Fe Fi Fo Fum... DJ Caruso smells the blood of an Englishman!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I'm of the opinion that DJ Caruso is a great shooter. He knows how to put a flick together and pull great performances out of his cast. Sometimes the scripts he directs aren't... completely there, but when the material is right he gives us movies like SALTON SEA and the incredibly fun, but underseen BLACK CAT RUN (scripted by Frank Darabont). Looks like his next project post-EAGLE EYE will be JACK THE GIANT KILLER, according to this story on Variety, which I would assume means Y: THE LAST MAN isn't quite ready yet. Darren Lemke wrote the script and it seems to be a adult look at the fairy tale, which is already fucking creepy by itself. What's interesting is that it doesn't look like they're trying to modernize it. It still appears to be set in a land of princesses and brave young farmers ready to rescue said princesses from big bad giants. Could be a fun flick. Be interesting to see how the cast fills out. Who wants him to bring Michael Chiklis over from EAGLE EYE and their collaboration on THE SHIELD to play a giant (or at least a booming voice)? Maybe I'm alone there...

will always be my favorite version of Jack and The Beanstalk
-
The Beef being cast as Jack, he could even wear the same outfit from indy4.
-
I'd love to see it. It would be crazy.
-
Jack of Fables? Now that would be awesome movie material...check out the stories even if it isn't...it's the shit.
-
Michael Chiklis as the giant ??!! I'm with you on that.......
-
But there is a part in here for Keira Knightley I feel.
-
Maybe Caruso is Jack expelled from the home lands and he is making this movie so Jack will become more popular with the Mundes therefore making himself more powerful.
-
Of the 60's movie then they'll be no beanstalk in site but plenty of monsters.
-
At first I mis-read the title and thought it said David Caruso, not DJ Caruso, and I was worried Mr. Jade was going to be a giant on top of a beanstalk. (Which could still happen, I guess.)<p>On a completely unrelated note, seeing that Paul Blart: Mall Cop ad taking the place of my Busted Tees shirts girls makes me think: Is this movie the new "Who's Harry Crumb?" Discuss.

...but got interrupted about half an hour or so from the end...and just didn't care enough to finish it.
-
Jerky stop-motion animation and all!

like poop

. . . was this creepy Japanese animated version of Jack & The Beanstalk. The Giant was going to marry a human girl, who Jack had to save. The Giant's wicked mother was cutting out paper people to attend his wedding. It creeped me out big time. Jack had a dog w/ him. Anybody else see this or did I dream it?
-
...you're talking about.
-
...be calling it. Not as creepy as I was hoping for I must say. It's like Japanese animators trying to ape a Disney look...and failing miserably in vague but very important ways. I wonder if it's creepy to Japanese people when American animation tries to look all anime now...
-
and Black Cat Run, because Caruso's other films that I have seen have been terrible (Taking Lives and the poorly done Rear Window remake).
-
and Mickey Mouse as Jack.
-
... who really, really, REALLY liked EAGLE EYE, so I can't wait to see this.
-
I was waiting for someone to actually do it.
-
He's a hack
-
Chiklis as the Giant would be awesome. You know it to be true.
-
I guess going in, knowing the twist, I was prepared but what I wasn't ready for was just how great he can film Action sequences. The car chases were perfect. I really enjoyed that movie and I love the Salton Sea, saw it with my wife in theatres and rewatched it a few months ago and it still looks great on a Upconverted Blu Ray player. Truly sharp movie. Too bad his other output kinda blew, haven't seen the Run Dark Cat whatever but will check it out. Seriously though, if you can give Transformers and WANTED (holy piece of crap) Eagle Eye is so far ahead of those flicks.
-
Cuz he frakkin owns man. Watch the Shield, or don't whatever, he's great. Guess he's not pretty enough for you.

Eagle Eye would have been much better with Chiklis in the Thornt
by ev1ldead
a good script wouldn't have hurt either.

This doesn't sound like Jack and the Bean Stalk. This sounds like that film from the guy that brought us Sinbad/7 Voyages/CofT. The giants in this film were not the scariest thing, it was the demon sorcerer and his conjurations at his castle that were the scariest. Maybe I'm completely off on this one, but I distinctly remember this film.
-
The giant was named tulip and he had all the brains that name implies. The witch was creepy.
-
... it was alright and I think DJ Caruso is someone who is going to make some very interesting films over the next decade. <p> Less of the beef, though, DJ.
-
It was my first experience w/ Japanese animation as well as my first trip to a theater. As a wee lad, it gave me the creeps.
-
You just know Caruso's gonna cast him in this. I'm just throwing out the word that we don't want him headlining movies. Remember, we the talkbackers at AICN make shit happen or in this case not happen. Discuss...
-
Could work, maybe?
-
The one the giants in the BFG were all shit scared of.
-
I did it for Eagle Eye, I can do it for this.
-
version. Gilligan being chased by a giant Skipper? LOL!
-
I mean its a given right?
-
but not great. Needed a villain other then a super computer. Disturbia was also just ok...great suspense but the script wasn't all there.
-
I want Michael Chiklis to have a role in any movie and every movie. (Yeah I'm an obsessive fan of The Shield...deal with it.)
-
just sayin
-
"His name is Jack. Jack Rabbit!" <br><br> "You are Jack and you know this because it is a fact." <br><br> "I guess I'll have to open with a pair of Jacks."
-
Cause Supersize Midgets Kick Ass. Fuck RockNStoneMan from Fantastic 4. Fuck that fucking fuck. Too predictable he can go clober a johnson! MiniBigMe would kick ass! Steve Buscemi for Jack.
-
...the Hitchcock tip of the hat in the climactic final orchestra scene. It almost felt like the whole movie was only the buildup to that scene. The story and screenplay built on the sci-fi reveal premise was a bridge too far and the movie lost me. The long car chase was pretty good though. It obviously aped the Paul Greengrass Bourne flicks, but Caruso managed to get the geography in the action scenes down and was coherent throughout, unlike some other action directors (I'm looking at YOU Michael Bay).

hmm <br> <br> <br> this sounds kinda lame
