We knew it was coming... Fox aims to halt WATCHMEN's release...
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. We don't typically follow legal crap here and we've already made the exception on WATCHMEN because it might affect the release date.
Now Fox's lawyers have officially said they're asking to stop the release. It was always speculation, but they're legally asking for it now and they may get it. The AP article also has a comment from Warners saying they want a trial (set now for January 20th) and don't believe Fox owns the rights they are claiming to and says a settlement isn't an option for them at the moment.
Of course, this could all be political horse manure, posturing by both sides so they can work on a settlement... who knows, but it's the latest bit of information on the case, which now looks to be trying to derail the release. If Warners doesn't budge and Fox keeps its word, we might not be seeing Watchmen come March.
I don't think we're going to cover ever twist and turn this thing takes, but this seemed to be a major revelation to me about Fox's intentions or, at the very least, how much hardball they're preparing to play.
This about sums up my feelings on the situation:

-
wolverine may be an awesome movie but fuck em.
-
please???
-
my pitiful life remains unfulfilled.
Fuck Watchmen!! What about my fragile ego??? -
...this movie will come out on schedule, one way or the other. Either Fox loses the case, or a deal is made. No one who stands to make money here wants this thing to get shelved.
-
Why bullshit, Harry?
-
the more I think fox wouldn't dare block teh release for real. If they seriously do this every studio in LA will be pull in all their deals. Because if one studio is willing to fuck over anoteh ron a simple distribution deal then every little "fuck you" term of a contract will be enforced and eveyr studio will stop working with each other.
-
As BrooseTheScharuk noted. It's just a matter of whether WB has to give FOX any money or not.
-
What they fuck do they have to gain by stopping the relase?
Mother Fuckers! -

by logicalnoise01
I enjoyed the book and I think it could be a great movie but the non-geeks aren't getting it. It won't be a date movie and within a week a more mainstream movie will be able to knock it down to number 6.
-
...let's boycott that gay-ass Wolverine movie they have coming out.
-
I kind of want Fox to stop the Watchmen. I never think they should have made it. Never should have given it Snyder. Never should have cast the black of charisma that is Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Never should have made it look EXACTLY like the comic book (hey look fanboys it's an EXACT panel by panel recreati...zzzzzzzzzzzzz). I'm sure it's just hard ball to take a serious chunk of change from WB. But wouldn't it be fascinating if they did actually kill the movie? I wouldn't cry. Sorry. And while you're at it...if you could kill the Suspiria remake, the Birds remake, and the Crow remake...thanks. Usually Fox sucks. We hate you Tom. But this time, the dickhead is doing something I like. Even if it's for the wrong reasons.
-
They can't make a good movie themselves, and now they are disallowing other studios from doing so. I know they are well within their legal rights, but I really hoped these assholes could have worked things out.
Burn, FOX, Burn. I will hearby ONLY watch pirated FOX films, or not watch them at all.
Fin -
they wouldn't dare to delay the release... there's just too much money on the line...
-
And have it be about the life of Rupert Murdoch
-
Did you read the same article on Cracked.com that I did?
-
I must say... The years of anticipation, speculation, and production, the sums of money and the talents involved, the hopes and dreams, and now the current legal maelstrom leading to the film's ultimate fate aside -- even if it's never released -- it's all been worth it so I could see this Bullshit clip.
Thanks for that. -
Really hard.
-
If you think Fox is acting on anything other than the thought process of a 3 year old who hasn't learned how to share, then you're in complete denial. Fox will try everything it can to stop this movie from happening; it will get shelved, and then fox will try to make its own version. Anything, anything than admit it can't make a good movie out of this property. This isn't legal maneuvering, this is the start of a seriously FUCKED UP move by an ugly, ugly old man.
-
thank you that was the best laugh I've had all day. b ut it should be about tom rothman. Or both
-
Rid the world from another pointless video game movie!
-
all 2009 releases can wait until DVD, if i'm feeling generous...
who's with me?
p.s. if i get sum "Dear Fox, EAT ALL THE DICKS" t-shirts made, who want one? -
I agree with a boycott. I love Wolverine. I collected every Wolverine comic from the early 80's to the mid 90's and would still be willing to boycott that movie because of this bullshit. Fox has been spewing out shit after shit and passing it off as entertainment just to collect out ten dollars. We keep giving it to them. We should boycott just to stop these jackoffs from shitting onto 35mm film and calling it a movie. Boycott all these out of touch assholes. Fuck Hollywood. Go independent.
-
FUCK THEM! THEY FUCKED WITH THE WRONG GEEKS ON THIS ONE.
-
With his Sex Magics!!
-
I remember at the Dark Knight midnight showing, someone in the theater made a joke after the Watchmen trailer that it should go directly to video and tons of people laughed. I commented to the guy sitting next to me in a JUSTICE LEAGUE t-shirt that it was exciting to see it coming to the screen and he said "well, those were cool special effects at least..." He had no idea what Watchmen was. I just don't see this movie (is that the one with the naked blue guy?) catching on with the mainstream. But I hope I'm wrong about that.
-
>glances at DVD sales of 'Dark Knight'<
If Warner wanted to give Fox the 'big middle finger & rotate' approach, with the usual DVD double-dipping/multiple retailer exclusives, it could probably still eke out a profit. -
Who cares if mainstream does not want to see it. We do. BOYCOTT!
-
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAAAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Fuck The watchmen.
That is all. -
What is that "Bullshit!" clip from?

Fox has been trying to halt the release this entire time
by dapper swindler
They've refused to settle at any price. It may be just negotiating malarky, but at one point they have to admit "nah, we're just joshin' you now cough up the $$$" I've yet to hear this, and it has me worried that maybe fox really does just want to prevent this film from being released for whatever reason.
-
OOOOOOO i did not think of that. We will all pay for a non fox film tickets and sneak into Avatar!
-
From the amazingly awkward, but still incredible Return of Captain Invincible starring Alan Arkin and Christopher Lee. It's a musical comedy superhero movie... and you may think Brad Bird picked up a thing or two from it when conceiving of The Incredibles.
-
wizened old money-grabbing bastard murdoch and his retarded offspring. Considering his position and influence, truly one of the few people in history the world would be a better place without.
-
I suspect they're all Browncoats, really.
-
Fox wants to release the Batman TV show on DVD. Warners doesn't want the campy series to "tarnish" the Nolan franchise. This is according to some comics professionals with word on the inside.
-
We're not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with us.
-
Because people don't like good stories? Please. Geeks don't have a monopoly on quality. In fact, I know PLENTY of people who are interested in this who haven't even picked up a comic book in their lives. Which is as good a reference point as "people in the theater I were in laughed when someone made a joke about it." If the movie is good, and it has a solid marketing campaign, then it will succeed. Plain and simple. I'll be bummed as all hell if Fox blocks the release of this movie, even if I don't believe they will actually go through with it. So here's to hoping they can all stop being dicks and work something out like human beings.
-
Says Alan Moore.
-
Not 100% sure where we'll get all the dicks from. Maybe surgical waste.
-
Watchmen will sit in a vault while two titanic companies/egos each refuse to give an inch. It becomes the 'Holy Grail' of movies. For years it sits in a vault while fanboys speak of it in revered tones. Is it the greatest superhero movie ever made? Will watching it transform ones life? After years of legal standstill, the movie is finally released to huge buzz and speculation 10 years after it's intended release date. And the verdict is....
-
with a note that says "Eat them all".
-
I'm pissed about this too, but legally Fox is in the right. I remember Moriarty ran a column here once about copyright law being sacrosanct. WB stole somebody else's property, it's not much different than piracy. Obviously Fox generally churns out unadulterated shit, has sat on this project for over a decade, and WB seems proud of the movie they've made. So, you could say artistically that WB is in the right, but legally? No way.
-
That would be nice. Fuck Fox.
-
Fuck American idol fuck house and fuck homer Simpson!
-
This is the perfect thread for your "Who cares..." post.
-
HA! That was one of the DVDs I picked up this year at Cheapo.
I had NO idea what it was whatsoever but it looked cool as hell though. Haven't had time to watch it yet because all my stuff are in boxes, but it just got really high on my must-watch-soon dvd list. -
Rent it, watch it with a buttload of friends, wait for it to air on the F/X channel,
BUT DO NOT PAY MONEY TO SEE IT IN THEATERS.
if Wolverine tanks not only will that pwn Fox, but it will also show how much better Zack Snyder (and 300 Spartans) are than anything Wolverine
either that or WB can just give Fox the rights to the old Batman series DVDs -
I only wish I had more to offer.
-
A) It's going to come out. Too much money on the line, WB and Fox are playing chicken.
B) Everything WATCHMEN is, all the important thematic elements...was covered in THE DARK KNIGHT. The nature of heroism, check. The cause of heroism pushing a good man over the line, check. Heroism forcing a good man to bereviled and hunted by the very world he tries to protect, check. it's all there. Not only that, it was done the right way. Here we have a property that, for once, was able to make superheroes believable in the "real world," and they go and make it look like a damn video game.
C) None of you will go through with your stupid boycott, so quit whining about it. -
How many people (non-fanboys) knew about V for Vendetta before it came out. 0. Zero. Nilch. Nada. Yet everyone I know loves that movie.
-
It may very well benefit Fox more if this film is shelved for good. Warner Bros sunk quite a bit of money into this movie, and is banking on at least 100 million in revenue from it. In the current financial climate, a sunk blockbuster that not only tanks, but makes NO money could very well put a studio under. Compare the few million Fox stands to make if this is all settled out of court compared to the billions it stands to make if it bankrupts a rival studio. Machiavellian shit right there.
-
Lloyd Center Century in Portland Oregon the full film was screened. That screening may become legend.
-
Hey guys, I just checked an article on wikipedia concerning this, and according to it Fox claims to have contacted Warner Brothers back in 2005, and formally filed suit in February of this year advising WB of what was up. Granted wikipedia could be wrong, but if that's not the case it does take some sting out of the Fox waiting to the last minute argument.
-
How many people do you honestly know that would buy that crappy TV show on DVD? Let's be honest, it really wasn't that good to begin with.
And it's completely assinine to think that WB feels that the TV show would "tarnish" the Nolan franchise in any way. WB has no problem selling those piece of shit Schumacher Batman movies. Why would a campy television show from over 40 years ago have more of an effect on Nolan's movies than Schumacher's crapfests? It wouldn't. -
The right that is under dispute is the right to DISTRIBUTE people. WB was fully in the right (as it were) to make this film. What they failed to do was pay off Fox with a million dollars so they would not pursue the idiocy which unfolds before us now.
I for one will be dismayed beyond belief if this film is not released on schedule; my life is a black ball of crap as it is: I can't find a decent, paying job, the one gig I have is a deferred contract - which means I have no idea when they will pay me. What I was holding onto was the notion that next year I would be graced with quality escapist fare to forget about my impending homelessness. But is that happening now? Lord knows.
Fox is in the right, sort of. The fact of the matter is, they did not file the complaint until it was almost too late, and legally that's a problem.
Not that it matters now. I hate this lifetime; wish I could just go to the Karma Coatroom and get a new one. -
and it's totally childish for me to say WHO FUCKING CARES!!!!This is obviously intentional litigation. They sat on their hands with a property for 20 fucking years and didn't say a PEEP until another studio had finished their HIGHLY PUBLICIZED adaptation. Legally, they are in the right, but no matter how you slice it...that's dirty fuckin' pool. I will NOT be seeing ANY new Fox films, television shows or purchasing ANY of their DVDs. Will it make a diff? No, but it WILL make me feel better.
-
if they do this, then im gonna stop seeing fox movies in the theatre... i'll just 'aquire' them instead. if they ever make anything i wanna watch again....
-
I agree with seanny d. So many people i know (non fanboys) are anticipating Watchmen and are now asking me to read my copy of it. Should I give it to them?
-
That will get these cocksuckers' attention. If you must see it, buy a ticket to something else -- preferably a warners' movie, just to fuck with Fox more, then go into WOLVERINE. Fox needs to understand that it's fucking over a lot of its own market, not just Warners.
-
Noone!! Muahahahahaaa
-
Sure hope the movie comes out though.
-
As someone mentioned in one of the other talkbacks on this subject, WB did NOT steal anybody else's property. Warner Brothers has always owned The Watchmen. FOX is simply claiming that it still has the rights to distribute the film. Semantics, some may cry, but the The Watchmen has always been the property of WB.
-
I will not watch WOLVERINE if this goes on.... What else?
-
Stop sittin on the fence and give us your thoughts on a squidless WATCHMEN. Don't be a pussy, man.

