate that shit. Everything is brand new for that period. I think thats what people found so attractive with the original Star Wars trilogy was that there was a ton of old non-working junk laying around. Like half the shit in the future doesn't work right. Of course he fucked that all up with the Prequels by trying to convince the audience "Don't worry folks! 40 years prior.....everything is brand spankin' new!"
-
The stars have all aligned for you to eat the biggest shitburger in talkback history! You are going to look like one dumb motherfucker this December.........

If they expect me to pay 25 bucks to see a movie in 3D...
by pissed off and bitter
Cameron, the movie studios, and the movie chains can collectively sucks my balls. Movie prices are way beyond high now. I went to the Santa Anita AMC and they charged me 12 buck for Benjamin Button. Then the assholes said I had to wait outside for an hour before the movie started. Not only did I get my money back but I specifically told the dickheads at AMC that I'll download it instead. Now they want to pull the same shit and my hard earned cash because a movie's in 3D? They can go FUCK THEMSLEVES!!! We're already in a recession dammit!!!
-
They use water streams to massage your whole body.
-
Tales of Ancient Empire.
-
Since everyone is jumping on the trend of "Avatar will fuck my eyeballs" I will pay some a SPFX genius to create an animatronic James C. with a 12' woody and charge $100 to come get your eyes fucked. I'm gonna be rich you idiots, RICH! Right now, get one eye fucked and get the other screwed for FREE!
-
People like you are the reason this site's gone down the tube. It's not enough that you enjoy a flick, no you have to 'win' by praying that people you don't know change an opinion about a film. That's one of the most pointless 'victories' of all time.

Hahahahahaaa! Brown? Nose? Huh?
-
I must admit that I am very disappointed with the set pictures from Cameron's "Avatar" movie. They look like old Star Trek sets from Voyager and/or Enterprise. He must have got them cheap from Rick Bermen. I expected more from him. I guess he is slipping as he gets older.
-
Dudes in all the publicity stills.
-
with balls big enough to attempt new ways of delivering cinematic TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION.
-
But I've been here since the beginning and the only thing that drags this site down are talkbackers like DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD. I have seen many like him come and go in the last decade plus. See, his problem is that he "knows" AVATAR is going to suck because of his laundry-list of circumstantial reasons. I know that AVATAR is going to be a cinematic landmark in the way that KING KONG and JURASSIC PARK were and will change movies forever because.............. well, let's just say that I just do. Don't worry, you'll know too this December! And lastly, you're wrong about one critical thing: I don't give two shits if D.G.D.B likes, is indifferent, loves, or hates AVATAR. I'm just saying he's going to look stupid this December.
-
For those asking why we should expect something great with Avatar (and I am not someone who has said word one about eyeballs or who gives a shit about Avatar's source material):
Terminator
Terminator 2
The Abyss
Titanic - All time box office champ and a well made movie whatever you think of it.
Aliens
Any questions? Really? -
Now that's... cool news?
-
More idiots slamming Cameron. How amusing.
-
Me too. I'll always remember it, I was 10 years old, I had the day off school because I was ill (well, pretending). Anyway, this was the first day release for rental of TERMINATOR 2, my dad had already booked ages ago. Then we watched that Monday afternoon. Man, WHAT A FUCKIN FILM. When Arnie stick his thumb up to John I cried like a baby. One truly great film.
But, maluquiro... I think, well know that The Guru himself - James Cameron - is gonna surpass everything he's done in the past - now that is saying something. He even said a few months back that AVATAR is the most rewarding and most challenging film he's ever done.
Only 344 days left
Or 11 months and 7 days
Or 8,184 hours
Or 491,037 minutes
Who'd be a fanboy, eh?
p.s. If AVATAR isn't released here in England on the same day as America, well... it looks like I'm coming to America!! Mind you, I'm thinking about going to New York next Christmas anyway.
-
I didn't see your similar post. Great minds think alike.
-
3d pics or fail.
-
I don't think we really need to December, do we?
-
Thats true. I come here to bitch. If I wanna say something nice I call someone I care about.
-
... I think of the forthcoming AVATAR trailer. This is a great tune, but I know Cameron will use something that fits it better.
From 0:53, just imagine on the screen at the cinema - "A James Cameron film..."
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fprW3HxdMAY -
Yawn. He should make a movie about a robot assassin from the future who meets and befriends a sensitive teenage boy with a dead father and an absent mother. Soon, the deadly robot assassin from the future becomes a father figure to the young man, asking him questions about emotions and how to say goodbye. Later on in the film, we find that, like Old Yeller, the unstoppable robot assassin from the future must be taken out back the barn and shot. Lacking a barn, the young sensitive man, weeping like an 8 year old girl, is forced to melt his new found robodaddy in a vat of molten steel (or whatever) while a really unconvincing method actress pretends she's butch behind him. Thats the kind of movie he should make. He could use something like Poison or Brittany Foxxx on the soundtrack, or, something just as lame...
-
I bet Dickblood is fat, mute 3ft midget in real life.
-
For those that didn't know what that means it means the movie is made and released in 3D.
-
that shirt Cameron is wearing, he get it at the flea market?
-
Anyone who compares Cameron to Bay obviously knows anything about film.
Yawn that. -
pussycat people
-
Dude you got serious problems. I talk a lot of shit and do a lot of bitching, but seriously what the fuck? Just imagine on screen A JAMES CAMERON FILM? You really adore him that much? The idea of the guy's name on a title card seriously gets you excited? Its shit like that, that breeds the so-called "Haters." This shit has become a fucking joke. There is nothing more ignorant than blind worship. You're a decent guy. And I understand you're just trying to counter my negativity. But come on.
-
T2 is the template for the Michael Bay aesthetic - choppy, stiff, amatuerish editing, with LOTS of big explosions to cover it up. T2 made Michael Bay's career possible. It is the first Michael Bay blockbuster.
Oh, and seriously, ANYONE that includes Cameron, implying that he is a "great" and/or "important" director in a discussion of the art of film is a fucking idiot. He makes big dumb loud popcorn movies for big dumb loud people. And thats fine, have at it, I like dumb stuff too. Oh, and two of his big dumb loud popcorn B movies were actually quite good -- Terminator and Aliens -- whilst the rest were shit. I mean, seriously, he's not a Kubrick or a Kurosawa. Shit, he's not even a Coppolia or Scorcese! He's like a... Michael Bay. A slightly more intelligent Michael Bay. -
my prediction for this film we'll get another Abyss rather than a T2.....honestly I think I'd be more excited if he was working on a follow up to True Lies- now there a movie that could use a sequel...
-
If this is nothing short of the Lawrence of Arabia of science fiction films it will be a failure.
-
...since I was twelve. Um, not that I know from experience...I saw it on TV. I wasn't anywhere near Micheal Jackson's bed when I was twelve.
-
But I think he wants it bigger.
-
I'm hoping a trailer or something -- ANYTHING -- will change that.
-
I'll go watch any Cameron movie, but come on, using these photos as proof of this movie's awesomeness is a bit of a stretch. It's just Jim Cameron, arms crossed standing in front of a green screen.
-
...soon we will all be sleeping in shrink wrapped plastic tubes...
-
Like I said - who'd be a fanboy. I've never wanted to see a film as much as this. JURASSIC PARK was the first real biggie, and KING KONG more recently, but this is on a different level.
-
Stick to the porn. Mind you, I bet you'd love to use "the tanning bed" in one of your movies, eh?
-
DANNYGLOVERS_DICKBLOOD is a trolling motherfucker. Once you have been subjected to his nonsense for a while, you like the rest of us will just skip his posts.

-
...Cameron is obviously racing motorcross.
-
Seriously, go out there and mention the name to any person you meet, they'll mostly draw a blank. General audiences don't give a fuck who James Cameron is, let alone a generic sounding plot of a sci-fi movie. That 3-D gimmick won't help either. My eyeballs would prob'ly be fucked and bleed from the awfulness of the much heaped 3D works.
-
The marketing should use "From The Director of Titanic" instead.
-
...looks to me like Nolan told him get ready.
-
Did MJ sleep there in the late-80's??
-
It looks like Avatar will be bathed in blues as all his prior films have been.
-
Everyone thinks every 'Berg flick that comes out is gonna be great because they have the memories of fantastic movies he made over 20 years ago. Cameron is now in the same position. He's OLD now, he can't make Aliens 2 just like the Berg couldn't make Raiders 2.
-
"Because no one outside of this medium knows what the fuck Avatar is." dannyglover's right--the amount of hype that the geeks here are putting on this movie is so out of control...you're all setting yourselves up for a huge letdown. Contrary to popular beliefs (of course, not the popular beliefs HERE) Cameron is not a god. it'll be good, but all this eyeball fucking talk is absolutely rediculous.
-
WILL THERE BE A SQUID!?!?!?!?! THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS. NO SQUID, NO DEAL.
-
"I'm ten times more interested in any Avatar: The Last Airbender news." Hell yeah! I heard all this talk about cameron's avatar and was very excited when i got thinking about what cameron would do with that material. I even downloaded the whole run of the show and watched it for the sole reason that i thought cameron saw something in it. then i got bummed when i found out i was wrong. i see alot of potential for a film adaptation of last airbender, but then i got bummed a second time when i heard M Night Shamalamadingdong was doing it--since when does he do action??? The Happening sucked, and as i'm watching it i'm thinking 'ok they'll be a cool plot twist at the end' and then...nothing. the plot twist was that there was no plot twist. garbage.
-
(i'm just going through this and responding as i go...got nothin better to do at the moment) Brian's Life: "is that they typically make ALL the visible tech futuristic looking. And that's just not real." Excellent point, and that's why battlestar galactica kicks ass--old looking phones with cords, radar not too different, they still use paper...all those little things make the show believable, and make it appear like its a military drama, except with spaceships.
-
"More idiots slamming Cameron. How amusing." no, its realists slamming the idiots who are talking like this is the second coming. They're slamming you guys for your eyeball fuck talk. show me a trailer...send me the script.
-
it's overhyped guys, who cares about this crap? fuck james cameron, and every other old ass overrated director.
-
Bond, James Bond.
-
I get fooled every time.
-
Hey I like most of Cameron's films (not Titanic!) but all this hype based on not a lot of information is just a bit O.T.T don't you think? Every filmmaker has at least one turkey in them...look how long we waited for another Star Wars movie, and we all hoped it would be an 'eyeball fucker'...it was anything but. Just calm the fuck down people! If it's good - great, if it's shit - ah well, but realise that no-one likes the smug cunt who says "I told you so"...
-
email akirarakber@yahoo.com he has it
As for my opinion, I think its going to be a great adventure sci-fi movie and be wonderfull to look at, but I think the Enviromental message is going to grate on alot of people. Even Cameron said something like he doesn't know if the stories any good or not.
But that gun gets my pre-cum just oozing out -
Because during the 90's, it seemed that he was really maturing as a filmmaker, writer, and storyteller. His work on "Titanic" was phenomenal, and he did an even better job with "Terminator 2." And he did a very good satire called "True Lies." Will he keep this up?? I hope so. I don't want him to go back the lame, and out-dated production value of "Terminator", and "Aliens." And I hope he won't go back to being an immature, and inept writer like he was back in the 80's.
Because "Aliens" was just some dumb action flick, with substance, and character development. It had cheap one-liners, idiotic characters, ridiculous situations, and the Aliens were more like termites, instead of really frightening creatures. And his work on "The Abyss" was above average at best. It's a nice looking film, with good special effects, but it is very out-dated. And the love story was dull, predictable, and just plain stupid. The dialogue was also very cheesy, and juvenile. Cameron's work in the 80's was sub par, compared to what he accomplished in the 90's. And his work on "Dark Knight" was great as well. Sadly, it was cut too short, before it could reach it's full potential. Hopefully, he will really bloom with "Avatar", and show the world that he has finally matured as a director. And maybe one day, he'll be compared to other legendary filmmakers like Stanley Kubrick, Fritz Lang, DW Griffith, and Steven Spielberg. Until then, we'll have to wait and see. :) -
All the posts about it and I've never seen one plot description.
Not that is matters what the plot is.
It'll end up an overhyped letdown, anyway -
I thought this was coming out this summer.
Jesus. I'm sick of waiting for this. -

Pal, you're lucky this is cyberspace, because if someone said that to me in real life I'd probably smack em upside just as a reflex. Just some dumb action movie??!! You mean the same "dumb action movie" considered to be, along with die hard, the best action movie ever made? I'd love to hear what you consider a good action movie then.
-
Great fucking series! :)
-
fuck this movie!!! This video game movie looks so stupid. jims camerin is so ovarated. he only make like 3 movies! big fuckin deal! mos of them suck anyway. titanic. that shit was wacked. alien. im supposed to be scarred by puppets---pleese. livin in the hood is scareier then that thing. the terminaters 1 was like the only good one and even that shit was kind of gay with all the naked dudes runnin around. he must be a pedalfile.
-
I have no words to express my underwhelmedness.
-
aliens and stargate and abyss into one big eyeball fucking movie. i see nothing spectacular here. moving along.
-
It was, and it has not stood the test of time. It's not as great as "Alien", and the production value looks like sh!t. "Alien" looks like it was made yesterday, but a truly great artist in his prime. And anybody who considers it to be the great action flick of all time, is simply lacking any knowledge of that genre. Yes, it had substance, and some good character developement. But it was all cheap, especially the one liners. And giving Ripley a nuclear family was for sentimental reasons, and it doesn't have a lasting impact on it's viewers anymore. It's not daring, since all it does it cater to the MTV crowd, and those Marines were absolutely annoying, and horrid. Only Sanchez was able to walk away with some dignity. It's not cheap, it's not meaningful, and it is not an important film. It was not built to last. Atleast not in my opinion. Personally, I think it is one of Cameron's weakest efforts.
-
thats fuckin hilarious

Its fucking retarded. And its no surprised its still worshiped in a world where MMA is getting record ratings.

Cameron made some great films (T2 being the best), but Aliens was not that great. Just too many plot holes and dumb shit in there...it was good for its time but hasn't held up.

It's about an injured marine 200 years in the future who allows an alien to possess him (i.e., as an avatar. They are caught in a war on the alien's planet. Yawn! Oh, Where was I? Oh yes, drama ensues.

