Updated! Mickey Rourke & Sam Rockwell To Play Supervillains In IRON MAN 2??
Hey, guys. Quint here with a little update on Herc's great story below... First, regarding Mickey Rourke... I can't confirm his involvement, but I have heard that yesterday's EXPENDABLES story might have been... quite early, to say the least. I'd count his Expendables involvement as more of a maybe, not a definite, so that definitely leaves him open to appear in IM2.
And about who he is playing, if everything my sources inside Paramount have been telling me over the last few months is right, then Variety's assertion that he'll be playing Crimson Dynamo is the right one. I can at least say I've not once heard Whiplash mentioned as a possibility and if you listen to Favreau's statements about the villains coming out of today's headlines then the Russians certainly make more sense than a disgruntled Stark Industries applicant.
That's what I know... Please do continue on below for the full coverage from Herc!
I am – Hercules!!
Mickey Rourke is reportedly in talks to play an "Iron Man 2" supervillain, but there's some dispute as to which.

The Hollywood Reporter says the “Wrestler” star is negotiating to play Whiplash, a character who first appeared to combat Iron Man in 1968's Tales of Suspense #97.

But a story in Variety differs with the Reporter, claiming that Rourke is actually up to play the supersuit-sporting Russian Crimson Dynamo, whose first print appearace was in 1963's Tales of Suspense #46.

The Reporter also says Sam Rockwell ("Frost/Nixon") is up for Tony Stark's multibillionaire rival, Justin Hammer. Hammer first appeared in a 1978 issue of Iron Man. In the funnybooks, Hammer was an arms manufacturer who funded supervillains.
"Iron Man" helmer Jon Favreau starts shooting Justin Theroux's script this spring in anticipation of a May 7, 2010 release.
I’ve been a Rourke fanatic from “Body Heat” through “Diner,” “Rumble Fish,” “Year of the Dragon,” “Johnny Handsome,” “Harley Davidson,” “White Sands,” “Rainmaker,” and “Sin City.” As man and actor, Mickey Rourke rocks, and the idea of Marvel installing him as a key component of one of my favorite big-budget superhero franchises pleases me mightily!
Rockwell, meanwhile, can play anybody -- but it bears noting he already portrayed a sinister genius mastermind in the big-screen "Charlie's Angels."

Fake rumor like the Eddie Murphy one!!!

We will have to see.
-
Will he throw money on the floor and have Iron Man crawling to get it?
Seriously, I hope this is true but I would love to see more The Wrestler Style Rourke. -
Firstly, sorry about the 'first'. Couldn't pass it up on a story like this though.
This is great news. As soon as I read 'rourke in iron man 2?' I thought of the Crimson Dynamo. Great choice. Favreau and Co are really proving they want more serious actors now - maybe they've realised that whilst the first was great, with better actors in some of the positions (cough, terrence, cough) the movie could be a lot stronger. Enter Rourke and Cheadle.
I for one cannot wait.
Also, and I know I'll get flamed for this: You think if they make a more serious movie it'll shut the ever-ignorantly-praising dark knight fans the fuck up? Sorry, that movie was a good batman film but it was far from perfect or technically flawless. Hell, the only interesting things in a movie titled 'the dark knight' were everyone except the dark knight himself. Yay @ Ledger and yay @ Eckhart. Other than that...blah. Now please, get over it.
-
This is beginning to sound convoluted -- take a note from Spiderman 3 -- less is more
-
As much as I just hated on Dark Knight, it proved that more than two villains can in fact work if they're relevant to the story.

Another "Guy in Robot Suit" villain? Is that all Iron Man has?

That's not a joke but a serious question. I'm totally unfamiliar with Iron Man outside of the movie - are all of his villains guys who wear similar killer technology? That seems like it would get a

For all you old time comic book fans, the Titanium Man challenged Iron Man to a televised fight, kind of like a wrestling smackdown.

is awesome. Goes without saying, but I felt the need to throw that in anyway so I don't sound like Debbie Downer.
-
That last sentence a few posts up should've read, "That seems like it would get a little old."