You, of course, are right and I probably should not have used such harsh language as "theft." However, the fact remains that legally the film cannot be shown without Fox's permission. This fact also takes some of the sting out of the accusation that Fox "sat on the property for 20 years" if it was never their property to produce in the first place. I'm not fan of Rothman or Murdoch either, but had Fox decided they wanted to distribute a film version of the Watchmen, and so decided to produce a film version of the Watchmen without Warner Bros permission, I'm not so sure WB's response would be much different.
-
What did I just say?

It stems from the studios' differing interpretations of Fox's "changed elements" clause.
Warner Bros. says that Fox has repeatedly failed to exercise its rights over various incarnations of the production. Through producer Lawrence Gordon, Fox had bought the rights to the graphic novel in 1986. Fox alleges that when the project went into turnaround in 1994, a separate 1991 deal that transferred some of the rights to Gordon still gave them the option of retaining distribution and sequel rights to the film, and a share of the profits should it be made by any other studio. Fox's interpretation of the 1994 turnaround deal also meant that Gordon would not fully control the rights until the studio's development costs (estimated by Fox at $1 million) had been reimbursed. Despite originally passing on the project, Fox also alleged that its agreement with Gordon contained a "changed elements" clause, meaning that if Gordon changed any of the key creative personnel on the film, Fox would have first option on participation. The studio said that Gordon did not inform them of Snyder's joining the production in 2005.
Warner Bros. began developing Watchmen in 2005. Fox alleges that it contacted Warner Bros. before production began and told the studio that it had violated Fox's 1991 and 1994 deals with Gordon. Warner Bros. claimed that it was originally unaware of either deal, and that in 2005 Fox had declined to produce the Hayter screenplay that formed the basis of the production, *thereby negating the "changed elements" clause*. Warner Bros. also claimed that the 1994 deal did not cover distribution rights and had conferred upon Gordon all the rights he needed to take the film to Warner Bros. -
Because from what I keep reading I better get a blow job from James Cameron or that CG alien chick while I watch it.
-
will mean precisely the very dick you want Rothman to eat, right? Don't get me wrong, it was an asshole move and I want to see the film too but really, you guys don't have the numbers for an effective boycott. But if it makes you feek better
-
well - here's my take. The 'squid' ending was shocking when written. The problem is - we live in a world where an enormous tragedy has taken place in New York - and the ending of WATCHMEN has been known for over 20 years. I think the filmmaker challenge of adaptation is to raise the SHOCK level of what Ozy does, my understanding is that's been done. Whether or not that involves an enormous CG creature that just lays there dead creating a psychic traumatic event would translate for a larger scale audience... Ultimately - Zach has stuck so precise to so much of the original book and intent, that playing with that event that Ozy enacts is understandable and I look forward to seeing what exactly it all comes down to being.
-
It's just never going to happen.
-
Waiting this long to file lawsuits is pure greed and a total one-finger salute to everyone who was looking forward to the film.
-
thats right, i herefore through my hat into the fight over the rights..WB owes me the movie
-
needs to send Rothman and Murdock each a box of rubber penis like dildos with the note "EAT ALL THE DICKS, SIGNED RORSCHACH." That will show them.
-
I just really wanted to see that thing on the big screen, it'd could've been so fuckin epic. And say what you will, Watchmen was always about it's own structure, without the squid it all just falls apart. What we may get probably will be a great comicbook movie, but that's all it'll be.

Oh, and regarding the plan to boycott Wolverine, why bother? From the trailer it looked like another "Elektra", a straight to DVD quality... don't bother. A young Magneto movie is a lot more interesting
-
From what I've read/heard, there's the possibility that Ozymandias' backstory has been omitted, so that rather than portraying a man pursuing an epic goal spanning centuries, he's simply a misguided Bond villain. If the ending from Hayter's draft is what's in there, its going to diminish the most interesting character. On top of that, at ComicCon the actor mentioned Ozy is "another gay" character in his career, which I've never gotten from the story. These changes concern me most - that spectacle will overtake the emotional complexities that made this story resonate.
-
I mean, I want a good Watchmen adaptation... but I don't have any faith left that Snyder didn't already FUBAR it with his "new and improved for joe sixpack" approach to the actual story... so I'm not even going to fork over any cash to suffer through another thoroughly mediocre Moore adaptation in the theater... but, at the same time, anyone involved with FOX deserves to be repeatedly disemboweled for eternity in the 9th circle of Hell, and so I am rooting for the WB to win this case just out of pure loathing and spite for those asshats Rothman and Murdoch... though I have to admit that I kind of want the movie's release to be postponed just because a compromised version of Watchmen should not be allowed to exist... but then I also want any Watchmen movie to be a roaring success just to piss off the obnoxious anti-Watchmen-fan trolls that skulk around these talkbacks just because they've got nothing better to do. In short, fuck you all, happy new year, you fucking assholes.
-
since these hollowood (no typo) suit types have been begging for your attention this past decade or so; any of them weigh in on this? for other studio productions in the pipeline so to speak with similar obscure legaleze hidden in plain sight?; there is bound to be much worrisome talking about this to some kind of degree, your thoughts please.
-
I don't watch any of their shitty TV shows, and I don't give a shit about sports, so that's two areas in which I'm not complicit with supporting these douchebags, but what else might I be unwittingly buying/viewing that might contribute to their bank accounts? What other kind of stuff would one need to boycott to have a completely FOX-free existence?