No Cameron film is ever going to top the excitement of seeing Jurassic Park in the theater. That's still the best movie experience of my life. I know it's not a perfect movie, but that didn't matter to 12 year old.
-
Dude cracks me up. I dont know if he is or not, but once i saw he was a teacher i had this new found respect for him and I dont know why. Lighten the fuck up people.
-
Someone put The Abyss: Special Edition on the blurays and mail it to me. Thanks in advance. Also, I know little about this movie and hope to remain that way until viewing it.
-
"ALIENS WAS, IS, AND EVER SHALL BE...
The single greatest Sci Fi/Action/Monster flick EVER made. Period. "
Stupidest statement ever on AICN. (Well, outside of a Watchmen talkbalk anyway.) How in the hell were you able to type that with a straight face? It's got fucking Paul Reiser in it, thereby disqualifying Aliens from being the best anything. -
James Cameron has had critical and financial success, likes geeky things like anime and comic books, but yet people on here still thinks he's an overrated hack? This is why the studios don't take our opinions seriously because of stupid shit like that.
-
Wasn't that like 20 years ago? That boat movie was almost as bad as the Happening.Question, why should I believe that my eyeballs will molested in 2009? Because a bunch of nerds hope it will be so, and they have the perfect echo chamber at AICN to try and convince each other that might happen?
-
Know squid, know peace. There's your real stupid, milf lover. I would add on a serious note that Reiser's death in ALIENS is most satisfying.
-
bring on the pain, my eye sockets are ready.
-
Cameron heard we'd need one.
-
I think at this point AVATARDED should be a negetive word. The people who hype it for no reason are AVATARDED.
-
First a picture of Cameron pointing, now this. Bad signs of hype to come.
-
Aliens seems moronic in that context. Still fin, but moronic.
-
Everything I've heard about this movie has elicited a ho-hum response. He ripped off the name of that anime, he stole the name of link's fairy from Ocarina of Time, and it took me a while to hear about how the "new technology he developed" was just fuckin' 3D. So, until I see something unbelievably awesome, I remain slightly hopeful, but not exactly freakin' out. And I would consider True Lies, Aliens, and T2 to be some of the pillars of the modern action film, pillars upon which such greats as Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich now stand.
-
The Abyss was the fin one. *snap*
-
As was Alien but as a kid growing up in the early 90's I was completely blown away by ALIENS. To this day, I still love that film. I don't understand how people can feel it doesn't hold up.
-
I simply never thought it was particularly good to begin with, so in that regard it holds up great.
-
One of the greatest horror movies ever made. ALIENS, however, was a really well made, fun flick. The former will truly stand the test of time, though, imo.
-
"pillars upon which such greats as Michael Bay and Roland Emmerich now stand." ------ are u fucking serious? Please tell me you were joking and I missed the joke because that is the funniest thing I've ever read on this site...LMFAO
-
who dies in Kahn's arms and says "Yours is superior...". Alien is like Kahn.
-
hater who just want to hate becuase it's 'cool' to be contrary? or are you just hater because you're clueless and have no taste in films?
it's cameron. it's sci-fi. in a post matrix and LOTR era. if you can't get hyped up at that notion, you're just clueless relly. nothing in the movie world today can get any bigger than cameron's return. -
All too often we movie fans get the shaft by these guys. Not anymore. I well remember the insanity here over the SW prequels..."Lucas is Back", "Dark and almost Shakespearean", "My GOD that Teaser Poster made me cum"!...simply because Lucas was doing Star Wars/Sci-Fi..it was assumed that it would indeed be the second fucking coming. More recently this thing happened with Indy IV...again simply because of the names attached. You'd think people would learn...but here we go again. So it is Cameron doing Sci-Fi...so what?! Think about this...Lucas did Fucking "Willow" and "Howard the Duck" and look what we got with the Prequels and Indy, all the warning signs were there...and yet Lucas got a Pass with the Prequels. Now, Cameron did that Ode to Estrogen "Titanic"...a crappy, sappy movie that played to the same demographic that thinks Oprah can turn Water into Slimfast....see where this is going? I hope its good...but Cameron has to prove it too me...No Pass here buddy. By the way...and having this be crappy MoCap, and the laden with the gimmick of 3D he is off to a VERY bad start in my book.
-
it's what i hate about today's moviegoers. you just need to be spoilt about everything about a movie, dont you? every details need to be leaked, every design concept peeked, every plots twist exposed, every cool money shots HAS TO be seen! that's why studios keep churning out tons of variations of trailer for one movie, spoiling most of the cool moments, even when the release of said movie is mere weeks away!
you just CANNOT FUCKING WAIT, can you? your movie watching experience will be that much more enjoyable without seeing bits and pieces of it taken out of context in the trailers, i guarantee you. -
I honestly do not understand how people can say Aliens is good or that it holds up, with a straight face. I find parts of it enjoyable (last 20 mins) but as a whole its about as dumb and entertaining as The Rock. And to say it holds up? What the fuck? Have you watched it on DVD lately? It looks like absolute shit. The photography is atrocious, the rear projection and blue screen work is shit. Stan Winston's stuff is good-- but he is always good. If not for Stan Winston-- Aliens would have been absolutely forgettable garbage. Seriously ask yourself what you find memorable about that film...I guaranfuckingtee it has something to do with Winston's work. To follow up a film as beautiful and smart and terrifying as Alien with some dumbed down machismo military shoot 'em up bullshit like Aliens is a motherfucking joke. It pretty much reaffirms Cameron's pattern. He always has to rely on a gimmick. 3D....here we come!
-
set in space. really, what's great about it is the design, of the set and the conception of the alien itself. but really, what's the difference that one and a regular haunted house movie, charater and plot wise? how is ripley any different than any of the last female victim in any horror movie?
aliens is much more original in its use of the concept. there's a reason it's one of the most imitated movie. -
Aliens is Ten Little Indians/Niggers on a spaceship, and a bunch of other gothic horror/who'll be next flicks/stories too. Jeez dude. You're straining yourself.
And the thing with Scarecrow, yeah fair enough to a degree, but your version doesn't work either because that's not the point of the scene. Let's just agree Scarecrow was a self-indulgent and redundant inclusion. -
I will reserve judgment on this, more because I want to believe Cameron can pull this off opposed to actually thinking he will. The story is subpar, wikipedia will help you here :). It appears to be some kind of environmental thing which worked so well in The Happening I can't see how it won't be huge here. Things are so bad right now who knows, but my gut feeling is it will be teh suck.
-
Let us know when there's something we HAVEN'T seen a million times since 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY came out.
-
You got 'em riled this time mate!
-
lucas vs spielberg vs cameron. of the three, which one has never made a shitty film? than you know why one is much more deserving of our anticipation.
lucas was showing signs of mediocrity with the indy chronicle and the tampering of the original stawars. cameron has the hindsight of seeing lucas coming back from his hibernation to make 3 spectacularly crappy movies, and then seeing how LOTR changed the game. -
just like all tech, it's merely a gimmick when used poorly, but it can become art when used by someone with taste. canvas is just a white board. a brick is just a brick. so how does monalisa and coloseum came to be? trust the man, not the tech.
-
Holy crap, I can't believe people are reviving the ALIEN vs. ALIENS battle again.
-
How about the HUD camera shots with the motion tracker beeping, while the wind howls outside,
how about the sound of the M41A pulse rifles and the smart gun ripping apart the elephant screaming aliens,
how about the some of the shots of the aliens themselves, in the ceiling, rising out the water behind Newt, the Queens "throne room", following them down the corridor to the elevator
the end battle with bishop getting ripped apart, the queen chasing Newt and then the loader
I know its far from a perfect movie, I love Kubrick, Kurosawa, fellini blah blah blah movies, but for me them things have stayed with me ever since I watched the movie when I was about 7. Surely you guys have some such film to? -
"...some kind of environmental thing which worked so well in The Happening..." Nothing worked well in the happening! NOTHING! It's the worst film ever! So bad it makes 'Lady In The Water' look good!
-
seriously, I'd rather wath 'High School Musical' than ever watch that turd again. Zooey Deschanel or not!
-
the first film stay well within the confine of the horror film genre(the plot is the same with any teen slasher movie), while cameron try to not be confined within any one genre. you can call it action, horror, war film. any of those label suit the film just fine.
-
and you know this from wikipedia??? you know what other story sounds subpar? a robot coming from the future to save a boy. a huge shark terrorizing a small town. a midget needs to find a ring with his gay friend, or a big freaking eyeball is going to enslave mankind.
for pete's sake, people! just wait until you see how cameron makes it all cool before condemning the story, will you? it's all the in HOW, anyway. -
As opposed to seeing the dude's zipper in Alien? As opposed to whatever the fuck those colors were at the end of Alien that were supposedly supposed to look like an explosion or something? Aliens looked fine. Alien looked fine. They BOTH look look like shit judging from the perspective of someone living in 2009, but I don't judge them from the point of view of someone living in 2009 because that's not when the fucking movies were made. Yes, Aliens IS a big dumb action movie. Yes, James Cameron IS like a smarter Michael Bay. Yes, the original Alien DID look like shit. And yes, the set design in Aliens looked fine. And no, contrary to popular belief, Alien wasn't a particularly smart movie either. They're BOTH big dumb movies, and yes, they are BOTH classics. They BOTH hold up just as well today. Whether that means that they're both amazing or that they're both shit, I'll leave that up to you.
-
Bullshit. Did you even read the post you wrote? Watch me say this with a straight face:Not only does ALIENS hold up, it is one of the most effective and infinitely rewatchable action movies ever made. To call it a "dumbed down machismo military shoot 'em up" completely misses the simplest point made in the film = the overconfident macho military jingoistic types get their asses kicked. Hard.As for asking oneself what's memorable about it, I suggest you read CharyouTree's post for starters and then try getting your bullish head out of your ass. Anyone who says with a straight face that ALIENS has "nothing memorable" is either lying or trolling for kicks.
-
Read my post before you start quoting me, cunt. I said everything memorable in that film is thanks to Stan Winston. I never said there is nothing memorable in it. So thanks for proving my point. Now fuck off so I can go to sleep.
-
Sucked enough of Harry's balls? How is that going for you? Oh it was just a joke?! Riiiiiiight.
-
James Cameron! You are not Stanley Kubrick! Release the fucking movie already!
-
Sure, they get their asses kicked in the process of winning. But the Marines still win. Meanwhile, the poor Alien queen was just minding her own business by feeding on the closest thing available to natural prey, and popping out babies at the same rate as a rabbit. Alien Queen likes to have babies, and Alien Queen likes to eat. Then Ripley comes along, and kills every single one of the Queen's children right in front of her. And that was unnecesary. Alien Queen gave Ripley and Newt a chance to walk away. And Hell, if Ripley had just walked away, the entire facility STILL would have blown up, which STILL would have killed all of the Aliens. But no, Ripley jeopardized ALL of that by going into a totally irrational militaristic "fuck things up" display of firepower. This had every reason to set the stage for disaster. The Queen RIGHTFULLY got EXTREMELY MAD.
-
This movie is too good for that black hole of innovation.
-
in alien, she's just trying to survive. it was pure luck that she was always at the right place at the right time, while the rest of the crew got killed one by one.
in aliens, she was a warrior. she drove the tank into an ambush to save the marines. she was a natural leader there. and she showed love and determination when newt was taken, going alone into the hive, and facing the queen. this is what makes ripley one of the most memorable character in the genre. the ripley in the first film barely registers. it's the alien that's the main interest there. -
That's for sure. But which Ripley? The neophyte from Alien? The Soldier? The Prisoner/Martyr? The Hybrid Clone? Well considering I'm a huge slut I would probably fuck them all.Preferably at the same time. In conclusion your debates are as productive as mine, mine just involve fucking.
-
In addition, Ripley wasted ALL of her ammunition on shooting eggs. Fucking EGGS whose only sin was SITTING THERE MOTIONLESS on the fucking floor. Ripley became the bad guy, as far as I'm concerned. She totally abused the power that she had in her hands, with blatant disregard for the well being of both the marines waiting on the dropship AND her "new daughter". The Alien Queen on the other hand, had a LEGITIMATE complaint. Alien Queen was doing EXACTLY what she was doing. Sitting on her ass popping out eggs. Then some angry hateful bitch walks into her home uninvited, starts murdering her kids, and then expects there not to be consequences? Ripley was fueled by hate and a need to kill, the Alien Queen was fueled by a desire to survive. And Ripley won. The Aliens had JUST as much right to be there as the humans. Maybe moreso, because the ALIENS didn't build a fucking spaceship to take them to that planet. The humans DID go there intentionally when they could have just stayed away. An Alien species whose naturally tendency is to kill everything, is brought to LV-426 AGAINST THEIR WILL. Furthermore, THEY CAN'T LEAVE. Later humans arrive there VOLUNTARILY, find coexistence difficult, and decide to simply KILL every last fucking one of them. And that's what they did. Humans won. Ripley won. The marines won. They surely SUFFERED, but they WON. Against an "enemy" that was no more "evil" than a tapeworm.
-
What's next? An entire post for, look a toothbrush in Avatar! Newsflash! Look at the floor in Avatar! Ooooh!
-
Hey man, I'm not going to judge you.
-
she wants her tanning bed back. And Aliens, like Alien, is a fucking masterpiece.
-
I see your point, and it's been made here a million times before, but all I can comment on is what's in front of us now. If I had seen the movie I could of course have a more informed opnion but looking at the facts right now and one incredible dull picture of a bed there's not much to get excited about. The sentiment that Danny and other's have of being skeptical in the current film environment makes more sense to me than to start deep throating Cameron based off previous wins. As one talkbacker already said, quite brilliantly, after Indiana Jones no one gets a free pass.
-
I mean seriously, of all the movies to pick apart and call bullshit on, you guys pick fucking aliens?
One of the most quotable action movies ever?
Not to mention one of the most influential (90% of videogames (halo for instance), countless movies). I honestly can't think of any grounds you could criticize it on. You call it "stupid", but its not in any way dumber than Alien was, and personally, for action movies, they're pretty intelligent.
Technically, I think its effects hold up remarkably well today (and much better than Alien), and the last 40 minutes are some of the most intense non-stop action I've ever seen. -
That you don't have one? Because your defense doesn't hold up. To simply say that Stan Winston's contributions are the ONLY thing memorable in the film makes you look even more foolish than your "straight face" comment.
-
T1 is the better film - and aliens? - alien 3 is a better movie and a better alien sequel - all aliens had going for it was its scale and fx - the abyss is cameron's high point as far as im concerned - its only drawback being its length - i am not sold on this new one - the fact that james cameron is finally making another (non-doc) movie doesnt get me excited - because the only reason he is making this is to experiment with new technology - he has said as much - why didnt he make it in 2d 5-10 years ago?... a good story is a good story - 3d is not enough of a bonus to get me pumped - im more excited about the possibility of seeing the original star wars trilogy in 3d than i am about avatar
-
Even if it is a joke.Ain't that right, Gus Van Rant?
-
the queen should stop making babies when she won't even bother to teach her kids how to conduct properly. kidnapping little girls is bad. ripley has every right to be pissed off. dont make babies and if you're a lousy parent.
-
you need to pull your own head out of your ass - aliens was the shit in 1986 - now it feels dated - the acting and dialog is weaker than any seen in a star gate episode - it broke new ground in fx etc - but for me its now as cringe worthy as the sw prequels (which i still prefer to watch over any alien sequel) - alien (by scott) is a vastly superior film than aliens - you bring up a good and valid point though - aliens is a great "action" movie - it succeeds in spades as such - but it doesnt stand the same test of time as alien - imo
-
I am lubing up all my other sockets too, just in case my eye sockets become raw and AVATAR still has some fucking to do.
-
6'2" german broads with no ass are not sexy - just sayin
-
... by him - in the eyes, but still fucked - pansies
-
The Aliens CAN'T just STOP eating people any more than a DOG can stop eating products made out of meat. It's not a voluntary decision that makes me die if I eat poison hemlock, it's a natural function of my mere existence, and I never asked to be born. Some people are born with sickle cell anemia, some people are born with Elephant Man Disease, and some people are born inseparably attached to another person. Likewise, the tapeworm doesn't ASK to be born so that it can eat out your intestines, it is simply born to do what it is meant to do. And choosing to not do this means that it will die.
-
... i hope they are not in this
-
you should know that the title avatar has very much to do with the 3D tech. sure you can do the same story a few years back, but without the current tech i doubt it's not going to have the same impact. if a good story is a good story and can be made anytime, you think stars wars would be cool if made in the 30's with paper models?
-
... with their neon striped tails
-
if you think the happening "worked so well", then i think avatar will be the greatest thing you've ever seen. trust me on this.:)
-
you should know i dont give a fuck - you made my point for me... "sure you can do the same story a few years back, but without the current tech i doubt it's not going to have the same impact"... exactly - and star wars was made in the 1930s and was cool - it was called flash gordon - and it still rocks - the fx dont make or break it - its the commitment given by all parties involved that make it work - even the silly fx work - its called sincerity - would the abyss be a better movie in 3d? - no, it would be the same but with a gimmick attached
-
I agree with Laserpants that T1 is a LOT better than T2. But to be fair, T1 wasn't THAT great either. It was a cool little clever movie with a nice "Twilight Zone" style twist, and it was competently made (at least for the time and budget). But it's not a masterpiece, it's another dumb movie that oozes talent. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a James Cameron "hater". I've liked most of his movies to some degree or another. But he MOSTLY makes big dumb movies.
-
I can understand your point (kind of). At least you make a rational argument about it, I'm mostly reacting to people like DickBlood just making bullshit blanket statements about a very good movie.
In terms of Aliens vs Alien, thats always a tossup between people, and really I think an argument can be made for either (I love both very much). What always bugs me about Alien is the really bad effects shots at the end (the triple explosion, no idea why it blows up 3 times, also the alien flying outside the ship looks awful).
Otherwise its a very beautiful movie, I agree with you there. -
and non digital projection
-
the great thing about alien (as opposed to aliens) is it succeeds in spite of its fx - aliens succeeds because of its fx - take them away and its all the more sillier - all that 80s machismo juvenile dialog - it was the a-team with great fucking fx and models - for the record, i like it too - but im honest about why i like it and what it is - a b-action/monster movie with an a-budget
-
I don't just make blanket statements and say FUCK ALIENS, and refuse to go into details. I've gone into great detail about why that movie blows cock. Its a dumb action movie with corny dialogue, shitty looking sets, bad costumes, and terrible fucking effects. Thats fine, its just a stupid action movie.....so is The Transporter. I love that film. But I'm not sitting here telling people that French dude is some impactful filmmaker thats changing the face of cinema. Its mind blowing the guy that made True Fucking Lies is hailed as an amazing filmmaker. What....the fuck?! John McTiernan (even with Rollerball) is easily 10 times the filmmaker Cameron ever was.
-
Again it comes down to preference. You're probably right, Alien is the better movie (just from a creative and artistic standpoint). Aliens is a bit more entertaining for me personally so I enjoy it more, but they're both up in my top 10.
-

but you're right......it comes down to preference.

No one is right, and no one is wrong.
-
There is nothing exciting about that picture.
-
T1 showed that JC had balls and deserved to be directing movies - its a great low budget movie - i remember going to see it with my big brother, because arnold was in it and playing a villain - it was much better than i expected and i still enjoy it - it felt kinda like a walter hill movie - gritty, intimate, tense - JC made it look and feel like more than what it is considering the budget - which is a great skill - i agree, he makes big dumb movies - but he makes them very well - back to avatar, i wish he had more incentive to do this now than just 3d - id care more - i still say the abyss was his high point
-
...as suggested above. You know, I love JC's movies to death, but I am forced to agree with this comparison.
A lot smarter, though. To the point of actually having well-structured plotlines.
JC can make things blow up really well, and make good on the chase scenes. His character interaction feels a bit wooden, but the clarity of storytelling and the grasp of technology is second to none. -
Explain to me how the costumes, effects, and sets are shitty??
I just cannot see where you're coming from on this. What are you comparing them to? For a movie made in 1986, its effects are top notch (especially considering it only cost 18 million to make).
And you say Cameron makes really stupid action movies. I disagree.
Transformers, The Rock, Rollerball, are really fucking stupid action movies.
Cameron writes memorable characters, he doesn't do stupid ass jokey shit every five seconds, and he knows how to keep a camera steady. And what, by the way, is wrong with True Lies? It only has some of the biggest scale action scenes in action movie history (that jet stuff at the end still hasn't been topped for me. And it was done without CG!). -
...then he saw star wars
-
It's funny how some people come on here saying that the diffence between Cameron and people like Lucas is that Cameron never made a bad film. Then they post list of the films that he directed, and 90% of them omit True Lies.
Sure, Cameron made Terminator (I think it's the best out of that series, but I appear to be in the minority). Yeah, he did Terminator 2 (mostly shit). Yeah, he did Aliens (I love that movie, but I can certainly see how some people can dismiss it as shit). The Abyss (BIG movie that was big and SHITTY. And also along with T2 strayed way too far into the superficial Hallmark Channel style of over-sentimentality that makes a lot of his movies unbearable for me). Don't get me wrong, I LIKE a lot of his movies. But I still either think that most of them are shit, or like them despite the fact that they are mostly shit.
And yeah, I liked True Lies, mostly. It was still shit, though. -
"Explain to me how the costumes, effects, and sets are shitty??" - maybe because they look like costumes, fx and sets - which is ok, but everyone has there own taste - i love (as bad as it is) the black hole - its a great bad movie that i can re-watch - with its bad costumes, fx and sets - krull is good to - as far as good bad movies go
-
...wouldn't it be awful if this film turned out to be a bag of old wank?
-
except for the striptease scene - major boner fuel
-
i see. star wars is just flash gordon with a gimmick. the tech doesn't help the story at all. hmm.. okay.
the point with 3D is to blur the fourth wall. it's to draw you IN to the world. what cameron doing is not just to have things coming out at you from the movie screens(which he said as much), it's to engulf you with the surroundings he created.
like i said, all techs are just gimmicks in the hands of hacks. it can be an art in the hands of artists. -
If you like the movie, then its not a shit movie (unless it's so bad its good, but I don't think that's the case here).
-
The lovely Jamie Lee Curtis does a great strip routine but it stops before we can see her naked!!!!! If you dont think that's wrong....
-
star wars (the first one) has a lot more going for it than its fx - which by todays standards are nearly as silly as those in flash gordon
-
true lies has action scenes that have been studied and imitated by many directors. the morpheus rescue scene from the first matrix, the bridge scene in I:M3, the harrier jet vs semi in diehard4. you think a shitty film can be that much imitated?
true lies got no mention because it's not his most popular film. but his weaker film are still GREAT. it still bests any summer films made by any bay or sommers or whatever. plus, it's genuiely funny. how many actions directors can do comedy this well? -
i dont need a 3d venue in order to be immersed in a movie's world - i felt very immersed in the sw ot, in the lotr trilogy, in forbidden planet, in jaws, in raiders... i could go on - the point is, if he felt he couldnt make this in 2d and be successful... then 3d will not help it - i stand by my original assessment, if he was sitting on cinematic gold he would have sold this idea into production years ago
-
....but whatever. The sets look like fucking plastic. Coming off some of the best set design in film history, this is the best they could do? Grey plastic looking square rooms? What the fuck? Foam rocks that look like they're straight off the Lost In Space tv show set? A completely fucked up alien design? How the fuck are you gonna fuck up the design of one of the best creature suits in film history? I know! Lets make it big and bulky for stuntmen to jump around in!!
Have you seen the Director's Cut with the opening with Newt's family in the car driving around? Uhhhh yeah. Thats not the work of a competent director. Thats the work of a talentless fuck that has no idea how the fuck to handle quiet, family moments and wants to hurry the fuck up and start blowing shit up. In all fairness it is a cut scene from the theatrical cut, because Cameron probably realized in the editing room the only thing people want to see are these Marine assholes blowing shit up. And speaking of the Marine assholes....come the fuck on. They are the most cliched corny ass group ever put together. You seriously find those one-liners entertaining? I want to kick Paxton in the fucking mouth after 30 seconds. Corny as shit. There is nothing memorable about a single character in Aliens except maybe the hammy corniness of Reiser and the "Hey little girl, I used to have a daughter....you look lonely, wanna be my daughter?! Oh here Michael Biehn come stand next to me, like we're all one big happy family!!" Great fucking writing. Give me a break. Its like Cameron is a fucking alien from another planet reading historical accounts of what human emotion used to be like and this is the best he could come up with. Stan Winston's work as always is aces. Like I said before, were it not for him-- this movie would have been fucked. Every iconic image everyone remembers is thanks to Stan Winston. Okay now True Lies = fucking sucks. Much like Aliens, it may have been entertaining back in the day but it is shit now. I'm glad your only defense is "It has some of the biggest scale action scenes in movie history!" Uhhhhh okay. Now according to the James Cameron/Michael Bay school of film, that automatically makes it good right? Cause there is a shit load of explosions and the hermaphrodite chick hangs out of a helicopter while a limo falls off a bridge? Okay. Fine. If that makes it an amazing film in your eyes, so be it. I'm glad some people are entertained by this dumb shit. -
...After a childhood accident, I only have about 50% vision in my right eye, so this(and any other 3D movie) has to stand on it's own merits (story, plot, script and acting) for me and not on the dazzling gimmicks of revolutionary new technology.I wonder if it will, or am I going to be disappointed like Leela in 'Futurama'? Time will tell, I guess...
-
For starters, the whole movie was treated as sort of a joke. Which is presumably why Tom Fucking Arnold was cast as a major character, why Bill Paxton's mostly pointless "I can't stop pissing my pants" subplot was included, and why the entire fucking movie was dumb as hell. Don't get me wrong, I actually LIKE True Lies. The thing is, I'm not ashamed to admit that I like it even though I think that it is shit. I think that the Abyss is sort of shit, and I hated it. I think that Terminator 2 was shit, and I hated it. I loved Aliens, but even there I can 100% understand the opinion that it was shit. And even with T1, I loved it, and don't think it was shit, but I still realize that it was basically a longer and more violent Twilight Zone episode. James Cameron is not a true artist. At least from a storyline perspective. He is a tech guy and an action guy first and foremost. And that is FINE. I actually LOVE some of his movies, even some of the ones that I admit are shit. But he lacks as a story teller, in my opinion. A lot of his stuff is way too derivative, and he often tends to go way too far into hyper-sentimentality that his stories just plain don't deserve. On that note, see Terminator 2 and The Abyss. Two movies in which he seemed to be TRYING to make some kind of grand statement with forced over-sentimentality. But he didn't make the story WORTHY of such sappiness, and as a result the movies ended up being as corny as an Ed Zwick film, if Ed Zwick also happened to have an affinity for Michael Bay type explosions. The result: it ends up looking like what would happen if Michael Bay and Edward Zwick collaborated on a movie. In my opinion, Cameron's BEST movies have been the ones that weren't intentionally over-sappy. The Terminator. Aliens. And ironically, True Lies, because I think that True Lies is probably his worst movie even though it mostly avoideed that kind of Ed Zwick style over-sentimentality.
-
and i find it funny when people start calling cameron's movies as dumb action movies. must make you feel SOOO smart saying that.
you can pick apart ANY genre movies and find something silly in it. it's what the genre dictates. but cameron always elevate the materials into something cool and smart. his movies are anything but dumb. -

and for the record, I like tons of dumb big shit....
by dannyglovers_dickblood
....but don't come at me claiming James Cameron can eat the crabs out of a competent director's pubic hair. He is a hack of epic proportions. His movies make tons of money. He is good at blowing shit up. And according to you bullet, he can hold a camera steady-- so I guess that means he has talent or some shit. Whatever. Call him what he is. A dumb action director that made a sappy period romance on a boat and got lucky.
-
i hear you - im legally blind in my left eye - so 3d shmee dee - i can still enjoy movies in 2d (even ones with lots of fx and shit) with my cyclopean vision
-
i agree with your points on aliens, but you have to admit, its still fun to watch - even if only to poke fun at - i was blown away by it in 86 - but back then i was starving for something like it
-
then maybe avatar "has a lot more going for it than its fx" as well. you won't know till you see it, right? so why badmouthing it now?
-
...I never said Aliens is not fun to watch. All these fucking cry babies just start screaming when you say its anything less than amazing. It is fun to watch if you're chugging whiskey and coke with friends and laughing at it a bit. And I actually enjoy The Abyss. Its sorta Cameron's Dances With Wolves in that its boring as fuck, but still a fine film.
-
Okay...so shitty filmmakers studied scenes from a shitty James Cameron movie in order to rip those scenes off for shitty movies. Fair enough. I accept that as truth, since you said it. But that STILL doesn't keep True Lies from being shit.
-
You nailed it with your reply to cloudrider. Total immersion is down to story, not technology. I really hope Cameron has some substance to this, 'cos flashy FX alone is no guarantee of quality. Wachowski boys - I is looking at you (with my one good eye, that is!)
-
i hope it does have a lot more going for it than its fx - and im as eager as you to find out - but the fact that it didnt get green lit until it got slapped with a 3d label is not a good sign
-
does not an article make.