Iam not too excited about another suit on suit fight to say the least. However Superman has always been dogged for never having a fist fight...No himself doesnt count or the triplets. I dunno. Not exciting. I didnt even like it in Iron Man 1
-
Proves this site really is just a message board.
-
Yes, Iron Man has several foes who are basically evil dopplegangers of himself: Titanium Man, The Crimson Dynamos, Iron Monger. But he also has a bunch of hi-tech foes like Melter, Blizzard, Blacklash, The Ghost and Firebrand. He also has a bunch of people interested in stealing his technology, whether for a foreign government or for their own profit, such as Spymaster, The Black Widow, Justin Hammer and Madame Masque. Finally you've got his arch-enemy the Mandarin, who is totally awesome but hard to pull off in a movie (but personally, I don't think impossible).
-
Rourke can have his career rebooted with this movie like Robert Downy... blah blah blah blah. I'm fucking tired of hearing about old actors getting their careers rebooted when they've really never been gone they just haven't been in a blockbuster movie for a while. Ever since Pulp Fiction and Johnathan Travolta ever older actor now needs a reboot. Call me when Nic Cage gets his reboot or William H. Macy.

You might have just saved me. I am back from 1997. Thank you sir. Would you be offended if I changed my name to Mr. Zeddemore's Ball Sack? .....if not you have my thanks.

I remember him from the '80s so that info is wrong. Love the casting though.

Actually first appeared in 1968, in Tales of Suspense #97.

Between Sin City, Iron Man 2, and The Expendibles
by shut the fuck up donny
Mickey Rourke is at least ensuring that if hits another dry spell in Hollywood he'll be able to make steady income doing convention appearances for being in some potentially memorable films--And I don't say that maliciously, either, as I'd probably love getting paid to travel, sign autographs, and have people discuss my work.
-
Sam Rockwell's mention is really important news as well. Clipping that part of the story off in the description was not necessary. We can bear to read the extra two lines of copy that mention Rockwell, you're not doing us any favors by editing that information.
-
Rockwell is mentioned, I retract my last post and apologize.
-
a) Sam Rockwell seems too youthful of a fellow to play Justin Hammer. I'd much rather see the sequel center around Jeff Bridges' Obadiah Stane. He rocked that role. b) The Crimson Dynamo?! The Cold War is over folks. Why bother?
-
Really? Yeah thats kind of important. But Sam's used to being overlooked.

Sam Rockwell bothered me in Charlie's Angels, and he bothered me in Hitchhiker's Guide the Galaxy. I think he tries too hard.

Oh God, let it be!
-
Seriously, don't it look like the baddie from a New Hope? But its clearly Whiplash he will play, too big to be in a suit. Also, it makes sense since the Black Widow is Russian. Sam Rockwell is perfect to play off Stark in the boardroom. Excellent casting. Part 3 will be even more Dynamrific!

I loved Rourke in Sin City. Without a doubt the standout in that movie. I've dreaming that Chris Nolan would choose Killer Croc as a villain in the next Batman and cast Rourke in the part. Imagine what he could bring, but if he's taking on Iron Man I guess that's less likely.

Everyone says Mandarin wouldn't work, a Chinese alien myth guy wouldn't fit with a technology enhanced Westerner. But that's precisely why he does fit! He's the exact opposite of Iron Man. Every heroes greatest villain is their ideological opposite - think about it.

i have had just about all i can take of Sam Jackson being in every movie. he's so over-used that it's just not cool anymore.

I think I can see that as far as casting more than Justin Hammer.