-
I mean it's still weeks away from the court date. They are 3 very distinct sides, the who-cares, the got-to-fights, and the we-will-never-see.
I personally think WATCHMEN is a great story much like V. There are elements wrote way back then that still ring very true today, especially if you pay close attention to the paper headlines.
I hope we do get to see WATCHMEN, and I make no bones I hate FOX as much as the free thinking rational man... so call me biased but I hope FOX bites it big... Look at the similarities between FOX and OZY, the giant squid is staring us in the face. -
Always amusing to behold but sad in its uselessness.
-
Fox Searchlight Pictures, Fox 2000 Pictures, Fox Atomic, Fox Faith, 20th Century Fox Television, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment, Fox Movie Channel, FX, National Geographic Channel, SPEED Channel would be a start. And if you really wanted to take the boycott to the extreme, you could boycott any film filmed using Fox facilities.
-
I'd love to see something like this happen. It'd have to be more than talkbacks though.. it'd have to make its way through other movie sites and, (of course), any & all comic retailers.
One of the problems is that Wolverine isn't a viable target. Watchmen is due to open in March, Wolvie in May. Any threat against it is just that.. a threat. If the goal is to get Watchmen released on time, another movie (or movies) with sooner release dates would have to be the targets.. only Fox doesn't exactly have any "tentpoles" coming up. -
Lawrence Gordon FUCKED UP by not executing his buy out option with Fox. Right now, FOX is in a really shitty situation. They've had the single worst executive team in modern film history make turd after turd. Their release slate has been abysmal, with their only strength being their marketing arm which continues to sell shit like Big Macs. Rumors are swirling that they're set for a big shake up at Fox. MEANWHILE - this suit was a no-brainer for them. When you're in your legal rights you protect our property with the utmost - I find it astonishing that Gordon was taking this property around with this monkey on his back - and that anyone made this movie without closing that door. It goes without saying that this movie would have been an unbelievable disaster had it been developed by Rothman, truly the most worthless executive in Hollywood history. That they're trying to tear it down like this - just makes one so incredibly pissed.
BOYCOTTS don't work with FOX - you shouldn't want to see any of their movies till THE INCREDIBLE MR FOX and AVATAR late next year. WOLVERINE will be a disaster - the fighting on that film was far more spectacular off camera - and Rothman's shitprints will be all over it. At this point I'm just waiting for FOX to implode, that won't affect this case - and whatever happens with this case won't save Rothman & crew. If I was the judge in the case, I'd rule that FOX has the right to pay 30% of the marketing and production of WATCHMEN and take an equal stake in the film - and then see if Fox had the sack to take a shared risk in the resulting product. But that's probably just me. -
It takes a really special kind of studio to ruin movies that it doesn't even have a hand in, in addition to the ones they actually do make.
-
Didn't especially get into the graphic novel, so not especially looking forward to the film. If someone other than Zack "Xerox" Snyder were making it, then maybe. No, what interests me far more is the furore that this potential delay is whipping up, especially given that I have met only one person, that's 1, in the whole of the UK who is excited about this film. Seriously, even among the geek community, who actually believes this film will in any way surprise them, or in fact do anything other than mollify or disappoint? I call "Bullshit" too. Not at Fox. At The Watchmen.

That's the only one out of those I'd miss. As for their movies, thank god for the black market.

I for one have had enough of Fox's bullshit. It seems that now they have realised there incapable of making a decent movie themselves they intend to now steal them from others. I not only intend to make sure I never watch another one of their movies, which wont be hard as their past record shows not only are they full of shit but they also produce it!!! I also intend to make it my life’s purpose to bring this sham of a company to its fucking knee's. - Now where did I put Pinky and the Brain......

That talkback entry right there is the greatest thing you have written in years, seriously. We have all heard that Wolverine has the stink of death on it but I liked seeing you verbalize it. At what point do we get the details of what the fighting consisted of?

Yesterday's protest suggestion was to send photos of "Tricky Dick" himself, Fmr. President Nixon, along with dildos, pics of dicks, people sucking and eating dicks, etc. I want to amend that. In exchange for a fan protest, I want something in return from Synder and WB: 1) Release a mutually agreed to "director's cut" to the theaters as opposed to waiting for the usual DVD bullshit, and 2) I WANT THE FUCKING SQUID!!!

You hit the nail square on the head. It's a shitty move from Fox, it really is.

I HOPE IT GETS TO JURY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by illuminate
The Warner Brothers Lawyers want it to go to trial because they know that a group full of every day people are not going to fall for such bullshit. Does Fox have the rights to Watchmen? From what I have read, yes they do. Did Fox let Warner Brothers go ahead and make the movie without letting them know they still had the rights? Yes they did.
Warner Brothers is in the right and Fox is being greedy and any jury will see right through that.
If any of the Warner Brothers Lawyers are reading this than realize that The Watchmen was never really a well known comic. I grew up reading comics and saw it every now and then in a comic book story but nobody ever talked about it. I love watching comic book movies in Theaters but, I will probably waite for this one on DVD but, it just pisses me off when some people aka Fox act arrogant.
Fox and the other studios had a big problem putting there faith into comic book movies. Even after the first Marvel hit:Blade came out it took several years for the next big comic movie to get the green light.
My point is that even the mainstream well known comics were being dissed by the studios for decades even though the studios had rights to them.
Here comes Watchmen that isn't on the level of X-Men or Spider-Man. FOX WOULD HAVE NEVER TOOK THE RISK AND MADE THAT INTO A MOVIE FOR ANOTHER DECADE. Yeah, other graphic novels like Sin City and 300 were big hits. But, so was Blade and Superman and it still took years for hollywood to make other comic book movies. So, fox cannot use that as an excuse. Now that that images of the film have come out and a great Director has pulled it off than Fox now wants it back.
20th Century Fox is like a spoiled child that throws it's ball and does not care if another kid picks it up and starts playing with it. Then when the other kid really starts to have fun with the ball the original kid/Fox then screams that he wants the ball back.
I hope it does go to trial. Any jury in it's right mind are going to side with Warner Brothers. FOX THINKS THAT PEOPLE ARE STUPID WELL, THEY ARE NOT.
Fox should have just done the fair thing and said they own part of the rights and asked for 20% of DVD profits and left Warner Brothers alone. A dumb arrogant judge may fall for it but, a jury (full of every day people) are never going to fall for such B.S. Even if the law is on Fox's side a Jury can still throw fox to the wolves just like they recently did O.J. Simpson. -
I don't know who started this war but FOX and the WB HATE each other. I don't know where this began but with the Batman DVD's (which would sell millions, its geek catnip), the Dukes of Hazzard fight, the Bryan Singer steal, and now Watchmen, its obivious they both just want to fuck the other.
-
Boycott "Avatar"! Oh, that's right, all you fanboys crying about boycotting 20th Century Fox films, you forgot that "Avatar" is from FOX! So, you go right ahead and boycott Fox. Save your eyeballs from getting violated next year why don't ya!
-
You know it's coming. Ready yourself now.
-
Release it now prior to the trial. That would be the biggest fuck you to Fox along with the revenue it can pick up for the movie, by the time an injuction is put into play, it will be out, money has been made and then Fox can go after all the bit torrents like an RIAA bum on mad dog crack and try and save there asses from extinction from every blacklist known to film god.