"chugging whiskey and coke"?... this explains your name

His dumb movies are awesome when they are also COOL, and are not overly sappy (Aliens). His dumb movies however suck when they stop being badass (or "cool") and replace that with emotional tension which is pretentious and silly (The Abyss).
-
any hack given big budget can create the biggest action setpiece. the difference is how it'd look on the screen. cameron's setpieces, much like spielberg's, much like jackson's, are masterpieces. they're ddesigned with razor sharp precision. you can be a great storyteller and be a lousy action director(nolan), or be a lousy director storyteller and good with explosions(bay), but cameron is that rare breed that recognizes story structure and damn good at creating action. he should be treasured, not belittled. but i understand some of you have the need to feel BIG by making lite of great accomplishments.
-
one that required an attention span and had some good acting (ed harris rules) - and his fans dont like it... maybe his fans are the dummies
-
I think you have some valid points, its just your barometer is too high in my opinion. If you think those movies are stupid and shitty you must hate pretty much every action movie from the last 20 years, cause theyre mostly stupid and badly written as well. I mean, if thats your standard, what is left other than maybe die hard, lethal weapon, matrix?
-
Same shit, different day!Another talkback for a big movie full of (mostly) idiots who have already formed their opinion about the film 11 months PRIOR to release (in this case) and attempt to justify it by stating their opinion on other movies. The ultimate self-defeating argument.Seriously, when did the universally accepted laws of cause and effect change? Because I always thought that, in order to form an opinion about something, you had to... you know, EXPERIENCE IT. I like to form my opinions AFTER I've watched the movie/listened to the album/read the book etc. Evidently I now find myself in the minority...And as for what laugably passes as a "major story", sometimes I wonder why I even bother with this website. Someone wake me up when we actually get some real, genuine, actual NEWS!!!
-
Military guy meets natives, switches sides and goes abo
Yep, that's Dances With Wolves -
that gun is so 80s - what does it weigh?... 45 pounds?... not very futuristic or practical - is JC trying to excite the aliens fanboys or what?
-
How, exactly? Maybe I'm just too dumb to get it. Although I understood "The Fountain," so I can't be that dumb.
-
Cameron is not a hack. He does what he does VERY well. Whathe does is make big dumb movies, and he's VERY good at that. So good that apparently a LOT of people are convinced that his movies are masterpices. That's what he does. He makes big dumb movies that apparently trick a lot of people into thinking that he's the best thing since sex. He knows how to put together a Michael Bay style action sequence, and he knows how to manipulate the audience's emotions in order to get the desired effect. He's not a hack, he is VERY GOOD at what he does. I'm just saying that most of his movies (even the ones that I love) are at least arguably shitty. And again, there's nothing wrong with that. He does what he does, and at least some of what he does is stuff that he does well. But I don't consider him a true artist, none of his movies that I've seen come close to being masterpieces, and I think it's ufair to call him a hack. Sure he's not a true artist. But he makes big dumb movies, and I honestly think that he tends to make big dumb movies WELL. They're still just big dumb movies, but I honestly think that James Cameron has a SERIOUS talent for making those kinds of movies.
-
wait, what? avatar didn't get greenlit before it's slapped the 3D label? after titanic he can make it in 2D and still get greenlit! they're going to greenlit anything the man touches.
but if you mean BEFORE titanic, let me ask you this: do you trust studios who greenlit shits like the happening, and tons of sandlers movies and disaster movies, or the man who created some of the coolest movies ever made?
just because it's not greenlit, says more about the mentality of hollywood(new stuff is risky, sandler is funny) than it does cameron. -
I still loved it, but I'm noit trying to pretend that it was something that it wasn't. It was a big dumb action movie that succeeded at EXACTLY what it was trying to do. It's not a cinematic masterpiece, it's a fucking well made movie about shit blowing up and people getting shot.
-
There is a big difference between you thinking something is stupid and whether or not it actually IS stupid. Countless people have shit on something brilliant because they're too ignorant to see WHY it's brilliant. You're just one more of those people. Except you say it over. And over. And loud. And belligerent. And constant. An analogy that illustrates how incredibly good James Cameron is at what he does: THE TERMINATOR and TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY are both Sci-Fi classics. Both Action classics. Both possibly just classics period. TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES........... a completely forgettable movie made by a capable but non-visionary director. I really hope I have a full 12 months of you talking shit about AVATAR.........
-
cloudrider says: "then maybe avatar "has a lot more going for it than its fx" as well. you won't know till you see it, right? so why badmouthing it now? " That goes both ways--eyeball fucking? you won't know till you see it, right? so why praise it now?
-
doesn't make you sound smarter. what action movies pass as smart to you, i wonder.
-
You're as bad as D.G.D.B. DIE HARD is smart as hell. LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD is dumb. How can you not see the difference? An action movie can be smart without being SOLARIS or IKIRU.
-
green lit is just an expression - lets say it wasnt up to any studio - it was all up to JC - he waited to make this now because of the advent in tech - cgi and 3d presentaion - he had the script for a while - but he knew or felt its strengths were in its "sound and fury" - he couldve made this in 2000 - it wouldve rivaled lotr in terms of scale and fx - which wouldve been good enough provided there was a story/heart there at the center - but he waited - hell, he should kepp waiting until we can see it in a holo-deck and be in the fuckin movie - then it can fuck not just our eyes but our asses too - bull shit
-
the diffence is i have a basis for thinking it will be good. cameron's filmography is solid as a rock. he has never made a crappy film, so i doubt he's going to start now.
all the haters and pesimists have going is "it will suck because look at indy4 and prequels." or "no trailers, must be suck!" see the difference? :)
-
You don't understand movies. You are either intellectually incompetent or emotionally stunted. And you are probably ugly, and live alone.
-
i said The Abyss was JC's attempt at a smart scifi flick - i didnt say it WAS smart - but it is smarter (less reliant on explosions and mayhem) than his other stuff - it has long stretches of characters just talking (as opposed to being chased by a special effect or blown up) - i admired his attempt and i like the result
-
.. in any company that makes eyeball KY!
And I consider Cameron a "craftsman", which is no less than the artist label. It's just different. -

even within the action genre, there are smart ones and there are dumb shits. one9deuce is right. maybe it's the movie that's smart but you just can't see it, making you thinking it's dumb the real dumb. see? there's always that possibility.
-
i didnt have to go see "bride wars" in order to confirm its a piece of shit - based on what i know about Avatar i am not in "eye ball fucked" mode - 1. the title - 2. its in 3d - 3. the project has been around for years but couldnt or wouldnt get made, JC or no JC - 4. concept art of cat-like aliens with long tails and glowing stripes - 5. the picture of an "army guy" in camo holding a machine gun of cartoonish proportions
-
At least for starters, that's one reason why I can't see the difference. Having said that, with so many people saying that Die Hard 4 is shit, I don't even have any REASON to watch the damn movie. Furthermore, I never really had any desire to watch the damn movie in the first place. So I just plain never watched it. I hardly think that that can be held against me. And I hardly think that I need to watch AVP2 in order to know that Alien 3 was pretty shitty. Sure, AVP2 might be 1000 times worse than Alien 3. But even if that's the case, that doesn;t somehow make Alien3 any BETTER. And the same thing applies with Die Hard and ANY of its sequels. I simply do not have to watch Die Hard 4 in order to know that the original Die Hard was just a well made stupid action movie. Sure, Die Hard 4 might be WORSE, but that doesn't have ANY impact on the quality of the original Die Hard.
-
if you love "Aliens" you are probably "intellectually incompetent or emotionally stunted. And you are probably ugly, and live alone." - hey! - wadda ya know! - it fits both ways!
-
it can be "lawrence of arabia" in space... and still suck - so i guess its also "a man called horde" and "dances with wolves" in space too - maybe a little "13th warrior" in space as well... 3d wont make it better
-
oh so it's never not being greenlit. i must be sure now to discern what you said as fact or "just an expression". did aliens and abyss and T2 and true lies and titanic utilizes the best tech could offer at the time those movies were made? did their stories suffer as the result, or were they enhanced by it? be honest now.
so why should avatar be any different now? like i said, the man has never given us a reason to doubt. just wait till you see the movie before you badmouth it, will you? -
You are all virgin boys in need of a good fistfuck. James Cameron is king and Avatar will rule the earth. All your "James who ?" and "Meh" shit is just the reality of your brains being not much more functionning than the garbage can next door. Get a life, you morons.
-
we didnt have to wait 12 years between JC's other movies - and as far as their stories suffering or being enhanced by fx... they were enhanced - because without them they would be unwatchable - this is my point - his fx ARE his movies - take away his fx and there aint much else there, thats all that good anyway - take away the cutting edge cgi and 3d and whats left in avatar - "lawrence of arabia" minus the skill of david lean
-
im 43 and no virgin - ask your mom - she even tried to fist fuck me once
-
the trailer and posters were enough to keep me from seeing die hard 4
-
A V A T A R - Fucking your eyeballs in 2009!!!!Welcome back, Jim! Seriously, I can't wait to see a brand new, groundbreaking James Cameron sci-fi action flick!
-
are just petty and smallminded. "oh the gun looks too big." "oh it's in 3D." "oh it's just a tanning parlor." "oh the title is stupid." let's see them used in the context of the story, will you geeks?
-
What. The. Fuck? That is the most moronic uber-hippyish nonsense I've ever read.
-
his fx are his movies? really? you dont say. i thought it's just part of whole. but i see your point. take the shark oout jaws and oyu can still have the same story. or maybe lawrence of arabia should not be set in the desert. kubrick could 2001 in ohio, instead of space. yeah, nothing good about that movie anyway if we just take the space out of it.
-
Aliens is fucking good. But it isn't Alien which is a masterpiece. Titanic is a steaming load of wank from start to finish. That is all.
-
Totally underrated. It's just good. veebeeyes is a moron.
-
the shark in jaws looked fake yet the movie still worked very well - the actors and story made it work - the desert in "lawrence" was not an effect, it was the location (a real location) - 2001 had great fx even by todays standards, but its story and direction is what made it work (what story, i know) - but cameron is no kubrick - look man, JC is good at what he does - i like his movies, but theyre shallow escapist entertainment who's strengths are obviously in their fx - just my opinion - i can argue this with you all night
-
... "battle beyond the stars" - he even did the camera work for the composite passes - i respect his skills a lot - all of them

On another tpoic to anyone saying we make worse films now
by nomoredirtyjokespleaseweareyanks
than 30+ years ago I give you DANANANAAAAAA!!!! The Sentinel. The only thing I knew about this film was Corey Feldmans quick Synopsis in The Burbs'. It sounds great....An old guy lives in an apartment thats kinda like the gateway to Hell. Fuck, sign me up right? Oh, you need more, hows this? It stars Chris Sarandon, Ava Gardner, Christopher Walken, Tom Berenger, Jeff Goldblum, The Milf from National Lampoons Vacation as a teenage sexed-crazed demonic lesbian and Burgess Meredith as Satan. Your thinkin, well Fuck me again, sounds fantastic right????? No. It's one ofthe worst pieces of shit I have ever witnessed. The only detail I will reveal as it is now forever burned into my retinas and comes for me at night in my very worst dreams is this....Beverly D'Angelo masterbating feverishly in a leotard is now officially the scariest thing I have ever seen. Peace Out.
-
you can't take away any one part, be it the fx, actors, plot, location, etc, from the movie and expect it to be just as solid. it's the parts that make the whole. without the shark in jaws there's no movie. same theory applies to all other movies. cameron is no kubrick? yeah well, spielberg is no kubrick either. and kubrick is no truffaut, and scorsese is not kurosawa. so what does that mean? an artist is an artist, and none are the same. hacks look alike, artist is distinct.

In with this meaningless Alien/Aliens debate
by nomoredirtyjokespleaseweareyanks
You know it's wierd, I acknowledge that Alien is superior filmmaking. It is technically perfect with great performances and it's originality is breathtaking. I kinda dig Camerons sequel. It's fun but nowhere near the art of the first, although the image of Ripley in the power-loader is powerful stuff and the last twenty minutes is near flawless rollercoaster action. All that said, for some wierd ass reason It's Alien3 I watch the most. It's got a whole lotta problems but fuck me if it isn't one of the most beautiful looking films ever.

"that movie blows cock."
Yes, just a few of the opinions DICKBLOOD has of Aliens. Another favorite is "Aliens is the worst of the series". This is also the guy who has said:
1) You've Got Mail is a great movie.
2) Family Man is a great movie.
3) Phantom Menace is better than A New Hope.
4) Big Trouble in Little China is "the only good movie" John Carpenter ever made.
Whether Avatar ends up being any good or not will make no difference to DICKBLOOD. If DICKBLOOD had been anything other than a drunk and a troll I'd have hoped Avatar would be great simply to watch him slink away like moviemack did after Batman Begins opened. However, since he's only interested in the sound of his own voice (and the taste of his own semen, apparently) he'll keep on braying about something else just to stir shit up. -

Cameron is King! (and he isn't even paying me to say so!)
by turdontherun
Rather predictably, the usual cadre of morons flock to the talkbacks (including the odious Mr. Dickblood, who really should have been drowned at birth). There's not a single Cameron movie that's not at least very good (well apart from that one about the flying piranhas, which he was fired from after a week). That's a pedigree which by itself points to Avatar likely being exceptional. The hype for this is hardly unfounded. No other big-budget genre director (save maybe late 70's, early 80's Spielberg), has come close to Cameron's consistency-sure there's been sporadic films like Dark Knight, LOTR, and the first Matrix, but none of them rival Aliens, T1 and 2, and even The Abyss. As par for the course here, we have people bashing sacred cows like Aliens and T2, but it doesn't mean a damn fucking thing in the real world. Cameron's currency was NEVER FX-his stories and characters have always resonated, long after the effects have dated. I could watch Aliens right now, for the 1000th time, and it would still be a more entertaining experience than nearly any other big movie of the last decade.Cameron is arguably the best at combining top notch effects with absorbing storytelling-the plethora of flashy, uninvolving blockbusters since his last outing, even by some decent directors, throws that into sharp relief.

I'm not one of those who believes that cinema begins and ends with James Cameron (do those people actually exist?) But of the films coming out this year, this is by far the most interesting.
Of the top blockbuster directors out there, Cameron has always invested in story and characters.
My expectations are high because most of his films have been excellent. Some scenes may have been sentimental, some may have been crass, infantile or just plain stupid, but none have been boring. Cameron knows how to put on show that people have never seen before.
Detractors of Avatar are ignoring most of Cameron's work and bashing Avatar saying that they don't know anything about it and that so far there's nothing to suggest that it will be any good, so why should they care?
Then they have the gall to criticise people for looking forward to this, when they know absolutely nothing about it!
Well there are two things we do know: It's James Cameron and it's sci-fi. What more do you need to know?
-
Hanks and Co. should've kept going after Normandy...maybe the platoon commandeers a Nazi half-track, and plows on to Paris, killing German snipers and French traitors all along the way, then having an epic street battle that ends on the Eiffel Tower, fighting some female Japanese Ninjas the Germans flew in especially to fight them. In the end, they're rescued by Private Ryan, who in fact is...CAPTAIN AMERICA!
Fuck yeah. Better movie, you bet. -
That shit was the only thing to scare me and it has fucked me up for life.....or at least today.

Will this Avatar be suitable for little Frank Jnr?
by franklin t marmoset
I can't claim to know much about this James Cameroon fellow Mr D***blood is so angry about, but - speaking as a concerned parent - I'd be grateful if anyone could let me know whether this film will be appropriate for children.I assume it's based on the cartoon, AVATAR THE HAIR BENDER, which my son enjoys so much.Has this James Cameroon made other films Frank Jnr would like? He especially likes robots.
-
Instant greatness.
-
Tough as space nails.
-
The plot, as I've read, is of a Space Marine vet who has a change of heart and sides with some alien locals to save their ecosystem from human invaders...aside from the blatant similarity to SOLDIER, do audiences really dig being lectured?
I'm a total lefty, but even I have to acknowledge that the whole "save the planet" thing is getting kinda old... -

I'm still not too sure how this Ain't It Cool News works. Should I, as a concerned parent, be more angry about this Avatar? by nomoredirtyjokespleaseweareyanks
Alien3 RULES WHOOOOOOOH!!!!
-
If you want to fit in here, you must hate Brett Ratner and view Fox as the devil.
-
Cameron made some good movies (Aliens), but some pretty mediocre movies too (I know its blasphemy, but I think T2 is a bore ...). I hope this is great, but I will hold my judgement till after I've seen the movie, just like with every other movie that will come out this year ...
-
None of the action flows or feels organic in T2. It feels very stiff and forced the whole way through. Thats what I'm talking about. It feels to me like it was hammered out very quickly with a TON of money backing it up and more than a little bit of cocaine. The sad thing being that ALIENS was astoundingly well edited and paced. The action feels real, organic, and visceral, and it was made on a fraction of the budget that T2: WHY DO WOO CWY? was. I was not excited or enthused by any of the blocky, stiff, sluggish, but REALLY LOUD, blue filtered explosions in James "Michael Bay" Cameron's magnum dope-us, T2: WE WUB WOO ROBODADDY / OLD ROBOYELLER.
-
They're always coming around the house at night, rummaging through the bins, making a mess of little Frank Jnr's sandbox.Disgusting!I don't know this Brett Ratner person. Did he make this 'Alien' film everyone seems to like so much?

the robodaddy stuff is a bit hokey, sure, but you're dead wrong on the action- it's top drawer stuff.

...but T1 is far superior. Sure, it's cheaper looking, but it has a harder edge and more nerve than T2 which looks a bit too slick. Like Jarv says, the action is great, but the overall feel of the film when it's at its worst is akin to seeing a greased-up body builder -- sure, it's well-honed for what it is, but musclebound, awkward and a bit freakish in all its spectacle.
-
...there's no fucking way that you are a human being. Instead, you must be a blockheaded monkey (which would explain your love for "Chimp-The Movie" aka "Speed Racer") that somehow managed to grab a keyboard connected to the AICN tb's.Comparing James Cameron to Michael Bay clearly shows that you have no fucking clue about filmmaking, especially when it comes down to shooting and editing action sequences. So please, shut the fuck up. Thanks.
-
Aint it cool, is it getting desperate for news.