I've been a HUGE Rockwell fan since Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, he was brilliant in that and has been in everything I've seen him do since. Without him Choke would really have choked. He's very good at playing the slightly to very unhinged characters and I'll really look forward to this.
-
On the realism point; the Avengers movie will feature Advanced Tech (Iron Man), an incredible genetic mutation (Hulk and Cap), and an alien (Thor). How will this all fit together ?
At what point will they let go of the need to cling on to realism.
Re Mandarin, if we already have an Alien in the Marvel Movie Universe why not have the rings as well, alternatively, they become advanced tech. -
Two great actors with solid screen presence in an already great franchise.
By the way, did anyone happen to notice there were no porn titles in Harry's top ten DVD picks? So sad. No hi-def blu-ray titties. Harry, in the immortal words of Mooj: "I'll pray for your cock." -
I agree with you Dapper Swindle, which is why I decided to make a short list of reason why Mandarin makes a great foil for Iron Man:
Tony Stark is hedonistic and very much wild and outgoing; Mandarin is reserved, and has a stick stuck up the stick in his ass.
Iron Man uses a suit of armor that functions as if it was almost magical – it is the limits of human technology and advancement; Mandarin uses 10 magical rings that are actually advance alien artifacts – they are beyond are ability and knowledge.
Both are aristocratic: the difference is that Tony Stark believes it is a responsibility to be born in his position and he should use it to help others; Mandarin believes that he is better than other people and it is his right to abuse his status and position of power.
He represents the enemies of modernity: Mandarin wants to go back to a past era where people like him ruled. He wants to get rid of the ideas of equality and the enlightenment. And like another anti-modernity person, Bin Laden and Al Queda, he might hate how the modernity has changed the world and the effects of technology, but he loves to use technology, especially against his enemies.
He represents the West’s fear of a resurging China: don’t want to go all nationalistic or xenophobic, or even racist, but lets be honest America and the Western world live in fear of China as a superpower. Mandarin would be that fear brought to the flesh.
Plus I agree with Miayomoto_Musashi that the rings could be advanced technology. Who is to say they are not 10 little “arc reactors” like the one is Tony Stark’s chest, which he uses as weapons and to power his own armor?
-
I only "liked" the first film, but you can't go wrong with these two guys. Ever.
-
Think the Studio's could be too sensitive to China, even though the movie studio wont make money in China, as the movie will be pirated etc.
-
Chinese government's always disapproves and demands censoring everything (hanging laundry in MI3). Just cause its going to cause a commotion with them doesnt mean the studios or most chinese people will care (ex: ark Knight and Kung Fu Panda).
-
They are still looking to cast the Crimson's assistant- who goes by the name of Natascha...
-
...Doesn't mean that the Chinese government would disapprove of him as a villain. Remember, in the comics he is also a enemy of the People's Republic of China, hating communism as much as democracy. One of his plots was using Fing Fang Foom to blackmail the Chinese government into giving him a fifth of China.
-
either that or well see a chinese technology mogul who has had a blood transfusion with nanobots the eat him and replace him.
-
As Fing Fang Foom, anyone?
-
Don't get me wrong I'm a HUGE geek, but Iron Man never really appealed to me.Anyway, didn't his whole ALCOHOLIC kick only last like 2 issues? Its up there with Speedy doing H as far as mythos goes, but not nearly as drawn out as most people assume.educate me if I'm wrong.
-
This just in: Mickey Rourke has signed on to appear in 14 new movies. More news in a couple of hours...
-
The Demon in a Bottle story line lasted from issue 120-128. And the consequences of his alcoholism forced him to retire for awhile from being Iron Man and turn the armor over to James Rhodes.
But even if it wasn't that long of run, it had lasting impact on the character. I mean, Uncle Ben's death was in one issue, but it seems to have had a lasting effect on the Spider-Man mythos. -
Can we please please please see the Black Widow in the movie then???? Come on Favs, make it happen.
-
Bad move for Mickey if he takes the role. All that respect he garnered for the wrestler will go down the tube. A forgettable villain in a sequel to an over-rated popcorn flick is not the way to go after an amazing job on The Wrestler.Anybody heard of Ken Watanabe after Batman Begins?? He had an Oscar nod too.
-
Favreau is just syphoning Mickey's new found notariety for his movie. He saya he's a fan and didn't mention Angel Heart or The pope of Greenwhich Village? poser fuck.