PRESIDENT OF 20TH CENTURE FOX GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by illuminate
Again, I could care less about the Watchmen graphic novel or the movie. But, it is bullshit on what Fox is doing.
If Fox wanted to make it into a movie than they would have done so already.
Even after Spiderman, Blade, X-Men and hit after comic book hit came out the studios still took there time in making more comic book movies. So, Marvel had to start financing it's own movies to get things rolling. Marvel even said that they worked to get back rights to alot of there characters because the studios were letting those characters collect dust.
If this was happening with huge Marvel characters like Ironman and Thor. Than imagine what a lesser known comic like Watchmen was treated like at Fox. Fox was never going to make it into a movie for years or decades and they know. They lawyers for Warner Brothers can use all this info and etc. -
This was originally supposed to be released on my birthday. THEY BETTER NOT FUCK UP MY BIRTHDAY.
-
Fox's behavior is just unacceptable. They could have surely just informed Warner Bros. beforehand, but obviously waited to see what they'd come up and then maybe pounce on it to get "their" share. Some sort of legal ruling SHOULD take into account the unethical and obviously planned move by Fox rather than simply taking this from a who owns what. Fox should have protested the making of the movie and because they didn't it means they are looking to make an unethical profit. Despicable.
-
Why don't we just boycott France, like that idiot boy-toy--I forget his name tried to do with his Freedom Fries movement...
-
A jury is going to shit on 20th Century like they recently did with O.J.
Even if all the paper work is on Fox's side a Jury is still not going to fall for all that b.s. O.J. never robbed and kidnapped those people in Vegas and everyone knows it but, the Jury threw his ass in Jail for what he did a decade ago. A jury will not give a shit about what is written on paper, if they think something is bullshit than they will side with Warner Brothers.
Good luck in court 20th Century Fox. All your lawyers are going to drain your bank accounts and you will lose. -
People here are voicing their desires without a real grasp of the details of the contracts. Let the legal system sort out the bullshit. In the meantime, there is no reason for a judge to grant Fox's desire to hold the release. Such a thing is done if allowing the release to proceed would cause damage - here I think it clear that the damage will be far greater if the movie is NOT released on time. If the film is released and distributed by WB, and the judge rules in Fox's favor, then WB can just fork over the cash Fox is entitled to.
-
Obama's gonna change it! Obama is the aaan-swerr...
-
Every exec at Fox who authorised this can eat shit and die screaming with sharp things stuck in their face.
-
This shit is mad genius. Sit back, let somebody else take all the risks on a property that the judge agrees you have the distribution rights to, and then see what happens. Fucking pure genius.Look, it's real easy. Assume that Harry owns the rights to "Captain Dick Aicn," an enormously fat, movie lovin', pimp ass superhero, but just can his shit together to make the movie. Suddenly, one day, he hears that someone else is making HIS "Captain Dick Aicn!" OMG! WTF! It's a catastrophe!Or is it?Now Harry gets to sit on his ass and let some other chumble fuckdick spend his time and money on "Captain Dick Aicn." Once this cinematic treat is finished, Harry has a decision: does he stop it from being distributed or does he cash in on the money machine?Seems to me that decision depends on Harry, his feelings about "Captain Dick Aicn," and the final product. I mean, if Harry loves his intellectual property and these other guys made a piece-of-shit then he stops distribution and nobody ever has to see his little baby dragged through the mud.On the other hand, if Harry loves "Captain Dick Aicn" and these other schmucks, who made this without his permission or agreement, if these other schmucks turned out not a turd, but a diamond, something that might be worth something in the end, why shouldn't Harry ask for a kickback? And why should Harry have to put up a cent for anything? These guys took the risk of making a movie without his permission -- the risk is all theirs and the proceeds should be divided between the parties (if Harry agrees to let the movie be released). But, in the end, Harry's (or Fox's) risk should be just that, all in or not. Take the chance or simply pull the flick. No bullshit 30% buy-in. Harry (and Fox) already "bought-in" when the purchased (and held onto) distribution rights. The other schmucks (Warner Bros) took their chances in makiing this film without Harry's (or Fox's) permission. That's not that hard to see, is it?
-
Fox Squid attacks WB for +20 lawsuit damage.
*critical hit!*
-
"Watchmen" looks gay! Especially that blue guy in his underwear! THAT'S FREAKING GAY! What straight guy would get excited about that? At least "Trick R Treat" has pretty girls in it.
-
Had this been Plastic Man, and Fox had distribution rights or whatever it is they have, and the WB made the movie, no one would give a shit. No one gives a damn about Plastic Man. It would be a nice family comedy, with a decent box office turnout, and eventually be sold as a 2 for 1 pack with the Shazam movie at walmart years down the line. But, Watchmen is like the holy grail and 10 commandments of comic books. Even if it looked like it was going to be shit, even if it had early bad reviews, people would still turn out for it and it would make its money back. Fox knows this. They're upset that they didn't get to put out a piece of shit movie, make it look nice ans shiny and pimp it to the public, and then watch their ho bring in the money. So now they're playing their reverse card, and the WB is going to play they're reverse card. And they're going to keep playing their reverse cards until somebody gets uno.
-
to Whom and to what address should I send it to?
-
Artistic integrity vs. business acumen. It's really that simple. In a touchy-feely, emo-artistic world, Fox would have put their foot down the second that somebody else started fucking with their property. But they didn't.They made a very shrewd business move, allowing some other idiots who obviously didn't have all their legal ducks in a row to take ALL the risks. In the end, Fox "outfoxed" Warner Bros.I got no great love for Fox, but a well-played, shrewd move deserves respect, not the whining of the "pure artists."
-
Could someone please tell me where that 'Bullshit!' clip comes from? It's a riot.
-
Fox's shrewdness might have allowed Warner Brothers, a studio with some fucking balls and some artistic integrity (if not business acumen), to do something *hopefully* great with a great property and kept it from being screwed by Fox.
-
They didn't do anything illegal. You should hate WARNER BROS. and their legal dept. for dropping the ball on this one. Warners has been in the movie business for almost 100 years! You would think they would know how the studio system works! The behind-the-scenes business of Hollywood is brutal people.
-
is to let FOX make their own Watchmen movie, and release both versions at the same time. Fox, knowing the outrage of geeks, will include the squid in their movie. So you'll get WB's version that looks pretty good with no squid, or Fox's shitty movie WITH the squid.
WHICH ONE WOULD YOU CHOOSE??? -
Are you for fucking real? Seriously? That has to be the stupidest thing I ever fucking read. Ever.
-
It could be done. It's not like News Corporation owns stuff you can't possibly avoid. I mean, it'd be way harder to boycott Warner Bros than it would be to boycott Rupert Murdoch.
-
Quoting Val Kilmer in Batman Forever: "I choose both".
-
They did get lazy. They probably felt that since Fox was sitting on it for 20 years and didn't do anything with it, that Fox wouldn't be able to hold up a fight in court.
-
not wasting my time with petitions or long posts. going to hit them where they'll feel it and be done with it.
-
"They lawyers for Warner Brothers can use all this info and etc.?" Seriously, what the fuck does that even mean? Do you play an uneducated, retarded paralegal on television? Please don't play one here.BTW, it's THEN, not "THAN," "ITS" not "IT'S," and "THEIR" not "THERE."
-
"the return of captain invincible" which is an early 80s movie. its listed on imdb.
-
for the weirdest video you'll ever see, go to youtube and type in: Adam Sandler Dog Police or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =x1bfFNojAvI
-
Ok, with everyone screaming Boycott, fox isnt scared. it's the people that actually DO something that they care about. Who of you has the balls to start something, a picket, a news generating petition... If you got nothing, shut up!
-
You fucking rule! That shit was excellent and pertinent. Best post here!
-
Not shitty for Fox... obviously. For fans waiting two decades for a film, it is shitty,
-
Harry, I know you're no doubt all set to give Wolverine the premature bad review it might very well deserve...but you know full well that on the title name alone, far too many people will come out of the woodwork for it and FOX won't get the message that we don't like them, no matter how many bad reviews are printed here.
-
I banned that fucking Wolverine movie when they picked Gavin Hood to direct it. Now it looks even WORSE then I thought it would! Yeah I'll boycott it. But then so will everyone else in the world...
-
I couldn't boycott It's Always Sunny if I tried. Other than that, this asshattery- whatever it is- will not stand!
-
mukhtabi--if your life sucks so much that you are going to be homeless, without a job etc, you need to reevaluate some things, if a movie can come even a little close to making you feel better, i feel sorry for you. but mainly, if you are dealing with these things get off of this website and the internet in genral and do something proactive. when my mom was pregnent with me, my dad lost his job. what he did was go to the library every day and stay there longer than he would spend in a job and worked his ass off to get a job, and now we're very well off. if he was spending that time online on geek message boards waiting for some movie to come out to make him feel better i'd be living in a tiny apartment, without a car, at a shitty job, and praying i could find a way to pay for college...i know, i'm lucky, but i also have learned from my father that finding a job is a full time job in itself. get offline and stop sucking so much at life.
-
Just fuck you.
-
I've got a boner.
-
If any of you were true comic geeks with any respect for the source material, you would have banned Wolverine from the very beginning, meaning Singer's X-Men 1! And I'm not talking about the lack of yellow spandex. I'm talking about who Singer cast for the role.A six-foot, thirty-something chick-magnet should NEVER have played Wolverine!A six-foot, thirty-something chick-magnet should NEVER have played Wolverine!A six-foot, thirty-something chick-magnet should NEVER have played Wolverine!Wolverine is a five-foot, ugly sixty-something. The role should have gone to Harvey Keitel. Mel Gibson perhaps in *this* day and age as opposed to in the 90's when he was originally speculated, but even that was a stretch. And you Danzig assholes can lick mine. But even now, still to this day, you bitches claim how Singer was SO faithful to the source material." PHOOEY!And NOW you talk of Wolverine boycott? Now? It took a DC one-shot story to move you to such extent that you consider boycotting WINO? Please. Only Jessica Alba tops Jackman for worst comic casting ever.
-
Do they simply want their name atop the credits, and money of course? Do they want the FOX network to get the TV premiere, therefore increasing ad revenue? Do you REALLY think this is about proper ownership rights? It's ALL about $$$$. Fox waited to see what this film will look like, and now that it looks really good, and is generating buzz...they laid the hammer down.
-
You see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps!?
-
You really think Harvey Keitel would have played Wolverine better than Hugh Jackman? Really? You're still shitting stones about this? Are you serious?

No fan generated box office for 20th Century Fox tentpoles in 20
by sevadro
Instant gratification. They put it out, we pay up. No studio stops a movie from being shown! Not after this much hype, this much anticipation! I say it's time for fans to exert some pressure on these a-holes. If people refrain from seeing movies like Dragonball, Night at the Museum, or Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 on their opening weekends - we will seriously effect the box office by causing a shift in public awareness to the following weekend's movies. This should effect advertising and box office numbers. That will put an end to this bullshit quick fast.
-
in your darkest, most homo-erotic nightmares did you EVER think you'd see Van Wilder in the role of Deadpool, in nothing more than a red tank top?
FOX... do us all a favor and please stop ruining good properties. seriously... just get out of the superhero movie business. you aren't good at this. -
Clearly, only one of us recognizes the source material for what it is.Are you a movie geek? Then fine. Are you a comic book geek? Then shame on you. Ang could have made the Hulk purple and you would have seen nothing wrong with it.
-
But Fox isn't suing for distribution. It's pretty simple. Gordon never went back to Fox, at any point, with any incarnation of this project, whether it was Rothman, Mechanic or Chernin in charge. If you read the initial deal that gave the rights to Gordon/Largo, you can see it was something done out of deference to his former executive position. If that wasn't enough, the 90's revision gave more leeway to Gordon to get another studio on board. The revision was Fox's way of saying "we'll fund your movie if it's reasonable. If not, you can take it to someone else who will". It was not, as portrayed, as Fox's way of keeping the project mired down.Gordon could have ended this mess very simply even after Snyder was on board; have Zach write the entire goddamn thing as one huge script, take it to Rothman and say we're shooting a trilogy. Rothman wouldn't have funded the damn thing, and because the contract states that Fox had no creative control over what Gordon brought them, the answer would have been yes or no. So no matter what they said, WB would have been involved because the price tag would have made Fox actively search for a partner to split P&A or Gordon would have been on his merry way. There's one bad guy here, and he's been playing AICN like a harp for years.

