Murder!! Death!! Kill!! H2 Is Ramping Up!!

Published at: Jan. 6, 2009, 2:33 p.m. CST

Merrick here...
Spoiler TV has a collection of casting sides revealing what kind of characters we'll be seeing in Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN sequel (H2), and how some will meet their fates. I may be going out on a limb here, but I'll bet Michael has something to do with their deaths. Is that too spoilery? You can find said list HERE. Meanwhile, seems Danielle Harris will reprise 'Annie', a character introduced in Zombie's progenitor film, per THIS ARTICLE at Bloody DIsgusting. Danielle actually joined the HALLOWEEN franchise back in 1988 when she played Michael Meyers' niece in THE RETURN OF MICHAEL MEYERS (she's a different character in Zombie's films).

...the audience gets hurt. The first one was so horrendously awful. Zombie doesn't get Myers at all. You don't tell pure evil's dysfunctional back story. What a joke. I'll be skipping this one. And I didn't even skip Halloween III.

    Sad

    by Samuel Fulmer

So Zombie makes a terrible Halloween remake that barely makes more than the original film made in 1978, and now there's going to be a sequel. Is Bernie Madoff running Hollywood? I could see if it was an artistic or financial success to make another one.

  • Jan. 6, 2009, 2:46 p.m. CST

Is is too obvious to say this?

    by timmer33

To humanize a villain --- as a child, no less --- detracts from the horror/fear that we're supposed to feel. Lucas did this with the prequels. Zombie did this with HALLOWEEN. Stop humanizing the villain!!!

  • Jan. 6, 2009, 2:46 p.m. CST

    zombie humanized him too much

    by zom-bot.com

now he's no longer scary. never show the face behind the mask, never show what made someone 'evil'. carpenter's intention was to have as little backstory as possible, making michael more of an unstoppable force than a A&E special on abused children becoming psychos.

  • Jan. 6, 2009, 2:46 p.m. CST

    By that I mean ...

    by timmer33

Making us feel sympathy for the child Michael Myers was a dumb mistake on Zombie's part. Terrible film.

    by I Dunno

The whole point of Michael Myers was that he was the kid next door. A suburban kid with loving parents who just up and killed his sister. Is that as realistic as the remake's take on the story, where Michael was an abused redneck? Well no, that's why it's a horror movie and not an episode of "Cops".

    Rob Zombie's next 6 years

    by ThePilgrim

Halloween 2- Plot Laurie hides out at a the Rabbit in Red Strip Club shortly after the closing event of Part 1- Feast/Mist like Plot. <P> The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto- comes out shortly after H2 <P> Rob Writes and Directs Bigfoot. Name might change, base on his comic, same plot. Kid's parents are killed while camping by a bigfoot. Kid escapes is found a few days later- tells the tale- woods are search nothing found- kid grows up, another attack happens in the same woods- kid who is no an adult- returns to the woods to find and kill bigfoot. <P> T-Rex is next. Washed up wrestler goes after a biker gang that attacked and killed his family. <P> Then Werewolf Women of The SS. <P>Then a Traveling Carnival Freakshow Horror Movie- Might be called "CARNELEVARE"<P> Take Todd Browning's "Freaks" mix it with Tobe Hooper's "Funhouse" add you some Victor Salvia "Clownhouse" and inject Zombie's crazy style, vibe, vision, and you're pretty close to the films plot structure and feel. <P> A kid sneaks out to the towns annual carnival in the trunk of his sisters boyfriends car. <P> He witnesses a bum being murdered and eaten by one of the "Freaks". He is caught by the Carnival Owner. Somehow he manages to escape. They have his wallet- so it doesn't matter. The boy tracks his sister down, she's at a party. He tells her what happened. No one believes him. The Freaks are dispatched after them. <P> Halloween 3- Like the original the story has nothing to do with Michael Myers. It might be like a horror collection like Creepshow and include 3 tales.

Just saw Zombie's Halloween the other day

    by ELGordo

And it was pretty bad. The guy has no restraints and has everyone screaming and cursing like sailors all the time. I don't particularly like the original but I like how subtle it is. The remake is anything but. One thing that I think Zombie would be perfect for as a director would be Faster Pussycat Kill Kill, where every character is some sort of egotistical bad ass and screams allot.

    Another Zombie Craptacular

    by MaxDembo1

Zombie's remake of Halloween was pathetic and showed zero understanding of what made the original work. This sequel will be more of same. His "original vision," amounts to nothing more than vulgar language and truly repulsive violence. The fact that this man has a huge fanbase only speaks to how debased and ignorant our culture has become.