So besides Watchmen, what is everyone looking forward to in 2009
by miyamoto_musashi
-
It always seemed like a very good example of action cinema to me, but if we're supposed to find the film's tiniest faults and then blow them up until they obscure all the good things it has to offer, I suppose I can go along with that.Like I said, I want to fit in here. I'm not sure about the guy who was complaining about the editing, though. I think that guy might be nuts or something. I don't want to fit in with that guy.
-
His only enduring performance is Kindergarten Cop.
-
...this better be worth the wait.
i mean, talk about genius marketing: running a tight-lipped machine for like 5 years on a movie and letting useless little images show up towards the end of production. there's still no trailer for fuck's sake!!!
i'm tired of this blow job. it's time for some fucking penetration... -
"James Cameron has had critical and financial success, likes geeky things like anime and comic books, but yet people on here still thinks he's an overrated hack? This is why the studios don't take our opinions seriously because of stupid shit like that"------------
All of what you said can be applied to Kevin Smith. Does this make Kevin Smith an amazing director? -
I take you didn't read Cameron's two exceptionally 'off-putting' scriptments for Spider-Man?
-
You are correct, except for the "critical and financial success".
-
there's a BUNCH of Terminator news over at Latino Review, but then again, they're a better site that this seeping shithole..
-
Alright. Action and special effects aside, this movie is completely over-rated. The "bart simpson" dialogue is atrocious ("Hasta la vista baby? wtf?), and the cheesy ending was over the top. If I was the terminator, I would have dropped John Conner's obnoxious ass off of a cliff. The movie DID have some of the best action, and even emotional scenes I've seen Cameron direct. And I don't mean the "bonding with the robot" bullshit. When Sarah Conners finally escapes from her cell, and turns a corner to see her worst nightmare right in front of her, well, that was pretty classic. Fight scenes were great, but at the same time, let's not make this movie out to be more than it was; a wildly succesful pop-corn action flick. Oh, and the Abyss was a great flick, a lot of people just didn't like it because it was a "message" movie. If they released the director's cut in theatres, it would've done better at the BO.

Who the fuck cares about Terminator 4, nooneimportant?
by motoko kusanagi
Just read your alias aloud.
-
Actually, Kevin Smith made a shitload and got lots of critical success for Clerks. Everything else
he's done so far has been a bunch of phoned in dick & fart jokes. (Chasing Amy was decent though..) -
Clerks made a huge profit because it cost nothing to make. Smith has hit a glass ceiling at $30 million in the cinema. His films don't make a gigantic profit.
-
I know. I said nothing to the contrary. I meant (and said) that Clerks was the movie he made lots of cash on. Everything else was utter shite.
-
You mean the "actor" from the fourth DIE HARD movie?Speaking of which, I can't think of a GOOD third sequel to any movie:The fourth STAR WARS movie was PHANTOM MENACE. (yikes!)The fourth ALIEN movie was AVP.We also had POLICE ACADEMY 4, SAW IV, JAWS REVENGE, THE NEXT KARATE KID, etc. etc.Doesn't look too good for TERMINATOR 4...RAMBO 4 on the other hand fucking rocked.
-
Thunderball?
-
That's not an endorsement. Just sayin'.
-
You were perfectly right, droid.
-
thanks
-
Of which, a good or bad 4th movie lol?
It's the only good one I can think of. -
^__^
-
So how can you say it was bad or that you hated it or that only a "blockheaded monkey" could like it? When you actually get around to seeing it (after taking James "Michael Bay" Cameron's cock out of your mouth), you may find that you like it, maybe even LOVE it. I mean, hell, your borderline schizophrenic obsession with T2: WHY DO WOO CWY means you can't have a very high bar with which to judge movies. SPEED RACER is flawed, sure, but it looks like a fuckin' Kubrick movie next to T2: THE FIRST MICHAEL BAY MOVIE.
-
I'm sure someone will say Rocky IV sucked, but no... it didn't. It had Ivan.

List Of Movies With Better Action Scenes Than T2: MEDIOCRITY UBE
by laserpants
Children of Men, French Connection, Mad Max 1, 2, and 3, Seven Samurai, Blade Runner, Kill Bill, Versus, Drunken Master series, every Bruce Lee movie, every Run Run Shaw movie, and thats just off the top of my head. T2 is, hands down, the most vastly overrated film of all times. It makes Plan 9 From Outer Space look like 2001.
-
FINALLY people are waking up and admitting to themselves how awful it is. I hated it when it first came out, still think it sucks. Of course, if you saw it when you were 5 and it was the first movie you ever saw, I can totally understand why you would like it.
-
FINALLY people are waking up and admitting to themselves how awful it is. I hated it when it first came out, still think it sucks. Of course, if you saw it when you were 5 and it was the first movie you ever saw, I can totally understand why you would like it.
-
I've seen it so I can comment.
-
Search your underwater documentary fetish, you know it to be true.
-
puhlease.
-
Leprechaun in Space. Do not debate me on this.
-
Mmm. Nope.
-
I loved it, but I understand why people hate it. It is a flawed, though visually stunning, pop-art explosion nostalgia piece. If you didn't like the show, or didn't grow up with it, than the movie has nothing for you. Plus, its way too long. Shoulda been 90 minutes tops.
Note the sane reaction here. I accept you don't like it. Why does my hatred of T2: OVERRATED cause people to devolve into near epileptic convulsions of rage? I have a theory. Its related to morbid obesity, eternal virginity, living in mothers basement, not knowing very much about film, and having very little experience with anything happening in the real world away from the glowing screen. -
New Wave Hookers 4. Juli Ashton was teh hotness 15 years ago.
-
but it isn't as bad as you say. You're hatred of the robodaddy sequences are blinding you to the things that are good about it.
-
To state otherwise reveals what one may refer to as acute mental retardation.
-
He's not nuts at all. He's funny.Keep up the good work, LaserPants.
-
...had one outstanding action sequence, and I don't mean the urban battle scene. What I'm referring to is the ambush on the road, which was terrifically set up and shot.
-
Is that the deal here? 'Cause Rickey wears glasses and has always been pissed off when he needs to put 3-D glasses on top of them.
-
Please don't say "pop art explosion" ever again. It's more annoying than NoDiggity's new -- and frequent -- use of the word "callback".
-
Leprechaun 4 is so great it even has the power to overcome the 'all part 4s are shit' rule.Good work, Leprechaun 4.
-
FTW!

I was going by your insinuation that he can do no wrong
by mr. zeddemore
He has done wrong. A fair bit. I'll rank Aliens, T1 and T2 as excellent flicks - but he's hardly infallible. And I'd like to see a little more balance when it comes to Avatar - especially as the 'scriptment' that he did years ago has probably been revised so much that it can't be used to judge what this film will be.
-
christ, and you call T2 overrated? Children of Men had one action sequence that's up with T2 the other action sequences are nowhere near. Outside of action, it is better than the hokeyness of T2
-
Are both AMAZING. It feels like its really happening, is scary as all hell, and pulls you right in. I'm still stunned by its brilliance.
-
...in the context of all the other Friday the 13th films, part 4 is quite good, although not as good as Jason X, which proves the rule that ALL sequels taking place in space are better than part 4s -- except Lep 4 which is both, and Hellraiser 4 which is also both, but sucks farts from the assholes of dead antilopes.
-
step up Ms VAlerious with "Somersverse". Every time she says that, God shoots a puppy.
-
I love T2, but if people hate it... great. It's not going to change my mind, but I'm not trying to change your mind and force you to accept it as your saving grace.
-
They add a layer of surreal absurdity to the filmgoing experience, I reckon. There's nothing quite like that moment of suddenly pulling away from a film, looking around at everybody in the cinema, and realising you are all joined in wearing these silly gizmos on your faces. That is a gleaming the cube moment right there. Gleaming the goofyness cube.
-
set it in space, or if originally in space, set it on Earth,INdy 4 included Aliens, which was a step in the right direction, but still kept it on earth. Ergo, fail.
-
It seemed awesome at the time but it isn't a patch on the ass of Alien. I watched them back to back last summer and the difference couldn't be more obvious. Alien is, as far as a popcorn movie goes, fine dining. Aliens is junk food, straight up. And that's okay, but like I say, it's just not of the same quality. Also, as someone pointed out, it's a corny LOOKING movie - it looks like Beverly Hills Cop II. Just very 80s in the worst way.
-
Don't take Franklin Jr. to see this film, it'll rape his eyes.
-
popping viagra and molesting your cerebellum. Unlike Speed Racer which was like being skull fucked by a giant bag of skittles.
-
You're joking, right. You must be. CHILDREN OF MEN's action sequences are actually exciting and terrifying. T2 just looks like a 8 year old yelling at you; bombastic, shrill, and irritating. Its TERRIBLE. Looks stiff, fake, and forced. It also cost MILLIONS more than CHILDREN OF MEN and yet, CHILDREN OF MEN manages to look thousands of times better by comparison. Plus, most importantly, it features a seriously brilliant and terrifying story, not some hokey jackass father-complex bullshit for angst ridden teenagers.
-
Like being waterboarded with a multi-coloured, syrupy goop of some sort.I think I still have some of it up my nostrils.
-
You know it, I know it. Nobody outside of AICN is interested in James "Michael Bay" Cameron's TRON / MATRIX retread.
-
Ear rape, maybe, but I think eye rape is best left until he's at least 9.
-
The car scene that DocP mentioned is great. My point stands, you are blinded by your hatred of robodaddy.Anyway, you think hostel is highly intelligent satire, and not moronic LCD torture porn dreck.
-
I don't know why everyone (especially Harry) is making such a big deal out of the movie. It looks like another Alien, Species, etc.. rehash. While we are at it lets all get uber-excited about a TANNING BED!!!
-
My friend Ed was telling me the other day that he was very interested in James "Michael Bay" Cameron's TRON / MATRIX retread, and he would never go near the Ain't It Cool. It's weird, because your exact wording, as though he had cut and pasted your post FROM THE FUTURE into his head. You are, therefore, wrong.QED and whatnot.
-
What a card you are. I'm sure there's a few people out there who are interested in what the director of the most successful film of all time is making. And saying Speed Racer looks like a Kubrick movie next to T2 is, even with your ludicrous track record, one of the most hilarious things I have ever read. Anywhere. Ever.
-
Who the hell wants to see a film in a genre we like, written and directed by a man who has written and directed other films we like? What are we, idiots?
-
As much fun as being beaten to death with a sack full of glitter by an insane clown while techno plays in the background. And you know he's going to rape your still warm corpse.
-
...The TV SERIES!
-
Comparing Cameron to Bay is ridiculous. Cameron clearly learned about crossing the line before he started making movies. Unlike the Bayhem.
-
When did I ever say that Hostel was intelligent satire? I said I liked it, that its smarter than its given credit for, and that the social commentary -- about American entitlement meeting its comeuppance -- is well done. You know, for an exploitation film. Again, as I said before, I challenge you to find the post where I praised it as a work of a highly intelligent satire. Go ahead. Come back when you're done with your fruitless search.
-

-

-
Star Ratings from 1 - 5.
Terminator = 5; Aliens = 5; T2 = 4; Titanic = 4; True Lies = 3; Abyss = 5
Aliens and Terminator are 2 of my all time favorite movies. -
...and as such does equal your movie knowledge.
The action sequence in Mad Max 3 (there's only one that can be named as such) is horrible, especially when compared to 1 and 2.Kill Bill fucking sucked from start to finish and had absolutely NO comparable action sequence.Blade Runner is a brilliant movie - but has next to none big fights and chases whatsoever.Seven Samurai = brilliant movie, but no comparable action sequence. You wildly mix modern day action cinema with martial arts cinema and other stuff that can't be compared, you fucking monkey. Now, please, shut the hell up and return to your basement, you blockheaded, 8-year-old monkey. Thanks. -
One of the reasons I love it despite the irrational hatred for which is, admittedly, a flawed movie.
-
If T2 is so bad, why did your beloved T3 copy it note for note? And copy it badly? Arnie's entrance in T3 with the gay Elton John glasses (copied from Arnie's bar entrance in T2). The big vehicular chase 30 minutes into the movie (copied from the canal chase sequence in T2). The escape from the morgue (the escape from Pescadero). They even dragged in Earl Boen to reprise his part, though this time as a send-up. T3 is shitty. I can't take your arguments seriously if you think Mostow's film surpassed Cameron's.
-
Pwned.
-
Pwned. You never saw the film did you Motoko?
-
I was wondering why the Pants had listed Blade Runner as an action film.
-
I said I liked it and its better than T2. At least its funny. Plus, the action set-pieces are VASTLY superior.
-
Like having your brain surgically removed, scribbled on in crayon by special needs children, then shoved back into your head through your nose.
-
How does a 2 minute chase sequence make Blade Runner an action movie? Me = confused...
-
and certainly not comparable to T2. Anyway, back to hostel- I swear you must have seen a different film to me, because I saw a moronic piece of LCD torture porn dreck and you saw something with well done social commentary. You're imagining things. SPeed Racer: as much fun as being force fed candle wax until you vomit in technicolour.
-
Unintentionally.
-
Of course I know the skinjob chase and the fights in Seven Samurai. I said that those cannot be compared to modern day vehicular chase sequences.
-
I think the only time we need to start worrying about Cameron is if he hires Kurtzman and Orci to write his movies.
-
Like watching the Wachowskis continue to prove they have no ability to dramatise their ideas and much prefer long, tedious monologues and excessive CGI.That one may be a little on the nose.
-
but they are not sleeping in the wet spot.
-
Geek rage.
-
like watching a colour blind chimp scrawl on a toilet wall.
-
know what they're talking about. Cameron has always emphasised character amidst his mayhem. The result? His films still stand up years later. Comparing Cameron to McBay or the Wachowski sisters is mad. Has anyone cared about one character from their films? Did anyone even Blink when Trinity was killed in Revolutions? Now compare that to Ed Harris pounding the shit out of Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in The Abyss. Case closed.
-
Cool Abyss pseudopod gag.
-
Cool Abyss pseudopod gag.
-
... were True Lies and Titanic. The latter is a near-total drag and the former is an ugly mess. Yeah, it has its moments of spectacle, but if I found it on TV, I'd only watch it to watch Tom Arnold's bizarre, coked-up (seeming?) performance, which - by the way - sticks out like a sore thumb in the film.Anyway my point is, those two movies then 50 years off or whatever don't bode well.
-
Go on, all you moaning about how dumb his movies are, name me one fuckin intelligent action movie?
Aliens may look cliched now, but at the time there was hardly no other movies like it
Seriously DG_DB I'm starting to think Seth Rogen may have been right, are you sure your not some little 13 year old asian geek, you defend Bad Boys 2 and shit on Aliens?
The only excuse for that is you are under 15 or Cameron actually came to your home and IRON JIMMED all your family right up the ass, much like he did with Laser when T2 was released. -
Like having a morbidly obese man splash various colours of paint all over his colossal ass and then sit on your face for two hours.

were both very good movies, a lot of fun, and great eye-sex when they came out. That said, both the original Terminator and Alien are better films. It doesn't even matter to me that Arnold's self-surgery in T looked a little fake, or that you could tell the Alien in the first movie was just a dude in a costume. That stuff doesn't matter to me, because I'm always willing to let my imagination make the extra leap for me. The stories and movies and drama were simply better in the originals. Gotta give props to Robert Patrick though, for his predatory-bird spin on T-1000

-
The amount of time you take to analyze my posts is sort of disturbing. And I stand by the fact that the name JAMES CAMERON means jack shit to most people. Ask family or friends who are casual film viewers, who James Cameron is and they'll give you a blank stare. That's what I'm talking about. I'm not arguing his place in history. Obviously he will be remembered for a long time on account of his technical achievements. I was specifically referring to marketing his name.
-
the name of the director of the most successful film of all time you're either a) ignorant, b) stupid or c) both.
-
Avatar is a combo of live action and mo-cap. It's not like Beowulf and Polar Express.
-
The name of most directors means jack shit to your average filmgoer. If a film has a good trailer, an actor they've heard of in it, and it says 'From The Producer Of (insert name of Some Other Film You May Have Liked here)!!!' on the poster, people will go to see it.I agree about Ace Of Wands, though. That guy definitely has a thing for you.
-
I wasn't around here for Batman Begins. I've barely been here for about a year. You must be speaking of when I was saying TDK wouldn't make nearly as much as everyone thought. Thats true. I did say that. I thought the tone was far too dark for most Summer family audiences. Okay. I was wrong. What the fuck is your point?
And you're still throwing around You've Got Mail, Big Trouble In Little China, and Phantom Menace? Pathetic. As if I get a fuck. What, you think this is ruining my credibility? What credibility? I'm a random cunt like the rest of you that wastes my whole fucking day on an internet movie forum talking shit. I can give a fuck what you or anyone else here thinks of me or my opinions. I said You've Got Mail is one of my favorite romantic comedies. And it is. Its quirky, cute, funny, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan make a great team-- who fucking cares? I'm not part of that DocP "I have to convince people what a man I am by jerking off to James Cameron movies" crew. I normally don't like shit where the machismo is shoved down my throat. I have a dick, it functions just fine. Movies with lots of explosions doesn't make it any bigger and I accept that.
And TPM over ANH. Yup. I enjoy it more. The Pod Race and the Maul fight are fucking epic. But my #1 SW film will always be Empire. BTILC is Carpenter's ONLY truly great film. Though I haven't seen The Thing, and that does look pretty good. But I've seen almost everything else he has done. I'm not saying I don't enjoy the others. I enjoy the hell out of Escape From New York, but I can admit its pretty much shit. There ya go.....a little clarification on my thoughts. Be sure to include those details the next time you quote me. I'm sure you'll keep doing this for the next 5 years. Even after I'm long gone, you will be one of the few douche bags that will name drop me on a regular basis in between swallowing mouthfuls of MNG's semen.
Thanks for the support. Fucking loser. -
Mogwai!
-
If people don't know James Cameron's name they are ignorant? You mean losers on here or people in the real world? Why the fuck should most people give a fuck who directed the most successful film of all time? I don't get it. Thats like saying "If you don't know the Publishing company with the most book-sales in 2008, you're fucking ignorant." Who fucking cares?
-
How do you figure?
-
AVATAR is going to be a mo-cap movie?? Oh, no. (Puts palm to face) James Cameron has caught Zemeckis-itis. I am now underwhelmed. Images of Polar Express and Beowulf float before my eyes.
-
Halloween is truly great, The Thing is Truly Great. EFNY is truly great. Nowadys, though Carpenter is fat and lazy.
-
WTF was with that droid nurse? Oobaa! Oobaa!
-
It's a near perfect film. Nothing wrong with it at all. Plus, it has Kurt Russell AND Keith David in it. At the same time!Seriously, watch it right away, mate.
-
Do yourself a favor: see "The Thing" post-haste. It's Carpenter's best flick by a landslide.
-
Yeah...I have it on my queue. It does look good. Once I found out The Brim was in it, I was sold.
-
And I'm trying to figure out a link between Big Trouble and The Fog. Help?
-
Why has no one mentioned the most obvious, glaring flaw in T2?... the fact that it is totally redundant in the overall Skynet/John Connor story?Let's face it, even with what we know NOW about this story (and we still don't know the ending i.e. who eventually wins), there were only three major plot points that needed exploring:1. Judgement Day2. The war against the machines3. The ultimate victory for either Skynet or ConnorT3 may not be a perfect film in anyone's imagination (far too jokey, for one thing), but at least it showed the events leading up to (and including) Judgement Day itself, meaning there was some genuine meat to the plot. T2, on the other hand, had Judgement Day in the title, yet the plot of the film was entirely a retread of the first film (Terminator comes back in time to stop John Connor becoming leader of the resistance in the future, fails), plus it gave us the most idiotic paradox I've ever encountered in any story involving time travel (Skynet in the future creates itself in the past via the robots it sends back in time that could not exist in the future if Skynet had not been built in the past) and, more importantly, DID NOT SHOW THE PIVOTAL EVENT INCLUDED IN ITS TITLE!!That being said, I still think T2 is a kick-ass action movie, featuring the best mix of real stunts and cutting-edge (at the time) special effects ever seen on film. It's just unfortunate that, once the entire Skynet/John Connor story has unfolded, the events in T2 will be totally superfluous. Then again, you can also say the same for the first half of T3 and the entire SCC...
-
He is not fat. He is just high all the time. Please see Ghosts of Mars as an example.
-
I agree that he didn't seem very intimidating in TDK with his "Not my diagnosis!" line or whatever it was.
-
Big Trouble and The Fog are thematically miles apart.
-
bought on by too much weed, X-Box and fried chicken. Fat bastard.
-
That part of TDK sucked. He was driven insane at the end of BB, but in TDK he's a perfectly composed drug-dealer? Twaddle.
-
I wonder what that would have been like if Carpenter had got his way with casting- originally it was meant to be statham instead of ice-cube.
-
Smoke machines
-
...you mean the roles were meant to be reversed? That movie is shit no matter who is in it. Remember all the pointless slomo? And that Carpenter original score? Fuck me!! Why would you use Blues riffs on Mars?!!
-
Let's face it, if you're John Carpenter, what else do you have to prove? If I was raking in that sweet, sweet remake money like he is, I would probably loaf about my house and do weed, X-Box and fried chicken all day, too.
-
Have any of you been on that ride?
Do not doubt the 3D angle! -
I second Rickey. You need to watch The Thing right the fuck now. I can forgive you your take on TPM vs. ANH as I really don't give a shit about anything Star Wars, but The Thing is something no one should get wrong.
-
I was referring to moviemack vis-a-vis Batman Begins, not you, asshat.
You didn't say BTILC is Carpenter's only GREAT film, you said it was his only GOOD film. Nice try.
Oh, I will continue to quote you whenever you rear your pointy, feces-encrusted dome and proceed to dilate that sphincterine maw of yours, spewing your usual unending torrents of inanities and attention-whoring bleats.
No amount of "grow up" or "get a life" posts will discourage me from doing so. Welcome to the rest of your stay on AICN, chief. -

They Live is the shit. fool.
-
Shit creeped me out as a kid. I hate demons in alleys and Satan in a jar.
-
They Live belongs in the first part of that sentence, not the second!
-
I don't hate They Live (in fact, I think its premise is brilliant and relevant) or Ghosts of Mars. They are just campy, and look like they were shot with a Handycam. Whereas The Thing and Halloween are cinematic.
-
But it's worth saying twice.
-
I have to say, I laugh to myself every time I think of Snake Plissken surfing a tidle wave and Buscemi's eyes bugging out like he was in Total Recall when he sees him. Escape from LA is stupidly awesome IMO.
-
Say what you will about my negativity, hatred, attention whoring, whatever.........but to obsess over another talk-backer the way DocP does me?! Uhhhhh. There is something seriously lacking in your life man. Get over it. Join a group. AICN is still AICN without me. You don't need to bring me up every single fucking time you post. And you seriously don't need to keep a copy of my quotes on your desktop. You obviously have it saved because you pull up direct quotes within seconds. That is just really creepy. I'm serious.
-
They Live is vintage looking Carpenter. Don't make me spank you.
-
Ridley Scott should do a ALIEN preqel. perhaps involving the Space Jockey.
-
Do you have a problem with Big Trouble in Little China too? Damn BSB....
-
My friends and I rented that one (Prince of Darkness) in high school and watched it in the dark of my old girlfriend's basement. Very creepy. Especially those staticy-foreboding dream sequences with the bum outside the church (Alice Cooper!)
-
I think that and The Fog are the only Carpenter movies I've not seen. Well, I did see the Fog but don't remember a damned thing about it ...
-
Thats like saying you've never seen the news. FAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWK!!
-
you cold hearted bastards
-
You've not seen Big Trouble In Little Chi...Shit, I fell off my chair again.
-
Turn in your geek card. Immediatly.
-
Don't wanna be ostracized over BTILC ... jeez.