Ratner had Juggernaught holding his helmet underarm in a scene. But it's too chic to criticize RatnerSinger literally grounded Storm and cast Halle Berry. Singer cast Scott and Jean 15 years apart in age. Singer had Rasputin speak American English in a throwaway role. Singer reduced Rogue to a screaming little girl. Singer played the almost Catholic priest Wagner as a self-mutilating pagan. Singer crippled Professor Xavier in the third act in each movie.Van Wilder in a red wife-beater isn't much of a stretch given the foundation poured by the man who built upon Donner's house. Singer should be made to gargle shards of glass.

and to ease my depression about turning 30 I was going to go see Watchmen then get hammered...by myself. I may now only be able to do one of those things. Mother Fuck You Fox. Fuck you and everything you fucking stand for. Fuck you. Fuck you because now turning 30 is going to be even more depressing, at least I had Watchmen to look forward to - FUCK YOU. Fuck you!
-
I'm a comic and movie geek, but I am also understanding enough to know that source material should be respected if the film does not suffer because of it.
By your logic then if a director and his/her team try hard enough to respect the source material, but the film looks completely horrible, that makes it a better film?
So Raimi's Spider-Man should have been able to develop a web-creating chemical in his bedroom, that has the tensile strength as demonstrated on the screen, but he's still in High School?
Continuing with Spider-Man, should the Green Goblin have been an elf looking creature with a purple Santa hat? Would that have been better?
There are occasions when updating the source material is necessary, sometimes not. But thinking I would agree with ANY change is silly, just like me thinking you'd like any or all of those changes above (at least I hope you don't). -
It seems like it would be in Warner's best interest to publicize the crap out of this case. Not that geeks complaining will change Fox's position, but controversy and news coverage may turn this into a big summer movie when it does get released (which I'm sure it will).
In fact, the lawsuit may make millions for Fox, and even more millions for Warner. Both might come out ahead. -
Not because of their case (they actually might be in the right) but in how shitty they brought this shit up. They could of stopped it, when it was first announced, they could of stopped it when it was in Pre-Production. Hell, they could have stopped it when they began filming, or even yet, during post-production. They decided to pull this shit when it was locked, and they realized the that not only was this movie highly anticipated, but WB might have actually did something they couldn't do(for last 20 years) - make a good looking WATCHMEN movie.
Now, anyone with somewhat of a brain knows that, this was the plan all along. Have someone make a movie they couldn't, then snatch it away. This is a douche move, and I hope WB battles it out - even if it means it never see's the light of day.
Overall, I think we will see a settlement, cause FOX won't be able to handle the backlash, that's about to commence. The cocksuckers! -
This will be settled out of court. Too much money would be lost for both WB and Fox if this film gets delayed.
-
Agreed
-
...We can find out WHY "9" hasn't been mentioned ONCE on this site?
-
"By your logic then if a director and his/her team try hard enough to respect the source material, but the film looks completely horrible, that makes it a better film? Would that have been better?"A purple satchel would have been nice. Where, exactly, did he pull thoe pumpkin bombs from, Captain Reality?"There are occasions when updating the source material is necessary, sometimes not."And there are occasions where comic geeks think in-the-box and there are occasions where comic geeks lose all sense of imagination and grow into people like XoanonTORN.

Sad little boy...I'm done with you.

This isn't an assault against Warner Bros. by Fox, this is Fox' attempt to better corner the super hero market in regard to controlling these comic book properties in film. Warner's response should be 1) Stop selling licenses for their comic book properties to other film companies. 2) Immediately move to counter Fox in regard to The X-Men and Fantastic Four. 3) I would move to attempt to get the future rights for the X-Men and the Fantastic Four when Fox loses control of them. 4) Warner needs to place its own character catalogue into full power in terms of beefing up and going after Fox' largely uncontested claim on dominating the super hero film. Time to make a Legion Of Super Heroes film, a Justice League movie, a Doom Patrol, and even a The Authority film. The Authoriy is the prime property among them, one that reminds one of Watchmen. If indeed Warner is in danger of losing the court case over The Watchmen, they can place the film on the shelf and launch The Authority as a Hard R rated film, one designed to take its place. I'd probably quickly revamp the Justice League script for that purpose...and use it for an Authority film--a film that I would place on the fast track. 5) Warner should humiliate Fox by seeking out the rights to release future Star Wars films. I would pay George Lucas top dollar to release the original trilogy and the prequels in 3D and IMAX, depending on his agreeing on producing, and allowing, Warner to release a new, and 3rd, Star Wars Trilogy, etc.As for Fan Boys And Fan Girls, it is time that we boycott Fox and its films!!! Boycott Wolverine and any new X-Men films, spin offs, etc. The Fox attack on Warner Bros., ultimately, is a manipulative attack on you, the fans, crushing your hopes and dreams!!! If Fox legitimately thought they had a case, they should have filed it, in respect to The Watchmen as soon as Warner announced their intentions to make the film in the first place. This issue is wholly about Fox trying to delay Warner Films' resurgence in the super hero market, and their fear that a Hard R film like Watchmen will be sure to undermine The X-Men as a franchise. Time to pay Fox back for playing these bogus games and battering fans in the process, as if we were wives and children to be abused!!!
-
besides comic book heads ... x-men and wolverine is more recognized by the average movie goer ....

Make a website. Include why you are boycotting fox, what it would take for you to end the boycott. Be mature about it and reasonable. Don't just tell them to eat dicks. Understand that Fox is in the legal right and state specifically what it would take for you to end the boycott.
List every movie and tv show you are avoiding as part of the boycott. Have members sign their name under each of these tv shows and movies they have avoided as part of the boycott. List the number of people who signed after each avoided movie and tv show and let the suits and fox figure out how much the loss is. Update the website with news articles related to the case.
That's my opinion about how effective you can make the boycott. Unfortunately, every one of us, including myself, is too damn lazy to do all that work. -
The "Batman" TV series was produced in the 1960s, by Fox. At the time no one had any idea that syndication rights would ever be an issue, let alone DVD rights. So, while DC owns the character of Batman, et al, they don't own the 1966 TV show. And don't kid yourselves, this is a bone of contention between the two. A few years ago, for example, Mike Allred had to redraw the cover for his DC book "Solo" because the Batman depicted thereon looked, to WB, too much like Adam West.
-
in a style depicted in the watchmen trailer. That'll show them, or atleast make us all feel better.
-
Fox needs to concentrate more on making good films instead of thinking they have everything right. And by that, they need to make "Eldest" and learn from their mistakes they made with "Eragon".
-
THE MOVIE THAT RUPERT MURDOCH DID NOT WANT YOU TO SEE
dont need more clips or trailers...dont need the stars to make appearances...just run that commercial everywhere
just curious, does the distribution and release only include theaters and not the back end? because if it does not include dvd, netflix and cable, i would say just release it to those venues...forget a theater release and then let fox try and make money in the theaters -
...Ejaculates in his pants. It's the Watchmen curse! Hahahahahha!

-
I understand you've been indoctrinated by MSDNC and all, but believe it or not -- the name Rupert Murdoch has even less name recognition than Watchmen. Yeah, I know, staged bombing made the towers fall and all that, but Rupert STILL does not have the name recognition as the Moore/Gibbons creation.
-
I mean I don't want it to but let's face it. For someone who hasn't read the book, the characters look pretty goofy, even if they're supposed to. The fact that it has no names in it doesn't help and people who don't know any better are just going to compare it to TDK. I wouldn't sink a lot of money into stealing the rights to this if I were Fox.
-
What the fuck are you talking about? Who the fuck doesn't know who Rupert fucking Murdoch is? He was in an episode of the Simpsons for christ sake.

-
fuck you!!!!
-
Are you telling me the writer's of the fucking Simpsons, a show seen by probably half the planet, decided to include in an episode a media mogul no one's heard of? Are you for fucking real?
-
I'm not trying to be a troll, I like WATCHMEN, but it's (1) too long and (b) has no stars in it. I think it will tank like SPEED RACER or THE GOLDEN COMPASS did, unfortunately. (although I should note that TGC did quite well internationally, and with DVD sales and merchandising rights included, should at least break even. But still, there won't be a GOLDEN COMPASS franchise now because it didn't fufill expectations.)
-
The next major Fox release is the revenge flick Taken. On opening day across the country people need to buy up tickets and then refuse to leave. Alert the media and issue statements that Fox is threatening to take Watchmen away from the general public through their brazen and greedy actions. And there you have your successfully obnoxious and appropriately annoying boycott that will be covered for at least a week on cable news.

I've been disappointed with what I've seen of the Watchmen movie so far. I'd rather it not be made than be a letdown, so Fox is actually the hero of this story for me.

...and I mean actual bullshit. I will go to the nearest farm with a bull, and I will put some it's shit into a box and mail it to the Biggest Asshole in Hollywood! Yes, damnit, I want a trial, and I hope WB's lawyer drags your fat ass to the stand so everyone can see what a stupid, fat piece of shit you really are! FUCK YOU FOX AND TOM ROTHMAN!

The fact that the ' squid ending ' now coincides with an ACTUAL tragic incident in New York of similar nature makes it a HELL OF A LOT MORE SHOCKING ( and resonant ) than when it came out, 20 years ago. ' Raising the threat level ' would reduce something that blunt and direct into really overt, cartoonish stupidity.

when SOMEBODY organizes a boycott. Me avoiding Wolverine will be tough, but I can do it especially if I feel it'll serve a purpose. Warner Bros shouldn't go after x-men and f4 properties. As far as those franchises go, it would be extremely nice if Marvel studios acquired complete control of those.....So there you go, no fox movies for me and somebody do something relatively official so it can be organized. I'm sure somebody has the cojones............ I hope my Fox News doesn't get hurt by this though. :P
-
That's getting to be my favorite new phrase.
Okay. No more looking at Fox... for any reason. Not even if it self-immolates. -
It's not a boycott if I wasn't going to go see it anyway. I would probably skip Wolverine, since the trailer was a bit of a yawn. I've never been a huge 24 fan. I've missed lots of Simpsons episodes over the years, and I should probably do something productive instead of watching up to 5 Simpsons reruns per day. It's not like giving beer up for Lent!