Contnetalop...appreciated...oh, and I'm geeking out this post.
by brians life
Thanks for the info. I actually remember picking up issues where Rhodey was Iron Man and Tony was on the sidelines.I even recall one where he's bringing the armor to Rhodey and Tony had sworn to never put THAT armor on again. Something happens to Rhodey and he's forced to.Ah, memories. And now I'm on a sick obsessive kick to buy the Demon in a Bottle storyline on ebay.I think my original post stemmed from the way Stark's character has been treated lately in Marvel Comics. Don't get me wrong, I really liked Secret Invasion...but CIVIL WAR SUCKED! I hated the mischaracterizations of SO many Marvel classics.I just remember Millar and Bendis using Tony saying things like "Well, when i was an alcoholic..." or "You've had what alcoholics call a 'moment of clarity'.....to me if just seems like taking the past greatness of the character and bending it for shitty storylines.
So ends my original geek out. That all said, I thought the first IRON MAN was the shit. And I LOVE what Marvel is doing with their movie universe...minus the obvious (Fantastic Four, Elektra, X-Men 3, that shitty Captain America movie, uhhhhm...what else was shit? Oh...the Wolverine flick will suck. And the Ang Lee Hulk. Stop it! it was shit) -
Yeah I am really hoping they go beyond the whole Hi-Tech Villian everytime thing. What Villian groups like A.I.M.? I would love to see those yellow jumpsuits on screen!
-
Her tits just keep getting better and better.
-
So I take it the Mandarin is somewhat supernatural, and that's why they're not using him? Interesting - since they'll have to go supernatural anyway when they'll be merging his universe with Thor's for the Avengers, it seems to me like they should go ahead and start moving in that direction with Iron Man 2. Especially if the guy is his arch nemesis, surely they could tone down his "out there" nature to get him to work. At least it seems like it would be more interesting than Iron Monger Part Deux or whatever the next Robo-Suit guy is. Oh well, I loved Iron Man so I'll give Favreau the benefit of the doubt on this one.

As fans like ourselves get ready for the second Iron Man film we're forgetting (save but one poster thus far) that Iron Man's enemy is himself. Tony Stark is fascinating in that he's not really a likable guy. He works in an industry that so many either don't understand or outright loathe. What's more he's an alcoholic and a womanizer. In the first Iron Man film, these traits were dressed up almost James Bond style. For the second film I want Favreau to go dark and remind us that for all Stark's superior tech, his human flaws hinder his better intentions.

Also Kate Beckinsale is 200% right for Black Widow (nerd moment)
by blindambition238
She's fluent in Russian, used to wielding firearms in black tight leather, and gorgeous.
Also, since Natascha is suppose to be Dynamo's assistant, it'll be revealed that shes on an undercover op with the FSB. They could have Beckinsale pull off the bookish nerdy look as well to throw off the audience.
Finally Hillary Swank would also make a good Maria Hill since she can act and has about the same jawline too.
Faverau and Nolan can have a friendly competition to see how many Oscar winners and nominees they can stuff into their casts... -
I don't mind seeing Crimson Dynamo (although I actually hope it is the Titanium Man, one step tougher than Iron Man), Black Widow and Justin Hammer in one film, but I hope for the third one they bring in the Mandarin. We have already seen the foreshadowing for him in the first one with the terrorist organization 'The 10 Rings". lets have someone actually mention a mysterious terrorist/criminal named the Mandarin in the next one, and in the third you can break him out.
Prediction: Rockwell will be Justin Hammer, but Hammer will be more like the Obediah Stane in the comics: a ruthless rival of Stark's who must win at all cost.
Other prediction: That in one of the next two Iron Man movies he will face not one, or two, but a bunch of guys in armors based on his. Kind of like when he fought the Raiders or Mandroids. I mean if Iron Man has already fought a bigger version of his armor, that only leaves him fighting multiple armor wearers. Its kind of like Kung-Fu movies: the hero either fights a guy bigger than himself or else a bunch of kung fu fighters at once. -
I think Rourke would make an awesome bad guy, he's so well built he looks like he could take on the Iron Man suit without a suit of his own! I hope this turns out to be true!
-
If it's by a few hours, I understand. But holy shit balls on a bike. Come on, AICN. You're marginally better than this.