The big thing about Avatar is that it is being shot with Cameron's Fusion Camera, which incorporates 3D technology. Add that to Jimbo's legendary status for telling and filming great sci-fi action stories, and well your eyes should get ready to bend over, optically speaking
-
disparage BTILC here, or even worse admit you haven't seen it and there's a reflex driven backlash.
-
Damn boyo, I caint beeleve you aint seeint BTILC!
-
hehehehe. I kill me.
-
Hurry man! Hurry!

I would throw the baby bottle directly at Frank Jnr's head, and if he didn't catch it that's his own damn fault!

BTILC better be THAT good.

Those Welsh lesbian Hulk midgets are clammy-handed bitches - not to be messed with under any circumstances.I prefer my hulks to be French these days.
-
Can not help but like it.
-
of course you do. Your education will never be complete until you have seen it.
-
Oui! Oui!
-
Aren't you also the guy who liked Black Knight but thinks Mel Brooks' High Anxiety is "the worst fucking movie ever made"?
-
Yeah, I laughed once at Black Knight. I didn't laugh at all during High Anxiety. So I'd concur with Dan on that one.
-
It's even better.
-
Okay ... it's queued.
-
Is, as stated above, stupidly awesome. They should've made Escape From Earth.
-
blows. Hard. Sorry guys. They need to make Escape from Earth to wipe that piece of shit from my mind.
-
High Anxiety is fucking terrible. And I just said that a few days back. So I'm glad to see you are still lurking in the shadows of the Twitch TB reading every word I type. Fucking loser.
-
but I don't have the need to drown cute animals after seeing it. Like I do after Black Knight.
-
And yes, Escape from Earth needs to be made.
-
...most of the funny moments are thanks to Tom Wilkinson. I saw it late at night and I was shocked he was in it hamming it up. And his name is Nolte! I always found that oddly funny. I dunno why.

Everyone go watch BTILC, The Thing, and They Live and come back
by finky089
And for those of us who have seen them all many times, just enjoy the ride of watching them all again. And when you're done, come back here to chew some gum and kick som eass. And it's okay if you're all outta gum. Plus, we don't want to have to administer any flaming leg kicks, do we?
-
someone needs to be punished for it.
-
and realize that what it coulda/shoulda been. BTILC is still my fav Carpenter film. Kurt Russel, Victor Wong, and what's his name that plays Egg Shen make it too hard not to love. Viva la Porkchop Express!
-
YOU ARE THE KING ! JAMES CAMERON FUCK YOU ALL AND YOUR MOTHERS WITH HIS SINGLE LITTLE FINGER WHICH IS BIGGER THAN A MAGNUM CHAMPAGNE BOTTLE. When he takes a shit on the bronze trone, there is more art hitting the lower bowels of the toilets than everything the dissers will ever create in their whole life. AVATAAAARRRR
-
Carpenter is one schizo cat indeed. How can the same guy give us The Thing and then Starman? Give us the Prince of Darkness and then Memoirs of an Invisible Man?And as much as I think The Thing is a perfect sci-fi horror movie only slightly bested by Alien, for me Carpenter's best work will always be Starman. Who isn't turned into a blubbering child when Bridges walks to his ship as that amazing score soars?
-
I'm not sure I've ever actually watched a whole one. But I know it sure as hell won't be Black Knight when/if I do. Man, what films HAS he done besides Bluestreak, Black Knight, and that basketabll one from a few years ago??
-
meuah hahahaha ! wiping tears
-
No shit? That's one I haven't seen in years and obviously haven't felt the need to rent since it was in theaters. I'm almost curious enough to indulge in a refresher viewing.
-
wonderful. Everyone always forgets it.
-
Am I to late for my own Speed Racer post? Dammit...
-
There's always room for another. Speed racer is like discovering Willy Wonka is real, but a paedophile.
-
The Thing, Escape (don't even think to ask me which one), Big Trouble, Starman, The Abyss, T1, Assault on Precinct 13, and Aliens. Order changes conastantly.
-

I revisited Memoirs last month. People always wank on about T2 and Jurassic Park but they forget Memoirs came out sandwiched between both and those effects were mind blowing at the time and some of them still look nifty. That's the last time Chevy Chase was good in anything. It hasn't aged as well as some of Carpenter's other stuff but it's still an entertaining ride.
-
Is like having your eyes replaced by those huge old school christmas light bulbs, while being sodomized by Puff the Magic Dragon and Barney the Dinosaur on Crystal Meth
...................................
And sorry for the double post. -
And I can say that here because obviously there is nothing to talk about with that useless Avatar set pic.
Can someone buy Cameron a "Movie Trailers for Dummies" book and get me an AVATAR trailer now, FFS!
Seriously, I'll bet anyone the Jonas Brothers 3D movie will be better than AVATAR. I know it'll make 100 times more money.... -
If you watch if after NY, it works logically. It's basically throwing Snake into a really colourful location instead of a Hell-hole... and that 'in one' basketball scene is awesome.
-
Did you mean fave Carperon films because you just mashed two directors together brother.
-
Sorry. It's the cough medecine. Ignore that post.
-
I just wish I hadn't drunk all that cough syrup this morning.
-
Yeah,I've been sick for hte last few days. My chest feels like Harry's sitting on it, and every time I breathe it makes a noise like somebody's choking Phyllis Diller.
-
is like drinking a gallon of cough medicine and then having to lie down until the penguin goes away,
-
Carpenter used to rule, but now he's a has been. He hasn't made anything remotely decent since MEMOIRS OF AN INVISIBLE MAN. It's a shame. But we'll always have BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA and THE THING, eh?
-
...I always read CoCbacks because I have friends there and I enjoy most of the discussions. In fact, I'll even post there -- until you show up.
-
He had an amazing run of really good flicks.
-
Post memoirs: In The Mouth of Madness. Post Mouth? erm nothing.
-
As much as I love Cameron, Spielberg is the #1 director of all time. Mind you, will he still be after Cameron releases AVATAR, BATTLE ANGEL and THE FORBIDDEN PLANET?
Spielberg's INTERSTELLAR is gonna be something special I suspect. He's biding his time with that one. Just imagine if INTERSTELLAR and BATTLE ANGEL are released in the same year!! FUCK YEAH!!
One project I'd love Cameron to do is CTHULHU in the modern day. WOW!!! -
Whooppee fucking doo. I am still not getting the JC dick sucking that is running rampant around here. A fucking bed?? That's all you can show us? Give me something, ANYTHING that will actually get me really interested in this film other than the fact that the great god James Cameron is making it. Right now I am more interested in seeing Star Trek than I am Avatar.
-
And yes, I have my director's straight now :), I think after "In the Mouth of Madness", I'd love to see Carpenter do a *true* Cthulu pic. Although, I'd like to see Del Toro do it more.
-
I meant he had, from Dark Star, an amazing run of good films. Granted he has slipped off, but that's still a Helluva run.
-
Carpenter lost it a long time ago. On current form he's on par with Paul W. Anderson, Renny Harlin and dare I say it, Uwe Boll.
-
that you cant understand its (supposed) true from photos or trailers.they cant make justice of this film, because this film is 3D,especially a 3d film with new 3d and sfx techniques.
regardless of that Cameron is a god,and u can expect at least a well-done scifi movie. -
Sadly, you're probably right. Man was the shit in his day though.
-
phenomenal run. JACkass yuo are talking absolute shite. Carpenter will never be on a par with that infernal trio.
-
ET for adults. Every time I see that movie I can't believe it's Carpenter, because it's like nothing else he's ever done. Still, I gotta give the "Best Carpenter Movie" award to The Thing.
-
Spielberg is the #1 OVERRATED director of all time. He was great in the late 70s and early 80s but since then he made so much lousy, annoying and infantile borefests that it always puzzles me that he still gets so many kudosAmong his biggest crapfests/disappointments are: Always, Hook, Lost World:Jurassic Park, A.I. and Minority Report. You may even count Indy IV, which should've been soooo much better.
-
I have BTILC, Starman, Krull and Conan the Destroyer to look forward to this week. I hope that'll help me out of the inevitable depression of seeing Revolutionary Road manana.
-
Oh shut the fuck up. So Spielberg made a few movies you didn't like... that doesn't change the fact that he made Raiders of the Lost Ark, Close Encounters, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan... I could go on. Fuck, you people have no attention span. All you care about is what a director did recently.
-
Stat!
-
Were some of the best sci-fi movies of this decade so far...at least among the top 20. Depressing...yes. Dissapointing...no.
-
Add Turner and Hooch right fucking now. Even Hanks admits it is probably his best performance.
-
Netflix said that I will enjoy Destroyer. They've never been wrong!!
-
Jan 13, 2009 12:33:31 PM CST
Agreed. A.I. and Minority Report are fucking awesome...
by dannyglovers_dickblood
...and some of the same people that bitch about those two were hailing Indy IV. So your taste means jack shit to me.
-
Great! I love Tom Hanks. I love dogs. If this doesn't neutralize the Rev Road effect then I may as well bid sayonara to the world right now.
-
this could be the best sci fi of the last decade..or not. Can't wait to see some footage!
-
I hope the fellas didn't oversell BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA. But I must also fully and completely endorse its greatness. BTILC is hilarious and infinitely quotable. One of the most lunatic and enjoyable guilty pleasures of all time."Son of a bitch must pay."
-
Nah...nevermind. I'm not in the mood.
-
I am going to need a full accounting of the millions of internets that I have given your campaign for Mod. I need to see the ROI!
-
Back away slowly from Conan the Destroyer - slowly. Now turn and run as fast as you can! That is one shitty movie. The best acting in that moviw was done by Grace Jones's beat em stick.

Hmmmmm....I'm not sure what everyone else is looking at, but all I see is a blue screen and a regular sci-fi set. Count me unimpressed. As for the ass kicking sneak peek gun shot. I have seen better guns concepted on conceptart.org

As a snake God? What could be so wrong about that?
-
Yo, Happy New Year, sir!The millions of internets are currently in offshore Swiss bank accounts and are awaiting the word from the Secret One who will disclose all and sundry when the time is right.Have you seen my honorable opponent, Gus Van Rant?

When's election day and what kind of political favors are you promising in exchange for my vote? I'd like a cushy union exec job if you can swing it.

I count Saving That Fucking Private to the list, MattmanReturns.
by motoko kusanagi
It's a fucking atrocious war action movie with flat, clichéd characters (maybe except for Mr. Hanks) and filled with hatred towards ALL German soldiers (they all came straight from hell, yeah right). The invasion sequence is very nicely filmed but some scenes in that sequence are too over the top. After that the film goes into boredom mode for one and a half hours and ends in mediocrity. Fuck that. And fuck Spielbergs overratedness. I can't stand that shit any more.

DocP -- I heard you're going back to jail.....
by dannyglovers_dickblood
Police have arrested a Greenfield man for allegedly arranging to sell his 14-year-old daughter into marriage in exchange for $16,000, 100 cases of beer and several cases of meat.
Police said they only learned of the deal after the 36-year-old man went to them to get his daughter back because payment wasn't made as promised. The man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of human trafficking.
-
...that film is pure gold! Easily the best movie from Carpenter, along with THE THING of course! I can't believe some of you haven't seen that classic!
-
lol..I saw Big Trouble in Little China and had to scroll up.
-
No political favors! Everything is on the up and up. Since this is the era of Change, it's time we were moderated on the fair so that we may have faith in AICN once again. As for the election date...good question. I don't think there is one. Maybe that's the punchline for the Mod Campaign joke...
-
Minority Report is a mediocre flick with very nice visuals but one that can't decide if it wants to be a fucking comedy or a serious sci fi movie. Plus, it was pretty boring.A.I. is even worse. A horrible, terrible clusterfuck of a movie which would've been a brilliant, thought-provoking piece of cinema if Kubrick would've done it. But Spielberg, that childish blockhead, made a fucking kiddie movie out of it. With a terrible alien showdown (which reminds me of Indy IV).
-
http://tinyurl.com/5cn38b
-
Yeah Minority Report confused you because it mixed genres. Understood. You're an idiot who doesn't like to be challenged. A.I. gets better every time I see it. You're one of those people who thinks that the ROBOTS at the end of the movie are aliens, because you didn't bother to pay attention. As for not liking Saving Private Ryan... there's no pleasing some people.
-
I love his version of that Stephen King movie. When that 58 Plymouth is in total flames chasing that kid down the road, tell me that isn't one of the greatest images in the movies
But, alas, he indeed has not made anything worth mentioning in a while
And Speilberg is a sentimental hack. Mostly, execpt for Munich, that ruled -
and TFD for Mod in 2012 ... when the world, well, gets TFD'd.
-
I fucking e-mailed him.
-
I fucking love the gritty style and noir influence. One of Cruise's best. Incredible photography, incredible effects, great work by both Michael Kahn and Johhny Williams. All around a solid fucking film. A.I. is a God Damn masterpiece. I agree, it does improve with every viewing. That Flesh Faire is fucking disturbing. I love the episodic feel of the narrative. The ending is amazing. When David holds up the hair and says "Bring her back." Amazing moment. A robot boy that just wants to be loved. I don't know how you can't like this thing. And big props to The Berg for writing it as well.
-
The man is a living legend. I agree with everything MattmanReturns & pr0g2west said.
And by the way, EMPIRE OF THE SUN is one of the most under-rated films ever. -

Big Trouble in Little China...Chocked full of Win and Gold!
by conspiracy
BTiLC is the Gold Standard for geeky popcorn pleasure...the Ultimate B Movie. It never takes itself seriously for one glorious second..yet you never feel cheated nor insulted because you are in on the joke from the minute the damned thing starts. 9 popcorn kernels of 10...and would have scored a perfect popcorn ten if Catrall had just gotten topless at some point.
-
Future generations will look back at A.I. and say why was this awesome film so under-rated??
-
I enjoyed it quite a bit. A.I. on the other hand just did nothing for me.
-
Empire of the Sun is my favorite film of all time.
-
Fuck. How could I forget that one. One of the few films that gets my eyes watering. Fuck Spielberg haters.
-
DONT YOU PEOPLE HAVE WIVES/GIRLFRIENDS TO FUCK?!?!?!
-
You're the whore that fucked all the Ripleys right? That was one funny post.
And the topic has moved on from Cameron hate to Carpenter/Spielberg love. -
...but two films stay consistent. #! and #2.....EMPIRE OF THE SUN, and EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. Write that down and stuff it up your ass Doc P.
-
I believe A.I. is the only movie I've seen where you could hear audible groans coming out of the audience. As the film shifted into alien territory, folks actually started walking out. I very nearly did the same except I have a thing about not finishing movies in the theaters. That and I like watching cinematic trainwrecks to their painful conclusions.
-
I cry like a baby when Jim finds his parents, and when the choir music starts. Fuck, you've set me of... *crying like a pussy*
-
Oh yes, TFD would most definitely have a place in my cabinet (most likely Secretary of Destruction...).
-
I agree with you. Starting with Jaws, I give Spielberg 5 get-out-of-jail free cards for every great movie. After Jaws, Close Encounters, ET, Raiders, and Temple of Doom, he was pretty much set with me. Perhaps I'm being too lenient, yeah. But when I hear his name, I think of THOSE movies. I don't immediately think of Schindler or Minority Report or any of that.
-
and Breakin: Electric Boogaloo 3 and they would be great. And he could successfully reboot Gymkata by setting it in space. Just imagine it--the hero has been taken prisoner aboard an alien vessel. He has escaped his cell, but is now surrounded on the bridge by his reptilian adversaries. It looks like all hope is lost. But wait--the navigator's console looks strikingly like a pommel horse...
-
Whores get paid. I'm a dirty slut. Sluts do it for free. I once ruined a VHS of They Live because those white plastic wheels were apparently not made for fucking. Couldn't help it though after the 7 hour fight scene betwixt Rowdy Roddy Piper and Kieth David how could I NOT try and fuck that movie?
-
but what has he done for me lately?

It's been around since at least the 19th century.
1922, James Joyce, Ulysses, page 938:
"Ho! What do I here behold? Were you brushing the cobwebs off a few quims?"
Although I would have though the plural of quim is quim.