No point watching it, since we all already know EXACTLY what's going to happen. I'd call Rob Zombie a one-trick director, but since he stole that trick from Tobe Hooper, he doesn't even get that.<P> Give him a guest spot doing a Hallowe'en special for MY NAME IS EARL then tell him to FUCK OFF! No discernible talent whatsoever.

    by spud mcspud

Making lots of movies about how morality doesn't exist and how ugly life really is and how we misunderstand psychos, they're really just families like the rest of us, yadda yadda whatever the fuck - it doesn't make you some existentialist / nihilist badass, just a sick child who probably liked pulling the wings off of daddy longlegs and enjoys seeing sick shit on screen. Not in service of a story or anything - just sick shit for the sake of sick shit.<P> Go remake FACES OF DEATH, if you must keep working, then fuck off...

    by mojoman69

HAlloween was a piece of shit. Laughably bad in fact. I liked zombies other flicks, especially Devil's Rejects, but this was just bad. Micheal Myers should be a force of evil not just a run of the mill serial killer. By demistifying the character, a great deal was lost. i am not above a remake on Halloween, but as far as I can see it is yet to be made.

Halloween 2 sucked the first time around

    by I am_NOTREAL

Seriously, I just watched it again and it's absolute crap. Don't know if the rumors about Carpenter actually directing some of it are true or not, but if he did, it didn't help. Everything about it sucks, and sucks badly, with the possible exception of the gratuitous T&A in the hot tub scene. So there's a chance, however small, that Zombie may make something that actually isn't markedly worse than its predecessor, because that would be very, very, very hard to do.

  • Jan. 6, 2009, 8:34 p.m. CST

Loved the first one. Can't wait for this sequel.

    by LoneGun

I know that I am in a very tiny minority, almost alone, in my appreciation for Zombie's HALLOWEEN. But I don't care. I think his films rock. John Carpenter's original HALLOWEEN remains a great classic, but I love seeing Zombie's twisted take on the mythology and iconography of it.

  • Jan. 6, 2009, 8:44 p.m. CST

    Rob Zombie gives me hope...

    by NeoMyers

...because if his "talent" can keep getting him hired in Hollywood, I can make it there too. Oh, and by talent I mean the ability to take my favorite horror movie and make me cry thinking about how he took the original property, bent it over an oil drum and fucked it in the ass with a splintery broom stick.

  • Jan. 6, 2009, 8:57 p.m. CST

I did not realize Danielle Harris was in the remake

    by smackfu

I have a tremendous amount of nostalgia for Halloween 4. The first movie was a classic, and I loved it as a kid, but when I saw Halloween 4 in the theaters it rocked my world. It was the only Halloween movie to really focus on his relentlessness; where most of the movies focus on a series of standard throwaway teenagers getting killed one by one, most of this movie was spent with Michael relentlessly pursuing one person to great effect. It took the best things from H1 and 2 and improved upon them, imo it was the peak of the series.

    Everybody knows...

    by Darth Macchio

Is it weird how there is so much in life that "everybody knows" but yet here we are day after day, having to reiterate to ambitious people thinking outside of their own box that this is actually shit and not a "new" take?<p>Nolan knew it and specifically screwed with expectations with his Joker and it worked perfectly (You wanna know how I got these scars?).<p>Zombie and Grand Admiral Lucas think they know better and totally demystified what made those particular villains so great in the first place. I haven't seen Zombie's fliq but try as I might, it is hard to forget the pussified mega-whiney Annie-Vader from the prequels when viewing the OT.<p>But again, my guess is most people thinking longer than the time it takes to say "That would be fucking awesome dude!" realize that completely showing why The Shape/Myers kills people is like buggering yourself with a splintery plunger handle with no KY and then trying to convince people it's the new version of auto-erotic asphyxiation. Or something like that. Yeah.

    Halloween remake ruined my day

    by MattmanReturns

One of the few movies to actually ruin my day. I wasn't even angry after I saw it, I was just despondent for the remainder of the day. It was so soulless and wrong. The whole redneck family as an explanation for why Michael goes bad just missed the entire point of the original. The Laguna Beach version of Laurie Strode was woefully unsympathetic. I liked McDowell until he uttered that "as a matter of fact, I DO BELIEVE it was" line. And then Michael gets shot repeatedly in the face by Laurie and it just ends there without any of the chill factor of the original. Really depressing.

  • Jan. 7, 2009, 11:58 a.m. CST

    Darth Macchio, Nolan's Joker

    by MattmanReturns

Good point on Nolan's Joker. He was scary because there was no explanation for him. Michael Myers was scary because he just decided to murder his sister one day, and there was no reason for it. I don't need some redneck family screaming obscenities at each other to explain away why "The Shape" is evil.

  • Jan. 7, 2009, 12:32 p.m. CST

    Exact;y...and...

    by Darth Macchio

Remember the look on Loomis's face? After he pumps 6 bullets into Myers sending him off the balcony in Carpenter's original? He sees Myers on the ground unmoving; he turns away and checks on Laurie and then a moment later he looks again and Myers is gone? That look Donald Pleasance gave is just perfect. Even in the second one when Myers just walks thru that glass door. Myers as unstoppable evil, violence personified, is simply beautiful. To do anything else is to miss entirely, the point Carpenter was trying to make and the very essence of the story.

  • Jan. 7, 2009, 6:10 p.m. CST

    This sucks.

    by WhinyNegativeBitch

I tolerated Halloween as a necessary financial proving hurdle for Zombie before he went off to make something interesting like The Nail. Why the fuck is he screwing around with a sequal. It's not going to make as much money. Should have used to momentum to make something fans actually want to watch. Like the fucking nail for instance.