Everyone on the site read that article. Harry linked to it the other day.

Fox are assholes.
-
Could we get some behind the scenes scoops on that one? Cause rumor has it,it was intended to be a somewhat dark hard PG13 possibly R rated flick until Rothman got ahold of it. I seem to recall hearing that sets were rebuilt to make them lighter and more mutant characters were added to increase the possibility of future spin-offs. Whats the deal there?

your all assholes for typing boycott when wb is in the wrong
by jeanluc dickhard
... it's fox's property .... case closed
-
basically anytime i take my girlfriend to see some chic flick, i buy the tickets online for a cool movie then take her into the theatre that her movie is playing, i vote with my money, and refuse to pay to see that crap, but will do the good boyfriend and still take her to what she wants to see...so, buy a warners movie and go see the fox movie...'nuff said
-
WB may be in the wrong. In that case, Fox should sell the rights to WB. Fox needs to be boycotted because they REFUSE to negotiate. They are doing nothing but trying to halt the release of the film. The boycott should not be done out of anger, but to send a clear message that we want Fox to negotiate and reach a satisfying conclusion for both parties.
-
Fox is making friends and fans
-
Told you so.........
-
If you organize a bunch of film geeks to sell out first day screenings to the Fox release Taken say on opening day or the following Saturday, then alert the press and refuse to leave the theatre until escorted out, you might get picked up in the press. You make a statement about Fox's actions threatening to take away Watchmen from the fans who want to see it and the need for the situation to be resolved immediately. Perhaps threaten future boycots and then be done with it. The important thing isn't whether or not Fox corporate aren't greedy or whether they're in their rights. The important thing is Watchmen doesn't get it's release date pushed back and it doesn't get altered. WB and Fox can suck it. Organize something that defends the movie itself.
-
...and hope they can get a slice of something similar with Watchmen(which they wouldn't even with the movie under their distribution). I gotta rant on this. Honestly, I don't care much for either company. I hope this economic crisis they say we're in buries Fox, or better yet, gets them bought out. And Warner Bros. needs to get its shit together and dig into their DC goldmine. Fuck, they got a whole pantheon of characters that could carry a film on their own(albeit a shitload of others that are barely worth mentioning) yet all we're still seeing is Supes and Batman. Now we get Watchmen, an overrated byproduct of the eighties, which simply because every die-hard geek on the planet virtually worships the paper its printed on, is handed over to the guy who brought us the remake of a sequel to an indie zombie flick, and the sweaty linebackers in loincloths movie based on a drug-addicted hacky-tacks comic book based on historic events but not entirely historical. Gimmie the fucking Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter and Flash, leave this motley crew of depressed washed-up send-up of superheroes on paper.

rights does not mean they will automatically obtain an injunction. There still has to be an examination of the four-factor test, including whether Fox will be substantially harmed if an injunction does not issue and whether WB will be substantially harmed by the issuance of an injunction among others. In the present case, I believe WB has a strong argument that FOX can be fully compensated through monetary compensation and that WB will be substantially harmed if an injunction issues.
-
What a stupid idea for a movie.
-
The only proper response to this if the release gets delayed is for Paramount to move STAR TREK up into March release to fill the gap. Hell, why not? Geeks in withdrawl will at least have one fix they can get.

if it does happen, which i hope to christ it doesn't, either june 5 or october 9. dr. manhattan rules!!

Good.

There are lots of people on the planet that do not know who Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Ted Turner, or Rupert Murdoch are. And, yes, I'm for fucking real.
-
the only people who should be jealous of the dark knight's success is marvel, not fox. they've been going at it for years. even if another darker superman is made, it won't do anything. marvel studios is 15 minutes of fame bullshit even with iron man,the sub-par spidey trilogy and the hulk "re-do". the dark knight is the best movie ever and will have a well-deserved spot in the all-time most memorable scenes list along with the horse head in the godfather or the "luke, i am your father" line from the empire strikes back. maybe when fox does captain america justice at long last, maybe things will be very, very different.
-
..that fills the gap. that's just pushing it. it's on may 8th for many, many reasons. because of the spirit's failure, i was thinking maybe either wolverine, ice age or quite possibly g.i joe. let's just keep our fingers crossed about this whole thing for now.
-
You make great points, yet fail to consider how Marvel is slowly COMBINING their capital and squeezing every drop toward building goodwill.Granted, it could fall on its face. Yet that hasn't happened. Yet.
-
Those of you thinking this movie won't appeal to the general public- I'm not a nerd at all, I've had sex at least two times in my life and go to the gym once or twice every two weeks. I'd generally rather read Home and Garden than a comic book. However, this story looks pretty cool from all the trailers. Should I sack up and buy the book so I can see what happens or wait to see it in all of its greasy nerd glory on the big screen?
-
You would be best advised to invest your money with Air Force Amy in Nevada. Tell her "Zuki" sent you.
-
Can we hold up on the greatest movie of all time for The Dark Knight. TDK is a very good movie with a flawed last half hour. After 20 years everyone can start to decide if it stands the test of time.
-
whatever WB offered Fox as settlement wasn't enough. Fox wants something big and WB can't exactly claim poverty with The Dark Knight making nearly a billion dollars. Saying that I think Fox shouldn't push their luck on this. If I was WB I'd put together an online distribution deal and tell Fox to back off or they'll give the movie away for free. Segment the thing and put it out as chapters just like the comic. They can get someone like Vimeo or Youtube to host the thing and make all manner of advertising capitol... It'd be awesome if they were willing to take no money just to be able to tell Fox to go take a flying leap. Anyway they'll bicker back and forth until they find a number that both sides can deem a win-win. Then the spinning will commence Fox will express how the film truly fulfills a spectacular vision and blah blah. WB will say that they were happy to include Fox in the fantastic story blah blah... Hell, the only negotiating tack that's probably already set is what the press releases will look like after its all over.
-
... is send Bugs Bunny over the totally fuck up Murdoch's ass. Who is Fox gonna retaliate with? Mighty Mouse? Fuck that shit!
-
Take a look at Fox's projected 2009 Release Schedule:
http://tinyurl.com/7jpuhu.
Its so Sad..other than a couple slam dunks (Night at Museum 2/X-Men Origins/Ice Age 3) Most of their Titles sound pathetic at best. Lawsuitz iz only wayz to make da bread!! -
I would know it if mine had been eaten, and it most certainly has not.
-
Cameron is friends with Gianopulos (co-chair of Fox along with Rothman) so I doubt Fox will be messing with AVATAR.
-
...the more potential for bootlegs to show up all over the planet! Nice one, Fox...
-
I figure there's no place on the planet better to have the question, "Should I buy the Watchmen book or wait for the movie?" answered than this talkback, and an hour later I still don't have an answer? What the fuck is going on?

-
2009 will be a better year for them.
-
... buy the book! No one here disputes its quality, unlike the movie than none of them have seen yet.
-
For the simple fact, that I don't think WB is dumb enough to put themselves in that situation. If they delay it, that means they will lost alot of money, and people will not only be pissed at Fox, but also be very pissed off at WB.
So all WB has to do is settle with Fox, pay them their money, and let everything rest for good. And let's face it, if the film sucks, then we'll probably wish that the film got delayed(lol). ;) -
I thought Warner's was the awful studio... now Warner's is good and Fox is awful? Wow. I gotta start paying attention.

-
The dumbass irony about this one is that, by the time that they settle the case and get around to releasing the thing, the public will be so sick of the overexposure an ignore it. I so, it will probably die at the box office after the initial fanboy infested opening, thereby insuring that its success will be limited at best. This is what greed and a lack of ethics will buy you.
-
and both WB and Fox know it. It's in their interest to prolong this into February. I'd bet you don't see WB pull any advertising for Watchmen due to fear of not hitting the release date. They know this thing's not going to be stopped, and because of the lawsuit, mainstream media will have had a helping hand at informing the public about this non-mainstream comic property. Fox and WB will both make a killing on a movie that has no right making any more money than Tank Girl.

ironically, if Fox doesn't push this envelope, they won't stand a chance of gaining anything via the courts or an arbitrator in the end. It's just like keeping your copyright when you feel it's being infringed upon - the only way you keep your rights to the material is if you pursue it, whether you really intend to take it to the fullest extent of the law or not. Hopefully this posturing will lead to a satisfactory compromise between the two studios (sounds like WB will likely have to fork over something) and the movie will still be released in march.

He's exactly what's wrong with Hollywood these days, it's the same reason I have no respect for the Wiensteins, money men with no creativity who think they not only know better than the fans but also better than the creators. Hopefully Fox will implode and someone with brain one in their skull will come in and take over, wish they could lure Ladd back.
-
Does everyone read everything...or do you just see "Fox" and start writing talkbacks for them to suck a dick?
Warner Bros. says THEY WILL NOT TALK SETTLEMENT. If WB really cared about the movie, as everyone is screaming for Fox to, then they would settle. Hell, if they really cared, they would have answered Fox's legal notices when they started making the movie...or maybe even tried to work it out then. Warners made something that (Fox claims) it shouldn't have, and a judge sided with Fox. What should Fox do...give them a pass on that? What if Fox decided to make a Batman movie...should Warners allow them to for the good of the fanboy and film community. Fox isn't reacting like a child, they're reacting like a business, which they are. It's all of you who are hurt and reacting like children.

has already proved he's an incompetent director. Watchmen's going to be a horrible 2 hour long music video. And i'm sure Fox are shitting in their pants that a few hundred AICN talkbackers are going to boycott their product.