The Mothership returns to earth to deposit Roy Neary, who hasn't aged a bit and learns his wife Ronnie is dead and his now-adult children are old, have kids of their own, and never forgave him for leaving (the incident at Devil's Tower was successfully covered-up). Forlorn, he seeks out 57-year old Gillian, who witnessed the event with him. Barry, now an adult, has extraordinary powers, apparently given him by his alien abductors years ago. He can break dance like nobody's business. Roy calls upon Barry to pop and lock for his adult children, so they too may believe the encounter and forgive their star-faring prodigal father, who has constructed a giant disco mirrorball in the living room.
-
GHOSTS OF MARS - nuff said.
-
I don't care what the audience thinks. Especially an audience that didn't bother to figure out that the "aliens" at the end of the movie aren't aliens. A.I. isn't a movie for mass audiences. I'm sure that same audience loved the shit out of Armageddon.
-
Means an orgy with Bea Arthur, the Dame Judy Densch, Shirley Jones, and Meryl Streep. "Poor Meryl Streep didn't win her 4 millionth Golden Globe. C'mon you sexy old lady, join us in this big doily covered bed and we'll make forget all about that cunt Kate Winslett.."
-
Don't know how that posted.
Anyway, A.I. is one of Spielberg's most adult, thoughtful flicks. If you think there were aliens in it, you didn't follow the story. Those weren't aliens. -
That's right, eh?
-
Whose to say. But I know that it was quite an uncomfortable few minutes there in the theater. Lots of armchair movie critics providing plenty of jeers and snickers. Personally, I found the movie to be rather boring; an unsuccessful mish-mash of Kubrick & Spielberg that just did nothing for me. I hold nothing against those that like it.
-
Moriarty absolutely loathed the film. I remember reading that and thinking how can this be possible??
I can see how some people find it boring, but I love the film. -
I got to be an extra for the film, the sets are badass. The ships are beyond sweet too.
-
I remember feeling bad for dragging my friends to the movie, because I could tell they didn't enjoy it. But at the same time I thought "I need to see that again". I bought it on DVD, watched it by myself, and started to love it.
-
Yes, I believe the Mechas evolved into the beings seen at the end of the film. At least that's how I understood it. I can see though why some may have been unsure of this at first.I don't recall Moriarty's review but that may be something worth looking up.
-
And I had a threesome with Charlize Theron and Megan Fox.
-
The aliens were just aliens. Why else would they be excavating a site? That was Rickey's understanding of it.
-
I hope you used a condom. You don't know where Megan Fox has been.
-
Spielberg helms the next installment of the space-monster franchise, wherein a facehugger impregnates an ET, and the resulting chest-bursted PredaliET is slum and clumsy--but can self-heal all its "ouchs" within moments of infliction. As the aliens go crazy on a small podunk town in Kentucky, Predator hunts them down...meanwhile, PredaliET befriends a couple of high school misfits there, tugs their heartstrings accordingly, hawks Reeses Pieces, gos to prom, and leads a Rambo-style revolution of humans against the alien invaders. The final battle culminates with a musical number in the town square: We're Only Just Beginning by Chicago.
-
If you look closely you can see fibers and very evolved electronics. Plus their faces show video. They were the legacy of the human race, the next evolution.
-
damn you senior spielbergo!
-
Skynet sends a model 801 back in time to kill ET before he meets Eliott--who would grow with an "enhanced knowledge" and patent several AI systems that would thwart manipulation and put tech rival Cyberdine out of business. After calling the killer cyborg a "penis breath," Elliot is shot dead and ET is gunned down soon thereafter. The 801 quips, "No phoning home, asshole" then puts on its Ray Bans and strolls down the driveway. Roll credits. Total running time 00:00:56
-
but was Deckard a replicant or not?
-
She could have a yeast infection, I still wouldn't care (sorry, WHITE CHICKS joke).
-
Marty McFly arrives from the future just in time to warn Eliott and ET that a killer robot from the future is coming to get them. Eliott's mom, played by the fetching Dee Wallace, falls in love with "Calvin" even though he's just barely older than her youngest son, Michael. Marty uses his skateboard to lead the neighborhood boys on a BMX bike race through the development and into the nearby forest, where the T-801 does in fact arrive to stalk them. The neighborhood boys are killed one by one because hey, that's what extras are good for. Meanwhile, ET goes "A-TEAM" and uses his telekineses to make a plasma canon out of discarded refrigerator parts and an old Milton Bradley "Operation" game.
-
could be eaten with a spoon, like cottage cheese. I still have warts and pus-ridden lesions from her
-
I fucking love the Kingsley storybook narration.
".......and the moment had passed, for Monica went to sleep. More than merely a sleep. Should he shak her, she would never rouse. So David went to sleep too. And for the first time in his life, he went to that place where dreams are born." -
The irony of the ending is that the boy wished so long to be human... eventually he became the window to humanity for the highly evolved robots that excavate him.
-
would that be like fucking a hot basket of muffins?
-
Now I'd rather be watching A.I. and Empire of the Sun instead of sitting here pretending to work.
-
How the robots treat him like a God because he actually interacted with humans. I always love that visual of him sitting in the AquaPlane thing staring at the Blue Fairy for thousands of years.
-
Maybe fucking a hot basket of muffins with papercuts and Louisiana hot sauce all over your dick.
-
It's beautifully haunting and disturbingly desolate. I get chills every time.
-
Big Trouble in Little China and They Live. There.
-
Only without the sugar. And extra eggs. You see nobody douches anymore. Except Andy Dick. And maybe Rainn Wilson
-
Seriously, put down the hoagies, wipe the robocum from thine eyes and READ WHAT I WROTE. I said it had better action scenes then T2. And it does! Chasing down the Replicant on the streets of LA, and the final cat and mouse chase between Deckard and Roy in the Bradbury building are so vastly superior to James "Michael Bay" Cameron's achingly awful peon to robotic fatherhood that it makes Ishtar look like Laurence of Arabia. Really, guys, if you're gonna argue with me, do try and read my posts. Thanks! Also, I'm really enjoying the creativity in the several busts on SPEED RACER. Some of them are very funny. See, I loved the movie, but I don't think its a part of me, so, it doesn't bother me when people ridicule it. (Hint: It has something to with having a life outside of what happens on the screen. Imagine that! You should try it some time.)
-
...it is not an action film, yet the action is better than most of T2. Except maybe the L.A. canals scene. That was good. The final fight looks like dogshit though. No offense to dogs, or their shit.
-
Will it be Harry, Quint,Capone or beaks?
-
I'm going to covering it. Expect an announcement very soon.
-
My old bud DGDB is 100% correct...Aliens had none of the subtlety or atmospheric intensity of the first Alien. It's merely a scifi action film set in space with good effects and wise-cracking marine charicatures. It does NOT compare to the claustrophobic eeriness of the original. Likewise, fanboiz who always defend The Abyss as a great film also need their head examined; The Abyss was an over-acted and overrated mess (Ed Harris even admits that). T2? An effects film with limited soul and a bad performance by Ed Furlong. James Cameron is OVERRATED. I'm stunned by the amount of people on this board who are so easily fooled by his gimmicks....effects and sarcastic lines do not make a good film.

It's LAWRENCE - not LAURENCE. And I'm not going to argue with you over this! However, I disagree with your assessment on BLADE RUNNER vs. T2 action scenes. BR is a whole other animal and whatever action is contained within serves only as a minor spike to the drama. When compared to the LA canals sequence, the elevator scene, or the motorcycle / helicopter / tanker truck chase in T2, they don't really stand out as "action scenes" (in the typical sense). They're more subdued almost like mood sequences.Don't get me wrong though. The BR scenes you listed are fucking ICONIC.
-
Congrats on the hall dude!
-
3some with them? Not bad man. I wouldn't go with Charlize tho. Na bro it's not hard when you live in Wellington. It's easy to an extras for the movies that film out here. Stephen Lang was awesome, he'll finally get some better roles after this.

All action scenes aside-- T2 is like Transformers....
by dannyglovers_dickblood
....in that it was a perfect opportunity to make a touching story about a boy and his robot and both completely missed the fucking mark and made a loud effects driven pile of bullshit. Now I'm not saying T2 is not entertaining in parts so don't jump on my dick with this "T2 is the most entertaining action film ever made!!" Entertainment value aside, it could have been much more. If Cameron knew what the fuck he was doing with a script, it could have been a great story. Instead the Daddy/Son relationship is shoved down our throats until we fucking choke and the character moments are used as cheap bridges from action piece to action piece. Same thing with Transformers. I remember that Spielberg interview where he pitched it to Bay as "A story about a boy and his car...." and I thought, fuck me thats brilliant!! This could be amazing. And look what we ended up with. Same shit as T2.

Snow...in the original story (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep) and in Ridley's director's cut, it is implied that Decker is a replicant. In the voice-over version originally released to theaters (what I like to call the 'lesser version'), Decker was portrayed as human. Each idea has its' strengths: Decker being a replicant makes him an unwitting pawn and a hypocrite; but as a human, he personifies the life that Roy wishes he had. Either way, the story is still cool...but yes, in the original tale, Decker was also a replicant with implanted memories.
-
I'm loving all the posts worshipping They Live, The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China and even Ghosts of Mars. But someone help me out...what the hell do a bunch of John Carpenter films have to do with James Cameron?
-
So far its like this:
1) John Carpenter
2) Johnny Cage
3) James Caan
4) James Cagney
5) Jesus Christ
6) John Cusack
7) James Cameron -
I'll never trust that nutty cunt again!!!
-
...is when Deckard spits at Roy Batty right before he falls. The "Is Deckard A Replicant?" debate will never be decided. Personally, I'm of the opinion that the story is stronger and more meaningful with Deckard being human.
-
Thanks! Rickey's speech is gonna be a trip!
-
I love how Johnny Cage is above Jesus, haha.
-
the story doesnt grab me and the 3D doesnt either. because we all know that 3D is just a way to distract you from how lame this movie is if he was a comptent director he would have made the movie in 2D like every other filmmaker. 3D is not hot mainly because i cant see shit without my eye glasses and i cant put both glasses on. and it will look weird and will distract your mind from the story or emotional scenes.
-
I thought Ridley pretty much stated that Deckard is a replicant in an interview somewhere?
-
"100 cases of beer"
Wow, project much?
-
Ridley Scott said so himself.http://tinyurl.com/9vtqqfI figured you guys already knew this. Now, if PKD said for sure one way or the other, I don't know. As I understand it, Decker is a replicant according to Phillip Dick and seeing as he wrote it, I'd take his word (altho I might be remembering incorrectly so don't take my word for it).The official director's cut also portrays Decker as a replicant. Olmos's character leaves an origami unicorn lying on the floor outside of Decker's apartment and earlier, Decker had a very vivid dream of a unicorn. Granted, possibly just a coincidence but my take is Decker was indeed a replicant.
-
....I will consider bumping him up.
-
really im
-
It will be first one I have seen in about twenty years as well. I can't wait!
-
....but I also remember Harrison saying fuck that. Well....he didn't say fuck that, but he said something along those lines. He said he played Deckard as a human, so thats what he is.
-
according to Ridley, however there are many contradictions in the movie itself. And I do prefer him being a human. The sequal books to the movie never fully explain either, that I can remember.
-
those plastic orange hotwheel race tracks until the geek gets back in my skull. Sorry for such a tragic mistake (and I was just hyping the BR blu which I just bought and watched like a month ago! I am a penitent geek! A penitent geek!)
-
"I played a detective... who didn't do any detecting." - Harrison Ford
-
Seriously though, who the fuck goes to the cops and says "Hey-- that dude never paid me for my daughter I sold him, so I need her back." Uhhhhhhh......
-
Cause I can think of at least 3 instances of real "detecting" insofar as Deckard being a detective in the movie.
-
...I saw that interview. But it doesn't look like he dislikes the film. He just looks like he thought it was bizarre and still does. He has said he despised shooting it, but he enjoyed watching it after they took out his shit narration. He said that was the first time he was able to enjoy it. I think he enjoys Blade Runner more than Star Wars.
-
A lot has been said over Ridley's take on Deckard's "humanity". Some folks think that he fails to understand his own movie and that he's been trying to insert this "clever twist" for years. Others think the inclusion of the unicorn daydream is about as clumsy a clue as one could half-ass insert in a workprint/director's cut. And from what I recall, Harrison Ford and the screenwriter completely disagree with Ridley's assertions. But it's all very interesting. As for PKD, it's been a long time since I read DADOES. While I do recall that it's somehow implied that Deckard's a replicant, he never definitively says that's the case. But like I said, it's been a long time so I could be wrong.(I seem to remember something about a bone marrow test that was used to screen replicants. Is that right? Can anyone confirm?)
-
why does harrison ford hate star wars? it didnt stereotype him so why the hate?
-
He seems totally bored with everything he's ever been involved with except Indy IV. That was the only project he showed enthusiasm about when he called the script "DYNAMITE." So uhhhhh.......yeah.
-
DYNO-MIIIIIIIIITE!
-
I love this debate. I'm a sick fuck, I guess. Anyway he is or isn't depending on who you are and which version you're watching. Since I'm me and I saw the original version (or the original version) first, Deckard is not a replicant. Some of you, on the other hand, are watched a pretty cool movie with an inferior conceit wherein Deckard is a replicant.
-
Re: Titanic as the most successful movie of all time - it's not. It's the highest grossing movie of all time, but adjusted for inflation it's number 6 or something. Beyond that it's not the most successful movie artistically either.

I meant "original home video version" btw

From the 35mm show:
"Yes there are two other things which nobody has seen. They come from two of the pinacles of our generation of films, i think when people look back on this era, when you have to be honest and think that just the two things that will actually shine above anything else will be maybe James Cameron's films and Pixar film's, i think people will look back and go they're the two, and they both have films coming out this year."Avatar" which i know everybody is looking forward too seeing that film and it will be an extraordinary moment to go and see it, it will be a true event and to see that movie and to see how he's trying to move cinema forward, which he always does every time he works." -

I'm tired. *yawns*

I like to read it that he is, but I think the movie is made vague enough that you can read it both ways. I've watched the film countless times and at one point I came up with the theory that almost everyone in LA circa 2019 is a replicant, and the only bona-fide humans are Tyrell and J.F. Sebastian. Tyrell's toy box is all of LA, Sebastian's toy box is limited to his large apartment at the Bradbury.
In addition to the unicorn, and the weird red eyes he has in one scene, the noir anti-hero persona Deckard has feels like he was created to be almost a cliche of the classic noir anti-hero. But I suppose by that logic you could easily say that Tyrell is essentially a redux of Dr. Frankenstein.
I don't think that Deckard's humanity or replicantity takes away from the meaning of the story. "Too bad she won't live... but then again who does?" points to the larger theme that, at the end of the day, all life is valuable regardless of where it exists on the social/class hierarchy. Ergo, it shouldn't matter who is a human or who is a replicant; they're both thinking, feeling beings who deserve to be treated as such. -
... on conan obrien - embarrassing
-
funny thing is - as bad as a lot of his later movies are, he is still really good in them - he is a good actor - he brings it, even when in garbage - he strongly felt solo shouldve died in rotj - woulda been interesting if he had
-
..also, but they didn't have the budget for his sarcophagus like throne room.
-
now i see that he is - according to the final cut anyway - he isnt in the theatrical cut (but could be) - the glowing eyes is what makes it a possibility in the early cuts - the eyes plus the dream scene combined with the origami unicorn is what makes it definite in the later cuts
-
That too. Its as if Olmos (I forget the characters name) knows that the unicorn dream / memory was implanted in replicant Deckard.
-
was the same one in Leg-end!
-
Man, I LOVED that movie when I was kid. I don't think it holds up very well, though. Some of the visuals are still beautiful, but its kinda profoundly silly.
-
So that explains his enthusiasm for Indy 4. In an interview he said of the fridge scene that "Indy escapes in typical Indy fashion". He honestly doesn't know anything's wrong with that scene. I don't think anyone involved with the production does.
-
there isnt anything wrong with that scene - its an "indiana jones" movie - that scene was as plausible as the mine car chase or the speed boat chase or indy's stowing aboard a sealed nazi sub - the indy movies havent changed, their audiences have - sadly
-
i wouldve not watched ROTJ. the end. i think i like my star wars full of rising optimism, not conceited dark reality.
-
obi wan was sacrificed in anh - ford felt solo shouldve been sacrificed in rotj in a way that would help the rebels see victory - woulda been sad but cool
-
that scene was the coolest and i loved it man, best part of the movie, reminded me why i love indy in the first place. thank u harrison for performing such a beautiful scene.
-
Easily the dumbest scene in the entire franchise, with the raft-out-of-the-plane scene in second. And I liked Indy 4, btw.
-
Along with the Falcon... as originally planned. Movie needed more of an emotional wallop to make me feel like the victory was earned. Although the Emporer/Vader/Luke stuff was all gold.
-
and it ended with appropriate awe - like i said before... the movies havent gotten sillier... the audiences have gotten older/uptight
-
westworld, Buck Rogers (Jamie Lee Curtis episode)/Close Encounters, A L I E N, Somewhere in Time...
Is Cameron simply a recrafter of other people's original ideas or cinematic moments... a sort of made for TV type of generic director that inexplicably succeeds with pop movies? -

If the bomb had simply blown up, knocked the fridge over, covered it in debris, and the military comes and digs Indy out. It was the fucking cartoony bouncing all over the place that just made it look retarded.

But yeah, I guess people would be screaming racism at Lucas. Although he did invent Jar Jar Binks.
-
Of course he doesn't include one of the successful, literate, educated Gungans in his films. No! He includes some kind of slack-jawed uneducated doofus Gungan, thereby underscoring the racist ideologies that have long kept Gungans out of the mainstream of Naboo society for trillions of years. THE MAN KEEPS KEEPIN' THE GUNGANS DOWN!

People trashing good movies, people trashing fun movies. Sweet zombie jesus. Anyone who cares enough to be on this board, anyone who loves movies, anyone who calls themself a sci-fi geek should be HOPING AND PRAYING that Avatar is as good and game changing as people would have you believe. This is as asinine as people doing the 'my show is better than your show' debates. You should be happy all these shows and movies are around.

I think it's because there wasn't really a story there to tell. Scott wanted to make something like a Disney film, but his tone and aesthetic didn't match that intention at all. He could have made an awesome Conan the Barbarian type film though.
-
It's one of my more anticipated movies of this year, even more than AVATAR. Great book, too. If you guys love dystopian science fiction mixed with good literate writing and a tear jerker ending, pick it up at your local Barnes & Noble.
-
Its all on the Blu-Ray Doucumantry they show the concept pics off the room and they built a Tyrell head worth 20 grand that they didn't use, but I think that was for prosthetic use anyway, and there were 6 replicants I think, 2 "got frazzled in a fence" or something and yes there was another girl whos part got cut forgot her name,
One theory if I remember correctly, with the finished edit without Tyrell being a replicant if there were 6 and 2 didn't "frazzle in a fence" that leaves the other 2 to be Deckard and Rachel? Just one of many theories -

JAMES CAMERON IS GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by illuminate
James Cameron is my favorite Director. I hope this film is more Terminator 2 than the Abyss. The Abyss was a great movie but, it is a little boring to watch.
Cameron does action and romance better than any Director out there so I hope he doesn't lose focus on what he does better than everyone else. -
I'll play them when I'm fucking Goth Lili and Oona.
-
The dialog in all releases of the movie prior to the Final Cut alludes to another replicant who dies before Deckard's final battles with Pris and Batty. The conflicting dialog occurs in the first conversation between Deckard and Bryant. Bryant initially tells Deckard there are four "skin jobs" on the loose, but minutes later says six escaped, and one was killed by the "electronic gate", which should leave five. The explanation is that the script originally contained an additional replicant named "Mary", but time and budgetary constraints resulted in her being written out. M. Emmet Walsh who plays Bryant, reports that new dialog was recorded to change the number of replicants in this scene, but Scott inexplicably only used half of the new dialog, resulting in the inconsistency. This inconsistency is corrected in the Final Cut version of the film.
-
There, the secret is out. Just try and stop me with my Roy Batty style ass-kicking powers. Yeah, thought so...

The Terminator vs. ET stuff from earlier - fuckin funny!

Its so ridiculously schizofrenic, we go from cameron bashing/defending to an analysis of the merits of Speilbergs movies to the merits of John Carpenters movies and now we're talking Blade Runner.
-
they had to find something interesting to talk about, there's only so much you can say about that ridiculous pic of Cameron and his stupid waffle iron bed.
-
you can't tell shit from that pix....i'm getting sick and tired of seeing posts from people blowing their wad over a boring photo from a movie that they want to be amazing. therefore, anything that shows up on that movie is the NEW AMAZING thing......kind of takes the wind out of the stuff that truly is amazing....
-
And put next to the other picture with his arm outstretched, pointing out to the teamster where he wants the port a shitters to be placed, I've come to this conclusion about Avatar, I could fucking care less. Please, kool aid drinkers, realize this. Cameron is like EVERY other director in Hollywood, he has shit wafting off his resume and NO director is deserving of the ball sack tounge bath Cameron's getting.
-
you're just making shit up about Blade Runner. Only 2 humans? What the fuck? Why don't you try watching the actual movies rather than whatever movie you THINK is on. PS- Deckard is not a replicant. That was Scott misunderstanding the script and the original source

that is a fact...watch regarding henry or one of those other self important mopy dull films he made in the delusion it was f-ART

Well, maybe except for LaserPants. :P But this thread is one of the reasons I keep returning to AICN. We went from Cameron's future bed to Carpenter and Spielberg and arrived at another Deckard-replicant-or-not discussion. Guys, I love you.Somebody had to say it.
-
I agree, I like Spielberg better than Cameron too. Even Cameron said Spielberg was "beyond reproach". But in his arena, the sci-fi action movie, Cameron is king.
-
I agree with LasrPants: Legend is a beautiful film. And both the scores are incredible in their own right.

Relax. I just said it was a theory I had. I've watched the film at least 50 or more times since it came out, and during one of those viewings, whilst very stoned, that thought popped into my head. Now, do please twist that into some insane misinterpretation.

Watch it again carefully for clues galore. Pay attention to the frozen eyes and remember your dream analysis.

*Spoiler*
-
Seriously. Maybe I was too dissappointed and sad when Kubrick passed away and Steven Fuckberg took over his work. *sigh*
-
Kubrick's version would obviously have been about 1000 times better. But in a summer of trash like Pearl Harbor, Planet of the Apes and Tomb Raider, A.I. was pretty amazing.
-
I like it alot, actually, though it is flawed; mostly because of Spielberg's goofy ass cloying worldview. BUT, he managed to do an admirable job with Kubrick's ideas given that Kubrick is to Spielberg as God is to an Insect (or James "Michael Bay" Cameron). BUT AGAIN, Kubrick apparently intended for Spielberg to make the film, saying that the underlying themes were more in line with his (Spielberg's) ideals than his own...
-
I don't know that Kubrick's would have been that much better. It's just kind of a hokey story, and from what I've read, Spielberg followed Kubrick's plans - such as they were - slavishly. Maybe that was the problem?
-
Also, on the subject of Deckard as replicant (again): I really don't care what Ridley Scott thinks or intended. I don't care if someone asked him to take out the stupid unicorn, or if he just forgot about it. I don't think he's a very clever man, anyway. In that BR doc when he reveals to the camera that Deckard is a replicant, he sounds so self-satisfied, as if he came up with something really tricky and interesting instead of the cliche gimmick it is. Anyway by all accounts it was up in the air during production, as otherp layers including Ford were sure (And assured) Deckard was NOT meant to be a replicant. I think it's just an idiotic idea Scott came up with during editing.
-
1. James Cameron
2. Steven Spielberg
3. Martin Scorsese
-
Kubrick's framing and detached approach would certainly have given the slight story some heft and emotional detachment. Spielberg just couldn't resist his emotional urges, with John Williams tinkling the ivories. In fact, replace John Williams music with the music from the Shining and imagine the result.
-
Ironic that you'd accuse me of that having propagated the most demented misinterpretation of Blade Runner that I've ever seen. Not big on self-awareness are you?I agree with Motoko- AI sucks.