They might merge Justin Hammer with Obediah's son...
by blindambition238
...Ezekiel Stane- who came back in a big way the past 2 years in Iron Man comics and The Order which was basically like an Iron Man spin-off.
He was like a younger, more deranged, but possibly more brillant version of Tony who develops a bio-mechanical version of Iron Man tech that's intergrated into human physiology. Effectively Iron Man version 2.0
Since it would be cliche to add him in and out of left field since the first movie made no mention of him, I could see them using that template for Justin Hammer. It would make more sense considering Rockwell's age (if thats who he is indeed playing), and make him more of a direct rival that just a crusty old tycoon. -
Come on this guy has always been a joke. His presence his cool on screen, but the fucker cant act. Never could, he sucked in Angel Heart & SinCity! If they give him the oscar this year I will puke, might as well of gave it to Stallone for ROCKY! IronMan 2 will suck now! I can save my $$!

There are some that are okay, like Crimson Dynamo, Mandarin, et al, but most of them are pretty unmemorable. Probably the most interesting one was that gene splicer guy from the Extremis reboot; at least he was scary. Speaking of which, that book would actually make a pretty awesome movie.
-
Everyone KNOWS that. Apart from that, yeah, LaserPants is right. Not a lot of memorable villains.
This is good news, otherwise. Hopefully over the next year we won't hear something dumb, like Mandarin will appear only as a swarm or a cloud of nanoparticles. -

although Pepper was in peril for a few moments at the end, she was never actually kidnapped. So Favreau has avoided the old Mary Jane-gets-kidnapped-again thing that Sam Raimi used in every Spider Man film. So now, if Pepper DOES get taken, the emotional stakes are higher. Because if you're like me, when Venom kidnapped MJ in SM3, I was like, "just kill her already."

So he wouldn't be in this.

but the fact that he's a man who got plastic surgery for what I don't think was reconstructive reasons, takes a bit away from his bad assed-ness.

He's one of the few actors who has the charisma to go toe-to-toe with Downey. I'd love to see him cast as Justin Hammer (porn star name?) and come back as the main villain for I3.
-
I've read INVINCIBLE IRON MAN writer Matt Fraction and Jon Favreau have had conversations involving IRON MAN 2: IRON HARDER, so it wouldn't surprise me if Rockwell is playing Ezekiel Stane, son of Jeff Bridges' Obidiah Stane. Fraction's "The Five Nightmares" was a great story arc so here's hoping Favreau mines it for IRON MAN 2.

When discussing great Mickey Rourke performances. That's a crime. The guy tore himself to pieces to get that performance out. Anyway; cool to see Rourke and Downey, the two great Hollywood resurrections of modern times, squaring off. Their years in the wildnerness have been the greatest tragic losses to my cinematic generation, and it's a relief to know they're settled.

1. Sam Rockwell and Justin Hammer both porn names.
2. I'm looking forward to the non-special effects, acting scenes. Downey and Rockwell? Downey and Rourke?
3.Mandarin needs to be handled carefully because the original character will not go over well now... they seem to be doing that.
4. Yeah! Stark vs. a bunch of armored dudes. Armor wars!
5. I hope the film ends with Stark sitting in an alley, scruffy beard, with a cheap bottle of booze in a paper bag and Rhodes suiting up. -
Like in "Eastern Promises". Russian gangsters are presently the nastiest creatures on the planet; Mickey will do them proud. Let him be MarvCubed!

So conflicted; Iron Man villians are terrible, but Rourke and Rockwell are awesome. I'm just excited to see them both join Downey in the same movie. Hopefully they will all have a good script to work with.