And to me thats a very very very good thing. Oh and FUCK FOX! Fuck em with a big red horse sized dildo! They do not even try to pretend not to be evil anymore do they? Every movie Fox put out last year bombed. The name brand 20th Century Fox has been tarnished by a right wing trashy news channel with the same name and company. The Watchmen stunt is the movie div trying to act like its bully news channel and one day its gonna mess with the wrong company. I hope to GOD Warner countersues them for everything. Anyway rant over. Anyway I really dont care that much aout the movie..It looks great and im deff going to see it. What im stoked about is that all the new readers the movie will get. Watchmen is one of the greatest books published in the past 30 years and it will turn many many people who dont read comics on how great a medium it is. If it gets released

Am i correct in thinking that WB can release this outside the US? if so then they should, and alow all of America to import region1 dvdz/bluray from the EU/china or wherever. And as for FOX,well they should have piped up AS SOON AS THEY HEARD OF THIS FILM,END OF STORY.WB are dumb fuckers for (choosing)to 'forget' about Fox's rights,END OFF.it's a fucking mess on both sides.....BUT I SAY THIS TO FOX...YOU ARE FUCKING WITH THE FANBASE,YOU ARE PISSING US ALL OFF WITH YOU'RE HARDBALL TACTICS,SORT IT OUT OR YOU WILL LOOSE A LOT MORE MONEY THAN YOU WILL RECIVE OFF WB.But untill then release it in Europe(via paramount?) then i can watch the bastard.
-
Hell hath no fury like a fanboy (or girl) disapointed.
-
Fox have stepped in to delay the release because they are unhappy about the lack of squid.Rupert Murdoch is a huge Alan Moore fan and was distraught when he discovered Zach Snyder's plans for reimagining the ending. The order to delay the release came from on high and Rothman was obliged to act accordingly.Fox have agreed to fund the reshooting of the original ending and will cede their rights to distribtion if Warners attach Murdoch's beloved squid conclusion to the finale instead of Snyder's more Veidt-centric conclusion. Now, if that's a fact...tell me...am I lying?
-
...this is simply Fox following capitalism 101. And in a country so obsessed with the rights of individuals and legality it is stunning the levels of hypocrisy achieved on this talkback thus far. Fox's obligation is to make maximum profit for their shareholders. Warners proceeded when, legally, they should have paused for thought.I'd be more shocked if Fox didn't make some sort of attempt to defend their rights. Seems to me that most people on this site like their rights when it SUITS them. And those ain't rights people, they're whims, caprices and idiosyncracies.Still, I suppose there is something healthy about venting spleen over a TB board...probably less sticky than what you lot normally vent over your keybords and screens.
-
Typing "THERE" for "THEY'RE" is not a typo little girl. Typing "THAN" multiple times for "THEN" is not a typo. I might give you "IT'S" for "ITS," but I highly fucking doubt it.Nonetheless, I highly doubt that anyone who defends O.J. Simpson while producing such gems as "they lawyers for Warner Brothers can use all this info and etc." and who discounts Fox's legally binding contract as "bullshit paperwork" knows the difference between "IT'S" and "ITS."Finally, Illuminate nice effort on your last post for spelling (and I don't HAVE to use spellcheck - I already know how to spell, moron), but you've got one run-on, one misapplied comma, and even a little inbred like you should know how to spell "FAGGOT."If brains were dynamite, Illuminate, you wouldn't have enough to blow your own nose.
-
with a "U". My favorite Jon Vuvuits (sp) line.

And Fox kept playing. WB didn't check the rights out, and Fox has a just case.

If anything, this proves the studios:
by the gospel according to bastardface
-- are in the business of making money, not making movies. It's got to bad for business relations. Hollywood is so small, to do this to a colleague, more than a competitor is disgraceful.
-
Jesus. A multi-million dollar property with a built in fan base directed by Zach "the man" Snyder. Who wouldn't exercise their LEGAL option to distribute the picture (or at least feign playing hardball to get a juicy rushed settlement) Grow up and get over it kids. It's business.
-
Awareness will go through the roof with the mainstream as this case starts to go through the gears.
Like it or not, outside of the fanboys, there is nowhere near the awareness some of you think there should be; less than three months to release.
Any publicity is good publicity. There isn't a chance this isn't going to be opening March 6. Warners will pay up. They'll make it up for all the extra people seeing it who wouldn't have necessarily. But it is a dumb move on there part.
How could they really get this far with it, knowing Fox have distribution rights claims? They must be confident they can prove the claim wrong.
I'll bet Fox wish they had this coming though. What a TERRIBLE year they've had. -
As soon as I can download it illegally. Fuck Fox. I'll get my enjoyment of their media, and they won't get a dime of my money. Guerilla conserumism, baby.

Is it possible WB is only doing this to stir up talk of the flick to hype up the opening day? You only want something MORE when they threaten to take it away, right? I call shenanigans on both studios. WB will pay out no matter what but they are going to take advantage of this situation to get some free publicity for the film next year.
-
AICN manages two watchmen threads that manage to go without ever mentioning the Squid. Funny how WB got the nerds to forget about that so easily after all that bitching they were doing. mmmm...
-
..the comic geeks will be so happy their little film survived they wouldn't care if Dr. Manhattan was turned green at the last minute. Just like Ledgers Death and its effect on the dark knight.
-
HEADGEEK, now THAT is smart. If they want to take part in the success, then they should take part in the "risk" (if there really is any).
-
Maybe I'm getting more conservative in my old age, but... does Fox actually have any legal legs to stand on here? I mean, did they have the rights to make this movie? Whether they would have ever made this movie or not, why would WB go forward with this if someone else retained the rights?I will admit that it seems most like a money grab because I don't recall them trying to prevent this movie from being "made", just trying to stop its release, knowing that this far into production WB would never NOT release it.
-
The squid is talked about...Read that big black box in the middle of the talk back.
-
That Fox is trying to halt the release of Watchmen because they want to release the Adam West Batman series on DVD but Warner won't let them. If this is the case, Warners please, let the baby have their bottle and let them release the Batman TV series on DVD so that we can have both Watchmen and Batman FINALLY on DVD. If that truly is the case, and it does transpire that way, then this next year will truly be a geeky year to look forward to.
-
And Alan Moore is still laughing on his way back from the bank..............
-
Harry..............and Michael Bay.
-
Damn cocksuckers...
-
Why did they ever sell the rights to begin with? Also it's about time that both of these companies hash something out and get the old Batman TV series out on DVD. There's something wrong when all 7,000 seasons of Full House can be legally purchased, but Batman can not.
-
what would be the point? The best movie they've had in years was X-Files: I Want to Believe and that was nothing more than a love letter to the hardcore fans. It's obvious Rothman and his band of braindead sycophants stayed out of it because it stayed so true to the show. They would had added at least a few explosions and more than one action scene.
Now the craptacular looking Wolverine on the other hand has Rothman's stink all over it. -
While you can. When this movie hit the dust shelf, it will be gone forever, and Snyder can get on another project, now that this embarassing adaptation will remain a myth never to be seen (so bad it is)
-
I think its funny how FOX is being looked at as the bad guy yet they are the ones playing by the rules. WB was so upset that they are now suing CBS. Crying like a baby.

I don't usually talk like this, but Fuck Fox. Fuck them up their stupid asses. They are the ones that all the ball lickers. Fox estas putas maricons!!!
-
How many people can you get on board? 1,000? 10,000? You'll never get a large enough percentage of the population to go along with a boycott; no matter how hard you try, you'd never get a big enough percentage for it to hurt a multi-billion dollar conglomerate's bottom line. Petitions are even more laughable. However, if someone were to, say, personally send Mr. Rothman a box of bovine fecal matter, or a bag of dicks as previously suggested...well, if you got even 100 people to do that, you've sent a message.
-
The reason you don't follow legal crap on this site is because apparently you have no fucking clue how any of it works.

I'm all over this. No FOX releases for me.

Should leak this thing EVERYWHERE so Fox can't cash in on it.
-
Not that I think it'll do anything to change Fox's mind, but it will hurt Fox, which punishes them and makes me feel better. Not that they have anything I can think of that I would otherwise be seeing if not for a boycott.
-
they'd love free money as much as anybody. of course they'll release it
-
Or whatever when they paid for the distribution rights. Don't know what Fox paid, but they obviously own it according to a judge. Now you want them to pay AGAIN 'cause WB was too stupid to purchase the distribution rights?!?!?!The sleazebags here (and I doubt it was that) are Warner Bros.Look, in my opinion, most laws are written by lawyers to enrich other lawyers...And it looks like this one's paying off in spades for both sets of lawyer. They're the only ones who'll come out of this wealthier.
-
1) Making the Iron Giant a tremendous success 2) Making Let the Right One In the sleeper hit of the year 3) Getting Brett Ratner off of X-men 3 4) Getting Bruce Willis to say Yippe Ki Yay Motherfuckers in the fourth Die Hard 5) Stopping the reign of Tom Rothman 6) Making the Star Wars prequels better 7) Getting McG fired from Terminator Salvation 8) Convincing Zack Snyder to put the squid back in Watchmen
Come on guys, let's do it: Internet petition and stop all this nonsense! -
that way you don't miss 24 or IASIP and wait for Wolverine screeners to hit the torrent sites. Voila, you don't miss any of the fun but you fuck Fox in the ass at the same time.
-
talkbackers on this site. I bet they make copies of this talkback and use it as toilet paper. Boycotting and illegal downloading are really going to hurt them. I can hear them crying now. Oh, forget it. I was wrong. That was laughter.
-
I received the Watchmen graphic novel for Christmas and have just gotten to Chapter 3. I'm enjoying the book a lot and look forward to seeing the movie, whenever it is released. How come Fox didn't start any of this litigation when WB started pre-production or filming? They just wanted to have WB foot the bill then take them to court for distribution money. Screw 'em.
-
if illegal downloads don't hurt them why do the studios make such a fuss about it? Because they're greedy fucks, and to greedy fucks losing any amount of money scares them.