Hook, Jurassic Park, Temple of Doom and others)Also, there's next to none tension or suspense, loads of crappy (=unimaginative) set pieces, the atrocious happy ending (aliens or evolved robots, I don't care -- I always thought those were aliens who looked like a mix of CE3K and ABYSS alien design) etc.etc.

Aah, Mr. Kusanagi and Lost Jarv have spoken. Can't be fuckin' bothered by reading all the posts in here, I can already guess the answer, and life's too short.
-
Schindler's List, I'll give it that.
-
Read it already! I've read a bunch of stuff about it in the past though, so nothing new there. But thanks.
-
I still like it better than The Abysmal.
-
People love to "read" it as a dark Kubrick story that Spielberg fuzzed up, but that's just not the case. For instance, the ending which so many people smugly proclaim a tacked-on, typical Spielberg happy ending was none of those things.
-
We're never going to know for sure, because Kubrick died before it even went into production. Spielberg has said that Kubrick had given up on directing it, and had basically handed it over to him because he felt Spielberg was a better match for the material. Is this 100% true, we'll never know because Kubrick wasn't there after the movie was released to say so. We'll also never know for sure if the "final" cut of Eyes Wide Shut was indeed Kubrick's final cut. We've got to go on other peoples' word on that one too. I do think that flaw in AI was just having a project intiated by Kubrick completed by Spielberg. They have two totally differnt styles and world views that don't go together well. It's an interesting experiment, but much like the 1998 Psycho, it's nothing more than that.
-
Bronze throne? Give me a fucking break, I am so sorry that I am not pumped up about a movie that I know nothing about, whose sole images have been the director and an actor, and a fucking bed. I guess I should be like all the other sheep and bow down at James Cameron's feet just because he is making a movie. I never said I won't go see it because I will, JC is a great film maker. But the proclamation by so many that this will be the be all end all of movies this year is retarted. Sorry my opinion does not meet your standards. I judge a movie by the finished product. Sure I can look at a trailer and say a movie looks crappy or looks good, but I reserve final judgement for the finished product, sorry that's just me. I am not waiting to be convinced by the hype genius, I am waiting to be convinced by the fucking movie.

I'm glad this TB has turned to discussing good films.....
by dannyglovers_dickblood
Like Blade Runner, A.I., Minority Report, etc......
Lets forget about the Cameron talk. From now on lets use the Avatar boards to discuss our favorite films of the past 25 years. I'm sure James will love that. -
have seen Kubrick direct? Imagine Kubrick's version of Jurassic Park or Hook??
-
When people aren't talking about Cameron's oeuvre.

http://handofmessi.blogspot.com/
Batman we hardly knew ye -
Does this mean in six months 4 new Batmen will show up-A Cyborg Batman, a teenage clone Batman, an African American Batman in a metal suit, and an old Batman with weird glasses.
-
As far as Kubrick wanting Spielberg to direct, it's not like only Spielberg says this is so. Other people involved have also talked about it; anyway, why would Spielberg LIE about it? Also, from what I understand, he didn't agree to direct it in the end. It just so happened that Kubrick died, Spielberg had a funny feeling that Kubrick wouldn't ever actually make the film, and knowing his buddy had wanted him to take the reins, he took 'em. As far as the story goes, well before Spielberg got into it, there was a piece in Vanity Fair about Kubrick that laid out the plot of AI, right down to the evolved mechas at the end ... It was point for point just like the finished project.I think tonally, that's where it's mixed up. I bet if Kubrick was alive and Spielberg directed it it would have been more consistent; SPielberg wouldn't have aped or "paid homage" to Kubrick's style, thus causing a patchwork effect. And maybe Chris Rock wouldn't have had a unforgivable voice cameo? Eh - one can dream ...
-
....the Chris Rock thing, and the zaniness of Dr. Know. I like the idea of the character, but Robin Williams was a little too over the top. Other than those two moments....the rest of the film is a flawless masterpiece. I wish Kubrick lived up to the hype I made a film I enjoyed this much.
-
In my eyes it remains that it was a bad idea for Spielberg to direct AI, whether it was Kubrick's idea or not. The film has nice visuals and a great John Williams score, but to me, it's a schizo mess. It was bound to happen when you take a project intiated by Kubrick and finished by Spielberg. So I'll say this-If it was Kubrick's idea for Spielberg to direct it, then Kubrick is at fault. If Spielberg wanted to manufacture a story about Kubrick giving him his blessing so he could get back into sci-fi with a great concept and help bring the last "Kubrick" film to the screen, than I blame Spielberg.

It's funny how people have seemingly forgotten that Cameron...
by mr. nice gaius
...is the guy who read tributes lifted directly from AICN Talkback at Stan Winston's memorial service.Say what you will about the man's films (most would agree that some are stronger than others), but the guy deserves tremendous props for that. And make no mistake, the guy knows his shit and he knows why geeks "get it".That being said, I think it's unfortunate that people think AICN is somehow sucking Cameron's cock by running photos like the one above. Back in the day, early production photos were what drove people to buy film magazines or visit budding new websites like AICN. And it appears that somewhere along the way, that sense of eager anticipation for something new and exciting has been lost.As I've said before, the real "hype" for this movie (AVATAR) hasn't even begun. Just wait until the first official images and footage show up. Then watch what happens when all the major media outlets start running with it. You ain't seen nothing yet.
-
The hype is being created by the fans, because Cameron has repeatedly delivered for them.
-
Some Kubrick films better than A.I. - The Killing, Paths of Glory, Lolita, Dr Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut.
-
..I disagree. I don't hate Kubrick. I just don't find him to be amazing. The film of his I enjoy most (whether he really directed it or not) is Spartacus.

Great-Minority Report and Catch Me if You Can....Average-Indy and the Crystal Skull and AI...Bad-Munich and War of the Worlds...So Bad it's almost good Movie-The Terminal

1. A.I.
2. Minority Report
3. Catch Me If You Can
4. Munich
5. The Terminal
52. Indy IV -
I don't know how I'd rate it, but certainly not high. I mentioned yesterday that when I think of Spielberg, the first stuff that comes to mind (Jaws, CE3K, ET...) all fall within that magic window of time 1975-85. War of the Worlds was okay, but not memorable and not his idea
-
It's sentimental garbage that doesn't hide the fact. I think that's why I have problems with a lot of Spielberg's recent films. They go from being dead serious to overly sentimental.
-
and it's various interpretations. I just wanted to raise the Blade Runner debate since it was, uh, sort of on topic. I'm not convinced Ford hates BR at all. I do recall that he and Ridley did NOT get along at all during the shoot. But I think they made up, no?

Great-Jurassic Park(even though I still think this film is the one movie I'd like to see remade to give us a more horror oriented version), Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan...Average-none....Bad-Hook, Lost World, Amistad

Great-Raiders, ET, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, The Color Purple, Empire of the Sun..Average-Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade...Bad-TWZONE-Kick the Can (worst thing he's ever directed) and Always

Movie poster artist Drew Struzan has a book out with pictures / prints of all the artwork he's done for Stephen's movies. I defy you to thumb through it and resist the urge to jack off, it's so beautiful
-
Oh yeah, I forgot about "Catch Me." I saw that at the theatre and was surprised how much I enjoyed it, even Leonardo
-
Great-Duel, Sugarland Express, Jaws, Close Encounters....So Bad it's good-1941 (Yeah it's crap, but it's got it's moments. I'll take this over the serious duds like Amistad)
-
And Catch Me is a damn fine film with some of Leo's and Walken's best performances.
-
Did you read the book. Spielberg's movie was a great kiddie shock and awe thrill ride, but the book is a lot darker, and much more horrific.
-
Is this a new Drew book? And its just Berg films?
-
Yeah I did read the book and I loved it. One of the most fun reading experiences of my life. There was a lot of good shit missing like the river raft ride. And I love the gore, like in the scene where Nedry is killed and the Dilaph slices his stomach open and he reaches down, holding his own warm intestines. Awesome. But remake? No. Don't fucking touch it. Don't even look at it. For one thing-- the CG will never be as good.
-
... or blocked it out of my memory. Yeah that was brutal, particularly at that point in the movie, as the quieter first part moves into the more kinetic second part, Dr Know is a bit much . Talk about going from zero to 60. Plus it's fuckin' Robin Williams and anyone with any pop culture knowledge is gonna get taken out of the movie a bit there, like with the abominable Chris Rock cameo I despise so much.
-
No, there is about 7 Batmen vying for it. I tried to find the pic but couldn't. The series is called "battle for the cowl".
-
I like some of these movies, but I think he's lost his inspiration. Some people are better when they're young and he's one of 'em.Even a near-total misfire like 1941 has more personality and juice than his better recent films.
-
Jan 14, 2009 11:01:15 AM CST
yeah...I agree. Its wrong for that point in the film.
by dannyglovers_dickblood
Dr. Know should have been a deep James Earl Jones sorta monotone voice. It could have almost been scary in how loud and foreboding it was. And it shouldn't have been an animated character. It should have just been weird abstract lights. I see it as a more of a creepy fortune teller than a car salesman.

JAMES CAMERON ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by illuminate
James Cameron has a gift when it comes to making more commercial/fun movies and at the same time making more critically acclaimed movies than other Directors. Aliens was way better than Alien both on a dramatic level and on a fun level.
Ridley Scott hasn't made a successfull movie since Gladiator nearly a decade ago. Scott probably made Gladiator since Cameron was getting all the lime light from Titanic all the way back to Aliens. So, Scott was following Cameron's lead. Now that Scott has fallen on his ass making boring as films for the last decade he is now making a fun film like the new Robin Hood.
Don't get me wrong, Ridley Scott is a genius and the film world would be nothing without him. -
James Cameron has made more critically acclaimed films than any other director? Damn. You Cameron Groupies are getting funnier and funnier.
-
Because we know who "directed" it.
-
No, sorry I should clarify. I forgot what the book is titled, but it features ALL of Drew's work from ALL movies, Spiel, Lucas and more. I picked it up like three years ago at a used book store for like $15 bucks, it was cheap so I bought two
Sam, you're right--I remember reading about that. -
for geeks, it's almost as good as porn
http://tinyurl.com/8teqp2 -
The thing that always bugged me about that movie was how the dinosaurs didn't seem dangerous enough. It felt like a theme park ride where the characters are pretty safe, instead of an OMGWTF are we going to do everybody's being massacred movie (which the book was a lot closer to).
Not that they'd ever actually remake it, but I think a dark take on the material would be really cool. -
What? Ridley boring? Are you not entertained?
Yeah, bad one--heh. I agree though, Gladiator rocked but nothing Ridley sticks out since Alien and BR -
In theory, you guys are right, it could have been more dangerous/scary. And you have good intentions, I understand. But that shit would NEVER turn out good. You'll get Paul Walker as Alan Grant, Kate Hudson as Ellie, Ashton Kutcher as Ian Malsolm, Miley Crys as Lex, and Freddie fucking Highmore as Tim-- Richard Attenborough will reprise his role as Hammond. Directed By: Len Wiseman Music By: Tangerine Dream Oh...and it will be shot in New Zealand and look like every other fucking movie filmed there.

Your list was pretty good up until the part when you put Indy IV above Munich. Uhhhhh, what?
-
I enjoyed Munich, but it felt 'strained' to me, Spielberg always seems to be trying too hard with his 'adult' movies. Plus the sex scene intercut with Bana thinking about the attack was one of the worst pieces of editing i've ever seen in my life. I enjoyed Skull. Sure it was flawed but it was a return to my childhood, and it was just cool to see Indy without Sean Connery hanging around giving lame comic schtick. In fact I enjoy Skull more and more each time I watch it.

I think ET is where Spielberg switched from a kind of revisionist, New Wave-aware, outsider's version of Hollywood to just plain old Hollywood. When I see those bikes go past the moon, I just think damn he's laying it on a bit thick here: "Okay, here's your ICONIC IMAGE, kids!"
-
I'd love to see another version of ET where not only are the special agents'guns back in, but they also SHOOT at the boys and their bikes, and C Thomas Howell is shot. Just because. ET could "ouch-touch" him anyway.
-
that a group of raptor are--haha--going to be trained to use guns and stuff? Preposterous.

The ONLY truly great Spielberg movie this decade has been Munich. A.I. and Minority Report were mediocre, confused works at best. War of the Worlds and Indy 4 were throwaway junk. The terminal was a harmless, sentimental bit of fluff. Catch Me If You Can was actually good fun. But Spielberg's quality of work has unravelled very slowly and consistently over the last 10 years, especially when it comes to making popular entertainment. Munich was the one exception, because he still seems to bring his A game to 'serious' dramatic works, which bodes well for Lincoln, but not for Tin Tin or Interstellar. I hope I'm wrong about the latter, because it has great potential and it would be a shame for him to fuck it up.Spielberg is prone to laziness and will just churn stuff out because he's feels he's got nothing left to prove. He's knows he can just coast the popcorn stuff so he doesn't even try. He knows when he does something like Schindler or Munich or the hugely underrated Amistad that he's got to put some effort in. Which doesn't always mean he suceeds, but at least he tries.
-
is horrible. The CG fx have absolutely no sense of wonderment about them.
-
It can't be bargained with, it can't be reasoned with, it doesn't feel pity or remorse or fear, and it absolutely will not stop, EVER, until you are DEAD!" Gotta love Michael Biehn.
-
And I'm a pretty anti-CG guy. But there were a few great inclusions in that film. Like the wide shot of E.T. standing on the mountain overlooking the city as his ship takes off, great shot. And I liked some added details to his facial expressions. I don't think these took away from the story at all.
-
I didn't like it, it was too goofy, especially his facial expressions, which were overdone. The Rambaldi suit had a simplicity and beauty to it that the CG couldn't match. I especially didn't like the shots of E.T. running through the forest at the start.
-
I'm thinking back on originally seeing it and what made E.T. feel special. And I think it did have a lot to do with the fact that he WASN'T very expressive. Its sorta odd and intriguing how he just stands there and stares at the kids with those big eyes and we don't really know what he's thinking. It also made the tone of his sounds a lot more special, like R2. I change my mind-- fuck that CG. I defend it because it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been and I thought it blended rather well. But to think of it in terms of his character it should go away.
-
We agree so often bro that I have to ask...what about AI did you find enjoyable? I found it a vapid overly-precious mess with a watered-down darker tale that was never fully embraced (the flesh faire...the underlying theme about abandonment and conditional love). The movie's alright; but I put it among Spielberg's ten worst works (and sadly, the Kubrik portion didn't really do much for me either). I found the whole film tedious.
-
I dunno. I really just love almost everything about that film. Its such a noble quest David embarks on. Something about that movie just hits me in the fucking gut. It surprises me others aren't so emotionally affected by it. A kid just wanting to be loved is a sad fucking thing. I also enjoy the design of the world, the technology, Jude Law is great, Teddy is one of the best side-kicks ever, the original score, the photography-- I think everything is executed perfectly in that film.
-
if it didnt work for you then I can only assume you have never read a batman comic before. it was something that could have been taken directly from a comic.
and it is a scene that did several things - 1. last time scarecrow was a tough challenge for batman but now batman has more experiance and guys like scarecrow are second tier. 2. its just like something that would happen in the comics. Starting off a story with scenes of batman bringing down another character that has nothing to do with the story abouyt to begin. 3. it sets up the rogues gallery. Gotham has these crazy villains just running around out there and batman faces them on a day to day basis.
I do not understand how anyone thought that scene was wasted or bad. it was great. -
when batman comes out like this mythic god with that badass music and starts beating the shit out of everyone, with those edit cuts in time with the music. man. Toughest thing ever. plus the whole idea with the rogues gallery is awesome.
-
over the weekend while snowed-in with my kids. I've always like 'em both, but mostly CE3K, which has aged well. This viewing of ET was the first time for me I saw that added stuff--the bathtub scene, etc. Cute, but didn't add much to the emotional weight of the film. CE3k resonates even more with me now that I have kids (like Neary) and (like Neary) I still have my own dreams in my head, and wonder if, given the chance, I would give everything up in my life to really pursue those dreams.
Ah fuck yes of course I would, aliens come get me -
because
1) It concludes the Scarecrow story, since he got away last time
2) It establishes that Batman has inspired others to fight crime, so much so that they masquerade as him. Joker uses this later, even kidnapping and killing one of the imitators
3) It shows the bad guys fear and respect Bats, yet hold him to a higher standard (they know he wouldn't use guns, and Crane recognizes the imposter right away because he had a gun
4) The dog attack provides a reason for Bruce to upgrade his armor: "I'm carrying too much weight--I need to be faster" -
You mean that shot when he is just awkwardly standing there waiting for the cue from Nolan to bend the tip of that rubber gun like Robocop. How the fuck can Batman bend a gun barrel anyway? Awwwww well..
TDK talk.....yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn. Boring. I'm outta here if that shit starts up. IN HERE-- WE DRINK WHISKEY!! -
....but in execution it fucking blew. It had no style. No impact. The image of Batman just standing there looks goofy as fuck. What could have been a bad ass shoot-out was weak and tame feeling. There is that shot of Batman hobbling through the parking structure and climbing up on the ledge to jump on the van-- uhhhh yeah. Fucking gay looking. There was something very clumsy about the whole thing. Very weak intro to Batman. Like most of the film Joker's intro makes Bats look like shit.