Maybe even the Titainum man will show up. Bring it on!

as a young man, he had lips like thin leather straps. Now he looks like 'Lips' from Dick Tracey, slurpin down his horrible oysters. -
He and RDJ could try and out cool/suave each other
-
My money would be on the Dynamo with the Mandarin pulling the strings in the sequel. They mention the Dynamo many times in the behind the scenes stuff on the DVD, became Iron Monger, and the Mandarin was hinted at with the "10 Rings" stuff thye did in the desert. I wouldn't be surprised to have the Mandarin develop the Dynamo and use an ex-Russian agent to don the armor. They'll keep the Mandarin more real though, no alien stuff, he'll use Stark's tech and Chinese/Soviet stuff to make it work.
-
They're going to make a gradual transition to that world with each movie I think he said.
-
Wasn't that the call sign of the USAF fighter pilot that tried to take Iron Man out in aerial combat?
-
No one on Earth will give you safety when FING FANG FOOM strikes!
-
Who gives a shit? Do you truly think that anyone will think "wait a minute, wasn't he the evil genius in Charlie's Angels?" - of course not. I highly doubt that very many people that will go to IM2 will have either seen Charlie's Angels, or at the very least admit to it. Furthermore, using that logic, does that mean that Crispin Glover can no longer play a villain since he also played one in Charlie's Angels??
-
Rourke is an awesome choice! Whatever villain he plays, he will be a great foil.
But Rockwell is too similar to Downey. Both so louche. It would be like having Julia Roberts against rival Kyra Sedgwick. -
What is it that is supposed top be dripping out of that guys eye, the guy with the model boy hair in the upper left corner?

I think they're treating Justin Hammer as an evil Tony Stark. Like a mirror copy. In order to combat the press that Stark gets with Iron Man, Hammer creates the Crimson Dynamo as his corporate mascot. Rourke is playing a Russian who wears the Dynamo armor.
Black Widow is in it as well, apparently. She works for Stark and probably steals some of the IM designs in order to have them incorporated into Dynamo. Since she's Russian as well, Hammer must have some connection to Russia. Hammer is probably under the influence of the Mandarin as well.
I would have liked to see Hammer employ several villains. Like he did with Beetle, Blizzard, and Whiplash. I wouldn't mind seeing the hero fight several villains. Just don't develop the villains. They work for Hammer. That's all we need to know. I don't care about their origins. Who knows? Maybe Rourke does play Whiplash, but after the IM plans are stolen, he's given an upgrade to Crimson Dynamo. -
looks like Peter Cushing (ol' Grand Moff himself).

although i repsect rourke and samwell and i am glad that they are in the movie, frankly i cant say i am happy with what i have heard about the movie until now,
howard was replaced (why i wonder...??),i havent heard anything about war machine being at all in this movie (and i dont think he will be),the new villains dont impress me and ofcoure mandarin is missing.
now spymaster and the ghost, were great IM villains.i would like to see them in this sequel rather than another replay of a battle between armors and a rivarly between 2 businessmen.
we have seen that already in the first movie, could we please move on to something new and differnet?
about natasha.beckinsale is a great babe for this roll, but i would prefer someone a bit more athletic, natural redhead and with a curvier butt.i dont know what actress could apply to the above characteristics, but i know some pornstars that they do :P
anyway lets see what the future is going to bring us -
when discussing Mickey Rourke?
You named nearly every film he made except his two best... do you even watch movies? -
That would be... terrible.
-
It died the moment someone signed off on Frank "Career Implosion" Miller's THE SPIRIT.
-
Man, that cartoon picture looks like Peter Cushing.
-
wah wah