-
Right now, while it still looks like Watchmen is coming out in March, I will keep my protests to a minimum. But , if Fox dares do anything to push back the release, then I will personally skip EVERYTHING they are connected to in 2009. This hurts because I am such a fan of X-Men and had been looking forward to the Wolverine movie as well as James Cameron's new flick Avatar. There are even some movies from last year I wanted on DVD (I kinda liked Mirrors and wanted to see what the 15 minutes of lost footage was to Babylon A.D. that American filmgoers did not get to see). But like I say, if Fox does halt the release, I will not give them business of any fucking kind next year. If this goes through, as far as I'm concerned, Star Trek will start the summer movie going season NOT FUCKING WOLVERINE! And to the talkbacker near the top that hoped Watchmen would get pushed back, I hope that Hollywood remakes so many goddamn movies that you are left with nothing new to watch. Me, I like seeing things from different perspectives. Even though I wish they would not remake The Crow, I'll be intrigued to see what the Norrington does with it since I adored the first Blade and liked The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

totally agree with your comment. Although I was singing a different tune a few months ago, I have slowly come to realize the fact it looks good and there's enough interest behind it people will see it and get it, despite the comic book context that adds to the experience. My much younger cousin told me he was psyched to see it and he's never read the Watchmen. He's a freshmen in high school, so if that demo gets it, then I think it's going to do pretty well. BTW I bought him the graphic novel for X-mas this year, so he can really sink his teeth into the experience. My hopes remain high for this movie.
-
Not the fans watching the Watchmen bootleg DVD's..........

because of Avatar. Why? Because Fox owns Harper Collins, which is releasing the third volume in the James Ellroy Underworld USA trilogy. I'll be damned if I give that up just because we can't see a watered-down version of a graphic novel. If you want Watchmen so bad, just READ THE FRICKING BOOK. Listen to Bob Dylan's stuff from the 60s to get the full effect.

I've got the 60s movie with the commentary from West and Ward - it's still a hell of a lot of fun. I think Batman is big enough to survive having the 60s version available. If Warners was truly concerned about "protecting the image" of Batman, they'd take the Schumacher movies out of circulation.

to put this in perspective. You've killed a bunch of cops. Word around is that you've got a lot of heavy connections downtown. You make a lot of my friends nervous. A lot of people... would love to see a guy like me... put a guy like you out of business.

Well, considering the way the film looks in the trailers...
by starwarsredux
...maybe Fox is doing us a favor. Seriously.
-
that WB Legal got stop pays on their Christmas Bonus checks.
Really...this didn't just come out of left field...for it to get this far tells me that there has been months if not years of behind the scenes legal wrangling between the two...and somehow Legal at WB thought they had a winning hand...which this judge took away and dick slapped them with. Hey kids...if you are going to shoot an adaption of a hot property..make DAMNED sure you actually have the right to do so. -
Fox currently has the number one movie in the country, plus two possible Best Picture contenders through Fox Searchlight. Yes, Warner's had Dark Knight, but it also had Speed Racer, 10,000 BC and the &%*$@#!! Clone Wars.
-
I can't read all of these, but one stood out by standundermyumbrella. "Rid the world of another pointless video game movie." Why is this person even on a kick ass site like this when he obviously has not the faintest clue of the entertainment world; he probably still drinks milk from his mom's teet. Second, Fox will huff and puff, but this movie will be released in March, but at an extremely high cost to WB. Unfortunately it serves them right when they have such an inept legal department. Third, Fox is probably the worst film studio today, don't wait to boycott them, do it now. Death to NewsCorp and the Republican fascist of Rupert Murdoch.
-
Or is it snyder ? The real reason this is happening is that the movie sucks and they won't show it. Period. FAIL.
-
AICN’s headline: “We knew it was coming... Fox aims to halt WATCHMEN's release...” Filmdrunk’s take: “If I read another “Fox is trying to delay Watchmen!” headline I’m going to punch a baby. Just to clarify, Fox is NOT trying to delay the release. The judge has ruled Fox owns a piece of it. Therefore, it’s in Fox’s best interest that it be released on time since they will be making money on it. “ “Fox, which finally snapped a long box office losing streak with “Marley & Me,” gains most with a settlement, not a blocked release.”

...that this whole thing might be an Ozymandius-giant-squid-plan to build up hype for this movie? Could Fox and WB be in on this together? Hurm?
-
...We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful.
-
quite possibly nobody.
There's your headline, Quint. -
"1) Making the Iron Giant a tremendous success 2) Making Let the Right One In the sleeper hit of the year 3) Getting Brett Ratner off of X-men 3 4) Getting Bruce Willis to say Yippe Ki Yay Motherfuckers in the fourth Die Hard 5) Stopping the reign of Tom Rothman 6) Making the Star Wars prequels better 7) Getting McG fired from Terminator Salvation 8) Convincing Zack Snyder to put the squid back in Watchmen" You have an excellent point that the online film community did not succeed in getting its way on any of those issues. But the online community does a pretty good job of declaring the "conventional wisdom" on any number of film issues, and that has an impact down the line. On paper, Paul Anderson is a successful director. But online genre fans think he sucks, starting from Harry on down, and I don't see him graduating from his directing ghetto any time soon, in part due to the stigma attached to his reputation by "online haters". Ratner gets cut a little more slack, but for how long? And the reputation of The Iron Giant only continues to grow over time, in part due to the missionary efforts of members of the online film community. That film was a "failure" the way that Shawshank was.
-
...come up with a way to "drop a ginat squid" on the movie industry so that WB and Fox will put their differences aside and get this thing done.
-
clearly someone at WB HAD to know about the potential rights issue even before preproduction started so yes it's a shitty thing what Fox is doing but it's within their rights to do so. Someone from WB fucked up and allowed this to move forward before they got all clearances and had the legalities wrapped up.
-
"HAH! GOT YA, YA LOUSY CUNTS!!! HAHHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAAH"
And trust me, a maniacally laughing Alan Moore is the last thing i'd wish i run itno a dark alley. -
It seems to me that the "online community" has only been successful in pointless endeavours like getting "I'm the Juggernaut, bitch" in X3.
-
The accumulated filth of all their craptastic films will foam up about their waists and Rothman will look up and shout 'Save me!' And we, the lowly filmgoers who remeber sitting through the shit-fests that were Fantastic 4, X-3, Alien V. Predator, and the Watchman debacle, will look down - the same way he looked down at us and the source material he crapped so hard on, and whisper 'No.'
-
Fuck you FOX and your shitty movies. Thanks alot! Now i have one less channel to watch on TV, one less News Source to listen to and one less Studio to watch films from. Unless something changes with this decision, i'm boycotting FOX. Fuckers. Eat a Dick.
-
No squid = nipples on Batman. Fuck all you "ZOMG I NEEDZ TAH C WACHMEN! SUXOR OBRIAN'S DIK!!!111 LOL!!!!!1111" haters!
-
No need to boycott though...are there really more than 3 movies in that list that anyone wants to see? lol.
p.s. If anyone of you whiners would like to send me a script you've written, I would like to make it without paying you, then see if you "do the right thing" and let me release it without a lawsuit. Hello? Any takers? Hmmmm? No? Quit reacting with fanboy zealotry and look at the legal facts...WB screwed the pooch on this one. -

Here's how Warners can really frak with Fox if they keep this up
by pennsy
You know how you can ram their tentpoles right up Peter Chernin's ass? Open Terminator Salvation 3 weeks or so early to ruin Wolverine's business. Hold back Harry Potter until Christmas and schedule it opposite Avatar. Make it clear to Fox you'll keep doing that. Then see how long Rupert and Rothman are prepared to play chicken.
-
No one of course........................
-
who want to watch the Watchmen?
-
watchmen fans watching bootleg watchmen DVD's???
-
if somehow the movie didn't get released and ended up mired in such a legal morass that it NEVER got released and no one would ever know whether it was great or shit but would be stuck endlessly speculating based on the previews?
-

forget about this movie. It'll never see the light of day.

WE GOT CRANK 2 TO LOOK FORWARD TO!!

Boycotting Fox alone would be wrong. There's plenty of evidence (see EW) that Fox at least tried to discuss settlement with WB early in the process and WB refused. So this is not solely a Fox issue, WB is at least as responsible. Geekdom should pick one movie from each studio to boycott to show our power and force these 2 to work it out. I'd propose Wolverine for Fox. WB is tougher depending on what's coming out when there's Thundercats, Jonah Hex, and Ender's Game as possibilities. AICN should take the lead on calling this and both companies should be targetted equally.
-
if fans got together and threaten to boycott the Wolverine origins movie. Good way to fosr their hand.
-
You all know the movie will suck anyway. Hollywood ruins such things.