John Scalzi hired as Creative Consultant for Stargate Universe
by dioxholster
isnt that cool? he write the best book Old Man's War and now hes doing stargate. awesome.
-
Especially when you consider that he's been going at it for about a year, he's a little banged up, tired, and he's a put out and annoyed with having to worry about his imitators getting in the way.As for bending the gun barrel, wasn't he wearing some sort of hydraulic arm-piece? There are several moments in the movie when you can see the guy is carrying some serious gear.
-
but it's not a great flick. The editing is just too rapid for me, I don't know, maybe it's just me getting older but when I start to get confused about the geography of a scene I just tune out. And Nolan isn't a great action director. And I thought the last half hour was really boring. Some good stuff in there though, especially the first shot of The Joker's face with that cool music cue. I ca undestand why the comic book fans like it, as it is everything they wanted to see in a comic book movie but never had before as they got repeatedly shafted by the Hollywood studios. But it's not a magisterial piece of cinema, no matter which way you look at it. I still think Memento is by far Nolan's best work.
-
its a perfect film overall.
-
IT definitely goes a way towards showing how things have changed as a result of Batman's appearance on the scene. As far as bending the gun barrel, yeah he has some gizmo that does it, which is kind of stupid anyway; "Alfred, where's my gun barrel-bender?"I agree with Dickblood to the extent that it's a little awkward, but any shot where you can really see that one piece rubber cowl is awkward. I don't know why they felt the need to explain how he got a better suit, just give him the fucking suit. I mean, he says "I need to be able to turn my head" ... Why admit that shit? What, we're supposed to think he actually went out and fought crime with no peripheral vision and a head with no swivel action?
-
It's not a perfect film at all. You may really like it, but it is flawed. Especially Bale's bland central performance. What do people like about him? He's incredible boring. And there should have been a much better and more involving third act. Still, I don't want to get into a Dark Knight argument, it's a good film compared to most of the garbage out there.
-
Think about it
-
hmmm... aliens might be better for the masses (like a football game), but it is fairly low-brow idiotic compared to Alien. What is admirable about Aliens is that it managed to puree all the ideas originated in Alien into a superbowl type main stream movie with dumb one liners. Okay... fun is not bad, and Aliens was fun to watch, and well structured in a sugar action way, but it is not the kind of movie I watched over and over and obsessed about like the first one. It's sort a made for TV vibe mindless revision of the first one for all the civilians. It also destroyed what was superstitiously spooky about the alien itself by metaphoring it into a bug animal with very earthcentric motivations and life cycles.
-
...but it is getting much weaker with each viewing. That opening with Batman was just fucking pathetic. Its no excuse to say Batman is banged up. He can still be all stylish and kick ass in other scenes, but at the beginning he moves like a 90 year old? What the fuck? There was something odd and rehearsal feeling about that shot of him stumbling toward the ledge to climb up on. I think he is too flatly lit, and the suit looks like dogshit in that scene. It looks like fucking BMX gear.
Something that really bothers me on repeat viewing are how many of the same locations from BB are used. If Chicago doesn't have everything you need- its time to go to a new fucking city. I'm sick of seeing the same shit. -
Wow...I thought the point of the opening scene was pretty clear in terms of showing how he's been going at it for quite awhile and may, on occassion, get in a little over his head. (Hence the adjustments to the suit and so forth.) Besides, after being rammed into a wall by a van, you'd probably move like a 90 year old, too.
-
....everything about that scene sucks. Especially that horrible fucking line "I'm not wearing hockey pads." I think that is far worse than Ahhhnold's "A FREEEZE IS COMING." At least the latter was funny.
If you think its a wonderful introduction of Batman to pan over and have him just standing there-- than thats great. I expect a little more theatrics out of a guy dressed as a fucking Bat. Nolan made him cool and scary in Begins, I don't know why he resisted doing so here. TDK is clearly a much better film, but Batman himself went way downhill. -
Jan 14, 2009 3:42:46 PM CST
It makes him move like that to be rammed into a wall....
by dannyglovers_dickblood
....but he's just fine landing on his back from a 5 story fall? Oh God-- I don't wanna get into this shit. It starts to destroy the film.
-
Well, I thought that line was pretty amusing. It seemed like a nice little reprimand meant to remind his imitators that what he was doing in general was extremely dangerous. I don't know what to tell you if you prefer the Arnold line...As for the "5 story fall", we didn't exactly see him get right up and start running down the street, did we?Any movie can be destroyed if you project too much upon it or watch it relentlessly, looking for faults and inconsistencies.
-
Jan 14, 2009 4:52:19 PM CST
thats true...you can destroy anything if you want to....
by dannyglovers_dickblood
....but I was surprised the replay value was so bad at home after enjoying it very much twice in the theater. And the imitators thing is just fucking stupid. It served no purpose whatsoever in a movie thats already too long. Could have easily been cut.
-
"I have really come to hate Maggie G. in this movie, she says nearly every single one of her lines as a smirky come hither delivery." - Couldn't have said it better. If you had told me a year ago she would turn in a worse performance than Katie Holmes I would have laughed. But somehow she managed it.
-
Totally agree. Holmes was bland but at least there was kind of earnestness in her character that she was fighting for justice in Gotham. Maggie G totally ditched that for a really annoying interpretation. I'd forgotten how much she irritated me through the film. A shame, imagine how much more effective Rache;s death scene would have been with Holmes strapped in that chair. She was much more innocent than Maggie G.
-
was great and unexpected. First we see all these imitator batmen in suite which look like Burtons. it was like a piss take on the old films. Also, it sort of drove home the contrast between a man simply dressed as a bat and the real armoured up balls the size of oranges batman. the only thing awkward about that scene was the way he landed on scarecros van and it just stopped. the trailer shot was much more dynamic and i was a little shocked to see it repalced with another inferior take. Batman was not scarey in 'begins'. batman begins is a flawed and trashy film.
-
was dumb. so fucking dumb. the new rachel was believable.
-
I don't know what the exact argument is--whether a fourth movie of a series is good or is the question what fourth movie was better. In my opinion (which means nothing) Saw IV was great...Saw V-letdown. I saw (no pun intended) the first when it came out in theatres, but after my sister's and coworker's insistance, i checked out the rest, and loved the major plot twists/mind fucks, that come up in the end. Saw V didn't have anywhere near the plot twists the previous ones had, and taking that a step further, it was predictable. But Saw IV is a fourth movie in a series that i think deserves credit...these movies are smarter than what i had given them credit for, and i realized they're not your standard slasher horror flicks.
-
since someone's talking batman flaws (i absolutely love both) but what's the deal with batman just bending a rifle with one hand? what, did he take one of those pills that gives you superpowers for an hour?
-
the new rachel was a better actor, but i don't understand how people can call her anything more than mildly attractive. i get it--history matters, but they hadn't seen each other for like a decade. But i don't see why people hated katie holmes so much... i thought she was just fine...she didn't steal any scenes, but she wasn't as terrible as people say. I'd appreciate (honestly) if someone could enlighten me as to why her performance so awful. i liked her just fine, but what do i know, i'm no actor or director. as far as believability (sp? probably) goes, Katie Holmes is hot enough to warrant bruce wayne's love, when combined with history. And i thought she acted fine when she took bruce to the slums and lectured him...but the new rachel was not good looking. she just wasn't. I'd like to see ra's al ghul come back and prove why he's batman's biggest match (in terms of fighting ability, intelligence, and pretty much every major characteristic batman has) joker is the anti batman, like some believe jesus is to satan...but batman is to ra's as jesus is to, i don't know, mohammed maybe? If they bring back ra's and batman and talia fall in love, i will kill someone if the term 'beloved' is thrown around--i cringe every time i read that in the comics.
-
A dark JURASSIC PARK remake with Sir Ian McKellen as the mackavellian John Hammond. Would that do the trick?
-
That film is fucking amazing!! The first time I watched that I absolutely loved it.
-
PAN'S LABYRINTH. There. Good film, I admit that, but there is nothing great about it. 7/10 film IMO.
Am I the only one who thinks this? -
You REALLY take this shit WAY too seriously. Like how you turned my statement that Hostel is smarter than its given credit for into the bizarre and wildly off-base supposition that I said it was the greatest work of satire ever written. Also, are you stalking me or something? Little creepy there, man. Time to take a little perspective break and RELAX.
-
so i'm a dipshit, fine. seems like you could have either a) ignored my post or b) just let me know, sayin 'read above--its covered.' I really like HOSTEL. The second one was mediocre, though. I'm glad he (Roth) is staying well clear of CELL.
-
I agree. I think Katie Holmes done a very good job as Rachel. I think she was better than Maggie Gyllenhaal. I think that was my only criticism of THE DARK KNIGHT - why didn't they get her back? Tom's jealousy over Bale or Echart?? If she had of come back, then I would've felt more sorry when she (Rachel) died, but I didn't.
Anyway, THE DARK KNIGHT is still a 10/10 film. -
Don't forget the man produced Gremlins, too. To this day I can't think of Snow White without wanting to put a popcorn bucket on my head and sing in gremlin-ese. Yum?
-
I know that line, man. I know it is said in Back To The Future 3, but are you referencing something else?
-
....no reference. But you're right, thats when Marty orders a milk? FUCK YES!!!
-
I think you're a nice guy. Go with God my friend!
-
Cool. I'm one of the few people who liked Hostel 2 as well, but I don't think it was as good as the first. I did like that it focused on the business of Elite Hunting, thought that was the strongest element, but the rest of it was sorta uninspired. I agree on Roth. I don't think he's that talented; I think he had a good idea and just got very lucky with it. I seriously doubt he'll ever make another movie.
-
I'd put it at a 10/10, actually. Also, I agree with you on THE DARK KNIGHT. I liked Katie Holmes too, mostly because she's hotter than Maggie G., but I kinda think that Maggie G is a better actress.Apparently Tom "Closet Case Cult Member" Cruise forbade her to star in THE DARK KNIGHT.
-
is pretty amazing, i'd go 9/10. Really moved me when I watched it. Anyone else seen Slumdog Millionaire? Is that the most overrated flick or what? Its a fun film but thats it. For it to be an Oscar front runner is pretty fucking mad actually. Oh and I wasn't hating on Munich BTW Union, just pointing out a few flaws that spoiled the film for me.
-
Agree that Maggie G is a better actress than Katie Holmes, just that her interpretation of Rachel was vastly different from Katie Holmes.
-
oh fuck off. Motoko is right about you, you're a cretinous 8 year old monkey. The fucking nerve of you, telling me to RELAX when you pollute every Cameron TB with increasingly shrill and insane Robodaddy rants. Get a grip, cocksucker. And Hostel was (in the words of DocP) "Worthless, even as Torture Porn".
-
I liked that Scarecrow scene a lot, and I liked both the Hockey pads line and Crane's line to Batman. Danny, you need to stop watching this movie- seriously. Any film would fall apart under the level of scrutiny your putting it through, especially one with as many obvious flaws as TDK. It's a good film, I totally enjoyed it both times I saw it, but there are some big fucking problems with it.
-
And angrily too! Haha! What a jackass. And I am glad that the running T2 gag has upset you so much. It is designed, of course, to out people like you -- raging eternally virginal dorks who take their entertainment WAY too seriously and are unable to separate the things you enjoy from the who you are -- a geek schizophrenic. Let me guess -- you're an obese virgin living in mom's basement? Too bad, so sad.
Note, that it doesn't bother me that you hated Hostel and Speed Racer. Makes no difference to me. And yet my ridicule of T2 sends you into manic spasms of blinding hatred. Perhaps its time to walk away from the screen Put down the hoagie? Get some exercise? Maybe meet a girl (that isn't your mom)? I assure you that if you do these things you both won't be so angry, and won't want to stalk men on the internet. -
I hope this thread never ends. Harry, can you post an Avatar thread every day? This stuff is priceless.
-
I was responding to your cretinous post at Jan 14th, 2009
07:19:12 PM. Not exactly stalking you. Besides that, your fucking idiotic response contained every single geek cliche insult ever used. What I want to know is: Has anything resembling an original thought ever flashed across what passes for your brain? I wonder where you stole Robodaddy from. There's no fucking way you thought it up yourself. -
Jarv, you quoting Doc. P. about Hostel made me laugh out loud. Man, the two of you bear such a strong resemblance to Mr. Burns and Smithers, with you being Smithers of course. Please keep using that slingshot Laserpants to shoot rocks at all T2, Cameron worshipping, humorless fuckers' unprotected crotches, as it brings a lot of joy and pleasure to this movieboard.
-
go fuck yourself asshole, if I want your opinion, then I'll fucking ask for it. Remove your tongue from Laserpants cock before he has a "pop art explosion" in your face. For the record, I'm not T2's biggest fan, I just think there are redeeming features to it and it isn't the worst thing ever.
-
Hahaha, Jarv, you think I should have ask you first for an opinion ??? Hahahahaha. Man, you should see the massive grin on my face, if Julia Roberts could see that she would stop making movies. That was a priceless post man, you really made my day, thanks.
-
Now kindly fuck off.
-
Now, I really can't promise you that, you grungy old chap !!! Greetings from your best new pal. XXX
-
Hahahaha! Oh man, you make it too easy. Guess I must've hit a nerve, huh? Have fun jerking it to Der Ahhhhhrnnuld's blue tinited buttcheeks! He wuvs woo. He is your Robodaddy!

to see your reaction to the Avatar trailer Pants.

DARK KNIGHT WAS DEMO TRASH, ONLY THE IMAX SCENES ARE GOOD THE REST SUCKS.

What is it with you all-or-nothing, black-or-white freaks? Nearly all of you go on and on about only he is or he isn't, quoting everyone but the scriptwriters who both said bollocks to Ridley and that they wrote the THIRD option. Not that he was or wasn't, but that he MAY be. Ridley directing as if he is and Ford acting as if he isn't cancel themselves out. Heh.
It's all so much more satisfying if it's that he MAY be a replicant. The origami unicorn is easily interpreted as not Gaffe's comment on Deckard, but RACHEL being one of a kind (Remember he is helping her escape at the time, and Gaffe knows it), and the dream as visual metaphor. My own subjective opinion is that he might be, and that makes all the difference in the world. God forbid there's a bit of ambiguity in a Hollywood film! Oh and even though Ridley says he is, I couldn't figure out why if he's such a showman he would just blurt that out rather than winking at us and slyly asking "What do YOU think"? Weird-oh.
And apologies for lagging behind & going back to BR. Just trying to keep up with all the posts! As for PL, I gotta watch that thing again. First time around I thought the end negated the whole film. Which reminds me, I gotta watch Usual Suspects again, because I thought the end negated THAT whole film, too... -
I really liked the first Saw. The rest are just okay, but forgettable. The trouble with the series is that there's no protagonist to "root" for. With each new installment we get a new lead character to follow around, but they're ultimately dispatched. By part V, there's almost nobody left. The character of Jigsaw / John Kramer is cool, but as with any "cool" character like Hannibal Lecter or Boba Fett, the more you learn about him, the more damage you do to that cool mystique. Jigsaw was never more cool than at the end of the first movie, when he gets off the floor. Boba Fett was never more cool than we we first see him and he replies "As you wish" to Vader. Sure, I realize the moviemakers want us to kind of think about whether we sympathize with Jigsaw's crusade of making people appreciate their lives. But hey, let's face it--at the end of the day, it's still wrong to put a person, even a crook, into a situation where they are forced to injure themselves to the point where they might even die. And after you bring in Jigsaw's two accomplices and the traps become "fixed" (inescapable), all sympathy goes out the window, and the traps are less cool and more a display of torture porn. It becomes difficult to watch even staged portrayals of people being mangled and killed when there's not a lot of point to it, or if the person isn't making an informed "choice" about what course of action to take after playing one of the "Play Me" cassettes, or if we just met that character like ten minutes ago and have no emotional interest anyway. In short, that's Saw's weakness. Not every story needs an iconic "hero," but it helps to have someone you can latch onto and follow through a series. And in the Saw series, Kramer has no true "foil." It's like, everyone is corrupted in some way. Except maybe Strahm, and even his righteousness doesn't save him. We haven't seen Dr. Lawrence since the first movie (if he did in fact survive). Apart from his infidelity, he was about the closest thing to a protagonist a normal viewer could identify with
-
you are perfectly right, Sir!
-
That would work, as long as he doesn't yell, "NONE SHALL PASS," when a herd of dinosaurs stampede towards him.
-
You're just like a broken fucking record Laserpants. Tedious, tiresome and just annoying.
-
when AVATAR will be... um... irradiating our eyeballs in 2009 as if... as if the whole film was a... was an enormous, suped-up, sci-fi tanning bed thingy. Wow, that photo Quint got so excited about sure is cool, right? Right?Anybody?Hello?
-
for a pic of Jim on set. Imagine the frenzy when the trailer hits...
-
After the trailer hits, computer repair outlets will be inundated with order to fix keyboards and monitors clogged with spooge
-
It will be more calm with a trailer I think. Right now its just speculation and shit talking. When a trailer hits some will say its amazing and some will say its fucking boring. -
Before summer?
-
?????
-
Than why are you stalking me? Why do you keep replying? I must've hit a rather raw nerve, eh? Awww, poor, poor Jarv, all wost and wonely without his Robodaddy. Hahahaha!
-
I think that Cameron is showing some footage at a tech show in a few weeks time. I'd imagine a teaser around Easter and a full trailer around August. Just guessing though.
-
side of the Cameron fence you come down on, you gotta admit it's cool to have a *potentially* big sci-fi action/adventure movie coming out this year. When was the last one? Its been nothing bt shitty action movies and comic book movies the past few years. I can't remember the last really good sci-fi film I saw.
-
Harry said something about SHOWEST.
i googled it and its march 30 to April 2. Maybe there we will get something -
Children of Men -- sci-fi in the sense that it is a work of speculative fiction with strong socio-political commentary set in an eerily recognizable dystopian future. Easily in the top ten best films of the decade.
-
All they do is run run run...
And then they are at sea and all they do is row row row....
And then the cruise ship comes along..... -
Yeah, I think you're right, its ShoWest.
-
Children of Men is an excellent film, and stands up to a lot of rewatching. I was thinking more along the lines of a deep space, futuristic kind of sci-fi film though. I guess we have Star Trek coming in May, but given that has been perpetrated by the 'writers' of Transformers there's not much chance it will be any good.
-
I keep forgetting that I'm talking to the James "Michael Bay" Cameron crowd here. GOOD science fiction confuses and scares them.
-
Btw, my last post was directed at standundermyumbrella, not you. I'm guardedly optimistic about Star Trek, but, I don't know...
-
I think my worry about Trek is it won't be literate if you know what I mean. Trek used to be pretty high-minded, quoting Melville, Shakespeare etc. I fear hiring Kurtzman and Orci will mean aiming the film squarely at the teenage mall crowd. I guess we'll see. The ILM work does look cool though.
-
Yeah, thats kinda what I'm thinking too. The trailer looked like The O.C. in Space. Efx looked great, though.
-
It was announced that AVATAR will be shown on IMAX 3D screens. So does this mean that we wont see it on normal 2D Imax screens? There are even fewer IMAX 3d screens than Imax 2d screens, so how few of us will be able to see it in IMAX 3d
-
just ramble on without even showing the common decency of paying attention to what previous posters said and then just regurgitate the same points. As Rick Moranis said in Spaceballs "evil will always triumph because good is dumb". Drippy little whores.
-
you just don't get it. it's not disrespectful, what harm do i cause by bringing up a topic that has been covered? why does this bother you so much? you expect me to read 1000 posts, just to make you happy? no way, i read about a third and then jumped in. And i don't feel embarrassed at all...why would i? its funny that you call me disrespectful when you're the one being a complete and total dick. like i said, how hard is it to politely say 'its covered--read above.' that's all you needed to say, but for some reason you get angry. again, like i said, you could have ignored me, and guess what? that's what everyone who posted after me did--they simply didn't respond to the point that had already been made, but rather, they responded to one of my OTHER points. How hard is it to understand this??? it has NOTHING to do with showing respect to the above posters...like i said, i read a third of them...but there is just too many messages, and i do not have the time to read them. Don't you dare call me disrespectful when you get angry over nothing and call me a dipshit--THAT'S disrespectful. like i said, keep trying to rip on me thinking that you're embarrassing me, or that i'm embarrassing myself, and continue to compensate for whatever it is you're lacking.
-
KL: "I get so sick of egotistical posters" i'm not egotistical, i just don't have time to read 1000 damn posts, i will read alot of them, though. Its egotistical to get all bent out of shape and attack me over something that doesn't affect anything at all...ignore me, or politely refer me above in the thread. you have the ego--no one else has such an ego that they feel the need to attack more than they feel the need to ignore those who make them unhappy. KL: "If you aren't gonna respect the other talkbackers " its not about respect, its about the fact that there are 1000 FUCKING POSTS that would take me at least an hour to read through. Don't talk about respect to talkbackers when you have the attitude. KL: "why should anyone give a shit what you want to add?" simple: YOU SHOULDN'T. just ignore me, or respond to another point i made, which is exactly what the level headed ones who posted after me did. KL: "take the time to read the rest of the talkback before you just decide you are too good to listen to other's thoughts and embarrass yourself " NO I WILL NOT TAKE THE TIME. its not that i think i'm too good to listen to others, its that i don't have the time...there's other things i have to do. This is the internet. the notion that i would be embarrassed about ANYTHING i said or someone said to me, is rediculous. its more likely that you find yourself embarrassed in the real world, so you feel the need to come here to compensate with attacks on other posters. its rediculous to think anyone would be embarrassed. what WOULD embarrass me would be one of my fuck buddy girls finding out i read comics and post on a site like this...i'd lose the cool points i need to keep a few good things going.
-
yeah
-
I'm done
-
Do I get a price?
-
To me, the ambiguity factor is fine without him being a replicant. There's no need for ambiguity on the question if the question isn't raised, which, in the original version, it isn't. Until they started futzing with it later on, the idea was never on my mind. It's not a black or white issue, because I prefer the original version, or at least my experience with it, when whether or not he's a replicant isn't an issue either way. That's a more artful film, where any ambiguity isn't attached to some gimmicky gotcha aspect, but on the ethical front.
-
Cameron said there would be a normal 2D version as well.
-
I just never liked the original version (with the narration, not the 'workprint'). And I don't think the ambiguity is gimmicky or gotcha at all, it builds throughout the film through your awareness of the irony of his detachment. And obviously it is inextricably linked to Deckard's own ethics.
I respect what you said and the way you said it though - so don't get me wrong. I'm happy agreeing to disagree. Cheers mate. -
Good way for this thread to die, methinks.

Yeah, Children of Men was the last good sci-fi film.
by motoko kusanagi
Though I also gotta agree that it wasn't a kind of distant future sci-fi thingie. Can't remember the last "real" sci-fi movie that was good. The Matrix maybe?Wow. That was TEN YEARS ago.
-
was probably Starship Troopers.
Perhaps its death at the BO killed the genre... -
QED.
-
I love that movie; the satire elements are what make it so great. Did it die at the BO? I thought it did okay? After that came the Star Wars prequels. The first two sucked, I liked the third one. But I guess thats not really sci-fi, its more fantasy.
Hey, Motoko, I'm starting to think that aside from our disagreement on T2 and Speed Racer, that we probably like a lot of the same things. -
made $54 million domestic on a $100 million budget. Not great. It made its money back overseas but didnt really turn a profit (until DVD of course).
-
Actually I love the last half hour of Clones, it's pretty insane, especially the Clone gunships swooping into the arena and blasting shit out of everything.
-
whedon's good, not a god, but serenity was a great scifi in recent memory. my brother refused to try watching firefly, but i got him to come to see serenity and he admitted it was a great movie.