His performance as Marv should be rated along side John Travolta as one of the great comebacks.
-
He's a marginally talented mush faced racist who blamed the L.A. riots on Spike Lee. He's got some chops as an actor but as a human being he's completely worthless. This isn't some small character part. This is a big budget studio tentpole flick. He will blow it and he will be a huge pain in Favreau's ass.
-
No fucking way did Mummy 3 do the Mandarin of Fing Fang Foom just because it had a Chinese magic user and a dragon for five seconds. That movie was SHIT. The Mandarin can be cool. Don't fuck up and leave out the fantasy from Marvel. X3 still sucks shit for leaving out real Sentinels and the Shi'ar Empire. The bitches who cannot take fantasy in a fucking comic book action movie series can eat shit and die. I have spoken, make it so.
-
one vote from from me,for fing fang foom. its like a medieval-fantasy battle: an armored hero,a knight, versus a dragon.
but pleast dont have finga fon foom wearing panties like in the comics.jesus. -
I am so happy that Mickey Rourke is making such a wonderful comeback. I thought he was incredible in ANGELHEART and THE YEAR OF THE DRAGON, and of course, he stole the show in SIN CITY. His newest film, THE WRESTLER, may be his greatest performance to date, and certainly deserves the Oscar for best actor. If dreams can come true, then I hope that we will eventually see him play the aging Bruce Wayne/Batman in an adaption of THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS. My dream cast would also have to include Ray Liotta or Willem Dafoe as the Joker because an older Joker would be the only way to recast the part after Heath Ledger's amazing performance.
-
He was great with Eric Roberts in The Pope of Greenwich Village and he was great as Marv(even though I always pictured Bruce Willis when I read the comic). He's a douche in real life but he's a pretty talented guy and I guess he deserves credit if the Wrestler is everything people say it is. Don't really see him as Batman though. I just don't see him as an aged billionaire playboy, philanthropist, racecar driver Paul Newman type that Bruce has become in his senior years. I'd go with Mel Gibson or Kurt Russell.

HE WEARS PURPLE PANTS!
FING FANG FOOM!
HIS MOTHER DID THE NASTY WITH A SUGGESTIVE BARREL OF NUCLEAR WASTE!
FING FANG FOOM!
IS A MALE WITH NO APPARENT GENITALS!
FING FANG FOOM!
YOU CAN'T IMAGINE HOW ANNOYED HE IS!

If Iron Man fights another villian in an iron suit that's all this movie will be. whiplash is a better choice than crimson dynamo, but not going with Mandarin is just stupid. Like other posters have stated he's the perfect contrast to Stark.
-
I'm boycotting the film. BOYCOTTING!!!! To delete this detail would shatter the entire meaning of the story. Just like changing the retarded giant squid from the end of Watchmen into something that makes sense and that people can relate to in terms of current fears would shatter the meaning of that story. sarcasm
-
safe boring and predictable just so the people can relate to it. why challenge them or take a risk.
-
i need to bitch about how horrible that's can be. tyrese..what a joke.
-
Although Downey Jr was good he was let down by the rest of the movie. I would get rid of Favreu straight away. Anytime I see Iron Man I just think "computer generated"
-
Samuel L. Jackson, too. Fuck.
-
I think that would be a horrible casting decision... also I can't see The Dark Knight Returns ever being turned into a film.
-
..Nolan did it 15-20 years from now with Bale. Especially since the general public now only know "The Dark Knight" as the second film in their franchise. Doing it with a different older actor now would just confuse the hell out of people even moreso than putting Batman in a JLA movie because people would automatically assume it is was a sequel to TDR. Then you'd have to explain to them that it's not a sequel but based on a graphic novel from the 80's you'd just get confused looks and apathy from them. Though I could see Nolan's Batman naturally progressing into the DKR world sans Superman of course. Unless they end up putting Bale in the Justice League movie. Either way, as far as an older Bruce Wayne goes Mickey Rourke ain't it. The Dark Knight Returns would be a pretty cool movie 15 years from now since it's got Two-Face and The Joker as it's main villains. Aaron Eckhart will still be around 15 years from now I'm sure. All Nolan would have to do to set the stage is put Catwoman in his third movie and bring back Harvey. As long as Bale agrees to be in JLA then there's a way to tie Superman in too. As far a Carrie Kelly goes she could be Robin but in the movie continuity she'd be the 1st one. None of this will ever happen but it's the only way DNR could ever feasibly be done.
